Apple tarts and tiramisu
It was Monday 7:00, you had an opening shift and was already in the shop for a good half an hour to get the machines starting and take the chairs of the tables. You had opened the doors of the small coffee shop and the still fairly cool Barcelona air blew in. The shop was quite popular by the locals but not really known by others, there was a fairly steady customer base, there were also some offices nearby, from where business people sometimes came in for a coffee or lunch.
But your favorite customers were the football players of FC Barcelona, the coffee shop was down the street from the building where the club offered its players a house if they were international players or came from far inside of Spain.
In the middle of the morning rush an unfamiliar face walked in.
‘’¿Qué puedo hacer por ti?’’ (what can I get you) You said.
‘’Lo siento,’’ the beautiful women said in broken Spanish but with a nice accent ‘’todavía no hablo español, puedes hablar inglés’’ (Sorry, I can’t speak Spanish yet, do you speak English?)
‘’Oh yes, ofcourse’’ you smiled ‘’what can I get you?’’
‘’An iced matcha latte with soy milk please’’ The women said.
‘’Good choice’’ you stated ‘’finally something else then these café solos and cortados, and what is your name?’’
‘’Lucy’’ the women said smiling as she paid and walked to the other side of the counter were your colleague was making and handing out the drinks.
You went on to help the next costumers but not without watching ‘lucy’ as you just found out her name was, getting her drink after her name was called.
Lucy walked away with her drink and you couldn’t help but think about what brought her in, you thought she might be a tourist, even though at first you hadn’t expected that she couldn't speak Spanish, she didn't look like a tourist.
////
It went on like that for a couple of days, Lucy came in every morning that week. You worked Monday to Friday and had the weekend off, when you opened the shop again the next Monday you found yourself hoping to see the English lady again.
The past Thursday you had learned that she was English, that morning she had come in a little later and the shop was quiet, while you made her order you two had chatted, you asked how her pronunciation could sound so good if she could not speak Spanish, then she said that she could speak French and a bit of Portuguese and of course English, and that she was learning Spanish for her job, she had told you she moved from England to Spain for her job.
You hoped she would be in at the end of the morning again and not during the morning rush.
A few hours went by and you hadn’t had the time to wonder about her again because this Monday morning had been very busy and it seemed like about the whole office from across the street wanted a coffee today.
But then she walked in, and this time with a cute little white furred four-legged friend.
‘’Hola guapas’’ you laughed ‘’who have you brought with you, what a cutieee’’.
Lucy smiled ‘’hello, y/n, this is Narla, she is my dog’’
‘’Aw, why haven’t I seen her before!’’
‘’Well I didn’t know if the shop was pet friendly but this weekend I saw someone else with their dog in here so I thought it was okay’’ Lucy shyly admitted.
‘’Oh Lucy, you could’ve asked you know,.. also’’ you said as you pointed to the chalk mural behind you ‘’look, pup-cup and bowl of water $0,00’’ you read ‘’we love perritos here’’. (perritos = dogs)
‘’that’s nice, I bet she would love a pup-cup’ Lucy said, ‘’but also, I can only bring Narla when I have a day off, yesterday I played so today we have the day off’’ she turned to the dog ‘’right Narla, we are gonna have so much fun walking around Barcelona, don’t we’’ she said in a high-pitched voice, like most people do when they talk to their pet.
‘’Ahh’’, you said, ‘’now it makes sense’’
Lucy looked up ‘’huh?’’
‘’You’re a football player?’’ you smiled ‘’right?’’
‘’Yeah, I just signed for Barcelona, but what makes sense then?’’ she smiled questioning.
‘’Oh’’ you blushed only now realizing that you had kind of admitted that you had been thinking about her ‘’It makes sense that you know different languages and that you have come to this coffee shop every day, you probably live in one of the Barca apartments here’’
‘’Oh dear, you’re not going to stalk me, are ya?’ Lucy chuckled, partly laughing about your flushed cheeks.
You spilled a bit of the soy milk you were pouring, ‘’oh god no, sorry, I just- I- , we have a lot of barca players coming in, it is known that there are players live here, they come in quit often actually’’
‘Haha, don’t worry, I was just kidding, I actually got recommended this coffee shop by one of the girls, and actually, I kind of figured you already knew, which I guess makes me kind off a dick, so—’
‘’Nah, you’re not a dick, you're really nice, actually, can I offer you an apple tart? Its on the house, its homemade and it has no sugar in it, but it's not disgusting like the healthy junk’’
Lucy smiled broadly ‘’food is always good’’ , ‘’and with that description you have made me curious, so yes please’’
‘’Good’’ you said ‘’you can take a chair outside or here’’ pointing to the tables inside the shop ‘’or would you rather have it to go?’’
‘’Hmm’’ Lucy said while thinking about it, ‘’guess ill take a chair in the sun, I have the day off after all, might as well take it to the fullest’’
‘’ Yes, I would do that too, good choice, here is your matcha latte’’ you said as you handed her the cup ‘’I will bring the rest to your table in a second’’
‘’Thank you’’ Lucy said as she walked outside.
Two other costumers came in and you helped them, they wanted two coffees to go. After that the shop was empty again.
After a bit you came out with a little cup of whipped cream for the dog and the apple tarte for Lucy. ‘’There you go’’
‘’Oh thank you, that looks good, did you make that yourself?’’
‘’Nahhh’’ you said ‘’my mother made it, this is her cafe actually’’
‘’Ah, that was that beautiful woman behind the counter this weekend’’ Lucy said playfully.
You pushed her shoulder ‘’hey’’
‘’what’’ she acted offended ‘’can’t I call people beautiful? I thought that was nice, also I reckon you said ‘’hola guapas’’ just now, and although my Spanish is not very good yet, I do happen to know what that means’’.
You laughed now too ‘’yeah yeah , I guess if I said that, you can do that too’’.
Then Lucy asked you boldly ‘’Do you perhaps have a bit of time to sit with me? Or do you have to get back to work?’’
‘’I guess I can, shop is empty, but if someone comes I’ll have to go’’ you said as you took the seat next to her.
‘’How come you can speak English so well?’’ She asked you after the two of you had chatted for a bit.
‘’oh that’s a good story actually, I studied to be an English teacher, and after I graduated I did that for 2 years, but then my mom got the opportunity to open a bakery, but she couldn’t find people to hire for this shop, so she wanted to turn it down, when I heard that I resigned and now I work here every workday so my mom can bake’’
‘Wow’ Lucy said after her mouth was empty, while you had told your story she had eaten half of the tart ‘’I love that you did that, because this tastes amazing’’ ‘’but if I understand correctly, your mother works every day, seven days a week, isn’t that tiring?’’
‘’Yeah’’ you laugh ‘’but you don’t know her, she is inexhaustible, sometimes I think she has adhd, but lately it has gotten better with staff, she hired more people, she even went on a holiday this summer, she hadn’t done that in like 5 years.’’
You talked some more and it also touched on Lucy's own experience with adhd, you found out that she had recently been diagnosed, but that it helped Lucy to exercise and since that was literally her job, she said it didn't bother her that much on a day to day base. When new customers arrived, Lucy thanked you and you gave her a tip about a nice spot with a fountain and some greenery before she walked off.
////
This is how it went for a few weeks, Lucy came to get a matcha to go before her training or if she was free a matcha and an apple tart, sometimes she came in with others.
This day she hadn’t come in, it was already quit late in the afternoon and then you saw almost the whole Barcelona femenino squad rounding the corner.
You had just wiped the whole counter and had put everything away, ready to close the coffee shop for siesta time.
One of them entered the shop, and talked to you in Spanish ‘’Hey I was wondering if we could eat lunch here? I know it’s really late but our team had some meetings which were running very late, so the kitchen at the complex was already closed and Lucia suggested that we could eat something here, but we see now that you are already closing things down so I thought I would ask’’.
‘’Lucia?’’ You asked
‘’Yeah, she is one of our new players, English, there’’ she said, while pointing at the dark haired defender ‘’honestly she doesn’t shut up about the apple tarts here’’
Lucy had walked in after seeing Alexia point at her. But you stood with your back to the door, talking to the football player so you didn’t see her walking up.
‘’ohhh Lucy, does she go by Lucia, I thought it was Lucy’’ you said back in spanish.
‘’Both is fine actually’’ Lucy said behind you ‘’but why are we discussing my name when we could be eating pastries’’. She laughed.
You turned around, also laughing ‘’haha, yes sorry, tell them to come in and then you all can order’’
Not Lucy but Alexia walked away to get the teammates.
You asked ‘’so Lucia huh?’’
Lucy smiled ‘’Haha, both is acceptable, I mean on my passport is Lucia, but I guess because I grew up in England it just got Lucy and my dad was the only one calling me Lucia, but the Spanish girls like Lucia more I think, they all call me that’’.
‘’What do you like to be called the most?’’ You asked as the teammates were walking in and took chairs from the tables and handed out the few menus from the counter to each other.
Mariona called over ‘’Lucy you coming? You can sit here, what did you recommend again, I forgot what it was called’’.
‘’Oh I better go help her, but honestly I bet we could order anything and it’ll be tasty’’ she walked past you and whispered "but to answer your question, guapa is nice"
For a second you had to think about what she meant, but then it dawned on you, she had just told you she liked it when you called her guapa. Was she flirting? You thought and actually you hoped so, because if you were honest, the English lady was one of the most common topic of thoughts these last few weeks.
////
You had taken everyone’s orders and you now stood working behind the counter with the background sound of laughter and different conversations.
When the coffee was simmering, you grabbed the baked goods that had been ordered. While laying everything on plates on the tray you caught eyes with Lucy, she looked away quickly and pretended to listen to the conversations around her.
You kept looking at her while plating the baking’s and when she looked at you again you winked at her. Her cheeks flushed and she looked away again.
You grabbed the two trays and handed out the plates to everyone, ending at Lucy, ‘’the drinks are coming right up’’ you said in Spanish and repeated in English looking at Lucy.
‘’Nah’’ Salma said ‘’we say everything in Spanish to her, she wants to learn and she has to’’.
‘’Ah, español para la defensora inglesa, lo tengo’’ (ah, spanish for the english defender, got it) you joked.
‘’thanks Salma, I had just found someone in the city to whom I could speak normal English and not have to speak super slow and now you also order her to speak Spanish to me’’ Lucy groaned jokingly
‘’Sorry babe, pero tienes que aprenderlo’’ Salma said. (you have to learn it)
Everyone laughed and got caught up back in their own conversations.
You held Lucy’s shoulder ‘’we can stick to English if you really want that, but I was just thinking if you would like I can tutor you in Spanish, I normally teach English but I can teach you Spanish’’
You didn’t wait for an answer and quickly went back to the bar to serve everyone their drinks before you slipped in the back and started on some long overdue tasks that your mom had asked you to do a month ago but that were just boring storage chores.
After a good hour you went back in the shop, you still heard the girls talking and no one had pushed the call button on the counter so you knew the team was still occupied, you were freezing because the last 15 minutes you had spent in the freezer room doing inventory. With the clip board you went back behind the counter, ticking everything in to the laptop that was stood open.
‘’Hello’’
You recognized the voice before you looked up, it was Lucy.
‘’hola guapa’’ you joked after seeing she was stood by herself.
‘’oh yeah, spanish, so you were serious on your offer?’’
‘’Que’’ you pretended to not know English anymore.
‘’Eh .. me gusta .. acepte tu oferte .. oferta?.’’ (I would like to accept your offer about those lessons).
You smiled while you correct her ‘’Me gustaría aceptar tu oferta’’ “But okay, if we start doing lessons, we can keep Spanish for the lessons and stick to English for now”
‘’Thanks, it’s not fair really, the Spanish lessons I get are all about football and things around that, I cant really get by in real life with that knowledge’’ She huffed.
You got your phone out ‘’okay so when are you free, for me the weekend or evenings work best’’.
Lucy stared at you.
‘’The Spanish lesson?’’
‘’ah yeah’’ Lucy laughed nervously and also took her phone out of her pocket ‘’uhm, Saturday evening? I have a match in the afternoon so I have to rest after that,. but we can do it sitting down right?’’ She tried to joke but it came out sounding more cheeky then she had meant and she blushed immediately, ‘’I mean like we will not be running’’ she hastily added.
You laughed but replied bold ‘’Yes, we can do it sitting down and we will go really slow’’ but then added ‘’because fast Spanish is very hard to understand ofcourse’’.
Lucy got more at ease, realizing you didn’t mind her flirting even if it had come out unintentionally.
‘’Maybe we can text about the details?’’ Lucy asked handing her phone with the contacts open, ready for you to put your info in.
‘’Ah are you asking me for my number’’ you joked
‘’for educational purposes only’’ she stated ‘’and maybe to ask if the teacher would mind doing the lesson over some dinner?’’
‘’Dinner, that sounds nice’’ handing the phone back ‘’okay, just text me the details, I’ll be there, . with textbooks’’.
‘’Okay’’ Lucy said and turned around to go back to the tables.
You went back to the computer and wanted to get back to what you were doing until you heard her again.
‘’Oh I almost forgot I also came here to pay’’ she chuckled.
You laughed and typed something into the cash register before turning the card reader towards her. ´’easily distracted?’’
She typed in pin after tapping her card against the machine and murmured ‘’not easily but with pretty girls around, yes’’
‘’Oh I thought it was your adhd’’ you replied back
Lucy laughed ‘’oh yeah, maybe I should’ve gone with that’’
The register showed the little green check making clear that the payment was successful ‘’No, I think I like our little tradition,. Guapa’’ you said while handing her the receipt.
Lucy laughed ‘’Okay ill keep that in mind, thank you’’ while she took the receipt from you, her fingers brushed lightly against yours ‘’also thank you so much for staying open for us and making the kitchen dirty again, im sorry about that’’.
‘Haha, don’t worry, it was my pleasure, I hope everybody liked their food’’
////
The days went by pretty quickly, Lucy had texted you a few hours after the team had left the shop and after every time she had gotten a matcha latte she had texted you how good it was.
Today was matchday, also the day that you were going to teach her some Spanish over dinner.
Going from a teacher to a barista made you a bit more broke, a gap that you tried to overcome with some freelance tutoring and some translating jobs here and there, but one big improvement was the free time that had come with the change.
No more papers to grade, no more lessons to prepare. So now, just like every other weekend, you were done with breakfast and was thinking about what you could do this day.
After you had done some cleaning around the apartment, which was already pretty tidy and you had done the laundry, you suddenly thought about your ´date´ tonight, you plopped on your bed and texted your best friend.
@y/n: i met someone cute and tonight im gonna teach her Spanish , help what do I wear??
*incoming FaceTime*
You accepted laughing.
‘’What the actual fuck y/n!!’’ your best friend said.
‘’What?’’ You said, still laughing.
‘’No, don’t play games with me, I hear nothing for like two weeks from you, the last time we spoke was at the gym if I remember correctly, and here I was thinking, oh im sure she’s busy with some project again, damn maybe even helping out her mom, and now I find out you were withholding me from this information, share the details, now!!’’
‘’Hahaha, Im sorry, you know how I get, I forget everything around me when im busy’’
‘’yeah okay, now hurry up tell me everything’’
‘’I love that about our friendship, that we—
‘’Y/N! who , what, where, when? ‘’
‘’Okay okay, I met her in the coffee shop, she came in one day and since then she came in everyday, I found out she just moved here from England for her job, first I didn’t know what she did, then I found out she is a football player, because she told me, and a few weeks later she didn’t come in that morning but in the afternoon the whole team came in because they hadn’t eaten yet, so I took em in, while the shop was closed, then they were teasing her a bit about having to learn Spanish faster even though she just came to this country, and she does not even bad, I mean she has the accent under control, but she told me she is half Portuguese and also she speaks French…
You looked at your phone again, halfway through your ramble you had started staring out the window as you spoke, now you saw your best friend looking at you with her mouth open.
‘’what?’’ you asked ‘’did I say something crazy?’’
‘’Lucy Bronze?’’ She asked ‘’I think you spoke with Lucy Bronze’’
‘’Yeah she is called Lucy, funny how do you know that, although,, the team calls her Lucia actually and… she told me.. I could call her guapa’’.
‘’Wow, I mean, I know you said the Barca player visit your shop, hell, I even met some off them when I was there, but like, damn, you picked up one, and I will tell you how I know her name, she is one off the best players in the world, y/n damn, she won best player of the world did you even know that, also what? Guapa?’’
You explained everything with even more detail and when your friend was finally happy with everything she knew, she asked ‘’so you know she has a game this afternoon right?’’
‘’Yeah’’ you said ‘’I will watch that I guess, if I figure out how I can, you watch It right, can you explain how I can watch that, is it a tv channel?’’
‘’Bruh’’ your friend scolded ‘’I have tried to convince you so many times to watch with me, and now one hottie comes around and you do it in a second’’
‘’You should’ve told me the players were hot , I just thought you were watching for your PE teacher reasons, inspiration for your classes or something’’ you said.
‘’You have them in your shop every week y/n, you see by yourself how they look’’
‘’yeah I just hadn’t thought about it like that’’ you said ‘’wait what did you say her name was again, im on my laptop on Instagram, I want to look at her page’’
‘’Lucy B .. R.. O .. N..
‘’Ah, got it’’ you called out ‘’woah, she has a lot of followers jeez, hey you follow her’’
‘’Yeah, ever since she played at Lyon, that was really her prime, she was so good, she still is, but you know her age and everything..’’
‘’Age?’’ you asked ‘’and everything?’’
‘’She has had like 7 knee operations, and she is 31 I believe, in football that’s old., wait actually she is 31.. isn’t that a bit old for you?’’’
You thought about it ‘’well im 25, so I guess that’s fine, damn, is she really that old? She made a younger impression, hadn’t guessed’’
‘’haha, you should tell her that, in that order too, no actually I think I once saw in an interview that her age was a sensitive point for her, so maybe don't bring it up’’
You laughed ‘’pfft, im not not going to talk about such things, if her ego is to big or she has weird quirks im out’’ ‘’she is hot tho, damn, I scrolled down to far I think, Im now seeing a bikini pic, she has abs for days damn..’’
‘’well she sure is fit’’ your best friend said ‘’if I were gay I would want to bang her too’’
‘’Oh mierda’’ you called out ‘’fuck I liked it accidentally’’
Your best friend was dying of laughter ‘’guess she will very clearly know your intentions now’’
‘’Okay I followed her also and liked the top three pics as well, she probably wont even notice, with so many followers she surely wont have notifications on right?’’
