WIBTA for ghosting someone in RP?

This is a very chronically online problem, I'm aware, but I could use Tumblr's input. This is kinda long, so tl;Dr at the end.

So I (ftm), Z (nb), and O (f) (ages unimportant, but we're all adults) have a server for a shared fandom of ours. There are other people on the server too, but they're relatively unimportant to the problem.

One of the major channels to note was an rp channel. Things started off peachy keen! Everyone was having a grand old time! However, little problems started to pop up. O began introducing some ocs to the rp group chat, which, while outlandish for the setting (her ocs were ghosts from 1500's Minecraft Germany or whatever? I'm still not entirely clear since she's bad at continuity). And while I'm not against more out there ocs, the issue was how she used them, constantly trying to solve problems instantly. They felt more like MacGuffin's than characters. But whatever, she's our friend so we didn't really care.

Then, the racism incident happened.

It's a cool name, but sorta makes it sound more important than it was. Basically O had "monster form" at the end of each of her characters names, since apparently they had human forms too. Well, in an argument, a character referred to the group of ocs as monsters (since, how else would you refer to all of em at once?), and in one of her ocs replies they said smth like "oh btw thanks for the racist remark".

IMMEDIATELY in the ooc chat, Z and I both go "hey man, we're not playing the racism game", which... caused O to leave the server temporarily. Fun.

The relevance of the racism incident is to show why we can't just talk to her ooc about the upcoming issues.

((Very offhandedly she also keeps trying to pressure Z specifically into rping? Even though Z has made it clear many times this month that they are busy with the holidays??))

Anyways, time passes and O keeps wanting to tack on useless shit to her characters (both canon and ocs) for literally no reason. From "Bruno esk powers" to "shapeshifting genitals", it just felt like feature creep.

Eventually this comes to a head when she asks if her 32 year old character could be a WWII veteran.

You know. In the text chat based rp where characters use hashtags and emotes and talk about Twitter.

After a small back and forth between Z and O in the ooc chat, Z just kinda, gave up. Part of the reason they made the server was to transfer their previous rp writings to a server they own, so they don't have to worry about it getting deleted. (Before anyone assumes Z is just being strict, trust me. Z had been very accommodating with letting me and O make inputs and have our characters make an impact. This wasn't an issue of O's lack of control, but rather lack of care about the setting.)

Z admitted in a group chat with just me and their partner that they basically are just going to give up on their previous rp, and just let O do whatever she wants.

This really, and I mean REALLY, ticked me off.

Now, I will not start a ruckus about it on the server itself since I know Z hates confrontation, but now I've just settled on to give O the cold shoulder in rp, not replying to her ocs, barely interacting with her canon characters, etc.

I feel like in character I have a valid reason to ignore her (her ocs made one of my ocs upset, and my other characters are upset for him), but I can't tell if this would be too mean?

ALSO quick little note I forgot to mention above, but it's basically just the three of us in the rp chat, so with Z busy for the holidays, I'm the only other person who O would be able to rp with, if that impacts the vote.

TL;DR - Someone in a rp server is being a right ass and we cannot talk to her about it without potentially starting a huge fight, now I want to ignore her in rp. WIBTA

How many works do you have on AO3? 9 (technically 10 but we orphaned one of them out of shame)

What’s your total AO3 word count? 99,978 (mine) + 7,531 (shared) + 9,991 (someone else's) = 117, 500 (total)

What fandoms do you write for? presently, Carry On but back during my high school ff.net days I did some Percy Jackson/Heroes of Olympus (Percabeth and some separate OCs), Alex Rider (OCs), The 100 (as an elaborate prank), Harry Potter (literally just a My Immortal parody), and Divergent (OCs) and if they weren't oneshots they were never finished.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? YES! I'm currently behind on my replies, but it's so fun! It's like a book club but for stuff I created!!???? Shit rocks. I fully didn't expect anyone to read IKABIKAM (my first fic on ao3) when I first published it and so every comment still feels like a miracle.

Have you ever had a fic stolen? No.

Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes! I love collaborating because it gives me something to bounce off of. A scene partner. A ticking timer. It's like lifting a heavy object by yourself versus getting someone else to bear some of the weight with you. It's easier. I also find myself constantly seeking collaboration with other people even with my solo fics. I'm all up in those DMs pestering people both as motivation and as external processing. And by GOD, do you fuckers have some good ideas. Y'all make me exponentially better.

What’s your all-time favorite ship? SnowBaz but also in a very real sense...Percabeth. (You never forget your first.)

