Everything was as usual. So why were you trembling?

You were standing in front of Levi's office, hand raised to knock, but for some reason, it refused to move. Instead of closing the distance between you and the door, like you wanted it to, your hand was shaking like a leaf caught in a storm. A very wet storm, since your palm was also sweating like crazy.
This had never happened to you before.
It was teatime, and normally you couldn't wait to get inside to enjoy some of that leafy goodness together. Normally.
But after yesterday, things were anything but normal.
A lot of things had happened. You'd dislocated your shoulder in a near-death experience with a Titan – the wooden training dummy type, but still – and had to be rescued by Levi, squashing your dignity even further. You'd then gotten yourself into a serious discussion with him over your participation in the next expedition. But none of that even came close to the realization that had hit you that evening: the small fact that you were in love with Levi Ackerman.
Needless to say, things were different now.
Like your heart thudding in your ears louder than a Titan's footsteps, or your arm no longer responding to your brain's commands. (There were no excuses. It wasn't even the one you'd dislocated.)
You took a deep breath. You could do this, like you had a million times before. It was just teatime. You loved teatime.
"For tea," you said, squaring your shoulders. Once again, you raised your fist into the air, moving it toward the door with all the momentum your newfound courage had bestowed upon it, and–
The door swung open.
Levi stood there, looking thoroughly unimpressed as your fist stopped just short of his face.
"The tea's getting cold," he said dryly. You could feel his breath on your hand as it awkwardly hovered there, inches away from his mouth.
You cleared your throat and quickly dropped your hand. But now you didn't know what to do with it. It just dangled at your side, suddenly feeling more like an alien appendage than a body part. You fidgeted with your sling, trying to look casual, though everything about you screamed not casual at all.
"Um," you croaked. Your mouth was dry as parchment. A currently empty parchment, for words were eluding you. It didn't help that Levi kept looking at you with that cool gaze of his, his expression as flat as ever, betraying nothing.
"I..." You started again. You swallowed. "Sorry for being late. I was busy writing the report about yesterday, and kind of lost track of time, and–"
"It's fine," Levi said dismissively. "Come in."
You nodded, trudging after him into his office, your feet heavy.
You sat down across from him at your usual spot and watched him fill up your cup with his usual smooth precision. Yes – everything was as usual. And yet. The silence between you felt heavy, somehow, like it was weighed down by all the unsaid words piling up inside of you. It was a strange, unfamiliar feeling. Before yesterday, you'd always been able to say what was on your mind; now it felt like something was holding you back.
It was probably the irrational fear that, no matter what you tried to say, the words slipping out of your mouth would be I'm in love with you instead. A confession you definitely weren't ready to make. Not until you knew how he felt about you – which was probably going to be never. Unless you asked him. Should you ask him?
You looked up nervously, only to find Levi staring at you, his brows slightly raised as he studied you. Was it because you were acting weird? Were you acting weird? You shifted awkwardly in your seat.
He gave a slight nod in the direction of the teacup still sitting on the table in front of you, untouched. "You don't want your tea?"
"Oh." You felt your face heat up. "Of course."
You reached for the cup with trembling fingers, causing it to rattle against the saucer in a staccato of tiny clickety-clinks. The shaking made the tea slosh around precariously.
You tried to steady it, but with only one hand, it was impossible – some tea spilled over the edge and onto the table. You winced. You knew how much he valued cleanliness. "I'm so sorry."
Levi calmly pulled a white handkerchief from his pocket and wiped up the mess, then shot you a look. "You okay?"
"Me?" You asked, still flustered. "Oh. Yeah. I'm okay. Totally."
You took a sip of what remained of your tea and promptly choked on it, making you cough violently.
"Totally fine, clearly," Levi deadpanned.
"Couldn't be… better," you wheezed, trying to catch your breath.
For some reason, Levi didn't look too convinced.
You avoided his scrutinizing gaze, suddenly very invested in ridding your sling from every last piece of lint, both real and imaginary.
Had teatime always been this long? You glanced at the clock on the wall. It hadn't even been ten minutes. You bit your lip, the silence growing more unbearable with every passing second. You should say something – anything – to get him talking, but what?
"Do–" you started, nearly choking on the words. "Do you like cats?"
"Yes," Levi replied, giving you absolutely nothing to work with.
"Cool," you said lamely.
Argh! The tension made you want to tear out all your hair.
You tried again. "So… What do you like about them?"
A pause. "They're clean, and quite independent."
"Kinda sounds like you, doesn't it?" You chuckled nervously.
"If you say so." But there was a slight, almost imperceptible quirk to the corners of his mouth, making your heart stop, then flutter back to life at double the speed. What was he doing to your body? This couldn't be healthy. Any longer, and you might go into cardiac arrest. You had to find a way to get out of here, quickly.
Determined, you grabbed ahold of your cup, managing to finish what was left without spilling another drop. It would be suspicious if you didn't have a second, though. You held out your cup, white-knuckling the handle in an iron grip to stop it from shaking. "Could I get some more, please?"
"Sure." You watched him pour the steaming liquid into your cup. As soon as he lifted the pot, you pulled the cup away and downed it without wasting a second.
This was going better than you had expected. You'd actually be able to pull off your usual three.
You held out your cup again. "Hit me up." Levi snorted but poured you another.
You gulped it down in one go. Before you could stop yourself, you shot Levi a quick glance, just long enough to catch the raised eyebrow, then quickly dropped your gaze to your knees.
"This was great," you began stiffly. "As always. But I should probably get going now. Still got some important… reporting to do. Yep. I really have to get back to my report. So… This was great. Did I say that already? Because it was. Great. Anyway…" You shot up so quickly, you almost toppled over the chair.
Levi looked up at you with narrowed eyes. It seemed like he was about to say something, but before he had a chance to get a word in, you quickly continued. "See you tomorrow." You gave him an awkward wave as you speed-walked to the door. "Or maybe at dinner. Who knows, right?" Definitely not going to happen. There was no way you'd get any food down with him in your line of sight. You'd have to sit at the other end of the mess hall, with your back to him. There was no other option, at least not at the moment.
But it had to get better eventually, right? You'd get used to your feelings, and everything would go back to normal. Yes. You nodded as you pulled open his office door and swiftly stepped outside, resisting the urge to look back. It just had to.
The door closed behind you with a thud, the sweet sound of a wooden barrier falling into place to protect you from the root of your racing heart. Your shoulders sagged as you leaned against it, a soft sigh escaping your lips.
Was being in love supposed to be this exhausting?
– –
Just as you'd planned, you managed to avoid Levi at dinner. You weren't so lucky at breakfast, though. Your roommates hadn't been particularly taken with your suggestion of switching things up for a change of scenery, and sadly your usual seat was a prime spot for Levi-viewing. (Definitely not by coincidence either, since both Lynne and Petra, who were regulars at your table, appreciated the front-row view of Levi in all his glory.)
But they had it easy. Their appreciation showed in admiring glances and little giggles.
Yours, on the other hand, turned you into a menace – your knife slipped from your sweaty grip multiple times, almost impaling the legs of your innocent seatmates. (It was a butter knife. But still.)
It was nerve-racking. You were almost relieved when it was time for your meeting with the commander to discuss the-near-death-by-dummy incident.
