Totally with you on the Tommy-thing. Fandom makes me dislike him so I am not reading things about him any longer. This entire storyline is good for representation, yeah but so fsr not really showcasing a good relationship. Tommy let Buck stand there because he was fed up but he knew Buck is new to this. I have resorted to blocking all bucktommy groupies, they make me dislike the fandom experience.

I have no beef with the actors, I love all of them, my problems are ever with the writers and showrunners that handles themselves in a very idiotic way when it comes to Buck and Eddie.

It's like they only know how to develop characters that are in established relationships or how to develop a character within a relationship only, and even that they do poorly because they haven't even decided after 7 SEASONS where they want the boys to end.

And by the way, since the only way they know is how to develop the characters only inside a relationship is also why Buck and Eddie are so intertwined, because if you notice, they are only growing when they are written together! The writers wrote themselves into this corner.

Anyone watching other shows knows that best friends are not written that way, that they have their own individual stories and they come together for a good beer hangout or heart to heart, or relationship advices or rooming together (Casey and Severide) because their roommate and best friend died (Severide and Shay) or their house burned down chasing a story with the reporter LI (Casey and I can't remember her name atm but she was good for him).

There are so many ways to write best friends without them being mistaken for endgame, but that is not what is happening in 911 and Oliver confirmed it himself, neither Eddie nor Buck are written in a straight manner and the actors know that, the question is, will the showrunners catch up eventually?

Lou is awesome, I like him, I like him in any show I 've seen him, lately that was SWAT. He's a good actor and seems like he's fun to be around, in a way, they kind brought Ryan/Eddie 2.0 to the cast, I find it very amusing lol.

LOL no, Ryan has been controversial even before Chrysti-Ann brought him down with her, he's poc, he's not Oliver, he speaks his mind and he doesn't cater to stupid and demanding hetero-normative showrunners. How dare he? lol

People were #TeamEvan even before #buddie came into our lives, Lou being added is the perfect excuse to tarnish Eddie so they can put him out of the picture - the haters of course - it's pretty clear that Tim is very fond of him.

And Murphy brought him in without an audition because he knows how good of an actor he really is.

JLH, like Oliver, is a fan favorite, and a beautiful fun white woman, no way would she get any blowback as Ryan. Toxicity in this fandom brings about a lot of hypocritical aspects, but that is a lot of reflection of the lives we live today outside of the fandom.

Where do we draw the line between imitation as a form of flattery, and imitation as a form of stealing?

Part I - Instagram

I’ve been away from Tumblr for a heck of time but only one crazy discovery got me back ranting in here. The reason? Someone stealing my content. There is no problem taking bits of inspiration from everywhere but this one’s a whole new level of pro. Let’s start from the very beginning and I’ll leave the judgement to you.

PS. I’m censoring some details out of pity for this person. 

It’s funny how Instagram would sometimes lead you to the most unexpected suggested people. I stumbled upon a suspicious suggested account (I use the word suspicious because I was instantly drawn to how familiar it looks), and behold, it’s very much patterned to my IG poetry page and I knew for sure it belongs to this person.

I’ve been writing since 2006. I usually kept a handwritten journal for everything but you really don’t get the time for it anymore as an adult. So my iPhone Notes became my go-to until all my thoughts were consuming too much of my phone memory already. I started transferring some of my writing on Tumblr during 2018, and around June 2022 I decided to put up an Instagram account for some selected content. Creating each layout for @poetrybymarii had also became a much-needed break from my day job as well.

Upon discovering this suggested account and distinguishing the theme that had been copied from me, I immediately scrolled back to its earliest post to determine how old the account was—the account was created August 2022, exactly two months after I’ve created @poetrybymarii. I messaged this person to confirm if the account belongs to her (which, even if she denied was obviously hers). In the beginning she admitted ownership, not knowing what’s next to come.

You see, I was already aware how this person was stealing bits of captions and whatnots. I was ready to let it slip away again until one of her posts truly alarmed me—it was one of the proses I wrote and posted here on my Tumblr dated September 10, 2018. It was copied and minorly tweaked! You can see how the whole context, sentence per sentence are still the same. Words were just jumbled or replaced with synonyms but the whole chronological order of it all remains.

I confronted her again and this was the start of her denying it all. Let’s debunk her alibi here:

Alibi: “It was not mine, I just saw it somewhere and copied it because I found it nice. Someone must have reposted and that’s where I found it. But I did not copied it from you.”

Point 1 — The moment she confirmed the poetry account was hers, she was clear about how it was just an outlet account for her thoughts. Meaning she claims ownership for all the content written and posted. Not one post had a proper credit in it. Also judging the awkward English composition and grammar, it was a no-brainer that the write-up there was all her work.

Point 2 — My original prose was posted on my Tumblr account with a very few following. It did not receive any notes (likes and re-shares) so the chances of it going viral being passed around to make it into her screen apart from my very page was impossible.

Point 3 — My prose needed to become viral first to close the possibility of someone firstly related to me have it find somewhere. But had it been viral, I would have still known. Social Media is part of my job. There is no tricking me in this one.

Part II – Tumblr

The entirety of my conversation with this person was pointless as she tries to divert away from the very point of her stealing my prose. Overwhelmingly, she was ready with all her alibies and screenshots, and suddenly admitted that not all the content posted on her poetry IG was hers. She tried to justify her way out from her own lies and sent me a screenshot of her Tumblr banner (one mistake she made). And this was the second part of my crazy discovery as I began to delve into her blog. Guessing her Tumblr URL and tracking it was a piece of cake even if she changed it upon my confrontation.

If there’s one thing I can proudly claim on the internet it’s that I was a part of the Tumblr O.G. back in 2007. This very account is already 8 years old (est.2015) and my third account since then. “Ask me anything” feature was only added sometime around mid-2010’s, and it took me a flooding of Anonymous asks before I came into addressing them as “Anons”. This person’s Tumblr account was created only October 2020*. She reiterated how she has no ill intention with any of her accounts which have no followers in it, to which I pointed out—if she has literally no followers, where did all the “ask me anything” came from? Were these lovely compliments and questions all fabricated by her too just to make it look like her page is gaining foot traffic in it? But then again it was all part of her gaslighting, diverting away from the main point which was her plagiarizing my prose. 

At this point all I was able to say was FOR FUCKS SAKE. I was beyond speechless to discover how even some of our photos were the same. She also had some selfies in there that were the same replica pose of my past selfies.* She denied everything once again and stated how I was not the only person who knew apps. But Pins was an unknown app. Pins is not something that would pop-out on the app store as you type in search “collage maker.” It was something I discovered hands-on as I braved and tinkered through links and links of mandarin characters I do not understand. I think I may have shared some discovered Japanese and Chinese apps in this Tumblr account as well if you scroll all the way back. Anyhow as soon as I saw her photos using the exact frame from Pins, I immediately tried to recall where I may have shared the app away. I remember sharing it through a comment on Instagram when a friend complimented my post. I have not shared it anywhere else.

Alibi: “You’re not the only one who knows apps.”

True. But adding to all the prior things I mentioned above about the app, WHY the fucking fuck does she need to use the very same two frame collages I used, out of all the hundreds of frames found in Pins?

It does not end in here. There was a heck ton of other odd similarities—from her selfies posted there that are too sensitive to share away already, to specific favorite songs posted and captioned.

Part III — Conclusion

Once a cheater, always a cheater, as cliché as it is—they would never own up their mistakes. If there’s one thing I’ve learned from Luna’s viral #F👁️👁️D eyes photo it’s that you gotta screenshot everything the second you find out about someone stealing your content, and you gotta fight for proper credits and rights. How this person tried to gaslight me when she said “I didn’t knew you were this shallow, why is this a big deal?” was something only a manipulative narcissistic person would say. Artists and creatives are so prone to having their content stolen in this modern era, and people like her who think things like this are no big deal are actually the first cause of this problem.

Two days after WHO's declaration on 13th March 2020, the United States government declares a National Emergency to deal with the coronavirus (COVID-19) a pandemic significant risk to the public health and safety of the Nation. Students at Universities and Colleges across the country shut their doors. On 16th March 2020, Gov Ige delivered a Supplemental Proclamation reinforced during the emergency period. The following day on 17th March 2020, Governor David Ige calls for a 30-day suspension of visitors to Hawaii and on 18th March 2020, Mayor Kirk Caldwell of the City and County of Honolulu declared a supplemental proclamation ordering the closure of all bars, nightclubs, and restaurants.

SH flew to Hawaii for holiday with full knowledge of the situation on the island. Hawaii said not to visitors and yes to a nightly curfew. He was unfamiliar with reality and what was happening in the world. If he breaks the rules that tell him what to do, he is a COVIDIOT and irresponsible. SH undermined the instructions of the British government. He scoffed, showing a blatant disregard for the rules. He ignored and evaded the law. SH, never goes, to tell the truth. For him, it was about one thing, enjoying his life in Hawaii. He didn't sacrifice anything during the Covid-19 pandemic 😷 it was just to keep his ego floating in his Hawaiian villa promoting his welfare. Seems someone tries their best to defend the unjustifiable. I do not defend the indefensible if he breached the rules. His selfishness during COVID-19 and his individualistic spirit is his least noble terms, and he has no regrets.

If he repeats a lie often enough, he will slowly start to believe it’s true. Time will inevitably uncover dishonesty and lies; history has no place for them.

Yes and no.

I was 16 when the callout was written, so, a minor and it was also three goddamn years ago. I was also undiagnosed with a number of things, being heavily physically, emotionally and sexually abused and unmedicated. I've changed now and have gotten help since then, at least I hope I have.

(I'm going to call the OP 'Goku' to hide their identity for their sake, since neither of us want to think about the other anymore.)

I'm at Goku through the infamous vent app when I was 15 or 16 years old. I just got out of a very abusive relationship with my actual abuser (who was a grown woman) and quickly became friends with them through kinnie shit and a mutual liking of Yokai Watch. We were really close and became queerplatonic partners which we probably should have been because they were in their twenties and I was a minor but we became them anyways.

Due to trauma I used to have a problem where I compulsively lie about certain things, because if I didn't lie my mother would beat me occasionally to the point of nearly killing me or just happened on more than one occasion which Goku had heard, amongst other friends that we shared the time. This was also around the time I'm at my abuser, the one I most frequently talked about on here on Twitter and in my abuser tag.

