I will never not get annoyed over people saying that Brian/Grue joining the Heroes was the obvious and easiest choice out there. Admittedly, the WOGs expand more on it, but even with what we get from Arc 4 when he talks about his trigger event, I can't comprehend how anyone wouldn't see the reasons for him not wanting to join the government sponsored heroes.

Basing this off memory, but to sum it up, Brian goes to him moms house after getting a text from Aisha asking for help. He finds her in some poor condition ( I don't think he goes into detail and it may not matter if he did cause he's not telling the full truth here) and when he tries to take her back to his dad's, their step-dad gets in thew ay and doesn't let them leave. Brian proceeds to beat him up, take his sister back, and gets powers sometime in between.

Then, he, aisha, and their dad go to the police the very next morning. They explain what happened and Brian still describes how he almost got sent to jail. Only aisha backing him up and his step-dad missing an asshole anonymous meeting saved him. And he still got some months of community service. Like, in my opinion he did the right thing every step of the way and still almost got screwed over.

Sometime later, (not immediately cause he's 14 to 15 when he gets powers) he decides to try and take care of aisha by being a villain to get enough money/backing to do it.

That's all described in arc 4. Now we get into the WOGs. Again, basing this off memory, but I can try to find them later.

First, Brian lied about his trigger, a little bit. General event still happened, but when he claimed he didn't know who the man was besides being his mom's new boyfriend, he lied. He knew that man bc it was the same boyfriend who had abused him in the past. And his mom brought him back and let him interact with his sister. Add in his mom's other problems and his dad's ("I wouldn't describe him as abusive") there was a fair bit of emotions Brian was going through that he didn't share. But at the end of the day, every adult in his life failed him and his sister. He wouldn't be willing to extend his trust as easily.

Second, a different WOG described Brian getting into crime in a panic bc aisha had done something afterward that led to her needing to get bailed out of something with money (again, going off memeory) so even if he wanted to join the wards he'd be doing it with a record. Presumably he later decided he might as well go all in on it and get aisha into a safer environment than both his parents. He probably thought it may help with keeping her out of trouble as well if she wasn't around two people who didn't know how to raise kids (not that he did either, but he probably thought he couldn't do worse).

Third, by WOG he did actually consider the wards, but after researching them decided they wouldn't be worth it. Admittedly this was moreso bc of his own hangups with commitment. Bc telling the big organization your power and identity then trying to bail wouldn't really work out, but apparently it was still preferable to a career of crime. It's not like the Protectorate would actually have authority to take a child away from their parents anyway without major proof, especially if that kid isn't a parahuman themself.

Fourth, the undersiders were generally a low risk high reward chance until Taylor joined and brought them her bad luck. They operated for a year and only got into some mild skirmishes with Lung and them being escape artist didn't have an issue with him. Besides that, they made a shot ton of money on top of the 2grand their sponsor gave them.

Fifth, I don't think we ever learned what the time table was for Coil helping out with Brian getting custody, especially given how suspicious Brian was of their mysterious boss and his motives preleviathan. Maybe Coil admitted to knowing Brian's problems and offered a solution at the start. Maybe Brian opened up with it as a condition to him joining. Or maybe after a few months of getting 2grand a relatively easy missions Brian decided to trust the boss who hadn't screwed him and ask for the money to be given to him in a legal paycheck for better chance at custody. I say that last option bc Brian is supposed to be the careful pragmatic one who thinks about his choices and doesn't do the crazy option unless bug girl decides to go full throttle and he begrudgingly goes along. And giving his personal details and a sure fire way of blackmail isn't excalty the pragmatic choice.

Tldr: he has to have some pretty big distrust of authority cause shifty parents and probably shotty police and by WOG became a criminal in a panic before going full in on it. Cause he was, again, like 15 years old.

Now, the argument for him joining the wards is that the Heroes/PRT could have snapped their fingers and given everything Brian would want. And seeing the deal Madcap got I can definitely see the idea behind it, but there are a few problems with that. A) Brian wouldn't know shit about how desperate the Heroes are bc they don't advertise that. B) I'm not sure how much power they would actually have over taking kids away from unhealthy environments cause laws and shit would probably limit that. C) as stated above, he says he almost got jailed for hurting his step-dad so I don't see him liking authority at this stage, no matter how just he was in the eyes of the law for it. D) Brian's own issues and that he's a 15 year old so he won't see the world as a perfectly rational being.

the hero system was fucked, to say the least.

youve interned at the hawks residence for some time to know that, yet, it still surprises you to the very day. the amount of villains whos been locked up but yet have somewhat a valid— no, a good reason of doing what they do. whether its to feed their families, feed themselves, help their parents because they cant do it, or simply show the fact that there are people in need but labeled as villains… whether by their mutant quirks or ‘unfit’ quirks.

you couldve been one of them, since you were labeled as a villain since your quirk first activated. even your own mother acted as such.

“gorgon, you ready?” tokoyami asked, bringing you back into reality and making a small pat in your back.

you give a soft smile, tilting your head and nodding. “yeah, lets go.” you say, smoothing out your hero form and patrolling around for hawks–meanwhile he chats it up with endeavor.

you were graduating soon from yuuei high… shit, time went fast. ontop of that, you were about to be a hero. something you desired since in the womb. but, something did feel sort of … off. as in your mentor.

he had been avoiding you sometimes, and you knew it. because he didnt do it with tokoyami, he casually talks with the kid most of the time. but with you? it was short and dry. especially when it was only you two since tokoyami had classes still.

and its like he wouldnt even look at you.

“hawks? can i talk to you?” you pull him to the side, apologizing to endeavor, yet he grunts a ‘i was done talking to him, anyway.’

“whats up?” he asks, he has that dumbass stance that pushes his hip’s forward but he leans backwards. oh well, you werent here to talk posture. you folded your arms, and he folded his too.

“why are you avoiding me? arent you supposed to be mentoring me and teaching me things to be a hero? how am i supposed to learn if youre just going to focus on one person but not both that you took in?”

