Iâm gonna say something controversial, but maybe Bridgerton wouldnât have felt the need to rush Penelope and Colinâs season to screen if the show had a cable release schedule.
The show said they pushed Polin to season 3 because they felt audiences were getting impatient to see their love story resolved, which may be true, but they wouldnât be so antsy after only two seasons if there werenât two years between each of them. Yes, season 2 had to wait on COVID, and season 3 had to wait on the writerâs/actorâs strike, but theyâve said that season 4 will come out 2026 at best without any exterior obstacles, and theyâve just now convened the writerâs room (after season 3âs full release). I donât watch many Netflix shows, but seeing as this is how they operate with TV, I donât know how many people are going to continue sticking around for what will be an 8-season show (if theyâre allowed to finish) with two years between everything when theyâre already expressing discontent over the fact they have to wait so long, and often forget charactersâ names and arcs but are unwilling to rewatch the entire show every time just to remember what happened one season ago. Audiences are finally reaching the point where theyâre unsatisfied with 8 episodes every two years (often, in many showâs cases, with half an hour or less per episode), and with shows like Bridgerton losing production quality and poorly handling the source material (see: keeping Penelope and Colinâs core conflict over her being Lady Whistledown, but removing the context around it and providing a weaker argument, or having Francesca fall for Michael/a while being married to John, inadvertently playing into biphobic stereotypes and harming both charactersâ love for John and their grief over his eventual death/guilty feelings for falling in love once heâs gone).
While there are things I love that the show changed (making the Bridgerton men much more appealing love interests, adding Queen Charlotte and her miniseries, creating a relevant but not central storyline regarding race equality in alternate England, LGBTQ+ rep, and, more recently, giving Lady Danbury more backstory), the main storyline has started suffering, especially in season 3. Iâm not saying 22-episode shows with yearly releases donât also decline over time, but they also arenât expected to garner a massive following immediately upon release or face cancellation - or, if they are widely popular, to string fans along for far longer than necessary to retain subscribers for less, subpar content.
#watching the last half of bridgerton rn and i am having a good time butâŚ#there are things that donât sit well with me#mostly bc francesca and michael have one of my fav books#especially how they handle falling in love again in widowhood and guilt#i love that they made michael a woman especially bc their story fits lgbtq themes very well already#but having francesca eye up michaela when john is LITERALLY right there made my blood boil#and also polin didnât feel like the focus of pt2 of THEIR OWN SEASON?!#also i partially take it back - 22 episodes would allow SO much more development for all characters that we desperately need#bridgerton

Why Benophie season is the perfect way to finish the first half of the Bton stories?
Now that Benophie season is unofficially confirmed, I've come to the conclusion that this was the greatest way to end the first half of Bton. It needed to be s4.
In the ton, marriage is about status. And while all Bton marriages are love matches, they are also incredibly beneficial for their position in society. The ENTIRE family's position in society.
Anthony is a viscount, an influential one, but in the nobility hierarchy, he's second to last.
Daphne climbed up 3 steps when she married Simon and became a Duchess.
Francesca will climb one step when she marries John.
Kate didn't have a title or wealth, but a married Viscount is an improvement over a rake Viscount.
Colin is only a Mr., but I will be surprised if the Featherington baby race doesn't end with Pen having a boy who will become Baron. He's going to be the father of a Lord thanks to Penelope.
So you can see how these marriages are extremely beneficial to them and elevate the entire family. Daphne understood this when she said that her marriage would set the prospects for her sisters. Anthony also knew that his choice of viscountess would affect the family.
So, by the time Benedict meets Sophie, the family will have a viscounty + relations with a duchy, an earldom, and a barony. They just need a march to have the full set.
Enter Benedict who will fall in love with a servant AND an illegitimate daughter.
If he marries her, he risks undoing all the work his siblings have done to maintain the family in good standing.
The book doesn't address this, but I wish the show would. It would add another dimension to Benedict's reasons to not marry Sophie. He would be thinking of the family. What would happen to Eloise, Hyacinth, and Gregory? They will no longer be siblings to nobles, they will be related to an illegitimate child and servant. Who will want to marry them? Is it fair to affect their prospects when they haven't even had a chance at society? (Read The Secrets of Sir Richard Kenworthy) Perhaps it hurts the already-married siblings too.
I'm thinking about Ben and Violet's scene. Sophie refuses to be a mistress and Ben has already decided to marry her. But there's still this issue lingering. Is it right to drag the whole family to get what he wants? Wouldn't that be the most selfish thing anyone could do? In the book, Violet says this,
Imagine if she adds, "and your siblings will support you too."
EDIT: The thing about this scene is that Benedict was ready to leave if the family didn't support him and Sophie.
This is also a great way to bring back the Sharmas' background. Mary was cast out for marrying a clerk, leaving Edwina in an unfavorable position. If the Queen hadn't named her the diamond, it would have been very difficult for her to get a good match. Not to mention that Mary's parents considered hated Kate and insulted her parents for being common people.
You can see why Benedict is afraid of the family's reaction. The Sheffields said that after Mary left, they couldn't show their faces in London for years. He wouldn't want to do that to his family. Sophie wouldn't want that either.
This is why it is so great to have Benophie come in s4. Not that a duchy and a viscount wouldn't have been enough, but this way is much more dramatic and LEGENDARY.
Despite the risks, the family will support Benedict AND Sophie. They'll support her too cause they know her and they love her even before they knew about Ben's feelings.
It's a test, not only for Benedict but for the family.
MORE EDITS:
I also think that Queen Charlotte will hate the Bridgertons after s3. She has been trying to arrange their marriages for 3 seasons, and they have all ignored her and made their matches independently. So, maybe Benedict will be worried because his marriage to Sophie will only worsen the situation.

Each Bridgerton sibling is like a mirror of each other...
Daphne & Anthony: Authorative, Lots of Expectations, Certainly born leaders in some way, with a soft heart. Literally the Older Siblingsâ˘. Their love matches are certainly not without vexing each other and taking the rise out of one another. There's fire in there somewhere.
Benedict & Eloise: Creative, Intelligent/Artistic pursuit, Ache for Freedom, Open-Minded. They just have the feels and they're so gay, so help them. They feel so much in the most passionate way whether it be their pursuit of knowledge or artistic expression, and when that hurts them â they become lost/unsure. (Eloise trying to fit in, Benedict stopping his art etc.).
Colin & Francesca: Sensitive (but not in a meek way), Quiet sometimes, Observant, sometimes ???? (That's mostly Colin). The Kindest Siblingsâ˘. Literally simply cute in affectionate gestures. Probably Friends to Lovers could be their signature trope. Falls in love immediately (i.e. Marina & John) but with their true loves it's a slow burn.
Gregory & Hyacinth: Perceptive, mischievious, full of life, and still young as of this writing. They are the seers of the Family, they just know things unknowingly and are definitely right with the love matches lol. They also definitely believe in love matches like their older sibling's success of love in the marriage mart.

I Have Evolving Thoughts on Franâs Sexuality
(god hannah dodd is so pretty)
First of all letâs thank GOD francesca is the queer sister and notâŚthat other one.
Anyways upon my initial viewing of part 2 I definitely read Fran as bisexual and if you continue to read her as such I think thatâs fine but my mind has changed on the matter.
I believe that Fran is actually a lesbian suffering from comphet.
The reason this actually started to seem likely to me is because of her wedding scene with John. The whole season I thought they seemed so taken with one another and I enjoyed their quiet dynamic. They were more than comfortable sitting in silence with one another and seemed to grow closer in that way.
I like many others assumed this meant their love was romantic, but that kiss
Would a woman who is attracted to men make this face after kissing the man she loves? I donât think so. Some people seem to think itâs because sheâs shy but it doesnât seem like sheâs even thinking about her family here. It seems like she has retreated into her own thoughts. It seems like she was disappointed. And after spending the whole season feeling nothing for any of the men she meets why wouldnât she be. She met a man she loved and she kissed him and she didnât feel those sparks.
Now Fran is also autistic coded so this initially affected the way I viewed her relationships as well, but all of that changes when you take into account Michaela.
Francesca immediately starts to stutter and is flustered when she sees Michaela. We have never seen Fran act this way with a man, even her husband. It wasnât for no reason that Violet describes how she felt the first time she fell in love with Edmund and then almost immediately after Fran reacts the same way to Michaela. The butterflies, not being able to string a sentence together. This was foreshadowing.
Some people were upset because they said it erased everything Fran said about having a quiet love and that is somewhat true, but I disagree with people saying that it erases slowly built love when Polinâs whole story is about love not striking you like a bolt of lightning.
None of this is to say she canât love John, I believe she does I just feel it is platonic, and the loss of John would hit hard even if he was her best friend. John is one of the great loves of her life but who is to say that love is romantic? Friendships are the foundation of our lives and they are equally as important as any romantic relationship. Fran met someone who understands her and is like her, that doesnât mean she has to have romantic attraction for him.
Some of this is affected by personal bias as I am a late-blooming lesbian, but holy shit the way I relate to Fran wanting to get married just because it would mean she wouldnât have to pursue any other relationships with men and the way she was willing to accept whoever the Queen deemed fit because she didnât have any criteria except âis kind to meâ. Fran does not seem to be searching for love as she has not felt it before. The closest she comes is with John because the two of them are so similar and I believe she thought that because she liked him so much that she must be in love with him which is just soâŚlesbian coded I donât know how to explain it.