I told Goku whatever went on between my mother and this abuser and I guess I lied here and there that I forgot to keep up with. I also have dissociative identity disorder so between me and my headmates things would often get mixed up. I will admit that I did hurt Goku during the course of our relationship, in ways he didn't deserve and I definitely manipulated him without knowing it.

Eventually we stopped being friends and I couldn't handle it. One of my alters couldn't handle it. We became so disgustingly dependent on Goku that we didn't know what to do and thought we would die without him so I did everything in our power to bring him back into being our friend. This included the comment on the 8tracks playlist where I guilt tripped him, and getting a friend (who ig fucked off tumblr years ago? I don't know where they are) to convince him I was dead.

That was not okay in the slightest. I don't know what compelled us to think that was okay.

That doesn't make stalking people okay though, and after this is posted I'm going back to a hospital to make sure I get better.

I hope if Goku ever does see this he knows I'm sorry for abusing him, genuinely. He didn't deserve that and I should of just let him go.

I really shouldn't have to say this, but I don't engage in bestiality that was a rumor started by my rapist when he manipulated one of my headmates for our tumblr password and sent random, disgusting messages to certain people. All of which he knew I knew IRL, or were going to move in with me. I've never had sex with my dog. Nor should I have to say that, christ.

About the pedophilia stuff from my old NSFW blog: I was 12-15 when all that was posted! The cookie run stuff on there was photoshopped, and at that time no character ages were confirmed (which doesn't excuse shit) but I thought (because I was groomed from a very young age) that posting nsfw of minors was okay because I was a minor. It's not. The blog's been deleted since I turned 17.

The fanfiction: any fanfiction that was posted to my Archive of Our Own account that involves bestiality are underage was written was underage to being groomed by an older woman. To my knowledge she's in jail now for what you did to me and several other children but that doesn't make what I wrote okay in the slightest. It will be taken down as soon as possible if I can remember the email that was used to create the account.

One of the most important witnesses wasn’t interrogated because investigating officers couldn’t get through him.

Despite multiple requests from Denis’ mother the judge didn’t call Saduov who is one of the most important witnesses in a case and who know Kudaibergenov. Kudaibergenov demanded from him 5,000 U.S. dollars right after what happened. Why did he demand money? He couldn’t answer the question. The court explained why they didn’t call Saduov because they couldn’t get through him.

Nuraly Kiyasov’s brother was convicted of group violence. He was sentenced to 2 years conditionally.

July 18-19 in 2018 perpetrators were driving a car of Kiyasov’s brother, that Kiyasov allegedly stole from his own brother. The judge refused to call for interrogation his brother because he can’t give evidence against his sibling by the law. But Kudaibergenov and Tolybaeva aren’t his relatives. But they found the answer within the law and Kiyasov’s brother wasn’t interrogated.

Kiyasov and Kudaibergenov have already been prosecuted three times! And every time they were released because of reconciling the parties. Kiyasov’s brother was a suspended sentence. Kiyasov himself and Kudaibergenov still haven’t been convicted.

About policemen. Denis’ family asks to prosecute policemen Nurpeisov and Musaev, who saw the fight between Denis and perpetrators and didn’t react.

January 11th they were interrogated at the hearing.

Policemen were going to Central stadium, but somehow they were on Kurmangazy-Baiseitova street. They were there before the fight. According to Nurpeisov, they wanted to buy a hot dog on Nazarbayev-Kurmangazy street. But according to Musaev, they wanted to buy a burger on Nazarbayev-Bogenbay Batyr street. Policemen ran and help when perpetrators had been already running away. Meanwhile, one of the policemen go after them without staying with Denis and calling an ambulance. Running out on the road he found out what direction perpetrators went. He sent another police car in a different way (instead of Nazarbayev avenue to Ablai Khan). Later this car will come back to the place of the incident and namely these patrolmen will call the ambulance, tourniquet the leg and help doctors. Time was lost.

Second policemen went to “catch” perpetrators by car along Panfilov street and magically didn’t notice them when they were moving in the same direction as his car.

Nurpeisov and Musaev’s evidences aren’t the same as patrolmen’s, who was providing real help.

During interrogation, judge withdrew all media to another room and asked them to take out all cameras and microphones from the courtroom, despite the fact that aggrieved party wasn’t against it. He didn’t allow the lawyer to ask policemen questions. He also didn’t respond to almost every Denis’ mom question.

Why do they need to interrogate Kiyasov’s brother who invited everybody, fed them and give them his own car?

Why do they need to interrogate the third founder of restaurant “Hedonist” Dimash Izbasar who didn’t show up in court because he dislocated his shoulder? (Hedonist is a place where Denis was before he was killed).

Why do they need to interrogate Saduov, from whom Kudaibergenov was demanding $5000 right after what happened?

Why do they need to make a fuss because of rogue policemen, who sent patrolmen to a different direction so they couldn’t catch the perpetrators?

After all, why does the judge need all these problems?

January 16th in the court Tolybaeva said that in December some people had come to her to remand centre. She told that they had threatened her. Again, someone familiar usually threatens and only those who know too much or who can compromise those people about whom person just mustn't tell about.

During her first interrogation, she pointed out that she met with Kudaibergenov a few days before the incident but in court, Zhanar was trying to deny all charges and articles saying she saw or know nothing.

Aggrieved party answered that even if she didn’t know, there’s an article 434 Criminal Code of Republic of Kazakhstan, which punished the misprision about well-known preparing or committed crime. Moreover, criminal responsibility for the above-mentioned crime was expanded by the new Criminal Code of Republic of Kazakhstan. Whereas previously the maximum punishment for misprision about the crime was 1 year restriction of freedom. It’s now a maximum punishment is 6 years restriction of freedom and it includes serious crimes accordingly.

During the investigation in the court for which her lawyer asked one more day (despite they had 5,5 months for preparing!!), she suddenly said that she knew Kudaibergenov for a long time and they’re going to get married. According to the Constitution of Republic of Kazakhstan and criminal law people who hide their husband or wife or close relative that committed a crime are not subjects to criminal responsibility.

January 16th 2019 prosecutor asked for Tolybaeva 4 years restriction of freedom according to the article about misprision. 4 years instead of 6 years because of mitigating factors such as pregnancy and existence of a minor child.

In accordance with the cell phone records accused called each other since July 16th. Denis’ mother said, “everything points to the fact that this trinity like the army has met July 16th and before that they didn’t know each other. Cell phone records prove that acquaintance Tolybaeva with Kudaibergenov happened on the eve. They started to communicate more often a day before the tragedy of July 18th. Maybe they had another phone numbers and it’s possible that they were communicating using them. But those phone numbers which they showed to interrogators officers did not have their common calls.”

Zhanar Tolybaeva is a teacher from Korday village. She has a car and expensive phones such as iPhone and Samsung. She can speak Russian, Kazakh and English. According to cell phone records that were closely reviewed by Denis’ family she has communication with foreigners structures which also had a connection with Denis’ circle. In the court, Tolybaeva said that she called only to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Such calls weren’t found at any of the two her phone numbers.

Denis’ family asked to punish her accordingly to article 188, part 2, paragraph 1 for group stealing by preliminary conspiracy. Since there's new information probably she was head of the gang they also asked to add charge under article 99, part 2, paragraph 8 that is the murder from mercenary motivations involving robbery.

FBI IG Report: Obama Lied, Comey let Hillary off, and the Clinton "Crime Against Children"

It's interesting to me that the Inspector General's Report released yesterday shows that OBAMA LIED about whether he knew Hillary Clinton was using a private email account for sensitive emails and yet "Trump is lying" is trending in the FAKE NEWS networks. The conclusion of the Inspector General's report offers that there was no influential 'political bias' by the FBI investigation of the 2016 election, however, that conclusion is absurd when details are reviewed.

Obama Lied and 13 supported criminal activity, not to mention the FBI's support. The Inspector General's report states that "President Barack Obama was one of the 13 individuals with whom Clinton had direct contact using her clintonemail.com account." Not only does the report show Obama was lying when he said he was not aware of this, it shows that key FBI officials ignored crimes because they were committed to keeping Trump out of the White House, as confirmed when lead FBI agent on the Clinton investigation, Peter Strzok, told his colleague who asked him if Trump would win: “No. No he’s not. We’ll stop it,”. The fact that a total of 13 government employees, and the FBI, were aware that Hillary Clinton was illegally using a personal email system for classified information and said nothing at a minimum shows extreme political bias because, like Obama, these were individuals also supporting her presidential run and expecting that she would be the next president. Hillary did not only use a private email account, but she had a private computer server at home to store data and the implication is that she wanted to be able to destroy data whenever she chose to. The fact that the FBI was aware of many aspects of criminal activity and did nothing not only implicates them as biased but because this also relates to a serious crime that undermined national security, the FBI was complicit in criminal activity. It seems the real motive was that too many people on "their side" were supporting criminal activity and to expose this would implicate not only multiple democrats but the FBI itself. The IG report on the FBI underscores that a special counsel or a Grand Jury should be convened to root out the documented widespread and serious criminal corruption within the FBI and the government in general. Either Bill Clinton or Loretta Lynch Lied The Washington Examiner documents how Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch gave extremely conflicting accounts of how and why they met privately on the airport runway tarmac. This detail in the IG report implies that one of them was lying. Because the descriptions are so different, they both cannot be true. Why would they lie about their meeting? Perhaps because Lynch was supposed to be overseeing the Hillary Clinton email case without bias and that meeting was patently unacceptable in and of itself. Any legal professional should know that. Comey let Hillary off The report also confirms that Comey's investigation of Hillary Clinton was against protocol and not acceptable. Inspector General Michael Horowitz stated Comey's actions were "extraordinary and insubordinate," and without excuse for deviating from "well-established Department policies." The fact that this was not a slip-up but a radical breach from protocol does not imply negligence but a determined intention to let Hillary Clinton off the hook, and Comey's evoking the “intent” defense of Clinton additionally underscores a premeditated effort to protect Clinton from what constitutes a felony, not to mention that Hillary's apparent election fraud is a felony that carries a potential10-year prison sentence.