Erwin beckoned you inside. "Take a seat."
You did, fiddling with your sling as you waited for the commander to speak. But he remained silent, his stern gaze fixed on you, as if he were expecting you to say something first.
So you cleared your throat and began. "I sincerely apologize for my carelessness during training. As written in the report, I was distracted by a personal matter. There are no excuses, and it won't happen again. I promise the matter is… taken care of. I figured it out after a talk with Hange." Well, kind of taken care of. But as long as you steered clear from Levi, there should be no further distractions.
Erwin acknowledged your apology with a curt nod. "As you should now understand, what happened is far from a laughing matter. The training is designed to simulate the experience of a mission as closely as possible. Full attention is a prerequisite, just as it is on a real expedition. Just one moment of carelessness can cost you your life, like it almost did for you. You experienced it firsthand, so you understand why distractions can and will not be tolerated."
You swallowed. "Yes, sir. I understand."
Erwin lifted a thick eyebrow, clearly surprised by your unexpected formality. It was unlike you, but given the seriousness of the situation, you'd felt it was called for. For a moment, neither of you said a word. His forehead creased as he studied you, as if testing your sincerity. Finally, he gave a small nod.
"After careful consideration, I have decided that, based on your performance on past missions, you will be allowed to take part in the next expedition."
A wild grin formed on your lips, and you were ready to burst out with a spate of thanks, but Erwin held up a hand, signaling he wasn't done yet.
"However, I need you to understand that this is a preliminary decision, pending your performance during the next forest training. You will be closely monitored and evaluated before I make the final decision. But I trust you learned your lesson and will be fully present mentally."
"You bet!" You exclaimed full of enthusiasm. "I will give it my all, just like I do on missions. Thank you for your trust, I promise I won't disappoint!"
Erwin scrubbed a hand over his face, but there was a smile playing at the corners of his lips. Put at ease, you continued your chatter. "Honestly, I'm so relieved. A scout wouldn't be a scout without venturing beyond the walls. Kind of like a bird with no wings." You gestured to the wings of freedom emblazoned on his uniform jacket. "So I'm glad you decided to give me a chance. Being left behind at headquarters would've felt so… wrong. And kind of lonely, too."
Erwin rubbed his chin. "I see what you mean. The expeditions are what set us apart from the rest of the military, our defining purpose. And frankly, we can't afford to leave behind good soldiers. We need every man we can get."
You beamed at him. "You can definitely count on me!"
He regarded you warmly. "You certainly have the right spirit."
There was a knock on the door.
"Come in," Erwin called.
Levi stepped inside, carrying a few documents. Just the sight of him made your heart lurch in your chest.
"Ugh, nowhere's safe from him," you mumbled under your breath. Erwin shot you a strange look.
Flustered, you sprang to your feet. "Thanks again for the great talk. I promise I won't let you down. I'll leave you two to it, then."
You scrambled past Levi toward the door, almost tripping in your haste to escape. Your heart, too, seemed to stumble with each frantic beat. If just seeing him had this kind of effect on you, how could you possibly survive teatime today? There was just no way.
– –
It was a quarter to four. You were pacing through your room, trying to walk off the nervous energy that coursed through your veins like the concentrated essence of one hundred cups of tea. It was a last ditch effort, part of the strategy you'd come up with to get through teatime with Levi – to be so exhausted, you'd have no other option but to be calm.
It wasn't working in the slightest. Despite taking over chores left and right all day, you were still brimming with energy. You'd even volunteered to clean the stables, groom all the horses, pick every single last hoof – all one-handed. And yet, here you were, ready to run all the way to the capital on foot if only it would get you out of having to face Levi today.
It seemed like he mobilized energy reserves you didn't even know you had. Maybe Hange should investigate this phenomenon – it could help humanity gain the upper hand over the Titans. Endless energy by way of Levi.
You let out a deep, dramatic sigh and plopped down on a chair. This wasn't working. At this rate, Levi would find out something was up. After all, he was the most observant person you knew. And even worse, he might realize what it was, and then…
And then what? You had no idea. But it couldn't be good. Maybe he wouldn't want to have teatime together anymore. The thought made your stomach clench painfully, and you exhaled hard. If only you were better at hiding your feelings. You could already picture what would happen if you didn't get your emotions in check: At best, the victim of the inevitable nervous breakdown would be a tea cup, dropped from your sweaty hand. At worst, it would be you, after your heart had finally decided to give out under the pressure. Either way, disaster was guaranteed. How could you possibly prevent that?
Time to come up with another strategy.
You started pacing again, walking back and forth along the wall lined with shelves that held your collection of teapots. Your gaze landed on one, and without thinking, you traced the rough surface with your fingertips, feeling the jagged edges where the pieces had been painstakingly glued back together. It couldn't hold tea anymore, yet it had grown to be your favorite. Not really knowing why, you'd always felt a strange warmth in your chest just by looking at it.
Now you realized it was because it reminded you of Levi. He'd been the one to fix it for you after you had accidentally shattered it, no questions asked. Because this was the kind of person he was. Unfailingly reliable. Kind, even if he acted grumpy about it. Just thinking about him made you smile. It was strange how long it had taken you to realize how you felt about him. But now, you couldn't think of anything else. His voice. His hair. The way he'd looked at you in the forest when he'd found you. The feeling of his arms around you when you had shared a horse, your back against his chest. Warm. Safe.
You pressed your hands to your heart, trying to stop it from fluttering, but it was no use. Ugh. He was an even stronger stimulant than black tea. Maybe this should be your new strategy, then: getting used to him the same way a body got used to a drug, by slowly and carefully increasing the dosage – little by little, until even large amounts had no effect anymore.
"Yes, that could totally work," you mumbled to yourself. But that also meant you had to start with small doses. Teatime was off the table for now – no need to risk an overdose.
You cracked your knuckles, walked to the table, and got out at sheet of paper. Operation ' Levi-tolerance induction' was a go.
– –
You tiptoed to his office door, the piece of paper clutched in your clammy fingers. It read: Can't make it to teatime today. Not feeling well. Sorry for the short notice! It was the best you'd been able to come up with in the limited time you'd had.
You reached the door, quickly glancing left and right to make sure the coast was clear. Crouching low, you slid the piece of paper under the door, then shot back up and made a run for it.
Just as you turned the corner, you heard the door open. He was fast, like you'd expected. You fought the reflex to peek around the corner to see his reaction. You had to be strong and walk on. It was the only way for your plan to work. "Small doses," you whispered. "Small doses."
You skipped dinner to make your excuses seem more believable, drawing from your supply of tea biscuits to avoid going hungry.
At breakfast, you did your best to look as lethargic as possible. It wasn't so easy to look ill while simultaneously stuffing your face, but you gave it your all. You needed to stock up on energy, since the step-by-step plan called for only one encounter with Levi on the first day, meaning you'd have to skip dinner again.
During your designated Levi-exposure time, however, the idea was to look at him as much as possible to build your tolerance. This didn't turn out to pose as much of a challenge as you'd thought – you couldn't seem to stop yourself from staring at him, anyway. How could a person look this good while simply buttering a slice of bread? It shouldn't be legal. Seeing him work out would probably be the end of you. Luckily, you wouldn't be exposed to that just yet.