This isnât to say bisexuality isnât real or is âjust a phaseâ. Ew. Gross. No. This is just the way I am interpreting the character with the information we have now. If it comes out definitely that she is bisexual then I will accept that, sapphic rep is so needed.
All in all they look so good and I canât wait to see these queers kiss and have a romance.
Also I think that Michaela still could have fallen first. Fran just realized she was a dyke at that exact moment and her brain stopped working which is valid. But did you see the way Michaela looked at her. I KNOW A LESBIAN FALLING IN LOVE WHEN I SEE ONE.

How they did it bad?
Bridgerton s3 spoilers for the awful WLW twist. Francesca's plotline this season revolves around her falling in love with John. They are both "strange", AKA autistic coded, and their courtship revolves around kind, gentle shows of care instead of dramatic outbursts. Violet, Francesca's mother, believes this means they aren't really in love, because in her opinion, sex and lust are the only clear indicators of true love. Before Francesca's wedding Violet admits she was wrong, that love can look differently for everyone, and just because Francesca wasn't so smitten that she couldn't remember how to speak when John was nearby, it doesn't mean she doesn't love him. Yayyyy a different approach to love in Bridgerton, where sexual attraction isn't treated like the only indicator you should be with someone, what joy!!! Is what a STUPID NAIIVE BABY would say because when Francesca kisses John at the wedding she clearly dislikes the experience, and when John introduces her to his cousin, Michaela (Michael in the books), Francesca is so smitten she forgets how to speak. Which clearly shows Violet was right and Francesca's love DOES work like everyone else's, she just doesn't love John. So they used a "SHE WAS A LESBIAN ALL ALONG" plot twist to discredit love based on honest understanding and care as opposed to animalistic attraction, and autistic people interacting in ways others might not understand, all in one fell swoop. In the books Francesca has a fulfilling marriage with John, he dies, and she has a fulfilling marriage with Michael. In the show she is gonna have a disappointing marriage with John because she is CLEARLY meant to be with her One True Love Michaela. #Justice4John
#eernask#eernanon#eernask talk bridgerton#in the beginning they set up a comphet arc for francesca bc she said she only wanted to marry as well as possible and her mother couldn't#understand why she refused to look for love#but then they pivoted into a love story woth francesca finding a man who understands her better than anyone else#only to pivot right back and make it comphet at the last minute. bc god forbid we show a woman having 2 true loves at different times

benedict bridgerton x fem!reader
summary:Â your father has promised you to a much older man, but benedict refuses to let you go without a fight. He is determined to win your heart, even if it means making a fool of himself by boldly throwing rocks at your window warnings: smut ahead, 18+ mdni, slight degradation (like barely any it could be so much worse), praise, dirty talk, fingering, p in v sex, fluffy smut note: this is my first post!!! iâm so very excited to share this with all of you. season 3 benedict had me weak in the knees, and when this idea came to me after he told john to go throw rocks at francesca's window, I knew I had to write it. lots of love!! let me know what you think!!! word count: 7.4k (not sure how that happened lmao)
As the second eldest Bridgerton child and next in line for the title of Viscount, any eligible woman with intelligence sought to secure Benedict Bridgerton as their match. Unfortunately for them, Mr. Bridgerton was not looking for a wife this season, nor the last, nor any season before that. It appeared that Benedict had no desire to marry, and it was doubtful that would ever change.
Yet, that did not stop the mamas of the ton from setting their daughters upon him as if they were nothing more than dogs and he was their meal. The thought was unsettling, making you nauseous, but you tried to ignore their classless attempts to negotiate a marriage with the Bridgerton boy. At this point, however, what the fathers were offering Benedict to take their daughters' hands in marriage was no longer negotiation. It was simply bribery. Lord Ellington had offered Benedict land in the country. Lord Wentworth did the same, but he included the staff to his land as if they were slaves he could barter and sell. Lord Haverford extended a tempting proposal that Benedict almost entertained, offering a one-of-a-kind masterpiece painted by Thomas Gainsborough. While Benedict considered it for a mere moment, he ultimately declined, asserting that no work of art, however exquisite, is worth the cost of compromising one's spirit for a union with which one cannot bear.
Everyone desired to be Benedict Bridgertonâs wife. Everyone thought they knew him and could force their way into his heart and capture his attention. But you knew him intimately, which is how you knew this would never occur. You knew precisely how he took his tea. You knew his favorite artist, and while he admired Thomas Gainsboroughâs work, it was not he who held the place of honor. You knew his favorite sibling, even when he insisted he had none. You knew what ignited his passions and recognized the look on his face when he felt his creativity had been compromised. You knew everything about Benedict Bridgerton, which is why you knew he would never marry without love. And Benedict has never been one to fall in love with anything other than art.
While you admired the determination and resilience of the young debutantes vying for his attention, you also resented it, for their pursuit often kept him occupied during balls, leaving you at the mercy of your mother's desire to showcase you to any willing suitor. The social scene was unbearable to you. Men gawked and whispered about young women as though they were mere commodities. It was infuriating, but thankfully, you found solace in knowing you were not alone in this sentiment. Your closest friend Eloise shared and understood your frustrations more deeply than anyone else, and when Benedict was occupied, she did a decent enough job of sheltering you from your mama.
âHas your mother lost her head?â Eloise nearly shouted, earning glares from nearby onlookers as you stared at the floor, trying to keep the blush creeping up your cheeks at bay.
âI suppose itâs not too bad,â you mumbled, not believing your statement whatsoever.
âNot too bad?â Eloise asked as if speaking to a stranger and not you, her best friend whom sheâd known since childhood. âYou cannot marry him.â
âHe hasnât proposed yet. I believe it is just an option.â
âAn option you're entertaining, tell me not.â
âLord Kensington is not a cruel man, Eloise. He is very wealthy and will allow me to spend my days reading alone while he tends to his business. It seems like an appropriate match.â
Eloise scoffed and crossed her gloved hands over her chest. âLord Kensington is nearly three and seventy. You are a child in comparison. This is the furthest thing from an appropriate match.â
âThis is my third year on the marriage-mart. Iâd rather be a widow than a spinster whoâs a burden to her family.â
âIs that what you think of me? A burden?â
Your eyes widened. âEloise, no Iââ
âIâm going to seek some refreshments. Perhaps when I return youâll no longer be behaving in such an unbearable manner.â
With that, Eloise stormed away, her dress flashing through the crowd like a river of blue. You took a deep breath, attempting to ground yourself and regain composure. It was not as if you were excited to potentially marry Lord Kensington. He was simply an option. One that disgusted you and made your skin crawl, but an option nonetheless. You were only confiding in a friend, but leave it to Eloise to blow things out of proportion and not give you the opportunity to explain.
âIs that a frown I see?â The blue-eyed devil whose company you were praying for teased as he stood to your right.
âEloise is upset with me.â
Benedict smirked as if what you said was an insufficient reason to be emotional. âEloise will be Eloise. What have you done that has destroyed her life, ruined her future, and perhaps changed the course of history itself?â
You couldnât help the laugh that bubbled in your throat. âYour sister is not that dramatic.â
âWe are speaking of the same sister, correct?â
You rolled your eyes, and he moved to stand in front of you, capturing your complete attention. He looked exceptionally handsome tonight, his deep navy tailcoat contrasting elegantly with the crisp white linen shirt beneath. The maroon cravat, tied with exquisite precision, drew the gaze of any unfortunate soul who dared to look his way. His hair, styled almost artistically, gave him the appearance of a portrait subject moments before the painter's brush touched the canvas.
Other than the mass of invalids gathered at these balls, what you despised most was how impossibly handsome the man standing before you appeared when you finally got the chance to speak with him. He was, of course, handsome every day, but there was something incomparable about his appearance when meticulously dressed for the social event of the season.
âYou truly are upset,â Benedict stated as he stared into your eyes, realizing the extent of your worry. âTell me, what is it that you and my sister were arguing about?â
âI am to be engaged.â
Benedictâs eyes widened, and his large, goofy smile was replaced by a stern, thin-lined frown. You paused, staring at his hardening features. Why was he upset? He had not even heard the worst part yet.
Clearing his throat, Benedict tried to force a smile. âCongratulations. Who is the lucky husband-to-be?â
âLord Kensington.â
His eyebrows furrowed in confusion. âYou must be mistaken. Are you speaking of Lord Kilmartin? I believe he fancies my sister Francesca, but I could be mistaken.â
You shook your head. âNo, I am not mistaken. I am to be engaged to Lord Kensington. He and my father are speaking tonight, but he has already declared his intentions.â
Benedict's face contorted with many emotions, but only one seemed clear to you as you studied his burning blue eyes. Anger. Was he angry with you for finding a husband? While yes, Lord Kensington was many years older than you, this sort of thing happened all the time. Just last week, Miss Radcliffe, who is your age, married Lord Pennington, who is nearly eight and sixty.
"Lord Kensington is older than the combined ages of your parents," he argued. "By the time you marry him and bear him an heir, he will likely be dead. In fact, he may not even live to see the child born."
