Apologies (mild 18+)
-- Karl Heisenberg X OC (AFAB, She/They) --
The 'part 2' to the small 'trilogy' of stories! The 'part 1' to this is Irritation. :D (I can't really say when 'part 3' will be posted, but of course it'll be added into the Masterlist when it is!)
There's still alot going on for me IRL, but I finally managed to do this... :'D I'm sorry if more entries take a while to upload...!
-----
*Warning?: Small regrets, aggressive speech, teasing, mild 18+ themes near end
Summary: Emelia doesn't really regret much, but seeing Karl's reaction to her words makes her hunt him down to apologize. But will he accept it? And how?
Tumblr media
It felt like hours had passed, and Emelia finally made her way back up to the higher levels of the factory once her work was complete. Her words had been stinging her brain, and she felt worse and worse as time went by. She purposely avoided certain routes and hallways to prevent any more potential Soldat run-ins while thinking. Would HE even want to see HER?? She wouldn't have blamed him if he didn't... Hell, for all she knew, she could be killed as soon as she walked in the room when she found him. And that was IF she could find him... Where he chose to hide away was always a mystery to her until she actualy found him. She had learned that the hard way after multiple 'family meetings'; the thought made her physically cringe.
She kept her eye open and focused, listening for anything that could have clued her in on his whereabouts. Humming, pacing, swearing or muttering in rough German, even scraps and pieces being thrown in aggravation. But, save for the noises of the factory, there was nothing. Silence, so to speak. Even as she took the elevator floor to floor. Even as she looked in any door she could find on the way up. Even as she searched through every hallways, eventually risking finding the Soldats in order to find him. This apology thing was truly eating at her mind, and she couldn't stand it... But she couldn't leave it alone.
It took her much longer to look for the man than it took a full working 'shift', she thought, enough so to where she almost decided to give up. She was tired... She was exhausted. She was exhausted, and despite her initial irritation having lessened, a new irritation had flared. An irritation with herself, primarily. A desire to see him at least once before she managed to lay herself down to have yet another restless sleep. To apologize despite never having a reason to do so before. But the longer she searched, the more she wanted to just... stop. It had never taken her THIS long to find him... but perhaps she deserved it. She let out a sigh as she hit the elevator to the highest floor, making her way through the halls once more in a last attempt to find him. But alas, there was... nothing.
Thoughts clouded her mind as she finally made her way towards the small, personal workshop he had, going through her usual routine of climbing the pipes and slipping through the grate in the floor without being detected by the worst of the Soldats. Sure, there were definitely easier ways to get up to that level, but this was what she was used to. No, he wasn't here, either... Now she REALLY had no idea where he was. With a heavy sigh, she made her way to a hidden door on the other side of the workshop, pausing only to glance at the primary table. It looked as if he had been making... something. But small bits of recently crushed metal made her wince, and it wasn't until she caught sight of a small gear that she moved again, slowly nearing the table itself. It was the gear he had taken from the mould before she opened her mouth. She gingerly picked it up, noticing it not even touched by his powers. She could feel it... Metal moved by him had a certain... energy to it. It wasn't something she had started to notice until recently. The gear she held didn't possess this energy, and it made her feel even more guilty. Just how pissed was he to not even use the Cadou???
She took a breath before stuffing it in the pocket of her tied jumpsuit, hearing the small *clink* as it hit the other one she had pulled after he left. Why did she take them...? She didn't know... It was a mindless decision that she knew wouldn't have much of an impact.
Distant sounds of machinery could be heard as she finally made her way through the door, her footsteps silent as she made her way to the room she occasionally occupied when she wasn't in the factory itself. It wasn't HER room per-say, more like a resting place if needed. She reached up to take her hair out of the small tie and run her hand through it before opening the door with a sigh, only to freeze as she entered the room. She was met with Heisenberg on the 'bed', laying on his back with his arms behind his head, his eyes closed and his legs crossed. His jacket and button-up shirt were thrown across a chair, leaving him in the dark tank top he wore underneath. She watched his muscles tense as the door opened, his jaw tightening somewhat as she held her breath. A wave of nervousness flooded over her as she stood in the doorway, not unsure if she should even move.
"... Ah..." she tried, almost afraid to speak. "... H-Hey..."
She gulped as she was simply met with an acknowledging grunt. He said nothing... He didn't even look at her. She stood for a moment before holding her breath and slowly entering the room, mentally bracing herself for any kind of impact. But... nothing came. Even as she hesitantly made her way to the desk, jumping slightly as she heard the door close naturally behind her. She tore her eye away from him, instead focusing on the desk itself, looking over notes he had written. Or... lack thereof... The paper on top was filled with obvious, angry eraser marks over random words that had been written so many times that the paper itself was imprinted with them. Other miscellaneous papers were crumpled or bent, indicating frustration. There was silence until she spoke again.
"... Production ran smoothly..." she said quietly, only to flinch as she heard movement. She looked at him to see as he slowly sat up.
"Good." He said simply, lacking any sort of interest.
Emelia felt a twist in her gut as he moved to stand, his movements somewhat stiff as she heard soft clicking from his left leg once he stood. It was then that she knew, her words had hit him harder than she thought. It sounded as if the leg was going to give out on the poor man as he walked despite knowing it wasn't, nearly brushing past her on his way to the door. It sent an unpleasant shiver down her spine. She held her breath, the twisting in her stomach not leaving.