Because of your arm, the only training you were assigned to at the moment was stamina training – for today, that meant training together with squad Mike, so you'd be able to avoid Levi then. But you already feared for your heart when it would inevitably be squad Levi's turn.
For teatime, you slid another paper under his door – Can't make it. Still sick. – then fled the scene again. All that stamina training was really paying off.
You kept this up for days, strategically avoiding Levi while gradually increasing your exposure. It seemed to be working, but it also felt a little lonely. This was the longest you'd gone without talking to him since you'd met, and teatime alone in your room just didn't feel the same.
Fortunately, you wouldn't have to stick it out much longer. According to your plan, today would be the last day of skipping your shared tea.
As you walked down the hallway towards Levi's office, a small smile tugged at your lips. "Just one more day," you whispered, tightening your grip on the note in your hand. Still sick.
You hadn't realized how much you'd missed him, despite seeing him every day. It just wasn't the same without talking to him.
You crouched down in front of his door the same way you always did, but this time, the moment felt almost solemn. With a final nudge, you pushed the note underneath it.
The door flew open in an instant, and before you could even think of running away, he had already pulled you inside. Levi. You stared at him, wide-eyed with shock.
"I know you're not sick," he said, his hand still closed around your wrist. "You were at training every single day, so that can't be it. Something's wrong. Tell me what it is."
His gaze seared into your face, searching it for an answer. Your heart was thudding in your ears, your mind completely blank. All you could do was stare at him like a cornered animal, all thoughts eluding you. You couldn't get one word out. To make things even worse, you started to tremble.
Something flashed over his face, his brow furrowing just slightly. He let go of your wrist and stepped back. "Have some tea, first."
You legs felt numb as you walked over to the table and sat down. He pushed the cup toward you, and you took it, mechanically taking a sip. You still didn't know what to say. I'm head over heels for you, so I was trying to build up a tolerance, which clearly hasn't worked, because I'm still a nervous wreck around you. You couldn't possibly say that. It was your first time keeping words inside like that, consciously holding them back. It was almost painful for you. You really were sick. Lovesick.
Your eyes flicked up to Levi's face. He was still looking at you. His eyebrows were drawn together in a frown. You were so tense, you almost flinched when he started speaking again.
"You seem to be avoiding me. Why?"
"I–" you started. You wrung your hands, trying to come up with a plausible excuse. Levi waited for you to continue, but you still couldn't think of something to say. You just sat there, miserably staring at your hands.
"Is it because of what I said about you staying behind for the next expedition?"
Your eyes snapped to his. "What? No."
"Then why?"
"It's… It's not like I'm angry with you or anything. I'm sorry if I made you think that. It's just that…" You exhaled a shaky breath. "Can I...ask you something?"
"Sure."
"… What do you love most in this world? For me, I always thought it was tea but…" You trailed off. "Anyway, you don't have to answer this right now, just picture it in your head. And now, this next part is hypothetical, but…" You nervously played with your sling. "If a fire broke out here, and everyone else had already evacuated, but I was still inside, passed out from the smoke… What do you save? Me or… Your dust rag, or whatever. Whatever you love most." The last part was a lame attempt at a joke, but you didn't dare look up to see his reaction.
Levi snorted. "That's a stupid question."
You swallowed. Of course it was.
"Of course I would save you."
You jerked your head up. "You would?"
Levi nodded, his eyes fixed on you. You felt your face heat up under the intensity of his gaze.
"You… You can only save one, though, I forgot to say that part."
"Still you."
"Oh." Oh. Your breath caught. Did that mean…?
"It wasn't much of a choice," Levi muttered, his voice low and raspy, as if the words had been caught in his throat.
Your eyes widened. Your body started to tingle all over. Levi felt the same…?
You noticed the way he was looking at you, this strange softness around his eyes, open and raw, everything inside them bared.
He felt the same!
A wild happiness soared in your chest, spreading through you like liquid warmth, making your face light up with the widest, fiercest smile, too powerful to hold back – but you didn't have to hold back anymore.
"I'm so glad you feel the same," you told him, still beaming at him. You felt weightless, like everything pressing down on you had suddenly been lifted.
And there it was, tugging at the corners of his lips – his own quiet smile.
You couldn't sit still anymore, so you got up, but getting up wasn't enough, so you rounded the table, and then you took his hand, because the only way to make it feel enough was to be close to him.
"Levi," you said. He was looking up at you, and you were looking back at him. "I like you more than tea."
"You do, huh."
"Yep. A lot more, actually. Tea never made me this nervous. Not even twenty cups of it."
A pause. His eyes crinkled. "So that's what this was."
You nodded furiously. "I was so nervous, I couldn't think straight. I guess I was worried you wouldn't feel the same." You tugged at his hand, pulling him up to you. "But I'm not nervous anymore."
You pulled him even closer, until there was no distance left between you, your heart beating against his again, just like on the day he had rescued you.
"Not even a little?" he asked, his gaze locked with yours. Levi's palm was warm against your face as he cupped your cheek, his thumb tracing a slow path down your chin. The sensation sent a shiver down your spine.
"Maybe a bit…" Your voice was just a breathy whisper against his lips.
His answer was lost as he closed the distance between you, but you could feel it in the brush of his lips against yours. "Good."
Your eyes fluttered closed, and you let yourself get lost, no longer sure where you started and he ended.
When you opened them again, your tea had long gone cold. You didn't mind. You had something warm right here.

A/n: It finally happened! I can't believe I'm saying this, but the end is fast approaching. The next chapter will be an epilogue, so this actually marks the last full-length chapter of the tea lovers. See you soon <3

Hiding An Injury - Pt. 1 - Thorn
Summary: After a speeder accident lands you with a broken leg that you need surgery to repair, you decide that the smartest thing to do is hide it from Thorn. He’s away on a mission anyway, and surely, by the time he returns, you’d be healed. You really, really should have known better.
Pairing: Commander Thorn x GN!Reader
Word Count: 1184
Warnings: Reader got hit by a drunk driver and needed surgery, and it just not having a good time.
A/N: So I had this idea for a while, I'm planning a mini-series with several different clones and their cyare hiding injuries/illnesses from them. Also, I think I managed to keep this gender neutral, but I'm not for sure.

You’re not healing well.
Or, to be more specific, you’re healing a lot slower than you and your doctors would prefer. And it’s threatening to become a problem.
Not medically speaking. Your doctor is adamant that your slow healing won’t be a problem in the long run, though it does mean that you’ll probably need Physical Therapy to help strengthen your leg after it’s been immobilized for so long.
No.
The problem is that you didn’t tell Thorn that you got hurt.
You didn’t mention the speeder accident, the long list of injuries, or surgery.
You’ve even managed to keep your injuries a secret from his brothers in the guard. In truth, you’re still not sure how you managed to do that, outside of the fact that the only people who know about your relationship with Thorn are Fox and Stone.
Your reasoning was sound, at the time. He was away on a mission, and the last thing you wanted to do was distract him and cause him to get hurt.
The plan was just that you wouldn’t mention it. The rods would be gone. And Thorn would never find out.
Ever.
Only, he’s coming back. Tonight. And you’re still in a cast.
He’s going to be so…not mad. Never mad. But disappointed. And hurt.
