Why must all the really cool stuff I want to buy off Etsy be in the US, and why must shipping for each individual thing be so damn expensive? đ
I gotta find a service that'll let me get everything shipped to them and send it to me in one single package
Or. Ya know. Make more American friends and then get good enough friends with them to share names and addresses?
. . . . . Lemme go Google how to make friends real quick đ
#duckpond stuff#i am suffering#so much cute stuff#so many stickers and charms and acrylics and posters#even found one hubby doesnt immediately hate that i could pin up#but its ÂŁ30 plus ÂŁ25 shipping. and i dont love it quite that much by itself#vaguely unrelated but i also need to work out how to get one of Joe Zieja's Three Hopes Claude prints#i got his two Houses ones by backing his 3 Houses 4 Saxes kickstarter. but the Hopes one is so pretty#TT___TT

random little merch update i guess:
merch items will never take Creative Priority over my silly projects like cookiefish or the analog horror or video essays or Out of Game/Save Game or one off things like the puppet show. or even just Generally Drawing and Animating. but it is my job!! so it takes some form of priority! but that doesnât mean i canât have fun with it!
in terms of small merch items, iâm currently working on migrating all of my stuff from etsy to the same BigCartel that the captcha bags are currently on. this involves taking nicer photos of everything and bumping the prices down since etsy just straight up steals the money of sellers and i wonât have to worry about that anymore on bigcartel!
new stuff is also on the way! i have some Genesis Frog quicksand shaker charms being made, some Mettaton CD charms, and iâll probably make some charms of my Mayor sticker because there needs to be more Mayor merch in the world. once the dave polaroid drawings are all done iâm gonna print those and have those as a fun polaroid set, like the ones on the omori merch site! ive got a general mettaton drop planned as well, including the CD charms but also some normal acrylic charms, some poster prints, and some other stuff! iâve also got some handmade stuff in the works, small homestuck trinkets for display (that i think are quite funny) and cute little hand sewn dice bags themed after characters and HS aspects!
in terms of Big Merch. of course the pink and purple bags are still being made!! just waiting on those, but they should be all done soon and then i get 500 bags in my house to ship out one by one :p EEK
i have the blue and yellow samples now, and those come right after iâve shipped out every pink and purple one!
i also have the consort pastel sweater and the horrorterror black sweater! i have the consort one already, and iâm currently getting a sample made for the horrorterror one. i honestly have no clue whennnn i will be able to open preorders for those because iâll have to slot them in between bag drops (blue and yellow and then. black and red or whatever other mystery color i choose for that one. and then pink and purple again)⌠but iâll figure that out!
and then after those. hoo boy. i have another piece of apparel in the works⌠non homestuck this time!! itâs an undertale thing that ISNT mettaton! i can do other things!! see!! itâll be both a button up short sleeved shirt and a nice pullover sweater. but i have a bad bad habit of taking on tooooo many projects at once (i am the most stressed and depressed guy of all time right now) so that one comes LATER. Later. we will get to it when we get to it!! after all these other thangs
so ya!! projects on projects on projects cuz i gotta pay bills but if i become a âcontent creatorâ iâll [REDACTED] so!! iâm excited about all of these! these will all be fun even tho they are stressful :)
and ofc my other non merch projects. my normal art stuff. will continue forever and ever !!!!