Transcripts of a Senate investigation presented by Chuck Grassley show that Comey had made his decision to exonerate Hillary Clinton prior to interviews of key witnesses and months before the investigation had ended: "Conclusion first, fact-gathering second -- that's no way to run an investigation. The FBI should be held to a higher standard than that, especially in a matter of such great public interest and controversy," It's important to remember that the crime of using a private server for classified emails is a felony regardless of intent. In other words, Hillary's defense of "Oops, I messed up" does not cut it and she should have been prosecuted. The bias in this investigation in favor of Hillary Clinton is coincidental with a lack of any serious FBI investigation and prosecution with regard to the documented election fraud by the Clinton presidential campaign that was victorious over Bernie Sanders.

Clinton Foundation "Crime Against Children" The heavily redacted FBI report also shows the subject of "Crime Against Children" directly under the heading "Hillary Clinton and Foundation" but does not explain what this is referring to. Even left-leaning Politico affirmed that Hillary Clinton was helping to enable Bill Clinton by covering up his alleged sexual assaults. A report from 2016 showed flight logs wherein Bill Clinton flew at least 26 trips aboard the “Lolita Express” of registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein's proven crime was that of soliciting an underage girl for prostitution. Both the plane and Epstein's private resort were apparently used for illegal sex with under-aged girls. One witness, Virginia Roberts, claims that she was a "sex slave" for Epstein and that she saw Bill Clinton at Epstein's Island where she typically had sex with “powerful men, including politicians and business executives.” The records show that Bill Clinton asked his government security detail to leave him alone for private matters during these trips.

Monica Petersen's biography describes how she was a courageous and dedicated worker determined to stop child sex trafficking and not afraid to stand up to any person or institution in order to fight corruption. As she was working in an organization dedicated to ending child sex trafficking, she was in Haiti where this is a serious problem and where the Clinton Foundation was heavily involved. Petersen's Facebook posts link to The Haitian Blogger underscored how Monica was very critical of the Clinton Foundation and the apparent deep corruption of the Clintons. Monica's death on November 13, 2016, was ruled a suicide, though there was apparently no autopsy and though her mother and co-workers did not believe this. We may never know what really happened to her, but the public deserves to know what the "Crime Against Children" under the "Hillary Clinton and Foundation" title noted in the Inspector General's report refers to. The "SpyGate" crimes that the IG report does not cover are perhaps more disturbing Documents have been produced that show clear directives from President Barack Obama to spy on Donald Trump. The "Spygate" controversy has been proven to be true. A document dated November 17, 2016, titled as "Top Secret" requests intelligence operatives from a foreign country to not only spy on Donald Trump as a civilian but also after his election to the presidency. The letter from the Government Communications Headquarters of England outlines, "US National Security Adviser Rice has requested that we continue our surveillance, during the transition period, as internal US intelligence is potentially compromised by the incoming Trump administration." The ACLU affirms that spying on U.S. citizens is illegal. When the FBI wants to wiretap a domestic suspect, it is required to go to court for a warrant. The Watergate scandal was based on Republican Party supporters planting a recording device in Democrat Party headquarters. It was illegal then and it is now. Because this spying by President Obama was ongoing, it is more serious than Watergate. USA Today outlines the extreme threat this type of criminal activity and corruption is to the republic: "It now seems apparent that we overestimated the patriotism and professionalism of the people in these agencies, who allowed them to be politically weaponized by the Obama administration. That being true, if we value democracy, can we permit them to exist in their current form? That’s a decision that President Trump and Congress will have to face. Ironically, they may be afraid to — for fear that intelligence agencies will engage in further targeted political leaks."

Serious FBI Corruption and the need for a special counsel or Grand Jury A special counsel or a Grand Jury would be the logical response for such serious crimes that not only are defined as felonies deserving prison time but the level to which this threatened national security is incredible. Donald Trump was spot on in claiming there is serious FBI corruption. Fox News outlines how the IG report of the FBI affirms the "Spygate" scandal worse than Watergate because it was routine and continuous: "Along with the FBI's cozy relationship with the media, Horowitz's report charges that officials in the bureau at "all levels of the organization" leaked information to reporters without authorization." At "all levels of the organization" the FBI leaked sensitive information to reporters without authorization in exchange for gifts: "We identified instances where FBI employees improperly received benefits from reporters, including tickets to sporting events, golfing outings, drinks and meals, and admittance to nonpublic social events," Not only was this apparent bribery politically biased, it was criminal activity and threatened national security. The publisher and executive editor of the NY Times actually felt the need to rededicate their newspaper to honesty after their biased election coverage. The NY Times stated Nov. 13, 2016, "As we reflect on the momentous result, and the months of reporting and polling that preceded it, we aim to rededicate ourselves to the fundamental mission of Times journalism. That is to report America and the world honestly," Heads should roll over this FBI bribery and the many crimes implicated in the IG report. A Grand Jury is required for serious crimes according to the Constitution: The Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution provides, "No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger;" Those that compromised sensitive information on private unsecured computers, those that intentionally leaked sensitive information to the public without oversight, and those that lied about these activities in order to cover them up all broke the law and also threatened national security and these serious crimes should be addressed by a Grand Jury. The Wall Street Journal explained the rogue nature of the FBI document blackout. Redactions should only occur for reasons of national security, but in this case, the FBI is censoring information from Congress and from oversight in order to cover themselves. And this begs the question: Who is going to investigate this 'bureau of investigation' and hold them accountable when there is clear evidence that they have gone rogue? Dinesh D'Souza made a good point: "Criminals with badges are more dangerous than other criminals because they don’t just violate the law, they corrupt it." If we are supposed to take the investigation conclusion as, "Move along, there's nothing to see here." then this implies that there is not only a two-tier justice system in the US where elite politicians and government agents are held to a very different standard than non-government citizens, it also implies that the US is being run by a completely unaccountable shadow government. The FBI claimed that a "lack of public interest" in getting to the bottom of the Clinton Email Scandal somehow justified their negligence, but legal accountability is not based on popular opinion. While Judicial Watch created a petition to encourage government accountability, this IG report on the FBI outlines enough evidence to convene a Grand Jury for the corruption that is much worse than had been previously documented. Many people and organizations are risking their lives to investigate and bring to light the widespread corruption, however, as Matt Couch pointed out there aren't many outlets or authorities that are not either complacent or corrupted. If you want true news and updates on important facts, you cannot rely on the mainstream news but it does help to follow others. Consider that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton proposed a drone strike on Julian Assange in order to stop information on corruption from coming out. If anyone believes that the Inspector General's report was not a complete whitewash of a stinking heap of evidence of a scandal that is bigger than Watergate, post a comment and explain why.

The sleep was nice until Nathan had wake you up in the morning. You feel annoyed because of the lack of sleep. When you remember all your things were left in Sam's room you were ever more annoyed. You need to get change but you don't want to see Sam ever again.

You felt your stomach drop and your heart tearing apart when you suddenly recall the scene from last night. The sound you heard. The things you saw. You are familiar with this horrible feeling. The same feeling when you found out your fiancé had cheated on you. It felt like the world is breaking apart and yet it's just you noticing it. There's the bitterness you can't explain. Nathan sighed again, placing his hand to cover his face.

"She do?!" Sam asked again, not believing what his brother said.

Nathan walked past him and grabbed your bag then stopped at the door frame.

"You're screwed." Nathan raised his eyebrows at Sam and left.

"Fuck." Sam cursed, covering his face with his hands.

From the moment you four leave the motel, to finally rented a car, you had never spoken to Sam. You didn't even looked at him. Not even once. Not even a glance.

You told yourself you didn't care about anything he did. But did you?

Nathan hoped to give a chance for Sam to redeem himself. So he and Sully get into the seats in the front immediately, leaving you siting with Sam at the back.

But that doesn't change anything. Sully had some chitchat with Sam about how he passed his time in prison, hoping you would somehow join the conversation. But no, you didn't make a single noise in the whole car ride.

You shift yourself to the left multiple times to avoid any contact with Sam. But the back seats was too small, no matter how far you try to move away, you feel your skin touches his.

You remained silence until when Nathan swung you all off the hill. "Oh, Shit!" Sullivan cursed. "Whoa, who's, whoa, whoa.....!" "Okay don't panic!" Nathan shouted. "I'm very much panicking here!" Sully said. "That cable's gonna snap--!" When the car almost hit the top, a giant rock hit it. The cable roll down so fast that Sam lost his grip and fell out his sit.

"Sam!" You grabbed him immediately without any hesitation like a instinctive reaction.

He swear to God he was terrified. But most importantly he was shock that you grabbed him. Isn't she mad? He thought.

And you swear to god you didn't know why the heck you did that. You tell yourself you wouldn't care if Samuel Drake die, but is it?

You pulled Sam upward while Nathan and Sully were pulling you.

"Phew." Sam finally got back to his sit and his face still looks like a white sheet.

"You kids okay?" Sully asked. "Yeah...yeah...Just get us out of this Nathan!" You shouted. "Alright hang on!"

Nathan was pulling the car upward, and Sam was looking at you in extreme confusion with a bit tears welled up in his eyes. He thought you would hate him so much after what happened last night? He doesn't understand. He was confused like a 16 years old boy thinking about the girl he like. And you were holding the rail tightly, praying that you all will be save.

"Ah... Well, that was fun, right?" Nathan laughed when he finally get you all steady. "Don't ever do that again Nathan." You hit him in the arm while you were still trying to catch your breath. "Well I'm definitely sharing this one with my shrink."

A big tower was ahead. Meanwhile, all three of you were already inside this massive room underground.

"Hey, guys...?" You were standing in front of a marvelous stone sculpture. It was complicated and detailed. It was saint Dismas.

"Coming!" Samuel responded immediately.

"All right, so uh...Let's see, what do you think the trick is here?" Samuel asked. "You gotta push a button, pull something?" Nathan was inspecting the sculpture in front of him.

You were also checking out the stone just inches away with them. Suddenly Victor puts his hand on your shoulder and pull you away from the stone.

You looked at him with questions in your mind. He shook his had with a smile, then he tilted his head up to gesture you to look at the view again. "Holy shit...." you whispered. You laughed and look at Sully with a surprised face.

"Boys. Whenever you're done finding poor Saint Dismas, I think you might want to take a look at this." You were standing few steps away, crossing your arms looking at the enormous view.

