I've been catching up on all my favourite bloodweave fics lately, which of course meant rereading Divine Losers, and something about that scene in chapter two when gale helps Astarion drink for the first time??? Yeah. That's all.

Thin lines aren't usually my thing because I always make it so messy but given that this is practically a sketch it was fun!! must experiment more

1. This was the photo reference I used. I really did mean it when i said he photographs well!! I really like how scrungly he looks at times lol. v paintable

3. Process breakdown below. I am not formally trained, so don’t take any of this as professional advice!! The way i paint has been compared to channeling some evil contract with a demon also. So um . Im saying that i dont remotely think that this is efficient or correct, its just whats comfortable for me <3

3a) the dreaded lining phase. I have 2 modes of operation when it comes to painting - either i go full-dick with fancy inking/sketching + cel shading (rare, unrefined, haven’t figured out a nice workflow yet) OR i do a very very basic chicken scratch set of lines like so:

It’s less about being realistic here and more about laying down some guide lines for the chaos ahead. If i thought i could get away with it, I would start every rendered painting i do with laying down colours — but unfortchh ive tried that before and it usually ends in really weird proportions. Even with the lines i still need to make adjustments. This is something no people except me would notice but look at the above sketch; the eyes are too big and slightly too far apart, the forehead is too small and thus the hair is also not quite big enough… I have a bad habit of drawing eyes too big on faces, they’re my favourite facial feature to draw.. i barely resisted giving him big cow eyelashes (I love big cow eyelashes… all of my OC’s and most of my more stylised fan art of characters get big cow eyelashes… god…. Big cow eyelashes SAVE ME……….)

Anyway. Structure of the face + hand somewhat established. <3

3b) Underpainting!! Okay stay with me here . Ever since i figured out i dont have to paint in 03925893853 different layers, I’ve joyfully painted on 1 layer as much as possible. I dont have the brain power all the time to be managing layers so I simply dont work with that many layers. For this painting, the skin in its entirety was painted on one layer, the hair on another layer, and the effects on the last layer. There was a placeholder background off-white/grey colour for a while there, and I duplicated the line layer — one for figuring out where to lay colours, and one hidden for later so i could check back to see how accurate to the sketch/proportions were to the actual painting. 6 layers, 2 of which i painted the bulk of the piece on, 1 more at the end.

3c) here’s where I started carving out features. I think about objects in terms of volumes and light rather than lines. i love painting and sculpting because of this!! Here you see where I’ve begun to define his features — his eyelids, his bags, his nostrils. Just refining what was there before. The suggestion of facial hair before i gave it up and left it for later (his face is so naked the WHOLE time)

3d) nose bridge highlight, suggesting his eyebrows, a cheek highlight. A touch more coral red and muted yellow pull away from the grey/blue underpainting. Strategically leaving some of it peeking through.

3e) i truly start messing with the fidelity of his features here. Red lipstick <3 and some violet/blue for shadows on the right side of his face.

3f) the part where it starts looking like q.hughes to me (though, my friend said i got his vibe pretty early on which is such a compliment.. waaaaa…..) I love this part of every painting i do. I know it’s definitely not the Correct order since other parts of the entire painting are simply Not Rendered or Done, but whos gonna stop me?? :3

I love love loveeee painting faces. Adding the little shinies to his eyes + lips + upper lip + nose … you don’t know how much of a difference it makes until you do it. Also i snatched his eyebrows

3g) i really pushed the red/coral/ochre/orange here. Note the yellow highlights on his cheekbones, the forehead, and the thin thin line of pink right between where his bottom lip ends and his chin shadow starts <- very important . To ME!!!!!!! Also highlighting his waterline and adding his lashes was so so fun <3

3h) FACIAL HAIR!!! And I started rendering his hand. Some micro adjustments made to his face for proportion check.

3i) i start painting his hair in earnest and realise his forehead is too small so i make the adjustment. I really love how it falls into his eyes in this photo. <3

3j) i make some final adjustments to his eyes — a bit smaller, closer together. And i refine the outline of his jaw, push the stylisation of it just a little.

