I'm actually weird and don't like fics that are super, super long, i always think they start to lose plot structure if they get over 100k. But most people disagree, and those fics are definitely out there. Here are some recs of fic that are like 50-100, which is like my ideal length. These are mostly on my fav of all time list, too, but just in case you haven't seen that:

Close the Door Lightly When You Go by RosalindBeatrice (64K): This link is to the series, there are three and they're 64K total. This is just such a beautiful story of John and Paul trying to reconnect in the 70s. Very angsty and the ending is a bit ambiguous but it's just very good.

Boy, You’ve Been A Naughty Girl by @scurator (50k): If you like young Paul and John in Liverpool, you'll love this one. John makes a bet with Paul that he could pass for a girl, and Paul starts dressing up like a woman and they both get confused. Well that was a terrible explanation but trust me, it's sweet and sexy.

Take a sad song, and make it better by @javelinbk (73K): Since you liked Brother Dearest, here is another great one by Javelin! This is a Fix-it with John moving back to England and trying to rebuild his relationship with Paul. They have a sexual past in this one but try to ignore it. Lol.

The Birthday Party by @merseydreams (46K): I know I said these were at least 50k, but I have to include this one bc it's probably my favourite McLennon fic. Another 70s AU (1980, actually). Ringo is having a birthday party and rents a house and John and Paul have to share a room. It's just so clever and funny and sweet. I don't know about you but when i read fic sometimes I end up skimming over parts, but you'll never do that with this author, you'll love every word.

nobody can deny that there’s something there by @theoldmixer (a modern A/U) (49K): I know a lot of people don't like McLennon AU and it annoys me that more people haven't read this fic! It's a good AU for those who are scared of AUs :) because it is still the Beatles, they're just in the modern era. Just all the stuff we love about them, but with twitter and google and therapy.

Going Nowhere by @inspiteallthedanger (100k): As you can tell, I like a Fix-it fic! This is an AU where John is still shot, but survives, and then comes back to England and he and Paul slowly rebuild their relationship.

Put My Heart Around the Bend by strwbryfeels (60K): This all takes place in 1960, a lot of it in Hamburg. It's John and Paul being dumb and pining for each other and Paul being jealous of Stu. All the good stuff!

It’s impossible for you to be in this corner of fandom and never have heard of Vir_Abelasan. She has written some of the most interesting Wangxian fics we have read, a shade darker than usual, but so engrossing. When we want to read something a little savory, we go back to this author.

Dee’s favourite: I love Symmetry but my favorite happens to be Like stones on an unseen board. I have a special fondness for dark LWJ who is just as devoted to WWX as canon LWJ is. This fic has the potential age difference and teacher-student relationship but they don’t really get together in it. I like that, I like how LWJ recognizes how Jiangs are dimming WWX’s light and does things to get WWX away from them, even if it involves manipulation and subtly widening the divide between the Jiangs and WWX. Dark in a way that eventually benefits WWX.

Ju’s favourite: Ohhh I loved Symmetry. I loved to see JC getting his just deserves by Sizhui. The fic is very dark, and in many moments I was completely blown away and so angry. I love when reading makes me feel things, and I felt a lot of things reading this one. But as dark as it gets in some points, it makes sense in the story. And then we get a happy ending that is so good and perfect. Made me cry.

The Interview:

Q. When did you start writing fics? Did you have fandoms before this one?

A. Somewhere around the early 2000s with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer fandom, and BtVS was very prolific with crossover, which just led to more fandoms, mostly Western TV series. I wrote a lot of the Dragon Age trilogy afterwards, and a lot of Pacific Rim before finding MDZS.

Q. What made you start writing for MDZS?

A. Honestly at first I was here for the porn, because the Wangxian porn is bountiful and tender and exquisite. But then I read the novel and was enamored with how much more nuanced everything was, especially the many recurring themes and motifs related to social classes and personal vs familial/communal responsibilities, which as an Asian person you don't often get to dig into in the oftentimes Western-leaning fandom spheres.