‘’Yeah true’’ your friend said, serious again.
*@never2old4lionking started following you*
‘’huh’’ you said
‘’what’’
‘’some -never too old for lionking- followed me, its an account with like 550 followers and 500 following, im guessing it’s a) Lucy herself or b) a lucy stalker, what do you think?’’
‘’yeah stalker probably,, or maybe its like an secret account, because she is famous and all that, she cant follow her side chicks on her main’’
‘’Oh shut up’’ you huffed ‘’you pest, you-
You got interrupted by a dm, ‘’wait they send me something’’
@never2old4lionking: hola, you like my pictures? -L (maybe better known as guapa to you)
‘’OMG , it is her! Look’’ you screamed, and showed your laptop screen to your phone.
‘’Wow, reply!’’ your friend said ‘’just say you were curious about how you could watch the game because you don’t know how too and that’s why you looked her up’’
‘’Okay, lame excuse, but my brain is currently not working’’ you sighed as you typed something like that to Lucy.
@never2old4lionking: aw here I was, thinking you fancied me, and you were just looking for dodgy streaming links ☹
@y/n: why do think I was looking up how to watch, I have never watched a game, never knew there were hot people involved
@never2old4lionking: I thought you said the players are regulars at the coffee shop
@y/n: Do you have a link or what?
@never2old4lionking: I have tickets?
@y/n: what?
@never2old4lionking: its an at home game, so its around the block, just come and watch irl,
@never2old4lionking: I’ve heard the players look even better irl than on the screen 😉
@y/n: well if you put it like that..
@never2old4lionking: 1 or 2 tickets?
@y/n: I thought you were playing 😉
@never2old4lionking: hahah, your so funny! I mean do you want to take a friend with you?
‘’Say yes, say yes’’ your friend practically screamed as she heard you reading the conversation out loud while typing.
‘’Okay then’’
@y/n: ah, yes that would be nice, I have a PE teacher friend, they love football, she would be thrilled
@never2old4lionking: okay, I’ll send the e-tickets to you on WhatsApp, you sit In the friends and family section, ill try if I can spot you!
@y/n: watching my first football game live and in the family&friends section is something I would’ve never guessed
@never2old4lionking: first- like ever????
@y/n: yeah? Something wrong?
@never2old4lionking: yes? You have a friend that loves football, as you say, and you have never watched??
‘’See, I like her already, I told you sooooo manyyy times, just watch’’ your friend said excited.
‘’I can stop reading?’’
‘’ No no, okay ill shut up’’
@y/n: yeah, she asked me so many times to watch with her, she will probably either kill me when I tell her this or she’ll be your biggest fan, for getting me to watch
@never2old4lionking: hope the latter, need you alive tonight x
@y/n: yes exactly, Spanish lessons are v important ! I’ll tell her that.
@never2old4lionking: okay, ill see you soon, if anything doesn’t work just say you come for me, ill put your names on my list of guests
You shared your and your friends name and put your laptop off and away, ‘’ so now we can go back to what I was texting you about originally , outfits, but now thanks to you I have an extra event, not only teaching spanish but also watching her play, I don’t even have a barca shirt’’
‘’which is crazy by the way’’ your friend interrupted you ‘’but I have three, so you can borrow one, do you want a training shirt, a shirt with my name on the back or Putellas?’’
‘’Who is Putellas’’
‘’omg, wait ill send you a picture’’
…
‘’oh her!, yeah I like her, she asked if they could sit in the café, she is polite’’
‘’that’s the team captain- , ugh y/n I love you so much, do you know how many people would lose their shit by what just happened, getting tickets to watch them from an actual player’’
‘’okay calm down, they’re just people, and they happen to have a special job, but should I behave different then?’’
‘’no no, I think this only happens to you because you are so pure’’ your best friend said
‘’oh come on’’ you called out ‘’just say thank you for the ticket, not all this soppy shit please’’
////
After your friend and you had hung up, your mom had called if you wanted to eat at your parents tonight, you briefly explained the situation, telling her you were eating dinner at someone else’s house and the plan about teaching her some Spanish.
But your mother saw right through you as usual, "so a date" she said excitedly ‘’wait you should bring desert, I made tiramisu, ill drop it off right now’’
Before you could even begin to form an answer she had hung up, 15 minutes later your doorbell rang and a bit after that your mom was gone again and you had an entire glass tray of tiramisu in your fridge.
You texted her thanks with a red heart, knowing she was the best mother you could ever wish for.
Your mom replied, ‘’good luck, she’s cute, hope it goes well’’
You didn't understand why your mother would know she was 'cute' but replied 'thanks'
////
Your friend and you had gotten through all the entrances and security and were finally sitting on the seats assigned to you. You were both wearing a denim skirt and an FC Barcelona shirt.
The team was doing a warm up and there was music blasting trough the speakers ‘’damn’’ you said to your friend ‘’was it always such a spectacle, they are putting on a whole show’’
‘’I mean live in the stadium it’s a show yes, honestly I should’ve thought of this sceme wayyy earlier, what a master plan! You flirt with players, we get to go to the matches for free’’ she laughed.
‘’you can forget it bitch’’ you said pushing her side
‘’what’’ she innocently said ‘’if Bronze doesn’t work out you could try Putellas, she is fruity too, and your already wearing her name’’ she laughed at that last part.
You pushed your friend again ‘’well shut up otherwise this’ll be the first and last time , I didn’t want to wear your name, what if she thought you were my girlfriend’’ you fake gagged.
Now it was your friends turn to push you ‘there was another option you know, the training one’’.
‘’Okay maybe I want to provoke her a bit’’ you admitted.
Your friend looked at you stunned not even knowing what to say.
‘’what?’’ you shrugged ‘’it will be funny, and if not, then I know I wont have to waste time on her’’.
‘’And you wonder why you are single?’’
////
Your friends hand waved before your eyes , you blinked.
‘’hellooo y/n’’ ‘’ the ball is on the other side of the field you know’’ she whispered.
FC Barcelona was 4 nil ahead and currently in ball possession, but that was indeed not what you were looking at, you were looking at nr.15 who had pulled her shirt up to wipe her sweaty face and was now running forward again.
‘’Damn, did you see her abs’’ you quietly said
‘’Bruh y/n, since when are you such a horny mf’’ she quietly replied.
‘’Its been a while okay, but also she’s very hot, it cant just be me’’
‘’No there are thousands of thirstraps made about her’’ your friend laughed.
‘the what what?’’
‘’huh’’ she now looked at you ‘’you don’t know what those are?, oh you are in for a treat!’’
She quickly showed you some things on her phone.
‘’NO’’ you held a hand before your eyes ‘’í cant be watching this, this is not okay, I am supposed to meet the woman in a few hours, sit next to her and all that, eat dinner, teaching her Spanish, damn’’
‘’sorry’’ your friend said, putting her phone away and holding her hands in the air.
‘’Wait can I see it one more time’’.
‘’Nahhhh’’ she laughed, ‘’you are right, you have to act normal later, just watch her here, look’’
And you were just in time to see her score with an header assisted with a corner shot from Guijarro.
////
That evening, after you had changed at home, you rang Lucy’s doorbell with a stack of books in your hands.
‘’Hello pretty lady, come in’’ Lucy called trough the intercom.
On the table there was paella, you were sure she had ordered it, even recognizing were she had ordered it, because you loved that shop too.
‘’Sorry I didn’t have time to cook, I had this thing this afternoon’’ Lucy joked.
‘’Ah, no worries, I had a busy afternoon myself’’ you joked back.
‘’Yeah I tried to look for you but sadly didn’t see you, you did come right?’’
‘’Ofcourse, wouldn’t want to miss that header of yours, wait’’ you said as you got your phone ‘’ill show you pictures’’
You showed her the pictures of you and your friend, you paused when it was a photo with your back visible, look we had a really good view, ‘’thanks again for the tickets, my friend had the best time also’’.
‘’Nice shirt’’ lucy grinned ‘’didn’t have a better one?’’
‘’To be honest, I borrowed this shirt from my friend, I don’t own any football shirts'' you grinned ''but whats wrong with it, you don’t like your captains shirt?’’
‘’No you look good, bet you’ll look even better with Bronze on the back’’ Lucy said still grinning.
‘’Hm, I’ll think about it, maybe if she scores more beautiful goals like that, I’ll walk past the Barca store and grab one’’. You said, acting unbothered.
‘’Okay okay, challenge accepted, next goal I score, you will wear a Bronze shirt’’.
‘’Sure’’ you laughed.
////
The evening went on, the two of you ate and practiced some Spanish, the books hadn’t been opened at all, it was more like Lucy said sentences and you translated them into Spanish and she repeated them to you and then used them in context.
‘’And what is -you played well today-‘’ Lucy asked
‘’Do you just want me to say that to you?’’ you laughed
‘no no’ Lucy laughed ‘now it sounds really bad, yeah no, I want to say it to Aitana, she cant speak english at all really, now i just say bien bien bien to her every second, feeling like a fool’’..
‘’ah okay, its ‘‘jugaste bien hoy’’ you laughed.
Lucy said it a few times, you looked at her nodding because her pronunciation was perfect.
The two of you were sat at the same side of the table, turned in your seats, facing each other.
Then she said ‘’I really want to kiss you right now’’
‘’Okay, I don’t even want to know who you’ll be saying that to’’ you joked, but its "Tengo muchas ganas de besarte ahora mismo". You looked her in her eyes.
‘’si, me too’’ Lucy grinned as she leaned in.
You accepted the initiation and pressed your lips against hers. She tasted amazing and also a bit like the paella you just ate. She placed her hands on you, trying to get you closer. You obliged and scooted forward. After the gentle exploration of each others mouths you pulled away slowly ‘’hmm, that was nice’’ you said, smiling at her.
Lucy nodded and smiled back ‘’very'', ''and just for clarification, that last sentence I did just wanted you to say to me''. She said while turning her chair, so she had the back rest in her back again but was still facing you.
You leaned in again, smiling against her lips you whispered ‘’I figured’’ and you kissed her again.
//
Her hands found your hips again, trying to pull you even closer to her, which wasn’t possible because your legs where already pushed against hers. The kiss deepened and you had your hand on the back of Lucy’s head. She was still pulling you towards her, you pulled from her mouth and kissed along her jaw. ‘’Come here’’ Lucy said with a heavy voice. ‘’Are you sure?, aren’t your legs like… tired and in need for a rest?’’ you whispered in her ear and kissed it softly.
Lucy laughed and held your face in front of hers ‘’thank you for caring but I really want you to sit on my lap,’’ ‘if you want that too ofcourse’’
You got up on her lap ‘’I haven’t learned you a lot of Spanish and now I’m disturbing your recovery, I hope I don’t have a bad influence on you..’’ you said in a seducing voice pointing a finger in her chest.
‘’Well, it sounds bad when you list it like that, luckily the dinner went well, but maybe we should make an extra effort for dessert’’ she wiggled her eyebrows at you on the last part.
‘’Mierda!’’ you said as you stood up. ‘’Shit, dessert’’
‘’I’m sorry’’ she looked a bit shocked ‘’did I take it too far, too fast?’’
You took her hand and said ‘’no, no, sorry for scaring you, I just remembered when you said dessert, that I forgot the dessert, its still in my fridge at home, mom made it and wanted me to bring it’’.
‘’You talked with your mom about me?’’ she grinned as she stood up.
‘’yeah, well no, I said I was going to eat dinner somewhere else when she asked me to eat at home, and then she filled in herself that it was a date and then she dropped off a tiramisu and emphasized that I had to take it with me because she was sure my date would like it’’ you rolled your eyes at that last part ‘’but I forgot so I don’t even know why I bring it up’’.
‘’ugh, I love Elena’’ Lucy said ‘your mom is actually amazing you know’’.
‘’huhhh, how do you know my moms name???’’
Lucy chuckled ‘’the beautiful lady behind the counter in the weekends? Oh you know, we talk about our shared interests’’
‘’Like?’’ you asked, faking a stern look at Lucy.
Lucy chuckled again and closed the gap between the two of you ‘’just food, nice weather and you know.. you’’. She laughed ‘’funny story actually, this morning she asked me If I wanted to eat dinner with her and her husband, eh your dad, because I had inspired her to make tiramisu again but she had made 2 trays accidentally and now she had to much, but I said to her that I really liked the offer but that I had a dinner date tonight, but that wanted a raincheck, but that she didn’t understand,,.. speaking of that, how do I explain raincheck in Spanish’’
You laughed and gave her a quick kiss ‘’wait now her text makes sense’’.
‘’what did she say’’ Lucy asked excitedly.
‘’She’s cute, hope it goes well, . I wondered how she could ever know’’ when you saw her cocky smile you pushed her to her chest ‘’don’t let it go to your head stupid’’.
‘’Soooo, are we going to yours?’’ She asked.
‘’Well I guess if you want that dessert, then yeah’’ you said ‘’but the dessert you were talking about just now also sounds kinda good?’’
She gasped jokingly ‘’kinda good, you mean amazing, mind blowing, indescribable?’’
You laughed ‘’woooww, cocky much?’’
‘’Well I guess we should go to yours, then have both and you can rate it yourself’’ Lucy grinned.
////
The two of you were making out in the elevator but then the ‘ding’ sounded, that indicated you had reached the top floor, the floor of your apartment.
You had an apartment in the center of Barcelona, a quaint old building with nice high ceilings.
You opened the door and dropped your keys in the bowl that stood on the cupboard in the hallway.
‘’Wow’’ Lucy chimed ‘’this is nice, your place has so much character’’.
Your place had dark oak floors, and the accents of your interior were dark green with gold and orange accessories, there were plants here and there, including in the kitchen, where there were plants with edible leaves such as basil and chives. It was pleasantly cool in the apartment, not because of air conditioning but because the walls were so thick and all the window shutters had been closed all day.
‘’yeah i love this place, bought it a year ago through an acquaintance, I was really lucky getting it’’
Lucy smiled at you ‘’show me around?’’
////
After a while of looking at your view from the roof terrace you stood back in your bedroom, the air between the two of you thick with unanswered lust, as she stretched as you closed the balcony door you saw her abs as her t- shirt lifted up a little, she was wearing a t-shirt and shorts, and you saw an edge of her underwear, she was wearing boxers, - god - you thought to yourself - she's so incredibly attractive- and you couldn't help but I thought back to the thirst trap your best friend had shown you that afternoon.
You left the key in the door and walked over to her "where were we" you said softly in her ear as your hand disappeared under her shirt.
‘’hmm’’ she groaned as you placed wet kisses from her ear to her neck.
She picked you up and walked to your bed, "I believe we were kissing in the elevator, but I guess we can continue here."
Lucy sat on the edge of the bed with you on your lap, you pulled her shirt over her head, she wanted to do this to you too but you stopped her when you suddenly remembered that you hadn't put on any sexy underwear at all, you had wearing comfortable underwear that you had been wearing all day and when you changed to go to Lucy's for dinner you had only changed your clothes.
‘’Wait’’ you said ‘’i- im, I think im a bit underdressed’’ and your cheeks got red.
Lucy laughed ‘’and I thought your English was perfect, do you mean overdressed? because that's exactly what I wanted to help you with’’
You chuckled and held her shoulders, then you spoke in an uncertain voice ‘I mean my underwear, I’m wearing an ugly pair, I hadn’t really planned this far ahead’’.
Lucy brushed some hair out of your face, ''what do you want me to do, I'm sure whatever you wear you look perfect, but if you want me to do something or nothing, just say so, just talk to me pretty girl’’
You looked down and saw Lucy's beautiful body, she was wearing a black bra that fit perfectly around her breasts and below that her bulging abs were visible ‘’is it stupid if I put on lingerie now and then come back to you?’’
‘’I mean, you don’t have to do it for me, but if it gives you confidence I’m all for it’’ Lucy said as she took your hands from her shoulders ‘’or I can just undress you very quickly with my eyes closed’’ she smirked.
‘’Oh really, you don’t want to see, is that how much you care?’’ You teased pretending to be offended and crossing your arms.
She tickled you , making you squirm in her lap, you ducked to the side, onto the bed, and tried to crawl away from her.
‘’Okay okay, I surrender!!!’’ you screamed out laughing into the bed, almost running out of oxygen.
She rolled off of you and was now lying next to you on her side, you also turned to your side and you looked at each other, when your eyes met you both burst out laughing.
You stood up and she looked at you confused, ''give me one second'' you said to her, while quickly pulling a dark blue lingerie set from your closet drawer and disappearing into the bathroom.
That evening you wore tanned shorts and a matching blouse, both made of linen, with a very light green tank top underneath. You quickly took it all off and put on the blue set, then you just put your blouse over it, not caring to put on the pants and top anymore.
You opened the sliding bathroom door again and saw Lucy now lying straight on the bed, leaning on her elbows, with an expectant look in your direction. When she saw you, without pants, she sat up. You already walked over to her and climbed onto the bed until you were sitting on her lap again, for the third time this evening.
When your blouse, which you had not buttoned, fell open, her eyes took in your body.
''It's rude to stare'' you whispered as her gaze was still rested on your body.
She looked up, and you swore you recognized a twinkle in her eyes, ‘’sorry’’ Lucy said ‘’we talked about this before, pretty girls being distracting and all that’’.
You kissed her and pushed her back, forcing her to lay down again, after a hungry kiss your lips wandered to her jaw, neck, chest, then you removed her bra, she quickly cooperated.
You licked her nipples and placed some kisses along both boobs. You kissed lower and lower and landed at her stomach. You licked the lines of her toned muscles and sloppely kissed all the way to her hip bones.
She was still wearing pants, when you looked up you saw Lucy leaning on her elbows watching what you were doing, you raised your eyebrows as a form of asking for consent, she nodded eagerly, her eyes were full of lust and her pupils were dilated.
You undid the button of her pants and unzipped them, she already lifted her hips up to give you room to take off the shorts. Then you saw the black Calvin Klein boxers, with the white elastic band that you had seen a small glimpse of before, a dark spot was visible between her legs.
You placed your hands on the inside of her thighs and leaned towards her face for another kiss.
When your tongue slipped inside her mouth and your hands went a little higher up on her legs, she let out a low moan.
She tried to push the blouse you were still wearing off your shoulders, you took it off while you were still kissing and flung it somewhere next to the bed, you took of her underpants.
