My review of Dragon Age the Veilguard

(Nothing related to Joaquin this time ahaha) also some SPOILERS AHEAD! Once again that's my own personal experience with the games <3

My general impression: A solid 8/10, really enjoyed the game overall, I want to go through a second playthrough already. My impressions my evolve up or down with time as well.

What I loved in the game:

Artistic direction, such beautiful maps and environments, i'm not the kind of players to take screenshots and here I couldn't stop ahah.

A game that gets also quite vertical, you have to climb, jump, feels quite free and fun

The character design options, including gender diversity, wide options

The game is not bugged at all (I played on PC, it flowed perfectly)

You really get a feeling of Mass Effect 2, build a team for a suicide mission, action based, for me it was positive, huge ME fan

The combat was incredibly fun, you have so many options, such cool moves, I played a mage necromancer, and I would do it again. I also played from the Mourn Watch and it will probably remain my favorite

You can see the impact of your decision in the game, you can see things changing with time so you get a sense of threat, of emergency or hope

The story itself was really cool, like the vilains were amazing, they had a crazy aura and even Solas remain the king of sass

Act 1 and 3 were my favorite, so tense, you go everyowhere, you don't know what's going to be the outcome, etc, loved it

There are a lot of references in the game about the previous games, characters that you see again, if you played the other games it does feel reeally nice and if you didn't play the game that's okay as well^^

That secret ending! OMG I hope we get another game I'm really curious and it could change a lot of things

What I like less, things that could be better:

Gosh I don't know how to describe it ahah. First, romances, I wish we had more content (Lucanis water love making scene T_T), like in DAI (banter included) we had about 50 min (smthg like that), of content with our LI. In DATV it's about 20ish minutes, and I felt it a bit even though I had a really nice romance that will be my favorite as well which is Emmerich, he is so well written, and our son Manfred T_T also there was nudity and here not really, my rook wore underwear, it's not something super important but still it was suprising after MEA and Baldur.

I saw one post about this on Tumblr and I kind of understand what they meant. The post said something like you are the leader of the time and yet you feel apart from your companions sometimes, you see them hanging out, even flirting, in some cinematics you are like okay I leave you guys hanging out! I didn't feel like my companions truly appreciated me except Emmerich and Bellara a bit. like they didn't reach out to me in my room, we didn't hang out, have a game of wicked grace or such, no they were doing they book reading club, cooking chores and such but not rook. Idk I felt a bit left out sometimes compared to DAI where first of all you could not get along with a companion (like slap the egg) but I was bestie with Dorian and that could be felt!

I love my Rook really, had great fun, got attached and such but it's not like my inquisitor. I got so emotional to see my inky in DATV and all I was craving was to play her again, to see her more. Even if her not being the protagonist is well justified; I couldn't help but feel illegitimate, she should have been by the side of Varric, she should have been acting with Dorian in Minrathous, it was her fight. I struggle a bit to understand why Rook was better for that, maybe because he wasn't emotional attached to Solas (even if he kinda grew on him)

I romanced Solas in my last DAI playthrough and so I kinda had a closure and a nice one at the end of DATV (a few tears fell) BUT I also love romancing Dorian for example and I wish he had a cinematic with Inky of seeing each other again after years appart. Others romances as well, have some followup.

I love Hanz Zimmer, I was so hyped! and h edid a good job but turns out I wish Trevor Morris had been back for DATVn felt more epic, it got into your guts.

Anyway that's my thought 1h after finishing the game, maybe other points will come out later, but I just needed to share my impressions ^^

For the life of me I can’t understand how people think it’s acceptable for House of the Dragon a show that is pushing for more diversity (making the Velaryon’s Black and Mysaria Asian) to race bend the only canonical black character. If they wanted to race bend any of the characters they could’ve made Alys Rivers Indian. They could make Sara Snow Mexican and so on. It’s just so frustrating to see this happen time and time again in media when it comes to the portrayal of WOC in general but especially black women.

Like I don't care if people ship Daemyra you know? If shipping those two makes them happy go for it. My only thing is I just want them to stop with the racist shit they say about all the WOC in Daemon's life. From his lovers (cause they've said some racist shit about Mysaria too) to his wife and to even his daughters. At this point I'm convinced half of them don't even like Daemon because if they did they wouldn't stay shitting on the women who at one point or another were/are important to him.

The discourse surrounding Nettles is absolutely crazy and you can tell it’s being fueled by anti-black weirdos who are mainly Dumbnyra stans(lol Team Green have their issues too, but they aren’t the ones who are advocating to race bend Nettles 🙃)

Honestly, I did not have a problem with Dumbnyra(and yes I’m going to call it that) at the beginning of the show. I was indifferent to it. Moving on. If it’s not bashing Nettles they are blatantly ignoring that Rhaena and Baela are Daemon’s daughters and his only daughters. They’ll literally draw a million and one pictures of lizard baby (that’s what I’m calling it, cause again, these people don’t deserve respect) and pretend like it ever drew breath and that it is his only daughter🙃 Or my personal favorite which is essentially Daemon is a good father because he didn’t abandon them on the side of the road (where they belong).

They hate Rhea too and try to make her into a groomer to justify Daemon murdering her, but we aren’t going to get into that because we are talking about how this fandom treats the non-white women of Daemon’s life.

To literally anyone not ass deep in the dragon age trenches it seems so weird. And I know. And I know being upset at the lack of abhorrent fantasy racism that is way too similar to irl racism is WEIRD AS HELL. If you didn't wanna depict inequality and racism then you shouldn't have made tevinter and venatori part of your narrative idk QLNSKSJS.

It's very difficult to not sound batshit insane when saying "why isn't anyone being fantasy racist to me" but like genuinely why isn't anyone being fantasy racist to my openly elven rook. Especially when I'm parading around Minrathous, basically the racist slave capital of the world? Not a single comment? Really?

Why do I face more fantasy racism as an elf in ferelden than I do in fucking TEVINTER? why do we hear about slaves in codex entries specifically written by those who don't condone slavery but we don't really interact with one?

Also how come there's so many elves in tevinter working normal service jobs? I know a bunch of them will be liberatis I get that, but like. You can't even be an elf in goddamn ferelden or kirkwall without risking being abducted by tevinter slavers. And you're telling me you can be an elf in minrathous itself without being abducted by tevinter slavers? Like one or two sure especially if they're protected by the shadow dragons but like brooooo

Speaking of the difference between the south and the north - does northern thedas just not do alienages ??? Is that something we're scrubbing off too?? I get it for minrathous because. Lol. But like - antiva? Is that something I just forgot? Alienages are acknowledged in like One codex entry but why wouldn't the north have them?