"We've got ourselves a map, ladies and gentlemen." Sully added.

The boys stepped away and they were as shocked as you were.

"Victor you're a goddamn genius." Sam said. "You hear that, Nate? Y/N? Genius." "Yeah yeah."

After some discussion about the map, Sam accidentally spotted a cigarettes lying on the floor oddly.

"Hey, ah... Victor? You didn't start smoking cigarettes by any chance, did ya?" Asked Sam.

"Looks like we're not the first one here. Sully replied.

And suddenly a voice shouted from the broken ceiling,

"Fire in the hole!"

"Get down!" Nathan shouted and you all spread around the room.

Nathan was taking cover at a stone few blocks ahead of you. There were only two shoreline soldiers left, he threw a Grenade towards them. But he never thought they would threw it back to you just seconds before it explodes. Sam was just few meters away. Not even you can react what happened, Sam already jumped to you, holding you with his strong arm, pressing his body against yours. The push was too strong and too unexpected, along with the explode, you fell off from the 1st floor with Sam holding you tightly. You and Sam hit the floor together, although you fell sideways, the hit was enough to knock you out.

Sam got up immediately to shield you from the bricks and rocks that caused by the explosion. His face was inches close, you can feel his breath on your cheek and the smell of cigarettes. He looked down and check on you, your eyes were tightly shut. 

"Y/N." He caress your cheek softly. 

The blurry vision was starting to become clear. When you saw Sam was on top of you studying your face, you pushed him away immediately and got up coughing.

"Not even a thanks?" Sam was trying to chitchat a little.

"I saved you twice." You coughed while leaving.

"Hey, what're you doing?" Nathan asked.

"What do I look like I'm doing? Just confirming a suspicion." You stand up from the dead soldier that was lying on the floor, and a paper in your hand.

You opened the paper, and found that the Shorline have already know about the towers.

"Shit. Look at this."

"They figured out the towers too." Sam standing inches away from you, resting his hands on the hips.

"So now what?" Nathan asked.

"Now what? Now we're screwed. Because there's four of us and there's God knows how many of them? And they have a head start." Sam was annoyed.

"Yeah, but they do t know which tower to go to yet." Nathan walked to the stone wall with a smug face.

"That's great, Nathan, cause neither do we." Sam answered.

"Yes we do." Nathan laughed.

"Look. It's a little worn down. Right there, that's a match." He said holding his coin next to the stone.

"Are you sure? Because I meant it could be this one, too." Sam also hold out his coins.

Nathan looked at his brother, "Carp."

"Yeah but still 2 out of 12 towers." You said.

"Alright, Me and sully is gonna gonna take this tower. You and Y/N will take the other one."

You gave a dead glare to Nathan. "What?"

"What?" Nathan mimicked you.

You still gave him a dead glare.

Nathan knows that you have a problem so he pulled you away from the men, "What's wrong?"

“I want to go with you! Why do you always leave me with your brother?!” You hissed.

"Do me a favour will you?."

"What favour?" Still whispering angrily.

"Give him a chance to make up something for you! He's sorry." Nathan talked quietly.

"What for? I don't need his apologies! And I don't give a fuck what happened." You hissed.

"Y/N, clam down. Please. Do this for me okay? And you don't sound like you don't care." Nathan said.

You stared at him for few seconds, making calculations in your head.

"Fine. Just this once." You gave him a cold glare.

"Just this once."

"If you run into any of those shoreline clowns you call us, okay?" Nathan said.

"See you soon." Sam looked at his brother.

"Y/N you take care of this big guy will ya?" Nathan tilted his head a little to look at you.

"I didn't sign up for this." You get into the passenger seat and closed the door heavily. So as the ride started.

"Y/N, I'm sorry. I truly am." Sam said while driving the car.

You didn't say anything. Cause' you didn't know what to say. "It's okay?" "It's fine?" But it's not okay or fine to you.

You move your eyes along the sights of the street, observing the things that people do. Sam noticed your silence, he took a peak of your expressions and he gets nothing from it.

"Y/N...Please say something..." Sam tried again.

"You shouldn't have done it in the first place." You finally spoke , looking at nothing and your face was still facing the street.

"I-I was drunk..." Sam said.

"That's not an excuse." You replied coldly.

"Yes I know... I'm sorry. I know I screwed up." His voice was full of regrets and guilt. But the power of heartbroken and numbness makes you take nothing from it.

You kept silence again.

Sam can't stand these silences, "Y/N, what do you want me to say?"

"No! What do YOU want me to say?" You snapped.

You heard Sam left out an annoyed sigh. "I had enough of this! Why are you acting like this?" Sam snapped too.

"Why do you fucking care?" You replied.

" I can't believe this. You're so fucking stupid!"

"Oh? I'm stupid? Who's the fucking douchebag? Shut the fuck up Drake. Fucking drive!" You shouted.

Sam sighed. His brows were frowning, he looks very serious and a bit angry. But you can’t really tell what was he thinking.

Great, he hate you now happy?

Half of you want Sam to hate you, stay away from you. But the other half of you wish he would never do that. The contradiction in your head was driving you mad. You took a deep breath and continue watch the view outside the window.

Chapter Summary: Klaus leaves Y/N no choice then obey his compulsion as her brothers each have to fight their own battles.

Normally you would have been protected by the small amount of vervain you take in every day, but being locked up in the back of a truck prevented you from doing that.

“There is nothing worse for you than abandoning your brother who is about to dig into his true nature, now is there?” Klaus adds smirking in triumph.

No there certainly is not…

Y/N | Gym

Klaus watches you leave the gym with a satisfied smirk on his face “That takes care of that problem, now where were we? What are you waiting for, Stefan? Kill them.”

“No! Stefan don´t. He’s not going to hurt me. He already said-”But before Elena could finish her sentence Klaus violently strucks her across the face and she falls on the floor. 

Stefan quickly runs for Klaus but he stops him by grabbing his throat.

“She means nothing to you? Your lies just keep piling up.” Klaus notes, his eyes boring into Stefan’s.

“Let her go! I´ll do whatever you want, you have my word.” Stefan promises.

“Your word doesn’t mean much. I lived by your word all summer, during which time I never had to resort to this…” He begins to compel him as well “Stop fighting.”

“Don´t do this, don’t do this.” Stefan begs.

“I didn’t want to. All I wanted was you allegiance. Now I´m going to have to take it..” Klaus replies sternly.

“Don´t…Don´t…Stefan begs once more.

“You will exactly do as I say when I say it. You will not run, you will not hide, you will simply just obey.” Klaus compels him “Now kill them. Ripper.”

Stefan eyes slowly travel over to his prey and he vamps out and rushes towards them Dana´s scream filling the echoey gym halls and reach your ears as you leave through the main entrance.

Damon | Middle of nowhere

“This isn’t going to work.” Jeremy tells Damon and Katherine firmly, sitting on the picnic table, his phone beginning to vibrate next to him. Katherine grabs it and saw a message from Bonnie.

“I think your witchy girlfriend is worried that you’ve run away with your ghostly lover.” Katherine chuckles.

“Stop with the teeny bopper drama.” Damon orders narrowing his eyes once again “Focus.”

“I´m not helping them.” Anna tells Jeremy.

No, it´s okay to help.” Jeremy promises.

To Damon and Katherine there is only empty space, but Jeremy could see her clear as day “They are looking for a way to stop Klaus.”

“I don’t care. Katherine is not a friend to you. Neither of them are.” Anna crosses her arms stubbornly over her chest.

“What´s she saying?” Damon asks impatiently.

“Well, she doesn’t want to help you.” Jeremy shrugs.

“My advice?” Katherine looks at Damon and lowers her voice so only he could hear her “ If you want to make an omelet, you have to break a few eggs.”

Damon understands what she is referring to and turns his head “Jeremy I want you to know, it’s nothing personal” he grabs Jeremy´s hair and slams his head against the table he has been sitting on.

“Ow! What the hell!?” Jeremy growls.

“Jeremy!” Anna calls out in concern.

“Anna, I know you can hear me.” Damon yells into the void “Tell us what you know. The sooner, the better for your little boyfriend here.”

“They’re looking for Mikael.” Anna told Jeremy.

“Mikael!” Jeremy calls.

“Mikael. Is that his name?” Katherine asks.

“Who´s Mikael?” Damon asks giving her a clueless look.

“The vampire who hunts vampires.” Anna explains to Jeremy “You don’t want to wake him. He will kill all of you.”

“What´s she saying?” Damon looks at Jeremy who had been watching Anna talk.

“He´s a vampire and a hunter, and you guys would be idiots to wake him.” he replies and looks back to Anna “What do you mean, wake him?”

“It´s time to go and find the keys.” Damon tells Katherine and she agrees with a nod.

Stefan | Mystic Falls Gym

Stefan is feeding on Chad, his screams have died out by now and Dana was already dead at his feet “´It’s always so nice to see a vampire in his true element. The species has become such a broody lot..” Klaus notes.

“No. You did this to him.” Elena spats.

“I invited him to the part, love. He´s the one dancing on the table.” Klaus countered as Rebekah storms in the room rushing for Elena.

“Where is it?” she yells “Where is my necklace?”

“What are you talking about?” Klaus asks rather annoyed

“She has my necklace. Look!” Rebekah hands him Elena´s phone and he saw the necklace that he needed around Elena´s neck.

“Well, well. More lies.” Klaus looks at Stefan.

“Where is it?” Rebekah asks again, her voice dangerously low.

“I don’t have it anymore.” Elena promises.

“You’re lying!” Rebekah screams, dark veins appearing under her eyes and she hurries over to Elena biting her neck but Klaus pulls her off.

“Knock it off!”

“Make her tell me where it is, Nik!” Rebekah screams like a child that has lost its favorite toy. Klaus walks over to her and looks into Elena´s dark brown eyes “Where’s the necklace, sweetheart? Be honest.”

“I´m telling the truth. Katherine stole it.”

“Katerina. Of course. Well, that’s unfortunate. If we had the necklace it would make things a whole lot easier for your witch, but since we’re doing this the hard way, let’s put a clock on it, shall we?” he grabbed a remote and the board atop the gym buzzes once the clock appears“ 20 minutes” he walks over to Stefan and compels him once again  “If Bonnie hasn’t found a solution by then, I want you to feed again. Only this time, I want you to feed on Elena. You know you want to. If she tries to leave, fracture her spine.”

