Working on the Alex pov fic has merged into thinking about Bucky after Gale escaped. On one hand having someone out there waiting for him might give him the drive he needs to keep going and not self-destruct, but it’s also hard to keep away the thoughts that maybe Gale didn’t make it, especially when he starts having nightmares of not being able to stop that guard from shooting, watching Gale fall.

Enter Alex who finds Bucky in one such nightmare during the march or in the transit camp, and they end up talking into the night. They start hanging out more and when Alex gets sick Bucky is his shadow taking protective care of him at every step.

Now there’s a big lost puppy of a major that has imprinted on Alex and at first this new pair-off strikes the guys as unusual, but they quickly realize that Bucky needs someone to take care of. By extension then he gets adopted into the Tuskegee group. Macon and DeMarco are already their own duo, leaving Daniels and Brady who are literally polar opposites just looking at each other like “ok I guess this is the situation now.” And eventually they figure out how to get along, like two cats that have to get used to living together. Meanwhile Alex and Bucky are on top of each other at all times.

Alex is feisty too in a way that Gale isn’t so they do get in spats a lot, but it’s good for them. Bucky might need the tough love and straight talk from someone who doesn’t avoid confrontation, and Alex needs someone who’s a literally guard dog but also caring and focused on him.

All this to say I really want to explore the Alex-Bucky dynamic development that led to them being buddies in the last episode.

The whole greatsword scabbard discourse gets me because, like, we know the answer to this one. We've got primary sources talking about it. The answer to "how do you carry a weapon that's more than a yard or so long" is:

If you don't think you'll need it on short notice and you're lucky enough to have access to a wagon or other means of transport, you don't carry it at all – you stick it in the wagon.

If you do think you'll need it on short notice or you don't have a wagon, you just carry it in your hands everywhere you go and constantly complain about how dumb and awkward that is, unless you're a professional mercenary and/or independently wealthy, in which case you hire a guy to follow you around carrying it in his hands everywhere you go and he complains about how dumb and awkward that is (though probably not while you're listening).

Couldn’t stop thinking about Dust being able to pass as Classic. So I had an idea where Dust replaces Classic in a timeline and steals(?) his partner.

He gets conflicted when he starts actually caring about you… But denial is an easy road to take when there’s seemingly no consequences to your actions.

The reveal i guess. Most normal reaction to learning your partners been replaced for god knows how long and you have no clue where he is.

Now that I think about it I might’ve gotten some inspiration from that one chapter of IJAG by @htsan (iykyk) only a lil bit tho