You glare at the rods sewn into your leg. It, really, is the cause of all of your problems right now. But even removing the rods right this moment wouldn’t help…because you still need them to heal properly.
Maybe he won’t notice?
Your gaze lingers on the rods for a moment, and you sigh. There’s no way that he won’t notice. He’s not that oblivious. Not when it comes to you.
So, it sounds like you’re just going to have to accept that your lie of omission isn’t going to stay a secret.
It’s fine.
Probably.
Several hours later, while you’re curled up on the couch with a bowl of ice cream, you hear the sound of the door code being entered, and the sound of the door sliding open with a quiet squeal.
“Cyare?” Thorn calls from the front hall, “I’m home!”
You shift, uncomfortable, and then you release a silent sigh. “Welcome back!” You call as you slowly set your bowl on the side table and carefully use your crutches to get to your feet.
The stupid things are so unwieldy and even now you struggle with them. As soon as you don’t need them anymore, you’re going to burn them. Who cares if they’re metal and won’t burn? You’ll find a way.
You hobble into the front hallway, and a tiny smile crosses your face when you see Thorn standing there. His back is turned to you, as he removes his armor and sets it on the stand by the front door, but he looks fine.
There’s no obvious injuries that you can see.
And it’s like a massive weight lifts from your shoulders. It might not have been an easy deployment, but your Thorn came back to you in one piece. That’s enough for you.
“Welcome back,” You repeat, a smile in your voice as you watch him stretch as he removes the last bit of armor.
“Sorry, I’m so late, cyare. I had to report to Fox.”
“It’s fine. I’m just glad you’re home.” Your smile widens, “There’s leftover curry in the fridge, I ate a bit ago.”
“You made curry?”
“I ordered curry. When it looked like you weren’t going to be home for dinner I took the easy way out.”
He laughs, “You’re so lazy, bab—” Thorn finally turns his head to look at you, and he stops talking midsentence as he takes in the rods in and on your leg, and the crutches holding you up.
You watch as his gaze immediately sharpens, and he straightens to stare at you. His gaze is searching, likely looking for any additional injuries, but when he speaks, his voice is light.
“Those are new accessories.” There’s no accusation in his voice, just worry.
You shift your weight slightly, “Yeah, well…it’s a funny story—” It’s not, not really.
“I’d love to hear it.”
“...I was hit by a drunk driver.”
He’s quiet for a moment, “Based on the lack of injuries you have, I’m guessing it was a while ago?”
You make a face, “About five weeks.”
“And you’re still on crutches?”
“There was an issue with the metal in my leg,” You admit, “I had an allergic reaction to the nickel and it…well…basically, I had to restart the healing process in my leg about two weeks ago.”
Thorn is quiet again, for even longer this time, but then his hands settle, gently, on your cheeks. “Are you okay, cyare?”
“Yeah. I hate the crutches, but I’m okay.”
“Getting hit by a drunk driver sounds painful—”
“...oh. Yeah. That.” You pause, “In truth, I don’t remember that part. I don’t remember most of that week.”
Thorn looks pained, “Baby.”
“But, look. I’m okay. My concussion healed, and my bruises healed, and all that’s left is my broken leg.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I…what if I distracted you? What if you got hurt because you were too busy being worried about me?”
“Do you have that little faith in my abilities?”
“No, of course not.” You counter immediately, “Just…the idea of you getting hurt because I distracted you at the wrong time makes me feel sick.”
He sighs and smooths his hand over your head, “Why didn’t Fox tell me?”
“Oh, he doesn’t know. I’m not entirely sure how he doesn’t know, but he doesn’t.”
A strange look crosses his face, “You’ve been dealing with this alone?”
“Mother was here for the first two weeks. She rearranged the kitchen. I haven’t had the energy to deal with it yet.”
Thorn sighs again, and you feel a surge of guilt at how tired he sounds. Then he leans in and presses his forehead against yours, “Next time, cyare, just tell me. Please?”
“Ideally, there won’t be a next time.”
“I know, but if it does happen again, I want to be the first person to know. Or one of the first people to know.” He presses a light kiss to your lips, “Also, I’m telling all of the guard about us when I go to work in two days.”
“...why?”
“That way you’ll have a support system that isn’t your mother if this happens again.” Thorn kisses you again, “Now, how about we go back into the living room, and I warm up dinner for myself, and you tell me what you’ve been doing these last couple of weeks.”
“You’re not mad at me?”
“How could I possibly be mad at the love of my life?” Thorn kisses you quickly, “I am mad at the drunk driver, though.” He presses feather-light kisses all over your face, and you start to giggle, pulling a fond smile to his face. “Love you, cyare.”
You beam at him, “Love you too.” You carefully lean against him and reach up to press your hand against his cheek, “Welcome home, Thorn.”

#I feel. like I get too worried about putting my stuff in the tags LOL#or just too worried about ants in general#but to be fair I've come from some really infested fandoms#where people got reported for this stuff so hard they were removed from the site#idk if tumblr changed it though. maybe they did. where if someone hit a certain number of reports on their account they got removed#whether they were breaking TOS or not#I think that could have been changed because I don't see it happen anymore#but the more I cared about this tumblr acc the more scared of that I got LOL#it's been super peaceful though???#this could just be because I blocked like half the fandom before posting anything here#but I haven't received any hate mail & haven't had any sort of callout like I was expecting#and I guess mallesil isn't really SUPER controversial#it's leaning off the gray area lately but it is still in the gray area#I just feel like I'm cheating with how easy it is to ''get away'' with having HEY I LIKE INCEST front and center on my pinned and all#when I've seen someone get reported off the map for making one singular post saying they don't mind people who ship child characters#and I've just gotten away with posting sooo many mallesil posts in the main tags lately I'm like huh??? Did I ever actually need to worry?#it's kind of embarrassing I guess having several things in my Posts That Do Not Go Into The Main Tags#that I'm just now realizing were probably totally fine to put out there lol#like damn maybe I can just talk about lilia kissing silver with tongue and get away with it????#anyway#while I am on the subject of things I am embarrassed about for no reason#I feel especially bad lately for not posting like ANYTHING about sebek or lilia most of the time lol#I made a point to draw all the twst characters at least once a while ago but I don't think I've actually drawn sebek more than that?#sorry sebek I love you sebek :(#sebesil is such a good ship and I just have absolutely zero passion for it I DON'T KNOW!!! It just isn't there for me!!!#I like it a lot I love all the ship art for it I like seeing it pop up in fics#but if you leave me to my own devices I'm. not going to think about them even a little probably lol...#I do think about mallesebe sometimes though. I wrote about them once for the request. they're so fun they're so awful#and yet. most of the thoughts I have for mallesebe I'm just like hrmmmm this could be mallesil instead#sorry again sebek I love you sebek 😭

Trick or treat! :3
well hello if it isn't my favorite aidanchaser in the whole world 🥰 got something extra special from as yet the glass seems true for you!