Don't get me wrong I Have liked some of the recontextualisation the game has done - but I think a lot of this has to do with bioware being afraid of repercussion if they include their staple fantasy racism in their game. And I do fucking get it lol you especially don't want a game about being whoever you want to be turn around and be racist to your face depending on the race you choose. But the thing is that you had 3 games and tons of side media that built this up - the world of thedas is a very unequal one, a deeply racist one, and it does take players aback when they've gotten used to it and then play veilguard and they're just able to frolic in the streets of the tevinter capital as an elf with no repercussion and not a single comment from it's inhabitants

Like at some point it is a little bit immersion breaking just because we're otherwise so used to it and have been told several times that the north/tevinter would be much, much worse, you know?? But I do get that it's hard and that bioware is trying to move away from constantly hate criming their players. I get it's difficult. But it still hurts not just my immersion but in general hurts the worldbuilding and lore

There's a lot to be said about magic, too - but I'd want to reread the lore we had on these countries pre-veilguard and would like to also just, yknow, finish the game before I talk too much about it

I associate dragon or some bird with Claude. Claude is the only one whose unique classes have wyverns, his route is called Verdant Wind and as explained by Marianne when she title drops the route, she explains that Claude is like the wind beneath a bird's wings lifting them up into the sky, and VW and GW heavily feature themes of freedom (choice, religion, ideas, borders, etc.). Through all this and more Claude is highly associated in the games with flight. Eagles are used in traditional hunting practices in the Eurasian Steppe and by Turkic peoples, from which Almyra draws inspiration from.

Garreg Mach is like a British finishing school, yeah the students are getting some education and leadership skills but its also about rubbing shoulders with the rich and powerful and making connections. It looks good a resume.

I romance no one personally, but I am collecting all S supports for the hell of it. I do not self insert into Byleth but also the S supports are blatant self insert bait instead of really engaging with Byleth as a character so I can't even say I like them from a character writing perspective.

ahhh yes the writers had to have Edelgard be emotionally dependent on the player character. gotta make the player feel important and involved...

I know Yuri is what most people want for an Ashen Wolves/Church gay romance option but I would have liked to see some diversity in the gay S support options because with Linhardt and Yuri we have 2 pretty boys which is better than 1 I guess but I would have liked to see the addition of character a little different so I'll vote Balthus. Also idk about anyone else but the gay men I've met love beef more than anyone else.

my first thought when I saw Areadbhar was "that looks like a whale's fore fin's bones". Each relic was from a different dragon, that's why they all have different crests. The crest associated with Luin is the crest of Daphnel, so Daphnel got the blood of that dragon and a weapon made of their body. As for what body part, who knows, could have been a fang or a spine or carved out of a large bone.

Why Seteth and Flan look unchanged after 1000 years. If we interpret Rhea calling herself the "last" of Sothis' children as in youngest then she's younger then Seteth, but last could also mean last survivor of Nabatea. Nabateans, well dragons actually in Fire Emblem are a sort of immortal often worshiped as divine existence so they just stop aging at some point. Flayn specifically went into the regenerative sleep unique to dragons that Byleth does during the timeskip so you can think of the pause button being pressed for her life and then unpaused when she woke up recently. Also I think Flayn is just short, cheerful, and ignorant of modern society she's not actually all that young developmentally I think she was telling the truth when she says she's roughly the same age as the other students 16-20. Meta reason is they didn't want to make more character designs and models probably.

I don't really know if Indech ever met Cethlean before the events of the game. We do know that Cethleann fell into a long sleep from overusing her powers, we also don't know when she entered the War, so it is possible she and Indech were active at different periods. Given how reluctant Cihol would have been for her to fight I think it is more likely Cethleann fought in the later part of the war. Indech and Macuil both got fed up with humans eventually so it makes sense if he withdrew early. But all this is a lot of speculation on my part.

Yeah they're still Slithering in Azure Moon lol. Dimitri unknowingly kills Thales which I find hilarious but the Agarthan civilization and Shambhala is still intact and Nemesis and the zombie army is still in cryostasis. It has been debated how important Thales was like I've heard theorizing that he was the only one who could activate the intercontinental ballistic missile system but in the end we don't have a definitive answer about how important he was to Agarthan operations.

Raphael really is quite insightful! Has high emotional intelligence too and one of the healthiest grief responses in the game, offers some pretty good advice too like listen to your body, take things one step at a time, and take care of yourself.

The Ignatz quotes… yeah Ignatz has more change than most characters but a lot of people miss it because he isn't a very popular character and gameplay wise he's one of the few characters that gets better on maddening so most people don't use him on the easier difficulties. I find it very interesting that part of Ignatz changes and part of him doesn't its like you said the war hardens him but he keeps his love of the world and I like that about him. This is different than say Marianne where like everything about her changes (especially in VW) as she gets a new perspective on life.

I agree its sad that Caspar's English voice performance doesn't fit his character all that well, or at least not as well as his Japanese one does. Caspar is basically a shounen anime/videogame protagonist and he should sound like one and he does in Japanese but not in English. I love Caspar as a character I just don't like his English voice. The English voices are generally pretty good but there's a couple performances that make he cringe namely Caspar's and Mercedes'. Which is such a shame because their Japanese voices are perfect. In Japanese Caspar sounds like the stupid energetic jock shounen protag that he is, and Mercedes sounds very fuwafuwa exactly like a gently older sister type character which fits her so well. Her English voice sounds so forced.

So due to the open nature of the game there mostly isn't strictly a definitive canon class, just the most probably canonical/intended class. This is easiest to tell for the lords and Byleth as they get unique classes. For the other character look at what class they appear as as enemies although this isn't definitive either. For example Lorenz appears as an enemy paladin but given how his relic extends magic range and one of his best builds is in magic as well as his houses' history in magic and magic knights you could argue that his canonical class is dark knight not paladin. In the end there isn't really a definitive canon class just more canonical and less canonical classes like no one is arguing that war master is Lorenz's canon class. Or Manuela as an enemy appears as different classes on different maps. Another line of evidence is that unique outfits in part 2 for the students can be worn for certain classes that can be seen as their intended classes.

I will never be over how the game won't let me make Hilda a warmaster (or Linhardt a gremory).