i donât really have a good pinned post describing who i am and what i do, or even a decent website (i have a carrd i guess) that puts all of my projects in one place. so iâm currently working on a funky website as well! so hopefully soon all of the stuff i make will be in one spot for ease of uh. looking at them HEHEHE

OtakuFest diary
OtakuFest was great!!! Probably the most fun I've had at a convention so far, and it was my personal best in terms of sales. (Keep in mind this is only my fifth convention overall and I'm still small potatoes, so that is some very necessary context.) Met loads of nice people, participated in my first stamp rally - the decision to join the stamp rally was EXTREMELY last minute but it worked out fabulously. Met loads of kind and appreciative people. Picked up some commissions, which was unexpected. Made new friends. Can't gush enough about the experience. Miami Beach traffic is a fucking mess though. Thanks 2 @neopetting for getting my fragile ass through it and for also helping me learn how to be an Instagram hashtag gangstar because I still LOATHE Instagram Below is a picture of my table. I have a few adjustments to make in the future: in particular, next time, I need to make sure that my posters are better elevated. The crossbar I utilized is still much too short. I'm still waiting on a new honeycomb acrylic charm display in the mail but it's trapped in customs. I think in the future I'll move the A5 prints to the magazine rack and then hang the letter sized prints up with the posters, in order to accommodate other merchandise like lanyards, pillows, etc. I'm also going to get rid of the center table runner so the bumblebee tablecloth is better displayed, and so the bright yellow table runners on the left and right lead the eye up to the other merchandise.
Up next is the second Goblin Market!!! Peace Some statistics, because I enjoy sharing them: Top selling poster: Rowlet cake
Top selling letter print: Vespiquen
Top selling miniprint: Op-Op Fruit
Top selling sticker: Honey toast
Top selling button: Edgelord Warning
Top selling charm: TeddyTiel/Pukei-Pukei (tied between the two - didn't sell many acrylic charms)
Prints, particularly the mini-prints (and even more particularly the Akuma no Mi), constituted the majority of my sales. I sold comparatively fewer stickers, buttons, and charms. Which was really, really weird, but that's probably because I didn't have many charm or button designs in comparison to the other stuff.

As someone who works in printing/manufacturing I want to give some input from the other side of the counter.
First off: there are a lot of print shops out there where you can get things made, thereâs really no reason to use the same ones as other artists. For prints, posters, etc, any print shop will do, even Staples. Theyâve got decent prices and fast turnaround times, usually. And most products can be picked up in store to avoid shipping costs.
Seriously: go to a local shop as often as you can, to avoid shipping costs. (Unless you can find someplace online cheaper, despite the shipping)
For T-shirts: screen printing shops are pretty common these days, so try to find a local one. Doesnât have to be big. Most places use the same shirts (usually Gildan) and the same printing method. Keep in mind that for screen printing, each color is printed via a different screen, so the more colors in your design the more expensive it will be. Shops usually charge a âframe feeâ for each color, around 40-80 dollars each. Anything more than 6 colors is kinda pushing it and anything more than 12 might not be possible. If you want a shirt that has a full color print or gradients, thatâs not screen printing, thatâs Direct to Garment (or the newer Direct to Film). Screen-printing shops may or may not have that available youâll just need to ask around. Thereâs also sublimation, but that only works on light colored shirts so your design options are limited. Ask your screen-printer what your options are. No harm in shooting them an email with your design and asking if itâs printable.
Also screen print shops will not save the frames after the order is done- youâll be paying that frame free each time your order so plan accordingly.
People don't really like wearing white shirts.
When ordering shirt sizes: DONâT just get 10 or each size S to XXL or whatever. Sizes are in a bell curve, so get, for example, 3 small, 5 medium, 8 large, 5 XL, 3 XXL.
Donât try to buy your own shirts (or other materials) and bring it in to be printed- just donât, please. Printers can get the same thing cheaper and at a consistent quality, so let them handle it. (Also if a print messes up we can just get another blank from the back room instead of of ruining your shirt)
CustomInk is good but tbh a lot of their stuff is outsourced to local screen printing shops. You might be able to cut out the middle man and get it cheaper at a local shop.
^all that t-shirt stuff also applies to tote bags
Also keep in mind the print on a t-shirt can go up to 12 in x 16 in usually.
For stickers, try to find a place that sells vinyl or banners, like a print shop or trophy shop. They might also do bulk stickers of good quality. If there isnât a place like that locally, do research and find a store online.
Trophy shops are your friend! They often do a lot of different custom printing, so ask your local shop what they have available.