Q. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written?

A. In the MDZS fandom it's Symmetry, because it's literally the fic I wanted to read upon completing MDZS but was not able to find. One of the saddest thing in canon for me is the lack of consequences for any of the gentry cultivators' actions in the past, and while it's realistic to the world building, I just really want an alternative where someone could go around an inherently broken system and make it so perpetrators actually pay for their crimes and less people in general becomes collateral.

Q. What’s your favourite type of fics to read?

A. Smut, because I'm just really bad at writing it. And oh, how the MDZS fandom delivers - Pure smut, sad smut, painstakingly tender smut, existential smut, it has everything! But Wangxian smut in particular is almost always a treat because there's just always that undercurrent of trust and having a person who's just for you in every sense of the word despite everything else happening. It's such a good, affirming feeling.

Q. What’s your favourite comment? Or type of comment?

A. Any comment is always a delight! From just incoherent screaming to details of which lines spoke to them the most, every comment is a reaction and stories are out there to create conversation in the first place.

Q. What motivates you to write?

A. Writing has always felt like problem solving to me, and fanfics in general has always been really interesting to write because there's the inherent conflict and problems written into canon, but also the matter of the fandom's perception of the source material to play with and solve.

Q. Who’s your favorite author?

A. There's so many fanfic authors throughout the years who are just amazing and hit a lot of very profound places a lot of published works didn't go to, so it's really hard to choose just a few. But thank you, every single fan author out there, you've really made a lot of people's days (and lives) better with your writing.

Q. What is your favorite trope to read and/or write?

A. I'm particularly fond of the trope of characters who are normally amicable or accommodating just going apeshit, both literally or figuratively. Because both in fandom and in real life, kindness and compromise in someone are often mistaken as a free pass for others around them to be terrible.

Q. Do you have any advice for new authors?

A. Write what you feel strongly about, I guess? And it's sometimes helpful to have an objective to the whole thing, for the times when it seems the story is going nowhere or you get stuck in a particular aspect of it. Sort of like a thesis statement, so whenever you fumble you have something to refocus on.

Q. What do you think is the most important element in writing? Plot, characterization, relationship?

A. Characterization carries you a long way since they're the vehicle to bringing the readers to where you intend them to be, but I also feel like structure helps a lot with stories too. Just the way you scaffold a narrative, like laying down the kind of path you want your readers to follow and experience along the way to the end.

This is, hands down, one of the funniest fics I have ever read. I cried actual tears because of how funny this is. Slowish burn, but their banter will keep you engaged the whole time. I love this so much!!

This was a really funny smutfest and I loved that. I loved Rey and Ben so much, and Ben was the perfect “I hate everyone but you” boyfriend! I love this!

She Doesn’t Normally Bite - Single Parent/Teacher AU - WIP - Rated E - 37k

Ben Solo is a single dad to 6-year old Ellis. Her teacher isn't the old-cat lady that he expects and naturally, sparks fly when they meet. Rey helps show Ben that he is allowed to be happy and the romance is DELICIOUS. There will be the happy ending we all deserve.

Both Ben and Rey have a lot to navigate, and of course - things are never straight forward.

When her new neighbors at Supremacy Bootcamp start ruining her classes with their terrible music, she storms over to give them a piece of her mind. She challenges the beefy ex-Marine owner Ben Solo to a plank-off and the loser has to take the other's class. When they spark an unusual connection, can Rey stay away for long?

Has she bitten off more than she can chew with the gentle giant Alpha with the warm, sad eyes?

SMUT FREAKING FESTTTTT. Okay but I loved these two so much, even though I am opposed to working out in any shape or form! I love the non-traditional soulmate part, and I really loved Rey in this. 

Tea for Two - Enemies to Lovers, University Setting AU - Complete - Rated E - 67k 

'"This is a tea house, you know." The plummy, ultra-posh voice startled Rey Kenobi from her day-dreaming, almost spilling the scalding hot coffee over her chest.'