With Almyra someone mentioned Turkic but I think it is more broadly central Asian influences with the horse culture and some of the imagery bringing to mind the Mongol Empire, combined with broadly Middle Eastern especially Persian. Faerghus might be Russian in climate but its more medieval Germanic with the warrior culture. I agree with aplumblum that Leicester reminds me most of the Italian Renaissance with it's focus on art and commerce, but with some Dutch and English influence as well, especially in the names. Morfis comes off as stereotypically Arabian/vaguely middle eastern as in magical desert city with the mystique of the height of the Arab empire highly associated with exotic magic, as seen from a European perspective. Brigid is almost entirely based on Southeast Asia (maybe with a bit of Oceania) as seen through the eyes of a Japanese developer. Dagda came off to me as Asian/East Asian as a very large and diverse continent that Fodlan is mostly just confused by and has conflicting accounts of. Plains? Deserts? Jungles? Tundra? Well if it's a continent then it'd be big enough for all of that. Dagda is also big and advanced enough to colonize Brigid and engage is a protracted long distance naval war. Also like how else did Fodlan get samurai???

Fodlan is already fantasy soup chronological hell, don't get too caught up on being historically accurate because the devs sure as hell don't care. Like in Faerghus you have the germanic warrior culture of the 1000s epics, you have chivalry codes of the 1300, Leicester almost looks Italian Renaissance which is like 1500, but there's also themes of the Enlightenment period and hints Fodlan is on the verge of the French Revolution so 1700-1800s. Tomatoes are from Mexico and peaches are from China and Fodlan has a bunch of made up fantasy fruits and vegetables. But yeah maybe the potato would fix Faerghus.

It's pretty obvious the Agarthans are evil I'd even say it goes too far with it, but a lot of people in the fandom tend to downplay either Rhea or Edelgard's agency when in reality they both have agendas that they are unwilling to negotiate on and that's where a lot of the overarching conflict in the story comes from.

The crest of Timotheos is associated with animals and perhaps had some power over them. Cornelia or the Agarthan that crawled into her skin probably experimented with the crest's power, trying to enhance and weaponize it and made it go haywire. The end result of twisting that latent power being Hapi's sighs summoning demonic beasts.

Me first playthough due to JRPG hoarding tendencies I didn't use the relics. Heros' relics are very easy to repair as umbral steel is very common so go ahead and use them at every opportunity, holy weapon materials are rarer but still worth using.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses has really weird gameplay for a Fire Emblem game and I happen to like the gameplay changes more than regular Fire Emblem gameplay. In most FE game level is class level and stats are what really matters but i find the 1-99 system more intuitive because no progress is ever lost, I also think the open sandbox-y nature complements the multiple routes and replay-ability.

Who cares about gameplay or "the meta" or damage when you have FASHION.

Edelgard gets some of the best designs in the game. I also like male Byleth, Dorothea, Petra, and Claude. The others are more situational Ignatz' part 2, Yuri's part 1 (the clown suit is a curse), Marianne's 3 Hopes, and Sylvain's part 1.

Wish we could toggle the little hats. The female warlock flower hat is cute. Or mortal savant kinda sucks but the mask looks really cool. Or dark knight's ram helmet.

My favorite classes: Falcon knight gives a little horned helmet to the horse, Bow knight because I love hit and run tactics, Dark knight because I like the magic knight concept, Mortal savant because it looks cool, Barbarossa because dragon (also a good class but most dragon and cool outfit). Brigand because what would I do without death blow

I have this pet conspiracy theory that Sothis is from the divine dragon tribe of other FE games (Shadow dragon, gaiden, Awakening, etc). I mean in Fates/IF characters literally get isekai'd and I think it happens in Awakening dlc too so dimension/world travel is an established part of the universe, it's very plausible Sothis is from Archanea.

Why Mercedes's mother ended up in House Bartels if she was the one with a crest. Hard to say, Adrestian House politics are brutal, Nuvelle got wiped as did Hyrm because of the inter-House powerplays. She might have been a commoner with a crest it does happen or someone of a lower class married in so Martriz had a crest. However keep in mind that with the fall of House Martriz she would have lost all power, status, and standing, she also could have been pressured by the remainder of House Martriz. In the end we don't know. Nobles certainly do scout for crest bearing commoners, Mercedes was pressured and harassed into such a marriage with the marriage leveraged by a donation to the church her family had lived in for many years.

summer 2019 anime sum-up

lmao i realized i never did this and posted the fall season b4 this.... oops

kimetsu no yaiba: tbh started out kinda meh. and now it’s turned into one of the new big shounens. i was not expecting that. nearing the end got rly good and i was rly looking forward to more episodes! tanjiro gets cooler and cooler! animation is rly nice (thanks ufotable) and the way tanjiro’s water is animated. like. aesthetic asf. it’s so good. i love black-haired emo dude and zenitsu (my spirit animal) and ofc nezuko she is adorable im c r y. side note: the hashira? i think they’re called? some of the ugliest fkn characters i’ve seen in ages like flame boy? stone boy? i HATE them. and the gem dude too like man get a new tattoo artist on god.... he needs it.,,,,,,and inosuke is so pretty it’s unfair

dr stone: ok man dr stone rly went off. tbh. i’ve always been a whore for chemistry since reading the flavia de luce series (btw, i want more books of) and watching this just tickles my noodle brain in a good way... who needs prozac when i get a shitton of serotonin from watching senku dick around....  (btw what is going on with what’s his face and the girl. yuzuriha????? i can’t remember. i love senku don’t get me wrong but i need their perspective too... bc i hate lion dude... so much.... dick....) again i will repeat that i am a whore for chemistry so i get oFF on this. backgrounds are amazing/ animation so nice n clean (most o the time lmao). i thought i would hate the black n white haired trickster boi and ms yellow ponytail and suika but no! dr stone is such a good show that they are now great, loveable characters. also i am senku and chrome’s whore so jfc. man, i love the explanations of all the chemistry shabang, but some things i think would be better if explained! like senku doing physical labour at the beginning- ex. making all those pots and building that shit by hisself. i know he weak af. yes he smart but like. construction? difficult. pottery? even for me the artist . difficult. and that shed of his was filled to the brim. HOW. anyways, i love this so much i am crying constantly

danmachi 2: wtf yo. haruhime is so pretty but not a fan of her personality! bell still cute af and still don’t rly like aiz! animation good as always, and my god i shit myself whenever the argonaut theme starts up bc that is ? one of the best pieces of non-sawano hiroyuki pieces i’ve ever heard? addicted to it. and the opening! love the dynamics, the brief ‘rain’ scenes like when mikoto slashes the raindrops and just her motion basically? as an animator that is what i aspire to accomplish because i just love that. tiny little scene. 