"H-Hey..." she tried, her voice soft as she spoke over her shoulder. She heard the flick of a lighter before she smelled the sweet scent of the cigar.
"What." His voice was low as he glanced back at her. She couldn't face him... His eyes dug into her shoulders. It was an admittedly cold feeling... She didn't like it.
"Shouldn't... Shouldn't you... Relax a bit...?" She offered, trying to sound as hopeful as she could despite the feeling. She looked at him as she heard him move again.
"I already did." He replied, mere inches away from the door, itself. She couldn't help as she felt the smallest bit of panic.
"W-wait-"
"I have work to do, Emelia." He growled, reaching for the handle. It was then that she turned around fully, her face that of regret.
"Karl, please...!" She said, her voice nearly begging. He seemed to pause, his head turning slightly towards her. He said nothing, the smoke from the cigar flowing through his nose as if he were an enraged bull. But she kept her eye on him, her own jaw tightening as she took a breath.
"I... I'm..." she started, reaching to rub her arm slightly. He didn't move. "I'm sorry..."
Silence filled the room once more as Heisenberg stared at her, his hand hovering over the door handle. She then took a breath, opening her mouth to speak once more.
"I... I really am..." she sighed, looking down. "I just... I wanted to be alone... Those damned Soldats haven't granted me any peace all week, the bloody Lycans have been running me ragged outside of the factory, and I've been so damned angry and I just... I wasn't thinking, and..." she paused, taking a breath before looking back up at him and sighing. "No, I... There's... there's no excuse. I shouldn't have said anything... I'm sorry, Karl... I'm so sorry."
Silence.
More silence.
'Please say SOMETHING...' she thought, watching as he finally looked at her. She couldn't tell WHAT he was thinking behind the shades he wore... It worried her. Her breath halted as he slowly moved his hand away from the door, turning his body to face her entirely, his movements slow.
"You really think I can forgive you just like that?" He asked quietly, his shaded gaze burrowing into her skull. Smoke came out of his mouth with each word. She nearly shrank back, lowering her own gaze to the floor.
"No..." she answered, shaking her head. "I wasn't expecting you to..."
"And what's stopping me from leaving this room, or even crushing you?"
"Nothing."
Her answer was immediate, and she glanced up at him to see him left his chin. He seemed to think for a few moments, his gaze flicking around her form. But to her surprise, he relaxed.
"The gears you have are defects." He said simply, nodding to her hip. What?? She stared at him, now incredibly confused.
"What...?" She asked, unintentionally backing away and leaning against the table as he walked to her. He stopped in front of her, raising a brow at the confused- and now nervous- look she gave him.
"The gears in your pocket. They're defects. Check around the edges." He repeated, holding out his hand. The gears... She reached down to pat her side, feeling the pieces of metal against her leg as they made a small noise from the movement.
Oh.
She reached into her pocket and pulled both of them out. She looked over each one for a moment, frowning as she saw what he meant. There were holes... Not the usual holes, of course, and not where she'd notice immediately unless she had closely inspected each one beforehand. They were along the insides of the gear edges, nearly going through the metal itself. There were multiple holes in each gear, indicating odd air bubbles when the metal had set. In other words, anything they were used in would have ended badly. That must have been why he had taken the one in the first place... She then groaned, thinking back to the amount of them she had made.
"Damn it..." she growled, only to jump as Heisenberg nudged her hand with his.
"The others are fine, if that's what you're worried about." He said casually, nodding to his hand. "That also means you took one off my work table."
Emelia looked at him before giving a sigh, carefully setting one of the gears in his palm.
"Sorry..." she said quietly, her eye moving to his hand as he inspected the gear he was given. "I just thought-"
"Thought you could fix a mistake with a broken gear?" He asked, watching her face. She hesitated.
".... maybe... I just... didn't know how." she admitted, looking at her own. She was quiet for a moment. "You didn't touch it with your powers, I thought maybe it could be used for something..." she mumbled.
Her words seemed to make him perk up somewhat with a newfound interest.
"I didn't what?" He asked. She froze.
"... You... you didn't use your Cadou...?" She repeated carefully, looking up at him.
"How can you tell?"
How COULD she tell??? She knew it was a recent thing, but...
"It... I don't know, it's... It's hard to explain." She managed, reaching for the one In his hand and gingerly taking it as he opened his palm for her. "There's... almost an energy to the things you've used your Cadou on, if that makes sense... Almost like a small... fuzzy electric coating... Sort of."
"And when did you realize this?" He asked, legitimately curious as he blew out more smoke. She stopped, her eye widening slightly.
Of course she knew when. Or, at least what she assumed started it. 'The first time you touched me like that', she thought, her cheeks going slightly red at the thought. The metals in her own body had felt different since then, setting off a small change in feeling to every metal around them daily.
"Since we... uhm..." she mumbled, her eye moving between the gears as she pushed them together slightly. She flinched as Heisenberg gave a soft chuckle, knowing exactly what she had meant. It was an interesting development, he thought, as well as a highly amusing one.
"I guess that makes sense." He said, a light smirk crossing his features.