âBenedictââ
âThis is unacceptable,â he exclaimed, looking around the room like a madman. âWhere is your father? I will speak with him.â
âAnd do what, Benedict? This is my third year on the marriage-mart. The longer I wait to marry, the more undesirable I become.â
âYou can wait one more season. There must be someone elseââ
"There is no one else, Benedict!" you exclaimed, your voice echoing through the room and drawing the attention of onlookers. In this moment, it felt as though you were the only souls in existence. Nothing else matteredânot the curious gazes nor the threat to your reputation. With unwavering resolve, you met his gaze, channeling every ounce of strength within you. âAnd frankly, I am tired of waiting. This is a suitable match, and the union will be short enough.â
âI will find you someone else to marry,â he whispered under his breath to avoid the attention of the rest of the ton.
Firmly, you shook your head, not wanting to argue with him. âMr. Bridgerton, I apologize for my outburst. I must be feeling unwell. I believe I will turn in early.â
You began to walk away to find your mother and father and convince them to take you home when he grabbed your gloved arm, forcing you to face him once more.
âY/N, pleaseââ
âThere is nothing left to be done, Mr. Bridgerton. Now please remove your hands from me.â
Reluctantly, Benedict released you. âThen I suppose the next time I see you will be at your engagement celebration.â
Holding back tears, you nodded. âAs always, Iâm looking forward to it, Mr. Bridgerton.â
â・°âŠâ・°âŠâ・°âŠâ・°âŠâ・°âŠâ・°âŠâ・°âŠâ・°âŠâ・°âŠâ・°âŠâ・°âŠâ・°âŠâ・°âŠâ・
That evening, upon returning to your residence in Mayfair, your lady's maid assisted you in preparing for bed before retiring for the night herself. Your father was absent, likely in discussion with Lord Kensington, finalizing the arrangements for your impending engagement, while your mother, deep in slumber, dreamt of the wedding preparations ahead. Meanwhile, you lay wide awake beneath the canopy of your chamber, clad in your nightgown, yearning to be anyone but yourself.
In that moment, the faintest tap at your window caught your attention. Initially, you dismissed it as a figment of your imaginationâsurely, no one would seek to contact you at such a late hour, especially considering your residence on the second floor. Yet, the sound persisted, growing more insistent with each repetition.
With cautious steps, you rose and approached the window, uncertainty weighing heavily upon you. Slowly, you drew aside the voluminous pink curtains that had obscured both moonlight and the view of the street below. There, you observed a small pebble making contact with the glass, producing a gentle, persistent knocking sound.
Who on earth was throwing rocks at your window? Especially at this hour?
Delicately, you released the latch securing the window and eased it open, peering down to the street below to discern the identity of the visitor. From your vantage point, you observed a figure below, stooping to retrieve more stones, his movements deliberate yet furtive. As he straightened, your gaze locked onto his face, and in that instant, you recognized the familiar features of the culprit.
âBenedict?â you whispered down at the man.
Upon hearing your voice, Benedict dropped the rocks in his hand, and a relieved sigh escaped him.
âY/N, I must speak with you. I attempted to enter the house, but the door is locked.â
âBecause it is exceptionally late. Benedict, you cannot be here. This is rather improper.â
âI will not leave until I get a word with you, and I will only get louder as you make me wait.â
You could not let him in. You were dressed in your nightgown. Your hair was not done nor your makeup. Not to mention, if anyone were to see him come inside, your family would be cast out of society. While you all were wealthy, respected, and had titles, you were no Bridgerton. You could not get away with such a feat.
âWhy are you here, Ben?â you asked, your voice full of defeat.
You observed a softening of his features from hearing the nickname you had given him all those years ago. Despite wearing the same attire from the ball, his hair was now disheveled, evidence of repeated runs of his hand through itâa nervous habit of his. He gestured with open arms, as if inviting you to leap into themâan implausible notion, surely.
âI am here to be bold and declare myself,â he declared, ever so confidently.
âYou are not being bold,â you whispered, looking up and down the street for any passersby. âYou are making a fool out of yourself and my family.â
âI am calling upon youââ he began to shout before you quickly shushed him and caved to his demands.
âFine! Fine! I will be down in a moment,â you hissed, shutting the window in your wake.
You hastily raked your fingers through your tousled hair, attempting in vain to tame the unruly strands that betrayed a night of restless tossing and turning in bed. Eventually conceding defeat, you reached for your baby blue robe hanging on the door and descended the stairs with purposeful strides. Benedict Bridgerton's unexpected appearance bewildered youâhad he lost his senses? His unannounced visit threatened to disrupt everything.
You grasped the gilded handle of your front door, turning it with utmost care to avoid arousing anyone's attention to Benedict's presence. The door swung open slowly, revealing Benedict poised outside, patiently awaiting your invitation inside that would not be coming.
âWhat are you doing here, Benedict? If anyone were to see youââ
âI have found you another option,â he stated breathlessly.
You frowned, confused by his words. âWhat are you talking about?â
âYou said you must marry Lord Kensington because there is no other option. I have found you another one.â
You could not help but roll your eyes at his audacious statement. âAnd who might that be? My father has looked for other men for me to marry, and his search has been fruitless. I doubt yours would be much different.â
âYou will marry me.â
A ringing sensation echoed in your ears, accompanied by a wave of nausea that threatened to overwhelm you. Surely, he could not mean what he was saying. Perhaps confusion had clouded his judgment. As you gathered your thoughts, uncertainty gripped you tightly.
âAre you drunk?â you asked hoarsely. Your eyes widened momentarily, realizing the potential rudeness of your question. âI apologize. I meantâNo, I meant what I said. Are you drunk?â
The same goofy smile you had come to love appeared on Benedictâs face. âBelieve it or not, I have never been more sober.â
You shook your head, alarmed by this whole situation. âWell then, are you mad? Thatâs the only excuse for you to come here at this hour asking for my hand in marriage.â
âYou are one of my dearest friends. I will not let you marry a man on his deathbed,â he stated firmly, reaching for your hands and holding them in his.
Still unconvinced, you scoffed, âWhat about Eloise? Surely your sister would not be fond of you marrying one of her closest friends.â
âIt was actually her idea,â he stated, creating only more confusion for you. âWe were on the swings discussing how unfond we were of your fiancĂŠ when she said that she wished I were marrying you instead.â
Realizing the gravity of this conversation, you ripped your hands from his. âYou do not even wish to be married, and I will not let you marry me out of pity.â
As you reached for the door to slam it in his face, he asserted himself, pushing it open and pressing you gently until your back met the doorframe. Your chest rose and fell with heightened emotion as you gazed up at him, but before you could react, he captured your lips with his own. A rush of warmth enveloped your entire being, causing you to pause, unsure of your next move. The sensation was entirely new to you; while you had read about such moments in the pages of Jane Austenâs novels, experiencing them firsthand was another matter altogether. Benedict's kiss felt unlike anything you had ever knownâa gesture filled with a fervor that seemed to imply he needed your very breath to survive.
As you drew back from him, a swell of emotion threatened to bring tears to your eyes. Leaving his embrace was painful; you longed to linger, yet the reality of the situation weighed heavily upon you. With the door ajar, vulnerable to prying eyes, the impropriety of the moment loomed large in your mind. It felt unjust and heart-wrenchingâto share such a tender kiss with the man you loved, only to face an impending marriage to another that you could not stand.
âThis is cruel, Benedict,â you whispered, your voice trembling and your lips quivering. âI did not take you to be a cruel man.â
âI am not marrying you out of pity,â he declared firmly, his gaze intense as he wiped away the tears threatening to spill from your eyes. âOr obligation,â he added, his touch gentle yet resolute. âOr convenience.â
âThen why would you do this?â you asked, fighting to maintain composure before him. âWhy come here, demanding to marry me when you know I have loved you for years?â
He hesitated briefly, taken aback by your words, before gently cupping your cheeks with both hands. âBecause I will not let the woman I love marry a man who is not me.â
You gasped involuntarily as his words replayed in your mind. Benedict's face broke into a triumphant smile, akin to winning a hard-fought duel. The revelation felt almost surreal. Benedict Bridgerton loves you? It seemed impossible to comprehend. You'd known him since childhood, and despite the few years' difference in age, you would have expected him to declare his feelings long before the eve of your arranged engagement.
âDo not lie to me, Benedict, or so help me Godââ
âI have never lied to you, my love,â he interjected, pressing a tender kiss to your right temple as he continued to cradle your face. âAnd I never will.â
Overwhelmed by your emotions, you pulled away, your voice rising in frustration. âWhy did you not say something sooner?â you demanded, no longer caring about your mother asleep upstairs or the servants resting elsewhere in the house. âWhy tell me now?â
âBecause, Iââ he began, his frustration evident as he ran a hand through his hair. âI thought I had more time. I convinced myself that if you chose to marry another man, someone of substance, I would step aside. But thisâŚI cannot let you marry Lord Kensington. It would be a fate worse than I could endure.â
âYou wanted more time?â you asked, exasperated. âMore time for what? To visit brothels? To sleep with whores? To continue being a rake? You wanted more time to be selfish before you had to force yourself to settle down?â
He scoffed. âDo you even know the meaning of the words you say? Or are they just judgmental statements youâve heard your father make about me to your mother?â
âI love you, Benedict. I always have, but I will not be second to the life you want for yourself. I will not become a regret of yours when you are my entire world. It would break me, so I would rather become the wife of a man who disgusts me than marry you and have you disdain me.â
Forcefully, he seized your bicep, pulling you close until your chest pressed firmly against his with every breath. Benedict had always been so kind, so gentle, so transparent, but as you gazed into his eyes now, you saw a different man entirelyâa beast poised to devour its prey.