What are your writing strengths? I got my start with rping, so dialogue is really comfortable for me. I also think my training in other art forms (dance, music, theatre, film, academia) positively influence my approach. When writing action, I often mentally frame it as 'blocking' the scene or 'choreographing' the movement. When crafting sentences, I'm constantly evaluating the rhythm and rhyme and repetition (not to mention alliteration) as if it's a song, always searching for the perfect word or metaphor. I also listen to actual songs and pull the emotion from them, using them as character studies or a musical soliloquy. I imagine shots and then write what I see from the perspective of a director explaining the actor’s motivating thoughts. I constantly revisit my thesis, grounding the narrative in callbacks and a cohesive structure like it's an academic paper. And all those things combined create this kinetic cause and effect style I'm really proud of and tangibly improves every time I write something new.

What are your writing weaknesses? I do not have a firm grasp on proper grammar. I'm also really slow and inconsistent with my output because my process is so physically disorganized and meticulous which often frustrates me. I'm also impatient. I don't do wholesale messy drafts; I edit as I go and when I'm done I want it published immediately. I also fall victim to the white room syndrome with physical descriptions. Establishing shots? Don't know them. What a guy looks like? What they're wearing? Sorry, I haven't told you because it felt weird to jam in there. Outside of fanfiction, I also struggle with creating something from nothing. I'm a theologian rather than a god. I much prefer playing in a sandbox and exegeting meaning from someone else's grunt work rather than conjuring the wood and the sand myself. My writing is also incredibly referential to pop culture which I'm not sure would translate outside of fanfic, but I guess I'll cross that bridge if I ever get to it.

The moment I saw @spashahoney's sketch, Team 66 LAUNCHED to the top of my list. I am so lucky to have been matched up with her as my partner!! She is funny, creative, encouraging, and I loved when we fed off each other's energy! I am truly proud of what we created and sincerely hope we continue to work together in the future <3

It was very fun knowing I wanted to partner with her even when I wasn't allowed to say XD

We were a dream team from the start and I'm not afraid to brag about this fact.

We were so chaotic and I had so much fun bouncing around with her talking transformers and about her concept for our collab!

I was also so, so very wrong about how much I planned to write for this fic XD

500 Word Writer Awards

We were challenged to write 500 words for a secret prize and suddenly every last block I felt that was preventing me from starting to write DISAPPEARED. I wrote 632 words and suddenly felt like I could do this🙂

That was the start of something I kinda knew but FULLY REALIZED over the past few months...that I am so, so, so easily motivated with prizes. It takes minimal effort on the prize giver's part. Reflection.

Why did you pick up writing? - I picked up writing around the same time I picked up drawing. It was just something I kinda always did on instinct, I gotta thank a lot my cousins for putting up with me being my first beta readers. But honestly it was mostly do I could make my own fun with my characters. Do you have any writing routines? - I fear I am a very in the moment writer. I've tried all my life to change it but if I'm not feeling it it's not coming. (Yes, I did suffer a lot writing my thesis how could you tell?) However, when I'm in the mood I only have two options, either I write a thesis and two books in one setting or I write one paragraph that satisfies the urge and call it a day. There's no in between. What's your favorite part about writing? - Character exploration. Love to put to words the gremlin's thoughts and explore the living hell out of everything they do, think, own, feel. Every little detail offers so much, a gesture, a pause, a glance, it's so telling I love it. And well, breaking them in too, I don't mean this in a literal sense, but more so, in putting them in challenges (good or bad) that put to test their foundations and see what comes of it. Let's get that inner development!!

Three things you like about your writing.

One. Oh man this isn't really something I think about? I just kind of go with what comes to mind at the moment. I guess I like the simplicity? I try to go for something that's easy to read through and get the gist mostly cause I know a lot of times my writing can come off weird by trying to put to words what makes sense grammatically in one language for another. Two. I'll be very honest I am coming at a blank here. Maybe the length? I know it's stupid to like lengthy replies but i'm a yapper by nature and I guess that also translates into writing which I don't mind at all. A lot of times I have to slap my wrist over length and erase a few paragraphs cause there's no need to offer that much info for something small, I wish I knew how to be short and concise but alas. Three. How direct it is? I could go and try to double read or rewrite stuff but honestly the less i think about it the better it comes off. So all my replies are first tries. I do sometimes put some previous structure to it so i remember what i wanted to go for but in the end, whatever comes out is what i was telling myself at the moment without thinking too much.

When life throws you lemons, and gets you down, does writing become something that you're drawn to as to get you through it, or do you feel like it does the opposite?