Rey, an American former hacker, turned cyber security expert, has been commissioned by Oxford University to protect their systems from hackers. Unfortunately, she has to work closely with Professor Ben Solo, Merton Professor of English Literature who also happens to be Lord Ben Solo, member of the English peerage. And an unmitigated snob.

She drinks coffee. He drinks tea. He only reads classic literature. She reads Marvel comics. He is nobility. She is a nobody.

Things should go swimmingly, shouldn't it?

SO. MUCH. UNRESOLVED. SEXUAL. TENSION. I loved the slow burn aspect because I sat in bed because I was waiting for them to bone for so long. And after they bone its a smut and fluff-fest I loved this so much!

And They Were Roommates - Roommates, A/B/O AU - Complete - Rated E - 49k

“This isn’t going to work.” He points a finger between the two of them. “This arrangement.”

Her eyes narrow. “You didn’t put any specifications on who could apply.”

Okay so this is pretty popular so I wont say too much, but it lives up to the hype. Smutfest, fluff and angst rolled into one beautiful fic! 

Bespoke - Enemies to Lovers, Boss/Employee (?) AU - Complete - Rated E - 38k 

When new stylist Rey Jackson receives a request to dress the hottest (and most unfashionable) new actor in Hollywood, she gets a lot more than she bargained for.

Mentally AND physically.

Because Ben Solo is freaking massive.

THIS WAS SO HOT OMG! Smutfest but also super cute. Another “I hate everyone but you” version of Ben I fell in love with. Loved this!

Incognito - Coworkers AU - Complete - Rated E - 30k

This was so funny! Ben and Rey were so cute, and I love Finn and Rose in this too! This was great!

A Home For Christmas - Single Parent, Sugar Daddy AU - Complete - Rated E - 109k

Rey is a struggling single mother who needs to do right by her daughter, even if it means she needs to steal. Ben is sad and lonely, recently divorced for the second time. When Rey's daughter picks him to help her find her mom, their paths cross and their Christmas becomes a little more bright.

This was so freaking cute OMG!! I know I say that a lot, but this was so adorable! I loved Ben and Rey so much, but Nova was obviously the star of the show. I cannot recommend this enough!

Unsuppressed - Office, A/B/O AU - Complete - Rated E - 49k

Rey had only ever encountered two Alphas in her entire life that had been unsuppressed. And now this third one that stunk up the entire building. Not that it stunk, his scent. In fact, it was the most delicious thing Rey had ever smelled. ///////////////////////////////////// Ben Solo closed his eyes as he rode down the elevator from the 40th floor to the lobby, trying not to reach up to his glands to scratch them. Somehow, it felt like he always caught the elevator that was dripping in the Omega’s scent. The one that wandered around the building without any suppressants. The one that smelled better than any Omega he had ever smelled before.

STRAIGHT FLUFF AND SMUT OMFG!!! I loved this so freaking much! This was whatever the opposite of unresolved sexual tension and slow burn. Like Ben and Rey tried to make this a slow burn but they could not keep their hands off of each other. I loved this!

Sunshine and Gunpowder - Hitman, Surprise Parents AU - Complete - Rated E - 48k

She’s a teacher who would do anything to protect her student. He’s a glorified hitman with a heart of black gold.

Together, they make up odd halves of a beautiful whole.

THIS WAS SO CUTE!! Like, yes, I know Ben is a hitman, but when I tell you he was the softest hit man I have ever read, Temiri was so cute in this! I loved Ben and Rey, and their UST made me love them even more. Han and Leia are also hilarious in this! 

It Takes a Village - A/B/O, Surprise Parents AU - Complete - Rated E - 40k 

Who knew that all it would take for Rey Johnson to interact with her enigmatic Alpha neighbor without wanting to melt into a puddle of hormones was a baby being abandoned at her doorstep?