âDo not presume to know my desires or what I will regret,â he declared, his voice a low growl as he towered over you. âYou may love me, but you do not know me better than I know myself. What I know is that I want you, in every sense of the word. I want you to be my wife, my partner, the woman with whom I share my life. I want to wake up each morning with you in my arms. I want to possess you, and I want the world to know that you belong to me.â
Your eyes blinked heavily as you stared up at him, tears beginning to fill them. "I want nothing more, Benedict, but my father has most certainly already promised me to Lord Kensington. Youâre too late."
Benedict shook his head, refusing to accept your words. "You will come with me now to Bridgerton Houseâ"
"I cannot leave the house at this hour in this attire with you!" you gasped, horrified by the idea. "Iâll become the biggest scandal in Lady Whistledownâs next issue."
"You will not interrupt me," he stated firmly. "Do you not trust me?"
You sighed, "I trust you. Iâm just questioning your judgment. Have you truly thought this through?"
"Listen to me, Y/N. You are coming with me to Bridgerton House now. We will not keep this quiet. The more people who see us, the better. Tomorrow morning, I will go to your father and declare my intent to marry you. Perhaps we may even obtain a special license to wed quickly, avoiding further scrutiny."
"That will not change the fact that my father has promised me to Lord Kensington."
"What changes is that if Lord Kensington discovers you stayed the night unchaperoned with me, he will not want to marry you."
Pausing, you realized the sense in his logic, though you were still confused. "But why not?"
âBecause he will think I have bedded you, and he will not marry a woman whose purity he believes is not intact,â Benedict explained.
âOh... So, youâre not planning to bed me? We're tricking him?â you asked, sounding more disappointed than you intended.
A broad smile spread across Benedict's face, lighting up the foyer where you stood. âDo you want me to bed you, my love?â
Heat rushed to your cheeks, and you tried to look down, but he gently lifted your chin, compelling you to meet his gaze.
âI just assumed that you would eventually. It is my marital duty, after all,â you mumbled.
Benedict shook his head. âIn our marriage, the only duty will be to love each other with every ounce of our being until our dying breath. I will not make love to you unless you ask me to.â
âBut when my mother explained the marital duty, she saidââ
âYour mother is wrong,â he interrupted firmly, his grip on your chin steady. âYou will be my wife, and as your husband, I promise that I will never force you into intimacy. You will come to me willingly, as I will to you, or not at all. I will not coerce you.â
With a gentle embrace, you wrapped your arms around his neck and rose onto your tiptoes to meet his gaze. âIâm not wearing shoes, my handsome fiancĂŠ. How will you manage to get me to your bed?â
He tapped his chin playfully, a mischievous smile lighting up his face. âIâve got it!â he exclaimed teasingly, eliciting a laugh from you. Without warning, he swept you into his arms bridal-style, prompting a squeal of delight as he started towards his home.
âBenedict, we must close the door,â you laughed.
He shrugged nonchalantly, his stride toward his house unwavering. âYour father can handle it when he returns from his meeting with your now ex-fiancĂŠ.â
âHe was never my fiancĂŠ. He was almost my fiancĂŠ.â
âAnd who do we have to thank for that?â
âHow would you like me to thank you, Ben?â
"I have many ideas in mind, my love, but I'm curious to see what you're thinking," he smirked devilishly.
Now it was your turn to foolishly tap your finger against your chin as he had done before. "I've got it!" you exclaimed, teasing him, which prompted him to tickle your underarm with the hand that rested on your back. Your laughter filled the air, and Benedict couldn't help but note that he had never heard a more liberating sound.
"You're not getting your reward anymore!" You gasped, squirming playfully in his arms.
âOh no!â He pouted, placing his head in the crook of your neck, and you couldnât help but feel the movement of his soft smirking lips, âHow may I get it back? Tell me, my love. I promise to be on my best behavior.â
âI believe I rather prefer you on your worst behavior, Mr. Bridgerton.â You teased.
Benedictâs head snapped up to meet your gaze, his pupils dilated with lust and desire, âIs that so?â
âYou are ever so enticing when you wear that dopey mischievous smirk that you are sporting this instant.â
âAnd you are ever so desirable when you look at me like you wish for me to fuck you, my dear.â
A surprised gasp escaped you, but before you could finish it, Benedict captured your mouth in another kiss. The kiss started out soft and lazy as his steps began to falter, it is then when he maneuvered you so your front is facing him and he is carrying you by your thighs. Unintentionally, you began to grind your body against his length with each step he took as you sat beautifully atop of his clothed member. His grip tightened over your nightgown, and your hands pulled at his hair as he continued to devour you.
âBen.â You moaned, pulling him closer if there were even such a possibility.
âWhat is it, beautiful?â
âI need more. I need you.â
Benedict smirked, his lips never leaving your neck, âI see. I never dreamed of you being this desperate for me especially in such a public place. If I were not as desperate as you, I would see it as pathetic.â
âBe nice.â You pouted, throwing your head back as he ravished you.
âOf course, my dearest. I know you want nothing more than to behave as an absolute angel, and I must act in a manner that is befitting to accompany you. God forbid, I scare my good girl off before I have the opportunity to ruin her.â
âYes!â You moaned, almost bouncing in his arms having no earthly idea why the feeling of him against you was as ethereal as it is. âRuin me, Ben. Iâm all yours.â
If it were up to Benedict, heâd lie you against the dirty ground beneath him and fuck you until you were both unmoving and drenched in sweat. And while he supposed he could make that decision for the two of you and lie you down right now, he did not want your first time to be where anyone could see. When he took you intimately for the first time, he wanted to cherish you, and he wanted to be the only one who knew the look that appeared on your face when you discovered just how beautiful making love could be. When you realized that the action should never be a duty, but a gift.
âMy love, if you do not behave, I will not be able to compose myself.â He stated, as he grinded his teeth together, attempting to hide just how far gone he was.
Before you even had the opportunity to whine or protest, Benedict threw you over his shoulder like a rag doll. You were instantly met with disappointment at the loss of contact, and you were about to argue with him when his hand playfully smacked your bottom.
âBenedict!â You shouted as his walking began to speed up, and you could sense from your surroundings that you were almost to Bridgerton House.
âI apologize, dearest, but I cannot wait a second longer to claim you, and this is the fastest way to get us to our destination.â
âBy treating me as a child?â You argued. He slapped your bottom again, and once again, you shouted after him, âBenedict Bridgerton.â
âIf you are going to behave like an ill-disciplined child, I will treat you as such. Now, keep your voice down. This isnât a secret, but we do not need the entire ton to know I have stolen you away.â
Your ribs bounced against his shoulder as he took you up the steps into Bridgerton House, and you couldnât help but smirk as you whispered, âYou only want me to be quiet, so I do not wake your mother. You could not care less about the rest of the ton.â
Not answering you like the stubborn mule he was, he slapped your ass once more, and not willing to admit that you enjoyed the sting of his affection, you slapped his back in return.
You felt his stifled laugh before you heard it as he swiftly maneuvered you into one of the few rooms of Bridgerton House that you have never seen: his bedroom. You werenât given the chance to look at your surroundings and see the room where the man you would be marrying laid his head each night. As soon as you saw the door swing closed behind him, your vision shifted to his ceiling. With a swift motion, he threw you onto his mattress, your back bouncing against the soft surface.
Before you could tease him for his impatience, he was already on top of you, his lips on your neck with a hunger akin to Dracula's. How had you resisted his charms for so long? Why had you denied yourself the fulfillment of tasting his lips? What had you done to deserve the intense pleasure he now bestowed upon you? Amidst all these unanswered questions, one thing became clear: there was no going back to a life where Benedict didn't kiss you so sweetly and speak to you with such desire.
He nibbled at the smallest bit of skin below your ear, eliciting a moan from you that he now has deemed the sound of the Lord calling him home. Surely, there was nothing more heavenly than the sound your body made when it called for him.
âBen, pleaseââ You begged.
He moved from your neck to your swollen lips, pecking them ever so gently, âYou are alright, my love.â He said in between kisses, âDo you wish for me to continue?âÂ
Nodding your head rapidly, Benedict couldnât help but smile down at the sight, âAre you certain, dearest? There will be no turning back.â
You placed one hand on his shoulder and the other behind his head as you pulled him down to meet you, âDonât ever stop.â
With your consent, Benedict removed your baby blue robe and began to bring the bottom of the skirt of your simple white nightgown up to rest at your hips, leaving your bottom half exposed. You moved to close your legs, feeling slightly insecure from the display, but Benedict stopped you placing his hands on your thighs.
âDo not hide from me, my love.â He stated, tenderly as he gently squeezed your thigh.
Your eyes widened and with them your legs, accepting his strong manly presence.Â
âHave you touched yourself here?â He asked, ghosting his hand between your legs, almost making contact, but immediately pulling back before you could feel him.