“its in your head.” he deadpanned, adjusting his visors and looking down at you. “you think im avoiding you when im not. just relax, little one.” he reassured, patting your head and smiling.

you feel some sort of relief, yet, still confusion and suspicious. you nod, turning on your heels and walking back to patrol area, his eye twitching. he excuses himself into a secluded alleyway and readjusted his pants, along with clutching at his chest. more importantly, above his heart.

you catch on too fast, extremely too fast. it makes a good spy or undercover agent, but now? it was bad.

he steadies his breathing, rolling his eyes back and exhaling. fuck, do you understand how intoxicating your air was? you had to have known. yet, you seem so oblivious. he pulls himself together, getting back to the group and unfortunately, groupies started to form.

‘can i get an autograph, mr hawks?’

‘please sign my tits, im your biggest fan!’

‘are you currently in a relationship?’

the last one stuck out to him, paparazzi swarming him and endeavors’ kids. but his eyes looked for you, bingo.

his eyes rest on you, somewhat of a glare but a trained look onto you. his heart beats faster, but his head is brought back to reality and he puts on that usual poker face.

actually no one GAF if i go crazy insane style here so whatever my here comes science headcanons. because sure.

-dr. flans has a degree...as a science teacher. he's completely qualified within a certain limit, but the "dr." part of his title is completely for show. linnell doesn't have any qualification to be teaching alongside him either. nonetheless they do whatever they wantsss :p

-they arent mad scientists, per say? they don't really have a lot of interest in regularly playing god or doing anything sinister, but they are ultimately in the pursuit of knowledge. when children aren't around they get extremely eager to sacrifice their own well-being just to figure something out.

-on that topic, they're a very strange mix of things? composition-wise, they're close to zooplankton, but on a much higher sentience level than that of something like a jellyfish. whatever they are, their bodies retain most human function but decidedly lack the actual organs that would make it make sense. dont ask me about scijohn biology, because i dont know and i dont think about it THAT much.

-here comes science as a dvd is a documentation of them specifically during their work on a cloning project. the machine malfunctions three times: once creating a green linnell (that happened to be much dumber than linnell, additionally), once creating the three evil linnells, and once creating a teenaged clone of flansburgh. the purpose of this machine was for flansburgh's own use, to create more help around the lab (as he seemingly cannot picture anyone more helpful than himself?), but it likely ended up scrapped.

-the clones dont die any easier than the scijohns would. they're all just...hanging out. the three linnell clones are probably trying to eat a cactus right now.

-flansburgh and linnell are both rather passionate about their areas, so much so that both get a little freaked about getting anything wrong. linnell tends to completely doubt everything he's said up to the point when he states misinfo, and flansburgh will sometimes double down in shame (IE photosynthesis and speed + velocity) when he's wrong. ultimately, this mindset is probably part of the reason they'd struggle as actual qualified scientists.

-the laboratory looks purposefully small on the outside---what is pictured in WDTSRS is actually very close to the top. the reason was likely for practical testing reasons. if the clones WERE to be evil (as they did turn out), being trapped in an enclosed space with them would make everything worse. the actual lab stretches down for multiple floors, with a practical living space located somewhere between the top and the bottom.

-strangely, despite having rooms dedicated to practically everything sciency (including things that...really dont need rooms), their recording studio is just a tidied up storage room.

-flansburgh has two cats---for the sake of ease i'm saying password1234 and mc freshstep, but i am aware he used to have different cats. against all scientific regulations he used to let them go wherever in the lab. he had to toughen up after an accident---with no harm to the cats, of course, but linnell sure wasnt happy.

-linnell, contrary to popular belief, is not a lab assistant (though he does take a more passive role than flans). he and flansburgh both act as scientists, and his input on a project is truthfully very important to flans. he's not dumb about science---he's just slightly better on paper. not as if flansburgh is any regulation-following hero.

-okay no one is going to agree with me on this but im like, 99% dr. linnell's likely wealthy or dead and wealthy father is helping pay for that lab. no one just HAS a portrait like that. he had good money to spend. linnell is a total nepo baby. that last sentence wasn't true.

-is their world populated with other organisms like them? well, not really. if they looked hard enough im sure there's a few around, but for the most part it's a total grab bag of creatures and people.

-the dr flans teen clone just...lives in their lab. flansburgh wants badly to experiment on him, and thus the clone somehow has a better relationship with dr linnell than his own future self. they're somewhat like his parents, but he's largely independent and under-supervised as neither are entirely sure what to be doing with him. big into wasting their budget they are lying to the government to get.

-linnell specifically knows a lot about the spectrum of light and light science in general. whether this is due to his father or due to a liking for cameras, it's hard to tell.

-their lab is really only a few miles off from the city, but they're happy to treat it as an isolated desert regardless. it's largely so singular to make sure none of their experiments end up affecting urban areas. a potential downside of this is perhaps the fact that, in lieu of simply driving to the lab each day in their electric cars, they've chosen to simply live where they work. this has effected their social patterns in ways everyone but them can see clearly.

What follows is simply a bunch of my nonsensical responses to the first 2 episodes in no particular order; I really cannot explain that any other way I’m afraid

Sally saying not everyone who looks like a hero is a hero and not everyone who looks like a monster is a monster - THE FORESHADOWING??? THE REFERENCE TO BOOKS THAT ARENT EVEN BEING ADAPTED YET IM LOSING MY MIND - Also, the justice for Medusa in this was absolutely gorgeous and so well done because it didn’t black and white anyone as just a hero or just a villain but very well highlighted the woven and layered morality of a very complex web of stories, personally I’m mostly a Medusa defender but give me a good quality, well written Perseus retelling and you could probably convince me otherwise I think the point of many of these stories is that there is never a true victor and nothing is ever as easy to understand as a hero and a monster. I’m getting distracted now but hey let’s keep going, I really love Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes, which very strongly labels Perseus as the monster and Medusa as the victim, but I also think there is an argument that Danaë’s plight was diminished/overlooked in it and I would be open to hearing opposing views on that. Since I’m in this tangent I should add I don’t study classics I am just a fan, so I’m not the expert and would generally expect others to know more than me so get it out there I’m eager to learn. Anyway, Percy Jackson (sorry for the tangent)