3k) Finishing details; his flyaway hairs, his moles, a bit of texture on his face, shadows cast by his hair, his little forehead cut <3

3l) i adjusted his hand here, added more texture to his skin, refined his hair a tiny bit more, and made the decision not to fuck around painting his jersey because i wanted the focus to be his face <3

3m) Canucks blue and green. Captain at 23. His form bleeds into the background. He is the franchise.

theee most fun ive had painting anything. and i finally feel... warmed up? if that makes sense. art for me is like. if i dont do it in a while it feels like nothing goes right when i come back to it. i hate that feeling, and the most difficult hurdle to clear is letting myself feel that until i get back into my Zone. after all this time i feel like im BACK !!!!!!!

This is riding off the language stuff in sagau but I just cant get it out of my head a reader who uses tumblr slang every once in a while. like they meet the Traveller and they're like "Omg I'm so cheesed to meet you!!" And the Traveller is just like "???" meanwhile Paimon integrates that into her vocabulary. And then maybe at some point, if the reader has a vision they're like "MAIMING AND BITING YOU" "THAT'S IT! I'M SENDING YOU TO EEBY DEEBY!" while their poor teammates are so confused. Just imagine going over to ppl like Razor, Klee, Chongyun and going "Awwww my lil scrunglos"

Dark blue hair(omg pro hair and blue nouns /silly) they keep in a half up-do that consists of a bun, some hair out of the bun that goes down to the shoulders, and like 3 of those anime type bangs, the one where it's like 2 of them frame the face, and the middle one is just there in the face for whatever reason

Pointy ears, multiple ear piercings, one of which if I remember correctly is one of those ones that has the funky little chain thing that connects to a different piercing

LOL listen I find that the lore kinda just creates itself as needed. I know almost nothing about my OCs except their names, what they look like, and their general relation to my other OCs until I actually need to know more about them.

Writing about them just naturally causes the lore to show up! So of course there are some OCs I have a TON of lore for (*cough* Arrie *cough*) and others that have almost ZERO lore (*cough* half of the OC list *cough* sorry guys...)

Anyway, I love vampires! They sound awesome! I would definitely describe that as stubble, though I am not familiar with mha, I did a quick search and saw some pictures!

I have an original vampire story that's been stewing in my brain for ages... I always end up making all my vampire characters gay, too.

Anyway, I keep wanting to write that story but you know I'll get to it when I get to it lol!

I also really enjoy when vampires have religious symbols, so I think the upside down cross is a nice touch!

Pathaan Review

When the opening scene showed Lahore, Pakistan, my sister and I burst out laughing because OF COURSE. Bollywood making Pakistani Muslims the bad guys?GROUNDBREAKING! 🙄

I was a bit nervous because I thought the film would be super nationalistic and anti-Pakistan because I did NOT spend $30 to watch desh bakht shit. But I’m glad it wasn’t like that because so many films in this genre are. Like, stop fucking preaching and being annoying.

SRK was absolutely fucking delicious. Each look was better than the last. There’s just something about a dirty, scrungly looking man and he made me weak af. Watching Besharam Rang on the big screen and seeing him shirtless? Especially when he ran to Deepika’s room looking like THAT? Whew! I was literally feeling like a dog in heat lmaoooo

His hairstyle was giving off Eren Jaeger vibes 1000% and that’s all I could think about.

Pathaan’s backstory about Afghanistan was really sweet and wholesome. I love how they all helped him in the end, because I kind of had a feeling that’s what was going on.

John Abraham as Jim, oh my godddd. He was so sexy and played a great villain. I’m so glad he’s lean again because that super muscular, beefcake look he had going on for a few years was not attractive. I felt really sorry for Jim and what happened to him. It was understandable why he became a villain. I thought it was an interesting detail that he basically had no loyalty to any country and was doing it for a personal reason instead.

When John does that cute winking and smiling thing...my weakness

Deepika. Lord. That woman is a goddess. She was absolutely badass. I like that she played a Pakistani character and how just because someone from her country is bad, doesn’t mean everyone else is and she doesn’t consider his actions as something Pakistan as a whole is doing/agrees with. Basically that guy alone is an extremist and she would never condone his actions because she actually loves her country just like Pathaan loves his. The way the Besharam Rang lyrics literally described her character and motives, I was shook.

When she was like “Trust me, Pathaan” with those puppy dog eyes? I was like “BABY I TAKE U BACK!”