This heavily depends, I have used writing and rping to work through bad times before, it helped me as much as it damaged me but then again it's not like i had much choice back then. Nowadays I rather keep it at arms length. As much as I feel that it could help, this is supposed to be a hobby I enjoy, if i come with a spoiled mood to it, it'll ruin the fun. I will look at what I wrote and be reminded of what I was going through rather than whether I enjoyed it or not. Specially if I'm going through a very rough time, as it has happened before.

Tell me about your favourite roleplay experiences ! what was a thread that you really enjoyed ?

I don't know if anyone here knows what IScribble is but it was one of my first rp spaces where i rped both in writing and drawing. It was genuinely fun, met one of my irl best friends there and we kept rping through MSN with OCs. Despite the obvious cringe plots/ideas and very, very bad english, it was one of the most fun i have ever had rping where we started with two ocs and ended up crafting a whole entire community and lore surrounding them. And of course, ended up with a life-long friend.

Thread wise though, it has to be back on 2017/18 when i was rping in a Firefly themed closed rp group. Since it was closed, all our characters had to personally know each other and their stories merged together on the ship, during one of the events there were huge breakthroughs in a significant character relationship that still lives rent free in my head cause it was completely spontaneous. We had nothing planed except that they were acquainted from a mission before boarding the ship, all else that transpired was just pure back and forward jumping on the characters reactions to each other and it was -chefs kiss- We ended up having a lot of fun before the rp shut down and we all moved on with life (mel from hell if you're out there love ya! sol to my sid & jane to my petra)

Where are you from? What is your time zone? i live in colorado and my timezone is MST

How long is your roleplay experience? i don't know exactly how many years since i sometimes have years where h don't rp but i've been rping on and off since i was 11-12.

How were you introduced to roleplaying as a whole? oh gosh, so ff.net used to have (maybe still has, i literally have not been on that site in ages) these like... forums? and i joined one for elder scrolls rp a little after oblivion came out. i was far and away the youngest one there but everyone was so nice in helping me turn my character into a proper oc with like... backstory, a real personality, etc. after that, i spent a lot of time using it to try and grow my creative writing skills.

How were you introduced to TOA? honestly i just stumbled across it randomly! i had just replayed a few fe games and was looking through some tags and thought it might be fun to try fire emblem rp (i'd done some on indie tumblr back in the day, as well as in an mfrp a little bit, but never fire emblem exclusive rp) so i sent arden to check it out and, well, here we still are.

Do you have any pets? simon (mini poodle), john hancock (tabby cat), and tim & geeb (fluffy black cats)

What is your favorite time of year and why? (Season, holiday, general period) early spring! i also like late fall for its temperature, but i dislike snow/sleet/wet socks so spring is preferable because it's not very snowy here!

How did you get into Fire Emblem? friend's cool older brother was playing a bunch of the games in a seemingly random order. when i'd hang out at that friend's house sometimes we'd sit and watch. i asked him to lend me some and he did!

What Fire Emblem games have you played? i have now played all of them! (last year when i answered this i hadn't technically played them all, but i'd seen playthroughs and watched let's plays of all of them at the very least)

First & Favorite Fire Emblem games: a bad translation of fe4 was first, por is still my favorite—but tbh there's not really one i dislike

Favorite Fire Emblem class? i like shapeshifter classes! beasts, dragons, laguz, etc. i just think they're fun to play with

Would you be playable? oh gosh, i'd be an infantry axe unit probably. middling starting stats but high growths if you really work at making me good (there would be heated debates over whether the necessary time investment would be worth it)

Who was your first TOA muse? If you no longer have them, can you see yourself picking them up again? my first muse was m!robin and thankfully i am spared any temptation on picking him up as he is currently being written.

Do you believe you have a type of character you gravitate towards writing? (If you filled this out last year, has this changed in any way?) i'm kind of all over the place, aren't i? i like characters where i can poke at hidden depths but ones who aren't too closely guarded. i like characters who are shy, withdrawn, standoffish, guarded, etc. in some way but who open up when spoken to. i don't think this has changed since last year, i've been writing for a long time and kind of know my comfort zone.

Do you have characters or types of characters you don’t think you can handle writing, but wish you could? boisterous/loud and over the top characters always challenge me, but i've never really managed to make them work, which is a shame because i tend to enjoy lively characters!