arifureta: this would have been so much better had they dragged out mc’s op-ifying process! made him suffer more! i explained this briefly in my ‘first thoughts’ post for this season, but story-wise and pacing-wise his power-up could have been so much more deserved and gratifying. think shield hero- loser suffers, gets angry, slowly builds up power in an epic payoff! would have been so epic too. and also if they’d made his gained powers less.... crazy nerfed. again: HE SHOULD HAVE SUFFERED MORE AND THIS WOULD HAVE MADE A BETTER SHOW. harem thoughts: yue- meh. sucky char honestly. shea- my fav girl, she is a great character don’t judge- sexy and love her personality and love her character design and love how much fanservice she gets lol. panty flash ftw. dragon girl- discount darkness honestly , tho nice design. and mermaid girl- yuck, annoying,  DO NOT like the ‘papa’ trope! (ahem sao.) it’s gross. also just fuck mc’s classmates honestly- paladin dude sucks ass, healer girl OOF that last episode ruined her, samurai girl is ok i guess. hate ai-sensei too like shut UPP annoying ass HOEEEEE (postscript: opening=very epic too)

kanata no astra: plot twist? check. trillion well-done plot twists? check. this was done very well. i am so happy. all those plot twists and turns would usually suck in any regular anime- but this was written with GODLIKE ability. thank you, lerche. legit, this was such an enjoyable ride, i eagerly awaited each new ep! typically i hate space-related stuff but like! survival stuff gets my goat.... like this was good- (tho maybe more technical-stuff in the survival theme would make it so cooler) what shocked me the most: (spoilers alert) didn’t end up hating quitterie or funi. (tho the puppet made me want to strangle smth) luca’s gender had rly confused me but i’d decided on him being a boy- so basically that reveal left me like WHOA. i died. did luca rly have to show emo boy their tity tho... kanata losing his arm gave me the yeeeks, charce being the traitor was made sO WELL into a surprise even tho i’d kinda already suspected him<- like that was just fucking amazing writing there. gj. and ares the princess! ok man! shocked! AND also the whole clone thing, just fucked me right up. up the ass. like there are probably more plot twist layers in this than a fkn ogre has.... anyway shrek aside, yun?’s character arc was very pleasing, i think that was done very well! and the ending made me UwU like BRO? goals tbh. yeah this is a hidden gem and is just so good, so well-written overall. 

cop craft: didn’t have high expectations. i am now,,, quite,,, shocked &,,, blown away. sweetheart this is a good fucking show. so why @ livechart.me DOES IT HAVE 7.40 STARS WHEN FKN ARIFURETA HAS 7.72. can someone explain this to me? i’m outraged. LIVID.  matoba and tilarna were amazing characters btw! loved their dynamic! briefly i thought it might get romantic! nope, it didn’t, so it’s all good. actions scenes were epic, tilarna’s design and outfits were so much nicer than i thought they’d be like. she is so cute. and the op- man, if that is not such a bopper vibe then idk what is. i could watch it forever. it deserves so much more than what it’s got rn.

naka no hito genome: (serious question: is this considered some sort of isekai?) genome gave me btooom vibes honestly but like- this is SO much better than btooom and most game/trap/ kinda shows. fkn BOP of an op, especially the sequence at the end with short clips of each character in action (nutt). paka-san was a good boy and he deserves irl merch. i fell in LOve with all the characters (bubble boy= hot, akatsuki= ok meh actually kinda boring, karin= hot and i want her to punch me, ruromori= beautiful 12/10 would let her stalk me, sleepy eyes boy= baby + dazai vibes and hot af, twin boy= also hot, onigasaki= hot and love him so much, and loli girl= her light grenades got annoying but nice char design) anyways yeah more of this would be epic. i wanna see sakura and her twin reunite, and how they get out basically! also animation quality was very good which is surprising considering it’s a silver link anime.

kono yo no hate de koi wo utau shoujo yu-no: i include the whole title bc this is a good anime. (also livechart.me why 7.27 stars i will fuck you up) only meh part of this is the return to earth from dela granto bc that was like a culture shock and honestly at that point i’d forgotten a lot about what had happened on earth and didn’t care as much. btw, f ayumi and f the other brown-haired oneesan. mio and kanna ftw. obvs i didn’t understand the sayless x takuya thing like dumbass horny teenager . why u gotta creampie the worst girl. u have mio. bruh. (tho mio x ‘oyabi!’ boy is a great ship) also, takuya’s mom? keiko-san? idk if you’ve noticed but that’s literally my name so yeah just glad to finally have some keiko representation. altogether goodass anime. the time travel/ rezero esque reset thing almost got me but this was done well. so no problems. both ops very good. first song was bae, second also bae (just realized it’s by konomi suzuki, one of my waifu idols, so yea nice) and ed2 also so pretty! also yu-no’s design was rly pretty, the outfit colours, and her pigtails rly suited her :)

granbelm: sorry this is the last one lol this was a long ass post! other than the fact i dont rly like mecha this was good.... action, CHARACTER designs aesthetic asf, honestly rly pretty ok. i liked the cast, very diverse and more depth than most shows of this ilk. op was nicely choreographed- especially the part where the girls’ faces are contorted by their gems, showing their magical girl side. nicely done. mangetsu didn’t end up being that bad a char, and honestly? suigetsu is best girl and deserved better. and the ending too- like, bro, that made me kinda sad. some off points: anna’s mom was a little unrealistic as a mom like woman- please learn to control your child, and, white-haired girl’s sister should have played a bigger part, based on how her parts in the opening were emphasized! (quick note- blue girl, love her, great bad guy, when she dumped anna made me so happy honestly, she is beautiful, and i couldn’t actually decide who i wanted to win between her and suigetsu....)

ya the pacing is tricky because i think if like, sara & ryan (idk if miguel read the books) treated f&b as well as the main series with a bit more respect, instead of (imo) clearly going in with the idea they were going to Fix Canon rather than Elaborate On Canon, they would have approached season one’s pacing waaaaay different, probably starting the story much earlier or having a more extended flashback. so i think the combination of them feeling like “i can fix this mess” and hbo very obviously being on their ASS about doing this as quickly as possible (TEN EPISODES IS CRAZY) it was really lethal for the pacing of the show. it’s definitely not solely their fault or even predominantly their fault - when you have like 10 hours to work with, there’s just only so much you can do 😭��

YEAH i do think from some of what ryan has said that they’re going to add nettles in (could be copium!) but it’s very obvious they originally intended to cut her and it’s CRAZY. BONKERS. HOW DO U MISS THE POINT LIKE THIS.