"... It does?" She asked quietly, only to jump as he took a step closer and leaned forward, setting his hands on the edges of the table beside her and effectively rendering her unable to move. She could feel his body heat once more, though was slightly more concerned about the cigar that was ever so close to her face despite him being careful to not let the burning embers close to her skin. She clutched the small gears to her chest, watching as he studied her face.
"Back to the original topic..." he started, noticing as her cheeks reddened just slightly. "There might be a way I can forgive you."
Emelia stared at him with a wide eye, watching as he backed away enough to take the cigar from his mouth without it touching her.
"... there is...?" She asked quietly, watching the smoke curl into the air as he nodded and spoke.
"Yup." He said, gesturing to her hands. "Find something to do with those gears. Something that WON'T destroy my factory, preferably."
She paused.
"That's it...?" She managed, utterly confused. He shrugged.
"For now."
He held out his hand to offer the cigar to her. There was a moment of silence as she stood still, only moving as he gestured to it. She hesitantly reached up and took the object from his fingers, nodding her thanks before slowly putting it between her own lips. He removed his glasses before nodding to her hand.
"Think you can do that for me?" He asked, watching as she exhaled smoke from between her teeth with a nod.
"Of course." She replied, almost too eagerly for her taste. But she meant it... Something in her mind told her she wanted to appease him in any way possible now. She didn't know WHAT she'd use them for, or how long it would take, but she'd find a way.
More smoke came from her mouth as she took another drag, handing it back to him carefully. He took it back, but simply kept his position in front of her and gave a hum.
"Maybe one or two more things." He said suddenly, the smallest smirk forming as more nervousness filled her face.
"What...?" She asked, moving to set the gears on the table next to her, only to jump with a surprised noise as he suddenly leaned forward and nearly crushed his mouth to hers.
The kiss was somewhat rough, a decent amount of aggression behind it as she was pushed backwards against the table and nearly losing her balance. Her hands few back to brace herself against the table as not to fall backwards, just barely managing to keep very balance. small shiver ran down her spine as she returned it, and another came as he let out an angry growl.
"Sit." He grumbled against her lips. She let out a confused whine as he gripped the table behind her, and she thought he'd toss the thing with her on it. The small cogs clattered to the floor as he suddenly swiped everything away from the edge of the table while keeping her against him.
"I said SIT." He growled louder, earning a surprised yelp as he suddenly grabbed her hips. His fingers dug into her sides as he lifted her and shoved her on to the table, feeling her hands fly up to hold onto his shoulders in attempts to balance herself once more. He didn't let up, another growl leaving his throat as he sent a rippling pulse through the piercings in her body.
Emelia let out a squealing whine at the feeling, though was kept locked to him as he wrapped an arm tightly around her waist. Her back arched into his chest with the pulses of electricity, attempting to hide the muffled whines that escaped her throat. But they only encouraged him. He felt her nervous hands travel to hold his jaw, her fingers trembling. Not with fear, however, very obviously proven as she welcomed the kiss and touches with every movement he made. She gasped into the kiss as he suddenly tugged her forward, pressing his hips to hers. Her thighs tightened slightly around his sides as the pulses grew in power, and she was suddenly molded to him and soaking up every bit of warmth he gave.
"Not used to it and you already want more, yeah?" He said, pulling away from her enough to speak, yet still close enough for his lips to brush hers with every word. He could see her face, taking pride in the redness of her cheeks and the near begging glint in her eye.
She was silent, only slightly nodding with a single, embarrassed whine as her thighs trembled against him. Heisenberg chuckled, the tone dark a he smirked almost evilly.
"Didn't think you were so eager." He started, leaning down to press rough kisses and bites against her neck, marking the skin almost immediately. A chill ran down her spine as her breaths came in light pants while he bit up to her jaw, her hands gripping his shirt straps.
"You pissed me off, Emelia. I don't take that shit lightly." He growled lowly, his lips nearly against her ear. He tugged her shirt from its tucked position, enjoying as she nearly melted into putty in his hands. He continued. "You pissed me off, so here's what's gonna happen. I'm going to do whatever the hell I want with you and to you." He stated, moving one hand up to brush his fingers along her neck as he allowed the pulses to cease for the moment. He felt her breath hitch as he pressed his fingers just below her jaw, feeling her pulse quicken. "You're gonna do what I say and you're not gonna say a god damn word about it. Do you understand?"
Emelia felt another large shiver down her spine at his words, feeling his palm rest against her neck as she swallowed nervously. Sure, they made her just she smallest bit scared. But it was also... exciting? It sent her mind into a frenzy, and she legitimately wasn't sure if she should have been afraid or aroused. Either way, she nodded almost immediately, taking as deep a breath as she could without making any other sudden movements. He grinned with an evil chuckle.
"Good girl." He grumbled, leaning to bite down on her neck once more before backing away fully, chuckling at the quiet whine of protest he received in response as his hand left her throat. Emelia froze for a moment once she realized his warmth had left her, covering her face in near embarrassment with her legs almost immediately closing together as he adjusted his shirt.
"For now, you're gonna wait." He said simply, standing up straight as she looked up at him with disbelief. How could he just-
"H-Hey...!" She started, only stopping as he reached forward and grabbed under her jaw, pressing his fingers to her cheeks and yanking her forward just slightly.