Not her. That was for sure.

LIST OF THE BEST FANFICS OF ALL TIME (according to me)

Since we are in quarentine and because of that I’ve reverted to my 2014 tumblr self and have started indulging in fanfics again, and since I’ve read ALOT of them, I decided to make a list and compile the best fanfiction I have ever read. This list is not in any type of ranking or affiliated to one specific fandom, so it’s a bit of a mess. (I will also direct you to the author’s AO3 page, and tumblr if I can find it).

Why do I think this fics are the BEST of the BEST? Well, either, they could be turned into a book and become a best seller by simply changing names, or I think the author has a HUGE potential in becoming a published author. 

Also if you guys think there are fics that are on the level of this ones please PLEASE rec them to me, I don’t care what fandom they are from.

THINGS HAVE GOTTEN CLOSER TO THE SUN by Starseas

Fandom: One Direction Pairings: Harry Styles/Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne/Zayn Malik Genre/tags: Future fic, end of the world AU Rating: Mature Words: 49k   Summary:  When a solar flare is announced to end the world in twelve days, Harry reunites with the people that he used to know better than the back of his own hand.

Notes: I no longer read fanfiction involving real people, but this still remains on being one of the best fics I’ve ever read so I had to put it here. So, first of all, I LOVE this author, I used to follow her on tumblr and read everything she published. If I’m not mistaken her tumblr is deserted and she hasn0t posted anything in a long time, but I sincerily hope that she decided to move to writing and publish original works. Second of all, this fic is phenomenal, she somehow manges to portray a sense of despair under the whole romance plot. I cried in the end.

IRREPARABLE by aslightstep (WIP, abandoned?)

Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) Pairings: Tony Stark/Steve Rogers Genre/tags: Fix it Fic, Canon compliant Rating: General Audiences Words: 131k Summary: Forgiveness is a journey, or so Tony was maybe told a long time ago. He doesn't know about any of that and doesn't particularly care to. In the wake of civil war, the Avengers remain, as do their enemies. And Tony Stark rebuilds, as always.He destroys the phone, he burns the letter. But he can't (he won't) eliminate Steve Rogers from his mind.

Notes: Ok, I know I shouldn’t be recommending any abandonded works, but I am recommending this one anyway because the characters depiction are on point!! Tony’s stuborness really shows and it’s all so... realistic? Like it could have actually happened in the comics or in the MCU. It’s a beautiful slow burn, like extremely slow burn, and I just wish the author didn’t left it behind.

THE KUBBLER-ROSS THEORY by antivenom

Fandom: The Amazing Spiderman, Deadpool Pairings: Gwen Stacy/Peter Parker, Peter Parker/Wade Wilson (barely)  Genre/tags: Drama, Canon compliant, Grief Recovery Rating: Teen and Up Audiences Words: 80k Summary: Peter deals with a loss that immobilizes him and permeates through every drawn breath. In which his grief is a visceral abstraction that he can touch, that he can feel. And in which, with a little help, with time, with acceptance, with anger, with sadness, with Wade, he learns how to live in a world without her.

Notes: The way this author describes and deals with the subject of grief is so real. It’s amazing the way she portrays Peter way of coping with his guilt, her death, and everything in his life. It is incomparable to any other fic or BOOK I have ever read. Also this is the first part of a series, so I’d definitely read it if you are into really good slowburn Spideypool.

BRIGHT HAIR ABOUT THE BONE by MissDisoriental

Fandom: Hannibal (TV) Pairings: Will Graham/Hannibal Lecter Genre/tags: A/B/O Dynamics, case fic Rating: Explicit Words: 484k Summary: In a world where omegas are little more than trophies to be bought and sold, Will Graham has done the unthinkable by escaping a forced bonding. Notes: Yes, this fic is half a million words, no I don’t regret staying awake two days in a row just to finish it. Also, yes, I know it’s ABO. I usually don’t read ABO because I don’t like mpreg, but I made an exception for this one because it’s just that good. The way this author writes is so in sync with the series vibe. The descriptions, the way Hannibal speaks and acts, the way Will goes about the situation, this is just amazing.

