Harry mourns for every single person he couldn't save during the war with Voldemort. When the anniversary of the final battle comes up, Harry becomes listless and disconsolate. His heart rips in a million different pieces. It's like dying a little each year.

Hermione notices, because of course she does, "Why don't you do something for them. So they still know you remember them," She gently chides. "It might help."

Harry sighs and scrubs his face roughly when Hermione leaves. It takes ten agonizing minutes to force himself off the couch, and another ten to actually figure out what he's going to do.

Harry sighs again. He pushes himself forward to fan mail. He tugs out his wand and rolls it between his hand. Harry then transfigures his simpering fan mail into dozens of gleaming, red roses. He picks them up, dutifly ignoring the pricks in his palms, and apparates to a graveyard.

That night, Harry places a rose on each of his friends' graves. Remus, Lupin, Fred and George. He visits grave after grave, trying to carve each memory of the attached name deep in his soul, so he can never forget.

His fingers are numb when he comes to his final destination. Harry feels a hollow exhaustion creeping in. He's back where it all began and where it almost ended. He takes a few steps into King's Cross Station and lets the memories of his childhood wash over him. Harry shakes his head. He came here for a reason.

He shoves himself in the far corner where he found the pitiful horcrux while he was in limbo. He gently lowers the final rose to where it used to wail. Harry doesn't mourn for Voldemort, but he does mourn for the child that his nemesis never had the chance to be. He mourned for himself.

Harry spins around and apparates away.

So yesterday something happened

It was really bad and really scary, so if you don't want to hear about that don't keep reading. WARNING: it may trigger some people's trauma, if you have trauma around people you love being hurt/really sick it may trigger that.

So, as some of you know, I have six siblings, three older and three younger. My second youngest sibling is severely disabled. She has Cornelia Delang Syndrome, which is very rare so even most doctors don't know it exists. It means she can't walk, talk, or eat, and she has heart issues.

She is 12 years old, but the size of a five-year-old. She almost died several times, (like, a lot) when she was first born. I was very young when she was born, and I don't remember it. I thought that I didn't have that much trauma around it because I was so young, I probably didn't even know what was happening. But I do.

Yesterday, she fell and hit her head. She's fine, don't worry, but she had to go to hospital. This triggered trauma I didn't even know I had, and as soon as My parents left for the hospital I had a panic attack on the floor of my room. This isn't that out of the ordinary, I have panic attacks regularly, but this one was different. I could barely move or breathe, and I thought she was going to die. I have no idea how long it lasted for. When I could, I went and had a shower to try and distract myself.

Soon after, my father came home and told us she was fine. She was already being seen at the hospital.

She's okay, and everyone's safe, but I was terrified. I didn't know if I was ever going to see my little sister again.

I love you, fics that take months to update. I click on the newest chapter and have no memory of this place and get to go back some chapters and rediscover how much i love everything about this story.

I love you, fics that take years to update. I think of you fondly, and know your names, go search for you and see an update from this year and scream, diving in uncaring of any missed details (i will finish the update and read you in reverse because this is a treat you have bestowed)

I love you, fics that probably will never update again. Thank you for being a roman empire for my mind, thank you for teaching me about the ephemeral fandom experience, for inspiring a thousand million what if-s, for being a comfort read and a nostalgia read and a reread.

there's this horrible school of attempted literary criticism on here that holds that 1. everything in any given author's work is autobiographical, especially if it seems "real" and 2. those themes seeped into the work subconsciously, revealing something about the author that they're either trying to hide or unaware of themself. it drives me up a wall, since it seems to deny the fundamental skills that make people good writers: the empathy to imagine and portray experiences that one hasn't had oneself and the ability to take one's personal emotional experiences or worldview and fold them, consciously, into the unworked clay of a narrative.