"Shut up and stay here, Doll." He purred, watching as she squirmed slightly on the desk. "Relax yourself, you're gonna need it-" he then paused, only to smirk, "- Or make yourself worse for me. This is the last choice you get until I come back."
Emelia gave another whimper, gulping as he shoved her back against the table before letting go.
"What are YOU doing...??" She asked, unable to hide the slight pout in her voice. Oh god, what in the hell WAS this?! What was she reduced to? POUTING?!
"I've got some work to do. Now stay in this room." Heisenberg chuckled, finally retreating back to the door. "It'll be worse for you if you leave. Trust me, I'll know."
She opened her mouth to speak, only to get cut off as he left the room almost too quickly. But even then, her voice was caught in her throat once the door clicked shut. How... How did he...
She finally pushed herself off the table with a shaky breath, nearly feeling her knees collapse under her from the warm feeling between her legs. It was a feeling she knew she had to get used to despite knowing what it was... While it usually irritated her, this time it filled her with a near excited anxiousness. It took a few moments to regain her composure, finally managing to walk with shaky muscles. She made her way to the 'bed', nearly flopping down on it with her legs hanging over the side as she got lost in thought. He didn't SEEM incredibly pissed anymore... Granted, he wasn't happy either.
Her hands covered her face, rubbing it slightly.. It COULDN'T have entirely been a way to 'forgive', could it...?? If so, what were his plans when he got back? She had no idea how fully experimental he was... Hell, she didn't know what SHE could do. The idea of him using her was terrifying and admittedly arousing at the same time, but she couldn't help but relax just slightly. At least he forgave her... Or, he would. Partially. That fact put her mind at ease somewhat, knowing that going out of her way to find him afterward to apologize wasn't all for naught. But for the time being, she let her mind wander to what he could possibly do. Or maybe she shouldn't... She barely knew what to expect from the subject alone much less from him, especially when he was upset. He pushed her hard enough without the aspect of sex, but now... She really didn't know what to expect.
Oh well... It would be fine.
Maybe.

Break My Heart- chapter 24
Fandom: From Blood & Ash | ch25
TW: Mentions of self harm.
Summary: What happens when the star quarterback of Atlantia High School grows an interest towards the shy, adorable but smart girl in his grade? Come and join Hawke and Poppy on this rollercoaster of emotions.
a/n: Read with caution please.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HAWKE'S POV
I was the biggest asshole, douchebag, scumbag to be alive.
I didn't realize what I really was doing until that night. Somewhere deep down, I knew I was falling for her hard and fast, but I remain in denial.
I hated seeing her so broken, I hated that the tears that escaped her eyes were because of me and I could do nothing.
I hated myself.
She didn't deserve any of the shit I put her through. She had no play in whatever happened in the past but anger blinded me so much that I never thought twice before following my twisted plan.
And now that I've achieved the goal I wanted to achieve for months, why am I feeling so fucking guilty? The answer was obvious, but the problem was I never meant to fall for her and yet here I was.
I regret what I did, I regret that I didn't tell her all this sooner, I regret hurting her so much and maybe a tiny part of my also regretted falling in love with her.
Whenever I saw her smile genuinely towards me, a realization always crossed my mind that this beautiful human deserved a lot better than me. And then the guilt followed, but I always made myself remind how I felt when I was hurt and it helped soothe my mind only for a while.
Then that night when Gianna revealed that she was the one who actually initiated the kiss, at that moment only one single thought flickered across my mind: What have I done?
But the damage was already done. It hurt a lot seeing her in that state, it hurt even more when she said those things and my mind absolutely went blank when she told me she loved me.
I loved you and still do!
After hearing her confess that, panic seeped into my body, mind and heart. I couldn't let her go, I just couldn't.
But I had to.
I deserved whatever she did and say. And I deserved much, much worse.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For the next few days, I tried to talk to her in school. I even brought her her favorite flowers. I knew it was not an apology but I needed something as a conversation starter to get to the serious talk.
And all she did was ignore me which hurt like a bitch but as I said earlier, I deserved it.
I tried to trick myself into thinking that just maybe, she didn't mean what she said about being in love with me. I thought maybe she'll get over it not so quickly but by the end she will be able to make it through.
And I was proven exactly wrong by Friday when I saw how she had lost weight in such a short span of time. Yet I still did nothing.
On Sunday, I had enough. She had to listen to me no matter the circumstances. Of course, the decision would be up to her about us but she could decide after she had listened to me.
And that's why I was standing in a vet shop at twelve in the afternoon. Once she told me that if she'd ever have a dog, it'd be a poodle.
I knew it didn't make up even one percent for what I did but I just wanted to do something instead of nothing.
So I bought her a red colored toy poodle and left for her house. I initially chose for the brown one but then the red one reminded me of hair color so I bought that one.
I stood in front of her house and rang the doorbell twice.
Mrs. Balfour opened the door and exclaimed seeing a puppy on her doorstep.
"Hello, Mrs. Balfour."
After she was done petting the puppy she saw me, "Hi, Casteel. Poppy didn't tell us you were stopping by,"
At that I grew nervous, "Uh yeah actually, I wanted to surprise her with him."
I picked up the puppy in my arms for emphasis.
She gasped, "That's so sweet of you. Come on in," she gestured inside and I followed her.