He smirks at them and leaves, Rebekah following close behind.

Damon | Random highway

Jeremy is still sitting on the bench slowly falling asleep while blood trickles down his forehead where his head hit the table earlier.

“Don’t fall asleep, Jer.” Damon calls out as he approaches him “You might have a concussion.”

Thanks for the concern, dick.” Jeremy retors.

“Oh, stop pouting” Katherine orders “He took one for the team. Everyone back home will thank you once Klaus is dead.”

“Where’s my phone?” Damon asks, feeling like he must have lost it somewhere.

“Do you need to check in with Elena? Make sure it’s okay you pummeled her little baby bro?” Katherine smirks.

“You know you have it.”

“What can I say? I needed you present here and now.”

Damon holds out his hands “Katherine, phone, now.” She sighs and gives it to him and he looks at it “Bonnie’s been texting me.”

“What is it?” Jeremy asks concerned.

“It’s Klaus.”

“No turning back, Damon.” Katherine reminds him.

“Shut up, Katherine.” he hisses.

“Hey, look at the big picture. The best shot at taking out Klaus is by finding Mikael.” she tries to keep him on the task at hand once more but with no avail.

He looks at Jeremy and presses the car key to his chest “Stay with her so Anna can guide you. I’m going back.”

You’re going to get yourself killed.” Katherine calls out and Damon turns his face to her “The Damon I remember wouldn’t have been that stupid.

“I wouldn’t have done it for you.” Damon deadpanns and takes off.

Stefan | Gym

There are only a few minutes left on the clock and Stefan begins pacing up and down the wooden floor.

“Stefan, you can control this. When that buzzer goes off, just…just drink from me.”

You don’t get it. I can’t stop, Elena! I’m a ripper!A ripper doesn’t stop! I listen to the words that come out of your mouth, and all I hear is the sound of your heart pumping blood through your body.” his voice is cold as he drags his fingers through his disarranged hair “And when that clock ticks down…I’m going to have to feed on you. And you want to know what’s worse? I’m not going to be able to stop.”

“I don’t believe that. You can fight it. You just have to want it bad enough.” Elena assures him.

“Why, because I love you?” his voice breaks.

“Yeah! That’s right, Stefan. Because you love me. You’ll fight because after everything that we’ve been through, you owe me that!” Elena tells him as tears roll down her face.

“You know what, you’re right. You’re right. I owe you everything. Because through all of this, you are the one thing that has kept me from giving up; from turning it all off. But I can’t help what I am, Elena. The more blood that I get, the more I want, and if I get so much as near yours…You are dead.” Stefan confirms.

Stefan looks at the clock and realizes that only a few moments are left “Elena, you’re going to have run.”

“But Klaus said that if I run-”

“I know what he said, but if you stay, it won’t matter.” The clocks is getting closer and closer and Stefan begins to panic  “Elena, please, please, please. Elena, there’s no other way.”

“There is another way, Stefan. It’s for you to fight.” Elena tells him as the buzzer rings, signifying that the time as run out. “Stefan…I love you. Fight, Stefan. Don’t give up.

“I can’t hold it.” he vamps out and charges towards Elena. She screams but Stefan manages to rush past her to the opposite wall “Elena, run! Go!”

Elena takes off and runs through the school, passing through numerous of hallways, while Stefan tries to hold onto everything in his way so he does not have to hurt Elena. But eventually, he rushes out of the gym and crashes from side to side through the hallways. Elena goes through another door and bumps into Klaus once again.

“We’ve got to stop meeting like this.” Klaus smirks.

Stefan runs into the cafeteria and grabs a wooden mop that the janitor placed there, and he takes it and breaks it on his knee. He holds the remaining makeshift stake in front of him and stabs himself in the stomach. Klaus enters moments later with Elena firmly in his grasp.

“Now this is fascinating. I’ve never seen this before. The only thing stronger than your craving for blood is your love for this one girl. Why don’t you turn it off?

“No!” Stefan growls.

“Come on. Your humanity is killing you. All the guilt must be exhausting.Turn it off.” Klaus suggests.

“No!” Stefan growls again.

“Stefan…” Elena whispers.

“You’re strong.”Klaus reaches Stefan and removes the stake “But you’re not that strong. Turn….it…..off.”

“No!”  Stefan shoves Klaus away from him and ignites Klaus´short temper with that action. He pins Stefan against the wall and compels him yet again.

“Turn it off!” He yells and Stefan respond immediately this time, his face features hardening and his eyes turning emotionless.

“What did you do?” Elena whimpers

“I fixed him” Klaus himself seems oddly surprised by his own rash action “But I think a test is in order, don’t you?” He charges over to her and holds her firmly against his chest “Ripper…Perhaps you’d like a drink.. from the doppelgangers neck?”

Dark veins crawl up Stefan’s eyes and he zips towards Elena and bites her neck.

Y/N | Near the Mystic Falls border

You have been walking for quite a while, trying with all your might to resist Klaus´ compulsion, sadly with no avail.

 You are near your hometowns border leading to the next town. As your eyes fall upon the city sign, a memory manifests itself in your mind

New Orleans 1912

“Kol, do you ever miss your home?” you ask tracing your fingers over the letter Stefan had sent you.It has been a few weeks since you briefly reunited with your brothers for your uncle’s funeral, but as usual, things did not work out quite the way you hoped“The one in Mystic Falls I mean?”

The sound of Kol flipping several pages fills the rounded walls of the tomb “No.” he replies “Why? Do you?”

“I miss how close we were.” you reply folding the letter and putting it aside “But the town itself? No. If I never set foot in this city again it´ll be too soon.”

Kol looks up and notices your slightly furrowed eyebrows. He closes the book and walks in your direction “You’re worried about your brother, aren’t you?” he asks. You nod.

“Listen, Y/N” he gently rests his hands on your shoulder, his brown eyes staring into yours “from what I gathered, your brother seemed to have handled this situation before. I am sure he will again.”

“If you mean ripping people apart, then yes, he´s handling that very well.”

“No, what I mean is that you are not at fault for the choices he makes. You should not feel responsible to clean up his messes. Not anymore.” his right hand drops down and brushed over yours, holding onto it carefully “And for what it’s worth, you will always have a home here. Even in a tomb like this.”

“Thank you. You´re a good.. friend, Kol”

“Friends..right.” he forces a smile and retrieves his hand,  Something has changed in Kol´s eyes, but you cannot quite make out what it is.

Is he…is he hurt?

Y/N | Present time

Bright high beams rip you out of your nostalgic memory as the care comes to a step next to you, a voice calling out you have not heard in a while.

“Y/N? What the hell are you doing?” Damon asks backing up his car slowly..

“I´m taking an involuntarily late-night walk.” you reply and turn your head to your older brother “Klaus compelled me.” you clarify.

“How do you know Klaus?”

“Long story.” you wave him off knowing that eventually you have to fess up “But we don’t have time for this right now. Just go and help Stefan.”

“Right.” he nods and stops the slow-rolling car “Get in.”

“I can´t. But I´ll come back as soon as I can.” you shake your head. You know all too well that Stefan is in danger right this moment and there is no second to spare. Sure, Damon could have sped you to the next town border and turn around to head for Mystic Falls. But maybe the minutes he would have wasted on breaking your compulsion may be the minutes to save Stefan´s life.

“But-”

“Just go, Damon!” you cut him off, gesturing him to finally listen to you.

Damon nods and drives off leaving you to continue your not so lovely late-night walk

Klaus | Highschool

Moments later Klaus enters the classroom where Rebekah, Tyler and Caroline are currently in “Well, the verdict’s in. The original witch says the doppelgänger should be dead.

Rebekah grins and rises from the seat she sat in “Does that mean we can kill her?”

"No, I’m fairly certain it means the opposite."

"What?!" Rebekah hisses. not amused in the slightest.

"Call it a hunch…”Klaus begins and slides a  vial with blood over the table while Rebekah brings her arms around Caroline and restrains her .”Elena’s blood. Drink it.”

"No! No, no, no, Tyler, don’t!” Caroline screams.

“If he doesn’t feed, he’ll die anyway, love. Consider this an experiment” Klaus shrugs as Tyler grabs the vial and gulps it down “There we go. Good boy.”

Tyler immediately starts coughing and falls from the desk he has been lying on and groans and writhes in pain once he hits the floor. He holds his head in his hand and continues screaming until suddenly, he looks up and his eyes changed into a bright amber color with prominent black veins underneath.

“Well, that´s a good sign” Klaus smiles, satisfied with the result

Elena | Mystic Falls Hospital

Later on the same night, Elena wakes up in a hospital with a nurse by her side. “Where am I?”

“In the hospital sweetie. You suffered through a terrible ordeal” the nurse replies.

“I have to get out of here.” Elena sits up but the nurse gently forces her down again.

“Ah. Not an option. You´ve lost a lot of blood.” she gestures to the filled blood bags on the table in front of her

“Wait you’re taking my blood?”

“Of course. It´s very important for your friend Klaus.” the nurse replies and Elena starts struggling, trying to get free but the nurse injects her with another set of sedatives “Don’t fight it, sweetie. He told me you need plenty of rest.”

Elena´s sight blurry and she falls back on the pillow fast asleep.

Meanwhile in front of the Hospital

“So the doppelganger isn’t the problem.” Rebekah concludes “Her blood is the solution.”

“Seems so” Klaus sighs.

“How did you know?”

“Well, you know how much the original witch hated me.” Klaus explains “Do you honestly think I would do anything other than the opposite of what she says?”

“A thousand years in the grave and she’s still screwing with you.” Rebekah huffs.

"Well, it makes sense if you think about it from her perspective. It was her fail-safe in case I ever broke the hybrid curse. The doppelgänger had to die in order for me to become a hybrid, but if she was dead…”

“Then you couldn’t use her blood to sire yourself a new species.” Rebeka concludes.

“Leaving me alone for all time.”Klaus nods, sadness overshadowing his being for a mere second.

“Is that what this is about? Your obsession with hybrids?” she looks at him, hurt that she is not good enough for his brother to be happy “You just don’t want to be alone?”