VERY good point re: weight, that’s another criticism i’ve pushed back on - not only is the weight of rhaenyra used to make her seem evil, but the art itself is pretty inconsistent with depicting her. sometimes she’s skinny, sometimes she’s fat, it varies a LOT so the focus on emma d’arcy being skinny always pissed me off. and same for aegon - again, similar to like, aegon iv, the weight is used to show his unworthiness. i get wanting to drift apart from that. esp bc, as i’ve pointed out, book aegon is aesthetically very similar to robert, and i can understand wanting to give him an aesthetic makeover while keeping the underlying issues aegon has. HELAENA however, doesn’t have her weight commented on weirdly - it’s just like, a thing she seemed to inherit from viserys, that she’s just a lil plump (i believe that’s the word they use - plump and pleasant) and she’s like that for most of her life, so i can definitely see the argument there for sure! esp bc like you say, it’s a very good comparison to alys; just this hollywood thing of cutting fat characters, aging down women but letting men age visibly, and it’s very obnoxious to be a ~feminist show and not meet this very low bar of having size and age diversity amongst your female cast!

AND THE WRITERS ROOM. i think an outlander comparison is good - there’s some points where they do good and some points where you can tell who Isn’t in that room. interestingly enough, both shows take a “far east” type character that is horrifically stereotyped and, due to imo having an asian writer in that room, really expand upon them in meaningful ways (yi tien cho for outlander & mysaria). it’s just crazy to have such a clear example of what Having Diversity In The Room Can Help & then like…..not include any idk dark skinned black writers? trans writers? would having a consultant for north african characters help with dorne? idk but it’s clear they didn’t think about that and it’s a shame bc sometimes it’s like ryan….what ARE you cookin here

like some of the criticism i see……sometimes it’s just naked bigotry (the girls face a LOT of this in particular), but also oftentimes it’s just people like. complaining about nothing. “why doesn’t baela hate jacaerys” why would she. that’s such a stupid bad faith critique. “the dragon fight was bad” according to whOMST???? “they betrayed the entire concept of the dance by making rhaenicent a thing/making rhaenyra complex/trying to give alicent more to do” like i’m TIRED of it, most deeply tired of this “softening MY side is fine the other side should be ontologically evil though” i’m sorry that they’re trying to write a GOOD story and not getting on a soap box like everyone clearly wants them to but this constant “they hate my side” makes me feel like no one in this fandom actually passed english class in high school & just cheated off the smart kid!!!!

i can elaborate if anyone wants, i’m not joking when i say i will be stuck in this car for like four hours 😭 why is urban sprawl so bad (it’s white flight i know this, not the point).

PROBLEMS

uneven as FUCK pacing - maybe there’s no getting around this but i do think this ties back to the idea that they do not care about the source material the way they should. so they just like, rush past the parts they clearly don’t think are interesting to get to what they DO like, because they only have 10 (and EIGHT) episodes to do it in. that’s not enough time!!!! 13 episodes MINIMUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SLOW IT DOWN LET IT SIMMER

in season 1, i think the younger generation suffer from this writing choice the most, but so did the strongs & the velaryons most acutely. i also think older rhaenyra is often too busy with Plot to have good Character Moments while older alicent gets a much more even hand. viserys dominates screentime, & we all know i want to top that old man but now he’s dead and the characters that are alive need so much more work.

in season 2, i think the velaryons once again suffer from this, and around idk rooks rest the greens very suddenly drop off. rhaenyra becomes much more balanced and alicent spends too much time being sadly silent instead of doing serious character work w other characters + they completely cut off aliotto & alilarys (and arguably aligon) for That Other One and i just don’t get why u would focus on the worst ship out of those three.

criston should have spent more time w aemond & gwayne should have been daeron. daemon gets too much fuckijg focus in harrenhal and only half of it is interesting. alys & simon you’ve done nothing wrong ever in your lives and i love you.

which tbc i don’t think they have SIDES they love i think there are EVENTS they find interesting & they prioritize getting to those events quickly (bc they don’t have enough episodes).

Alicent should have been older than Rhaenyra. you can make her a child bride, you can make her friends with Rhaenyra, you can make her homoerotic relationship with Rhaenyra the beating heart of your show and still have her be several years older than Rhaenyra, if you’re not a fucking coward.

Tullys - if i thought they did this because they felt it was too many characters to juggle, i’d get it. but you know damn well they did it bc they don’t think the muppet names fit their serious business aesthetic and they are fake fans for that shit.

The Lads - where is Black Aly. Where is Benjicot. Where is Sabitha. Where is Red Robb Rivers. what the fuck. why do the riverlands always get the shaft even when they’re technically getting focus.

the north - i’m sorry did we find it enjoyable when bran disappeared for a season. did u know that this doesn’t have to feel like nostalgia bait if you don’t TREAT IT like nostalgia bait??

nettles - cutting nettles defeats like, at least 33% of the reason you even adapt the dance. even if they backtrack, it is a mind boggling decision to attempt to do the dance without nettles. if u wanted to cut a dragonseed, i’m sorry, i kno i got ulfhusbands following me but cut one of those dudes. “oh but what about their dragon” vermithor & silverwing are the two most boring dragons and you can quote me.

Velaryons - where do i even begin. it’s bad to racebend a family and then completely rework their characters so they’re less prevalent. idk how many times this has to be said, but idc if u think rhaenicent is the better ship, there was no reason to write laena the way they did. what was the point of having laenor live if they were just gonna kill him offscreen. what did THEY think they were cookin with vaemond huh. why do rhaenys & jacaerys never fucking interact on their own. can we get corlys talking to any of his grandkids except that one time with luke. pls.

the strongs - every day matthew needlham comes onto set and slays and they go “you know what. let’s have daemon do carpentry instead.” harwin’s entire character was either cut or implied. i like the alys stuff but hollywood has a problem with refusing to cast milfs and i won’t let it stand bc why can we have paddy AND rhys the dilfs but not alys. why is daemon played by a 40 year old but alys can’t be??

rhaenyra’s hair - it’s TWO BRAIDS do NOT piss me the fuck OFF. have the nerve to be RISKY instead of redoing dany’s fifty little braid big braid thing!!!

honestly so many of the character troubles can be traced to “needs more time” - the kids in the back half of s1, corlys, rhaenyra in the back half of s1, the strongs, the riverlands, the north.

OR “i need u to acknowledge your limitations as writers” - alicent, the velaryons, the twins, some of the gender stuff, imo this comes from not having a diverse enough writers room & not having anyone writing that’s darker than a paper bag Does affect this.

listen. does brienne become plot relevant right away? no, she’s just kinda following catelyn around after some weird shit happened to her. but we still get to MEET her and CARE about her before stuff gets crazy. oberyn is introduced so we have an emotional tie to dorne in affc. hugh & ulf & the hull boys felt a bit randomly added but imo this is bc they narrowed the scope so much w everyone else.

the concept of black velaryons/dragon twins. i literally did that graphic and it would be so easy to have corlys explain this in his monologue to daemon but i actually think that In This Day And Age, it’s fine to look at a vey white source and go “now where can i maybe race or gender swap some stuff to add to the narrative” pls see iwtv & anne with an e for examples. what they did was maybe perplexing (well no it’s not, it’s a common trope) but still workable and tbh Corlys as a Black man is simply canon to me, eat shit.