What kind of scenes, situations etc do you believe you enjoy writing the most? (If you filled this out last year, has this changed in any way?) -i love writing threads where setting/scenery is a focus, where i get to sort of use the landscape as a bit more than set-dressing - i enjoy throwing my muse at characters who mistrust him for whatever reason, and like to explore the kind of slow, mutual understanding that comes from two people getting to know one another - i really just like putting him in situations in general, forcing him to socialize—he's a very withdrawn character so any excuse to have him meet new people is very enjoyable

Do you have any scenario in mind for your muse(s) that gets you thinking “man I hope I get to write this one day”? nothing specific! i have kind of an arc for him but it's loosely-defined right now

Favorite TOA-related memories? HAPPYLAND WAS SO MUCH FUN. sincerely i loved the interactions he had there <3

Present or past tense? i default to present, but adapt to what my partner prefers on this!

Normal size text, small text, no preference? small text, bolded dialogue. just easier for my eyes to take it in that way.

Got any potential muse delusions to share? 😉 oh gosh. i recently had to go down to just one muse because my health is not so good, but i will admit i already have a few delusions. if i can get myself back to a spot where i feel like i can write a second, someone may return.

In fact, since you mentioned it, I might as well do so now, so buckle in for the ride!!!

My HC (and this is partially me projecting my own interests on her because haha YES) is that Mei's an only child to her mom and dad.

Her mom's name, Xiu Yinyue Zhou. And actually, since I still remember my design for her, lemme just draw up something rq....

I haven't drawn her in ages, but this is Xiu! She's a relatively wealthy woman who's the director of an orchestra I've named "The Zhou Symphony", and she's good at it as well. A couple other things to know about her, Xiu is very, VERY strict on manners and politeness. She had Mei grow up in a good environment, and they lived comfortable lives, but she ensured Mei was never, EVER spoiled or used her good lifestyle to an advantage. She's very level headed to the point of coming off as cold, both to her advantage and disadvantage.

Xiu's also incredibly hardworking, having been orchestrating since she was in her 30s, and because of this, Mei got to grow up around the symphony and become friends with a lot of the members. She's good with the basics of most instruments and occasionally rents some from other countries/cultures to include them in her music, although she's a particular master with the er hu, piano, and violin.

Also, she's somewhat blind. Xiu has a genetic condition (that I hc Mei to also have) that causes her to grow incredibly sensitive to light as she grew elderly, and while she's not fully blind, she prefers to keep her eyes closed and navigate the world blindly because opening them for more than a minute at a time can be agonizing. The only real time she can see without pain is in pure darkness.

Next, we have Mei's dad. I never officially decided on a design for him, but the basics are glasses, bit of stubble, long hair, wheelchair, no legs below the knee. His name is Huizhong Zhou.

Huizhong, a former climatologist-now-house-husband, is almost the complete opposite from his wife. He's the one who gave Mei her kind and caring nature, and overall is softer spoken and much more shy. He has absolutely no problem letting either his daughter or wife speak up for him, coming off as a relatively quiet, supportive, almost meek man. He doesn't work, but he does enjoy keeping the house organized and clean, also assisting Xiu where he can with her symphony. And while Xiu is who Mei spent the most time with, Huizhong still had a heavy effect on her and is partially why she's also a climatologist today.

As for other family, Mei only knew her grandparents on Huizhong's side. Xiu's family- parents, a sister, and a brother- has cut Xiu off for not fitting into their traditional family structure and wanting to work, especially wanting to work in the music industry of all things, and also having a husband who's shy and meek. Huizhong's parents, who are much more progressive, were the only extended family Mei ever really had contact with.

Now the story stuff. This is only going off what I formed when I was RPing with her, and also I may miss some crucial aspects of Mei's story, so I apologize in advance. This will also have quite a few projections onto Mei that may deviate a bit from canon. (This is also from like over a year ago lol)

Mei's early life and childhood had her spending a lot of time around adults instead of kids her age, so she was socially awkward in school, but always excelled in math and science class. When she was younger, both Huizhong and Xiu had similar earnings, but Huizhong decided to take on a lighter workload to spend more time with Mei and let Xiu more thoroughly indulge in her career, like the awesome husband and dad he is.

The only times Mei was ever genuinely spoiled was through clothes- one of Xiu's friends, a seamstress (who may or may not be HC'd to be Jiayi's mom/relative), was happy to make all sorts of pretty outfits for Mei, so in a lot of family photos, Mei's dressed a lot more fancy than she dresses now, which I find pretty funny. Xiu didn't mind if she didn't dress formal, of course- Mei had to make herself look presentable and professional for school and dress pretty for family photos, but those're the only real rules. Xiu ensured Mei didn't let her comfortable lifestyle didn't become too heavy in her life, and Huizhong made sure Mei was controlled, compassionate to everyone, and stayed on top of her studies. Both of them were supportive in anything Mei wanted to do, although Xiu definitely wanted Mei to take over the orchestra. She grew to accept Mei wanting to follow in her father's footsteps instead, a decision made during the Omnic crisis.