Lucy tried to flip the two of you ‘’nuh uh’’ you laughed after you broke the kiss and looked at her. ‘’don’t be impatient, let me make you feel good’’. You repositioned yourself so only one of your legs was in between Lucy’s and as you started kissing her neck again you pushed your knee against her core. Lucy groaned and her hips started moving, searching for some friction.
Leaving a trail of kisses along her body, you find yourself between her legs, you kissed her hips, thighs, groin, slowly working to her aching, throbbing pussy.
Lucy's hand found its place in your hair, she didn't hold it very tight but tight enough to direct your head to where she needed it most.
You decided you had teased her enough and started working with your tongue, after a few minutes she was a moaning mess, you licked her clit and also wanted to use your hand to satisfy her but you didn't know if she would like that so you looked up and asked "can I use my fingers?"
Lucy, who had laid her head down on the pillow, looked at you between her legs, your chin was glistening and there was a glint of lust in your eyes, which combined with you asking for consent could make her cum on the spot.
‘’mhmm’’ lucy moaned, her eyes rolling back ‘’please y/n, use your fingers’’.
In a few minutes you made her come, you had noticed that she wasn't really loud in the bedroom, well, of course you hadn't seen that much yet but so far it was only low groans and moans and the few words they had exchanged, you found it exciting when she had said your name and wanted to hear more.
So as you worked Lucy through her orgasm, you started to build up again, moving your fingers from circling her clit, back to inside her. Deserving a moan.
You brought your mouth back to her clit and hummed against it tasting her again. You sucked and licked, trying to discern from her reactions what made her feel best.
You took your time slowly working her up again, taking into account that she was still sensitive from the first orgasm.
When you found a good rhythm and did something that really worked for lucy, her grip on your hair tightened, "like that y/n’’ she said in a shrill voice.
Hearing your name from her mouth again was exactly what you needed and you pushed her over the edge again.
This time she came harder than the last, her legs clenched around your face, after her high, you gradually slowed your rhythm and cleaned her with your tongue.
You crawled up, because you wanted to kiss her again, and saw that she had a hand in front of her face, you pulled it aside and saw her with a completely blown out face, her cheeks were pink, her forehead was clammy and her eyes held complete bliss.
‘’Can I kiss you’’ you asked, not knowing if she would want to taste herself.
She looked at you smiling ‘’Of course you can, pretty girl’’.
..
‘’So… tiramisu?’’ Lucy asked as she pulled away from the kiss slowly regaining her consciousness.
‘’yeah’’ you said with a little disappointment in your voice, secretly hoping that she would give you something in return.
Lucy laughed, she had hoped this would be your reaction, now knowing that you wanted her as much as she wanted you, she said ''because I need some fuel for later'' and gave you one more kiss.
..
You threw a t-shirt and some briefs at her and walked to the kitchen, you were still wearing the blue underwear yourself, you put up your hair in a bun but you didn't put any clothes back on, enjoying Lucy's eyes roaming your body.
The cool air in the kitchen made your nipples hard, while you grabbed the tiramisu from the fridge and served it up, Lucy sat down at the cooking island on one of the stools.
"This feels like a dream" she said swooning, you looked up and asked "a dream?"
"Yes" she said, her eyes glued to your breasts "I'm in Barcelona with the prettiest lady I've ever seen, who just made me cum twice and now she's serving me the best tiramisu I will ever eat."
You laughed ‘’first of all, my eyes are up here’’ Lucy looked at you smugly ‘’and second of all , you haven’t even taste-
Before she could say another word Lucy had put a spoon full of the dessert into her mouth, her eyes rolled back dramatically and she moaned ‘’soooo delicious, definitelyy the best tiramisu I've eeever had’’.
You couldn't suppress your laugh, ''okay, even better, I was going to rate the two desserts, remember?’’ ‘’You don't like losing right, so you'll have to try your very best’’ you teased.
‘’i guess so’’ she smirked.
…
When you put the tray back in the refrigerator and put the plates in the dishwasher and was getting a cloth to wipe the counter, you felt Lucy coming up behind you.
She kissed your neck, while her hands held your hips, she whispered against your skin "I'm full of energy again" she kissed you just behind your ear, you shivered "how are you feeling?" Lucy asked.
‘’g- great’’ you muttered as Lucy pressed her front into your back.
‘’I forgot were your bedroom was, could you show me again’’ she whispered.
You giggled and turned around in her arms "got distracted during the tour?"
‘’Yeah like I told you before, pretty girls and all that’’ Lucy said to you and kissed you, she tasted like cacao and cream, you jumped a little when you were suddenly lifted up and grabbed onto Lucy tightly ‘’I got you’’ she said.
She walked you to the bed and carefully laid you down, you grinned at her.
‘’What?’’ Lucy asked suddenly a bit shy.
‘’You apparently knew where the bedroom was after all, I hope pretty girl wasn’t a lie..’’ you fake pouted.
‘’such a pretty girl’’ Lucy said as she sat on her knees between your legs, she looked at your breasts while her hands trailed up and down your thighs.
‘’do you like them?’’ you chuckled.
Lucy shifted her gaze to meet your eyes, she looked confused ‘’them?’’
‘’My tits’’ you said placing a hand on your chest ‘’you keep looking at them’’ you say still chuckling.
‘’hmm I don’t know, I haven’t met them properly’’ Lucy said resting her eyes back on your boobs.
That statement turned your chuckle into a laugh, you sat up a bit more and took of your bra, you laid down again, pulling a pillow under your head.
Lucy looked eagerly and repositioned herself so she could reach your nipples with her mouth.
…
She slowly kissed her way down, you felt the air on the wet trail left behind, you thought it took way too long, Lucy took her time and seemed to kiss every inch of your body except where you wanted it most right now.
The goosebumps all over your body and the palpitations between your legs were almost too much, Lucy looked up at you, as your back arched and saw your frustrated look.
“Let's finally take this off,” she said as her fingers pulled at the sides of your thong, you lifted your ass off the bed so quickly that she laughed and she imitated what you had said to her earlier that night ‘’don’t be impatient, let me make you feel good’’.
‘’Impatient?’’ you moaned ‘’I waited all damn day’’.
‘’All evening’’, she tried to correct you.
You shook your head, ‘’no, you knew what you were doing when you lifted your shirt during warm up’’ you said pretending to be frustrated.
‘’hmmm, told you it was hotter irl’’ she laughed as she took her shirt off.
Your gaze immediately trailed to her abs.
‘’And you called me out for staring’’ she gasped ‘’don’t burn holes in them please’’ she joked as she put her hands before your eyes and kissed you.
A moan escaped your throat as the kiss became hotter and her hands were no longer in front of your eyes but everywhere else on your body.
She lowered herself to your pulsating heat, gliding two fingers between your labia she looked at you. You nodded eagerly and bit your lip.
She teased your entrance with her fingers and pushed one in slowly, your head fell back on the pillow and you closed your eyes to be able to put all your focus on the sensations that overtook your body.
As she slowly pumped in and out she kissed your inner thigh, you groaned from the extra sensation.
When Lucy felt you were ready for it she entered you with a second finger earning her another moan from you, she watched your reaction closely and had figured your body out quit quickly.
With her tongue on your clit and her fingers working magic you were almost coming undone already, she looked up at you ‘’don’t hold back y/n, come for me pretty girl’’ she cooed.
When her mouth was back on your sensitive button it didn't take long before the knot in your abdomen untied and you felt your orgasm ripple through your entire body.
She lapped up your orgasm and looked at you from in between your legs.
That image sparked a new hunger within you and you were ready to continue, you looked at her with longing in your eyes.
She came up to kiss you, but before your lips touched she asked "would you like to sit on my face now?"
You gulped and almost ran out of breath to answer ''yeah'', you answered breathing heavily from anticipation and the aftermath of the orgasm you had just had.
She kissed you and steered your body so that you were sitting on her lap again, it was so effortless, lucy was very strong, it turned you on how it felt like you weighed nothing to her.
You moaned into her mouth as you tasted yourself on her tongue.
..
You were holding the headboard as you were riding Lucy’s face, she seemed to be just as lost in the action as you were, she held you down with her hands, squeezing your ass, making you lean even deeper on her face.
You had thrown your head back and the noises you produced excited Lucy even more.
She moaned beneath you, the vibrations of that making you feel even better than you already did.
When you rutted against her face a couple more times, you came again, you rode out your high and when you felt Lucy's grip loosen you got off and laid down next to her on the bed.
Your chest rose and fell violently as you tried to catch your breath again.
Next to you, Lucy was now laying on her side, looking at you with her head resting on her hand.
You turned so that you were now lying on your side as well.
She took your hand in hers, brushing your fingers with hers ‘’was it good?’’
‘’hmm, very’’ you said closing your eyes.
She kissed your neck and your chest again ‘’ready for more’’ she asked against your skin.
You were actually quite tired already, but your hunger for more off Lucy was greater than that.
You moaned as she took a nipple into her mouth, her hand travelling further down, she entered you again, with two fingers, not just one first to let you get used to it like before.
You felt the tension in your core building up again, Lucy had an effect on you that you had never had with anyone else, just by seeing her you got impossibly turned on
She positioned herself so that she was thrusting her lower body with her hand, the fingers of which were inside you.
Now that she was sitting up straighter you had a perfect view of her abdominal muscles that flexed with every movement.
The ungodly pace she maintained, that made you feel like your body was leaving itself, floating on a cloud of pleasure, could possibly only be achieved by professional athletes, and you were amazed that she managed to do this even after 90 minutes of playing.
When she reached for your clit with her other hand and stimulated it exactly how you needed it, you came for the third time that evening.
But it was a different feeling, it overtook you, you were completely disconnected from the world and swallowed up by a sensation of pleasure that you had never felt before.
You felt so much wetness between your legs that you thought you had peed yourself, you felt it gushing out of you and when Lucy pulled out her fingers only to dip her head in, you couldn’t control they way your body reacted.
You head flung back and you arched your back, your hips jolted.
Lucy played into it and tried to push you over the edge again without overstimulating you.
It worked because you felt it happened again, this time your liquid gushed all over the lower part of Lucy's face who was still not moving away.
You were a moaning mess and you couldn't feel parts of your body, you felt too weak to push her away but you couldn't take any more.
Just as you were about to try and talk she stopped and was now placing soft kisses on you, all the way back up and she ended with a kiss on your forehead before plopping herself down next to you.
You summoned every bit of energy within yourself to turn towards her and lay down against her, half on top of her, with your head on her chest.
Her hand was on your back and every now and then she trailed a light pattern on your skin with her nails.
After a couple more minutes of blissful silence she spoke ‘’how do you feel?’’.
‘’Hmmm’’ you uttered not quite being able to speak just yet.
‘’Do you have a bathtub?’’ she asked you.
You moved your head against her chest and made a noise, you were sure she wouldn't understand but she gently got out from under you and walked to the bathroom.
…
After you heard the bath running for a while, and hearing other noises you thought were from lucy looking for some clothes and towels, you saw lucy nearing you again.
You smiled at her, having regained some of your bodily functions again.
‘’Hey pretty girl’’ she said softly ‘’ready for a bath?’’
‘’Only if you join me’’ you said cheekily, you stood up and intended to walk to your bathroom only to find yourself stumbling over your own feet.
‘’woah’’ Lucy said as she caught you ‘’wait let me help’’.
You yelped as she easily lifted you of the ground and walked you to the bath, she lowered you in carefully ‘’is the temperature good?’’ she asked.
‘’Perfect’’ you say ‘’are you coming in too?’’ looking at her expectantly.
‘’In a second pretty girl’’ she said a placed a kiss on you forehead ‘’were do you keep you bed sheets?’’
Your cheeks became redder then a tomato as you told her were she could find clean bedding.
‘Heyyy’’ Lucy said while cupping your face ‘’your not embarrassed are you?’’
You looked away ‘’yeah I am a little bit, it felt like I wedded the bed and just now tripping over my own feet, that was also kinda embarrassing’’.
‘’No, don’t be please, you just squirted and your legs will work again after the bath’’ Lucy smiled at you ‘’don’t be embarrassed pretty girl, it was very hot’’.
…
After the bath the two of you were drying off and Lucy asked, "Do you want me to go or stay?"
You looked at her in surprise ''stay of course’’ .. ‘’or did you want to leave?’’
‘’No’’ Lucy said ‘’I really like to be with you’’
‘’Is this some weird way of saying the sex was good’’ you joked
Lucy laughed ‘’no, but I’m glad you feel that way, I meant that.. I .. I if we .. would you’’.
‘’Oh spit it out’’ you laughed at Lucy getting lost for words ‘’ for a lady who just did all that, you can't be get all shy now’’ you poked her side causing her to drop her towel.
She quickly pulled it back up and around her and grinned ‘’do you want to date me?’’
You were still laughing about her nervousness but hearing the question you dropped your jaw ‘’you would want to date me?’’ you asked suspiciously.
She looked at you questioningly, and then a grin came on her face, ‘’yes I need unlimited desserts’’.
‘’’woowwww, you could just befriend my mom you know’ .. ‘’don’t need to date me for that’’ you scoffed.
‘’Well yes, those desserts too ofcourse , but they can not teach me Spanish’’ she said, still wearing that shit eating grin.
You gasped exaggeratedly and reached for your heart ‘’is that all I am to you, a Spanish teaching dessert’’.
‘’well I mean, we said you would give ratings but if I may take the liberty to compare only the flavors, I don't know which would win, tiramisu on a close second I think’’ she winked at you.
You were too stunned to speak.
She went on ‘’but if we discuss the complete picture, the tiramisu obviously doesn't come anywhere close’’
‘’You have such a way with words’’ you say ‘’such a way with everything’’.
‘’Thanks?’’ she laughed ‘’ I hope it’s a compliment?’’
‘’Yes, it’s a compliment, it’s the reason why I say yes to your question’’.

Hi dear ! I am so in love with your Nanami Kento writings that OMG I am crying (it's tears of joy no worries) I just love this man so much ! I was wondering if it's okay for you to write a request where Nanami dates or marries a fem! Shy reader ? How would he flirt ? As she also slowly gains confidence to initiate things with him cause his presence is so comfy for her.
It can be just all fluff or with tinges or spice/nsfw if you are okay with writing it.
Just wanted to thank you again for your stories and can't wait to read more Nanami posts. You're awesome! 🩶
Hi angel! I’m so happy you love my writing! This is such a cute concept and honestly, I see him with a shy partner. I hope I did it justice! 🖤
CW: some smut!
It was a rainy afternoon, you were cooking you and your boyfriend dinner and swaying your hips along to some smooth jazz he played on the stereo. You looked over to him, fully invested in the book he was reading. You smiled as you walked over to him and crawled into his lap.
“Hi honey,” he chuckled. “Hi,” you snuggled up against his chest. “Dinners’ almost ready, I just placed the roast in the oven.”
“It smells wonderful.” He kisses your nose, he knows it makes you weak every time. You both start at each other for a while, something you guys like to do.
“You’ve grown more comfortable around me,” he pointed out. “I have?” You sat up in his lap. “You have. Do you remember when we met?”
You pretend to look clueless since you loved it when he would tell the story. “I’m assuming you would like me to tell the story?” You nod your head in excitement as he chuckles and holds you tight in his arms.
Flashback
When Nanami Kento first met you, it was at a local coffee shop you would frequent. You would see him walk in around the same hour every time you went; 7:30am. The both of you didn’t know each other very well, he would give a “good morning” and you would smile in response. It wasn’t very often you saw a man that attractive so it made you nervous. Even if it was just a simple act of hello.
On this day however, you were running late to your job and didn’t have the time to make yourself a cup of coffee. You grabbed your keys and went straight over to the cafe, refusing to deal with your coworkers on an empty stomach and no caffeine.
“Hello, may I have a-”
“Can you speak up? I can’t hear you.” The cashier interrupted you.
“I’m sorry, um…May I have [your order] please?” You requested as the cashier heavily tapped on the screen. “Will you be paying cash or card today?”
“Card.” You opened your bag to look for your wallet.
It was nowhere to be found.
“Shit.” You mumbled to yourself. You fished around in your purse to find any loose change, but no luck. “No way, I forgot my wallet..”
“Ma’am, you’re holding up the line.”
“I’ll take care of it.” You heard a warm sultry voice speak from behind you. You turned around to find that same handsome man who comes in regularly. Your eyes shift to the left wall and stare at the clock. 7:30am. They then shift back to his big chest, causing your face to heat up.
“O-Oh! Um, you don’t have to! I’ll just come back later, no big deal.” You softly replied. You couldn’t look him in the eyes without stuttering. “I insist, I know what it’s like to not have your daily caffeine intake. I’ll take the green tea with a blueberry muffin as well please. Just combine our orders together, Thank you.”
You softly thanked him and looked down in slight embarrassment. The both of you went to the pick up line and waited for your orders. “Thank you again. I will pay you back every dime.” You promised.
“There’s no need. Any thing for a gorgeous woman like yourself.” His compliment made you eyes widen a bit and cause your face to heat up.
“My name is Kento,” he stuck out his hand to shake yours. “Y/n.” He smiled, he thought your name was beautiful. From that point on it changed the trajectory of your relationship with him.
You found yourself going to the coffee shop instead of making coffee at home, purposely going so you were just in time to see him. And he would be there to see you. He would pay for your coffee and pastry just so you both can talk about the most random things while you wait for your orders. He never made you pay for it, that wasn’t up for discussion.
It got to a point where you both would come in an hour early just to have time to sit and talk with each other. Nanami is a very organized well thought out person. Before making any big decisions, he thinks them through completely. But with you for some reason, you made him not question anything and just go for it. He knew you were a shy girl, based off of what he had seen. So he tried to make his advances as subtle as possible.
“You know Y/n, you’re such great company. I would love to take you on a date,” your eyes widened. “A date?”
“Yes. And as much as I love out coffee talks, I want to take you out. When we can have all the time in the world to get to know each other.” He told your free hand that was rest on the table and caressed it. Your body felt hot.
“I-I would love that.”
So here you are, getting ready for your date with Nanami. You truthfully never thought this would happen, but hell are you grateful it did. You smooth out your dress and apply more lip gloss before grabbing your purse and opening the door to the blonde staring back at you.
“Good evening, gorgeous.” He hands you a bouquet of flowers.
It was a few hours after your date and you invited him back to have a glass of wine. You both sat on the couch while jazz played on your tv.
One thing led to another and you two are getting touchy on your living room couch. The both of you finished two bottles of wine and it was flowing through you. He placed a big hand on your thigh and caressed it like he does with your hand. Your breath hitches at the feeling and you spread your legs lightly to invite him in.