TWIST AND SHOUT by gabriel and standbyme (@chubbyhawke)

Fandom: Supernatural Pairings: Castiel/Dean Winchester Genre/tags: 60′s AU, War Rating: Explicit Words: 97k Summary: What begins as a transforming love between Dean Winchester and Castiel Novak in the summer of 1965 quickly derails into something far more tumultuous when Dean is drafted in the Vietnam War. Though the two both voice their relationship is one where saying goodbye is never a real truth, their story becomes fraught with the tragedy of circumstance. In an era where homosexuality was especially vulnerable, Twist and Shout is the story of the love transcending time, returning over and over in its many forms, as faithful as the sea.

Notes: Obviously you don’t need an introduction to this one being that it’s the 2nd most kudosed work in AO3 and the most famous fanfiction in the Supernatural fandom. This fic BROKE me, like, actually full on sobbing BROKE me (my dad thought I was about to have a panic attack). It’s an understatement to say I recommend it. I don’t know where this authors are but I sincerly hope they become published one day.

MURDER WITH THE DEVIL AND FRIENDS by MindfulWrath (@mindfulwrath)

Fandom: Achievement Hunter, Rooster Teeth Pairings: Micheal Jones/Ryan Haywood Genre/tags: Western AU, Fake AH crew AU, Murder Mystery, horror Rating: Teen and Up Audiences Words: 205k Summary: Deputy Michael's been working in the little shithole town of Achievement City for a little over a year now. Things have been pretty decent so far (apart from that one creepy coworker), but they're about to get a lot more interesting, and a lot more dangerous.

Notes: Remember when I said i no longer read fanfics about real people? Well, this is, yet again, the exception. This fic just kept popping on my dashboard and after the 8th time I saw it I decided “fuck it”, and opened the link.  Also, remember when I said this ranking isn’t in any specific order? I lied because this is my favorite fanfiction of all time, and I think it’s the best one out there. This fic just get’s under your skin. You feel that somethings wrong from the begining, the mood it sets in just the first paragraph pulls you in and doens’t let you go until it’s done. I have NEVER got so much into any book or fanfic like I have gotten lost in this one. How is it possible that I manage to hate and love Ryan so much in this depiction of him?  This is also the first part of a trilogy called Devil’s Clockwork, and the rest is just as good as this one. Mindfulwrath, I hope you are reading this, and I hope you know how good of a writer you are, and I hope you publish some day, I’ll be the first one to buy anything you publish.

I’ll Find You by Awriterwrites / @a-writerwrites (16K, E) I know you said no American characterizations, but I’m including this as it’s one of the very few kid fics I really like. If you’ve ever just felt taken for granted and overlooked, this one might speak to you.

Make Your Words a Weapon by @helloamhere (36K, E) this author is one of my favorites so if you try this and like her style, I’m telling you...go read them all. This one is a soulmate fic that deals with a number of different kids of anxiety and trust issues and it’s so beautifully handled. I’ve read it more than once and each time I like it more than the last.

Lightening Strikes Twice by @dinosaursmate (100K, E) while this has some super hot smut and rockstar Harry/groupie Louis, it also has older Larry, frank conversations about death, aging, sexual dysfunction, and falling in love as an “mature adult”. This is another one I’ve read more than once and I really have such a soft spot for this author’s older version of H/L

Into The Deep Below by writeivywrite (19K, E) complicated emotions, sexual awakening, moving from casual sex to navigating the beginning of a polyamory relationship, Harry/Louis/Zayn. The writing in this one is really gorgeous and feels much more like a novella than your usual fic.

We’re What’s Right In This World by BriaMaria / @briannamarguerite (49K, E) WWII, PTSD, beautifully written, made me cry like a fool, heartbreaking, redemptive, lovely lovely fic.