Inside while Poppy's mom called her downstairs, I greeted Poppy's dad and explained again that I wanted to surprise her.
A part of me was grateful that she didn't tell her parents while the other part of my reminded me how alone she must be since the incident.
"She's always wanted a poodle since she was five. At that time she was still really young and we didn't want to risk it so we'd decided that we would buy her a poodle as one of her high school graduation gifts."
I laughed uneasily, "That's sweet. I bought the red one because it matched with her hair color."
Her parents had a tender expression on their faces.
When Poppy didn't come downstairs after fifteen minutes, her mom told me to follow her upstairs and surprise her there and then only.
After knocking twice, her mom opened the door. She wasn't there so her mom went towards the bathroom to check meanwhile I placed the puppy on the floor and a white envelope caught my eye.
I picked it up from her nightstand and it had my name on it,
Hawke.
A frown marred my face and a sudden scream startled me out of my daze. I quickly pocketed the letter in my jean's pocket and went towards the bathroom where Mrs. Balfour fell on the floor.
And nothing could've ever prepared me to see what happened there.
Poppy's body was on the floor, blood flooding from her wrist and a blade lay in her lifeless hand.

We got the first glimpse on his pov!!!! yayyy also remember: YOU MATTER A LOT. Also the dog he bought for her:

Sixth Day of Twelve - A Scrumptious Mystery
The mystery of the secret surprise gifts continue.

. . . .
You were unsure how people who didn't like coffee survived with little to no sleep in their system because coffee was keeping you alive until lunch time today. Sunday at work after a long case was exhausting but the condition on getting the reports done was to be out of there by early afternoon and have Monday/Tuesday off unless a high priority case came up.
You hadn't got much sleep the night before because Jack was texting you until 2am your time which was 1am her time. She shared all the food she'd eaten and the sights she'd seen on her car rides around town with Dwayne. The tiredness made filling out reports that much harder but you didn't want to end the conversation until Jack did the night before. Ok, you had it bad and it being the holiday season only made that feeling worse especially with the current secret gift giver.
Vance may regret letting her finally got to NOLA for a case, she was raving about it over text so much that.yoy were slightly worried she wouldn't board her return flight home in a few days. She'd been begging for ages and you just know she wont shut up about it when she gets back which would mean the next time Dwayne requests her assistance her badgering will be even more relentless.
Poor Vance, you chuckled to yourself.
You never wanted Dwayne on your back, Jack on the other hand... You smirked at your thought and ran it out of your mind.
Back to work, you only had a few reports to finish because Gibbs had finally cracked the neighbour in interrogation before you'd ce in this morning. He didn't actually kill the victim but admitted to hiring someone to do it for him, it was almost a perfect murder, the only thing connecting the two was his Instagram account which Jack had found yesterday before she left.
You were all busy typing away for the last two hours, furiously getting this work done so you could enjoy some quiet time. Gibbs had just gone for a coffee run, his trash can was already full of cups. It made you wonder if he actually went home last night. He was just walking back in when you stretched in your chair, cracking your back from being hunched over your keyboard for so long.
"Your order." Gibbs placed a bag on your desk next to the photo frame and phone.
"What?" You spoke before you thought. Ripping the plastic bag closer to you and peering inside to see a styrofoam box that smelled Devine.
"Elaine said you ordered lunch." He shrugged walking over to his desk.
All eyes were on Gibbs then back to you. "But i-? Did someone put you up to this?" His flat glare answered that stupid question.
Of course, Gibbs wouldn't be apart of the rouse. Or...?
Could Jack have called from NOLA?
Anyone could've made that call but he said, Elaine said you ordered. Someone was most certainly lying.
You squinted at Gibbs but he didn't flinch, move or grunt.
Some might think that was his tell when he did nothing but right now you were too hungry and confused to figure him out.
You picked out the box and opened it to reveal your favourite, cheeseburger and fries, perfect. The grumbling in your stomach demanded to be satisfied even though.yoy felt slightly guilty that no one else had lunch. That guilt lasted all of ten seconds until you took your first bite and you were on heaven. Whoever this gift giver was, you wanted to kiss them right about now. This was perfect.
Just as you took your last mouthful of food you felt your cell vibrate in your pocket. You'd switched it to vibrate after Jack's texting last.
I bet my lunch is yummier than yours!
You couldn't help the wide spread grin on your face at the picture that was attached to the few words. Nevermind the possible clue about your gift. No, the picture was amazing. You clicked save and made a mental not to add it as your wallpaper later.
Jacqueline Sloane surrounded by assortments of various dishes, food on both sides of her cheeks, hands covered in whatever she was eating with a massive grin on her face. You could make out the side of Tammy's head and you guessed Dwayne was taking the picture.
Ellie was curious at your laughter and had walked over while you were staring at your phone. "Oh my god. I hate her." She groaned, "I'm going to get ten packets of things from the break room now." She stomped out of the bullpen and you could've sworn you heard her stomach growl.
It's a close call. I got my favourite meal and I didn't even order it. You look very much in your element, Bishop is jealous, as am I.
Send.
Before Bishop was even back, there was a reply.
That's hard to beat. The Diner's cheeseburgers are to die for. Don't tell E about dessert.
Was sent with a picture of various pies and something else you didn't recognise. There mustve been a party or something because the spread was something you'd only seen on Christmas Day.