I think SRK & Deepika had amazing chemistry and the sexual tension! Especially when he was changing her bandages. Sorry girl, but I would have let Pathaan hit it.

I know this website hates a certain Khan but I really enjoyed his special appearance and the banter between Tiger & Pathaan. The Karan Arjun reference!!! Too bad it was spoiled for me by Reddit, ugh.

Dimple Kapadia was so stunning! I want to age like her. I cried when her character died.

The pre-credits scene of Pathaan & Tiger was absolutely fucking gold. It’s like, they were talking about their job as agents but also irl how they rule Bollywood and none of these hoes can reach their level. So meta.

Love how Pathaan said he was going to see his hairdresser to get shampoo but then stayed looking hobo af in the very next scene (the Jhoome Jo Pathaan song)

Overall, I really enjoyed the movie and it was great seeing my man back on the big screen after 6 years 🥰

The “not gonna end well” and “eroticism of attempted murder (exaggerated in this case lol)” comes from them when they first meet. They’ve got a weird beef with each other. Weirdly fixated, mainly Nex though. Roy is pretty chill. Nex starts antagonizing though and Roy has just Gotta take on the challenge.

Them: im just paying extra attention to him because I’m upset he wants Aisha. Absurd, he wouldn’t mesh well with her. I’ll show him.

Them later: I was right. I am upset he wants Aisha because it turns out I want him. He wouldn’t mesh well with her, he would mesh with me. I’ll show him.

In a weird homoerotic competitive limbo for a while, then they figure it out. Don’t really explicitly define what they are for a little while, but they’re together for sure.

Roy is devoted in a very tender and soft way compared to Nex, who’s more emotionally explosive and loudly declarative of his devotion. A warm and cool combo. Roy mellows him out some. Hand holding and flowers alone together vs grand gestures for the world to see and a hold on the others waist. They appreciate the ways the other shows they care.

That doesn’t mean they don’t still compete or take the other up on a challenge though. Playful competition. They push each other to be better and improve in all different aspects in life. I’m very fond.

For Daphne x Valtor, forgive me I don’t think I like Valtor in the same way as much of the fandom seems to.

I view him as slimey, manipulative, sadistic, power tripping, cruel. I love to hate him. I don’t love him in an affectionate “oh my scrungly hot Victorian” way I see a lot of others enjoy him.

I can’t imagine Daphne being interested in him. In canon, she didn’t meet him until Domino was attacked and her family and kingdom was under threat, if she saw him during the attack at all. I don’t vibe with her being into him with that context, not even in a forbidden fruit kind of way.

I can DEFINITELY see him being interested in her though, and that’s something I find simply delicious to explore and play with, especially because I don’t know how much of his interest would be romantic or just a vye for power.

The way he acted towards Bloom in canon always made me uncomfortable. Suave, confident, weird undertones of control and a want to hurt disguised in almost romantic gestures. If that’s how he is with Bloom, the youngest of the dead Dominion Royal Line and holder of The Flame, a holder who barely has a grasp on that supreme power, I can only imagine how he would be towards Daphne, a god bound in flesh, Supreme Nymph of Magix and Heir (a well owned title for her too, unlike Bloom, who hasn’t the skill nor the power in his eyes) to what was considered the most powerful Kingdom in all the magical world.

If they ever met before The Fall of Domino, it would be haughty laughs, snide comments, overconfident gestures, all met with steel and venom.

“Oh, little Nymph, how lovely of you to grace us with your presence on this fine morning. Do you have any plans before the meeting later? I can’t imagine you would say no to a walk with me.”

It’s been days of this. This Summit cannot end soon enough. Finally, she speaks to him directly.

Speaking of the profs scrunglies: i feel in an au were the profs and the villains switch places... Retired Prof Ghetsis harmonia w current professor Natural Harmonia and good friend Dr. Colress vs Team Plasma Sage Cedric, current queen/leader/ruler/IDK A and dubious scientist Fennel

I'm screaming because not only (assuming ur the same as last time if not sorry lol) have you been talking to me about profs but for this one especifically I want you to know I have actually thought of that au concept before!!! How are you reading my mind? Haha tbf villain prof swap aus aren't a new unique thing invented by me lol, I've seen it before! But so far mostly with Kukui and Guzma (back in the sumo days... seems it slowed down :( ) and one or two about Rowan and Sycamore. (curiously, while with the Alolan ones I saw prof Guzma, I haven't seen professor Cyrus and Lysandre I think?)..