You shook your head no, âWhy would I?â
Mumbling against your hip bone, he replied,âBecause it brings you pleasure.âÂ
âJust as you are doing now?â You gasped as his fingers finally made contact.
He chuckled almost sinisterly as he planted delicate kisses across your hips and lower stomach while rocking his fingers back and forth across the button between your legs, âExactly as Iâm doing now.â He murmured, âIn fact, when you try it, I want you to think of this moment. Do you understand?â
You nodded your head desperately, and he lowered himself further into the valley that was your thighs, âAre you certain you understand?â He asked, dastardly kissing your cunt for the first time while his fingers continued their calculated movements.Â
Throwing your head back in desperation, you shouted, âYes! Yes! I will think of you Benedict!â
âAnd only me?â He asked with the fakest pout, jutting his lip out like a fool. You were too busy enjoying his fingers and tongue to entertain his teasing.
âOf course you! Only you! God, Benedict. Do not stop!â
âDoes it feel good, my darling?â He asked rhetorically, inserting one finger, to carefully begin stretching you out for his cock
A peculiar warmth enveloped your abdomen, radiating to that intimate place between your legs. This sensation first stirred upon seeing him for the first time tonight and has only grown the longer you lie here in his bed. Your thighs felt sticky and moist, your breasts tingled and rose with each heavy breath, and your mind became blissfully empty. It was an unusual feeling, yet undeniably welcome.
The stretch of the single digit inside you stung at first, but that pain quickly morphed into pleasure as he moved it in and out, sliding it against your walls, eliciting a feeling you had never felt before.
Benedict groaned merely at the sight of you beginning to come undone around his finger. He inserted a second and you reached for his hand, gasping, not necessarily in protest just in desperate need for a pause.
With one hand still inside you, he planted the other beside your head and slowly climbed up your body, kissing every inch until he reached your jaw. He gently sucked on the edge of your neck while you reached for his hair, causing him to smile against your skin. A slight tug unintentionally escaped you from the overwhelming sensation of him between your legs, eliciting a growl from him into your throat, pushing you further over the edge.
He suddenly pulled away from you and tugged at the cravat around his neck, tossing it to the floor. You moaned at the loss of his fingers, but it was then when you realized he was still fully clothed and you were almost completely naked. He continued pulling at his clothing, throwing his shirt and tailcoat to the floor before reaching for his belt. Realizing where this was heading, you pulled the remainder of your nightgown over your head, leaving your entire body on display for him before you placed it gently in your lap unsure of what to do next.
Sensing your uncertainty, he took your nightgown from you and tossed it to the floor, taking charge. He climbed on top of your body while he pushed his pants down his legs and planted himself on your chest. His lips enveloped your right nipple while his large hand twisted and grabbed at your left breast. Benedict had seen the tops of them over the years in the countless corsets you had worn, but seeing them bare as they are now, he felt like the luckiest man in London.
As he kissed your chest, it only created a desperate need to be inside you. He was dying to watch your breasts bounce as he pumped in and out of you, fucking you like he had always dreamed of. Your body was a dream in its entirety. How Benedict got so lucky to claim it was beyond him, but he knew better than to question Godâs gifts.
âYou are breathtaking, my love.â He moaned, rutting against you as he switched directions and kissed up your neck, âYou are a goddess, and I am only a lucky mortal who gets to bear witness to your beauty.â
âBenedictââ You begged, cutting yourself off as you reached for him, âI miss your fingers. Put them back inside me.â
You were addicting and those words only ensured your future husband that he would never let you leave him. He would never be able to survive another day without seeing the glow that your face currently held. He buried his head into the side of your neck and reached for his cock knowing you were ready from the wetness that soaked in between your legs.
âI am going to give you something better than my fingers.â He stated, hungrily. Your brain is too foggy to comprehend what he means by this statement. What could be better than his fingers? âI am going to give you my cock, and it is going to hurt for a moment at first, but I promise you it will feel better after a while.â
âIt will hurt?â You asked, sounding frightened.Â
âIt is nothing you can not handle, my dear.â He smiled, kissing your temple not wanting your nervousness to interfere with your pleasure, âI love you, and I guarantee this will bring you pleasure. It just takes a moment to get used to the size, but you are wet enough that it should not hurt exceptionally bad.â
You grabbed at his biceps anxiously, stopping him for a moment, âMy mother said that the marital dutyââ You interrupted yourself as his eyebrows narrowed at you, and you knew the reason for his confusion was that with him, there would be no marital duty. You had a feeling that your marriage would be entirely different from your parents because unlike your parents you and Benedict were a match made of love, âShe said that making love was painful and unpleasant for the first time. One of the worst pains imaginable.â A tear pricked at the corner of your eyes, âI am frightened.â
âOh, my love,â He cooed, tucking a piece of your hair behind your ear, âYou may not need to be frightened with me. Yes, sex can hurt if you are not properly prepared, but I have ensured that you are ready for this experience. The more you think about it, the worse you will build it up in your head. Just relax, dearest. The more you relax the better it will be.â
You nodded your head, but you did not remove your hands from Benedictâs large biceps, you closed your eyes almost as if you were bracing yourself for him. Wanting to bring you as much ease as possible, Benedict leaned down to kiss your temple before moving to your lips. Your hands moved from his arms to his face, and while you were occupied with the feeling of your lips on his, he grabbed his cock in his hand, stroking it twice before pushing only the head inside,allowing you time to adjust.
A quick gasp escaped you and in an instant your hands were back on his biceps. It took every ounce of strength that possessed Benedict to not push into you further, but he wanted this to be a good experience for you, and he refused to put you in more pain than he had to.
âYou just tell me when you are ready for me to move, and I will, dearest. This is all up to you.â
âOk,â You murmured breathlessly, nodding your head. The sting inside you had dulled to an aching need for him to move, âYou may move.â
At that, Benedict pushed further in, slowly seating himself completely in your heat. The pain worsened slightly, but with the way he whispered sweet nothings to you and kissed you so softly, you were too overcome with emotions to comprehend the pain. He sat inside you for a moment, not wanting to rush this time with you and not wanting it to be over so soon. You were so tight and squeezing him like a vice that he needed a minute or else it would all be over before it began.Â
Once you both had adjusted to the feeling of eachotherâs warmth, Benedict began moving. He slowly started pulling his length out until he pushed back in before he could slip out of you, continuing pumping in and out as you got used to the feeling. It was almost enough, but you knew you needed more.Â
âMore, Ben,â You moaned, breathily, âFaster.â
A lazy smirk fell on Benedict's lips as he placed his forehead against yours, âLook at my needy girl. Sheâs begging for it like some common street whore. It's ok, my love. I will take care of you.â
Your eyes widened at his statement, and you wished you could say that his words had no effect on your body, but with the way your head unintentionally fell back and your lips gasped for more of him, you knew it would be nothing but a lie.
Benedict ravaged your body like you were his for the taking, which you were, and it made you realize that you could not have lived another second without having Benedict this intimately. You were not meant to be any manâs wife but his. You were not meant to bear any child that lacked the last name Bridgerton. As your childhood best friend gave you everything you had always wanted, you knew that he was your destiny in every life, and you couldnât fathom how you almost let him go.
As Benedict kissed your lips, your neck, your cheeks, and every inch of your face while he pounded in you, he placed one hand on the bottom of left thigh and lifted your leg over his shoulder, resting it there as he picked up his pace. The feeling instantly left butterflies in your stomach, and a loud moan escaped you as you relished the feeling of this new angle.
âOh, Benedict! You must not stop. I have a feeling I cannot nameââ You shouted and he placed his large hand over your mouth to keep you quiet.
With sweat dripping off both of your bodies, Benedict leaned down placing his mouth by your ear without slowing his pace in the slightest.
âThat is called an orgasm, my love, and I want it to rip through you like a flood. Just tell me when you are there, and I will finish with you.â
You nodded your hands gripping his biceps as he pummeled into you until you simply could not hold it any longer. Sensing your closeness to the edge, Benedict somehow managed to speed up as he stared at your breasts, watching as they bounced every time he thrusted into you. His hips became sloppy as he felt how close he was as well.
âBenââ You gasped, unable to even finish a sentence.
âI know. I know. Iâm right there with you.â
In that moment, it felt as though fireworks exploded between you, your body convulsing in bliss and your mouth parting with cries of ecstasy. Benedict, equally overwhelmed, carefully lowered your leg before collapsing onto you, mindful not to crush you. The sensation was indescribable. Although Benedict had been with other women before, he knew he could never return to those empty encounters, for nothing compared to being with the one he truly loved.
As the euphoria gradually subsided, you both lay there, tangled in each otherâs embrace, feeling the warmth of your shared connection. Benedict gently brushed a strand of hair from your face, his touch tender and affectionate. His eyes, filled with a mix of satisfaction and devotion, met yours.
"You are heavenly," he whispered, his voice husky and sincere.
You smiled, feeling a surge of happiness and contentment. "So are you," you replied softly, your fingers tracing patterns on his back.
For a while, neither of you spoke, savoring the intimate silence and the steady rhythm of your breathing. It was in these quiet moments that you felt the depth of your bond, stronger and more profound than ever before.