Speaking of which.

Huizhong's lab was attacked during the crisis, an Omnic-led attack that led him to lose both legs, and a good deal of his colleagues (some of which Mei had also grown up). That part sent him into a bit of a depression for a while, and he didn't want to return to his job. Xiu worked harder so they could continue to live comfortably, and even during the Crisis, the location of her music hall where she mainly worked was able to go undamaged, mostly. Things for them all, while now slightly rocky (especially with Xiu's eyesight going) remained okay, although both parents grew a bit more protective of Mei. She didn't pay much attention to it, engulfing herself in both her work/studies and taking care of her parents.

She only really left for the first time when going to Overwatch. Neither Xiu or Huizhong were very happy about it, and fought back on it, but eventually relented. Not like they would be able to stop her even if they did.

So then the Cold Snap happens, and Xiu and Huizhong are understandably DEVASTATED. Xiu takes time off from the orchestra to try and get her daughter back, but to no avail. The two end up finding the families of other members of the Ecopoint: Antarctica team, and contacted them asking to work together to find their loved ones. Some families were willing to try, some weren't due to grief. Regardless, any attempts to find the team or bring awareness to the situation fell short, and Xiu buried herself in her work even more to forget. She grew a lot colder towards everyone but Huizhong bc of this. Meanwhile, losing Mei kind of solidified a hatred of Omnics and Overwatch to him. They had cost him his daughter and legs, and he grew very bitter towards the world in general. They only really had each other, and lots of tears were shed in each other's arms from the loss.

In canon storyline, I imagine the events after Mei comes back going one of 2 ways.

1. Xiu and Huizhong both pass away while she's in cryostasis. No serious reason, they just pass due to poor health. Mei learns when she escapes Antarctica about them passing, and visits their graves the first chance she gets. She inherits everything but the house and symphony (those go to family friends probably), but struggles to this day to decide what to do with everything else. Mostly bc I haven't thought that far ahead.

2nd option, and the one I used during RP, they survive and have a reunion with Mei. Yay! But Mei says she wants to go back to overwatch, and both Xiu and Huizhong snap. Not yay. They're FURIOUS. Like, they just got her daughter back, and now they think they're gonna lose her again, and don't understand why she's staying. So, Mei leaves, and contact is reduced to a minimum because her parents are incredibly bitter about her choices. Which is also why they don't show up for Christmas, bc they can't stand Overwatch and still aren't over the fight.

What's devastating is that all 3 of them want to make up. Mei wants nothing more than to have her parents back, but she knows she has to focus on the wellbeing of the world as it stands right now. Xiu and Huizhong both heavily regret everything they said during the fight with Mei, but aren't ready to apologize or open their perspectives. It's a really sad situation tbh. They all just want their family to be okay.

Once again, a lot of this is heavily ingrained in projection, headcanonizing, and possibly forgetting lore bc of RP. And there's definitely some irl facts that aren't super accurate in general (i.e.: Xiu's job), but I'm content with where my HC stands bc it makes me happy (and sad)

A Letter to My Greatest Creation

My dearest Hope,

It's hard to believe that you're twenty-five now. Hard to believe either of us are in our mid-twenties really. It's kinda wild, huh?

My memory is absolute garbage, but even I still remember the day I thought you up. Back when you and I were still in first grade; your name was George back then and you were my only friend. Imaginary, but still my one and only anyways. We grew up together and eventually you went off on your own adventures... at least for a bit.

I was eleven when you came back home, and you were twelve. February twenty-fourth, twenty-eleven. I can't remember if we had just moved or were in the process of moving, but you came home as someone different. You called yourself Rose now and said you were a girl and we were perfectly okay with that. Again we'd become best friends and you stuck by me as disaster after disaster (at least for a preteen) hit over and over again.

Eventually you wanted to go on more adventures, but this time you didn't want to leave me. I had grown up past the capacity to create imaginary friends, so instead you became a character on paper. Thanks to my fixations at the time, you ended up a little MLP OC-slash-SI named Hopeful Hugz and I couldn't get enough of drawing you. Both in-person and on Miiverse for the... honestly decent following we had on the Youtube Community Tab.