“What I want is to take my girl, take my hybrid and get the hell out of this one-pony town.” himpatiently “You know, why don’t you, uh, get the truck? I’ll get Elena.” Rebekah scoffs and leaves just before Damon arrives.

“Well, look who finally decided to show up to the party.” Klaus smirks

“Where is she?” Damon asks, instead of asking for Stefan´s location.

Damon goes toward the hospital, determined to save Elena himself but Klaus stops him “I’m afraid I can’t let you interfere, mate.”

“You’ll have to kill me.” Damon replies in all honesty.

“Oh, I would love to kill you, but I made a pledge to your brother, and unlike him, I keep my word. Although, you know what, thinking about it now, he probably doesn’t care that much anymore.” he throws Damon on the hood of a nearby car ready to plunge his hand into him and rip his heart out.

"Don’t you want to know about your friend Mikael?” Damon says while Klaus´hand is wrapped around his throat

Klaus smug expression instantly get overshadowed with fear “What do you know about Mikael?” he asks , his voice trembling.

"Just that he knows you’re here.”he taunts, knowing that he found the big bad hybrids weak spot.

“You’re bluffing.”

"Katherine and I found him. Consider it our leverage.”  Klaus closes his eyes for a second, probably cursing in his mind that his nemesis Katherine found Mikael with Damon´s help. He then throws Damon against another car and Damon falls  to the ground. He gets up a minute later to defend himself against Klaus, but  he has already disappeared. Damon seizes the opportunity and hurries inside the hospital. He  passes a few rooms before he finally find Elena.

“Damon…” she whispers.

“Hey.” he brushed a few strand hair out of her face with a relieved smile is on his face. He puts his arms under her and lifts her out of the bed and carries her out of the room.

Y/N| Boarding House

After you finally reached the town border, you instantly mad your way back to town. You “borrowed” a car and sped back to Mystic Falls where you stopped by the school first. However, Stefan or Klaus where to be found anywhere, so you decided to check your old home.

With squealing tires you bring your car to a stop in the driveway, parking directly behind Damon´s Camaro. You take a deep breath before entering your old home and your mind instantly flooded with nostalgia. You have not been here since you briefly visited in the 50´s.

You use your vamp hearing to determine where Damon and hopefully Stefan are, but you only hear Damon talking to a female voice. You make your way towards the library and you have to realize that to your disappointment, Damon chose to comfort the doppelganger instead of finding his brother.

“Are you serious?”

“Do you ever knock?” Damon sighs, avoiding your glare.

“Never have, never will. Besides, this was my house too once. “ you remind him as your eyes fall upon Damon´s hand on Elena´s knee.

“Well isn’t this cozy?” Stefan interrupts and leans against a pillar at the opposite side of the room.

Damon quickly retrieves his hand and gets up“What are you doing here, brother?”

Stefan walks into the room to the drink table and pours himself a drink.

“Last I checked, I live here. “ he reports “Klaus is gone, but he’s asked me to keep watch on you until he returns. From now on, you’re under my protection.”

“Gone? What do you mean Klaus is gone? Where the hell did he go?” you ask  but Stefan only shrugs.

Stefan looks over to Elena and raises his glass to take a drink “Mmm, by all means. Carry on.” he smiles and leave the room.

Oh this is going to be interesting.And not in a good way. There is no way you can leave now. That means you are here to pick up the pieces once again..

The next morning after, you returned to the manor, but stopped at the sight of the three servants, sulking by the side of the house.

"This has gotta be the worst holiday ever." Bard complained with his head down.

"The worst, yes it is." Mey-Rin agreed.

"What's the matter?" You asked as you walked up to them. "You were so excited on the way here."

"Yeah, well, that was before..." Bard said.

"Don't look so gloomy." You said with a smile, before holding up a picnic basket and swimsuit. "We're on a holiday, it's a time meant for relaxing." Huge smiles broke out on their faces as they perked up.

"Yeeeaaahhh!!" "Aahh hahaha!" Bard and Finny cheered as they ran and jumped into the pond.

You smiled at them as you stood beside Ciel who sat on a chair, reading a book while Sebastian poured his tea.

"Don't you care to bathe with them, young master?" Sebastian asked, but Ciel only turned the page. "Oh, I see. Is that the problem? The master can't—"

"I don't see why they're making such a fuss about this little pond. Just because you can bathe doesn't make it a resort." Ciel interrupted.

"You still intend to make this place into a resort then?" You asked.

"Naturally." He replied.

"But what about this great demon hound?" You questioned.

Ciel slightly laughed. "Surely you know as well as I by now. This demon hound is no dog." You smiled. "Shall we discuss it further?" He asked while looking up at you from his book.

"Only if you wish to, sir." You replied.

He gestured for you both to come closer and you and Sebastian moved on either side of him. He leaned in and whispered his orders in both of your ears. "Now go."

You both smiled. "Yes, very well, master." You said as you stood up.

"You may consider it done." Sebastian said before you both started walking away, but stopped when Ciel spoke.

"You're very cooperative, Sebastian. Especially for someone who hates dogs."

Sebastian looked back at him. "Yes, I detest them. That's why I'd like to finish this as quickly as possible." He said before you both started to walk again.

"Yes, preferably, before it all goes to hell." You added.

After you and Sebastian had finished finding evidence for Ciel's theory, you both were heading back to the pond, but stopped at the sight of a gathering crowd.

You both looked at each other and followed after. Your eyes went wide at the sight of Ciel chained to the wall and the servants bound to a pillar.

"You're so pathetic. You rely on lowly tricks to retain your meager power. If there's a stubborn dog here, I'd say I'm looking at him." Ciel spat at Lord Henry.

"Is that your final choice? You can learn what happens to a dog that challenges me! Get him!" He ordered as a set of vicious dogs were released, but before they could get to Ciel, you and Sebastian jumped in front of him and kicked all the dogs away, making them fly and land hard on the ground.

"You cut that close." Ciel muttered.

"It won't happen again, trust me." You stated as you pulled down your gloves.

"You dare to interfere, dogs?" Barrymore questioned. "Well, what are you mangy mutts waiting for?! Kill all of them now!" He ordered as another set of dogs all looked at you and growled.

"Shameful. What coarse, noisy growls they have...One of the reasons I despise these creatures." Sebastian muttered as he stared at them with his eyes turning demonic.

They all whimpered and lied down before you, making the crowd gasp. "What the hell?! What did you do?!" Lord Henry questioned.

"Your pitiful farce ends here, Barrymore! Listen, there is no demon hound! It's all a lie! There's just him, an old man obsessed with power, determined to keep it no matter what!" Ciel yelled.

"What?! What evidence do you have?" Barrymore demanded.

"There's this." Sebastian said as he walked over to one of the dead dogs and took out it's skull. "We found it in your mansion. We took the liberty of confirming that the teeth marks on James matched the teeth in this skull." He held it up.

"Do you see it now?" Sebastian said as he pointed at the sky, which showed the same dog silhouette you saw last night. Everyone looked up at it. "The truth behind the demon hound. Its shadow is nothing but a projection. Just a transparent trick."

"The glowing is phosphorescent dust sprinkled on a normal dog." You stated as you took out a bottle and poured the dust out on the ground.

"The demon dog is merely an illusion, a story made up by an evil man. The man you let rule your village. This man, Henry Barrymore!" Ciel yelled.

"No! It's all nonsense! You can't fool them! Where's your evidence?" Barrymore questioned.

Ciel smirked as you walked over to the dog that belonged to the victim, that was now on the verge of death from being attacked.

You knelt down and petted the dog. "You can rest. Your duty is done. We'll take it from here."

It gave a small whimper as it’s eyes closed and you pulled a piece of fabric from it's mouth and stood up. "What fine material. I wonder why the dog was eager to hold on to it until the last moment. Interesting behavior, don't you think?" You turned and showed the fabric which matched Barrymore's pants.

He looked at you in shock. "Wh-What the hell?!"

"Yours. A scrap of cloth from your pants, torn off by James's dog when you attacked his master. You recognize it, yes?" You asked.

He glared at you and turned to run away, but was blocked by the mob of angry citizens.

"Give up, Barrymore! It's all over now!" Ciel yelled as one of the citizens pulled his pant leg up, revealing bite marks.

The people lifted him up and carried him away while chanting. "Punish James's killer! Punish James's killer!"

With Barrymore pleading. "No, please, stop!"

You untied the servants as Sebastian released Ciel from his chains. "My goodness, I'm glad that's over, yes I am!" Mey-Rin exclaimed as Finny knelt down to the dead victim's now dead dog.

"You were one amazing pup. A loyal dog defending his master to the very end..." He picked up it's body and held it close. "You were a good boy... Such a good boy..." He said as he began to cry into it.

"There you go. Yet another reason that I hate dogs." Sebastian muttered as you all stared at him.

Night had fallen as the skies were grey and the rain beat down upon the manor. "Yet another case closed, eh?" Ciel said as he gazed out the window of his room while you and Sebastian packed his clothes. "We can leave the village when the rain lets up."

"Indeed." You replied.

"Waaaaaahhh!" Your head shot up as a loud scream echoed throughout the manor.

"What was that?!" Ciel questioned, before you all took off running out of the room.

You all ran down to the dungeon and stopped at the sight of Barrymore, gone, a pile of blood and a hole in the brick wall.

"Where is Lord Barrymore?" Angela questioned as she ran up behind you. A sudden pounding on the front door made you all turn around and head to the front.

Angela opened the door, revealing a man who fell to the floor while heavily breathing. "The demon hound... The great hound is here." He said as he looked up.

"The hound?!" Everyone questioned.

After grabbing your coats, you all ran outside, back to where you first found Ciel and the servants. You stopped, seeing the crowd of villagers, all on the floor, chanting.

"What's happening?" Sebastian questioned.

♪ Lullaby, the sun sets, lullaby and good night ♪

"Snap out of it! What you all doin'?!" Bard yelled, but they ignored him and continued chanting.

A sudden flash of lightning came, it was enough to light up and reveal Lord Henry's body, leaning up against the wall, making the servants scream.

Ciel looked at you and Sebastian and you both walked through the crowd to the body. As you both knelt down, Sebastian lifted up his arm, showing his hand bitten off.

"Oh great demon hound!" "Please, please, oh, please!" "Demon hound, please forgive us!" They all pleaded as the rain beat down.