Eventually, Benedict propped himself up on one elbow, his gaze never leaving your face. "I love you," he said, the words carrying the weight of his heart, âI will never leave you, and if I have to duel Lord Kensington or your father to have you as my wife, I will do so happily.
"I love you too," you replied, your heart swelling with emotion.
You both knew that this was just the beginning of something extraordinary, a journey of love and passion that you would navigate together, no matter what challenges lay ahead. No matter what the morning brought, no matter what your father said, whether he cast you out or forbade you from marrying Benedict, it didn't matter. You knew in your heart that you were meant to be Benedict Bridgerton's wife. It was always you. This new and sacred union would withstand the scrutiny of the ton and any obstacles thrown your way. Your love was destined, and nothing could change that. As long as you had each other, you could face anything the world decided to challenge you with.

hello have not been on here in literal years and reactivated simply to post my modern bridgerton hcs that came to me as i was falling asleep would not let me go until i wrote them down! enjoy!
~~~~~~~~~
the entire family is still very much british upper class - they regularly interact with the royals and attend all the family event like wimbledon and ascot. they are regularly featured in the pages of the tabloids much to their annoyance. they also went to either oxford, cambridge, or st. andrewâs (franny)
- anthony - still who he is, took over edmundâs position in the family business. huge company either a law firm, business like real estate or holdings. heâs ceo and damn good at his job. still viscount but it is really in name only.
- kate - still very much who she is, i can see her either going very much a lawyer or the artist route but i like to think of her as leaving her art as a hobby that she does simply for the pleasure of it.
- benedict - artist can do either painting or photography but has become very famous for it, initially it was because of the family name but then people started seeing his talent for what it is. his photos have been featured a bunch of times in british vogue and he is one of their go to photographers.
- sophie - very much a primary school teacher because of her experience with araminta as a child she was determined to not let that happen for other children so she makes damn sure that while they are at school in her class they know some one is looking out for them.
- colin - travel writer. he works for some magazine and has his own column. the magazine is owned by like some big media company that has their own building.
- penelope - pen works for a different magazine that is owned by the same parent company as colinâs so they work in the same building when colin is not on assignment. she secretly still runs lady whistledown that is like deux moi and once she gets outed she starts her own mini media empire. still besties with eloise.
- daphne - she is very much the perfect socialite philanthropist that is so perfect she seems like she would be a bitch but truly is that nice. is still married to simon after they fake dated due to some media scandal. lives her absolute best WAG life and has the season down to a science.
- simon - is a huge sports star, think david beckham. technically was still the duke but officially gave up the title to piss off his father. this man was born to be girl dad.
- eloise - once she realized just how much privilege she has, she put her money where her mouth is and is constantly going to protests much to anthonyâs annoyance (not because he doesnât agree with the cause just because she is giving the family a bad name in the press, he actually super proud of her.) el went to school for a degree in women and gender studies and is super involved in academia when not getting arrested.
- phillip/a - a botany professor at the university where el is based out of. still has the kids from their previous relationship with marina but they were able to get a divorce because it is the 21st century and co parent the twins quite well. their gender honestly doesnât matter for this, they love plants and eloise - the order of that is not important.
- francesca - autistic, it is important to me that you know that. she is a film composer, she loves getting to create the score for movies and that it doesnât require that much human interaction.
- john - still unfortunately passes away, but prior to that was some kind of finance guy. was generally the nicest guy and loved fran with his entire heart.
- michael/michaela - hot. like the most beautiful human being you have ever laid eyes on. they work as an actor because itâs fun but secretly are insanely smart and like build computers for fun.
- gregory - anthonyâs mini me and he wouldnât have it any other way. he works for the family company and loves it. generally small bean like but is insanely tall, like taller than benedict much to everyoneâs annoyance but no one more than hyacinth. he worships the ground lucy walks on but they only have three or four kids because they have access to birth control.
- lucy - a mini kate. also a lawyer whoâs family firm got bought by kateâs and then started working under her where she eventually met greg when he was visiting his favorite sister kate for their monthly lunch date. has ocd.
- hyacinth - a child prodigy, started university at like 15 (which she never lets greg forget) works as a ta (or whatever the uk equivalent is) for agatha who is an old family friend through whom she meets gareth. her field is like archeology or some other super niche thing. (agatha does not have to teach, she does it because if she doesnât how else will the new generation ever be taught the right way to do things)
- gareth - is so fucking chill but absolutely matches hyacinths freak. no one is quite sure what he does, he has explained it many times but no one truly knows even hyacinth.
- violet - was besties with princess diana (old money england) she unfortunately passes around the same time as edmund and she just loses it. luckily it is the modern days was able to get help but it took a little while. though once she is back on her feet she is a force to be reckoned with. she runs the family foundation which focuses on mental health and allergy awareness.
thank you for reading this! i will take no criticism at this time but welcome any addition thoughts!
Molly did you enjoy the Frannie scenes too! I already love John Stirling so much! So sad we know what's gonna happen, but I can totally see why Frannie and Michael would miss him so much when the time comes sadlyđ
I really enjoyed Francesca this season and I sat there, half falling in love with John myself hissing
âSee this is what I DIDNâT want!â
I didnât want to be slapped in the face when he passes away!
Francesca was so⌠painfully shy. And as an introvert who grew up in a family of extroverts with my Mum thrusting me into every social situation that would give me anxiety to this day; i felt that.
I really enjoyed her plot and Iâm glad Violet finally sees that sheâs interested in John because heâs gentle and quiet. She doesnât need a nudge at all. She just needs to figure things out on her own.
And Anthony recognizing that in episode 1 and allowing her some time alone was very sweet.
Ranking the Bridgerton books:
1. The Viscount Who Loved Me - 4 âď¸. Kate and Anthonyâs book is number 1 because the characters were true to themselves throughout the book, I understood their motives and that made them amazing characters to follow as they fall in love with each other. Itâs a great rivals to lovers, and seeing their love grow is beautiful. It made me giddy with happiness, kick my feet, cringe and made me almost cry. The angsty first time sex scene was everything I needed it to be. Season 2 was amazing, and the book is almost better!!
2. â When He Was Wicked - 4âď¸. Side note before I get into it: I loved Michealâs familial relationships in this book, as he grew up with his mother and Johns mother as parental figures, and I consider those two lesbian icons.
I loved reading Francesca and Michealâs story. When you meet them before their story begins in earnest you see their friendship, and they immediately jumped out of the page as two people who have a fun and interesting connection as friends and âcousins/ familyâ (theyâre not actually cousins, Micheal is Johnâs cousin). When you meet them four years after Johnâs death, they have to work to become friends again. In the midst of that you see that Micheal respects Francesca as the countess of Kilmartin as he left her in charge as he left England for four years. Because Michael and Francesca are technically family (Micheal becomes the new Earl of Kilmartin when John dies) and share some residencies the lack of propriety is expected so they are alone together. It brings them together and it lets them do wicked and sexy acts to each other, especially when the story moves to Scotland and they are alone together in the Scottish country-side ( and Francescaâs been married, the power dynamics in the bedroom were đĽľđĽľâ¤ď¸â¤ď¸). It was beautiful to see Francesca experience love and desire after loss, and after expecting to get married again just to produce a child (and also keep the Kilmartin name and estates sheâs run for years, and her connection with Micheal and John).
3. â Itâs in His Kiss - 4âď¸. Hyacinth and Gareth are the most well matched characters in the series. Hyacinth is such a riot and never shuts up and Gareth is her match. The banter between them is amazing. Hyacinth and Gareth have a shared goal in the book which makes it interesting and gets them into all kinds of trouble. As Hyacinth is a person who knows who she is, that also translated to the best first kiss and first time, as she was taking as much control as she could. There is some dodgy lines of consent in this series, and I appreciated the full and out loud consent Hyacinth gave at all steps. Theyâre great characters to read about, and Lady Danbury plays a prominent role which is so much fun.
4. â Romancing Mr Bridgerton - 4âď¸. Colin and Penelopeâs story ranks fourth because Colin is one of the worst men in this series, with his anger and resentment and hurt he causes Penelope both emotionally and physically were hard to read. I love Penelope in the book, 28 year old her is quietly confident and has some of the best lines of the whole series. This book also highlighted friendship, between Pen and Lady Danbury, Pen and the Bridgertons especially Eloise and Hyacinth and Pen and Colin. I also appreciate this book as the Lady Whistledown plot running parallel to the love story gave it intrigue and drama, and made up for the fact that the romance was very middle of the road.
5. â To Sir Phillip, With Love - 3âď¸. I was nervous about reading Eloise and Phillipâs love story because I had heard bad things about it, but it was fine. Phillip is a bad man, but all the men are in this series. I appreciated that Phillip knew he was bad and wanted to change himself and started to make changes in the small amount of time we had with him in the book, I respected his growth. Eloise is great, of course, speaks her mind, is talkative and interesting. I donât think they are the most well matched couple but I had an enjoyable time reading the book and I think when they did communicate it did work. Phillips kids from his first marriage are a riot and very well written as children in my opinion. I do read Eloise as queer in the books, she literally runs away from home to a guy sheâs never met because Penelope, her bestie she was planning to grow old together as a spinster, got married.