Soon enough I found out about Tumblr and saw people making art on here and actually writing their characters. I wanted to do that with you. Though when we first made hopeful-hugz, it was a personal blog. I had no idea how to start sharing you until someone introduced me to the idea or writing instead of drawing. That's when RPing first started and you gained a human form.

Your story became one with Chamyle's for the first little while, until the two of you split off from each other. You became a blonde, one-eyed telekinetic who still went by Hopeful at the time. We still grew together, we still learned and became stronger. We found family, friends, and lost the same things.

When the purge of twenty-eighteen hit, you and the cast weren't the only ones devastated. I eventually lost my spark and stopped writing here and on my sideblogs. You went into hiding, grieving with the others. All of us fled to Discord for a little under a year...

Then late twenty-nineteen... We decided to give it another shot.

You came back with me as Hope. Just Hope. You brought with you my second greatest creation; the aethers and nagete. It was time we finally showed them to the world. You started rebuilding- we all did...

And now here we are.

We started here when we were sixteen and seventeen, now we're twenty-four and twenty-five. You've come such a long way since your beginnings and have grown so much in that time. You've become such a wonderful young woman and have blessed so many people. I couldn't be more proud of a creator.

I know there's still so much for us to do and adventures for you to go on. The multiverse only grows like we do, after all.

best experience ? Just meeting people and having fun making jokes or breaking each other's hearts with angsty ideas. I'm very good at the latter lmao. I like when there is a good mix of solid writing but also not taking it too seriously so whenever I meet people that have the same energy, it is a great experience <3 I also just love reading the in-depth analysis that people bring to their muses because it shows all the love they have for them that sometimes canon just does not.

pet peeves / dealbreakers ? callout posts. I have never entertained them and I never will. If you have beef with someone or just generally a bad experience with them, settle it amongst yourselves or block them. It doesn't need to be a group affair. I also just don't like it when rping is taken too seriously. It's supposed to be fun so I shouldn't feel like I am walking on eggshells, ya know?

fluff, angst, or smut ? When I first started rping, I was into fluff, but man have I leaned into the angst of it all. I get mad at canon for ruining my faves' lives and then I proceed to double down like the hypocrite that I am.

HELLO!!

Reph is a ship that me and my boyfriend came across while rping post kh3. I'll try to keep my rambling coherent :)

There's a lot of conflict and comfort to find with these two. For example-

Memories— Ephemera was against the Dandelions losing their memories of before the war, but after seeing the pain that Player was in, he decided that it was best to erase their memories. Not all memories need to be kept. This contrasts with how I hc Repliku. Rep believes that all memories are important (even his fake ones Namine gave him), and doesn't believe that there's any reason to forget a thing. So this is a fun conversation for them to have since they're both passionate about their stance and give each other new perspective. (In me n my boyfriends au Ephemera had amnesia for a time, but Repliku argues that it's not the same as having your memories tampered with)

Dark vs Light— Repliku leans on the side of darkness, while Eph leans towards the light. And after what happened to Player in khux, Eph's distaste for darkness is stronger than ever. So when Repliku fights with darkness or encourages it, Eph is fairly unsettled (Player flashbacks.) It's another fun conversation for them :)

Explorer vs Hermit— Ephemera is a curios spirit and now that he lives in the present time, he loves exploring all the worlds! He's always out there, a new adventure a day. And the way I play Repliku is that he's not used to leaving the castle, so he stays at Hollow Bastion and rarely goes into town. A bit of agoraphobia (fear of going outside). So Ephemera will come home at the end of each day to tell Repliku a stories about the day, which eventually inspires Repliku to leave the world and see it all for himself.

World simulations— Repliku was born in Castle Oblivion, world simulation galore. He never experienced a real world until kh3, so the majority of his world experience is simulations. The same could be said for Ephemera! In Daybreak Town the worlds they visit are all simulated projections from the Book of Prophecies.

Broken Heart— Ephemera had a painful goodbye with Player, someone he was very close to. And he had to say goodbye to them forever while thinking that their feelings were never genuine. We like to hc that Eph had romantic feelings for Player. And with Repliku, his heart was literally broken by Namine when she told him to stop fighting Sora. So while canon could be totally different for Namine, we like to hc that she avoids Repliku out of guilt for her actions and thinks his feelings for her are not genuine because she planted those memories in him that made him care for her. So Repliku and Ephemera can relate to the feelings of a broken heart.