So here we are. By @sweariwouldnt (3.5K, NR) this canon fic is such a beautifully written portrait of Harry and Louis’ evolving and complex relationship. I love it.

Saved Tonight by objectlesson (31K, E) I really loved the deep discussion of art and fandom and LGBTQ+ representation.

like a bastard on the burning sea by vashtaneradas (22K, NR). If you can read cheating fics, this is an absolute must. The writing is stellar, the heartbreak is beyond painful. I love this one, but don’t say I didn’t warn you. This author is one of my favorites, so if you like that one, check through the other dozen or so fics they have. Reeling through the midnight streets is another one that’s at the top of my list — it’s just beautiful.

It’s a Rare Condition by gloria_andrews / @gloriaandrews (7K , E) Louis/Marcel. I thought this had such great descriptions of love and intimacy and self-discovery. Plus, it’s sexy af.

Long Road To Love Leads Back To You by myownspark / @myownsparknow (10K, E) Beautifully written exploration of longing and sadness and love.

Tug-of-War by @cherrystreet (63K, E) this one deals really well with everything that comes along with the death of a spouse and falling in love again. Such good writing.

Landslide by aimmyarrowhigh, spibsy (lucy_and_ramona) (143K, E) I’m adding this even though it’s set in America and even though I don’t personally love it (because 70s hippies and communes are my childhood and it was too hard for me to compartmentalize) but these authors write really well and it’s a complex and challenging story that fits a lot of what you’re looking for. Characters are really well developed, but may be quite OOC for some people. Read the tags.

Which is fine, obviously, except for it means that Steve and Bucky don't have his words, and it only takes him a few minutes to decide they don't need to know he has theirs. Scientific Heresy by Antigrav_vector Mature, 34k In the process of running the particle accelerator in his basement and fixing the arc reactor, Tony finds himself flung into the past where he has to take on a fight not his own if he wants to get home to stop Vanko. At least he had a chance to replace the old rector that had been killing him with the new one before everything went sideways... But now he has no choice but to face off with family, friends, and old heroes, and none of that sounds remotely appealing. Well, okay, getting to meet them all during their glory days kinda does.

AAAA Ok, I love time travel stories, so i might be biased a little, but this is the best!! There’s a lot of action scenes which are great and engaging. It’s a must read. 

That Damn Flight Suit by Orphan Account Explicit, 2k James and Steve make a very interesting discovery about what really is under the Iron Man suit. Cue awkward boners, oblivious Tony, and slightly possessive super-soldiers who really don't want to share his...assets... with the world.

This isn’t exactly time travel, but I use every excuse I can to talk about this story because it was one of my firsts and still one of my favourites to this day. It’s an age-regression piece, so it’s time travel-esque because Harry’s a different age, maybe? It’s just so good and such a beautiful story between these two. Sorry, haha, I’ll get to the legitimate time travel ones after this, don’t worry.

More than a year after Voldemort’s defeat, Harry is still having nightmares about Snape’s death.  When his dreams gradually begin to change, so do his perceptions.  Ultimately, Harry discovers that when one lives in both the past and the future, it’s difficult to find one’s present.

This is a strange twist on ‘time travel’ as it begins with Harry travelling somewhere in his dreams and slowly becoming more corporal and such. It’s a fascinating, powerful, and beautiful love story between him and a younger, impressionable, and lonely Severus. I highly recommend it. One of my favs!

Now, this is a classic. At least, I think it is. This seems like such a famous one for me, and it’s well-deserved. It’s a very beautiful story (I’m probably going to say that for all of them). It’s a tad confusing, with the shifts in time and the back-and-forth, but it’s so worth it. Their love is so intense, and the physics of it is so intriguing. I read it all in one sitting, which is not something I usually do for a fic this long. Great, great read, a must in this community.