Side note: Penelope, Eloise and Francesca (to Micheal) get married in the same year and month in the books, poor Violet.
6. â On the Way to the Wedding - 3âď¸. Gregory and Lucy had an interesting story (there was action, twists and turns, guns, blackmail, a gay character), but I donât think they are well matched. Gregory believes so much about true love after watching the rest of his family marry for love, and Lucy values looking after her family and order. They didnât convince me they were meant to be, they clearly loved each other but was it enough? I was definitely getting jaded near the end of reading the series. And I kept thinking that Lucy is like 17 (sheâs the youngest of all the wives by a few years) and Gregory is 26, their age gap really took me out of the story.
7. â The Duke and I - 2.5âď¸. Just watch season 1, the book is almost the same with a little less characterisation and less exciting and beautiful sets and costumes. I respected Simonâs hold on his values, but it definitely conflicted with Daphneâs. I wanted to smash their heads together to communicate. As with the show, the best part is when they are fake courting.
8. â An Offer from a Gentleman - 1.5âď¸
Benedict and Sophieâs story ended up being my least favourite. I actually think Benedict and Sophie are well matched, but some of the things in this book really annoyed me. Benedict is the worst Bridgerton man/ sibling because of inexcusable actions he made in this book. I respected and enjoyed Sophie until she did something totally and completely out of character and then I stopped respecting her. My favourite part was when they met, my least favourite part was almost everything else.
[contains Bridgerton book series spoilers]
Iâm going to try to be careful with my words because my intentions are never to upset anyone especially members of a fellow marginalized community that I personally donât belong too. I am disappointed in the rewriting of Francescaâs story. A big part of her book is her deep love for John Sterling and struggle with infertility. She loved John more than anything and when he died she mourned for yearsss and only rejoined the marriage market because she desperately wanted kids of her own after losing their child. I understand queer representation is important to those in the LGBTQ+ community, but there are many books about LGBTQ+ love that Netflix could adapt into a show or movie. Heartstopper is an example of one theyâve adapted and Iâve seen so many people who love and resonate with that show. Or an alternative would be to make Eloise lesbian/bi because it would make more sense. Thereâs very little representation in media for women who struggle with infertility and Iâve heard from many women whose favorite book was Francescaâs because of how they related to her struggle. Not only that, but they made her immediately develop a crush on Michaela when in the books itâs Michael who immediately falls for Francesca upon meeting her and he struggles with those feelings when before and especially after John dies. To make Francesca have feelings for Michaela completely diminishes her love for John that makes her mourning so strong. Michael also has a big internal conflict with inheriting the Kilmartin estate after Johnâs death. This also takes representation from women who have lost their husbands while pregnant with their child(ren). Majority of the people I know who are upset about it arenât upset because of Francescaâs sexuality but because of how it throws away her whole story. One of my best friends is a black woman who is bi and has read all the books and before I even finished part 2 she was texting me upset because she herself has had a miscarriage and loved Francescaâs story.
I loved Season 3 so much (Violet Bridgerton Edition)
If you haven't guessed (God help you) Violet is my favourite character and I have a lot of thoughts about her storyline in Part 2.
First her storyline with John and Francesca. Something I really enjoy about Violet is that she is not perfect, and she actively learns from her past mistakes and tries to do better. That being said, she does still make mistakes. While she is significantly better this season at not pushing her children too hard in the marriage mart, she still does push Francesca a bit. I think she recognises that Francesca loves John, but she is not sure if she is in love with John. She is hesitant to speak to the Queen on their behalf, mostly because Agatha point blank tells her that the Queen will sniff out her doubts, even though Violet said her doubts do not matter in the face of Francesca's happiness. However, I do think Violet benefited from hearing that falling in love can look different, it does not always have to sudden and instantaneous and loud. Violet has a habit of expecting her children to experience love the way she did and it is important for her to recognise that her loved experience is not the only experience of true love. Also, Francesca forgave Violet, which I think was really important as well. An important part of growing up is realising that your parents are people too and as such, make mistakes. The scene of the two of them playing the piano together will live happily in my heart forever, as will John's acknowledgement of Violet's role in her children's lives.
I also found it quietly funny that Violet told Francesca she stumbled over her words the first time she met Edmund, then, not 5 minutes later, was stumbling over her words when speaking to Marcus. Not to mention that in part one, Violet had stumbled through her disastrous introduction to Marcus in the first place.
I love love loved seeing Violet and Marcus's story play out. Daniel Francis and Ruth Gemmell have amazing chemistry together and honestly were amazing in their scenes together. The way that he was constantly seeking her out at social events and he came to call on her was so sweet; even if Violet was so horny watching him eat that little dessert. I think Marcus should definitely be the one to tend her garden and I loved seeing them dance together. A romantic dance for the first time in 12 years for Violet. I enjoyed that she looked nervous but also excited to get to dance again. I also enjoyed that they put their relationship on the backburner to sort out their own issues. That's a really healthy outlook and I love that their communication is strong enough that they were comfortably able to talk about it. If I had my way, before season 4 we would get a prequel series about Young Violet and Edmund, paralleled with Violet and Marcus's proper courtship.
Marcus's scenes with Agatha were also top tier. Daniel Francis and Adjoa Andoh blew it out of the water, particularly in the scene where they both want to go after Violet when she's upset at the Mondrich ball. I feel like that scene hit really hard after watching QC:ABS and seeing just how miserable Agatha was in her arranged marriage. Also, seeing Agatha desperately trying to throw widows who are not Violet at her brother in the hopes that he would get distracted was hilarious, but I did appreciate that he did not waver in his feelings for Violet once. That is exactly what Violet deserves, not some wishy washy man who can't commit, like we were worried he would be, due to the rake comments from Part 1. I really appreciated that Marcus went and apologised, to resolve the matter almost as soon as he found out why Agatha was so angry at him. (her holding a grudge against a 10 year old is mildly hilarious, even if it leads to some pretty bad consequences) and that Agatha was willing to accept his apology and looked most pleased seeing him and Violet together after they had made up.
Now, Violet and Agatha's scenes. Oh my god, Ruth Gemmell and Adjoa Andoh give a master-class in acting because the two scenes they share, in Ep7 and Ep8 respectively are truly some of my favourite from across the whole show and spin off. This friendship between Violet and Agatha means so much and it is clear that neither of them want to jeopardise that friendship. The scene is Ep7 where Violet assures Agatha that their friendship is non-transactional is so important because all her life, Agatha has been told that in order to receive love, she has to provide something in return. Violet tells her, in no uncertain terms, that they will remain friends even after there are no more matches to make. For me as someone who struggled to make true friends for the longest time, seeing this relationship onscreen made me cry. And the scene in Ep8 where they finally actually talk about the discoveries made in QC:ABS is amazing as well. The cinematography in particular for this scene, I adored. The moment Agatha acknowledges that she loved Violet's dad, the camera hides away, behind the couch. When looking at Agatha, the camera is hidden away behind Violet's head. It feels like we are barely supposed to see that scene, because the two ladies are barely supposed to be talking about it. The filmography made the scene feel voyeuristic in a way, like the audience was not supposed to see it. This isn't even to mention the insane acting. I genuinely feel like I am just watching a conversation occur naturally between two people, not a scripted scene that is being acted out. The fact that they finally acknowledged everything from QC:ABS is also monumentsl as it means that Violet and Agatha are willing to move past that and continue their friendship, no matter what. Having Agatha say she will choose Violet over Marcus should he handle things wrong felt so wonderful as well, especially when you have the juxtaposition with Penelope and Eloise and Colin. And panning over to the hat at the end of that scene was wonderful. Not to mention the whole rest of that scene focused on Agatha reassuring Violet about Francesca and John as she had been doing all season.
If I could change anything about this I would add in two scenes. 1. Agatha consoling Violet after she runs out of the Mondrich Ball and 2. Getting Violet and Colin talking about the Whistledown reveal, because we were robbed of Ruth Gemmell's wonderful acting for that scene. I also want to know what was in that letter. I also would have liked to see Violet helping out a little more for Colin and Penelope, but I understand why she brought in Kate and Anthony to help him out.i would have loved more bonding scenes between Penelope and Violet and also Penelope and Agatha, but I was just glad we got the small crumbs of those relationships that we did. Three things I loved, when The Queen told everyone who was not a Bridgerton to leave, Agatha stayed right there and the Queen did not dare question her. And Anthony being overprotective over Violet and Kate telling him to chill. I do wanna see his reaction if we get Violet and Marcus seriously courting through. And the rest of her kids reactions to cluing onto Marcus was basically good for her, which I was very happy about and felt really healthy for their family dynamic.