For buttons: try print shops or trophy shops. But honestly this one might be better to do at home, especially if youâre doing a lot of different little things. The materials are cheap, the prints can literally be made on a regular printer with regular paper, and a cheap button press costs about $100
For pins and acrylic charms: always order about 10% more than you need, especially if youâre ordering overseas. The industry has a 10% margin of error and not everyone does quality control. Any extras you get can be sold as B-grades or leftovers.
For plushies: I donât know anything about plushies. Sorry, youâre on your own for those.
Buying in bulk is always cheaper, so plan accordingly. Get an idea of how many you want before walking into a store.
Pretty much everything prints at 300 dpi, which means if you want to print a 5 in x 7 art print, your image needs it be AT LEAST 1500x2100 pixels, or else itâll come out pixelated and thereâs nothing anyone can do about it.
Also if something is going to be printed up to the edge of the material (like an art print) make sure thereâs .25 inches of safe space around all the edges- things in that space could get cut off, so no important details like writing.
I donât know how else to say this, but: KNOW WHAT YOU WANT BEFORE YOU ORDER. Have a design, know your size and material, know how many you want. CUSTOM printing means all these things change the price of the order and nothing can get started until you make these decisions.
Most shops will send you a mock-up (or âproofâ) before printing, so keep and eye on your email and respond in a timely matter if you want things to be printed in a timely matter. Of course, any changes you make to your product during the process could slow things down, but thatâs to be expected. Basically, if you make a dozen changes donât get mad that stuff isnât ready at the agreed time. (One or two changes are normal but please donât do a whole bunch if you donât have to)
Most places know what theyâre doing and donât want to bother with sending you a sample for something theyâve printed a thousand times (t-shirts, tote bags, acrylic charms, stickers). Look at their sample products and judge the quality of those. Theyâll send a mock-up instead. Anything that isnât just a printed blank is another story. Plushies, pins, and custom clothing (anything more complicated than a graphic tee), youâll probably want a sample. Any good shop would recommend a sample if itâs necessary.
You DO have to do your own research. Your budget and location are going to determine what shop works for you. Just decide what you want, google it, and make your own decision based on their prices.
My last piece of advice: START SMALL. Do one stack of art prints, one stack of stickers, the smallest batch of pins you can do- test out the shop and the product before going all in and wasting your money. Donât drop a ton of money and place a ton of orders unless youâve tried a shop and are confident in their abilities.
would anyone be interested if I made a breakdown post of reasons why merch artists don't share their manufacturers? it's oversimplified as "artists are just gatekeeping" in part because I think there's just not a lot of awareness that it's a significantly more complex situation and involves some level of risk compared to sharing simpler resources such as brushes
artists also don't tend to explain beyond "sorry, I don't share my manufacturers" (for good reason, they're not going to write an essay to answer a quick question) but maybe diving into the details will help people understand why so many merch artists are protective of their manufacturers and will not share with strangers
#Art advice#printing#I am weirdly passionate about this stuff#im an artist but Iâve never tried to sell prints or anything so for this post Iâm taking as a printer

Paper Mache House Ornament
Happy New Year! I am very excited to share with you one of my favorite crafts â the art of paper mache. Itâs gooey and sticky and a whole lot of fun! It utilizes simple materials, many of which are already in our homes. Iâm delighted by the versatility of this medium and the wide range of creative possibilities!
Today, I'll be sharing my instructions for making a paper mache house ornament. These instructions are easy to follow and produce a beautiful, unique result. Whether you are a seasoned crafter or a beginner, youâll enjoy creating these memorable, personalized gifts. Now, let's get started on our paper mache houses!
Since there are several stages to this project, I recommend making more than one house at a time. This will allow time to dry the paper mache layers thoroughly while gathering ephemera. Plus, youâll love your little house so much, youâll want to make more right away!Â
For inspiration, look at artist Linda O'Kaneâs work on Instagram. Her hand-painted spun cotton houses are positively charming and unique, and have become treasured collectorâs items!
To make sure you have all the elements you need for the project, I recommend gathering ephemera, book pages, vintage cancelled postage stamps, ribbons, and trims while the paper mache is drying.