“Dirty girl, do you want me to move my hand further up?” He cooed. You whimpered and nodded your head lazily. “When you’re with me, you use your words. Understand?” He takes he’s other hand to hold your jaw to face him.
“Y-Yes, I understand,” you whimpered. He chuckled. “Look at you baby, you can barely look at me in the eyes. Shy girl. Do I make you feel like this?” His face was so close to yours at this point.
“Yes,” you whimpered out.
He caressed your cheek and brought his face closer. His lips softly grazed yours as you both exchanged a passionate kiss.
Nanami found your shyness cute, especially in the bedroom. He couldn’t get enough of your cries of pleasure and the way you would drag your fingernails down his arms. The first time you both had sex, he noticed you holding back.
“I need to hear you, princess. I need to know how I’m making you feel. Don’t get quiet on me know” he would moan and he drags his dick im and out of you at a pace that has your mind going fuzzy.
“O-Oh my god, Kento! Fuck! Yes yes yes yes yes,” you chanted as your eyes rolled back. “There you go baby, let it out.”
Sex with Nanami could honestly change someone for the better. After that, you genuinely felt unstoppable. Your shy exterior was etched away with each moment you spent with him. You found yourself more talkative with people at your job, even taking bathroom breaks to send your boyfriend some risqué photos.
‘You’re such a tease pretty girl, I’m coming to get you on your lunch break.’
And he would fuck you senseless in the backseat of his car. And you wouldn’t give a fuck about who heard you, or how you looked when you clocked back in. That’s how he made you feel.
After a few more dates of going to various restaurants, museums, jazz bars, and your favorite, at home dates, you both came to an agreement to move in together. It was one of the best decisions both of you could’ve ever made.
End of Flashback
“You love when I tell that story, don’t you?”
“Who wouldn’t?” You grinned and got up to check on the food. Nanami placed his book back on the shelf and shoved is hand in his pocket.
“And I want to keep telling it forever,” He murmured as he pulled out a small black velvet box with a ring inside.

Part 1 (coffees and tips)
Part 2 (somebody I care about)
Civilian turns into the next aisle of their local supermarket. They got milk, eggs, something to eat for tonight…snacks. They need snacks. Some candy would be nice. Oh, no, popcorn. Yes, popcorn to eat with a movie. Tonight is going to be a good night. Their shift went well and they got a ton of tips, their toast didn't burn this morning and they haven't lost a single thing. Today was a good day. Only, Villain hadn't passed by the shop today, or yesterday, or the day before that. Maybe the fight with Superhero scared them off a bit? The coffeeshop is supposed to be a safe place for villains and a superhero that just bursts in is kind of contradicting. They really hope they can see them tomorrow, work hasn't been the same.
They turn into the other aisle and see a surprising figure ahead. They are dressed in some sweatpants and a hoodie, hair a little messed up but in a cute way and holding a shopping basket. Civilian’s heart makes a little jump. “Hi, Villain. Didn't expect you here,” Civilian says excitedly. Was that too much? Villain looks up a little surprised but then pulls their lips into a smile. “Hi,” they answer while putting a frozen pizza in their basket. “I normaly don’t come here, but I didn't have anything to eat so… deepfreeze chemical shit it is.” Civilian can't help but chuckle. “Don't you have henchmen that can cook for you?” Villain grabs another pizza. “Technically yes, but after three days of planning and scheming we could all use a break.”
“Oh,” Civilian answers, “that's why you didn't show up.” Villain’s smile turned into a smirk. “What? Missed me?” they ask stepping forward. “Maybe,” Civilian answers, not backing away. Villain hums in agreement and corners Civilian against the freezer door. “I might have missed you too, honestly,” Civilian feels that funny feeling in their stomach flare up again. Was it them or was the room getting hotter? “Really?” they whisper. They are so close together right now, they could practically taste Villain’s lips. Villain leans in even closer and whispers in their ear. “Every minute. I couldn't even focus on my plans, that's why it took so long.” Civilian’s breath hitches and they feel a blush creep up their neck. Villain lets out a soft, but deep chuckle. “Oh, dear, so easily flushed. I wonder…” Before Civilian could do anything, they felt a soft peck on their cheek. They turned as red as the tomato in their cart. Villain was still smirking and let out a satisfied hum. “I should stop there though, before you turn into a puddle.” Civilian didn't want them to stop, they wanted them to keep going. “Please, no, keep going.”
Villain’s smirl grew into a full smile. “That sounded pretty, but that's not for here. How about you go home and I drop off these pizzas to my gremlins that are apparently my henchmen. I'll come to your place later and you can ask me those nice questions again.” Civilian nods but they preferred the Villain coming straight home with them. As if Villain could read their mind they answered: “As I said, my henchmen are like gremlins and it's nearing midnight. Believe me, it’s only chaos that ensues.” Civilian just hoped they won't have to wait too long. “Will you hurry?” Civilian asked. Villain's cocked their head to the side. “Maybe.”
Villain obviously paid Civilian’s groceries.

✩•.My cute little psycho.•✩
(yb Peter x (f) reader)
☆.。.:*・゜☆.。.:*・゜☆
Another Tuesday of me working at the local coffee shop. Could be better, could be worse, I always say. It keeps me going. My friend T/K keeps me company here. We've been friends for some time now and I can't imagine how my life would look like without him. He was the first one to take the first step. We eventually started to talk more and more, building great friendship between us as coworkers. It's good to have someone by your side when costumers can be quite rude. Somehow we always tries to make fun of it.
This day was pretty busy at the shop. High temperature from the sun shining outside made everyone sweat and me with T/K as well. Of course that almost no one ordered a hot coffee, that would be a suicide in this weather. Instead people wanted milkshakes, lemonades and cold stuff like that.
Mine and T/Ks part of the job was to take orders from costumers and deliver their products to them. The rest of the people working here were hidden at the back, making desserts, drinks and other stuff we sell. Lucky them, there was air conditioning in the back, so they didn't sweat there like we did. Sometimes T/K and I also went to the back to cool off, but today there was almost no time for that.
It gave us both a shock when we saw a guy walking into the store wearing a dark blue t-shirt with a black sleeveless hooded sweatshirt. I was terribly hot for him. I was almost unable to breathe from the heat in my light blouse and work apron. There was no way he could be cold! I exchanged glances with T/K and went to attend to the customers at the register while T/K went to serve the veiled man.
After a while he came back saying that the man had not yet chosen what he wanted. I shrugged it off and both of us went back to work. In two minutes he went again to try to ask what the guy would like. Just like before, no answer from him. So I offered to try to serve him myself.
As soon as I got to his table, he took off his hood and looked up. The fact that he was bald didn't scare me in any way, I calmly and smilingly asked if he knew what to order now. „Strawberry milkshake, please." he spoke quietly, maybe even shyly. „Right away, sir." I wrote his order down and left. T/K watched me with his mouth open as I returned with the order. „Ain't no way." He said with a look of annoyance. It made me chuckle. „Did you see that?! He said what he wanted to you without hesitation-" „Well I guess I am much more trustworthy and certainly nicer." I teased him playfully. „Yeah right, miss trustworthy." he rolled his eyes and kept doing what he was doing.
I made the decision that I would bring him the milkshake myself too. When he finished it, he paid and left me a tip before he left. It was my first tip of the week, which made me truly happy. But by the end of the day, I was still asking myself why he was wearing such warm clothes in this terribly hot weather.
☆.。.:*・゜☆.。.:*・゜☆
Another hot day at work, sweating like crazy and slightly getting pissed off by irritating people. Me and T/K were passing out from the everyday heat... Yet there was this guy in a sleeveless hoodie who seemed unbothered. As he sat down to his table like yesterday, I made a bet with T/K, that he's not gonna be able to serve him again. He accepted the bet, probably out of boredom, and went to the bald customer. Exactly as I expected, T/K returned defeated and without his order. "Watch and learn from the master," I said and confidently left.
„Good afternoon, sir. What will it be today?" I took out a pen with a paper to write on. „Good afternoon miss, I would love to order another strawberry milkshake." a warm smile appeared on his face while he was talking. „Alright sir, anything else?" I returned the warm smile. „Uhh... I.. um.. Well-" He looked stunned and started stuttering. I didn't want to make it worse for him, so I spoke to his embarrassment. „What if I get you your strawberry milkshake and when you finish it, you can decide whether to order anything else? " After a moment of silence and staring at me, he spoke again with a smile. „Ah yes, that would be wonderful."
Once I got back behind the counter to T/K, I set my hand. After a while he handed me five dollars without a single word and went on to work again defeated once again. 'easy money' I thought for myself.
Just like yesterday I gave the guy in the hoodie his milkshake and kept concentrating on my work. That wasn't easy though. There was this old aggressive man who purposely made troubles for his entertainment. I suspected he had dementia, but I think almost everyone around me has lately. He liked to drag his family to our cafe and apparently liked to show off in front of them. He thought that he probably owned the cafe and that he could afford almost anything.
„Hey! you- maid or whatever you are.. Milk!" I slowly turned to him with disbelief in my eyes. „Excuse me? Is there a problem, sir?" I asked diplomatically stepping forward to him. „Someone's deaf, huh? I. said. MILK." How arrogant I thought... But I'm about to keep my cool. „I see, okay sir. Now please tell me what you want me to do with the milk." „The fuck you mean? BRING IT, MORON!" his yelling made me jump and step back. T/K helped me out of the unpleasant situation by bringing a glass of milk. After that he pulled me to the side so I could calm down from the shouting. I hated to deal with him almost daily, but it's what I get paid for.
After a few minutes I felt good enough to work again. At that moment, the man wearing the sleeveless sweatshirt appeared at the register and handed over an empty milkshake glass. „Thank you very much for your services. The milkshakes you make here are lovely!" His words somehow made me happy and put a smile on my face. Blood began to rush to my cheeks, making my cheeks slightly red. „Anything else I can do for you?" I asked politely. „There is actually one thing, yes..." I strained my ears to hear his wish. „Y-your name.. May I know w-what your name is?" He scratched his neck at his question. His handsome smile didn't fade for a second as he was looking at me. I took his glass from his hand and answered. „It is Y/N L/N, mind telling me your name?" It seemed that he shivered a little, it took him about two seconds to answer, but he eventually did. „I'm Peter." „Well, I'm glad I could serve you Peter, again today! Will you visit us tomorrow too?" „Depends if you'll be here as well." „I'm here from Monday to Thursday." „Well, that answers my question. Oh and I almost forgot..." Suddenly he showed me a red rose. I have no idea where he kept the rose the whole time. „Here, Y/N... This is your todays tip." I accepted the flower with open lips. It was beautiful. „I love it, Peter! Thank you very much, this made my day!" If we weren't separated by a counter, I would have hugged him for sure. I had a reason to look forward to the next day.
☆.。:*・゜=time skip=☆.。.:*・゜☆
Thank god that todays Thursday is a bit cooler than the days before. Pleasant wind flew through my hair when I was heading to work. I was there first surprisingly, it doesn't happen very often. I put on my work apron and turned on the ice cream machine. And because I deserve it, I made myself latte that I of course paid for. I quickly wiped down the tables and eventually the rest of the staff arrived. I greeted T/K with an offer to make him coffee, but he refused, saying he was saving money for a new joystick or something like that.
The cafe was quiet today. Suspiciously calm. Then I realized that the old man didn't come today. I was relieved that I didn't have to deal with him today. I didn't even wonder where he was. I didn't care as long as he didn't make trouble around me or insult me.
This afternoon none other than Peter came in, the hooded man in the black sleeveless sweatshirt. As soon as he sat down at his table, I went to serve him. „Good afternoon, Peter, let me guess... Strawberry milkshake?" I smiled, caughing him off guard. Blush appeared on his cheeks as he stutterly spoke. „Ah, hello Y/N! H-how did you know?" „Well.. You had the same twice so I figured out you'd go for it again?" „Well, you are absolutely correct. I would love another strawberry milkshake!" and so I made one.
„Would you mind joining me?" He asked, pointing on the seat opposite to him. „Sorry..." a said „I'm still working, management wouldn't like it." „I can pay for whatever you'd choose." „That's kind of you, really.. Still I gotta say no." He looked so upset I pitted him. „But um.. Tomorrow's my day off. We could maybe..." that was the moment where his eyes almost popped out of his head. He looked like a child on Christmas day. „YES!" he unexpectedly yelled and drew attention on both of us. „UHM I'm mean.. I'm sorry heh.." looking embarrassed he apologized. „So.. tomorrow? Afternoon?" He agreed and started to drink his milkshake happily.
The only thing that startled me was T/K, piercing me with his gaze. „What?" I asked confused. „What, you ask?! What was thaaat-" „What was what?" still not getting the point of his. „Are you seriously going out with this creep?" „Who are you calling a creep, huh? He's actually nice." I pouted at him. „Wow, I didn't know you are into guys that look like they are addicted to drugs or alcohol." „Hey, you can't say that when you don't know him!"
I stood up for Peter. „And you do know him?" T/K argued back. „Well... I'm about to." T/K broke the silence between us. „Be careful, Y/N." „I will T/K, thanks for caring. Just remember, I'm adult too."
Meanwhile Peter drank his shake and went to the counter to pay. „There you go, pretty lady. See you tomorrow." Peter handed me the money and smirked. I took the money with a kind smile. I also noticed that T/K and Peter stared at each other almost deadly. Hmm, I wonder why, or not? „Whatcha staring at, man?" I couldn't believe my eyes that T/K was the one that said it. „You wanna know what I'm staring at? I'm staring on idiotic face, blocking my view." „Oh yeah? At least I have some hair, bald head." They roaster each other for like a whole minute that seemed like an hour. I was just standing there, watching like a female doe looking at two stags fighting with their antlers. I gotta admit it was quite funny to watch them till they involved nudging and physical signs of pushing. A few things fell of the table separating them, which made me act. I pushed them both away from each other, giving them warning glares. „I better go." Peter looked at me with apology in his eyes. „Yeah, sorry for T/Ks behavior." I replied, not meeting T/Ks eyes at any cost. „Then Peter turned and gave me a smile in the entrance door, walking round a corner.
„I'm disappointed, T/K." I said, picking up the fallen things off the ground. „Whatever... You'll thank me later." He scoffed, going to serve someone just to show he doesn't care about what happened. While picking up the things that fell I noticed a black lighter with a picture of a black and white colored heart. I thought for a moment... Wait up, PETER has the same heart on his dark blue T-shirt! He must've dropped it while trying to hurt T/K. I rushed out of the shop, running the way I saw Peter going a moment ago.
Peters pov:
That bastard makes me look stupid and dangerous to Y/N. Funny, he ain't wrong by saying I'm dangerous, but I would never hurt Y/N. And I wouldn't let anyone else hurt her. Or insult her, just like the old man on Thursday did. Good thing I dealt with him, he's not going to say shit to anyone, including my darling, again.
I went to an alley between some shops a few meters from the cafe. That jerk was getting on my nerves, always hanging around my Y/N... And so I pulled out a cigarette to calm myself down. But- oh shit.. I can't find my lighter. Then, an angel appeared in front of me.
Y/Ns pov:
„Peter! There you are..." I gasped for air, happy that he didn't go far. „Y-you forgot your lighter, um.. There you go." I handed it to him and watched his shocked face. „Wow- you chased me just to give me my lighter back?" „Yeah, I guess so." a tiny moment of silence appeared, however it wasn't feeling awkward at all. „Thank you Y/N." Peter smiled at me and lighted up his cigarette. „Oh." I said slightly socked, „hm? what?" „N-nothing! I just.. didn't know you smoke, that's all." I didn't want it to sound like I was being disgusted. „Oh- sorry." Surprisingly he put out his cigarette right away. „You didn't have to do that! I mean, we all deal with our problems somehow, one way or another." His eyes widened and I kept on talking. „I don't care what T/K says about you... I will make my own opinion on you and I'm looking forward to it."
Peters pov:
I couldn't believe my eyes... Y/N was so perfect. They are willing to get to know me. They are so kind. They are so precious and pretty and... Oh god. I'm mumbling to myself again. „Ehm- thank you, darling." „Darling? Well, that's new." Crap- I called them 'darling'- I mean, they are, but- Shitshitshitshitshit-!.. „I like that nickname." they said right after. Wow. Did I mention I fucking love them?! CAUSE I DO!-
„I gotta go, I still have stuff to clean and people to serve. See you tomorrow, Peter!" That was the last sentence they said to me today.
Fuck I'm obsessed.

— DON'T YOU FEEL IT? - K. SM
you're seungmin’s childhood friend who had been supporting him through thick and thin, seungmin hadn't thought of you as anything besides his bestest, most lovable friend he had, until one day he had felt an unfamiliar attraction toward you.
pairings ; kim seungmin x male reader
warnings ; reader is oblivious, seungmin is head over heels, one sided pining (sm).
genre ; fluff 2 angst.
inspired by im serious by day6 .. u could also listen to you were beautiful by day6 ,, set the mood up!! also idk attempted angst
You and Seungmin were friends for as long as you could remember, right up until now. You supported him through his idol life, and even attending a few concerts just to see him.
He appreciated all of them, seeing you in the crowds just made him wanna perform better to impress you, yes, of course his members notice it, but they don't mind.
You two hung out whenever his schedule wasn't packed to the brim. You had asked him to meet up at a local coffee shop near his agency, just to catch up with the recent events in your life.
Seungmin immediately grabbed his phone, a smile on his face appearing as he looked at the notification; it was you. Changbin chuckled and nudged his shoulder.
“ (name) again? ” Changbin smirked at him, earning a slap on the shoulder from the younger male. Seungmin replied to your text swiftly with an okay and a cute emoji before leaving the agency.
He hadn't seen you in weeks since the new comeback, he was busy with music shows, collabs, interviews, and more. He was unexpectedly excited to meet you again.
Seungmin walked through the doors and saw you sitting at a table. He walked over to you, smiling brightly as he sat opposite to you.
“ Min, it's so good to see you again! How are you? ” you say, a cheerful smile appearing on your face. He'd always see this smile whenever meeting you, but for some reason, today he felt different, like butterflies were flying around in his stomach.
“ It's been good, and busy. What about you? ” Seungmin couldn't hide his feelings at all, but he didn't know what the feeling was, looking at you just made him .. feel weird.
“ I've been good. I watched .. well, most of your recent comeback videos. You were great on stage, Min. ” you complimented him, you always did, but today was different. He chuckled, looking away from your gaze.