You read the message again and again. She knew your favourite meal and where it came from. It wasn't like no one knew about it, hell every time you met up with the team at the dinner that was your order unless it was breakfast time. Not that you couldn't order it for breakfast. You and Jack had been there several times for a sneaky lunch break when it wasn't busy at work. She knew, the whole office probably knew. You groaned and put your phone down. It wasn't helping getting your work done and you needed to go home to over think this over a bottle of wine and chocolate.
. . . .
Apologies if this is shorter than the rest, hard to keep up with the lengths. Thank you to everyone that's liked and commented and reblogged!! Means a lot and helps me keep writing them :)

Chapter Three- Late Night Conversations
........
Monday morning rolled around much quicker than Molly had anticipated and soon she found herself driving to work in an early morning rainstorm. She'd spent the rest of the weekend very much the same way she usually did, which included a little bit of lesson planning, grocery shopping, and a whole lot of Netflix. She'd like to say she didn't check her phone ever so often, but that'd be a lie.She was anticipating a text from the man she'd gotten along so well with on Friday night, but it seemed she wouldn't hear from him the rest of the weekend
Molly arrived at the preschool 30 minutes before her shift, which gave her plenty of time before the children arrived to prep anything she needed for the day and to make sure her classroom was in correct order. It was also the time she spent talking to Hannah and Sophia, but this morning, she decided she would keep to herself. Of course she wouldn't be so lucky. Hannah apparently noticed her absence and decided to come to her.
"Well, I'm sure glad you're not dead. What happened to texting me when you got home?"
Molly's eyes widened as she paused her task of filling the toddlers' sippy cups with milk. She looked up at Hannah, her expression apologetic. "Oh, I forgot! I'm so sorry, I didn't get home until 3:00 or so...I guess I just crashed once I got home."
Hannah raised a brow. "3:00? You were out until 3:00?! Molly Grace!"
"What? I was having a good time..." Molly mumbled as she suddenly found interest in organizing the cups by color.
"Mhmm,I'm sure you were..." Hannah muttered.
"Oh it wasn't like that and you know it. Lachy and I just talked and got to know each other. We took a walk on the beach and completely lost track of time..."
Hannah snorted in a poor attempt to hide her laugh. "I can't believe you spent the afternoon with the Purple Wiggle..."
Molly raised a brow as she turned to place the cups in the fridge. "And what does that matter? If I remember correctly, that's the whole reason we went to the pub in the first place, to see them? Which, by the way, you failed to mention when you begged me to go."
"We didn't think you'd go if we told you.  But really Molly, you needed a night out with your friends. And I'm glad you had fun, but you kinda flaked on us. We didn't see you all night. And when we did you were with that man. We wanted to spend time with you, and you blew us off to hang out with a guy you don't even know...That's not like you."
Molly bit her lip. "At least he paid attention." She mumbled.
"Excuse me?" Hannah's voice was edged with anger.
Molly was tempted to not answer and to just let it go, but she just couldn't. "I said at least he paid attention..." She turned to look at Hannah, who appeared shocked to say the least . "You and Sophie were so busy drinking and talking to each other that you didn't even notice when I left the table. I wasn't having fun, not even remotely until I met Lachy. So please, stop going on about it! If you had wanted to spend time with me so  badly then you would have done it..." Molly couldn't believe she'd just said that. A part of her regretted her words and was about to apologize, but the other part of her knew she was right, and from the look on Hannah's face, she did too.
Hannah started to speak, but she seemed to have thought better of it, deciding instead to turn and walk out of the classroom without another word. Molly knew Hannah was pissed, but she wasn't about to apologize for something she really wasn't sorry for. So instead, she went about her day attempting to push the conversation from her mind which was rather easy to do with eight adorable distractions running amok in her classroom.
As it turned out, the rain continued to pour in Folly Beach, South Carolina, which meant the littles were once again cooped up inside. Thankfully, Molly had quite a few activities at her disposal to keep the toddlers busy. Of course, they got their 30 minutes of Wiggle Time before nap, which Molly found quite awkward to get through, if she was honest. But she kept herself busy with her plan book while the children sang along to their favorite songs.
Before she knew it, all the children had gone home, her classroom was back in order from the whirlwind that is eight toddlers, and she was on her way out the door and heading toward her car, completely ready to go home. Thankfully, she only had a fifteen minute drive from the school to her apartment complex, so she didn't have to wait long.
At around 6:30, Molly stepped through the door of her 4th floor apartment with a tired sigh. She didn't waste any time in locking her door and double checking it before she headed to her room for a change of clothes. After spending the work day in jeans, she was more than ready for the comfort of leggings and her favorite sweatshirt.
The air in South Carolina had grown a bit chilly over the last week with the arrival of autumn, thus her apartment had been cooler than usual. She hesitated to turn the heating unit on, what with how unpredictable southern weather could be, so she stayed warm with her cozy sweatshirts, fuzzy socks, and throw blankets she kept near her couch. Perfect for an evening in binge watching The Office, which is exactly what she'd planned on doing. She had no lesson plans to do, so the young woman didn't feel the least bit guilty crashing on the couch.