He was too close to her to concentrate. She was looking at him across the table again, just as she had out in the common. Just as she had since that day at the palace when Ladybug and Chat Noir had become Marinette and Adrien. He held her gaze, the brightest splash of blue in the entire library, and repressed a smirk when she dropped her head back to her book. “What’d you get for number six?” whispered Alya, sitting beside her. “I—” Marinette cleared her throat, color blooming in her cheeks as Adrien nudged his ankle against hers. “I’m not there yet.” “You’re already on six?” Nino’s whisper carried louder as he flipped through his textbook, simultaneously scrolling through the document open on his laptop screen. “I’m stuck on four.” “Me too,” Adrien said, heart lobbing painfully in his chest as he felt the ball of Marinette’s shoe dig into his shin. “I mean, I—I don’t remember this in the reading.” “It wasn’t,” Alya said, frowning back down at her book. “I had to look it up. It’s in some book the professor published in the nineties, way back before King Colt’s time.” “Oh,” said Adrien. Marinette was looking up at him through her lashes, the inside of her shoe now pressed against the inside of Adrien’s. He slid his foot forward, knocking his heel against the back of hers. The corners of her mouth dimpled with her own repressed smile. “Well then why’d he put it on the study guide?” Nino hissed, looking across the table at Alya. “Probably to make our lives harder,” Alya said. At Marinette’s sudden intake of breath—Adrien’s knee tingled where it now brushed against hers—her brow wrinkled. “You okay, Marinette? You look kinda sick.” “I’m fine.” Marinette’s voice was hitched in her throat; she cleared it before trying again. “I just…” She stood rapidly, her cheeks flushed, her eyes fixed on the café at the library entrance. “I think I need another drink.”

I'm sorry did you say Neglected Omega! Reader-
👁️👄👁️
My favorite trope of all time, I need your thoughts and ideas cause 🥺
-🎓 anon
I have so many thoughts idk how to put them in words bear with me 🎓 anon 😩
Like, them not even doing it intentionally but it still happens. Between missions, reports, duties, you just kind of… slip off their minds, they assume another one of them will give you the attention they can’t give you at the moment.
Maybe your scent starts going sour, bitter- something unpleasant and proof of your sadness and unhappiness but it’s just so easy to chalk it up to how hard things have been lately and surely you can deal with it yourself, no?
And you really do try to tell yourself that it’ll pass, everything’ll be fine- but you are tired and sad and stressed and not a single one of them comes to even ask you about your heat that is getting delayed the worse you feel.
Maybe they are angry at you, upset at you for whatever you reason, so you do the smart thing and begin avoiding shared spaces; specifically, the shared nest area that should have everyone’s scents, somewhere safe and soothing.
The longer you stay away, the more your scent fades.
The longer you stay away, the more convinced you are that something has to be wrong with you. Maybe they dislike your scent. Maybe they dislike you- always have, but now they truly can’t stand you anymore and it breaks your tender little heart into so many jagged shards.
So you nest in youe own room: it’s a miserable little thing, just some standard flat pillows and white sheets that feel clinical more than anything else. It brings you no comfort, no matter how you curl up.
It all comes crashing down when you get injured. Injured, and your delayed heat finally making its appearance. It should mean you’d let your pack take such nice care of you, right? Right?
No.
You growl at them when they try to enter your miserable nest in your room, viewing them as a threat. And that is their wake-up call :3
Part two.

Things I've learned from getting covid for the first time in 2023
I wear an N95 in public spaces and I've managed to dodge it for a long time, but I finally got covid for the first time (to my knowledge) in mid-late November 2023. It was a weird experience especially because I feel like it used to be something everyone was talking about and sharing info on, so getting it for the first time now (when people generally seem averse to talking about covid) I found I needed to seek out a lot of info because I wasn't sure what to do. I put so much effort into prevention, I knew less about what to do when you have it. I'm experiencing a rebound right now so I'm currently isolating. So, I'm making a post in the hopes that if you get covid (it's pretty goddamn hard to avoid right now) this info will be helpful for you. It's a couple things I already knew and several things I learned. One part of it is based on my experience in Minnesota but some other states may have similar programs.
--------
The World Health Organization states you should isolate for 10 days from first having symptoms plus 3 days after the end of symptoms.
--------
At the time of my writing this post, in Minnesota, we have a test to treat program where you can call, report the result of your rapid test (no photo necessary) and be prescribed paxlovid over the phone to pick up from your pharmacy or have delivered to you. It is free and you do not need to have insurance. I found it by googling "Minnesota Test to Treat Covid"
--------
Paxlovid decreases the risk of hospitalization and death, but it's also been shown to decrease the risk of Long Covid. Long Covid can occur even from mild or asymptomatic infections.
--------
Covid rebound commonly occurs 2-8 days after apparent recovery. While many people associate Paxlovid with covid rebound, researchers say there is no strong evidence that Paxlovid causes covid rebound, and rebounds occur in infections that were not treated with Paxlovid as well. I knew rebounds could happen but did not know it could take 8 days. I had mine on day 7 and was completely surprised by it.
--------
If you start experiencing new symptoms or test positive again, the CDC states that you should start your isolation period again at day zero. Covid rebound is still contagious. Personally I'd suggest wearing a high quality respirator around folks for an additional 8-9 days after you start to test negative in case of a rebound.
--------
Positive results on a rapid test can be very faint, but even a very faint line is positive result. Make sure to look at your rapid test result under strong lighting. Also, false negatives are not uncommon. If you have symptoms but test negative taking multiple tests and trying different brands if you have them are not bad ideas. My ihealth tests picked up my covid, my binax now tests did not.
--------
EDIT: I'd highly suggest spending time with friends online if you can, I previously had a link to the NAMI warmline directory in this post but I've since been informed that NAMI is very much funded by pharmaceutical companies and lobbies for policies that take autonomy away from disabled folks, so I've taken that off of here! Sorry, I had no idea, the People's CDC listed them as a resource so I just assumed they were legit! Feel free to reply/reblog this with other warmlines/support resources if you know of them! And please reblog this version!
--------
I know that there is so much we can't control as individuals right now, and that's frightening. All we can do is try our best to reduce harm and to care for each other. I hope this info will be able to help folks.

Kang is still recovering from that horrible incident and tends to drop by at his office to check up on things. He actually sees Jayden stepping out of her office for once. His mouth shut and feeling that sense of dread of not to say anything. Kang tries to force a smile, uneased and half attempt to do a wave.
Recovery was never easy. It always took its time, even when the person tried their hardest to swallow the experience and return to their normal procedures. It was little things, tiny instances which triggered those dreaded memories when they least expected it. Always at random times, too. One moment a pleasant meal could turn sour just by the taste of the food, or a single word spoken in a distraught or more vocalized manner.
It all flooded back as one huge wave. Crashing down, drowning the person, making them feel small and insignificant all over again. Powerless and afraid. How could anyone cover up those intense emotions in those moments? Why spiral and make those around you worried when everything was alright in the present? It'd be rude to squander other's enjoyment just because your panic and anxiety appeared so unexpectedly.
Why bother with them? Why tell them anything when you're old enough to handle these sensations all on your own?
Tumblr media
It wasn't a first time experience. And at this point, Jayden knew it wouldn't be the last. A target had been painted on her back as well as those close to her. Her mother, her friends, and most recently, her own co-workers. After Kang's rescue, the young woman refused to leave the apartment, let alone her own room. Work wasn't too difficult to transfer onto her home computer network, but many began worrying when Jayden agreed to return. A hard refusal always came at the end of their on-call meetings, never once budging despite her boss' attempts.