Okay, I’m really excited because I just found this in the depths of my bookmarked works, and I remembered just how good it was! This is another iffy one because it’s not technically time travel, but present-age Harry is communicating with a younger Severus, so it still counts to me. Give this one a chance for sure, because it’s so sweet. It’s very angsty, since it’s set just before and during the battle, so just be warned. Something to note with me, though, all of my recs will have a happy ending of some sort. I don’t like unsatisfying or sad ones.

Severus Snape wasn’t supposed to die. Neither was Harry Potter.

Oh my god, this one. This is absolutely incredible. One of the best. It’s such a unique and imaginative story, and their love is so precious. You can literally feel it with every word, it’s so obvious that they cherish each other. The story itself, like, aside from the romance is also fascinating. There’s a very cool mystery that has a lot of twists and turns to figure out, and the story is written so whenever you think you have the answer, you’re just as mistaken as the characters themselves. Fabulous read.

Escaping the Paradox by Meri (35k+ words | complete)

After Harry is thrown back in time to 1971, he has several choices to make.

This is another brilliant piece. It’s quintessential Snarry time travel. I always have a soft spot for younger Severus and Older Harry, it’s just such a strange and fun dynamic. And trust me, this Severus is still the same ol’ Sev. It’s so full of humour, canon story references, and sweet love. It’s a very satisfying read, I have nothing bad to say about it.

When Harry is accidentally sent back to Hogwarts 1982, he discovers a more bitter and angrier Snape than he knew in his school years. Tasked by Dumbledore with teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts and befriending Snape, as well as finding out how to get back, Harry knows he is in store for a difficult year. Despite their arguing, Harry can’t help but find himself drawn to Snape. If Harry and Snape can get over their past and learn to be just a little selfish, their relationship may stand a chance.

This. This. THIS. God, this one has such a special place in my heart. These four chapters ripped my soft little heart apart. It was so good. The boys really struggle in this one, but the more intensely they fight, the more intensely they love. They are meant for each other in every way here, and it’s leaves you with such a good feeling. Couldn’t recommend this more, it’s, well…perfect.

This is one I’ve admittedly only read through once. I really need to read it again and experience this delightful story once more. This was is definitely fluffier than the others. The ending, oh, it makes me just melt. The boys are absolute fools in love, and it’s just too good. I love this story, and it looks a lot longer than it is. Nineteen chapters went by in an instant for me. 

Original Sin by Dementordelta (14k+ words | complete)

Leave it to Harry Potter to interfere with every aspect of Severus Snape’s life–and death.

This is completely not at all as morbid as it might sound! It’s not exactly time travel, but Severus and Harry both died and are in an Eden-esque setting, which is good enough for me. This one is way happier than a lot of this lot, despite its summary. It’s actually quite fun, and Death (yes, Death is a character) is absolutely hysterical. This fic is worth the read just for him, if I’m honest. It’s all good, but I love a smutty, comedic fic that doesn’t take itself so seriously. Not cracky, though, just funny.

After Nagini’s attack Severus wakes to find himself in an impossible future. Married to The Boy Who Lived, Severus sets out to discover a way to keep himself from making the same mistake twice, because surely no sane version of Severus Snape would EVER fall in love with the arrogant brat.

Another hidden gem I had forgotten about until just now. This one was always so intriguing! The slightly confusing angst still tugs at my heartstrings on the beginning, but seriously, the love story here is so beautiful. Severus relearning just why he fell in love with Harry Potter is just… There’s nothing better. Very, very touching story.

Luv, I really have to thank you for this ask because it’s reminding me of so many lovely stories I haven’t read in ages! This one is definitely a strange one, but in a good way. Like the summary states, it’s canon-compliant Snarry. Stuff like that just butters my eggroll, it really does. The writing is absolutely incredible, and I can’t dany that I’m so, so, so in love with this love story. It’s some good slow-burn, and it’s worth every second of reading and waiting.