I actually really like that they had Annabeth clock who Percy’s father was and push him into the water instead of it being Clarisse shoving him into the creek and stumbling upon it by accident, because it really heightened that idea of her being six steps ahead

I think the conflict between Grover and Percy was interesting and I’m intrigued as to how easily it’s resolved with the quest coming up, and on that point am I right that Sally making Grover swear to protect Percy was a new addition? Because I’m guessing that if the conflict between them is still heightened then that’s going to be the logical reason Grover uses to get into the quest, but also they made a big deal out of that and I kept expecting her to request he swear it on the Styx but she didn’t, I wonder if it was meant to be implied (?) or maybe I’m just reading into it

There was less Annabeth screen time than I was expecting but every second she was on screen was PERFECTION

I love camp so much! The cabins are incredible and the interior of the Hermes is so much nicer than I imagined whilst still maintaining a kind of overcrowded atmosphere, I love it.

acolyte review (before season finale)

i was really interested in this show esp because its based in the high republic. this is the first time we've gotten a media recreation other than glimpses in jedi: survivor and I'm also pretty sure the kids show disney made was also based in the hr time period. but anyway - other than the books as well, this is the first live-action retelling of a hr story.

i feel like a lot of people didn't like it because of that, but it really hooked me in. I've always been pretty into the hr book series and have loved this idea of "before the chosen one" trope. in the acolyte, we're 100 years or so b4 anyone like obi-wan or anakin or luke have been born. its another really great setting up - plus, as an avid hr reader, it helped me visualize what was going on during that whole shebang

but so - during the start of the acolyte I was a little bit wary and a tad bored. i feel like they started with a fairly slow (if murder is slow) introduction to the story, but I really do understand why they did it like that. once shit hit the fan and we were getting jedi action (plus the dents of twins? alive?/whats going on? sort of thing) I was really starting to get interested. the characters in acolyte are SO well done - like honestly its kind of craz how good they're written. even the "good guys" have good writing, which can be hard to do for heroes when the villains usually have all the sweet ass storytelling.

i thought the force here was sooo well done. like this idea of osha not being able to use the force after some time - ESPECIALLY her using the excuse of "if you were a jedi" (or something along these lines) "you would know that the force gets weaker if you don't practice with it" like girl ok! and with qimir and him being like dude, no.

QIMIR! ok so i understand the whole reason people like him is because of his looks and the fact that he was naked (which I will get to) but I'm SOOO interested in his character arc. his manipulation tactics are honestly so believable that IM having a hard time trying to discern whether or not the jedi are good or bad. i think I've always been fairly pro-jedi esp with how the orig tri plays jedi out to be and how the hr books have all these really anti-jedi antigonists. I've always believed the jedi to be a good force of nature, and haven't really paid much mind to this idea of "what if". in the acolyte, it feels like. they're REAL people.

idk i feel like sometimes it gets hard to see the real people in jedi and not thin k they're just some servants of the light or whatever. for me, I feel like that also comes from the "no relationships" motto, which sort of defeats the whole "human/person" idea for me. i hate thinking jedi arent people and don't have faults, but with how a lot o the media portrays them, that's how I've felt for a really long time. in here, I felt like I was seeing real people in real situations. idk

with how sol was acting with osha ("do not confuse [her] emotions with your own") I was sooo in love with that. him not knowing whether or not its his emotions or the force pulling them together (because we all know the force puts padawan/master together when it knows they're a good fit) but still continuing. him choosing to SAVE OSHA INSTEAD OF MAE. and going on to say he "did his best" and "tried to save both of them" to osha and flicking the blame on mae by saying the fire was all her fault (which it was, but he deliberately didn't tell osha what "really" happened ((in the words of mae I suppose))) but this isn't me saying that sol is a bad person and should totally get stripped of his title or whatever - someone (not sure who) on here talked about how he was the only one out of all the jedi on the trip to actually go and do something about his guilt. he went and he trained osha to the best of his abilities, he trained younglings (telling them NOT to trust what they initially see, to keep searching for answers), and he went on trying to make good with mae even after he knew she was going to kill him.

but so on the dark side (plus I guess qimir being naked) I was really interested in this idea of jedi not being able to harm the unarmed. we see this happen with sol and aniseya, where she DOES technically look like shes about to go off and kill someone with her whole dust act, but she is STILL technically unarmed. sol goes and stabs her because he has no idea what is happening. cue 1st action. 2nd action is when we have the scene between sol and qimir where he almost attacks him while he's "unarmed" (pls I don't trust this man) but osha stops him. with OSHA, we see this happen when she sort of attacks qimir while he's unarmed - and not just unarmed, also litterllay butt naked. that's like the full ass definition of unarmed. it goes fully against jedi code - if she had killed him, she would have killed him unarmed and with no dignity, which no jedi would ever want to do. because she had the option to do it, he basically tested her - it was his way of seeing whether or not she was a "good" option for an apprentice. he prob would have taken her anyway, but with how it went with mae, he was defo being wary.

but him being a sith for me was pretty easy to see right off the bat, since he disappeared and then sith master just "appeared" I thought, oh yeah, that's qimir. but as the fighting went on and I went between the costume differences between him and feeble qimir, I thought, well...no?? it doesn't make sense. he doesn't look the same - and then it WAS HIM. but also I think this idea of osha becoming sith apprentence and mae becoming jedi apprentice would be so interesting. ying and yang but they switch lmao

but I'm supppeper excited for the season finale!!! my prediction is that osha accepts being qimirs apprentice, mae accepts being sol's apprentice (if that happens), and maybe/maybe not they find osha and qimir and qimir convinces osha to fight against her past master. idk. would love to see some kyber bleeding in s2. love!!

pspspsps. transfem zuko headcanons? im all ears please tell me

you have no idea how much I've waited for the day someone asks me about this...