I think the other profs (and villains too but I'm more into the professors..) deserve a swap au spotlight too... *slams fist in table* where is swap au villain Birch that wants to... idk, build a perfect utopia in the sky by invoking Rayquaza while he dresses in a very fashionable uhh pilot-inspired green suit?

But I digress:

First, I'll go over your idea: while we have the same swap concept we have some differences and that's exciting! I hadn't thought of professor Ghetsis being retired but I like the idea. N being the current professor is so good.. Isn't he like on his 20s? He'd make for a young, prodigy professor... While not bearing such a heavy weight on his shoulders as normal "soon to be king, no big deal" N Harmonia Gropius you could draw some parallels about him spearheading a new generation of professors and taking it super seriously...

Hadn't thought of Cedric especifically as a sage but I really like that concept, while I was sure he'd be related to Plasma I hadn't delved much into it.

Colress, I had thought the same! I guess he'd be in charge of the c-gear/dream world then?

You read me right with Plasma Boss/Queen(?) Aurea and "wanted in every region" scientist Fennel... That's the good shit!!! There are so many ways their characters could lend themselves to evil versions...sorry if I sound like the joker "bad day" discourse lol. Being fair, I'm still green with BW's story, learning about its world and progressing when I can, just now. (I didn't pay much mind to Unova back in its day...), so currently I'm not as versed on how would N, Ghetsis and (esp) Colress' characters work in these roles, but it'd be interesting to say the least! I think some traits of characters can be neutral, only being good or bad because the character acts like that.

Like say, Ghetsis would still be quite the ambitious fellow he is, but rather than world conquering it'd show with him having a big drive for his job. Perhaps he'd be more stern than Juniper, he seems more serious, but still charismatic, and concerned about the next generation carving their way, though more genuinely rather than kind of wanting them to be his mouthpieces.

I think N would still be adopted, a bit mysterious and more in home with pocket monsters than with people, however uhh he'd have an actually good dad here! (sigh.. poor normal N) we already see more of N acting nicer than Ghetsis so I imagine it'd carry over, albeit he might be a bit more open and free.

See, in my take on the au, Ghetsis is still the current professor, and his assistant and son, N, becomes your cool, older friend/rival. The aus (a bit divergent) "N figure" would be... Bianca! No, not because Juniper adopted her from the woods, but because she was a passionate, dissatisfied runaway teen in search of her identity (and a grudge w her dad) that decided to join Plasma, with nothing to lose, and she became one of Juniper's better soldiers. Idk it kinda reminds me of how Gladion joined Skull even though it def isn't the same lol?

Aurea, I imagine her looking pretty in a royal garb, perhaps a bit more knight/warrior queen inspired because I think she'd be a more active, less "in the shadows" figure than Ghetsis, maybe prefering to change people's ideologies by actions rather than campaigns idk.. This is indulgent. Maybe her hair is more elaborate or is free and resembles horns a bit like G's, food for thought.. She still has this archaeologist formation and maybe Cedric was the old plasma boss... And she has to be "better" AUGH. Maybe her aim is moreso dig into the legendary dragons origins/story to discover the truth and ideals.

See with aus like this, I wonder if some things'd stay the same or be changed, like... would Aurea's signature critter be Ghetsis powerful hydreigon or a wickedly strong cinccino? haha. Would Colress' dream world be less.. dream-themed and more, idk. virtual reality inspired or would he be your chill dream scientist?

FENNEL ! she already has enough canon material to imply a concern abt how herself or others see her ethics so I'm STOKED. I think she'd have a lot of potential as a villain.. dream yard smth smth. Tragic, even. Would she be involved with nightmares? Darkrai? Are she and Aurea still wives besties or work with eachother mostly for convenience?

Yeah, I really love sticking ironic humor to my characters, so Caliban is all about good, high quality meat products while also chopping up people to snack on later.

Since you bring it up—funnily enough, Caliban really doesn't like smoking as a practice. For one thing, bro needs to run fast in order to catch his targets. For another thing, smoker's lungs are all gray and nasty and probably don't taste very good, so it'd be a huge waste of meat.