As Molly settled on the couch, wrapped in her favorite quilt, she reached for the remote and launched Netflix. Though she'd watched the entire series through on more than one occasion, The Office  has always been a favorite that she'd go back to again and again. It was the kind of silly comedy that was easy to get lost in. She tried to tell herself she wasn't watching it as a distraction, but that would be a lie. She was definitely distracting herself from glancing at her phone over and over, or even sending Lachy a message on Instagram.
"You're being stupid, Molly." She chided herself as she flipped her phone screen down on the coffee table. "You won't hear from him again and you know it. If he'd been the least bit interested in texting you, he'd have done it by now." She had expected this, it didn't mean she was any less disappointed...
Soon enough, Molly was completely immersed in the show, laughing as Jim and Dwight got up to their usual antics. She had forgotten all about her phone and Lachy, at least for the time being. That is, until her phone began to buzz with an incoming call.
Molly quickly reached for her phone, figuring it was her boss or Hannah wanting to talk to her about something work related. However, when she looked at the screen she was surprised to see a number she didn't recognize. Her eyes widened and her heart began to heat a little faster "I wonder...." she murmured as her thumb hovered over the accept button. But it couldn't be, could it? "No, it's probably just a telemarketer."
Molly let the call go to voicemail, but almost immediately her phone began to ring again. It was the same number. "If that's a telemarketer, he's certainly persistent..." Still yet, Molly let the call go to voicemail once more. If it was Lachy he'd call another time, right? She could have kicked herself for not getting his number when she gave him her's.
"I could call the number back..." She mumbled to herself. What could it hurt? If it was a telemarketer, all she had to do was block the number and forget about it. Or she could leave it alone. But what if it was him?
While Molly was warring with herself, her phone began to buzz, this time signaling the arrival of a text. Molly knew it was ridiculous, but she had never clicked a notification so quickly in her life, especially when she realized the text was from the same exact number that called. She couldn't stop the smile that tugged at her lips as she read the text.
"Hello,is this Molly? This is Lachy from the other night."
Molly grinned as she read the message. So it WAS him. She wondered if she should reply or just call him. Knowing her and her general shyness, she knew a voice conversation could be potentially awkward despite the fact that there hadn't really been a moment of awkwardness between them the other day. It was still surprising to her how comfortable she had felt with him, and a bit scary if she was honest. She hadn't felt that comfortable around a guy since Asher.
"No, I'm not thinking about him." She said firmly, shaking her head as she began to type out a reply to the text.
"Hey, Stranger. :)"
Molly couldn't explain the butterflies fluttering in her stomach as she waited for a reply. She shouldn't be this nervous. It was a few moments before another text came through.
"Oh, good! I thought you'd typed the wrong number in when you weren't answering. And I realize I didn't even think to give you my number or any of my social media handles before you left, which was stupid on my part...Wait..This is Molly, right? You're not messing with me?"
Molly giggled a bit as she read the text. She could almost hear him rambling as she read and reread the words.. For a moment she considered calling him rather than continuing their text conversation, just to hear his voice, but she thought better of it. "You're getting ahead of yourself, Molly. You don't really know this guy..." But she did know him. At least, she felt like she did, however impossible that was after only a few hours of conversation.
"Relax, it's me. How have you been?" She questioned in another text.
A few moments passed with no reply, so Molly decided to step into the kitchen to get something to drink and see what she could make for dinner. Not that she really felt like cooking. Maybe she'd order something instead. Yeah, Chinese sounded good anyway.
Just as she finished placing an online order for delivery from her favorite Chinese place, another text from Lachy came through.
"I'd say busy, but that'd be an understatement. We had three shows yesterday. And I managed to lose my phone somewhere between Folly Beach and Greenville, which is why I didn't text before now. I'm sorry about that."
Molly frowned a bit. Losing a phone was always a hassle, she couldn't even begin to imagine doing so in a different country. She wondered how difficult it had been for him to get another phone. Do they even have the same service carriers in Australia as they did here?
"Oh, that sucks! Did you get a new one?"
Molly knew that was a silly question. Of course he got a new phone, how else was he texting her? She bit her lip somewhat nervously as she turned her attention back to the tv while she waited for a response, though she was no longer interested in the show in the least. It wasn't long before Lachy texted back.
"It was a nightmare, but yes. And I thankfully got all my contacts back. But other than that, it hasn't been too bad. And what about you? How have you been?"
"Oh, I can only imagine. I'm glad you got it sorted." Molly replied. "I've been good. I spent the rest of the weekend lesson planning and watching Netflix, so nothing too interesting."
"Netflix?" Was Lachy's reply, which was quickly followed by another. "Anything interesting?"
Just as Molly was about to type out a response to Lachy, her doorbell rang, signalling the arrival of the Chinese she'd ordered and nearly forgotten about. So, with a small sigh, she set her phone down on the coffee table and went to answer the door. After paying the delivery guy, she shut and locked her door before heading to the kitchen. Realizing that she was anxious to continue her conversation with Lachy, she quickly grabbed a fork and her container of lo mein before hurrying back to her couch.
"I watched the second season of The Crown over the weekend. Before you judge, it was only 10 episodes, so not too many."
"No judgments here." Was Lachy's quick reply, "Sometimes lazy sofa weekends with Netflix and comfy clothes are the best weekends. I look forward to having a few of those myself once we're back home. So, what are some other shows you find binge worthy? I could do to add a few new titles to my watch list."