ok so I want to start about how I think her childhood was like. pretty much everything happened the same as in canon but!!! ursa realized that there was something going on with zuko (she was showing her feminity) she didn't know exactly what, but she neither wanted to dig too deep. she just went "oh wow my kid is a queer, I personally don't care but I don't want to see him get hurt" so she let zuko try some jewelry and do femenine things with her but letting her know that it was seen as something "bad". HC that zuko secretly loves (both in canon and in this au) when azula calls her zuzu bc it's not a masculine nickname. anyways stuff happen, zuko started hiding that part of herself and then Ursa leaves and the agni Kai happens and she had to cut her hair (ouch). she didn't let it grow back or have it united bc she felt ashamed about everything about her !!!!! (I know I'm making this up myself but IM GOING TO CRY UGHHHH). there's more under the cut, I just don't want to make this too long lmao

ok so 3 years go by she gets really depressed and angry and blah blah blah your average zuko angry but with more flavour. then she a iroh have to flee from de FN and she cuts her hair!!!!! and lets it grow longer (it grows really fast ok?) which feels great for her and when they get to BBS and trans stuff start to happen. I have this idea (idk if this works well with canon but idc) that, meanwhile in the FN lee is a masc name in the EK the only name similar is Li (a femenine name) so one time iroh is talking to a costumer and calls "lee" to help him and the consumer just says something like "oh I didn't know you had a daughter" and iroh doesn't correct them (old man suspects a few things) and neither does zuko so iroh looks at her with that knowing smile but let's it be hehehehehe.

also I have a feeling that in BBS they arent really lgbt friendly but they let queer people live their lifes freely bc they want everyone to be "happy", so there's a ton of LGBT paces. zuko just happens to stumble in one and there's a lot of queer people and when zuko tells them that her name is Li they share a look and go "li girl come here, let us give you a makeover" and they dress her and put make up and jewelry on her. zuko starts coming over and meets a bunch of trans people and realizes that there's nothing wrong with her (after this is by the time she catches that 'im becoming good' fever, because she's also redeeming herself). she doesn't tell iron but!! she start wearing a bit more femenine clothes and some jewelry and pretty much everyone in the tea shop calls her iroh's niece/daughter so...

oh!!!! and zuko and jet have a thing bc jet didn't realize that she was a firebender until after the ferry. so one time zuko takes the courage to tell him that she's a girl (first person she actually came out to) and jet is completely fine with it bc why wouldn't he?? and then he finds out she's a firebender and tries to kill her (jet is a dumbass, he doesn't die and 5 years later they find each other and jet sees her and is like wow I shouldn't have tried to kill her but Zuko doesn't want to know anything about jet bc #girl boss). also the blue spirit is believed to be a girl and when zuko first heard someone say "oh wow do you not know about the blue spirit? she's like the coolest folk hero ever..." she got really fucking happy but attached it to the fact that that way people wouldn't associate the blue spirit with her (lie).

and this is without going too much into what would happen after she joins the gang (not really sure when that would happen, if in the bbs catacombs or like in canon after going to the FN) but she and Katara would be absolutely besties after the firsts weeks and Katara would be GLAD, even if she tries to not show it, to finally have someone to be girls with (no, she insists that toph doesn't count because she's just as nasty, if not more, as the boys) and Katara would say stuff like omg im going to teach you how to be the perfect girl, and even though it might sound weird bc katara wtym perfect girl, but they are both excited asf and loving the concept so it doesn't matter (they are doing each others hair while shit talking about people)

i would love to know your opinions about what would she change her name to bc, yeah she prefers li over zuko but it's still very much a masculine name to her fire nation ears. so I have a few opinion but in not really sure witch one I like the best: suzume, sao, sakda or kuniko. but I'm open to hear any suggestions tho! and about head canons too, and pretty much anything related to transfem zuko!!!!!

watching "Listen" from 12 and then directly afterwards "The Devil's Chord" from 15 was the wrong decision on my part. it only made the devil's chord that much more painful. like listen isn't like an insanely good episode or anything but it. actually feels like a sci-fi show. and it has a very touching ending with clara and kid doctor.

a better comparison would be with "Robot of Sherwood" from 12 vs. devil's chord. they're both the 2nd episode of their respective doctors, with the plot being the companion's "i've always wanted to go to-" dream. both are EXCELLENT companion dreams: robin hood and the beatles. both have INSANE levels of potential for shenanigans between people of legendary status and doctor + companion. but um. one is done incredibly and the other is. not.

Robot of Sherwood: start in the TARDIS with doctor & companion. wanna see robin hood, oh but robin hood is not real - and wow, an idea held by a character in the intro scene will actually play a key role in both the comedy AND emotional charge for the entire episode! for the rest of the episode, you have robin hood as the 3rd protagonist in TONS of scenes, with iconic characters as his merry men and the sheriff making appearances. and look, an actual sci-fi thing going on! the guards are robots and they're stealing gold for their spaceship! cool!! and then the emotion-based ending of the doctor and robin relating over being legendary heroes who will only be remembered as such.

The Devil's Chord: start in unknown location with piano guy and his student. that's fine, it's setting up the plot, sure. get some fun piano playing and holy shit okay the villain is right here and just immediately showing their entire hand and purpose?? okay so they're killing people because they want music to themself. okay, they seem cool enough, there must be some interesting thing about them that we'll learn later. switch to TARDIS, wanna see the beatles, let's go!, montage of them watching famous musicians be shit at EMI studios. oh hey it's george martin the producer of the beatles thats fun!! annnnnnd he has more lines than ringo and george combined and this is basically the last time we will see half of the beatles! um. okay. i am dead serious half the beatles have about 2-3 lines between them and they only speak in 1 fucking scene. there's a cool scene with paul & doctor and ruby & john, i really liked how they explained the disappearance of music and the inherent terror everyone seemed to feel of the maestro (the villain) coming to get them. the scene on the rooftop is cool! im a pianist and i love orchestral music so i really liked that. but i was so terrified she was going to start singing at any moment because i cannot handle any more cringe-worthy songs in this show i just can't. this is not a musical. anyway, the whole episode falls apart when you realize oh the beatles arent actually what this episode is about and oh the maestro is literally just the character that you saw in the intro scene and they have no twist motive and no emotional charge and yeah they're the toymaker's kid so they're a "force of nature" and not an alien with cool science and they just want allll the music. and then there's long "fight" scenes and then john and paul save the day without saying a single word in a 15-second long total shot. and then there's a fully fever-dream level dance and song montage.

i dont know too much about peoples' opinions on 15 so far cause ive had spoiler tags blocked for months, but from what i HAVE seen, it's been really positive. am i blind? am i stupid? am i bigoted????? why dont i like the vibes of this season?? maybe im just spiraling because ive been so hyped to watch the beatles episode as a beatles fan for MONTHS and just can't cope with ringo and george being written out. ive only seen 3 episodes w 15. i so hope it gets better. please let it be better. if they do another musical number i will kill something. i will spontaneously combust.