Yet at some point, Jayden saw her office in person once again. Perhaps it was because of Kang's return to work, yet even that reunion fell flat. They never met eye-to-eye, only speaking briefly about exporting edits or technical difficulties. It was more about business, and never any personal chatter.
Tumblr media
Did he hate her? Would he ever forgive her for coming to his aid so late? Jayden hadn't spoken a single word to Kang regarding the incident, seeing as it still felt fresh in their minds. Days turned into weeks, yet still nothing happened. She attempted swallowing her anxiety to, at least, ask him out for a coffee break. When was the last time they enjoyed their company outside work? Well before his kidnapping...
Another day meant another attempt. Once her lunch break ended, she exited the small break room for a quick trip to the beverage bar. Lucky for her, Kang had the same idea in mind. Mismatched eyes took one glance towards her friend, but averted away seeing the small smile fall upon his cheeks. It wasn't the same. It's not the usual bright and cheery grin he always gave her whenever they first saw each other in the morning. It wasn't his carefree greeting when they met up at their favorite cafe.
It was sad. It held pain. And it hurt her.
Tumblr media
A drink didn't sound so appetizing now, nor did the meal sitting in her stomach. It churned, feeling uneasy and as if something twisted her insides into a knot. She knew this reaction all too well. She recognized the guilt trying to harm her. Jayden couldn't bare being in the room any longer, and instead of waiting patiently for her coffee she took off in silence. Work needed to be done, and she desperately needed the distraction.
Maybe next time. Maybe their next meeting she would be strong enough to say something....
....to tell him she's sorry for everything.

sevika comes home after another tiring day. gladly, she has a good way of reliving stress.

Tumblr media
it was well past 12am but your kitchen was alive, filled with smells of spices and meat. sevika was still not home, and recently she took a very annoying habit of staying too late at work. you couldn't blame her. maybe you were staying home all day and having all the time to enjoy yourself and work around the house but you were knowledgeable enough to understand how hard politics can be. so there's definitely not even a thought to voice any of your complaints to sevika.
yet, you couldn't stop to feel disappointed and dissatisfied the whole day, ever since you woke up late in the morning, sevika already off to work. it was unfair that you are unable to meet her while living in the same house and sleeping in one bed. and that's the exact reason why you were staying up late, waiting for her to come home. "i will not go through the day without seeing my own wife." you told yourself as you put on the apron about an hour ago to spend some time cooking so you wouldn't fall asleep by accident.
finally you hear a key clicking in the lock and a door opening. you smile to yourself but don't move from your place to meet sevika, the pan demanding your full attention.
sevika moves around the house, taking off her boots and outwear, washing her hands in the bathroom, before coming into the kitchen.
"give me a sec-" you don't finish your sentence, sevika surprises you by basically attaching herself to your body, hugging from behind and nuzzling into the top of your head.
"sorry i'm late." she mummbles and it makes you smile.
"how was your day?" you ask as you stir the stew on the stove.
"i work with complete idiots."
you can't help but laugh at sevika's attitude. she sounds like a pouty child, the sleepiness in her voice definitely adding to overall cutness of her.
comfortable silence hangs between you as you continue to cook and sevika just tracks your hand movements. she gets restless, you guess, when you feel her palms cup your breasts. sevika presses more into you and kneads your chest, her mouth coming down to leave light kisses on your neck. it tickles and you flinch away slightly. sevika just presses harder, your frame now caught between her and the counter.
"aren't you hungry, babe?"
she humms in agreement but doesn't let you go. "my meal is right here." it's probably the cheesiest thing you heard from her but you're so in love it works, something twirls in your lower belly.
you nudge her to the side to turn off the stove so the food wouldn't burn and face her finally. there're dark circles under her eyes, she definitely needs a better sleep schedule. the sight makes you frown.
"i hope it's your day off tomorrow, like you promised." you look at her with a stern look but cup her cheek gently, rubbing circles with your thumb.
"it is." sevika grins, there's a mischievous glint in her eyes. "planned spending it without letting you out of my grip". her hands rise back to your waistline, toying with the ties of your sweatpants under the apron.
there's a lot you can tell her. it's been a long day for both of you, especially sevika. she probably only had quick snacks on her brakes. she needs to sleep more. but how can you when she grew basically professional at seducing you.
treating your silence as a permission to continue, sevika slides your pants and underwear swiftly. suddenly you're in the air, held by her, as she places you on the kitchen counter.
"made me nervous there, doll," she huffs and squats down to place herself perfectly between your legs. "thought, i'll have to beg."
she starts slow, taking her sweet time to get you hot and wet. she squeezes your thighs while telling how her day went. the end of the year is coming and it seems everyone demands annual reports on her every move.
you really try to be an attentive wife and listen carefully to her stories but it's basically impossible when sevika runs her hands up and down your inner thighs, the contrast of temperature between her arms makes you shiver. you can help but gasp as the finger of her metal arm dips softly in the crease where your hip connects to the crotch.
"no, baby. don't block the view." she teases when your legs twitch, trying to close from the unexpected contact.
"sorry," you sigh. "just... weren't you so eager for this?"
"i am." sevika laughs and puts her head on your hip. "but don't you want to be a good wife and listen to what i'v been up to?"
and you do. of course, you do. but that's not really the reaction she waits from you. recently sevika's been set on a mission. begging wouldn't help in this situation. what she really wanted is you demanding things from her. you were too nice and sweet, usually considering other's wishes first rather than yourself. sevika finds it cute and cherishes that part of you. it's one of the traits that was important for survival in zaun, people being empathetic towards each other, always ready to help the community. but everything had it's limits and by sevika's judgment you needed to be selfish sometimes, specifically with her, because either way she was willing and ready to serve your every wish.
"vika, please." you whine.
"try again." she turns her head to kiss your thigh.
"fuck- you need to eat me out!" you finally give up, leaning further back, your head presses against the wall, hips thrust up to get closer to her mouth.
she doesn't let you wait a second more as she basically leaps forward and puts her lips on your pussy. your apron is still on you, sevika dips under it, hiding herself. she chuckles as you whine displeased and doesn't let you drag the fabric up for a better view.
there's a pause that's followed by a bite on your inner thigh. "use your words."
"wanna see, vika. let me see." there's a smile against your skin. she lays her lips back on your dripping cunt and reaches for the laces of your apron.
the sight is magical, you think. her face rubbing against you, nose already coated in your slick as she was teasing your clit, sliding up and down. sevika holds your gaze, taking in your reaction, and then just dives deeper, closing her eyes. her tongue is inside of you now. you cry out with pleasure, you legs closing around her.
sevika is so so so good for you. she can't move her head now, so she can only use her mouth. the tongue disappears from your hole and she just sucks on your clit. her puppy grey eyes are back on you, drinking in your reaction.
the kitchen is filled with your quite moans when she holds you there for couple more minutes. then she decides something for herself. the tip of her tongue on your clit. it dances lightly without much rhythm.
sevika once told you, she needs to try to spell the whole alphabet on your pussy and maybe it's the time for it. and if it is, you're not sure you can last through the whole thing, already too worked up.