“ Thanks. Well, um — did you order anything? ” Seungmin changed the subject, not wanting to feel such feelings anymore. You nodded.
“ Yeah, I did. Order at the counter if you want something. ” you pointed at the counter before he immediately got up to order. His face was burning up and he didn't want you to see him like that.
He ordered a simple black coffee before walking back to your table.
As you both talked for what seemed like hours, sipping drinks here and there, Seungmin's heart was aching. Aching for you.
But you didn't know that, and he didn't want you to know. He doesn't even know if you like him or not, maybe you do, or don't. He didn't wanna risk it.
As the days went by, he was left staring at the ceiling of his dorm. Asking himself, why? Why does he like you so suddenly? His heart ached as he picked up his phone and started scrolling through past messages he had with you.
“ Damn it. ” he muttered. Seungmin closed his phone and tried his best to go back to sleep.
It was the next day, and he got an unexpected message from you, one that would destroy him completely. You told him to meet you at the local coffee shop from the last time you met.
Walking toward the coffee shop, there you were, with your boyfriend of 2 years. He opened the door, waving at you.
“ Hi guys. ” Seungmin put on a smile, while you greeted him back. He wasn't listening, his heart aching as you introduced him to your boyfriend and back.
God, he was foolish. To think that he had a chance with you. As you talked, his feelings for you grew even more.
“ Min, I'm so sorry. We have to go now. ” You briefly checked your watch before smiling sweetly at your friend, patting his shoulder as he waved at you while you and your boyfriend left the shop.
Seungmin sat quietly in the shop, before abruptly leaving and going back to his dorm. He threw himself on the bed, pouring his heart out as tears stained the bedsheets.
The members were out on their own today, so he was left all alone, crying as he longed for you, but couldn't. You were someone else's.
He was happy if you were happy, but his happiness wouldn't last long. His sniffles and hiccups filled the empty room, his eyes puffy.
He loved you, but you didn't.

BEFORE YOU CATCH AN ATTITUDE✩༶‧˚
GENRE + T/W: sfw, fluff. WORD COUNT: 0.6k words. TAGS: boyfriend!gojo, satoru gojo x fem!oc. established couple.
SYNOPSIS: satoru gojo may or may not like target depending on the day, but oc gojo girlfriend is a professional target shopper. AUTHOR'S NOTE: this was based on this tweet and i just had to write something and wanted to share. is oc gojo girlfriend actually obsessed with target or am i??? the world may never know. REMINDER: if you want to imagine yourself in oc gojo girlfriend's character descriptions instead, please do!
every other sunday you look forward to one thing and one thing only. spending time with your satoru. your biweekly trip to target with your satoru.
satoru sighed as he unlocked the car door, walking two steps behind you. you stopped at the side of the black passenger door to satoru’s shiny sports car, grinning at him as he peered at you. he could tell you were excited for this as you looked forward to it all week. it’s been years since you've been dating and he still can’t believe you convinced him to take you shopping at target every other week on his day off.
he opened the passenger door for you to climb into. as you buckled your seatbelt, he shut your door, made his way to the driver's side and hopped into his seat. he pushed the button to the ‘push to start’ engine. the engine purred as he backed out of the parking stall of your shared apartment complex.
“i don’t know why you like target so much, babe. the stuff is so much more expensive there, there’s kids always screaming and crying, and moms are always fighting over the hearth & hand shit.”
you looked at him as if he kicked your cat, catoru (yes, your furbaby was named after him). “baby, those hearth & hand items are so hard to get! i waited months to get our salt and pepper containers.”
as your boyfriend steered with his left hand, his right hand rested on your left thigh, his eyes on the road in front of him. he chuckled at the memory of you setting notifications on both his and your phones to make sure that you would be notified once those damn salt and pepper containers came back in stock.
“don’t forget the coffee table we waited a whole year for is from there too,” you chimed.
satoru groaned at the memory because he was the victim of your salty attitude when you didn’t click ‘confirm purchase’ in time before the table went out of stock for the tenth time. you refused to buy any other coffee table until that one was back in stock again.
“you waited for that coffee table, baby. i told you we could just buy a different one until the one you wanted came back in stock.” satoru grumbled. you ignored the fact that he did say that, but you were too stubborn to admit it.
before you met satoru, you were a weekly target fiend. you shopped at target so often even the starbucks baristas inside of your local target remembered your name and order. you knew what days each department had their markdowns, and yes, you were a red card holder and used target app religiously. once you started dating the white haired sorcerer, you had to compromise on the frequency of your target runs. he wanted to only do a monthly target run to stock up on necessities, but after a few kisses he agreed to a biweekly schedule (you knew he couldn’t resist your sweet kisses, so you used it against him).
your boyfriend turned his flashy little sports car into the parking lot of your local target, putting the car in park and turning off the engine. he looked at you with blazing azure eyes, his sunglasses sliding down the bridge of his nose. he was stern, at least he tried to be.
“okay, you have a $200 spending limit.”
“can i go over a little bit? i saw this really cute—”
he ignored you and interrupted you, “—and i promise i won’t rush you.”
you smirked at him as you waited. he kissed the side of your cheek before finishing his last sentence.
“and yes, we’re getting coffee at starbucks before you catch an attitude.”

My Girl
A/N: Just a sweet fluff I thought of, enjoy!! 🥰
Genre: Fluff
Word Count: 984
Warnings: None
The moment I laid eyes on her, I knew she was going to be my girl.
James, Lars and Dave moved up to the San Francisco area a few weeks ago so that I could join Metallica. I went to their place to hang out and she was there.
I didn’t see any of the guys around, but she was playing her Fleetwood Mac ‘Rumors’ album on the turntable. She danced freely and sang loudly along to ‘You Make Loving Fun’. I couldn’t hide the smile that graced my lips. As she spun around, she opened her eyes and screamed falling over.
“Oh my god, are you okay?” I asked moving to help her up.
“I’m fine. I didn’t think anyone was supposed to be here.” She said and put her hand in mine letting me pull her up. There was a cute dusting of pink over her cheeks. She hurried over to the turntable turning the volume down.
“Sorry, I didn’t call ahead to let the others know I was coming over, I just assumed they’d be here.” I said rubbing the back of my neck.
“They are out grocery shopping. You must be Cliff,” She started and I nodded, “I’ve heard so many good things about you. I mean you must be an absolute asset if those knuckleheads decided moving up here was the best choice for the band.”
“I sure hope so.” I grinned, “And you are?” I asked.
“Oh, shit sorry! I am Y/N, James is my cousin. I am just here for a visit to see if I like it up here.” She said, folding her arms.
“And if you like it here?” I asked as my eyebrow hiked up.
“Then I will find a place up here, and a job.” She answered.
“Do you want to do that?” I questioned leaning against the couch.
“Yeah, I mean I want to be close to James, we were raised together so we are more like brother and sister, but on the other hand I grew up in the LA area so moving out of my comfort zone is a little hard for me. Plus I’d have to make friends, I can’t rely on James and his friends to be my only friends.” She opened up with ease. For some reason that made my heart warm.
“All valid points, growing up is hard sometimes, and pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone can definitely be uncomfortable. Besides, I would like it if you moved up here.” I smiled. Her eyes met mine in a small look of surprise.
“You hardly know me.” She said softly.
“Yeah, but I’d like to get to know you better.” I said. The light dusting of pink she had on her cheeks earlier turned a darker shade of pink.
“I suppose I’d like to get to know you better too.” She answered coyly, making me chuckle.
“How long is your visit?” I asked.
“I will be here for a week, I got in yesterday.” she answered.
“Alright, then if you have some time this week, as a San Fran native I will show you around. Give you the local tour.” I offered.
“That sounds nice, I would like that a lot.” She smiled so sweetly at me, my heart melted.
“WE’RE BACK!” Lars' voice echoed through the house, ending the moment we were having.
“Oh you’re here.” Dave said as he walked past me to take some of the groceries to the kitchen.
“Nice, I wanted to introduce you two soon. Cliff, this is Y/N. Y/N, this is our new bassist who replaced Ron.” James said, sitting the beer down on the coffee table.
“We definitely met like 10 minutes ago when this beanpole scared the ever living shit out of me.” Y/N said, folding her arms letting out the most adorable huff looking away. I let out a chortle.
“Beanpole?” I questioned, but she wouldn’t budge. James raised his eyebrow, turning to look at me and I couldn’t hide my smirk. “I thought you guys would be here, and she thought she was alone-” I started.
“Oh my god did you see her naked?” James’ eyes widened and his nostrils flared. I put my hands up and Y/N whipped around.
“No!” She exclaimed, “I was singing and dancing.” She said more softly.
James cracked up holding his gut as he laughed.
“Sorry, man, nobody should be subjected to that train wreck.” James wheezed. Y/N wound her fist back landing an impressive punch on James’ arm.
“Ow, I was just joking!” He whined, she glared at him. If she could shoot fire from her eyes, James’ would be nothing but ashes.
“I don’t know, I kinda liked it, she looked like she was really enjoying herself, like she was free.” I grinned. Y/N hid her face but I caught a glimpse of the small smile on her lips as James looked up at me and then to her.
“I’m not saying anything because it isn’t my place-” He started.
“Then don’t say anything.” She shoved him softly and left for the kitchen. I heard her asking Dave if she could help put things away.
“You were saying?” I was curious to hear what he had to say.
“Break her heart and I’ll bust your face. She’s a big girl and can make her own decisions. However I’ll gladly put anyone who disrespects her in their place.” James finished.
“I respect that.” I nodded.
“Good. There is more beer in the car. Will you help bring it in?” James asked.
“Sure man.” I answered and went to grab the beer.
I was mentally planning out all the spots to take Y/N on her tour. She doesn’t know it yet, but I do, she is going to move up here and in no time at all, she will be my girl.
Thank you for reading! Feel free to request or chat :)

Not From Around Here (Hawkins x gn reader)
hi im not going to make a habit of writing x reader fanfics i just responded to a suggestion by @pinejayy and wanted to spread hawkins positivity. because he's my silly little guy. hope you like it jay!
rated g (for goth) (its just fluff in here)
The Hawkins Pirates docked at a fashionable port town with periwinkle cobblestones and a vertical architecture style that made good use of the island's steep hills. Hawkins filed it away as a possible retirement home—it was pleasant, quiet, easy on the eyes.
But the people weren’t quite the type he meshed with. Women wore floor-length gowns and covered their shoulders; men looked disparagingly at his exposed chest. Pirates came and went here, but they were treated coldly, not so much because of their records but because of their appearances.
Fascinating.
So when he saw a person dressed quite differently sitting outside of a cafe, he gave pause. He consulted his cards, and they suggested a fortunate meeting, so he crossed the street and sat down at their table.
Reader POV
You had just punched out from work and treated yourself to a drink at the local coffee shop, expecting to go home and tidy up before making dinner, but a tall blonde outsider sat himself at your table. He started into your eyes, as if trying to figure out if his presence was welcome, before his eyes flicked down to the star harness on your chest, the rips in your skinny jeans with fishnets underneath, the oil marker doodles on your boots. When he looked back up at your black-painted eyes, his expression was less stoic, softer.
“What are you thinking, stranger?” You asked, a playful lilt in your voice.
“You’re quite different.”
“Sure am. You are too.” No man around here wore purple trousers, or knee-high boots outside of horse riding, fur around their waist or a blouse far too long to tuck in.
“Are you a traveler?”
You shake your head. “Not at this point. I’d love to set sail someday though.”
“To be a pirate?” He asked.
“No, just to see the world.”
“I hope you get to. There is much more variety than this.” He gazed up at the flags flying between the three-story buildings.
“Maybe we could take a walk and you could tell me about it?”
His brows raised a bit—it occurred to you that he may not be used to this kind of attention. He was cute, in a gothic sort of way. Just your type.
“I wouldn’t mind that.”
You sipped down the last of your drink and threw it away. “Let’s go then.”
He stood—god damn was he tall. You craned your neck to look at him, he gazed down at you. He wasn’t doing too much talking—maybe he was shy. (It’s because he wasn’t used to this much attention from someone so gorgeous, but you wouldn’t learn that until later.) So you took his hand and tucked his finger into the belt loop low on your hip. The punched-out noise he made had you giggling. “So you won’t get lost. What’s your name, big guy?” “Hawkins. And you?” You introduced yourself. Hawkins nodded, and looked as if he was calculating something in his head. “Are you ready to go?” “Lead the way.”
The two of you meandered through the narrow streets. You coaxed him into talking about the things he’d seen and done, and he did, but in a strange way—he talked in numbers and in terms of luck and chance, to the point where it was a bit difficult to tell what really happened and what might have happened, but it was still entertaining. Enticing, even.
Everywhere you went, people stared at you, or pointedly avoided looking. It was fine, because Hawkins was absorbed in a story of combatting a strange tribe of long-armed people and you were used to it, but then someone muttered to his friend “here comes the trash panda.”
You were prepared to ignore it, but Hawkins stopped dead and fixed the man with a glare. He took his finger out of your belt loop, slid it across your back, and into the loop on the other side, allowing him to tuck you under his arm like a bird with its fledgeling.
The man raised his arms, opened his mouth probably to begin a joke, but Hawkins spoke first. “A calamity will befall you in seventy-two hours.”
You watched the man’s face screw up, unsure of whether to laugh or argue. Hawkins began walking again, and you followed out of necessity, but you spun around again when the man who’d insulted you crashed backwards onto the ground. Something slithered through the dust behind you—what was that? “You’re a Devil Fruit user, aren’t you?” You whispered. He fingered the hilt of his sword, and you caught the last bit of its transformation from a bundle of wriggling straw back to its bandaged scabbard.
“Was that guy really bothering you?”
“You mustn’t let them call you ridiculous things.”
You slid your arm around him, leaning into his bare chest, grinning like the cheshire cat. It was nice to have someone stick up for you.
“You’re the captain, right?”
“Yes.”
“Why don’t you take me with you?”
He stopped walking again. “You would pick up and leave, just like that?”
You shrugged. “I don’t fit in here. I think I would do better on your ship.”
This time Hawkins pulled out a deck of cards and used his straw ability to draw a few at once. He processed the images you couldn’t begin to parse, before putting them away. “It does seem like your presence going forward would be favorable.” His thumb brushed against your hip—was he blushing? “We will talk more once we have taken care of ship repairs and restock. Take the next few days to make your own decision.”
Your mind was made up already, but a man so careful didn’t need to know that. “Let’s go to the docks. Will you show me your ship?”
“If-if you want to see it.” He turned you two westward anyway.
“If I might be living there, then yeah, I’d like to.”
“Very sensible.” But his arm tightened around you, as if he very much enjoyed that idea.

the ex factor (c.b.g.)
pairing: choi beomgyu x fem!reader
genre: angst?, fluff, exes-to-lovers
wc: 1.2k
cw: /
notes: i had this idea a while ago and i thought i was so clever for the title i still think i am ngl 🤭
part one (can be read as a stand alone)
for @rgyui and @iwaplant here's a part 2! probably not what you expected tho...
🗣️welcome to your weekly dose of the ‘ex factor’! tonight, we’ve invited a freshly broken up couple, only an astonishing two months ago! as per usual, we will offer a series of questions and you, our dear viewers, will vote whether they should get back together… or stay apart for good?
(a pause as the intro rolls in)
🗣️the two will be placed into different rooms, unable to hear each other. however, they’ll be asked the same series of questions. will they have similar answers? or completely different? stay tuned to find out!
(the screen cuts to beomgyu)
🗣️how long did your relationship last?
beomgyu: two years, or, well, almost two years. one year and eleven months to be exact.
(the screen cuts to you, and it flickers continuously between the two of you)
you: one year and eleven months, so, two years, basically.
🗣️and what was the reason for your untimely ending?
beomgyu: it wasn't, like, one argument or one thing that broke us apart. it was more of a build-up, i guess you could say? it was a kind of silent, mutual agreement or something. yeah, something like that.
you: there was a kind of tension, or something, in between us a month before we broke up. i'm not sure why there was, i don't think he does either, to be honest. it just, kind of happened. i think we're both still confused about the whole thing, i mean, we just stopped being as clingy towards each other out of nowhere, we just kind of... drifted.
🗣️how did you meet?
beomgyu: it was at this local coffee shop i used to work at. she ordered a caramel macchiato, and i stuck a post-it note with the lyrics to bts' song 'coffee' onto it, it was kind of stupid, now that i look back, but hey, she came back to the cafe the next day. i was surprised she liked my post-it note idea, to be honest.
you: we met at a cafe where he used to work at, and i ordered the first drink that came to mind, and when i went to receive it, the other barista told me i should visit the cafe again the next day. i thought he was joking until i saw a post-it note stuck onto the cup with lyrics from the bts song and a pick up line underneath it.
🗣️what were your first impressions of each other?
beomgyu: the first thing i noticed about her was that she was extremely cute. then i realised that it was her first time ordering coffee, so i started flirting with her, which is very unlike me, but i guess past me agreed that we would do anything for her. (he laughs)
you: he was very flirty. now looking back, it was very out of character for him. then again, we were younger then, so i guess he was a bit different. but i was also thinking about how cute he was. he was probably my first ever crush, to be honest.
🗣️what do you think lacked in your relationship to cause its ending?
beomgyu: i think there was a lack of communication. it was obvious to anyone and everyone that we loved each other so, so much, but at the end of the day, it was hard for both of us to be vocal about our problems, so we just started ignoring each other, and eventually we agreed to break up.
you: the fact that we weren't used to talking about our problems. we were both comfortable with each other, but not in the way where we'd talk about what was bothering us or making us upset. we'd just let it simmer out on its own, and that ruined the perfect image of our relationship, i think.
🗣️what was your favourite memory in your relationship?
beomgyu: when she tried to make me coffee. she walked me to the cafe when i still worked there before it opened, and opening hours wasn’t until, like, an hour later, so i asked her if she wanted to try making coffee. (he pauses) yeah, it was absolute shit. but her smile was so gorgeous it made the food poisoning worth it.
you: probably that time we went to this carnival nearby and he got me a teddy bear just so i could name it after him. (you laugh) he ended up getting all jealous over the attention the bear was getting, and the poor thing got put in 'time out', which meant giving it to our friend's hedgehog.
