Okay, this is a cross-blorbo thought I've been having that kinda crystallized when I wrote the "Please don't go" prompt. There's gonna be a cut, cuz uh. Of course there is ^^;

So one of the things that has been rattling in my head is that Minthe and Rowan don't like people they don't understand. Rowan is better at trying to understand people while Minthe will just dismiss the person and move on with her life.

This ends up biting Minthe in the ass cuz she doesn't really like Ras at all (she does not try to understand him and he does not offer her any enlightenment [at least at first?]) but they're part of the same friend group. So this is always in tension between them. The only real time they agree is when the Convocation reveals its plan for Zodiark and they both react with disgust.

And thinking about it, Rowan has very similar feelings towards Estinien at the beginning. She finds him to be a primadonna as the Azure Dragoon (especially by taking the Eye of Nidhogg and claiming that the two of them could slay one of the First Brood together). She starts turning around towards him once he shows disgust at the Holy See continuously throwing soldiers into the meat grinder and not killing Ysale outright when Alphinaud suggest they seek her out. They have an odd friendship, all things considered, but the Azure Dragoon can relate to the Warrior of Light rather handily.

The next real lack of understanding moment is with Zenos. Minthe is a hedonist, but she tries to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. Rowan is probably too responsible to be considered a hedonist (or more like too busy to really enjoy herself that much), but she does notice the little things and she enjoys what she can. So having a guy who's like "I only have enjoyed one thing and I will burn the world to get it again" is so bizarre and antithetical to the both of them that it brings out the worst in Rowan (and it brings out Minthe a bit as well).

Then meeting Emet-Selch in Shadowbringers really fucks Rowan up. Cuz Minthe, despite how things ended between her and Hades, understood him. I need to put the line "We built our souls together, you and I." somewhere cuz lordt. Rowan wishes she didn't understand him. She finds Solus zos Galvus to be utterly despicable, but as Emet-Selch reveals what happens... she gets it. She gets the desperation of trying to save a world. It's that same desperation that drives her to save hers. The bit at Ultima Thule is really one of the lynch pins to Rowan and Hades' relationship. "The future you seek is not the past we loved. That is why we fought. And that is why I lost." He could have said that to Minthe too, honestly.

Then Hermes. The part that separates Minthe from Rowan in their view of Hermes and Meteion is the bit of him not wanting to bind her to the earth, of not having her walk. Minthe would understand that and wouldn't want to put that on others. She would have been mad that Hermes more or less sent an eight year old out into the unknown without peer review, but that would have been based on her technical knowledge rather than concern for Meteion. But Rowan has lived in a much more broken world than Minthe and Hermes. To Rowan, she sees Meteion struggling to walk alongside her creator and is upset that instead of trying to support her in the world she lives in, he's flinging her out towards the unknown. At this point in her life, Rowan recognizes that it's through the help of her friends that she's grown as strong as she has. And Hermes is denying himself and Meteion that strength by isolating the two of them in Elpis. Amaroutine society likely wasn't helpful in that regard either, but... there's no way he was the only adult person to have an existential crisis.

This is now completed and I'm just so happy people like it! Thank you to everyone who's read it and commented and said nice things!! It took me a long time to write and I think it might actually be the best thing I've ever written.

The City Never Sleeps [Ao3] Lestat/Daniel Chapter 1/3 (all are written but I'm still editing the last two) Chapter 1 is 3252 words Summary: Daniel arrives home at Trinity Gate but only Lestat is there, having arrived to find the place empty. Since Armand won't be back for a few days, it's up to Daniel to entertain him. So they hang out, have discussions (serious and otherwise), and even make out a little. It's Lestat and Daniel hanging out, what more do you need to know?

Excerpt:

“This is Armand’s room, isn’t it?” he asked.

Daniel rolled the suitcase inside. “It is.” 

Lestat raised an eyebrow. “Surely he wasn’t so stingy as not to provide you with a room of your own.” 

Daniel snorted. “My room is next door. But I pretty much live in here.” Daniel appreciated having his own space but he saw no reason to use it much. He’d been forced to have a separate room for nearly a decade while he was mortal. Now that he was a vampire, he had no desire to sleep apart from Armand, who didn’t seem to mind. 

Lestat surveyed the large room, with its king size bed, sitting area, and fireplace. The shutters had already automatically closed on the large picture windows. “What if he wants to take another lover? I know what he and Louis get up to.” There was an edge there in his words. Jealousy? Or merely frustration? Daniel wasn’t sure. 

“Sometimes Louis sleeps in here, too. Sometimes they go into Louis’ room. Sometimes I actually use my own bed. What difference does it make?” 

Lestat smiled wickedly. “So you merely lay there while your maker is intimate with someone else?” 