"vika-" she raises her brows in question. "need to cum."
as she hears it, the pressure hardens, her tongue now laying more flat, trying to cover as much skin as she can. the sounds of her mouth and your drenched cunt become louder. you have to hold onto her head, pushing fingers through her hair, to steady yourself.
sevika doesn't stop, doesn't slow down as you reach the climax. "need to clean up the mess." she usually jokes, guiding you through the feeling and then some, becoming delirious with need to overstimulate you till you actually tell her to stop.
you slide down the counter when you finally catch your breath, legs shakey. sevika has to steady you, grabbing your elbow.
"i'm not letting you out of the bed till monday." you say, brining yourself closer, kissing her wet lips.
"can't say i'll be disappointed." sevika grins. you scoff under your breath and tug at her arm out of the kitchen, stumbling like a baby deer on shaky legs.

Tumblr media
You anxiously bounced your leg under the table, gently gnawing on your bottom lip as you glanced around the fancy restaurant. Across from you, the chair in front of you had now been empty for an awfully long time now and something told you that your blind date had ditched, leaving you with the incredibly overwhelming and taxing bill.
Fuck.
You rested your head in your hands and let out a tired sigh. There was no way this was happening.
As you reached for your wallet, you flagged down a nearby waiter to ask for the bill. He nodded at your request and you let out what seemed to the umpteenth sigh of that night. While waiting for the bill to reach your table, you began rearranging the leftover peas on your porcelain plate.
“Didn’t know we had a Picasso in the house.” An unfamiliar voice remarked next to you.
You yelped in surprise and whipped around to see a tall, handsome young man peering over your shoulder with an amused smile. He was in a black button down with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, showcasing his prominent forearm muscles, tucked into a pair of dark trousers. “That’s very impressive… is that a self-portrait?”
You snorted in disbelief, your shoulders shaking as you let out a quiet laugh. “No, it’s supposed to be my date. Too bad they left before I could remember what they looked like.”
The mysterious man scrunched up his handsome face, as if to say ‘Ouch’. “Do you mind if I—?” He gestured towards the empty seat in front of you and you nodded.
“Go ahead. That seat’s going to be empty for the rest of the night anyways.” You let out a bitter laugh. He gave you a sympathetic smile and situated himself in front of you with an arm outstretched reaching over the table.
“Kim Mingyu. I’m the owner and executive chef of this restaurant. I received a report that there was an attractive young person who was left on their lonesome after their date mysteriously disappeared.” The man, Mingyu, tilted his head. “Didn’t think said person was going to be this attractive though.”
You blushed at his compliment as you shook his hand. “[Name]. Not sure who snitched on me, though I’m glad to have new company.”
“Are you… on your way out now? Since your date is gone?”
“Yes, I’m just waiting for the bill.”
Mingyu waved his hand dismissively. “Don’t worry about it. It’s on the house.”
Your eyes widened in disbelief. “You’re kidding.”
After spilling coffee on your blouse this morning and running 30 minutes late for work, you were more than positive that the day was going to end in disaster. The disappearance of your blind date following a very long, tiring day at work only confirmed those suspicions. However, it seemed like that the goddess of luck was no longer hellbent on making your life a living disaster with the way the stranger sitting across from you managed to douse out the fire that had been burning within you for the past few hours with a single smile.
“I’m afraid I’m not. But if you feel pressured or aren’t comfortable with it, no worries!” Mingyu said lightheartedly.
“Oh my God,” You ran a tired hand through your face and let out a dry, incredulous laugh. “You literally just saved me from having the worst day ever. I was preparing myself to break down into tears once I received the check. Thank you, I really appreciate that.”
He smiled at your words. “Of course, just doing my daily random act of kindness for a stranger. Although…” He trailed off and you quirked an inquisitive brow at him.
“Although?” You asked.
“Although… would it appall you if I said it was my way of shooting my shot?” Mingyu rubbed the back of his neck with a nervous laugh. His eyes nervously darted back and forth between your face and the half-eaten plate in front of him, left by your crappy blind date who was honestly, no longer in your realm of attention. Not when Mingyu was in front of you.
Shooting his shot? You felt your cheeks burn at a temperature similar to the candle perched on a candelabra on your table at his words and you coughed before fumbling to find the right words.
“I mean… I wouldn’t be opposed to it. Since you’re my savior tonight and all…” Your voice faltered and Mingyu beamed.
“That’s great! Here’s my business card, if you ever want to contact me.” He pulled out a crisp card and handed it to you as he got up from the chair. “Well, I must be getting on my way now. I’d love to stay and chat but I have big boss duties to do.”
Mingyu tipped an imaginary top hat towards your direction. You smiled. “It was nice meeting you, [Name].”
“It was nice meeting you too, Mingyu. I’ll contact you,” You waved his business card and he nodded.
“I’ll be looking forward to it. Bye, [Name].”
And with that he was gone, leaving nothing but the lingering scent of his perfume and the fluttering of your heart.
Tumblr media
“Just call him!!” Your best friend urged you. He was sitting on the other end of the sofa, munching on a bag of chips as he watched you metaphorically rip your hair out over the business card you received from Mingyu a week ago.
“It’s not that simple, Seungkwan! What if he hates me now because it took me so long to contact him? I bet he’s forgotten about me at this point.” You pouted and continued to stare at the worn, but still elaborate cardstock in your hands.
Seungkwan rolled his eyes. “Dude, you’re overthinking this entire thing. Listen to me,” He paused to fix his posture to face you. “He gave you the business card, right?”
You nodded.
“Did he ask for your number?”
You shook your head.
“Did he receive any kind of contact information from you?”
You shook your head again.
“But he gave you his business card? [Name], he literally served you the ball on a silver platter. He’s interested in you but won’t make any moves unless you do. The ball is in your court. Take that damn ball and BOUNCE IT!”
Seungkwan let out a frustrated yell and shoved another handful of chips into his mouth. “I swear, you have the IQ of Jeonghan’s pet rock sometimes.”
“Hey! Doljjong is very intelligent!” Your other best friend yelled from the kitchen. “He has really good hearing too, so don’t insult him like that or else you’ll be dealing with me.”
Seungkwan rolled his eyes and you laughed as Jeonghan came out into the living room to give his own two cents.
“But Seungkwan’s right. The entire fate of a whole new possible relationship with this mythical Kim Mingyu—”
“HE’S REAL. I SHOOK HIS HAND.”
“—is in your hands. Don’t blow it. Or else me and Seungkwan—”
“Seungkwan and I.” You corrected him.
“—will be—Okay, fuck you, grammar police—Will be taking this matter into our own hands so we no longer have to hear your bitching and whining.”
You let out a frustrated groan and threw down the business card that’s been putting you through pain and misery through the past week.
“God, he was literally perfect. I don’t wanna blow it and—”
“That’s what they said.”
“Jeonghan, I’m going to literally throw Doljjong into the bottom of Han River and you’re going to be joining him soon after if you don’t shut the fuck up.”
Seungkwan burst into laughter and watched you and Jeonghan continue to argue back and forth.
“Forget it, it’s useless talking to a person who believes that a rock can be a pet.” You got up from your spot on the couch and reached for your phone. “I’m stepping out for some air. Lock the door if you leave before I come back.”
“See ya, don’t wanna be ya!” Jeonghan yelled from the living room as you left the house and you loudly groaned.