With her dinner completely forgotten, Molly dove into a conversation with Lachy over their favorite Netflix shows, finding that they shared quite a few favorites, including a mutual love for Friends. The discussion moved to movies and books they enjoyed, and then on to details about their personal lives like where they grew up and how many siblings they had.
Molly learned that Lachy was 33, almost 34 and was born in Brisbane, Australia where he still lived, and that he was the middle of three boys. In light of his love for musical theatre, Lachy had attended Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts where he received a bachelors in musical theatre before he was given a job with the Wiggles. He mentioned briefly that he was divorced, but he didn't go into any detail about that, which Molly was grateful for. She didn't feel they knew each other nearly well enough to go into details of past relationships. And she sure wasn't comfortable enough to share any details about Asher with her new friend.
Likewise, Molly revealed that she'd been born in Northern California, but moved to Folly Beach with her parents at the age of two. She was an only child and she grew up helping her parents run their seaside inn after school and during the summer holidays. She attended college in Nashville, Tennessee, where she received her degree in early childhood before she returned to Folly Beach to work as a toddler teacher in the local preschool. She enjoyed her job, but the 29 year old seemed to feel stuck at times, and she admitted to Lachy that she felt a change would do her some good.
The two continued to text back and forth for hours, though it only felt like minutes to them. In fact. Molly hadn't even realized just how late it had gotten until her phone chimed at midnight to remind her to set her alarm for her usual 5:30 am wake up. She couldn't help but feel disappointed when she realized that she'd have to call it a night if she had any hope of getting a half decent night of sleep. After all, a classroom full of wild toddlers was a challenge on a full eight hours, but on less than six? She knew she'd regret it if she didn't sleep soon.
Reluctantly, Molly moved to her bedroom where she settled in her bed, but she didn't put her phone away. She instead began to type out a text to bring the conversation to an end for the night.
"I can't believe it's so late. Unfortunately I have to work early tomorrow, so I should get some sleep." She texted. It was now going on 12:30, and she still couldn't figure out how it'd gotten so late so fast. "I guess losing track of time is easy when you're having fun." She murmured to herself as a smile tugged at her lips.
Molly was expecting a response in the form of a text, but she was quite surprised when it came in the form of a phone call. This time she didn't hesitate to answer the phone.
"Hello...Lachy?" She questioned, her voice filled with slight confusion. Why was he calling her? She'd just mentioned that she needed sleep, and she was certain he needed it as well.
"Molly? Hey.." Lachy replied. He sounded a bit awkward as he spoke in a hushed tone. Molly would have almost thought he was trying to keep from waking someone up, but she could hear laughter and conversation in the background.
"Hey..." She repeated, still sounding as confused as ever. "Is everything alright? Why are you talking so quietly?"
"Huh? Oh yes, everything's fine. We're on the bus headed to Charlotte and everyone's just having a bit of a laugh.  I just, well, I wanted to tell you goodnight." He admitted.
"You just wanted to hear her voice, Lach! Don't lie to yourself, mate!"
Molly giggled a bit as she recognized the voice of Anthony calling out in the background. She could almost imagine a blush on Lachy's cheeks as she heard him curse under his breath. "I take it he's a bit tipsy?"
"Who, Anto? Nah, the cheeky bastard hasn't had a drop. He doesn't drink, he just likes to tease people." Lachy replied, chuckling a bit.
"I see," Molly murmured sleepily. "There must never be a dull moment with him."
Lachy chuckled again at her words. "Not for a second." He said, his voice once again hushed. "You sound sleepy, I'm sorry to have kept you up so late." Lachy sounded apologetic, though Molly wasn't sorry in the least.
"No, don't be sorry. It wasn't just you. I was enjoying our conversation and I guess I lost track of time." She admitted. "But I really do need to sleep, 5:30 comes rather early. And besides, isn't it passed your bedtime? I mean, I'm surprised you're still awake now." She teased. After all, Lachy's character was well known for falling asleep often and at the drop of a hat.
There was silence for a second before Molly heard Lachy's laughter carrying over the phone. "Probably so." He mused. "I know with a class of toddlers to take care of, it's most definitely passed your's. We should be arriving at the hotel soon anyway. I'll let you get some sleep now. Can I call you tomorrow?"
Molly felt her cheeks heat up in a blush. She could hear a hint of timidness in his voice when he'd asked to call again and should couldn't help but smile a bit brighter. "Of course you can." She answered as she attempted to hide a yawn. She was certain he'd heard it, though, as she heard him chuckling again. She was sleepier than she thought.
"You really are sleepy, aren't you?"
"Well, I mean, I'm typically asleep before 10:00 on school nights. I know, I know, it's a little ridiculous, but that's the exciting life of a teacher." Molly murmured. If the yawn didn't betray how tired she was, her voice sure did.
"No, I can't blame you really. Well, I won't keep you awake any longer, then. Goodnight, Molly." Lachy's voice was almost in a whisper now, bringing a smile to Molly's lips.
"Goodnight, Lachy." She replied. She hesitated a moment before she ended the call and placed her phone on the nightstand. With a final sleepy sigh, she settled under the covers and closed her eyes, allowing herself to fall asleep yet again with thoughts of Lachy on her mind.