Itâs gonna get messy! But thatâs part of the fun. Before you begin, cover your work area with kraft paper or newspaper. Also, tape a piece of freezer paper down to your work surface. Freezer paper is great because nothing will stick to it. You can also use the freezer paper as a palette for mixing acrylic paint later on.
Although the stage of adding layers of paper mache is somewhat time-consuming, itâs very worthwhile. Paper mache adds a soft, subtle texture resembling antique stucco. It also adds to the thickness of the house, softening all the points and right angles. And it adds strength to the house, making the ornament considerably more durable throughout the years (especially if enjoyed by young children!).Â
M A T E R I A L SÂ (Some of these are affiliate links):
House templates courtesy of deliacreates.com *
white poster board or heavy card stock
masking tape
Elmerâs Art Paste (mix prior to project) or homemade paper mache pasteÂ
Aileenâs Tacky Glue
Mod Podge Matte
hot glue
thin kraft paper
paint brushes
printed ephemera, old book pages, vintage wallpaper, stickers, book pages, cancelled postage stamps, postcards, washi tape, Dresden trims, fabric scraps
rubber stamps
acrylic paint or gouache
metal embellishments, buttons, ribbon, velvet flowers
Stickles
awl or large sewing needle
bone folder
X-Acto knife, stainless steel ruler and cutting mat
gold florist wire (or very thin wire)
* Deliaâs templates are created as SVG files, but can be scaled to the desired size and printed on a home printer. The houses Iâve made are about 4âł tall. I chose not to cut out the windows that were included on the template. Deliaâs templates are free for personal use.
D I R E C T I O N S :
1. Premix paste (or prepare an alternate paper mache paste).
2. Tear thin kraft paper into approximately 1â pieces. The more irregular, organic the shapes, the better.
3. Tear small 1â pieces of masking tape.
4. Cut florist wire, 1.5â long (1 piece for each house).
5. Loosely cut out the printed template pieces, scaled to desired size. Tape to poster board. Use a ruler and bone folder to score on the fold lines. Using an X-Acto knife, cut out the house, roof and chimney (Glue or tape together two layers for the roof to make it thicker).
6. Assemble house and chimney. For the house, begin by taping the side walls together first, and then the bottom.
7. Cover the assembled house, chimney and roof entirely with masking tape.
8. (Optional) To make the ornament hanger, use an awl or a large needle to make a small hole in the top center of the roof. Fold a piece of florist wire in half. Thread the folded loop through the hole in the roof, so that about Âźâ loop is showing above the peak of the roof. Secure the wire in place by taping the ends inside the roof.
9. Tape the chimney(s) onto the roof.Â
10. Cover the house with paper mache. Separately, cover the roof and chimney. To begin the process, dip the torn kraft paper into the paste. Hold it over the bowl and use two fingers to squeegee the excess paste off. Add a second layer of paper mache. Allow to dry for 24 hours, if possible.
11. (Optional) Paint the house creamy white with acrylic paint. Paint the roof and chimney the desired colors.
12. Glue background ephemera on to the house. This will be the base layer for all of the other elements youâll be adding on top.Â
13. Use hot glue or quick dry glue to adhere dimensional elements, like ribbon, fabric scraps, buttons and Dresden trims. Add glitter and gems.
14. Use hot glue or quick dry glue to adhere the roof to the house. If using hot glue, only a few dots are necessary to secure it. In order to get the correct positioning, adhere one panel of the roof, and then adhere the other panel onto the house.Â
15. (optional) Finish house by brushing on a protective sealer, like Matte Mod Podge.
If your house is a gift, you may want to add a handwritten note to the base.
The book "Papier-Mache" by Sarah Hand is one of my favorites, and has inspired me to try so many different paper mache projects. Please check out Sarahâs Instagram and inspiring blog. Her second book, âA Happy Book of Little Giftsâ is also wonderful!Â
These sweet little houses make for truly charming and personal decorations and gifts, and are perfect for occasions throughout the year. And they provide a great opportunity to use up some of those collected ephemera and dimensional embellishments that you may have been saving. I love making these houses and seeing how each one turns out uniquely different. I hope you will give it a try. Itâs a wonderful project to do with a group of friends! Please tag me when you share your own paper mache houses on Instagram. Happy crafting!