“oh they softened this character i hate but they wrote the characters i love badly” it’s bc the writing is incredibly uneven across the board i need everyone to get over themselves. i’m a rhaenyra apologist and even then, they just clearly miss the mark in a few spots bc this series is sloppily written bc it’s on a time crunch. the vision they were going for in their softening of every single character makes sense & are often changes they made to deal with a source material that is VAGUE and PURPOSEFULLY CONFUSING. it’s fine.

the abigail thorne cameo. should tyland & her have done jack shit for like a third of the runtime? no. but like, just casting a funny lady in this part is fine?

i’m sorry i think the hairstyles can be whack but the wigs are great?? why is everyone always shittalking the wigs?? well okay the aegon s2 & jacaerys s1 wigs were p bad but i don’t think any of the rest of them are particularly egregious. everyone shits on the daemon wigs specifically but i think he looks very good??!

the cgi is good i think some of u are too picky

Alicent - listen. obviously i think some of the complaints about her writing has merit. but some of the shit i see is just the the stupidest shit. making alicent a child bride was a good choice, bc we don’t see aemma’s child brideness. also, she’s 17 when they start fucking around, viserys is not like Meaningfully better in the books about her. making alicent a young mom IS the correct choice! keeping alicent as a main character in s2 IS the correct choice. “this is a story about the fight between rhaenyra & aegon” your brain is the size of a pea.

Visaemon is the correct choice (imo they should have leaned in slightly harder to the Viserys/Rhaenyra angle to really bring it home, but everything they did regarding the characterization of this triangle is good.)

and for that matter, bringing aegon, helaena, and aemond closer in age to jacaerys, lucerys, and the twins is also the correct choice. the helaena visions, aegon sadboy, jacaerys classism allegations, baela not gaf abt the bastard allegations, these were all good choices. leo hurt! aemond save me, same me leo hurt! aemond.

helaena and viserys being dreamers is genuinely inspired

criston being dornish is also a good move, all the people who complain about this are just like. so clearly racist aksjdjd and i think they do a good job with Criston As The Lone Dornishman (though they fail a LOT with What Does Being Dornish Mean To Criston but again, this goes back to the writer’s room)

the prophecy stuff is GOOD i’m stealing from kingcunny here but if u don’t like the idea of rhaenyra getting fixated on the same prophetic magic that drove her father to murder her mother, and driving her son away, then maybe targaryen madness isn’t for you!! “well i don’t like the targaryens” i also wish they’d do a show about literally anyone else & i think these overhyped lizard fuckers are obnoxious but like, the main series is FULL of prophecies, you can’t SPIT without landing on another prophecy, wanting LESS MAGIC in the MAGIC SHOW is exactly why we have the dumpster fire that is the main show. be serious!!!!!

2. First game you played?

Uh…this goes so far back. Let me think lol. On PC, probably the first game I played (aside from educational games at school like Number Munchers or whatever the fuck) was Where in the World is Carmen San Diego? I still remember that game. It was like a puzzle game where you would investigate clues and follow leads and interview suspects and just very fun.

The first game I ever played on console would have been on the Super Nintendo. Probably The Lion King.

18. Worst game you’ve played?

I’ve never finished a game I didn’t like. I remember I started this one game that some GameStop dude recommended my husband get for me based on the fact that I liked Skyrim. It was called Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. It felt a little like a shitty Dragon Age knock-off. I tried to like it but ultimately the gameplay sucked and the world was too much generic fantasy bullshit for me.

19. Hardest game you’ve ever played?

I found God of War to be really hard in ways that turned me off to it entirely. Idk the gameplay eluded me. I couldn’t get through the first major boss fight and gave the controller to my husband, which is rare. I like being challenged in games but I HATE the grind where you’re expected to die a million times as a part of the learning curve. Or, for some games this works (like I died a LOT in the beginning of The Last of Us) and for others, it just doesn’t. There’s a whole host of factors. Like, in TLoU, Joel is often expected to be stealthy, so dying a lot was more like figuring out a puzzle in the world–how to approach the fight, how to plan and execute it successfully, which is immersive. I don’t like games where you need to just get and then memorize the timing right in terms of when to land blows, block, etc. This is why I like watching my husband play the Dark Souls games, but I can’t play them myself. To me, it’s masochism lol. 

I like there to be many approaches to winning fights, like stealth and trap-making. I hate games where your only real choice is just to agro everyone. I am sure God of War gets more nuanced as the little boy becomes more useful but I was never gonna make it that far lol. My favorite game in terms of diversity of gameplay is probably Horizon: Zero Dawn, and also Rise of the Tomb Raider, which allows you to alternate between being just an all-out explosives expert pyromaniac and then just a silent infiltrator armed with nothing but poison arrows and smoke grenades. I don’t like games that center too much on combat in any way, particularly if the combat is all agro or repetitive. I like games like RDR2 and Skyrim where you can roam a loonnnng time before running into someone that wants to kill you. Like, I need downtime lol. I want to look around and explore and make discoveries in the setting.

just wrote a ridiculously long post musing on the influence of media on my roleplaying decisions and then realized it was a fuckin novel and now i’m just gonna... delete it all and start over

basically, like. There’s a noticeable trend in roleplaying circles for most folks to play mostly if not entirely dudes - not all obviously, but a significant enough chunk to make that statement. I remember there being a thread on the forums I frequent where someone asked about it and asked for the reasoning behind people choosing to play one gender over the other, and the vast majority response from roleplayers of any gender was playing guys for one reason or another, ranging from ‘idk I just prefer them’ to ‘i never really thought of women as being able to be cool or flawed or interesting’. Which makes sense, considering we live in a society where so so so so so many female characters in popular media are written as either Nagging Only Sane People There To Bring The Wacky Guys Back Down, or Bland Pretty Things with the personality of a turnip.

and like. i’m wondering why I ended up going the completely opposite direction, where 80% of my characters are women, and it wasn’t a recent development that grew with my feminism, either - i’ve preferred making lady characters for as long as i’ve been able to pick up a pencil, and what dudes I make tend to lean towards being effeminate, emotionally open, and gentle. (And when they’re not, they tend to be pretty explicitly gay/bi/pan. A couple of my most masculine characters are the ones who are in ride-or-die relationships with my best friend’s dude characters.)

