energetically modified cement sounds so fake.
essentially, it boils down to: the solution to drastically reducing the carbon emissions of the construction industry? shake the cement really hard with some balls.
and it reportedly works??
#cement. why are you like this.#anyway i'm still reading up and stuff but essentially the principle is to use a special milling technique#wherein the cement is tumbled at high speeds with some hard balls that manage to knock the crystals in the cement out of order#so the cement now has imperfections at the molecular level#this makes it amorphous (non-crystalline) which in turn makes it much more reactive#(since cement likes being in the form of perfect crystals and would be less likely to react and lose that structure if it's used like that#(so we break it up and now it's like 'ugh fine i'll react i guess')#which is good news because if cement is more reactive then using a smaller quantity of cement will produce the required strength#and cutting down on the amount of cement is v good because the manufacturing of cement is the step which releases the most CO2#so now we can just make less of it#and hence produce less CO2#placeholder tag#i still have a lot of questions about how it works though#like which crystals it's messing with and how. specifically what it does to C2S#because it would be really cool if we could make that react faster. faster C2S reaction -> we can lower the C3A content ->#produce cement at a lower temperature using less fuel AND produce less CH in the concrete after hydration ->#make reinforced concrete more durable and less likely to have corrosion in the steel rods!