I could talk about these three actors and these plot lines until the sun burns up, but that'll do for now
i can't stop laughing at straight people's reaction to francesca not being straight that's so fucking funny to me. literally saw a comment that said if they had to sacrifice one they should have gone for eloise and someone comparing it to sanding one of your kids to war like I can't oh my god they're insane. first of all: the gender swap is barely going to change anything. she can still have her struggles with infertility in her marriage with john, she can still profoundly desire motherhood and weather they make her finally come with child right before john's death or have her adopt kids similarly to Eloise, that entire plotline can still come to be JUST LIKE IN THE BOOK. the fact that Michael is now Michaela has very little impact on the story. they will fall in love after John 's passing and be together in their estate and historians will say they were roomates and maybe the only people who will know the extent of that relationship will be those most close to them and that is ALL. i really don't understand what the issue is??? like yeah there are going to be some minor changes because of the gender swap but???? also some people are saying that because of the kiss she shared with john and how she reacted to meeting Michaela, it seems Francesca is not in love with him. i think she herself explained it perfectly to Violet: she does love him even if it's not in the way her mother has imagined for her. obviously she is queer and she had an "oh" moment when she met michaela. it does not mean love at first sight, finding someone attractive and being in love with them are two very different things. and she cares deeply for john evidently. she will surely grive his death and fall for Michaela after.
in conclusion if you have a problem with the gender swap and are saying it ruins Francesca's story either you haven't thought about it for more then two seconds or you can just say you're homophobic and go because it literally changes close to nothing
The timeline for Season 3 Part 1 has been bothering me all month, so I broke it down the best I can and guys, maybe Iâm just stupid, but this is more rushed than I originally thought.
Letâs break it down.
SPOILERS BELOW:
So Colin comes back the day of the Debutante's Presentation. Presumably, that day or the next Penelope goes to Madame Delacroix to ask for a new wardrobe.
Now, in reality, a new wardrobe for a full Social Season would have included at least 10 simple dresses and 10 elaborate gowns, as well as gloves, bonnets, and shawls. A modiste with no or little assistants could, with no distractions, sew 10 dresses in a month, 10 gowns in about 3 months, and an additional 2 weeks for the accessories. Add in consultations (like the one we saw), design time, and fittings, and you are looking at approximately 4-6 months.
But we are not looking at reality, we are looking at Bridgerton, and we know that the time between when she consulted Madame Delacroix and the glow-up was the same time as the Debutanteâs Presentation to the Queen and Lady Danburyâs ball.
Lady Danbury stated that her ball was the first of the season, which was usually held a few days to a week after Presentations. Letâs say, for the sake of giving the timeline the benefit of the doubt, that Lady Danbury needed as much time as possible to prepare for such an elaborate ball (and that Madame Delacroix is a superhuman who can sew a full wardrobe in a matter of days), letâs put that at a week.
We know Colin visited Pen the very next day to apologize, especially since the previous nightâs Whistledown was published right after.
We also know Lady Whisteldown publishes Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays, and from their conversation it can be alluded to that there was no second Whistledown column between the one where she called Colin fake and their first lesson. Meaning their first lesson was the next day.
For the sake of, again, giving the timeline the benefit of the doubt, letâs say the second lesson where we learn their Meet Cute story was two days later, and that she read the diary during their next lesson two days after that.
That puts the ball where itâs exposed that Colin is helping Pen as happening that night, and The Kiss the following day after Whistledownâs column talked about it.
The next episode Portia comments that Penelope locked herself away for a week. So her conversation with Eloise was a week after The Kiss.
Since her hair and outfit is different, Iâm going to assume the Willow Tree conversation was the next day, and the party where she talks to Debling that evening.
The Balloon, we will say was one day later, and the Innovation Ball where Debling dances with Penelope was the following evening.
Debling calls on Penelope, and John calls on Francesca, the following morning. They are all wearing the same outfits at the Library Collection, so that was the same day.
We know âtomorrow eveningâ was Colinâs night of ârevelryâ, so Debling asks for Portiaâs hand and Colin gets drunk the following day.
That puts the Queenâs ball and the Carriage ride as the day after that.
So according to my calculationsâŚ
Colin getting back to their First Kiss was two weeks. Their kiss to the Hot Air Balloon was 9 days, and the Debling only courted Penelope for 4 days.
First Kiss to Carriage was 13 days.
Man did not âfall harderâ. Man plummeted at 180mph to the ground.
"These last few weeks have been a torment" sir, few weeks my ass it hasn't even been two weeks.
Ok so my takes on Bridgerton series 3 and my dream scenario for all(some of) the characters.
1) pen tells Colin heâs confused and runs away for an episode we get more fencing scenes with benny baby boy talking through feels but not spilling her secret. He talks to Eloise, pen and Colin make up (heâs too puppy and in love to not) they get married happy happy life.
2) Eloise and pen make up in the last ep of the series, apologies etc
3) I mean my dream scenario for Benedict would be I fall into the TV and marry him but barring that, him and hot badass blonde lady whoâs name I have forgotten have a fun time but he eventually realises through maybe a kanthony pregnancy and both Francesca and Colinâs weddings, that he does want to get married and have kids, so they talk about it, she doesnât want to marry again or have kids and they split up amicably sheâs a badass so sheâs a bit sad as he is but eventually fine maybe she goes travelling and has fun. Benedict is all set up and ready for his season next year.
4) already kinda mentioned but kanthony pregnancy & baby. (I donât know why my brain went wouldnât it be super cute if they had twins). Antony catches up on the working stuff and manages to relax and be a present and brilliant dad even more than he was for his youngest siblings.
5) Francesca marries John itâs cute theyâre cute they spend more time together, we learn his interest (other than being adorable and re arranging music for her) some of their time is spent actually getting to know each other, most just chilling, more of those silent calling hours, promenading together quietly, etc generally cute happy them vibes
6)Violet gets to have fun. Maybe her and Lady Danburyâs brother actually court with the intention of marriage maybe they just sleep together for fun. She deserves what ever she wants. (Also If she gets to sleep with him in Lady Danburyâs house that would be hilarious) (also payback âremember when you banged my dad?â) I Just want a happy time for Violet basically. Also sweet Violet and Francesca scenes, also sweet Violet and Benedict scenes generally sweet scenes of Violet being a lovely person to her children. And her and LD (cba typingher name again) being funny bffâs
7) Eloise⌠now this is interesting. We know Cressida is a raging lesbian. I think Cressida marries Debling, they like each other they get on etc, wedding night happens bcos they think they need to but then th rest of the honeymoon they travel she learns about things read relax she gets to experience freedom for a bit. Then they return to his house and she gets to have a great time living her dream life. And her and Eloise start writing to each other. They were friends with vibes this series we end the series at the start of their letters withe possibilities for the future. (In case u didnât realise. I ship it)
I didn't think I'd get so sad watching Francesca and John fall in love because I haven't read her book and the tv version of Francesca was so underdeveloped I had very little attachment to her. But man, seeing her face light up whenever John came up to her, seeing her perfect debutante mask fall when she was with him, seeing him truly listen to her when she has gone her whole life being kind of ignored because she was the easiest Bridgerton child just made my heart hurt so much for her. For future her.
Today on another episode of stories I'm too sleep deprived to write: past life reincarnation au. But it's just a universe where the Bridgertons fall in love but they never quite get their happy endings
Daphne saw a betrayed Simon chose to willingly get shot by Anthony and leave England in shame rather than marry her.
Anthony married Edwina and lived to know Kate died of a horseback riding accident shortly after the wedding
Benedict was rejected by Sophie, who chose to take the next ship to America instead of accepting his offer to be his mistress
Colin discovering her secret scared Penelope enough she vanished from his life without a trace.
Francesca never saw Michael again after he confessed he loved her.
And Eloise never took a chance on Sir Phillip, once she found out that he had children, she went back home with her brothers and tried to live her spinster life. Reason for which, he simply married another lady soon after his mourning period was over.
Hyacinth fell in love with Gareth, who chose to marry the next heiress he met rather than indulge her in her adventures
And Gregory was too slow and too late to Lucy's wedding. Knowing he was most likely the father of her and Haselby's only child
So, what happens when all your life you live to regret one mistake that cost you the love of your life. Wondering if you could have done anything different, then maybe you could have been happy.
And then a freak accident happens in Aubrey Hall and all the Bridgertons wake up on the morning of Daphne's debut.
Gregory and Hyacinth, rightfully horrified at having to go trough puberty again. Just want to see where young Gareth and Lucy are holed up and bring them to London, so at least growing up for a second time will be less terrible.
While Anthony is plotting exactly how to begin courting Kate Sharma despite knowing his disastrous marriage to Edwina left him jaded and broken in the romance department. And that he never got over Kate's death
Daphne has to tread the thin line between flirting with Simon and spooking him into running from her. Without resorting to a fake engagement
Benedict has the dubious mission of catching Sophie without tarnishing her reputation knowing she's wily enough to slip away from his grasp with whatever method he chooses. Even if he offered marriage, he would still need to take her out of Araminta's grasp and earn her trust. And his lady in silver is stubborn enough to resist him
Colin has to get close to Penelope without letting her find out he knows her secret while at the same time officially courting her like a gentleman and protecting her from the unsavory parts of her work. At the same time that he tries to infiltrate the steadily growing network of connections she built as LW that allowed her to disappear from his life in his first lifetime
Eloise has to live with the knowledge that she is now inlove with a very married man and worry about the moral implications of visiting Marina and befriending Phillip so soon after their marriage. After all, if Eloise intervenes Marina could live, but she'd lose Phillip again
And Francesca has to figure out quick, how to choose between her two great loves. Michael and John. Both of whom she never got over. Before it's time for her debut in society
If one mistake could cost you the love of your life, what mistakes exactly would you be willing to make? Well, the Bridgertons sure are going to find out