You were in your apartment, watching the rain fall onto the glass window you were staring out of. You’d hope this valentines day would’ve been different, especially because you were in a loving relationship this time. But you guess dating a hero comes with its flaws.

For the last month or so, your older neighbor has been knocking on your door, thinking your apartment was theirs. It was cute at first but once it started to happen at 4 am, it wasn’t as cute.

“I’m sorry Ms. Herbert but your apartment is next do-” you started to say as you opened the door. But when you looked it wasn’t the small old woman. It was the tall man you’ve grown to love. “Jason..” you say in a feathery tone. 

He was holding flowers, balloons, chocolate, a little red bag, and a bag of what smelled like food but he held a smile on his face. “Hey, can I come in?” he asks

“Are you kidding me? Of course” you step aside, Jason walking in. 

When you closed the door there were already a strong pair of arms wrapped around you. “Happy Valentine’s Day, my love. Sorry, I wasn’t here today” he kissed the top of your head, the items still in his hands poking you. 

“Jason, I wasn’t even expecting you. Your showing up is enough for me” you said, wrapping your arms around him.

“Call it a surprise valentine”

Jason pulled back a bit so you could see his smile and kissed you. His lips, are so soft and so gentle with you. Like if he kissed you too hard, you would break. But that hadn’t stopped him from before. Unfortunately this time he couldn’t hold your face, as he’d usually do. But that doesn’t stop you from doing it to him, grabbing his face like this would be the last time you’ll be able to see him. 

He was the first to pull back, but not for him, for you. He knows how long you could kiss before you needed air, so he pulled back for you. “I need to give you all of these things,” he says, smiling a bit.

“Oh, Jason you didn’t have to” grabbing all the things and moving to the dining table, putting everything down first but not the flowers, letting the balloons float to the ceiling. 

“These are beautiful Jason, I love them”

“I’m glad, took me 20 minutes to find good ones,” he said with a smile on his face.

“What’s this?” pointing to the plastic bag, “that is our dinner for tonight. I knew you wouldn’t have eaten. Hope you don’t mind, I got us burgers,” he says.

He’s looking at you with every word he says. They hold so much love, admiration, and happiness. When you first met Jason, this would’ve been the last sight you’d thought you’d see. But you are, not only are you seeing it, but you’re the reason for it. 

“If you got it from Johnny’s then sure I don’t mind,” you say, getting close and pecking his lips.

“It’s a good thing I got Johnny’s then” he pecks yours. “Open the other bag first please”

“Wait, I need to get your gift first,” you say, walking away quickly.

“What makes you think it’s a gift?” he smirks, walking around the kitchen so he could put the flowers in a vase.

“I know you well enough to know it’s a gift” 

By the time you had come back, Jason was already setting the flowers in the vase, putting it in the middle of the dining table. You handed him his gift and he kissed you again as a thank you.

“You go first,” he said quietly. 

You take the bag he brought, removed the wrapping paper, grabbing the first item you see. It was a card. You read it, the front page, the inside (which almost made you cry), and the back of it. 

“Jay,” you said, hugging him tightly, and him returning the hug. “If you look inside the bag again, it gets better,” he said

You do as you’re told, and when you check back inside, it’s a jewelry box. “No, you didn’t,” you tell him, Jason just smiling back. You grabbed the box, taking it out of the box. “Jason, you did not.” you continue to say. 

You opened the box and it was a beautiful gold bracelet, your initials engraved on the inside. You put a hand to your mouth, speechless. “Oh, you shouldn’t have. I can’t accept this” you mumbled.

Jason laughed, “you can and you will. I’m assuming you like it”

“I love it. It’s gorgeous. How much was this?”

“Don’t worry about the price. I got it for you for a reason. Maybe next year I’ll get you a necklace with our initials” he teases.

The way he didn’t say his initials, your initials, OUR initials. God, you had butterflies in your stomach. 

“Now I feel awful. Give me your gift back, and I’ll take it back and get something else” you say reaching for his bag. 

“Nope. I want this one, you chose it for a reason” he says, holding the gift bag behind him so you wouldn’t be able to get it.

“Jay, please. I need to get you a new one” you said. 

“No” is all he responds with, already opening it. Reading the card quickly and kissing your cheek in response to it. He reached further into the bag without looking and pulled out a first aid kit.

Your face was red as it went to your face, and the room was silent.

“I told you” you mumbled.

Jason laughed loudly, “what do you mean? I love it! I need it the most anyway,” he says

“I got it for you because whenever we’re at your place, you don’t have one. So nurse Y/n can’t do the job the way she wants to” you explain, trying to grab the kit for him so you could return it. 

Jason stopped you by putting his lips on yours, settling the kit down so he could finally touch and hold your face. You didn’t even stop him, kissing back immediately. 

He finally pulled away with a smile on his face and he kissed you again quickly before looking at the kit. “I do love it, thank you,” he says.

“So you don’t hate it?” 

“Of course not, I needed this,” he says, hugging you tightly. “Can we eat now? I’m starving” he says.

You laugh at him and nod, taking out each meal, heading to the couch, and watching several rom-com. Telling each other about the other’s day while watching and eating.

