Happy Birthday Kaito! Since the folks at @shownohajimarida granted us a look at the magazine cover for chapter 3 that had a Kid that hasn't been featured among Gosho's art before, I wanted to isolate him and clean up his suit a bit. So I did! A month ago, because I do things impulsively without actually thinking about planning things out, but shh.

#my edit #kaitou kid #The remaster artists have more skill in making things pretty for Magic Kaito manga #But edits are fun to do every now and again #I'm sure he's still dirty; at least in the actual coloured parts from the neck down #If Gosho wants to ever add this one (and the skateboarding Kaito and the Kaito and Aoko under a hat etc) to a future gallery #I think we'd all appreciate it #(But I also have a feeling that the really old art wasn't preserved in a way that could easily be put in a clean MK art section)#Some of it was. But the further back the art; the less likely to see an official prettied up version; methinks #-flops- I did so many unplanned errands today I almost forgot I had this to post

Glad you found me and are enjoying my comic!

It's only on webtoons, and the story is not complete yet! We're 2/3 of the way through right now. It's currently on hiatus, and it's scheduled to come back in about 2 months!

I'll explain why it's been so long if you're curious, but also for my followers who might also be wondering about it under the cut. Sorry, it's pretty much just me complaining haha

I took a month off I took 2 months to get the books printed I took a month to prepare my next comic and I took 2 months to write the rest of the series (I knew the character arcs I wanted, but not the time periods or mysteries!!!) I've been working on actual episodes since then

I had to take some time off because of some pretty extreme burnout due to the sheer amount of work it was to draw over 800 pages and write 6 complete stories in a year and a half... I was getting sick almost weekly due to the overwork, it was really really bad honestly. I was having to work 60+ hours every week just to keep up...

The nature of the comic itself is also difficult... Each of the arcs is a complete, self contained story which can be read (ideally) without context, and my arcs need to be about 10-13 episodes each... And since I have an exact number of episodes to work with, it's even harder.

It takes a ton of planning and a ton of refinement, and working week to week with no breaks I was forced to put out second or even first drafts, so I just wasn't happy with the work I was doing... And to do that for the rest of the series? I wouldn't be proud of the work I did.

Plus... To be entirely honest, webtoon has treated me quite badly IN MY OPINION... They deprioritized me before I launched (I had to beg for more promotion, I'm not exaggerating), they outright denied me the opportunity to even ask for a raise, I don't make any money on fast pass and they pay me less than my partner makes working at trader joes. My first editor left me completely hanging, my second editor (who I loved) was fired... And they told me I wouldn't get a third season before my first season even finished. So it was just repeatedly completely demoralizing.

I'm sorry it has taken so long, it'll have been 10 months by the time I come back. But I realized... I won't get promotion either way. I won't get more episodes either way. I won't get more money either way. So to finish everything, to make it feel good, to make it something I'm proud of, I chose to take longer to make it better.

I am fully aware I will lose a significant amount of my readership for this and it might genuinely affect my career moving forward. But it's what I had to do! So I'm sticking to my guns on it, and I'm confident long term it'll be worth it. It never could have been this good if I didn't take this much time.

confession: look, on the one hand, I like Spider, I do. He’s an interesting character and I agree that the hate he gets in some corners of the fandom is absolutely ridiculous. He’s not a backstabber or villainous or a flip-flopper or whatever other bullcrap, he’s an orphan kid in an alien world trying to find somewhere to belong, the hate is silly.

but.

I’m growing equally tired of seeing posts with an attitude of trying to guilt-trip people for not viewing him as a member of the Sully family. Canonically, he simply isn’t (sorry, but the movie directly, explicitly stating “he wasn’t part of our family” outweighs concept art with an “unofficial adoption” songcord bead).

The Sully family is very personally meaningful to me right now, so naturally I want to focus my energy on them. Spider is of course a close friend of the family, so sometimes he will be included just like Norm or other characters are sometimes included, but I’m not going to go out of my way to shove him in every single time...and quite frankly, the more I see folks acting like it’s somehow problematic to not consider Spider a member of the Sully family (which again canonically he isn’t), the less I want to do stuff that includes him :/

#and again it's not because i have anything against Spider himself #i'm just tired of being coerced into considering him a Sully when he isn't #like. back last year before the movie came out we all THOUGHT Jake and Neytiri raised Spider due to misreporting in an article #and I was fine with considering him part of the family because I thought that was canon #hence some of my very early art where he is depicted as officially adopted #BUT then the comics and later the movie came out and showed that the article was mistaken #jake and neytiri didn't adopt or raise him (nor were they obligated to but that's a topic for another post)#he was just a close friend of the family; particularly kiri and lo'ak #so now i don't consider or depict him as a member of the family...because turns out he isn't #and yes i acknowledge that in future movies he might well get officially taken into the family #in fact at the moment I'd say that's pretty likely #and i'm fine with that!#but most of my work focuses on the time between a1 and a2 when the kids were still young so #whether or not spider gets taken in post-wow is kinda irrelevant to it :P #-whew- sorry this has been brewin' for a while #spider socorro #sully family

fucking hell this is why i tend to use rust. i'm trying to find a library for the tumblr API in C# and there's one that's years old and using old standards so i tried seeing how hard it is to make one and immediately ran into the fact that C# cannot deserialise discriminated unions without having to write custom deserialisers because it just doesn't support that as a language feature

frustrated, i said fuck it and had a look to see if there was one in rust. there is, and it's been updated recently, so i can go in and make PRs if i need to. i cannot escape this language