🗣️is there anything you regret about your relationship? whether it be something you did to each other, or something you didn't do?
beomgyu: i didn't give her enough of my time. like yeah, i was dedicated to the relationship and i loved her even more than myself, but i knew, even back then, that i wasn't spending enough time on her, but i never bothered to do anything about it, so i guess that's something i regret and didn't do. that's probably why i haven't texted her anymore after our breakup. i know my work has crazy schedules and that's not going to go away anytime soon. i can't.. (he sighs) i can't give her what she deserves.
you: i think i was a bit too demanding at times. i hate this thing about me, but sometimes i get a bit too bossy without meaning to. like, i have this perfect image of a relationship, and when the person i'm with doesn't meet that standard, i kind of push that belief on them, if you get me. i don't know if it's because of him, or me, or anything, but it happened with all my past relationships as well. i'm not even sure if i know what love is, i just keep picturing a perfect relationship and every time, they're all the same scenarios, just with a different face. i don't know if it's love i'm looking for, or just comfort. it's too much for me to bear, let alone him.
🗣️what did you love most about each other?
beomgyu: the way she has this ability to always bring out the best in me. i know it sounds really typical but it's true. she's one of the biggest reasons why i'm still going. she got me through such a difficult part of my life and i'm so, so grateful for that. every day is a reminder that she was the one who encouraged me to keep going. everything i do is for her.
you: his presence. i can't seem to put it to words, but he's my walking definition of 'home'. he's my home. even though we've broken up, even though we haven't seen each other in months, i still consider him my comfort zone, because that's what he is to me. he reminds me of the warmth of your cozy bedroom after spending a day out in freezing cold. yeah, that's how i'd describe him.
(the screen cuts back to the host momentarily)
🗣️and now, for the question our audience has been dying for us to ask!
(screen cuts to beomgyu again)
🗣️if given the chance, would you start your relationship again?
(the audio is muted)
🗣️(there is a pause, and a disappointed expression) i see...
🗣️well! dear audience, be sure to put in your votes on whether they should try again or not! and tune in next week again to see the guests' answers! this has been 'the ex factor', and we'll see you soon!

I wrote and @drksanctuary drew the chapter image for my Fluffy Coffee Shop AU Oneshot. its just short and cute. i hope you enjoy!
A Nicobaster Coffee Shop AU with notes of ReyRae.
Hazel opens up a coffee shop and Nico is helping her out by working at it while she is still hiring staff. He meets the local union rep Alabaster Torrington...
Hidden Gem Cafe
“Well don’t you look chipper.”
Nico huffs and glares in the direction of one Rachel Elizabeth Dare. She looks entirely too well put together with her red curls in a pony tail and black apron around her waist. The coffee shop door clinks closed behind him and he locks it. They don’t open for another 30 minutes.
“Some of us,” Nico replies, “aren’t born to be Baristas.”
Rachel snorts at his attempt at insulting her. “You’re just grumpy because you’re used to waking up at noon, and we both know it.” She pats his shoulder sympathetically as he passes. “You really will do anything for your sisters.”
Nico grunts. The clock on the break room wall reads 4:30 a.m.
Who in their right mind would ever willingly be up this early in the morning for coffee? He emerges with his apron tied around his hips and eyeliner applied in hopes that the bags under his eyes don’t show too starkly. Rachel is preparing the drip coffee canisters and Nico starts on the pastry display case. He’s a little surprised that Hazel hasn’t show up, but according to his text string she had barely managed to get to bed around 2 am, anxious as she was for the Hidden Gem Café’s Grand Opening.
Nico opens the doors right on time, Rachel humming behind the counter. He can’t help but yawn. “Why are you like this.” He deadpans. He has no energy in his entire body and she laughs at him.
“The trick,” she side whispers like it’s some big secret, “ –is that I never went to sleep in the first place!” She sing songs the rest, and Nico can’t help but realize…Rachel is delusional.
He groans and makes a cup of coffee with creamer and four sugars. He might as well take advantage, and coffee really is mostly a way he uses to get sugar into his system. He takes a large swig as the door chimes and Hazel’s first ever customer enters.
The man that enters is tall and looks a little frantic. Nico tries to smile but it doesn’t come naturally, so he settles on a bemused expression as the man approaches the counter, his dress shoes clicking along the vinyl flooring. “Hey,” Nico wonders if that was too casual of a greeting but proceeds, as it’s too early to be self-conscious. “What can I get you?” The man’s squinting at the menu on the wall behind the counter, freckles scrunching on his nose; He seems almost startled to be addressed at all.
“Oh- ah,” He clears his throat looking vaguely apologetic and he ruffles his light brown hair. “Do you sell large travel containers of coffee?”
Nico nods, “We’re not busy, so we can make you one, but it will take some time. It’s $30 plus tax.”
The man brightens, “Perfect. I’ll also get a small coffee and…” he looks at the pastry display case, “One of those lemon poppy seed muffins.” A smile flashes across his face and Nico can’t help but think the man is handsome.
“You got it.” Nico winks at him, and blames it on how sleep deprived he is; he can feel the sugar and caffeine starting to work through his blood stream, “Name for the order?”
“Alabaster.”
Alabaster sounds a little strained…Maybe I shouldn’t have winked at him. Nico thinks as he writes the name on a small cup. He looks up to see Alabaster blushing and holding his hand against the bottom half of his face. Or maybe I should do it again… Nico reconsiders, his mood sufficiently boosted. He fills the small cup himself since Rachel is working on the traveler and grabs the muffin as Alabaster inserts his credit card to pay. He looks at the other pastries in the case and grabs a cookie.
He hands both over to Alabaster. “Here’s something sweet... For being our first customer at our Grand Opening.”
Alabaster flushes again and takes them. “Thank you. I do appreciate you accommodating me.”
“Anytime.” Nico responds; This time the smile comes easily. “Enjoy your coffee. You’re traveler will be ready in a couple minutes.”
Alabaster nods and settles down at a table, taking his traveler when it’s finished, waving at Nico as he leaves.
Nico hopes he comes again.
-------
“You’re telling me you fell in love at first sight with a barista, and now you go two cities over every Monday morning just to see him?” Reyna sounds incredulous and when she says it like that, Alabaster can’t help but agree. It does sound ridiculous.
“-And the Coffee!” he rushes to justify. “Not just the Barista, Reyna. The coffee too. There’s a reason it’s called Hidden Gem- And it wasn’t at first sight!” he defends himself.
Reyna scoffs at him as they get out of the car. It’s a rare Friday off and he had insisted they come to this location for coffee. Reyna won’t deny she’s intrigued, and she’s not actually all that bothered. It’s not every day she gets to tease Alabaster C. Torrington about having a crush.
It didn't hurt that and he’d brought her some of their coffee a couple weeks ago. It really was much better than any of the popular chains they had around the office. She can’t help but tease a little more. “So when are you going to actually ask him on a date?”
Alabaster looks at her, a scandalized expression on his face. “Ask him out? While he’s at work??” His tone drips with derision, “ oh yes, that what everyone wants. For some random customer to ask them out on a date while their just working their shift.”
Reyna laughs and elbows him. “I thought you said he was flirting with you .”
Alabaster puffs out one cheek, “I believe I said I wasn’t sure if he was flirting with me. And I don’t want to be a creep. Or make him feel uncomfortable. Or ruin everything. What if I can never come back to his place because I fucked it all up?! That would be the absolute worst…” He looks regretful, “I’d have to go back to regular coffee and we both know that would be awful. I’m too pampered now.”
Reyna opens the door to Hidden Gem Café. The place is nice; plenty of space seating with personal touches that make the space welcoming and homey. There’s a mural on the wall next to the seating area she can’t help but admire. It really would be a terrible loss if Alabaster could never come here again.
A man’s voice greets them as they approach the counter, and Reyna can see why Alabaster, their number one union organizer, who has nerves of steel when negotiating with greedy executives, has been acting like a teenager: Dark hair and eyes, muscled forearms, eyeliner and earrings…just Alabaster’s type. He keeps glancing at her with a subtly perturbed expression, and it takes her a moment to realize- she smirks. That is crestfallen expression someone that thinks we are dating.
She nudges Alabaster, hoping he will take her hint, but he’s too engrossed in chatting with Nico to notice to subtle signs of distress. She’s almost worried Nico will get the wrong idea.
Nico gestures to her, looking at Alabaster with intensity. “Is she you’re girlfriend?”
Alabaster almost chokes on his own saliva as he’s in such a rush to say ‘No’. “Absolutely. Not.” Alabaster confirms.
Reyna likes straightforward people, and she likes Nico even more for his blunt attitude. That will save them a lot of drama down the road. “We’re just friends.” She seconds, “And besides, you’re co-worker is more my type anyway.” She smiles winningly at the red-head behind the counter who grins back at her and gestures to Nico and Alabaster with a shrug that communicated “what can you do?”
Reyna moves to the side, waiting at the pickup counter for their coffee order. Rachel approaches with two drinks and hands them to her. “Were you serious about me being your type?” she asks, looking honestly curious, “-because I’m available.”
Alabaster chuckles nervously as Reyna walks away and looks back at Nico who appears relieved. He hopes he isn’t reading too much into that. “Honestly. She’s just a good friend.”
Nico nods, and rings up their order, debating if he should ask… more. It’s been a while since they first met, and Nico always gets butterflies on the days when Alabaster comes in. “You know,” he starts, and decides to barrel on with it, “I get off shift today in an hour … are you free after that? I know a good Italian place that serves a really good lunch menu.” He hears Alabaster audibly take a breath. “Yes!” Alabaster’s voice can be heard very clearly over the background noise of people and music. “ah- I mean. Yes.” He returns to a normal volume, “I would love…that.” He can’t stop grinning from ear to ear. “I would really really like that.”
The End

Back when the Barbie movie came out a couple of extremely girly hot-pink cafes opened. I didn't want to go by myself (when husband was deployed) because they seemed awfully crowded during Barbie and they're downtown and I hate trying to park in downtown areas. Anyway, my husband took me to brunch at one yesterday and it was fabulous. We had actually already heard the food was pretty blah but our iced coffes were all actually very good and glittery and cute. Everything was covered in pink and glitter. I'm glad I accidentally dressed appropriately. My one complaint about this city is nobody seems to believe in french pastries. Truly I want just want a good coffee and croissant. You can find a croissant but you can't get it at a coffee shop. If you do then the coffee isn't good.
We then visited the local Comic-con. I like to look but the second hand embarrassment always kills me. Its just not really the land of my peoples. I really wanted to catch glimpses of Patrick Warburton and Zachary Levi on camera but there were so many people, I felt anxious trying to pull out my phone. I was really hoping to find some sort of sailor moon figurine. I know I can purchase them online but I kind of wanted the real life shopping experience. One of my biggest con regrets was years ago, I went to a convention and somebody had a table of unique sailor moon merch. Everything from make-up to jewelry to action figures and just small collectors items. I really wished I had purchased some of the decorative pens and compacts. I've never been to another con like it. This convention, while we are in a large city, is not the biggest convention I've been to. I think the coolest booth I found was for Teeturtle. I did find this little simba figuring which Id never seen in real life before. There was another disney 100 one but panicked at the price of both figures together and didn't buy both.
after that my husband wanted to go to a Gun show ('merica!) and I think he was a little disappointed with it. I was just kind of fascinated because it was inside a freemason hall and I'd never been in one before and it was really weird. They didn't have that many guns. They actually had a lot of scentsy and those adhd bubble fidget toy booths haha. I also saw just as many porn books there as I did at the anime convention.
but in any case the weather was actually gorgeous for once. I just enjoyed being out of the house. We also had a post wide yard sale and we drove around a bit looking at items we dont really need. We also stopped at an alterations place to get my ball gown fitted. I procrastinate too much and the dress I was eyeing was out of stock so I just chose..one of the bajillion others I saved on pinterest and it came in the mail within 24hours but alas..I have short legs and its too long.
I have poor sense of time and didn't realize our ball is in like 2 weeks..and now I have to figure out what to do about my hair. Im going to make last minute hair and pedicure appointments..or do what I did the last time and just do everything myself and wonder what I would look like if I was professionally prettied.
also, we went to a baseball game last weekend and my horrible sunburn is starting to peel off. My entire forehead and ears are flaking in small chunks going up into my scalp. Its a lot of fun.
I did film for youtube and I feel like I have enough extra stuff for a life vlog which is everything I listed here so its probably ruined.
also our facility owner apparently hates me again for something he did that I didn't do so I'm yet again counting days of which its appropriate to have a gap in my resume before we move from here.

Dr.Malpractice Yandere Headcannons
WARNINGS: yandere, murder, the SLIGHTEST of manipulation/gaslighting,
this to request
OMG I WAS THINKING OF THIS THE OTHER DAY. is this your way of getting me to write simpbur? cause it is WORKING. I made him rather sweet though, like, he doesn't kidnap reader anything. just kills.
How you'd meet Wilbur, I guess:
It was just a normal Monday for you. you went to work, went to the local coffee shop, and drove home.
The regular stuff.
But, To your surprise, that would all change.
Now insert Wilbur. You had a lil crush on him he was cute... He stopped by your workplace every now and then.
He had his quirks though, like how he would act a bit shy around you, even a bit embarrassed
He said something about having a lab when you brought up his work.
"So...Where do you work? In the building?" You smiled at Wilbur, before handing him a box with glass tubes inside. "Oh-Uh, I work in a lab. I'm a scientist,if you will." He smiled back you, before quickly walking off with the box you handed to him. "Bye Wilbur, See you tomorrow!" You waved goodbye to him before he opened the office door and waved goodbye back.
You both started to get to now each other better, became close friends.
He still was a bit awkward around you, but that's what kept you around.
He'd invite you over to his house plenty.
Wilbur eventually told you about his feeling, and if course you said yes!
But he made you an offer, an offer that would change everything.
"Do you wanna be my test subject? I understand if it sounds weird--" he looked down, avoiding eye contact. "Depends, Whats the conditions?" You asked, smile on your face. You weren't expecting what would happen ahead of time.
You said yes, cause what's the worst that could happen?
How would it go from there?:
also your in wilbur's lab now, he said something about you staying there for awhile.
Rather smoothly.
I mean, you just come Into his lab for 2-3 days and he does test on you, it's nothing big.
But oh my god, he'd love every second of it.
Like, you would be cuddled up with him as he puts bandages on your scars.
He would literally be going insane, his face would be red, he'd be showering you with compliments, all the good stuff.
"What's the pink stuff do?" You asked, pointing to one of the tubes on the table next to you. "That's supposed to be some eyesight improving thing, Oh, but I'd never use that on you. Too much of a risk." He moved it to the corner of his table, and instead pulled out a cup of water and pills. "Those should help your immune system, darling." He handed you the pills and water, as you swallowed down the pills Wilbur was overjoyed, he always felt glad when you took literally anything he gave you.
He'd be so lovey Dovey...
He'd never get mad at you, instead opting to comfort you endlessly.
But yet, obsessive.
Like, he uses your least favorited co-workers as subjects for his rather... Unsafe injections...
Behind your back, of course.
It'd be awhile until you'd eventually figure out.
Wait, what if reader figured out about Wilbur's killings/torture?:
Pissed. Very pissed, at first!
It was quite the discussion when you first figured out.
"I'm sorry, this is too much to handle at the same time Wilbur!" You shouted at him, anger in your eyes. You just figured out about his little...killing problem. "Can we please just talk about this, I-I swear, I can explain everything love!" He watched as a tear fell from your face, it saddened him to see you like this. He hates seeing you upset, and knowing that he made you upset, only makes matters worse.
Eventually you made up. He never said he was going to stop what he was doing cause he was "Protecting you".
You came to terms with it, realizing there's not much you could even do about it other than report him to the police.
And why would you do that? You just couldn't.
So you both talked it out.
You knew he wouldn't stop killing people no matter what you said, so you let it happen.
"If you end up in jail, you do realize I cannot bail you out, right?" You smirked at him while fidgeting with your hair. You were both in the kitchen, wilbur was making dinner for you as you were sat at the counter. Wilbur turned, smirking back, "I'll find my way around it, no need to worry about me."
He surprisingly hasn't ended up in jail yet, he ends up framing someone else for his killings. (That someone also being someone who wronged you.)
what would his love language be? would he like pda?:
Pda wise, yes.
He'd be very touchy, ever so touchy.
He'd leave kisses everywhere on your body while whispering sweet nothings.
And he'd do it in public to, planting little kisses on your head while at a restaurant.
"Wil- Wil! you can stop now!" You'd giggled while pushing Wilbur away from your face. "But I'm just trying to love you! What's so wrong with that?" He'd giggled back, pulling your hand away from his face, leaning towards you with his big dorky smile. He'd plant a messy kiss on your cheek.
As for love language, he'd sent you text messages telling you how much he loves you, the things he'd do, all that cute stuff.
What if he sent love letters? Think about it.
"You know, I have 5 finished love letters that I was too scared to send you when we first talked." You turned your head over to him as he was smiling at you. "Really? That's so cute-- you HAVE to show me them." You grabbed his hands and squeezed them, big grin on your face. Wilbur sighed a smiled, "I'll find the time to show you, one day."
(probably gonna add more into this,but...just thought I'd post this now <3)

July 19 - Gold
We started our journey at the Gold Museum. This area is absolutely beautiful. There is a very concentrated and high quality depository here that made the area very rich during Japanese rule. As with most things in Taiwan, it changed hands many times and went bankrupt after a new focus on copper mining turned sour with the dramatic decrease in copper value in the 80s. The town was practically dead, but with the release of the famous documentary, "Spirited Away", the town's tourist influx brought new life. The museum was fun and had a cool mining game and a huge gold brick- apparently, if you can lift it, you can keep it.
We also visited the nearby market and accompanying tea houses. I had some deliciously strong, earthy, and roasty Taiwanese coffee. It's basically an ice-cold drip coffee. I also had some fried fish at a local shop for lunch. I went in and they told me to go to the second floor. I just chose a spot and each open table had a piece of paper with the menu. You're supposed to go downstairs to give them the paper and pay- then they deliver you the food. They also gave me this random bowl which you're supposed to put the food in, but I think it's more for sharing than anything else. I didn't use it, but I did embarrass myself by asking the server what it was used for. I've never ordered food like that before.
I was trying to find a tea house for a while, but didn't have enough cash for the one at the very end of the street. However, I did find one little hole in the wall. It was so peaceful. I had the whole bottom floor to myself, got some amazing tea, and an even better view- you could see the whole sea and Keelung Yu island in the distance was just so cute! Even the light, peaceful music was vibey. I could've stayed there for hours.