-It's not how they met in our rp, but I like to imagine that they met in the Keyblade Graveyard since they were the only two ghosts there. I wrote the first chapter on ao3

-Repliku has ptsd from white walls in C.O, so when Eph tries to introduce him to Scala it usually leads to hurt/comfort

-Speaking of, their fun mutual friend Lauriam/Marluxia :) also leads to fun conversations

-Eph and Blaine are like brothers in this au, so Blaine always acts as the protective older brother to Eph and antagonizes Repliku which is a fun side dynamic.

WIBTA if i incorporate an old friend’s oc into my oc’s backstory?

hi!! this is a more lighthearted AITA- i’m basically just gauging proper oc etiquette bc i have no clue if this would be rude.

i (18X) am a d&d player. have been for a long time! i started at 13, with a huge group of my friends. we didn’t get to play much bc there were so many of us, but it was a blast and i ended up loving my character, natphi (a classic tiefling bard) so much that she eventually became a standalone oc for me.

in-game, natphi entered the party alongside her friend, luca (a half-elf ranger), who was played by another one of my friends (18 or 19 X now, 13 at the time). we were baby gays, and natphi and luca had a really fun sort of will-they-or-won’t-they wlw best-friendship. it was a great dynamic, and we both loved drawing them together and discussing them and even rping how they first met over discord. it was a blast, and eventually natphi’s friendship with and pining over luca became an important part of her story and character to me.

however, by this point luca’s player and i were going to different schools and had dropped several friends in that group due to standard teen drama, so it was hard to keep in touch. we stopped talking a couple of years ago with no hard feelings- just a classic drifting apart over time.

natphi is still one of my most beloved ocs (we’ve been through a lot together) and i still daydream about her friendship and such with luca. it gets difficult when i want to draw her in any meaningful way, though. luca isn’t my character, and if i drew her and posted it i would absolutely link back to her creator’s instagram, but it feels really odd to make and post art of the oc of someone you don’t talk to anymore. i can’t go and ask them if they mind, because once again, we haven’t spoken in years.

i’ve been chewing on this dilemma for a bit, but an idea came to me as i started preparing to make natphi a character sheet for a oneshot i’m doing soon: i could make natphi’s relationship with luca a part of her backstory and come up with some tragic separation of them. it would work great with natphi’s current backstory and deepen her character motivations, so there’s no problems there. however, i still feel really iffy using a now-stranger’s character with mine, even if i were to only refer to luca as more of a vague ghost than a full character. part of me feels like i’m “copying” her and just changing bits and pieces so she doesn’t look exactly the same. technically, nobody would actually be able to tell unless i told them, but i’d still feel like an ass for doing it if it’s “cheating,” for lack of a better word. however, i also know i’m a chronic overthinker, so i’m asking all of you instead: would i be TA for this??? i genuinely have no idea. thanks in advance for the input! ^^

2. What's your oc's orientation? (Romantic/sexual/platonic alterous ect) Do they have opinions about it?

Merry is a polyamorous bisexual! They only recently learned they're poly, and they still haven't explored that part of themself that much just out of general nervousness (and also being busy all the time)

Kittie is a polyamorous lesbian! She used to consider herself pansexual, but then figured out after a couple of dates that she wasn't really into men and more fell for women.

3. How did your oc discover themself? Did something cause them to question, or did they always know?

I don't really have an answer for Kittie yet, so I'll answer just for Merry.

Around Merry's teen years on the surface, they started to feel more and more uncomfortable with their father calling them "boy". Their brother at the time helped them to figure out what their discomfort was about, and Merry started to identify as a partially-closeted transgirl.

It was only after the death of their brother and their arrival in the neath that they questioned themself again. Their identity as a trans woman felt still uncomfortably attached to their brother, since he was the one to help them come to terms and helped them find a new name. As they started to learn more about people in London, they found others who used other pronouns than she or he, and people with identities they had never even considered or known about because of their strict upbringing. Eventually their exploration brought them to changing themself and finding a new identity in the neath. Opening themself up to new relationships and finding out they were bisexual, as well as changing their gender once more.

They found themself latching onto they/them pronouns, but they still could not bear to give up the name their brother gave them.

5. How did you figure out your oc's identity?

Merry's identity was pretty much there from the start, since I already knew I wanted them to be bisexual and nonbinary.

Kittie though, she changed over time as I figured out her character. She was a woman from the start of making her character, but it was a short while afterwards that I settled on making her a trans woman. Her sexuality took longer to figure out. I originally had her as pansexual and then that changed to lesbian and polyamorous near the end of the "name signed with a flourish" storyline (as well as through me figuring her out by rping her Friendcorp au version)

16. Did you ever change an oc's identity when they were already established? Why?

The addition of Merry being polyamorous was more fairly recent. I have friendcorp to thank for that! I went into that rp keeping them in the relationship they're in with a friend's oc in fallen london (luckily me and that friend already had a lobcorp au together, so it was easy to write it as that), but eventually their relationship with another character (Lychee/Lee) in friendcorp made me wonder if they'd be open to more partners. After talking with both my friends about their thoughts, we decided that Merry's current partner wouldn't mind, and we started working towards having Merry and Lee get in a relationship.