Basically the tl;dr of the thoughts came out to:

A: A HUGE chunk of the media I was taking in before even the age of 10 featured women as protagonists without ever presenting it as a Woman Story About Being Womanly, at least as far as I remember. Gender was just treated as a neutral playing field, never mentioned but with equal distribution throughout the stories, and I partook in a lot of stuff that showed the story from a woman’s perspective. A lot of this media I was introduced to by my sister, who, as long as I can remember, has been GNC and interested in GNC things. I ALSO partook in kinda fringe stuff like small-time webcomics that had lady protagonists who acted straight up goofy and were never remotely sexualized, and at least one of those things was MASSIVELY formative for me, to the point where the first comic I ever drew at the age of 8 was basically just like... A blatant ripoff of that comic. Like. That comic was the reason I got into my lifelong passion of comics.

B: By some fucking miracle, while gender did have an influence on my upbringing, it wasn’t... Super significant. Gender roles were not heaped heavily upon me by my parents (which is kinda shocking, considering they’re like, die hard conservative christians), and when they did Heap it, it was easy enough to just kinda... Ignore it.* I was never chided for doing things that weren’t Stereotypically Feminine: wearing clothes “for boys”, having a majority of friends who were boys, doing activities that one would think of in a gendered sense as ‘boy stuff’, actively rejecting the societal expectation to get married and have kids, etc. 

Honestly, I think a lot of this was basically just dumb luck, though: I was still feminine enough that my mom wasn’t alarmed when I started wearing clothes intended for boys. My adamant refusal of marriage/children was and IS STILL responded to with a smile and a joke and obviously thinking i’ll change my mind one day. I’ve always kept my hair VERY short, and was even encouraged to by my mom, but the styles I wear are still some degree of feminine - pixie cuts and shit - and the reason she’s encouraging is because SHE wore her hair short growing up and just thinks it’s cute. By the time I started branching into mohawks and undercuts, my mom was getting to a point where she was more concerned with having a good relationship with her kids and being positive no matter what than whether or not I didn’t look straight. (I can always tell that she doesn’t particularly like it, but is trying to be supportive when I show up with a ‘weird’ haircut.)

(my dad, on the other hand, made a stink when I wanted my first undercut, told me i’d ‘look like a d***’ and would ‘never get a boyfriend’. but he was kinda distant anyways due to his job and didn’t really have a lot of involvement or say over my choices growing up.) my point is, though, that gender may not have been entirely a neutral playing field growing up, but I was never taught/it never sunk in for me that women shouldn’t be rowdy or ‘boyish’ or loud or strive for greater things, and I wasn’t punished or discouraged for being that way myself. The combination of these two things basically meant that I was seeing women who got to act just like the Cool Boy Characters out there on the regular, didn’t really make a big deal about gender/gendered things, and the tendency for women to be bland or unlikeable in a lot of media just kinda went over my head.

...plus i’m sure there was some Big Gay buried in there somewhere where I’ve just always preferred the look of women so if I wanted to rip off some Funny Likeable Boy character from a tv show i’d do it n i’d make them a lady. They’re more interesting to look at and more fun to draw! what do you want from me

Also, looking back on the first point: I wonder if growing up with media like that is why I VASTLY prefer stories that just HAVE diversity that isn’t really the focus, versus Queer Stories or Nonbinary Stories or Women Stories or Mentally Ill Stories or so on and so forth. While I want to see someone like me out there fighting dragons n shit, while i’m like ‘holy shit this character is bi?? she’s MINE NOW’ in a story that’s mostly about trying to survive political intrigue and navigating a cutthroat court, I just feel Tired when there’s a story that’s clearly about navigating anxiety or dealing with sexism on the daily or somesuch. I get they’re meant to be relatable, but i’m like... I live that shit every day, I don’t want an extra dose of it here, too. I’d rather just see people like me getting to be the cool heroes we liked reading about growing up. I want my mental issues and my queerness and my gender, I just want DIVERSITY to be just as default as the Default Straight White Man Protagonist, to just be mundane, not a beacon of being Different with stories that cater to how Different I am, constantly reminding me that I am Different and that this story isn’t widely relatable and caters to a certain audience of Different People. There’s a fine line between ‘we’re all different and we need to understand there’s nothing wrong with that’, and ‘this makes me feel more distant and isolated from other groups than ever before’.

but that’s just my personal taste. Anyways.

(*except for like... this had a lot of different factors, but in my young to mid teens, I very much felt like i’d never land a boyfriend and that no guy could ever actually find me attractive. Some of this was due to an abusive friend who was isolating me while simultaneously reminding me about how important it was to be desirable to men; some of it was due to how much subtle anxiety my mom projected on me about behaviors I should upkeep so I would look desirable to men. ‘don’t put the elbows on the table so that you look proper when you’re out on a date!’ sorta crap. Some of it was due to being unaware of how FUCKEN BI I was (REAL BI, now that I look back on it) and brought up in a homophobic setting so it never occurred to me that there was more than just dudes. That anxiety was the closest I ever really came to feeling like I was failing at femininity, though.)

My Asexual Story

Just wanted to share my story about being Asexual because i’ve never actually told anyone before and i don’t have anyone in person to tell, plus i need to get this off my chest because it’s something i’ve been keeping to myself, so don’t feel as if you have to read, i’m just having a moment here.

So basically around the age of 14/15 i realised i didn’t have sexual attractions towards people (Boys, girls or anyone in between) but at this point i didn’t know about the term ‘asexual’ and i especially didn’t realise that other people experienced this kinda thing, so i went a bit crazy thinking that i’d never find anyone and that i only had a couple months left to get in a relationship with someone and that even if i did get into a relationship i would only be with them for a short time coz, according to me, after the age of 16 people would just want sex in a relationship and there would be no hope for a weirdo like me who wasn't into that. I don’t know why i thought this but i was 15 and a mess of a human being. I do however recall the main source of why i thought this was the case was because prom was coming up (I’m British so we leave secondary school at 16 and have a prom) and in a lot of films thats the kinda time people do the nasty, on top of this i guess i just got it in my head that like what else is gunna happen between a girl and guy after a big fancy party, once again i was 15 and out of my mind and i now know this isn't necessarily the case. So during this time i went through all sorts of scenarios, at first i thought i was lesbian because i wasn't attracted to guys so i must have been attracted to girls, right? But no, that thought process lasted like a day and i went back to thinking i was just crazy and would die alone with my 50 cats, i also wondered that maybe i was ‘normal’ and i did have these sexual feelings and maybe didn’t realise them but after talking to some people i realised this was also not the case as just the way they described certain feelings weren't anything i'd ever felt and were something i honestly never wanted to experience.