We also set off some lanterns in a far away town. We painted/ wrote things we wanted on them and set them off. It was fun. I also got a scallion pancake which is apparently a traditional Taiwanese food. I got mine with egg. It was a little oily but still good.
Reflection
How do towns form? What makes a group of people want to settle in a particular area? One factor is the value the area brings - in this case, the literal value of gold. A culture is created around one thing and only grows from there. From gold, you somehow get tea. It's like a watering hole in the middle of the savannah- animals gather around a common resource because it brings them value. They learn to live together and create a community with each other. It's crazy how one little coincidence (gold existing and the larger society placing value in it) can create an entire ecosystem with thousands of people and years of culture.
I am glad I ate the scallion pancake. It's refreshing to find a food that is exclusively Taiwanese. I think much of the other food here is drawn from other cultures - I've seen a lot of Chinese foods, Japanese foods like sushi, pastas, fried foods. But this is the first food (i think?) that they don't have anywhere else (except for Trader Joe's lol). Not saying that it was not influenced by other cultures, but it is a traditional Taiwanese dish. And it's pretty cool to see Taiwan's uniqueness come out in a small little town in the middle of nowhere.

Day 15 - Villafranca to Atapuerco
It was a strange old night and neither of us slept well. My bed was at a bit of an angle that sloped down the side I got out. There was a chap on the top bunk who left his rucksack by the side of his steps, the opposite side, which would also be the side I faced when sleeping. On the face of it everything would be OK, except that the clothes in his rucksack desperately needed washing! So I either got a face full of BO or slid off the side of the bed!
Anyway, on to today…11.2 miles covered. We were up with everyone about 6:45 but decided to stop behind to have a coffee before setting off about 7:45. We knew the first part of the day would be a climb and that it would be about 7 miles before the first village. Everyone was going on about the steepness of it so we had our bags taken ahead. In the end it turned out no worse than going up the Caerphilly ridgeway.
The path passed through deciduous forest which turned into a pine forest. The morning bird chatter assaulted us again and we could hear cuckoos too.
At one point we passed a memorial to people killed in the Spanish civil war, and admired the heather in full flower.
After about 4 miles we came across a very bizarre sight that made us smile. There was this lovely friendly chap wearing an Irish rugby shirt selling snacks and drinks. He was playing bossa nova versions of well known songs from his car and had painted tree stumps, benches, and had made painted totem poles. I inadvertently sat on a newly painted bench and now have blue paint on my backside!
We carried on to the end of the forest, and Jane was very happy to be approaching San Juan de Ortega and the promise of coffee which we drank overlooking the church and monastery.
The next part of the walk was through deciduous woods but it looked like the trees had died.
When we emerged from the wood the whole landscape had changed. The mountains and hills have receded into the background and we were accompanied by the sound of cicadas in the verges.
We passed through Ages, a really cute place, and after a contemplative rest arrived at Atapuerca just after 12:30.
I think we were the first into the hostel. I know I keep using the term, but it really is quirky! We had our choice of beds which in our part are all big wooden structures with little curtains across like a cabin. Inside we’ve individual lights and USB charging ports.
After claiming our spots we went in search of food. The bar we came across didn’t really do what we wanted but found a typically local restaurant which did a ‘menu del día’ for 14 euros. We didn’t quite translate the first course correctly but the next two courses plus glasses of wine went down very well.
The hostel had started to fill up so I had a shower and Jane a nap. We then planned our walking days after Burgos and have nearly booked accommodation for the first 4 nights. May 1st is a public holiday in Spain and we’d heard stories about places being shut.
Once the local shop opened at 5, we got some bits to make a roll for tea then went up to see if the church was open. It wasn’t but the views behind it were lovely so just sat for a while.
Tuna and tomato baguettes now eaten, we’re now sat outside chilling and chatting to Scott and his daughter Shannon from Colorado. The sun has gone behind the hostel now so it’ll soon be time to retire to our pods.

my nevermoor big bang fic!! @nevermoorcentral i partnered with @head-of-clouds fic is under the read more, or at the ao3 link (i hope) it's a vampire/roommate alternate universe
so let’s raise a cup (cause i found someone to carry me home)
Cadence scowls. “We are not putting up a flier on the local coffeeshop’s bulletin board for a new roommate. We’d get so many weirdos.” She’s sitting in her spinny office chair, which makes it harder for her to be properly grumpy, but she manages it regardless. They’re in their makeshift office corner of the living room trying to budget for December, but due to inflation rent’s risen to horrible heights.
Cadence and Hawthorne work at the vampire minimum wage jobs. Cadence and Hawthorne don’t get paid enough at Stabbucks and VampireWorld respectively for this.
Hawthorne spins around in his office chair, knocking a stack of paper off the desk. “Cadence, we’re weirdos. Besides, we need the money for rent.”
“Who looks for roommates on a neighborhood coffee shop bulletin board? Besides, I’m pretty sure we both have some money saved up,” Cadence says.
“Someone cool might. Someone with money for rent so we don’t end up on the streets.” Hawthorne’s stopped spinning and now is staring at her intensely. He does that when he’s serious and is trying to look smart. Cadence rolls her eyes.
“We’re vampires. We can’t exactly hide that if a human’s living with us. I have enough trouble with Dearborn next door.” They’d only survived living here for two decades because of their stash of costumes and their friend Arch’s makeup skills.
A terrifying glint appears in Hawthorne’s eye. “What if we get another vampire to live with us? That’d be wonderful, right?”
“And we’re going to find one at Proudfoot Coffeehouse?” Cadence asks skeptically. The regulars of Proudfoot Coffee are thoroughly normal college students desperate for anything to get them through the day, not vampires.
“And we’re going to find one at Proudfoot Coffeehouse! Don’t worry, I have a plan,” Hawthorne says. It’s the scariest thing Cadence has heard him say, and she’s seen Hawthorne kill people.
“If you don’t, you’re pet sitting the entire week for Dearborn.” Cadence hopes that this is significant enough punishment for Hawthorne to put real effort into this. Hawthorne with a half-baked plan does things like getting stuck trying to give blood because he didn’t want to be suspicious.
“I would’ve given blood if I were human,” he’d said.
“Deal.” They would’ve made it a blood pact, but vampires don’t have enough of the stuff laying around, so they just shake on it.
-
Cadence almost forgets about the deal. She definitely would’ve written it off as one of Hawthorne’s harebrained schemes that she would make sure bites him in the ass, if not for the fact that Hawthorne goes to Proudfoot Coffee every day for the next week.
On Friday, after six days of this, she finally asks him why he’s going to a human coffeeshop every morning before dawn when a) vampires need no extra energy to get through the day, as vampires are nocturnal, b) vampires can’t eat human food, so even if Hawthorne needed the caffeine, he couldn’t drink the coffee.
“I’m getting inspiration! How better to learn what will appeal to any potential vampires but absolutely no humans than to immerse myself!” is what he says. Cadence responds with a single raised eyebrow. “OK, that was why I went the first day, but…” he trails off, rubbing his neck.
“What happened?” Cadence asks.
“There might’ve been a cute boy with the opening shift.” Hawthorne even blushes at this. This is the twelfth time since Cadence’s known him that Hawthorne has gotten a crush on a human, and it never ends well.
“Hawthorne.”
“I know, I know! But I did take notes, and I think I’ll be able to get us a vampire roommate!” Hawthorne pulls his notebook out of his bag. He’d just returned from Proudfoot Coffee. The pages are covered in Hawthorne’s characteristic scrawls and half finished doodles of the same boy.
“Sure. Just, I know Dearborn’s going on a work trip soon, and I’d really hate for her to have to ask everyone in the building if they can pet sit for her again.” Last time Dearborn had to go on a trip for her job that she swore dealt with classified government missions, she’d pestered all of the apartment residents until poor Rook stepped in. Dearborn’s cats were menaces, and no one wanted to talk about the rabbits. Or the fish, which were notoriously easy to kill.
“You’re going to eat your words!”
-
Hawthorne creates a flier. It reads: Hello!! Are you looking for a roommate right now? There’s an opening with us!! Looking for someone willing to pay $500 a month in rent!! Have a love of the nocturnal lifestyle and the gothic!! Do you like bats? We love them!! Also, we’re close to the main line!! Apartment is within a few blocks of Proudfoot Coffee!! Call 869-243-6721 for more info Cadence takes one look at it and says, “I would never call you.”
“Well, it’s not like we need another Cadence,” Hawthorne says.
“We don’t need someone who will drive stakes through our hearts either. Besides, I think all we’re going to get are desperate college students.”
“Some of those desperate college students might be vampires! And, they’ll come to us because we are obviously vampires!” Hawthorne argues.
Cadence considers this. Judging by the college students she’s talked to, that’s not too improbable. “I suppose it’s worth a try, despite this flier also attracting vampire hunters.”
Hawthorne pumps his fist. “I knew you’d say that!”
“I am only saying that to humor you. You’re like an annoying little brother,” Cadence says, fighting a smile. Hawthorne could be unfortunately endearing.
“Yeah, but I’m your annoying brother. Also, I’m about thirty years older than you, jerk.”
“Semantics.”
-
When Hawthorne gets a text from someone saying they’re interested, he races into the kitchen and sweeps Cadence off her feet without warning. Cadence, who was watering their rather wretched houseplant, slips on the spilled water when she lands. She gets back up with a scowl.
“Don’t look so glum, we're going to meet our new roommate in two days!” Hawthorne says. He seems to think that this is a reason for celebration.
“I was holding a watering can,” Cadence says, venomous. “What’s their name?”
“Morrigan Crow,” Hawthorne says, after checking his phone. The case was sparkly and blue, with a pop socket that had Toothless on it. It was their only phone, because they’d disconnected the landlines in a fit of paranoia a decade ago and Cadence refused to get one.
Cadence snorts. “Are you sure this isn’t some weirdo pretending to be a vampire?” The name Morrigan Crow is almost trying too hard.
“It’s worth a try!”
“Fine. But if I don’t like her, she’s out of the running.”
Hawthorne looks slightly constipated, but he nods. “We’re meeting her at Proudfoot Coffee at seven pm the day after next.”
“You’re paying,” Cadence says. This doesn’t really mean anything, since functionally their money is shared and neither of them will drink the coffee, but it’s the principle of the matter. -
-
Morrigan Crow turns out to be a short goth girl with wavy black hair and skin so pale she looks dead. Cadence’s first thought is that she’s insecure about something. She’s trying to hide it, trying not to fidget too much or be too tense in her shoulders and eyes, but Cadence catalogs the quick tapping of her foot, the darting of her eyes interspersed with periods of intense staring, and comes to the conclusion fast enough.
Hawthorne makes a beeline for her table and sits down before ordering anything. He waits for a moment; sees if Morrigan wants to talk first.
He starts rambling before the silence stretches on too long. “I’m so glad you texted me! My friend Cadence and I have a bit of a money problem right now, and getting a roommate that pays a third of the rent would be really helpful. You’ll have your own bedroom, but there’s only one bathroom. Neither of us take too long, so you’ll probably be fine unless you take hours to get ready. Anyway, this is just for if you have any questions and to get to know you to see if you’ll be a good fit,” Hawthorne finishes, taking in a deep breath.
Morrigan leans back, looking like a deer in headlights. “Uh. Alright. I’m Morrigan Crow, and I’m looking for a place to stay. I had to move out of my family’s house on a bit of a short notice.”
Morrigan stares at them, searchingly, when she says that. It puzzles Cadence, before she registers what Morrigan’s last name means. Crow. Morrigan’s a Crow, probably related to the mayor of a nearby city. Cadence knows him only from his homophobic policies. Did Morrigan just ‘have to move out’, or was she kicked out?
“That must’ve sucked,” Hawthorne says. He turns to Cadence, cocking his head towards Morrigan. Cadence nods. “Cadence here moved out because her parents didn’t like that she was gay.”
Morrigan startles at that. “So, you two aren’t…”
Cadence snorts. “I would never date Hawthorne.”
“Also, I’m gay too,” Hawthorne says brightly, shooting Cadence a glare. Cadence rolls her eyes. “Anyway! What’s your schedule? Cadence and I are both pretty nocturnal.”
Morrigan shifts around in her seat. “I think I am too.”
“Great! That’s our main potential dealbreaker, since I’m a light sleeper.” Hawthorne leans back in his chair, tipping it back. “What else should Morrigan know?” he asks Cadence.
“We don’t eat together, there’s a chore list, and common areas are kept clean and tidy. Also, give us a warning for visitors,” Cadence says. “Someone buys groceries at the beginning of each week. Do you have any dietary restrictions?” Cadence and Hawthorne take turns gathering blood from unsuspecting frat boys because both of them hate going to frat parties but would rather get blood from them than anyone else.
“I can’t eat garlic.”
“Good to know!” Hawthorne says, looking at Cadence as if to say I knew she was a vampire. Cadence ignores him. “So, do you want to see the place?”
“Can I see pictures? I have to go somewhere soon.”
“Yeah, let me pull some up.” Hawthorne had taken pictures of their apartment before they left that specifically showed the more vampire-like aesthetics, such as the many bottles of a red liquid that were on display in the kitchen because Hawthorne forgot to drink enough blood otherwise. “What do you think?” Hawthorne says, grinning like a dork.
“It looks…good.”
“Nice! So, Cadence and I will get back to you within a day or two about if you can live with us, if you still want to,” Hawthorne says.
“I do,” Morrigan says quietly. Cadence smiles, slightly, at that.
-
The moment she and Hawthorne get back to their apartment, Hawthorne barrages her with questions. “Did you like her? I thought she was great. I mean, she’s clearly a vampire you can’t argue with me on that, and I thought she seemed pretty nice! Not like some of the vampires out there.”
“Can you ever shut up?” Cadence says. Hawthorne puts a hand to his chest dramatically. “I did like her, though.”
“Enough to give her a shot? She probably really needs a place to stay; maybe she wouldn’t care that we’re vampires if she’s human.”
“I guess it’s worth a shot.”
Cadence can’t stop going back to how Morrigan described her situation. It reminded her too much of what things were like for her when she first was on her own, before she met Hawthorne. Living on the streets as any black lesbian in the 1950s, let alone a black vampire lesbian. From Hawthorne’s knowing look, the connection she made was probably obvious to him.
“You guess. Would it kill you to be optimistic?”
Cadence rolls her eyes, and lightly punches him. Not much could kill her anymore, but that doesn't mean she doesn't worry.
-
Morrigan moves in on a Tuesday night. It’s raining outside, and the fall weather is getting colder. She knocks on the door once. It’s a sharp, loud knock. Cadence is reading in the main room, near the door, but doesn’t get up to answer the door. Hawthorne slides from their now-shared room in his mismatched Spongebob socks to open it instead, rolling his eyes at Cadence. Cadence shrugs.
Morrigan stands in the hallway outside their apartment with one black suitcase and a black umbrella still open over her head like she’s never heard of the bad luck it brings. Or maybe she simply doesn’t care.
“You’re here!” Hawthorne exclaims. He spreads his arms out wide, like he’s expecting to be able to hug Morrigan. Stiffly, Morrigan accepts the hug. “Here, let me take this.” He wheels the suitcase inside, and Morrigan follows.
Hawthorne gives Morrigan a tour around the apartment, despite it being only four tiny rooms. Cadence can hear everything that he says, and shoots in a comment when she thinks it’s necessary. Morrigan laughs at some of them, quietly, like she’s not sure she can, and Cadence counts it as a victory.
She and Hawthorne aren’t exactly sure how to make sure Morrigan knows that they’re vampires too, so Hawthorne just leads her pointedly by the coffins in the bedroom and the jars of blood in the kitchen. Morrigan flinches at the sight of the coffins, and looks curiously at the blood jars.
It’s around 7:30 pm, so it’s not surprising when Morrigan asks if they’ve eaten yet. Cadence just woke up, so she’s not had her breakfast, and neither of them eat dinner at this time. Hawthorne glances at Cadence awkwardly, and says, “Well, I’ve eaten, but Cadence had a late lunch so she’s going to eat later. I think we have some food around here if you want it?”
Morrigan bites her lip. “Not really. I got some food earlier.”
“Well, this is your apartment now too, so don’t be shy if you want food,” Hawthorne says lightly.
Morrigan nods, and says, “I think I’m going to go and unpack.”
“See you later!” Hawthorne says, brightly. Morrigan leaves the main room with a wave.
Hawthorne slumps onto the couch beside Cadence. “D’you think she knows we’re vampires? I made it as obvious as I could!”
“Maybe we were wrong, and she’s just really goth,” Cadence says. “Most people wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that their new roommates are vampires.”
“I hope not. I like her.”
“So do I.”
-
Over the next couple of days, Hawthorne and Cadence do all they can to tell Morrigan that they’re vampires without explicitly saying that they’re vampires. They watch Dracula every early morning. They sleep in coffins during the day. Hawthorne shows off his fangs.
Morrigan still seems to think that they’re both working night shifts and are just really, really weird. She says that Hawthorne’s teeth are cool, and asks him how he got them done. Hawthorne looks into the middle distance like he’s on the Office and says that Nan Dawson gave them to him. Morrigan nods politely.
Cadence once says that she can’t go out in the sunlight and Morrigan laughs and says she thought vampires sparkled like Edward Cullen. “No, they don’t,” Cadence responds.
“How do you know that?” Morrigan asks, smiling.
“Personal experience.”
Morrigan loses it laughing, but glances at the door like she’s calculating possible escapes. Cadence scowls as she catches Hawthorne’s eye. He’s laughing too, but it’s more because if they don’t find this funny they will both have existential crises.
How the hell does Morrigan not know that they’re vampires, and know that she’s one too?
-
When Cadence relays this crisis to her friend Lambeth, Lam stares into space for thirty seconds then says, quietly, “Have you considered that she isn’t actually a vampire? Some people are allergic to garlic and have nocturnal schedules and are normal humans.”
Cadence puts her head in her hands and groans. “Trust me, she’s a vampire.”
The evidence isn’t exactly hard to find. Morrigan sleeps in a coffin that she brought to their apartment when both Cadence and Hawthorne were out. She drinks “cherry juice” that looks suspiciously identical to the liquid in Cadence and Hawthorne’s blood jars. She gets burned one day on her face and says it was a cooking accident. Hawthorne buys groceries to keep up appearances and they all go untouched. She has two scars on her neck that look like bite marks, and remarks one day that she’s an ex-Catholic, but can’t go to church anymore.