Thank you for participating in the Interest Check!
Sorry this post is a bit late but thank you so much for helping to fill out the interest check! The number of responses i less than what we have hoped for, but still we would like to get the project going with a smaller team.
First, letâs share a summary of the interest check results!
1. Respondent Interest: >>> There are a number of respondents interested in contributing as an artist, but there arenât many people interested in getting the zine. Therefore we have decided to scale down the number of artists in the zine in order to try to provide everyone will a copy of the zine from earnings.
2. Contributor Interest: >>> It is good to know that more people are interested in contributing as a page artist than a merch artist, as we wonât be accepting merch-only artists. Based on the number of interest, I think we will be accepting around 20 artists.
3. Merch Interest: Ranking from most popular to least popular: - Acrylic charms - Stickers/prints (these are tied) - Buttons - Bookmarks - Washi tape/lanyards/enamel pins - Pouches - Poster/notepad
>>> We will most likely be going with acrylic charms, stickers, prints and buttons. If there are more bonus merch required we will go down the list.
4. Proposed number of pages: >>> More than half of respondents think the number of pages is ok. This will still be slightly adjusted based on pages allotted for each series.
5. Proposed schedule: >>> More than 75% of respondents think the schedule is ok. Therefore, we will stick to it for now.
6. Should one-shots and Shunkan Lyle be included? >>> More than 60% of respondents indicated âyes. However, the one-shot titles are not popular at all in the favourite series poll where multiple series can be chosen... So we will probably include a few one-shots that have some votes but not all of them.
7. Favourite series: >>> The results of this poll seems to be very biased towards the series with English serialization XD I am surprised no one likes Akuma ni Chic x Hack although I find it pretty nice... We will modify some of the pages to give more pages to the popular series~
--------------
Thank you for the people who have left some nice comments! Seeing encouraging comments makes me want to get this project rolling! We will be making some changes to the zine specs but this project is going ahead!
We will still aim to open artist applications on 15 July 2019 so please stay tuned!

Info Dump Time
Hello my name is Charlotte and currently I am the person putting this project together. Essentially I saw a tarot deck for another anime series an I went âhmmm i would really love to do that but with Inazuma Elevenâ and then though if I donât do this I donât think anyone will and here we are.
As far as information on this project hereâs what I have so far.
As of right now we are trying to get a deck with all 78 tarot cards the 22 major arcana and the 14 of each suit. Right now the plan is for 1 illustration per major arcana and 1 illustration for each number in the suits.( So the illustration for the aces would be the same across suits and the same with the rest of the numbers the only change being the border and the suit) The main way this can change is if the interest for this project grew exponentially and we had enough support and artists we would expand to make it so that the aces , pages, queens, and kings would all have unique artwork if the support for this project became even larger we could expand to just straight up having all 78 cards be unique.
The artworks featured will also be sold as a pdf zine additionally and if there was enough interest in it a physical print of that would also be discussed but that is currently on the back burner for now.
The plan as far as merch goes right now the plan is to keep it simple and do stickers and acrylic charms again depending on how well received everything is.
On the 25th I will be putting out the mod applications Iâm going to be looking for 3 to 5 people to help me run everything the current plan has me handling the borders and suits but if that is something you would be interested in this would be where you would apply. Mods are also going to be helping me pick out the artists that would be participating other than the guest artists who have been contacted prior to this.
I know that there was recently and Inazuma Eleven zine that had to go under due to production costs I have had prior experience with artist alleys in the past and have a friend who does them regularly whose helping me with the production details right now since this is going to be a smaller scale project we already have suppliers for the decks the charms and stickers.
The one other thing is since all Inazuma Eleven Eleven series goal ends up being the world stage the current plan is for âThe Worldâ Card to be a collabirative project making something similar to the Inazuma Japan announcement poster for Orion but with every artists favorite characters from all the series.