You, Ciel, Sebastian, and the servants stood in the drawing room of Barrymore's mansion. "Well, this is unfortunate, master. To think all this happening after the case was closed. I'm sure you're a bit... annoyed?" You looked down at Ciel with a smirk at where he sat.

"Are you quite finished?" Ciel said in annoyance.

"Where is Angela?" Sebastian asked.

"We left her resting up in her bed for now. She seems tired, yes she does." Mey-Rin answered.

"So painful to watch. Poor bird." Bard stated.

"This village isolated itself completely from the rest of society out of fear of the demon hound's curse...I thought for certain the hound was an illusion created by Lord Barrymore so he could firmly rule the village. But with him dead... I need to rethink things." Ciel put a finger to his lips.

"He was covered in bite wounds... Maybe the villagers are right. Maybe it really was the demon hound." Bard suggested.

"Maybe he's upset at being blamed for Lord Henry's misdeeds." Mey-Rin added.

"Yes, maybe. For now, there's only one thing we know: it wasn't human." You stated.

"The hound then." Bard said.

Ciel sighed and rubbed his head. "No matter, it's been a long night. I shall retire and think more of this in the morning." Ciel said as he stood and walked away with Sebastian following.

"Y/N, you come as well." He called.

"Yes, sir." You replied as you followed.

You stood behind Sebastian as he finished dressing Ciel for bed, with Ciel staring at you as he did.

You tilted your head. "Is something the matter?"

"It's about what you said earlier, how you phrased it. What you said was this wasn't human work. What if that bloody reaper has gotten himself involved in this?" Ciel questioned, referring to Grell.

You slightly laughed. "It seems you're learning faster every day. I'm so very proud of you, sir. But there is no need to worry. I believe Mey-Rin's thought was not wholly incorrect."

"The hound was after Lord Henry. I don't believe anyone else is in danger of becoming its victim." Sebastian finished as he stood up and put away Ciel's clothes.

"That's not enough information for me to close the case." Ciel said.

"Ah, such loyalty to your Queen. Quite touching, really." He said while putting his clothes in the closet.

"That's not it. At least not all of it. You're usually so calm and steady Sebastian, but this case seems to have you rattled. I'm interested about this issue you have with the dogs." Ciel said with a smirk as Sebastian looked back at him.

You chuckled. "As I said, you learn faster every day."

You opened the doors to the dining room and walked to stand by Sebastian, who was pouring tea for Ciel with Bard and Tanaka watching. "For today's tea we have a cabinet pudding. It was made using local blackberries." You announced as you placed it beside Ciel.

Ciel looked at Sebastian who was smiling. "You're certainly relaxed."

"Because we're in no hurry, sir." Sebastian replied, right before the doors opened with Mey-Rin and Finny running in.

"Sebastian, Y/N, hurry!" Mey-Rin yelled.

"What's the matter this time? Do calm down, please." You said.

"We've looked all over, but we can't find Angela!" Finny shouted.

"Oh, is that all? Yeah, don't worry about it. She said there were some medicinal herbs growing by the fen. She went there to pick some up, that's all." Bard informed.

"Right now? Why would she?" Finny asked.

"She went all alone when there might be a demon hound out there?" Mey-Rin questioned.

Bard thought in realization. "Oh, hell..."

"What was she thinking going out all by herself?" Finny pondered.

"She said she was worried, you know, about you being kind of sick and all." Bard said.

"For me? She went for me?" Finny questioned in disbelief, before running out of the room.

"C'mon, Sebastian! Let's go help him!" Bard said as he ran over.

"Well, er..." Sebastian drifted off.

"Hurry! Are you a red-blooded man or aren't you!" Bard yelled, making you crack a smile.

"Fine, then. Let's go, Mey-Rin."

"Sir, yes, sir!" She saluted.

"Where's Tanaka?" He asked, before turning.

"Ho ho ho ho..." Tanaka laughed, now dressed in a hunter's uniform.

"That's the spirit! Okay, let's move out, men!" Bard yelled.

"Sir, yes, sir!"

"Ho ho ho ho..."

They ran to the door, before Bard stopped and looked back at you. "Come on, Y/N!"

You looked at them and sighed. "Perhaps I should keep an eye on them, sir." You said as you looked at Ciel. He nodded and waved you off. You bowed, before walking after the servants, who were already gone.

Ciel took a bite of his cake and wiped his mouth, before looking at Sebastian. "You know, I'm quite interested. What color is your blood?"

He only stared at him.

"At any rate, it looks as if we do need to hurry now." Ciel said.

Sebastian sighed. "Go out there and put on a good show for me. Am I clear?"

Sebastian looked down at him. "Perfectly, my young lord."

THE ‘RUSSIA HOAX’ IS A HOAX

A report by the Department of Justice inspector general debunks the claims that the investigation into political interference by the Kremlin was a left-wing conspiracy to depose the president.

The IG report knocked down the various claims that Trump and his allies have made, one by one. The report confirmed that the Russia investigation originated, as has been previously reported, with the Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos bragging to an Australian diplomat about Russia possessing “dirt” on Hillary Clinton, which the IG determined “was sufficient to predicate the investigation.” The widespread conservative belief that the investigation began because of the dubious claims in the Steele dossier was false. “Steele’s reports played no role” in the opening of the Russia investigation, the report found, because FBI officials were not “aware of Steele’s election reporting until weeks later.”

If you are following mainstream news outlets, you know that in 2016, Donald Trump benefited from a Russian hacking and disinformation campaign designed to help him get elected, even as he sought permission from the Russian government to build a hotel in Moscow. You know that he deflected blame from Russia for that campaign, even as he sought to benefit from it politically. You know that shortly after the election, Trump told Russian officials in the Oval Office that he didn’t mind their efforts on his behalf, inviting further interference. And you know that while those acts may not have amounted to criminal conspiracy, the president’s insistence that there was “no collusion” flies in the face of established facts.

If you are ensconced in the pro-Trump-propaganda universe of Fox News and its spawn, you know something different. You know that the Russia investigation was a “hoax” developed by the “deep state” and the media, an attempt by a fifth column within the FBI to engage in a “coup,” a conspiracy, a frame job, “nothing less than the attempted overthrow of the U.S. government.” Any evidence of wrongdoing by the president, in this universe, has been manufactured by Trump’s shadowy and powerful enemies—George Soros, liberals in the FBI, Barack Obama.

The belief that Trump is the victim of a vast and ongoing conspiracy is a crucial element of the president’s enduring appeal to his supporters. If the allegations against the president are all completely false, then his supporters can continue to back him with a clear conscience, because anything and everything negative they hear about the president must be false. The consistency of that message is more important than the actual details, which frequently end up contradicting complex explanations for the president’s innocence that are often incongruous with each other, such as the insistence that Robert Mueller’s investigation was a “total exoneration” of the president, but also “total bullshit.”

The Department of Justice inspector general’s probe into the origins of the Russia investigation, which was released Monday, found no evidence that any of the Trump conspiracy theories surrounding the origin of the investigation are true. The investigation was not launched on Obama’s orders, it was not an effort by pro–Hillary Clinton FBI agents to prevent Trump from getting elected, and it was not predicated on the existence of opposition research gathered by the former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele. The president’s defenders have taken to referring to the entire investigation as “the Russia hoax,” insisting that the entire investigation was an effort by “persons within the FBI and Barack Obama’s Justice Department” who “worked improperly to help elect Clinton and defeat Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.” But the IG report shows that the “Russia hoax” defense is itself a hoax, and a highly successful one, aimed at reassuring Trump supporters who might otherwise be troubled by the president’s behavior.

The inconsistencies and contradictions of the “Russia hoax” narrative appear not to trouble the president’s supporters. Rather, as George Orwell wrote in 1944, “For quite long periods, at any rate, people can remain undisturbed by obvious lies, either because they simply forget what is said from day to day or because they are under such a constant propaganda bombardment that they become anaesthetized to the whole business.” The numbness to every new Trump revelation, no matter how shocking, is in part a product of the president’s success in fatiguing anyone who might be interested in what the facts are.

Republicans’ claim that the investigation began because the FBI misled the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to obtain permission to surveil the former Trump campaign aide Carter Page was false. The IG also “did not find any records” that Joseph Mifsud, the professor who told Papadopoulos the Russians had obtained “dirt” on Clinton, was an FBI informant sent to entrap him. The former FBI agent Peter Strzok and the former FBI attorney Lisa Page, who shared anti-Trump sentiments over text and have become key villains in the Trumpist narrative of a “coup,” never had the power to do what has been attributed to them. The IG report notes that Page “did not play a role in the decision to open” the Russia investigation, and that Strzok was “was not the sole, or even the highest-level, decision maker as to any of those matters.”

The IG report also determined that “the FBI had an authorized purpose when it opened [the Russia investigation] to obtain information about, or protect against, a national security threat or federal crime, even though the investigation also had the potential to impact constitutionally protected activity.” Moreover, the IG found “no evidence” that “political bias or improper motivation influenced the decisions” to investigate Trump advisers with ties to Russia.

There is, in short, no “deep state” anti-Trump conspiracy, no network of perfidious liberals in the FBI seeking to take down Trump. There is, however, voluminous evidence of reprehensible behavior by the president, first taking advantage of a foreign attack on the 2016 election for personal and political profit, seeking to obstruct the investigation into that interference, and then falsely concocting an elaborate conspiracy theory to avoid accountability for his actions.

Nevertheless, there are important systemic problems with the FBI and the way that the U.S. government approves invasive surveillance techniques on American citizens. The report notes that while the FBI had a sufficient factual predicate for opening the investigation, that is because the FBI and the Department of Justice must meet a “low threshold” for justifying such an investigation. In addition, while the IG report found no evidence that “political bias or improper motivation influenced the FBI’s decision to seek FISA authority on Carter Page,” the IG did determine that the Page FISA application was “inaccurate, incomplete, or unsupported by appropriate documentation,” which misled the court as to the credibility of the FBI’s evidence when seeking authority to surveil Page.