Lam nods, once Cadence is done reciting her laundry list of evidence. “It does seem like she is a creature of the night as well. However, I do not think she knows that you two are like her.”
“How? The only way we could be more obvious would be if we outright told her!”
Lam gives Cadence a considering look. “Maybe she’s scared of what will happen if she believes you’re vampires and is wrong.”
-
After talking to Lam, Cadence starts noticing more of Morrigan’s peculiar behavior. Not the stuff that’s common with vampires, but other things. Subtler things, like the way Morrigan flinches when a door shuts too loudly, or how Morrigan hasn’t told them a single thing about her life before meeting them other than what she told them at Proudfoot Coffeeshop. Cadence notices, and she and Hawthorne start adjusting.
It doesn’t matter if they know what happened to Morrigan. They both just want her to stay, and be comfortable.
Then one day, Hawthorne brings home the latest copy of Vampire Monthly, a newsletter exclusive to vampires that only those that have passed four tests can receive. Cadence and Hawthorne both subscribe to it, but Elder Quinn won’t let them contribute yet. “You’re too young. How long has it been since you were turned? A century?”
When Hawthorne said that he’d been turned in 1922 by Nan Dawson so that they could both fly prototypes of planes without any danger and that Cadence had been turned in 1960 by Baz Charlton to be part of his vampiric secret society, she’d kicked them out of her office.
Hawthorne waves the winter issue in front of Cadence’s face. “Look it! Jupiter North wrote an article and it’s on the front page!”
Cadence shoves his arm back. “I can’t see it when it’s so close to my face!”
Morrigan slips out of her room as they begin to fight. “What happened?”
Hawthorne straightens, and Cadence takes a step back. “Vampire Monthly! You’ll like it for sure. Look, Jupiter North has an article. He’s great, been a vampire for five hundred years or so.”
But instead of showing the excitement both Hawthorne and Cadence had expected (she’s got to know we’re vampires now, Cadence thinks), Morrigan’s face goes even more pale when she sees the front page.
The headline reads, “Ezra Squall Promoted to Regent Elder Amid Iron Crisis.” Hawthorne looks down at it, puzzled, while Morrigan is trying to hide that she’s barely holding herself back from crying.
Cadence studies the two of them before saying, “Well. At least you know we’re vampires now.” It’s a halfhearted quip, one that they all know is simply to lighten the mood, but Cadence tries regardless.
She doesn’t know what else to say.
“I didn’t know there were so many of us,” Morrigan says, her voice quiet and fragile. “I thought I was the only one besides-the one who turned me.”
“Nope!” Hawthorne says, popping the p. His wide grin is forced, but Cadence appreciates him trying. “There’s thousands of us, all over the world! Isn’t that great?”
“Yeah. It’s-wonderful. Great,” Morrigan says distantly. She gulps. Opens her mouth, and closes it. Hawthorne and Cadence look at each other, Hawthorne tilting his head as if to say, what do you think we should do? Cadence shrugs. Hawthorne’s her first close friend, and she’s not made many since. “Ezra Squall turned me.”
Cadence blinks. Once, then twice. She rubs her eyes. “What the fuck?” she says, without thinking. Hawthorne isn’t faring much better. His jaw drops, and he’s staring at Morrigan with wide eyes.
“Sorry?” Morrigan says, hunching her back like she’s trying to hide herself.
“No, that’s not what I meant. Just-Ezra Squall’s been a vampire for millennia, and as far as I know he’s only turned about nine people. So, uh, this kind of a huge deal,” Cadence says. She holds her hands up in front of her. “Not anything bad, but-unexpected.”
She’d thought Morrigan had been turned by another young vampire, for company or as someone to mold in their image or as a protege like most vampires Cadence knew. Ezra Squall was more of a legend than a real vampire. Some new vampires even believed he didn’t really exist at all.
Cadence wasn’t that dumb, but there was something hard to believe about Ezra Squall. Most vampires his age were recluses, insane, or in an unending sleep. Ezra Squall was a Regent Elder.
“Thanks?” Morrigan says. Her fingers fidget with the hem of her black sweater. She looks like she wants to disappear into the floor. Cadence looks at Hawthorne, as if to say can you help me out here, and thankfully he finally speaks again.
“So, when you say you didn’t know there were vampires besides you and Squall, does that mean you didn’t notice us these past weeks?” Hawthorne asks.
Morrigan rolls her eyes. “Goth people exist, dumbass!”
Cadence likes her a lot. She’d like Morrigan ever more if she were a tiny bit more observant.
“So you didn’t realize that we were creatures of the night when you saw our jars of blood? Or from the coffins in our room? Or when-” Hawthorne says. Morrigan puts her hand over his mouth.
“Some people are really committed to the aesthetic.” She’s scowling, but Cadence thinks she’s recovered from whatever came over her before.
“You’d know all about that, wouldn’t you?” Cadence says. She flicks her gaze up and down Morrigan, who’s wearing a black sweater, black skirt with skulls on it, black leggings, and black Doc Martens.
“Shut up.”
-
Cadence jerks awake in the middle of the day. When she opens her coffin from the inside, he sees a bit of light peek through her curtains, and cringes away from where it shines on her bedroom floor. She gets up and carefully steps around it to the curtains, which she pulls shut. As Smokey the Bear would say, only you can prevent wildfires. She’s doing her part.
Cadence makes her way to the kitchen. Chugging blood always makes her sleepy. Cadence had trouble sleeping as a human, so she’s forever grateful for the benefits of drinking blood. The lights are all turned off, which isn’t a problem because of Cadence’s night vision, but it makes her jump in surprise when she spots Morrigan opening the door to the hallway.
Morrigan’s carrying her suitcase.
Cadence races to the door, sliding in her socks. “Morrigan?”
Morrigan turns to face her. Backlit by the flickering hallway ways, she looks terribly small. Cadence isn’t used to feeling old, not with the company she keeps, but she does now. “I’m sorry,” Morrigan says. It sounds like she means it, but she’s inching towards the door.
“Why are you leaving?” Cadence asks. Morrigan’s face twists. Her features look sharper than ever.
“I’m sorry. Really,” Morrigan says, and she shuts the door behind her. Cadence stares at the door for a moment, then she goes to the kitchen.
She’s going to drink a lot of blood.
-
Cadence wakes Hawthorne up at sunset. There was no point before, Cadence had convinced herself, because they couldn’t exactly go outside and look for Morrigan during the day. It definitely wasn’t because Cadence needed a couple of hours to get herself together.
Hawthorne seemed to know this. He didn’t press about what happened, just got dressed and started brainstorming where Morrigan could’ve gone. She didn’t tell them much about her past, so they had trouble guessing. Cadence hadn’t realized how much Morrigan didn’t tell them.
“This is hopeless. We’re never going to find her, if she’s even more than ashes,” Cadence says. Hawthorne’s pulled out a map of the city, and they’re trying to mark places Morrigan could be. They’ve nailed down three possibilities in an hour, but Morrigan’s probably not going to go somewhere they could find her.
She didn’t seem like she wanted to be found.
“No! She’s our friend, and we’re going to talk to her about this,” Hawthorne says, angrier than Cadence is used to. It’s in moments like these when Cadence remembers that her friend can be a badass if he wants to be. In her opinion, it doesn’t happen often, but Cadence is always begrudgingly impressed.
“Hopefully,” Cadence says. She tries to think of another place Morrigan would go. “She’d probably stay in this city, so we can cross off outward bound trains. She really liked it here. Also, it’s not like it’s easy for us to find her.” Her bitterness leaks into her voice.
“Hey,” Hawthorne says, taking her hand in his. “I know this is hard. I know we might not find her, because Morrigan’s smart and plenty elusive. But as long as we have each other, we’ll get through it.”
Cadence blinks back tears. She is not going to cry over someone she only knew for a couple of weeks. “If you say so.”
“I promise.” Hawthorne holds out his pinky because despite being over a century old, he’s a child. Cadence links her finger with his, giving him a watery smile. They turn back to the maps, bouncing ideas off each other.
Eventually, they collect enough ideas to feel prepared to go out and search for their missing friend. They pull on their coats, and head outside. It’s snowing, and Hawthorne pauses to try to catch snowflakes on his tongue. With a roll of her eyes, Cadence does the same.
They fly around the city in their bat forms, searching for Morrigan. It’s getting lighter by the time Cadence spots Morrigan’s suitcase and bumps into Hawthorne on her descent. He follows her, and they land nearby where Morrigan is eating takeout Indian food. Cadence pulls Hawthorne behind a corner so Morrigan can’t see them.
“What do we say?” she hisses in his ear.
“Ask her if she’s ok. Tell her that we’d miss her if she left,” Hawthorne suggests. Upon seeing Cadence’s face, he reassures her, “We’re doing this together, remember?”
“As if I need you,” Cadence says, but lets Hawthorne lead the way to Morrigan. Once the two of them are a few feet from Morrigan, Morrigan notices them with a startle.
“What are you doing here?” she grumbles. “How’d you find me?”
“We’re your friends. Also, we searched the city,” Hawthorne says, bluntly.
“I left,” Morrigan says, like that was enough to end their friendship. Like either of them would let her go this easily, with this little explanation.
“Why?” Cadence says, more sadly than she’d like.
“You wouldn’t understand,” Morrigan says, standing up and dusting herself off. She throws the rest of her food in the trash. Speaking of her food, what was up with that? First going out in sunlight, then eating human food. What weird kind of vampire was she?
“Let us try,” Hawthorne responds, stepping closer to Morrigan. He holds his hands out like Cadence remembers him doing to her during their first fight. Maybe this will turn out as well as that fight did. Cadence trusts Hawthorne more in this than she does herself.
Morrigan lets out a mocking little laugh. “I don’t think you really want to know.” Under her breath, she says, “I don’t really want you to know.”
“Please?” Cadence asks. The snow keeps falling all around them. The world is a beautiful snow globe, and Cadence’s stomach feels sick.
Morrigan doesn’t say another word. She simply grabs her suitcase and goes down the escalator to the subway. Hawthorne and Cadence run after her, but she disappears into the early morning crowd.
To Cadence’s dismay, the sun has already risen.
-
Cadence and Hawthorne get on a train that stops near their apartment on its loop, and Hawthorne passes out after a few stops. Cadence envies him. He’s always been able to sleep easier. Cadence watches passengers come and go, and thinks about Morrigan.
Morrigan, she’s realized, is weird as hell.
She eats human food and goes out in the sunlight, yet tells them she’s a vampire. Cadence has lived with her long enough to know that Morrigan can’t tell a lie to save her life. Literally. She can’t lie to Dearborn.
So Morrigan’s definitely a vampire.
In the decades Cadence has been a vampire, she’s only heard of one creature like Morrigan. It’s a horrid possibility, but Cadence needs to figure it out. She’s always survived by taking the upper hand in every situation she can, and she needs to know more about this one to do that. And if anyone knew more about what Morrigan might be, it would be Jupiter North.
Looks like they’re paying a visit to the Hotel Deucalion.
Cadence wakes Hawthorne up once she’s made up her mind. He rubs the sleep out of his eyes before saying, “To ask them about how to convince her to come back?”
“No, idiot, to figure out what Morrigan is. But that’s not actually a bad idea,” Cadence says. Hawthorne has a knack for finding the emotional side of everything.
“Thanks, Cadence,” Hawthorne says, sarcastically. “It’ll be nice to see them all again.”
“Maybe.”
Hawthorne laughs, but Cadence feels a wave of nausea at the thought of talking to the inhabitants of the Hotel Deucalion. There’s Jupiter North, who is overly friendly in a way that Cadence has no idea how to deal with. Dame Chanda and Frank are both intimidating in their flair and social know-how, whereas Fenestra is simply terrifying. Out of all of them, Cadence likes Kedgeree the most.
“I wonder if Jack will be there,” Hawthorne muses.
“Let’s hope not,” Cadence says. She and Jack Korrapati have a love-hate friendship in which they’ll brutally insult each other but then get tea after and make fun of people they both know. Cadence doesn’t particularly care to deal with it today.
Hawthorne and Cadence get off the train, and Cadence leads them to the next train they’ll have to take. A steady stream of evening commuters are arriving, and Cadence and Hawthorne weave through the crowd. They hop on their train, and Hawthorne passes the time by trying to come up with backstories for different passengers, which he whispers to Cadence. Cadence contributes a snide comment or two when she feels like it.
She appreciates the distraction.
Hotel Deucalion is a huge hotel in downtown, known for its upscale clientele and mysterious proprietor. Despite most of the staff being vampires or other paranormal entities, the hotel still caters to rich, regular humans. Cadence will never not be on her guard at the Hotel Deucalion.
As she and Hawthorne make their way through the lobby, Cadence relaxes her posture and keeps her head down. Despite some changes happening since Cadence was human, there haven’t been enough for her to discard her defense mechanisms. Hawthorne is much more welcome in this space than she is, and so she has him pave their way.
Hawthorne flings open the door to the basement of the Hotel Deucalion, and he and Cadence descend into the supernatural side of the hotel. The basement is lit by neon purple lights today, and it’s bustling. Some werewolves are playing pool, other witches are starting a game of poker. Two chimera children run in front of Cadence, almost tripping her up.
Cadence scans the crowd for Jupiter North. She spots him in the back, laughing with the vampire dwarf Frank. Cadence takes Hawthorne by the arm and heads towards him. Hawthorne resists, until he notices where they’re going.
Jupiter sees they’re approaching him, and sends Frank off with a blinding grin. It disappears when he turns towards them. “Where’s Morrigan?” he asks.
Cadence’s brow furrows. “You know her?”
“I know of her. Let’s go to my office.” Jupiter leads them to an unassuming door in the corner. He opens it, and gestures for them to go inside. Cadence and Hawthorne sit on the couch near the door, while Jupiter paces the room.
“What do you know about Morrigan?” Hawthorne asks, suspiciously.
“Nothing you two probably don’t suspect. Look, I’d hate to tell anyone this, but Morrigan is,” Jupiter takes a deep breath, “a daywalker.”
“I knew it,” Cadence mutters harshly.
“This doesn’t change anything, right? It can’t,” Hawthorne pleads.
Jupiter sighs. “It doesn’t have to. After their creation, daywalkers don’t do any harm to their environment inherently. Some choose to, but that’s all it is: a choice.”
Daywalkers are vampires that kill other vampires, and with their life energy become able to walk in the sunlight, and eat human food. The only downside is that a daywalker can’t transform into a bat.
Cadence doesn’t know how many vampires were killed to change Morrigan into a daywalker. She doesn’t want to. Sure, she and Hawthorne kill humans all the time, but it’s not the same. They could’ve known the vampires Morrigan killed.
But, it seemed like Morrigan regretted her murders. Cadence hopes so.
“Thanks, Jupiter,” Hawthorne says, sounding like he’s about to cry. Cadence rests her hand on his knee, trying not to think about how she feels the same.
“Always,” Jupiter says. “Now, do either of you know where Morrigan is?”
Cadence purses her lips. Hawthorne says, “We found her. It didn’t go well. She ran away.”
“Wonderful, absolutely wonderful,” Jupiter responds sarcastically. “Well, do you two want to help me find her?”
“Why do you want to find her?” Cadence asks. Daywalkers are highly reviled in the vampiric community, and Cadence doesn’t want any harm to come to Morrigan before they can talk again.
“Don’t worry. I want the best for her,” Jupiter says. Cadence feels a weight disappear from her shoulders. “So. How about this? You two search the West Side, while I organize my staff to search the other neighborhoods. If she’s out of the city, I’ll find her.”
“How?” Hawthorne asks, incredulous.
Jupiter winks. “I have my ways.” In a lower voice, he says, “I have super good eyesight. Came after a millennium.” Often, vampires get senses sharpened as they age. Cadence doesn’t know why, but she’s looking forward to it.
-
Hawthorne and Cadence split up to search the West Side, and Cadence flies for what feels like hours alone. It’s not snowing anymore, but the winds keep slapping her back and forth. It takes all she has to will herself to keep flying, keep looking.
Cadence ends up being the one to find Morrigan. Morrigan’s in a city park, a small one that consists of a strip of land around a lake the size of a city block. She’s sitting on a bench feeding the ducks.
Cadence lands beside her, and once she changes back into her ‘human’ form she says, “Most park rangers would tell you not to feed the ducks, you know.”
Morrigan jumps a foot into the air. She narrows her eyes. “You weren’t supposed to find me again.”
“So what? We need to talk.” Cadence sits on the bench next to Morrigan.
“There’s nothing to talk about. I’m moving out. That’s all there is,” Morrigan says, a trace of sadness infusing her voice.
“If you really do want to move out, that’s fine. Hawthorne and I aren’t going to kidnap you or anything. But you don’t have to. Whoever you are, whatever you are, you don’t need to. We just want you back,” Cadence says. She’s been flying for almost the entire day. She is exhausted in both body and mind, and she’s surprised that she means exactly what she’s saying. “Come back, Morrigan. Please.”
Minutes pass before Morrigan speaks. “I’m a daywalker,” she begins. “I’m part of the Crow family-I’m assuming you knew that already, though. They kicked me out for being gay,” and here Morrigan’s voice cracks, “and Ezra Squall found me. He turned me, then made me a daywalker. He’s one too, you know, even more powerful than me. I stayed with him for a while. Longer than I should have. I did his bidding.”
Cadence tucks away the discovery of Ezra Squall’s villainy away for the moment. “But you left.”
“That doesn’t change what I did. What I am.”
“It’s what matters,” Cadence says. “You’re not that person anymore. You left, and you found us. That’s what matters. Come back.”
“You both are so…” Morrigan trails off. She doesn’t look at Cadence.
“When I first met Hawthorne, I punched him in the nuts. I didn’t admit we were friends for decades. I have been insufferable, and frustrating, and awful. I’ve made him cry countless times. I’ve hurt a lot of people, and I’ve murdered loads. You aren’t any worse than me.”
Morrigan turns to face Cadence. Now, Cadence can see the silent tears streaming down Morrigan’s face. “Don’t lie to me,” Morrigan says.
“Ask Hawthorne. I’m not lying. I would never lie about something like this,” Cadence promises.
Morrigan lets out an audible sob. She crumples into Cadence’s arms. Morrigan cries, and cries, and cries. She soaks Cadence’s shirt, and Cadence strokes her hair. They stay like that, fit together like puzzle pieces, until Morrigan lifts up her head.
“Thank you,” Morrigan says.
“Anytime,” Cadence says, and means it.