You and Jason would commentate on almost every scene, laughing so hard your cheeks were starting to hurt, and your stomach hurting from the mixture of the food and the laughter. You two had been right next to each other, Jason holding you in his strong arms, helping you feel safe. Eventually, when you were around your 3rd movie, you had fallen asleep.

“There’s no way someone would go on a date with him, right?” Jason asks, when he noticed he wasn’t getting a response or even movement back, he leaned a little forward and saw you were already asleep.

He knew you were tired by your eyes when he had walked through the door. After a couple of minutes to make sure you wouldn’t wake up, he slowly and gently, moved out of the spot he was in holding you. Once he was up, he again, gently and slowly picked you up bridal style.

Jason kissed the top of your head, whispering sweet nothings to you as you were cluelessly asleep. He led you to your side of the bed, pulling the cover you. Kissing your cheek and head before he left again. 

He cleaned up the apartment a bit. Turning off the tv, the leftover food you left you, the gifts that were all over the place, neatly put back in place and put them in your room. He did the dishes and cleaned your countertops.

Finally, when he was done, he changed into some clothes he had left in the drawers and got into bed next to you. Once he pulled the covers over him, it was like you felt when he arrived so you moved closer to him, holding onto him. Jason returning the favor and holding onto you. 

“Happy Valentine’s Day, my love,” he says quietly, kissing the top of your head one last time before he closes his eyes and dreams of you.”

(i used to listen to this song n think a oikawa from haikyuu,,, heh). if theres one thing abt mbappe its that hes dedicated. i can see him "replay(ing) my footsteps on each stepping stone/trying to find the one where i went wrong," yknow, jus thinking abt the final over n over. very "i rewind the tape but all it does is pause/on the very moment all was lost." but at the end of it all, hes young, hes talented, n has more world cups ahead of him. ie: "i had a feeling so peculiar/this pain wouldnt be for/evermore."

klopp: dear reader. this whole song is just advice. its taylor dishing out advice to her fans, most of whom are younger than her. kloppo loves his players, he wants to give them good advice that applies not only on the pitch, but off it as well. (dear reader/bend when you can, snap when you have to/dear reader/you dont have to answer, just cause they asked you) however its no secret that our lovely manager can be pretty hard on himself. so its possible that while he gives advice to those he loves, he feels like hes not worthy of giving it (you wouldnt take my word for it/if you knew who was talking).

Villain x Hero

The party was, to be perfectly honest, pretty boring. You would think that a party thrown by a shit ton of rich people would be more interesting but honestly it was alot of just standing around. There was some dancing going on in the center (to a live orchestra!) but the villain didnt have anyone to dance with so he just stood in the corner sipping champagne and wondering why he had even come.

All of a sudden there was a ruckus, everyone turned to look at the door as a new guest was announced. Hero. he walked into the room looking way too fucking attactive in a black waistcoat, black dress pants and white button up, sleeves rolled up in a way that made his forearms look absolutely delicious, and he should not be thinking these thoughts. That was his enemy for christ sake. It was just that his enemy looked so fucking good in formal wear.

Hero looked over at villain and they made eye contact, then he started over to the corner that villain was standing in. ‘shitshitshit. Why is he coming over here fuckfuckfuck’ the villain thought taking a long drink of his champagne before putting it down. The hero reached him and gave him a devilish smile.

“Why villain, whatever are you doing over here? Are you not enjoying yourself?” he asked, voice silky and smooth.

“Do we have to do this here hero, there are so many people around. Arent you worried about collateral damage?” villain asked, staring past the hero and trying very hard not to look at his soft full lips and sparkling brown eye and- no stop, just look at the pillar past his head.

“Oh darling” he said and the villain almost died right then and there. “Im not here for you, im here for a personal friend”

“Ah i see” so you'll leave me alone then?”

“Well i didnt quite say that”

“What do you mean?”

“Well seeing as no one has snatched you up yet and havent done anything particularly villanous tonite, would you care for a dance?” the hero bowed slightly and held out his gloved hand. The villain accepted hesitantly and heroes long fingers wrapped posessivly around villains hand as he led him over to the dance floor.

“Why would you ask me to dance?” villain said as they started dancing, trying, and failing, to distract himself from heroes hand on his waist, his body pressd up against him as they swayed.

“Well i couldnt just let this opportunity go to waste, why do you think i came to this party in the first place?”

“You said it was for a friend.”

“For a villain you are rather bad at spotting lies my dear”

the villain sucked in a small breath at the nickname and was it his imagination but was the heroes hand slightly tighter around him?

“Wh- what do you mean” the villain said trying to retain his composure.

“Well when i hear you were going to be at this party i just couldent pass up the chance to see you in a suit. And i do say the sight does not disappoint.” he definitely wasnt imagining this time. The hero had pulled him closer, and, was that heros leg pressing slightly between villains?

“What are you playing at hero?”

“Im not playing at anything love. What? Scared of a little harmless flirting?”

“From you?”

Sivvus Origins: In the beginning...

Authors note: this will be a very different person from who you may know Sivvus to be. But we were all children, once. And he was quite the darling, before that Night at the Market...

“Oh but Idun did you see her? How could I be so lucky?”

“Yes, Sivvus. She is lovely,” his elder brother replied with an eye roll, focused on the scroll in front of him as he marked down a list of ingredients one after another. 

“But really, its incredible. Every time we meet she grows more beautiful and more interesting. You know she wants to travel through all the realms? I hope to join her. Do you think we could? I know we arent supposed to, those years are for finding ourselves before we come back together, but oh, I dont want to wait! If I could, I would marry her today!”

“Cool your blood, loverboy. You are just barely eighteen. Your marriage may be arranged, but it is not until you are one hundred ten that it can be made official.” Marking one more thing down, the elder Eladrin rolled up the scroll in hand hands and stuffed it into his bag. Sivvus seemed to not be listening as he bounced up and down beside his brother, following him step for step around the room as he packed for his trip.

“Her eyes- oh, did you see her eyes? Like starlight, like the stars themselves, plucked from the heavens and placed within her.”