Daniel shrugged.

togame jo cannot find it in him to refuse when you ask him to accompany you to your friend's city. just as their city is known for the violence and suspicious activity surrounding it; the one you’re currently in shines in contrast— infamously known for inhabiting so many students, the night never comes there, all the places and activities are for those with a young blood.

and you look so happy! giggly and giddy, rushing left and right after your friend as if pulled by them, and dragged by your hand thightly latched onto his, he follows in cue.

it's only the second day and already three in the morning, the streets have gotten quiter but there are still people here and there, he notices. you and your friend shout a bunch of letters in unision, the name of a club? perhaps. he has lost track a while ago already, his attention solely on you.

"come on, jou–" you drag your words, "it'll be fun! just a couple a' drinks an' moving around." "i could really do some moving around." one of your friends interrupts and he can hear it in the poor bastard's noise, they mean it literally, body aching for a good stretch after an entire day of exploring, eating and drinking.

The city is too loud and fast for his preferences but he manages alright, your arm pressed to his side, grounding him before overwhelming sensations can take over.

he obliges without a word, your assurance silent yet clear in your eyes already. when it gets too loud, the lights burning up or the people a bit too much, the two of you just can excuse yourselves and dip out for a bit. it doesn't help his case that all the songs are somewhat dirty, and you are dancing right behind him, so close yet so far away, body barely brushing his. In your element, in your own bubble, unbeknownst to anything else surrounding you; be it the others dancing together, eyes of strangers’ watching the lot of you or how you’re slowly driving his resolve up to a wall.

you mumble something about going to the bathroom and he follows in tow. what self restraint he barely had left is all bu vanished by the time the clear night air hits– early morning? the nights have been of lighter color for the past weeks, and all he can focus on is the chill air and your warm body pressed against his.

"quite the interesting songs you were dancing to." he leans in with a loopsided smile when you look a bit better to stand on your own, balancing himself with one arm against the wall and you right before him.

"really?" your voice comes low, "haven't noticed." you lie with a smile, leaning further into the wall.

"if the offer still stands, i'd like to take my chance." togame says, slowly dragging his free hand by your waist. he really hopes he heard the lyrics right in the midst of all that, else, well, it's not like you'd poke fun at him forever for it, but the embarrassment would stick with him for weeks.

letting your eyes close at the sension his hand creates for you, you focus on his touch– soft, faint and burning. when you meet his gaze, you are smiling, looking at him in a way he can only describe as sultry.

"for you? always."

as soon as the words leave your mouth, he closes the distance in an instant, lips latched onto yours, body pressing you further into the wall until there is no space left.

So time to ask about my side-character favs. Clearly Chloé is still richie-brat, but we have Queen Bee. So What flavor of her do we have? Also, how is my best doggo Sabrina doing?

ALR SO-

Chloe does start off as a Richie-brat, but overtime she becomes more sympathetic. There are multiple examples in the AU where she shows she has a heart;

She saves Sabrina during an akuma attack in her hotel

She’s consistently there for Adrien and does things in his best interests

She recognizes Marinette’s kindness

She semi-comforts Marinette ONCE after a Luka misunderstanding

She compliments and tries to calm an akumatized Sabrina

Backs Marinette in her accusations and suspicions against Lila

Acknowledged Marinette’s talents in fashion design

She actively tries to change her behavior towards others after being given the bee miraculous

And more!!

Once Marinette and Adrien start dating, they become official “frenemies”! Marinette doesn’t ever really get over Chloe’s ego, and Chloe still thinks that Adrien can do better but is willing to respect his wishes if it means he’ll be happy.

Queen Bee isn’t permanent in my AU, but she’s very dramatic and showy, like she’ll do flips in the air like an aerial dancer for the news cameras, strike poses and does lots of things for attention. She loves the spotlight so Ladybug is a bit salty when she is getting all the attention.

It’s not like she’s a bad partner, but her ego does get in the way of actually taking down the akuma, and she doesn’t take orders very well, especially if it doesn’t end in her being the one to save the day.

AND FOR SABRINA:

Sabrina does have a mean girl streak, like Chloe. She’ll aid her in her bullying and use her phone to cyberbully. She is the top ballerina at a prestigious dance school as well. So even though she’s much quieter than Chloe, the girls in her class know her to be perfect but condescending. She is also compliant/encouraged Chloe in her bullying and bad behavior (doing her bidding, offering ways on how to bully, etc.) and definitely entices gossip and drama for her own amusement, or for Chloe’s benefit. But she also has a heart too;

she cares about Chloe deeply, is always there for her when no one else is, and

is able to interpret Chloe’s emotions to other people when Chloe can’t do it accurately herself

Didn’t run away from an akumatized Chloe and instead insisted on helping her

Skipped school to stay with Chloe after a traumatizing birthday party

Recognizes when things REALLY goes too far and feel guilty about it, maybe even apologizing in her own stuck-up way.

Sabrina is aware that she doesn’t have a good relationship with her mom (Only Adrien knows the terrible details), but she’s Chloe’s best friend for a reason.