Then around the time i turned 16 (March - so prom was still relatively far away but all the plans had been made and people had dates and stuff) i some how decided to look up the LGBT+ community and all the different types of sexualities and genders, i don’t 100% remember why, i think i was kinda looking for other sexualities that i might have been coz at the time i only knew to be hetrosexual, homosexual or bisexual so maybe i was looking for the right label as i knew there were other 'types' of orientation out there. I came across this list of a huge range of sexualities, orientations, genders ect. and seeing as Asexual begins with ‘A’ it was at the top of the list, the description for each definition was only brief and you could click to get more info, but the description for the first sexuality was something like ‘Someone who doesn’t experience sexual attraction’ (I know this is very brief and not 100% correct for everyone but like i said u could get more info and all the mini definitions were like 10 words long). So 16 year old me saw, by pure chance and thanks to the spelling of this word, this definition that matched me. I cannot explain the feeling that went through me in that exact moment, shock, excitement, disbelief. All i know is that i practically did a double take and i clicked on that link faster than i have clicked on anything before in my entire life and for the next 2-3 hours i read that page over and over to make sure i understood it all right, i read page after page on all different websites to make sure i was understanding it right and by the end of it i finally felt like by me just identifying with this label that i was somehow more okay, I know some people don’t like giving themselves labels as it can make them feel restricted (or for any other reasons - idk it’s an individual thing i guess), but for me personally that label made me feel like i wasn’t alone and that i wasn’t crazy for feeling the way i did and thats what i needed, i needed an explanation and thats what this one word did, it didn’t make me feel validated or give my life meaning it just gave me an reasonable explanation and the knowledge that i wasn’t alone. I never told anyone about this whole thing as i don’t think i was 100% convinced and i carried on researching asexuality to make sure i did have it all right because i didn’t want to say i was this sexuality and for someone to be like ‘um actually you’re *this*, not asexual’. I also made the decision not to go to prom, my friendship group were all going together and they'd asked me to go but the whole thing just wasn't me, due to me having anxiety and hating the idea of human contact (Which to my understanding is being touch repulsed? A new term i've recent heard some people use in the asexual/aromantic community) a big crowded room full of people i didn't like was my worst nightmare, plus i think that i still had the taught process of prom = sex at some point during the night.  

When i was 17 i ‘came out’ to someone for the first time in person. At the start she really didn’t understand it which made me feel kinda down but she listened, she didn’t tell me i was crazy or leave, she asked questions and let me explain what it all meant and how i felt.

Im now 18 and i've 'come out' to a bunch of people, pretty much everyone has had a good response but i will occasionally get the 'Oh here we go, other special snowflake' eyeroll of someone when i talk about it but i just ignore it, i can't change the way they think and if they're so close minded that they can't accept that someone thinks or feels differently to the way they do they're not worth my time and they're not going to get very far in life seeing as the world is so diverse and they're suck in the middle ages.

I have ups and downs with my sexuality all the time, when i first figured out there was something ‘different’ about me i hated it coz i thought it was some unnatural thing. But i never denied that it existed, i never tried to like the idea of sex or pretend to be something i wasn’t, i always accepted that whatever was happening wasn’t something i could change, but that didn’t mean i was okay with it. Especially around 17 i would constantly go through lows of wishing i wasn’t ‘like this’ and that because of ‘it’ i would never be able to live a ‘normal’ life. I’m someone who’s never been in a relationship before and i’m so curious about what it would like to be in one (But due to me having social anxiety and i guess me as a person i’ve never even been asked out properly before). I still fear the whole ‘dying alone with cats’ kinda thing and i do want to be in a relationship and i know not having a sexual drive will limit the amount of partners i’ll be able to find but at the end of the day what can i do about it? i can’t change myself to be some hetrosexual barbie doll, i can only be myself. So i guess as a nice message to anyone out there who is struggling with any identity issues just google it man, honestly just look up whatever it is and you might find something like i did, i didn’t have to go on any hike up a mountain and kill a mystical dragon to understand what i was going through i just had to type into google ‘List of sexualities’ and wham! i’m now a slightly smaller mess of a human being who can successfully answer the question of ‘What is your sexual orientation?’

My blog is newish, I am just coming back to tumblr after year long break...I feel like people don’t know me and I kinda came in the fandom at an... odd time... I needed to absorb the whole situation before coming out and saying something. if I was even going to say something. In Fact I have written like 4 different drafts of this before settling on this one....because I would rather be true to me as person and risk losing an audience or whatever. Because Drama is like shipping shit... I perhaps misguidedly called it that at first, once I really started to digest everything and the SCOPE...good god the SCOPE of this in the fandom... I realized it’s racism... and that just makes me get all twisted in the stomach...like RACISM is hella fucking bad. I feel bad for failing to see this was racism sooner.... I have no excuse it was my own privilege on that matter that made me perceive it just as “passing drama” in my mind when it really something far worse and goes far deeper and I am sorry for it. I am not a perfect person, I am trying always to better myself but still fucking white privilege does blind me at times.

While I have nothing to add to the discussion of race in the fandom, because as white woman, I have no place speaking for the people of color in this fandom. All I can do it try to support you. Because your voices mater in fandom, no matter if it’s DA or whatever, they really do matter. I have spent a good deal of time sitting reading several blogs ran by POC in this fandom and have been seeing how long this has been going on... it made me so mad. I had decided to be apart of DA fandom because from the outside looking in... on the surface I saw diversity and rather progressive open minded fanbase... while there is so much of that... there is some horrible things going on below the surface. I didn’t know... but ignorance is not an excuse... 

I have seen racism every day of my life... my dad was a racist fuck... my stepdad was black... can you imagine the things that I grew up hearing. The things I have been working most of my adult life to unlearn and I still am trying to make myself better, so I can raise my kid better.  It’s not something I am perfect at but I am aware enough to keep trying to educate myself, because right now that’s all I can do... I can’t change the past, but I sure as shit am not going to make excuses for it.

While, yes most of... okay almost all my OC’s off note will be white... that’s because I don’t feel it’s my place as white woman to have brown oc’s. To me... I always felt it is kinda like doing idk digital blackface if you are white and make an OC of color? Is that the term? I read something about “Brown Paper Dolls” as well in the last few days. I don’t want to be using the wrong thing... but whatever it’s call at it’s core it just felt so wrong for me to do. I don’t think anything I have to give a character would be added to by her being brown... the only thing that could happen is I could fall into the trap of a dangerous racist trope in a fanfic... which is something that scares me to death. So why risk it? Why risk adding to the hurt? Especially in dragon age where there is wide variety of canon characters of color... I mean all the way back to DAO? 

SO yes... my OC’s will be white but I don’t want this blog to start lacking color... so if you are a artist.. writer... meta writer...whatever of color in the DA fandom let me know in a comment or whatever...please.