This is a new one in my collection, so again, I’ve only read it once. However, it was fan-tas-tic. Literally, I couldn’t stop reading. I was so fascinated by Harry’s grief and mourning process. Every character was so developed and so well-written, I loved every second of it. Bittersweet, but very hopeful ending as well, which is all I need. As long as they’re together, anything is possible for these two lovebirds.

Harry always thought soul mates were the domain of overly-soppy romantics. What he didn’t realise was that they were very real, very dangerous, and very inconvenient…especially when your soul mate is the very dead Severus Snape. Fortunately, with the help of his friends and a Time Portal, he’s able to get past that pesky obstacle…and finds his life completely changed.

I’m not going to go super in depth about this one because you’ll never shut me up if I do that. Let me just say: read this one. If you read nothing else on this list, please, please read this one. It is so worth it. Soulmates and time travel? Ugh, it’s so good. Their love is so powerful and so beautiful, I cannot get enough of the two of them. It also follows the canon storyline (obviously, from the ‘very dead Severus Snape’ line), so the angst is strong in the one. But stick with it, it’s such a satisfying read.

Similar issue to the other person. My ex-gf broke up with me about 8 months now, and I'm still nowhere near over it, or no less in love with her than I was when we were together. I still think about her every single day and cry over it a lot. I just still miss her so badly, I feel like it's never going to go away and I'm never going to want to be with anyone else because no one else is ever going to compare. Being with her was the only time I've ever felt properly happy and now I'm just empty.

september 9, 2015. i still remember a certain date that’ll haunt. it’s not just a simple day. two failed relationships later, nights with nothing but drugs. a few thousand poems. days where i go to art museums alone. running a poetry blog with 49k followers. buying nice things so i’ll feel less alone. i made some nice friends, each have given me a new meaning of home. i used to be 180 something, now i’m like 141 and i change more and more each day. the gym is just an excuse so that i don’t lose myself anymore. i still buy drugs. i still smoke to die. but you know, it doesn’t hurt as much anymore. sometimes when a song hits me hard, yeah i sit there and cry. i go to places that we used to go to, but it doesn’t feel the same. i take the long way home, sometimes the scenic route. after all of this time, i still love her, but we must move on. even if it hurts, we must move forward. that’s the only way, the only real way to get over it. put on your most brilliant fake smile and laugh the day away. heartache, lovelorn. if you let depression swallow you alive, you’re going to feel it. people change. we change. you need to learn to let go. to love yourself. to love you. to wait. because i have faith in myself. i’m learning about it all. i’m not the same person. i’m not. i have filled my life with bad habits and good habits, we’re flawed. and it’s okay. to search for them when night arrives, but you must not forget to look for yourself too. i’m not saying that poetry and empty art galleries will fix everything. i’m not saying that buying things will make you feel better. or buying cologne so that you’ll smell good for yourself. or buy a piano to play sad songs. it doesn’t matter how you get there, it just matters that you do get there. i watch inspiration videos to get my ass off of my bed. i force my depression to smile. i force my poetry to feel pretty. i force happiness and that is my problem. i suck at letting go, but everyday that it counts. everyday that i’m here. it just gets better even if i can’t see it at this very fucking moment. it’s a step towards the right direction. so when i think about her, it doesn’t hurt as much. i can’t visualize her face, i’ve gotten rid of the pictures. i can’t read her words, i’ve gotten rid of the love letters. i can’t erase her, but i can try. and maybe i’ll run into her some day, with my head down. she’ll probably recognize me, she might not. maybe we do still love each other, in some young spirited way, maybe we don’t. i’ve changed and i may bury my progress in self hate most days, but the days when i finally accept that i’m trying to do better for myself. i feel great. i want to heal from this. and until you want to heal from this too, you’ll never change. i kissed a girl last month and you know what she told me? that i need to kiss more girls, to not be so hurt. to just do things, just to fucking do things. create more experiences for myself. to be more of myself. you know what. she was right.