“Mhm.”

“And her hair? A ravens wing in flight- nay, the darkest of night made into gossamer threads of magical.. Obsidian…”

“That makes no sense, little poet.”

“You’re right. Ill compose a better one. One thousand poems by the time I see her again. And when we are married-”

“In 92 years?”

“Oh, must it be so long,” Sivvus sighed, tucking his shoulder length hair behind one long ear. He draped himself across the seat of the rooms window, staring out into the perpetual mid-day brightness of the Feywild where they lived.

“....Sivvus. There is a reason for these things. You will live hundreds upon hundreds of years. It is good that you are excited for your betrothed- but there is a whole world out there to explore. Sow some wild oats, have a little adventure, and do not be so preoccupied with this.” Idun, tall and composed, came round to lovingly pat his younger brother on the shoulder. Sivvus looked up at him with shining, inky black eyes full of infatuation and the types of dreams only youth could compose.

“I wont. Im going to wait for her. I dont want anyone else. And I will travel. Ill travel with you! Ill be a hero. Ill come back and show her how good of a husband Im going to be. Ill save people, and- and see the world, Ill become so strong and so talented that she will be proud to have me at her side. Just you see, Idun. Ill be amazing, and she will feel just as proud to have me as I am to be by her side.” The young Eladrin spoke with strong conviction, making a fist and beating it against his chest. 

“Alright, alright. You’ll be incredible…. Hey, you know what? I am travelling to the Night Market on an errand. Why not join me? See a little of the world, my young brother.” Idun smiled distractedly, double checking his bags and smoothing down his robes.

“I am certain Mother and Father would approve. Your first outing, what do you say?”

Sivvus leaped up, jumping at his taller brother and forcing the man to catch him in his arms with an *oof*

“Oh Idun!! Yes! I’d love that! Ah, let me get my sword!” He slipped out of his brothers arms, scrambling for the door that lead down and out of the Wizards tower that was Idun’s rooms. Whipping around, Sivvus grinned, 

“Dont leave without me!” 

Idun sighed, wryly smiling as he shook his head and steadied his pack again.

“I would not dream of it. Meet me at the gates, Sunshine.”

okay so vale dominated the mid-2000s, he has 9 world titles, 7 from motogp (or 500cc back then) marc is uhhh 14 years younger i think? and he looked up to vale. like a lot. (he mightve had a poster of vale in his bedroom growing up)

and then marc starts riding in moto3 and moto2 and its like ‘holy shit that kid is so good’ but also he’s insanely aggressive ?? like so aggressive that he essentially develops a new riding style. and around that time there are a bunch of riders in motogp, namely vale and jorge lorenzo (who marc DID ACTUALLY have a poster of i think) telling marc to calm down and ride cleaner.

in 2013 marc moves up to motogp and life is good for him!! so good!! he becomes the youngest race winner ever and then the youngest motogp champion ever and hes like in love with vale and keeps making heart eyes at him but thats ok!! bc vale makes heart eyes at marc all the time too.

so in 2013 and 2014 everything is great 🫶🫶 theyre in love, vale invites marc to the ranch, blablabla theyre gay whatever. but then 2015 it all goes to shit

marc has a bunch of retirements so it becomes pretty clear that hes not winning the title again. but vale is very much in title contention (hes fighting jorge) plus marc and vale have fought like a lot of times on track and uhhh… things arent that great between them? but whatever bc at least its still cordial. until sepang where they’re fighting again and marc crashes and oops!! it looks like vale kicked marcs bike. vale gets a back of the grid penalty for the crash and he cant recover from that so jorge wins the 2015 title! and from that point marc and vale hate. each other. vale thinks that marc fought him so hard bc he didnt want vale to be champion/wanted a spanish rider to be champion and obvi marc is mad about the kick/alleged crash.

in 2016 they seem to make peace for a lil while? but then in 2018 argentine theyre fighting again. and like i said marc is really aggressive so he kind of crashes vale out? ( im biased towards marc he can do no wring sorry) and after the race marc goes over to vales motorhome to apologize but uccio (vales bff/truck driver/idrk hes just always there) sends marc away. vale later says that he did it bc he knew it wasnt a genuine apology ?

yeah and from that point on they just dont talk. they hate each other for a while, sure, but that fades to a dislike, and dislike fades into indifference and they just do not. care anymore

also there are a lot of other moments like the infamous handshake press interview thing, but also they apparently shook hands in private later? and them in 2020 marc crashes, misses a season, comes back in 2021 for like half a season, then vale retired blablabla they just don’t interact anymore but motogp still liked making them sit awkwardly next to each other in press conferences. uhh yeah that’s basically it but marc did talk abt vale recently and he talked abt how vale had a giant impact on the sport and also he said that he wouldnt act differently in 2015 bc vale was the one who lost his temper 💀💀

If you got to write an ongoing for Rose, what major arcs would you do? Would you have her ice Slade? Would she team up with Jason's Outsiders, end up with Tatsu or Babs, or be her own free agent occasionally punching other heroes?

oh my god yes. im just kinda gonna start dumping thoughts here with no organization im so sorry but here we go

so first of all i know i will never get this but my ideal rose ongoing would be her working mostly alone but sometimes teaming up with people bc she doesnt like to stay with anyone for long but she DOES work with other people when she needs them

shes been in gotham for a while so id prob keep her there and have her team up with other ppl in gotham every once in a while bc. i want her to. i just think gotham is a good place for her because it is a city of the most stubborn people in the world so she would fit right in

id prob have her do kind of the same thing she was up to in Fresh Hell and taking down various crime rings bc i dont really see her caring much about the costumed villains, not to mention there are a hundred other vigilantes in gotham for the Big Bads

also having her in gotham kind of opens up so many roads SO. gotham vigilante teamups <3 first things first i feel the need to say her and bruce would not have any need to interact and i dont think either of them would really want to fhdkjfhdsf like rose is trained and mostly doesnt kill people so i dont think batman would really care what shes doing until she does something bad, and rose wouldnt really like batman (for various reasons that i wont go into rn) so they would kinda just be doing their own thing