You really got chills at the climax scene? That's so nice to hear! I've been working to try and make my writing creepier/scarier!

Ah yes, Mike and Ness are reunited...but only for a fleeting moment. Don't blame me: the easy happy endings just aren't as satisfying. Stories need action and fear and uncertainty all the way up till the end to really make the eventual happiness stick the landing.

As for why Caliban did what he did...well, he said it himself: He really can't afford to let Ness go until he captures Mad. Otherwise, he wouldn't have much to show for all of this. Ness was right about being able to help with this fiasco, so Ness is gonna have to keep helping until it's over.

Plus, Mad is now at least five times more on-edge than he already was, and that's going to make Caliban's goal even harder to reach. Mad won't just let Caliban get close; Mad needs to be baited into a trap. (Guess who'll have the honor of being said bait?)

Also, don't worry about Ness' coworkers at Sparky's: since I make the rules in the snippets, I'm gonna say that it'll still be very much dark out when Caliban and Ness (and MadPat) get there, so no-one else will get to watch shit go down. (Except for maybe a certain character or two, but we shall see.)

Abby is truly a smart kid, and picks up dangerous situations quickly when, especially when it comes to her brother. Unfortunately, that caused more problems to not only the Schmidts, but “Ness” as well, who isn’t really handling things well. Good things she’s able to make friends everywhere, so she isn’t alone of saving Mike and “Ness”.

Mike, take the hint and find out soon that he isn’t him, and save your family. (Also SURPRISE Jack is here too)

May I ask how you designed your scrungly Hyde? Did he come to you in a dream or was there a long complicated process? (Both are very understandable and valid lol) any particular traits you enjoy the most? 👀

God, I would love to make a chart and run through of my entire design for him because it goes back a lot… in short he is a pointer version of my Jekyll design but I don’t necessarily know where each piece is from. I can pinpoint a few (pulled from older male characters in feature films and later manipulated for either design) but likeee…. Idk. Especially with this new one. I have a concept for him-that I believe I’ve stated before- that the more “evil” he is the more shadow covers his body/face. I wanted him to always be a little (mildly) book accurate- then again I don’t really know what’s going on with him now? Is that his hair or is it shadow fur?? Who knows…

I remember in his earlier stages too: I thought it would be cool to give him horns or animal ears using his hair??So that’s part of the reason for that pointy fanned out design (it just got very toned down…) animalistic features also account for his eyes and fangs…NO ONE ASK WHY HES PURPLE/ BLUE… jk it’s to make him look pale and because while coloring I didn’t think anything looked good and then I realized blue looked decent and he’s just so grossly pale he comes off that way <3!

Top hat and coat are just for iconic or recognizable elements… and he’s thin with broad shoulders because that’s just how I interpreted him in the book…and when I’m lazy or feeling it I’ll draw him engulfed in a coat to big for him because I love the silhouette. Spiky hands because he’s evil…

I do know I’ve been looking for the exact origin of the shadow design because I found it strange that I couldn’t pinpoint it, and it came to me on a March afternoon. Tragic… however, other people seem to know where his design elements originate from better than me so please go off if you’d like??

Idk. I’ve started watching older CN cartoons this year and noticed he evokes lots of those vibes so for NOW I feel myself putting more of those in his design, though they still aren’t the origins… he looks a bit like aku from samurai Jack lol? Does anyone else see it help… I’ve never seen samurai Jack though- idk if my point is getting across but I guess my answer to your questions is: I just drew him like that cause I thought it was cool, and solved the issue of showing his face as a man who is unpleasant and indescribable.

P.S. he has sick side burns as of now and pointy ears which you cannot see…Faves of his design are his spiky hands and his figure HAA best to draw….

1. eddie kaspbrak OBVIOUSLY my fav character of all time… i could go on and on about him but idk he is just So Compelling and complex and the best ever and is also half of my favorite ship ever so that’s even more content of him to enjoy so there are some bonus points… but yeah eddie is awesome he’s so sweet and funny and brave and GAY and i love him. this is all book eddie btw. 1990s eddie i love u too & 2017/19 + rockwell eddie i also love but not as much sorry🧍🏻