You loved both your best friends but they sometimes drove you absolutely insane.
Tumblr media
The sky was dark but the countless lights from the skyscrapers and streetlights illuminated the Han River, making the surface twinkle and shine under the pale moonlight.
You were sitting on a lone bench, facing the river as you mindlessly fidgeted with Mingyu’s business card. The edges were fraying from the countless amount of times you’ve handled it between your fingertips, and you traced the black lettering of Mingyu’s name with your index finger as you silently sounded out every vowel and consonant of his name.
Seungkwan’s words rang in your head. ‘He literally served you the ball on a silver platter. He’s interested in you but won’t make any moves unless you do. The ball is in your court. Take that damn ball and BOUNCE IT!’
Like a switch was suddenly flipped inside you, you reached for your phone. The screen lit up and you pulled up a new message to type in the phone number that was written on the card in your hand.
Without a single thought, you sent,
hey! it’s [name]!
Before you could even type the first letter of your follow-up text, the status of your message changed from ‘Delivered’ to ‘Read 21:24’ and you let out a gasp.
And then the loud, shrill ringing of your ringtone cut through the peaceful night air.
You gasped louder than before after seeing the caller ID, reaching to frantically turn off the ringer before answering the phone.
“He–hello?”
“Took you long enough,” Mingyu’s voice sounded crisp and clear on the other end of the line. You couldn’t see him, but you could almost hear the smile in his voice as he spoke. “You almost had me thinking that you were ghosting me or something.”
You let out an apologetic groan. “I’m so sorry, Mingyu. I got in my head and kept putting it off. I swear it wasn’t personal…”
Mingyu’s laugh was bright. “No worries! I assumed you had your hands full. Although, I did jump a little every time I received a text from anyone from the past week.”
“Oh, man… I feel horrible. I’m so sorry.”
“I’m telling you, don’t worry about it! Better late than never, right?” There was an awkward moment of silence before he spoke again. “What are you up to right now?”
You hummed and looked out at the tranquil water of the Han River reflecting the bright lights of the city. “Nothing much. I stepped out for a minute for some air. What about you?”
“Oh, really? I’m actually out for a walk too.” You swore you heard a second voice near you, echoing the words Mingyu was saying in your phone. “Turn around for me?”
You whipped around with the phone still pressed to your ear to see Mingyu standing behind the bench, a small smile playing on his lips. You ended the phone call.
“Mingyu?”
“‘Morning, sunshine,” He slid into the empty spot next to you and you scooched over to make more room for him. “What a way to run into the guy you’ve been ghosting, huh?”
You snorted at his greeting, ignoring the slight burn you felt in your cheeks from the nickname he had addressed you by. “I told you, it wasn’t intentional.”
Mingyu grinned. “I know. Just felt like teasing you.”
“What are- what are you doing here though? Do you live in this area?” You asked. He nodded.
“Yeah. I moved into that apartment complex not too long ago,” He pointed to a tall building on the other side of the river. “Has a killer night view. You should come over to check it out sometime.”
You choked on your spit, resulting in you barking out a short, panicked laugh. “Do you—-do you usually say these… these things to people?”
“No, not really. I’m not usually like this,” Mingyu looked over at you with a slight tilt in his head. The night breeze brushed his bangs across his forehead and you felt your breath falter at the way the closest streetlight illuminated his honey-like, gorgeous skin. There was a particular glint in his eyes as he opened his mouth to speak again. “Pardon me if this is too brazen, but I’m only like this when I feel like I’ve met the one. My soulmate.”
Your breath was caught in your throat.
“Does it… usually work?” You choked out. Your face felt incredibly hot and your clammy hands were sticking to the bench.
Mingyu turned back to face the river and your stomach did an odd flip. “I’m not sure. You tell me.”
Oh God. You thought you were melting on the spot with the way he was looking at you. Mingyu was holding eye contact with such intensity, you physically couldn’t look away. Your heart hammered wildly against your ribcage and you decided you were going to sign yourself up for the upcoming Olympics, with the way your stomach was doing flips like an Olympic gymnast. Simone Biles had nothing on whatever routine was going on inside you right now.
“… I’d give it a solid 8 out of 10.” You gave him the most nonchalant shrug you could afford, knowing that there were enough butterflies in your stomach to start a butterfly conservatory. Mingyu looked at you as if he was surprised by the score.
“Really? What would I have to do to win back the last two points?”
You gave him a pointed look, and the next words to leave your mouth almost sent you into cardiac arrest. “Hmm… live up to your words? I guess?”
And the smile Mingyu gave you in that moment was the brightest one of all. His entire being seemed to glow in ecstasy, glowing brighter than the streetlights as he looked at you with a suggestive glint in his eyes. “I thought you’d never ask.”

“Mingyu?” You called from the living room. Mingyu didn’t respond and the only thing you heard from the kitchen was the clattering of plates and silverware. “Babe?”
Pushing yourself off the couch with a quiet groan, you padded over to the kitchen where your fiancé was busying himself with preparing dinner. He was hunched over the counter, his hands and trusty knife busy at work as he chopped away on his chopping block. Careful not to startle him when he had a knife in his hand, you snuck your arms around Mingyu’s torso and peered over his shoulder to watch him work his magic.
“Watcha doing?” You asked sweetly. Mingyu acknowledged your presence with a short peck on your forehead.
“Hi, baby.” His voice was rough and the sound sent shivers down your spine. “Preparing to feed you. Why?”
You hummed and nuzzled your face into Mingyu’s back. He smelled like a mix of spices, sweat, and his faint woody cologne permeated your senses. “Do you think we’re soulmates?”
Mingyu set down his knife and turned around to face you, his back resting against the marble counter with his hands resting comfortably at your waist.
“What’s with the sudden question?” He quirked a well-groomed brow at you and you smiled.
“Nothing… I just read a blog about soulmates and I was curious about whether you thought they were real,” Your fingers danced along Mingyu’s strong, muscular forearms, your fingertips lightly tracing all the old scars and burn marks that signified his experience and years spent working to master his craft. You repeated your original question again. “So… do you think we’re soulmates?”
Mingyu leaned in to press a quick kiss to your lips. “I don’t think so, love. I know so.”
“Really?” Your eyes brightened at his words and he nodded.
“Mhm. I knew from the moment I saw you playing with those leftover peas on your plate that I was going to marry you,” Mingyu leaned in again, nuzzling his nose against yours. You giggled. “Sometimes, I have dreams where I knew you in another life. But those dreams felt so… real. Like they’re fragments of memories from a past I can’t recall.”
“Are we married in those dreams too?”
“Mhm. We were happily married, just like we’re going to be.” Mingyu captured your lips with his, sighing gently as your fingers combed through his dark hair.
“I love you, Mingyu.” You whispered against his lips, like a secret only meant for the two of you to know. Something to be taken and hidden away, kept a secret in the deepest depths of the earth. A secret so sacred, it can only be cherished in the deepest, darkest places so that no one else can know.
“I love you too, [Name],” Mingyu’s love confession was more bold. Something he uttered with purpose and intention. He wanted the entire universe to know that he was yours. His heart belonged to you. He was going to love you loudly and boldly. “I’ll love you in every universe. Wherever you go, that’s where I’ll follow.”