ANYWAYS in general i think that the idea of rose teaming up with bats is sooooo funny bc most of the bats are very meticulous planners and make whole schemes for everything they do. while 90% of the time roses plan is "im gonna go in and start punching people and see what happens" so i think she would give whoever shes working with an aneurysm and thats kind of hilarious to me

i want her to team up with steph and cass for homoerotic reasons because they all have so many narrative parallels, ESPECIALLY with cass so i need them to team up again <3 idk what they would be up to besides getting on each others nerves but i need it so bad

also rose & jason Now.. they r besties to me. i feel like they get into a lot of the same shit so they would also team up fairly often :) not to mention both of them have abandonment issues so they would have the most toxic friendship that constantly shifts between codependency and disappearing whenever something bad happens <3 besties<3333333

honorable mention teamups are babs who im pretty sure ive already talked about a babs&rose teamup before so i wont go into it, helena who i honestly have only read in bop so idk a lot about her but from what i do know i think she and rose would get along, harley who i would only want her to team up with because it would be a fucking mess, dick who i want her to team up with because it would also be a fucking mess but in a different way (renegade arc part 2 but this time theyre both heroes so rose can annoy him even more), duke who i want to include just because i love him even though i cant imagine any reason for him and rose to interact, young justice who arent all gotham heroes but i want them to be around to temporarily absorb rose just for fun, and the entire arrowfam who have no reason to be in gotham but i just want rose to fuck around with them as a treat to ME

as for slade. i think that their relationship is best written when it is really complicated for her :) so i need her to fall back into the cycle of going to him and looking for his approval and being constantly disappointed and angry when he refuses to give it to her :)

anyways ARCS. i dont have a lot of specific ideas for arcs besides another arc of rose giving up the name ravager (bc it didnt fucking stick last time), an arc making her a lesbian (stop booing me im right) and maybe an arc of rose killing slade then immediately spiraling about it bc :))))) yippee :))))))))))

are you a show fan who's learned about how terrible the MCU did moon knight and you want to check out the comics? did you see him in a teamup book and want to know more about him? are you just looking for more comic recs? are you just interested in the character? then you're in the right place!

okay, to begin, i want to say that this is a character that has had a... varying history. there are no moon knight comics you can enjoy without extensive criticism. critisizing the things that you enjoy is good and gives you a better understanding of the work. please do not idolize any of these comics and please work to be kind to the many minorities (jewish people and systems, primarily, but classism, racism, xenophobia, and homophobia are all explored throughout MK's publishing history) that these comics represent. anyway.

MOON KNIGHT 1980 -

tws - doylist racism (racist villainous charactictures, mostly. a lot of this), ableism (outdated terminology for systemhood, occasional slurs), and sexism. extensive discussion of anti-semitism, specifically neo-nazism, in issues 37 and 38.

what happens - moon knight 1980 is a 38 issue comic book centering on the ex-mercenary and now hero moon knight. almost entirely episodic but there are occasionally multi-issue stories.

moon knight, in the day, is the millionare socialite steven grant, and, at night, the hero moon knight- moon knight also "uses" jake lockley as an informant. marc spector was the mercenary moon knight ran away from. doug moench was NOT intending to write a system at this point- steven and marcs relationship is meant to represent one mans struggle with guilt- but its really really easy to gel this with their current situation of being alters in a system and also some of the specifics of their whole thing make me fucking insane. jake is also there and i love him even if he isnt really a major part of the moral conflict

please dont read all 38 issues- attatched is a list of my personal ratings. everything later calls back to this so its best practice to read it first but its very much a slog if you arent already attatched to this character so make your own choice

nothing from 1980 to 2014 is particularly good (you can read it if you want but i havent) but knowing what happened is pretty important to understanding the later modern runs so a runthrough. throughout the 90s mk continued in the 80s status quo but in 2006 he 1. cut off bushmans (remember that guy from 1980?) face 2. was given a tendency for violence and and 3. became significantly more tense with marlene and frenchie. by 2014 they had completely fallen out. thats all we can continue with the recs now

what happens in it - the first six issues are the warren ellis/declan shalvey run, which is what im reccomending. read the rest if you want, its mediocre but i like it

moon knight 2014 is 6 episodic issues centering on a now alone marc spector. steven and jake only show up twice, both lineless appearances in the back of panels. most of the issues are significantly more violent, dark, callbacks to old 1980 issues. most of the run is silent violence from marc but all of the stories are really good and the art is breathtaking.

MOON KNIGHT 2016 -

tws - unreality. mental hospitals. both doylist and watsonian ableism.

what happens - i am reccomending the lemire/smallwood + co run, the 15 issues before the numbers shoot up. i have not read the bemis run.

moon knight 2016 is 15 issues situated in a hallucinatory version of NYC, following moon knight as he struggles against khonshu's attempts to possess him. the thing is a lot of things in 2016 piss me off so i cant exactly sing its praises but its super important to modern moon knight so just. slog through it. highly reccomend reading after 1980 because it refrences A Lot.

MOON KNIGHT 2021 -

tws - violence, discussion of anti-semitism in issue 5.

what happens - i am reccomending the first 16 issues. the annual sort of triggered a falling off for the series and so i have not read after #16. read the later issues at your own risk

moon knight 2021 follows moon knight as he opens the midnight mission, gains multiple new side characters, and reckons with the consequences of the age of khonshu (an event in jason aarons avengers which is explained fine in 2021 so you dont have to read it). most of the series is typical action juxtaposed with MK's SHEILD-ordered therapy sessions. issues 14 and 15 are possibly the first time jake and steven have been written well since 1980. unfortunately, the annual is deeply xenophobic (villianizing the only romanian hero in marvel) and i have stopped reading the series due to this. the first 16 issues are really good though

MOON KNIGHT BLACK WHITE AND BLOOD -

tws - violence.

what happens - mkbwb is 4 issues consisting of 12 noncanon moon knight stories, as is typical for bwb series. most of them are pretty good and fun and also really pretty.
