I'll just say that I think while all of the characters in DMC are extremely underrated in terms of writing, Vergil is the undisputed best. Granted, he does seem to be the favorite child of Itsuno-san, but the fact that he retroactively inadvertently set up the events of practically every game in the series and even some parts of the novels means that his presence is felt even in stories he isn't in, which is fantastic decision for such a fan favorite, so I can't even fault him for it. He's sorta like Toji from JJK in that the majority of his impact pre DMC 5 is posthumous. Then 5 and Visions of V came out and he gets to have 2 character arcs at the same time, while also giving Nero his next one and helping to finish Dante's. He's somehow the perfect mixture of a walking plot device and a genuine character.