And then that increased more as Merry got closer to other characters as well.

And, of course I transferred their being polyamorous in that au to their original self (just writing it as Kittie introducing them to the concept and making them realize something about themself)

i've been rping since 2011 and only on tumblr. back in the day there were these disney rps that were very chill and there were no fcs, you played only as the animated version of your character. there was no plot or anything in these groups, but they were fun. then one day i was scrolling the disney rp tags and came across a disney rpg that my gf had made and it was the first time i was seeing a disney rp with fcs so i was excited. i played tink and my gf played peter and that's how we met and now have all this extensive peter and tink lore. i played in so many rps as tink throughout the years that if you were in one there was a good chance i was there as tink. i wrote her for a while when i first discovered indie rp, but took a break for a bit. i went fully back into indie rp in 2017 and started writing nesta from aco/tar and she's my second longest muse i've written and i love her as much as tink.

women who people label as 'mean' and 'angry' when in actuality they have so hurt within themselves and have dealt with trauma, the pressures of society, and people letting them down to make them the way they are. they have so much depth and people are quick to hate them because they actually see so much of themselves within the se characters and they don't like admitting that. so it's easier for people to just label them as simply the mean girl. women with tragic backstories and have dealt with depression, grief, heartbreak, a toxic home life. it's therapeutic writing characters i relate to so i tend to gravitate toward fictional women i see myself in.

FLUFF : yes, but oddly enough being someone who enjoys romance and love i feel like i'm not the best at writing it. but i do want to write more of it tbh since a lot of what i write is emotional subjects.

ANGST : my expertise...you can even ask my gf.

SMUT : it's something i've enjoyed recently thanks to writing it on my hellverse blog. i think it's fun to write intimidate moments like that as well as the feelings during it. but with that being said i'm currently only comfortable writing it with my gf.

PLOT / MEMES : plotting can be hard for me bc i'm not a social person and i'm always nervous about how i come off to people. i like people coming to me wanting to plot BUT only if they have an idea of where to start, even if it's s/t small and we can build off of that. i don't like when people come to me and expect me to do all the plotting myself or come up with something on the spot. if i have an idea for our characters and we've been friendly with each other that's when i'll reach out for plotting. i love memes and they're my favorite, i think they're a great starting point for threads especially if we haven't written. which is why i have it in my rules to feel free to continue it as a thread and why when i reply i always leave it open ended so it can be replied to.

I'm on OJ and trying to fit in but it's NOT EASY. Clear they all know each other from somewhere and aren't super accepting of new people. All I see on OJ is smut anyway and I want actual plots.

I am on OJ and have written plenty non smutty plots. There are several friend and family requests up. Join one. 

If you are jealous just say so love. Posting anon makes you a coward and given the age range on these sites I know you are way too old for that shit. Legit nobody that I know of. Go make friends and put yourself out there. Keep in mind not everyone will be for you and that is fine. We are on the internet not in a room with these people. Most of the members have been rping for over a year together so it may not feel easy to reach out but I promise everyone is nice. I do not know a single person who would be like go away if you messaged them.

I am on the site ur on babe. I stayed even after hopping on over to OJ and I can say the vibes are 10/10 over on OJ when comparing both. Love both sites but this isn't cute and gives a bad rep to UP (cause it only makes sense that this is the site you are on)  that their members are over here tearing down another site and it's memebers. It is okay to leave a site that no longer serves it's purpose. It also SUCKS when you are on a site and every decent face has been claimed. Stay over there and enjoy your plots. Leave OJ to the people who actually enjoy it. You don't need to be negative at all. It's okay to move on from people who no longer serve you in life including RP partners. RP is a hobby and this is not high-school. Clearly some people haven't lost their mean girl/boy streak since then. Also on the other site NOBODY has reached out to me for plots like they do on OJ. I've had to be the one to reach out almost every single time to do or start anything. It's frustrating. As someone on three seperate sites each site works different for individual people. The people who left the other site left because they did not feel valued or did not click with it anymore. It's okay to do that and the fact people are whining about it is hilarious and frankly immature af. There are 10000's of jcink rp sites. This is not a compeition.