Right now the most important thing is that we get as many people who are interested to do the interest check and to keep spreading it around since it will determine how much more we can do with this project. Thanks so much for your time and I cant wait to see what we can all make together.
hereâs on final link for the interest check.

(purupurupuru) (purupurupuru) (click!) (coo!) (coo!)
HOWDY-HO, NAKAMAS! Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a good weekend. Before we start off, thereâs terrifying news about the 5.2 quake magnitude in Osaka so due to that, all places are closed until further notice so if youâre heading there for visit, please keep yourself updated of travel safety news. W/o further notice, letâs get down to business. We have loads and loads of news to share with you so know the drill. First off, last weekâs chapter calmed down a bit. Princess Mansherry was kind enough to heal Shirahoshiâs injuries so all is good. King Neptune thanked Myosgard for saving her life so heâs willing to make peace with this meet. Myosgard assured him that he will support him in any way he can and even allowed Leo and his crew that theyâre given permission to beat up anyway celestial dragon with his permission. Well said chum! The paramedics arrived and took Saint Charlos to get his injury treated. His scum dad showed to see him hurt. He got a new slave, and sadly, it was Kuma. He get stabbed and beat up by the scumbag w/o begging for help. Thereâs an unexpected guest that snuck in Mariejois. It was Bonney in disguised as a royal member. What could she planning to do? Meanwhile in a secret underground tunnel, Sabo and the rest of the revolutionary commanders are lying in wait. Sabo is impatient and wants to rescue Kuma from the scumbag, but Karasu and Betty told him that itâs better to wait until the right time comes. It was revealed that Kuma was once a king of his own country before he gave into the control of the world govât. What a shocker! A king? At the end, the five elders were talking about the kingdoms and that Viviâs family are the only ones that w/drew from being celestial dragons so fears that they could be a threat. They arrived at the empty throne only to see someone is sitting on it. The mysterious figure that had Luffyâs bounty poster. The elders kneel before this figure and called him or her, Im-san. Who is this high royal figure? Is this highest authority person above the elders? Guess weâll know more next week. No chapter this week so be patient and wait. Do you have any specific affordable printing services you would recommend?? Thank you!
Unfortunately, I only can speak for German/European printing services but there definitely was either a tumblr post or twitter thread with quite a collection of different printing services from all over the world (I really need to go and search for it asap, Iâll put a link to it here as soon as I found it)
For Germany, I definitely can recommend Frick KreativbĂźro, this is where I printed my booklets for art school as well as the Kiyoyachi Zine. They do very solid work imo for a good price when it comes to books and such (they also have a min. order of 1 piece so thatâs pretty handy if you donât know how many pieces youâll need at first.)However, poster prints and postcards etc. are only worth it if you order at least 10-20 pieces, and if you have different designs, you will need to pay more if you donât place seperate orders.I really like the quality though, and if you look for a service to print business cards and such, they are really cheap (even for double-sided ones) and really pretty. Thatâs how I found out about them btw.Another bonus is that shipping in Germany is free and usually it doesnât take very long for your order to process if you have smaller things that are non-books/without a bind. You can also pay for silver/gold treatment, that way your order is processed much quicker and can be ready within 1-2 days.
Zap Creatives does quite solid work too, this is where I got stickers, sticker sheets, and charms, but they arenât exactly cheap due to relatively large minimum orders (but the quality is really good.) As it is the only Europe-based service I could find that made acrylic charms, that was my go-to, but I believe in America and especially Asia youâll get much cheaper options with just the same quality.
Again, I really need to find that post (maybe someone else knows which one I meant and can help me out with that ^^; ), I think that will help you a lot more.
⨠UPDATE â¨
Thanks to this Nonnie here
I found the original post by @cloven which you can find here with @birdrobotâs addition here - I will add it to the how to zine post as well. There are a lot of printing services listed that you might want to consider. I personally only have experience with Zap as I mentioned above but from what I heard from American friends, I think I can back up most of the services.