Liberals may be tempted to dismiss such findings as unimportant. But federal investigations are incredibly invasive, and having a stricter standard for the circumstances under which an investigation can be opened would help ensure that this authority is not abused; the Clinton Foundation investigation began—and this is no joke—with an anti-Hillary book paid for by the former Trump adviser Steve Bannon. If the FBI is making errors in seeking permission to surveil current or former advisers to a presidential campaign, the most politically sensitive kind of investigation, it suggests that there are many more flawed applications to be found in operations where the investigations are not nearly so delicate. The process for seeking permission to spy on American citizens suspected of being foreign agents should be more adversarial than it is, if only to keep the government honest.

Republicans however, do not seem at all interested in the actual legal and policy concerns the report raises. Rather, they are following the lead of the president and his attorney general, William Barr, in mischaracterizing the report’s findings. “This was an overthrow of government, this was an attempted overthrow—and a lot of people were in on it,” Trump declared, while Barr insisted, in a more lawyerly fashion, “The Inspector General’s report now makes clear that the FBI launched an intrusive investigation of a U.S. presidential campaign on the thinnest of suspicions that, in my view, were insufficient to justify the steps taken.”

Both of these statements contradict the report itself, which found no political bias behind the opening of the Russia investigation. Barr’s statement is a matter of opinion, which expresses his monarchical belief that Trump was above the law even before he became president. But whether Barr personally feels the evidence was sufficient to open an investigation, the IG determined that by FBI and DOJ standards, it was.

Trumpists will now pin their hopes on Barr’s handpicked investigator, U.S. Attorney John Durham, to provide some shred of evidence for Trump’s “deep state” conspiracy. After investigations failed to produce justification for an indictment of former FBI Director James Comey, whose actions helped put Trump in office prior to Trump firing him over the Russia investigation, or his deputy, Andrew McCabe, whose disclosures to the media harmed Clinton rather than Trump, and following two IG reports that found no evidence that the Russia investigation was the product of political bias, Durham will be under a tremendous amount of pressure from Barr to indict one of the president’s chosen enemies, if only to have a scapegoat to feed the right-wing propaganda machine and deter federal law enforcement from ever looking into criminal activity by the president or his allies again.

So the “Russia hoax” hoax continues, abetted by the sheer volume of conservative commentators and commentary capable of ignoring the text of the document and the weight of evidence, in favor of expressing obsequious loyalty to the president. The Russification of the Republican Party

GOP lawmakers used to oppose the president’s embrace of Putin and the Kremlin. Not anymore.

Just how far will Republicans go in following President Donald Trump’s embrace of Russia? An answer may be crystallizing as the GOP mobilizes its defense of the president against impeachment.

Both congressional Republicans and conservative commentators are defending Trump from impeachment partly by accusing Ukraine of intervening against him in the 2016 presidential election—despite repeated warnings from national-security and intelligence officials that those claims are not only baseless, but advance Vladimir Putin’s goal of discrediting Ukraine.

Earlier in Trump’s presidency, many Republicans sought to distance themselves from his warm tone toward Putin. But just this week alone, a number of Republican lawmakers, the official House Republican report rebutting impeachment, and the Fox News host Tucker Carlson have repeated Kremlin lines on Ukraine.

This flurry of GOP rhetoric comes as Democrats are raising alarm about the Republican-controlled Senate’s refusal to take action on the DETER Act, a bipartisan bill that would impose sanctions on Russia if it interferes again in 2020.

Senator Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, the act’s sponsor, has been unsuccessfully pressing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to attach the bill to a defense-authorization bill now in conference between the House and Senate, which would ensure its passage.

“Nobody has provided any substantive justification for opposing this measure,” Van Hollen told me in an interview. “All the testimony has been supportive of the DETER Act. And yet when you get behind closed doors, it’s not that anyone says they are opposed to it; they just won’t engage. McConnell would like to see this defeated without any of his fingerprints on it, but his fingerprints are there because he has refused to engage.”

Against the backdrop of Trump’s rhetorical warmth toward Putin, congressional Republicans have produced a mixed record on Russia. In 2017, virtually all Republicans joined with Democrats to pass legislation that prevented Trump from unwinding sanctions on Russia that former President Barack Obama imposed after the Kremlin’s 2014 invasion of Ukraine. Most House Republicans also voted earlier this year to block the administration from ending sanctions against the Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska. And many congressional Republicans loudly criticized Trump’s decision to withdraw troops from Syria earlier this year, which was widely viewed as benefiting Russia’s position in the region.

But at the same time, the Republican-controlled Senate allowed the Trump administration to go ahead with lifting sanctions against Deripaska in January. Democrats also grouse that Senate Republicans have looked the other way as Trump has failed to fully implement the sanctions legislation passed in 2017. And Senate GOP leaders have blocked action on the two bipartisan bills targeting Russia, the DETER Act and the broader Defending American Security From Kremlin Aggression Act.

Impeachment is now providing a new test case to measure how far Trump has steered congressional Republicans toward greater accommodation of Russia.

This new front opened when Representative Devin Nunes of California, the top Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, repeatedly insisted during last month’s impeachment hearings that Ukraine had meddled in the 2016 election against Trump. That drew a stern rebuke from one witness asked to testify, the former Trump National Security Council adviser Fiona Hill, who warned that congressional Republicans were spreading “a fictional narrative that has been perpetrated and propagated by the Russian security services themselves.”

But Hill’s words have not stopped Republicans from reprising those arguments. In late November, Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana claimed during a television interview that Ukraine, not Russia, might have hacked the Democratic National Committee’s computers in 2016. After retreating from that claim, he went on Meet the Press on Sunday and equated public criticism of Trump by some Ukrainian officials with Russia’s systematic interference campaign in 2016.

The Senate Intelligence Committee, during its investigation of 2016 election meddling, found no evidence of Ukrainian interference. But when asked about Kennedy’s comments this week, Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina, the committee’s chairman, came closer to endorsing rather than repudiating them.

“Every elected official in the Ukraine was for Hillary Clinton,” Burr told NBC. “Is that very different than the Russians being for Donald Trump?” Burr went on to liken Russia’s massive intelligence and hacking campaign to occasional public comments by Ukrainian officials critical of Trump. “The president can say that they meddled because they had a preference, the elected officials,” Burr said. Other Republican senators, including John Barrasso of Wyoming, offered similar arguments this week.

The report released on Monday by House Republicans likewise blurred the difference. “Publicly available—and irrefutable—evidence shows how senior Ukrainian government officials sought to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election in opposition to President Trump’s candidacy,” the report insisted.

Tucker Carlson took these arguments to new heights on his show Monday night, not only minimizing Russian involvement in 2016 but questioning why the U.S. was opposing its incursion into Ukraine at all. “I think we should probably take the side of Russia if we have to choose between Russia and Ukraine,” Carlson insisted.

No leading congressional Republicans have yet gone so far. But Republican foreign-policy experts are still worried about the attempts by GOP leaders to defend Trump by disparaging Ukraine.

“For starters, you end up validating the Kremlin line which they have been peddling since 2016: Yes, something happened, but it was because Ukraine did it and not us,” says Richard Fontaine, who runs the nonpartisan Center for a New American Security and was the top foreign-policy adviser to the late Senator John McCain of Arizona. “It’s one thing if Putin says these things, or if Kremlin spokespeople say these things; people, I hope, will take it with a gigantic mountain of salt. But when you have U.S. elected leaders saying these things, it gives it a significant dose of credibility, and that’s not a good thing.”

David Hale, an undersecretary in Trump’s own State Department, expressed that concern at a Senate hearing on Tuesday. When asked about the national-security ramifications of the rhetoric, Hale said pointedly, “It does not serve our interests.”

The accusations against Ukraine have drawn forceful pushback this week from Democrats, but only a few Republicans—most directly Senator Mitt Romney of Utah—have openly condemned them. “What you are seeing unfortunately is Republicans wanting to just adopt and parrot the Trump talking points, which also coincide with the Putin talking points,” Van Hollen said.

The big question now is how much of the GOP’s shifting tone on Russia reflects a lasting change, versus a temporary alignment with Trump or a tactical maneuver in the impeachment struggle.

Under Trump, the two party’s coalitions have unquestionably switched places on Russia. Through the early part of this century, more Republican than Democratic voters typically expressed negative views toward Russia. But since Trump’s election in 2016, Republicans have been more likely than Democrats to express a positive view about Russia.

Even before Trump’s election, some social conservatives lauded Putin as a defender of conservative social values and a potential partner in the fight against Islamic extremism, as Steve Bannon, Trump’s former top campaign aide and White House adviser, did in a 2014 speech. But the big movement in the GOP, according to polls, came after Trump started touting the potential benefits of closer relations with Putin—and questioning whether Russia actually interfered in 2016. In a poll by the Chicago Council released last February, just over half of Republican voters said the U.S. should seek a cooperative relationship with Russia, while nearly two-thirds of Democrats said America should mostly seek to contain Moscow. Among Republicans younger than 45, three-fifths wanted the U.S. to pursue a friendlier relationship with Russia.

Still, while more Republicans than Democrats now express positive opinions about Russia, even a large chunk of Republican voters express unfavorable views about Moscow and Putin, surveys have found. That encourages some GOP foreign-policy experts to believe the party’s flirtation with Russia may not outlast Trump.

Peter Feaver, a Duke University political scientist who served as a National Security Council aide to President George W. Bush, told me Trump’s accommodation of Russia is unlikely to precipitate any sort of lasting change. He argued that there is still enough skepticism in the party about Trump’s policy toward Russia—and the country’s international role more broadly—that the president risks eruptions of discontent that force him to retreat, like those he confronted over his withdrawal from Syria. Even inside the administration, he noted, most foreign-policy experts remain dubious of Putin, which helps explain why the administration’s actions toward Russia have sometimes been tougher than Trump’s accommodating rhetoric.

“No one knows for sure, including the president,” how far he can push the party, Feaver said. “The president is wandering around a mine field and doesn’t always know when he is going to step on a mine.”

That may be true. But the willingness of more congressional Republicans to amplify widely discredited arguments against Ukraine—despite repeated warnings from conservative national-security professionals that they are advancing Russian propaganda in the process—suggests that their tolerance for Trump’s repositioning of the party on Russia is only growing.

As Fontaine told me, historically, “one of the reasons people were attracted to the Republicans was because they were the party skeptical of the regime in Moscow.” That’s one more Republican tradition Trump has tossed onto the ash heap of history.
