I had Spider-Man 2 mailed to my house when I pre-ordered it and it hasn't arrived yet so I've just been spending my entire day dodging spoilery Youtube thumbnails like Tobey Maguire dodging Green Goblin's razor bats in slo-mo in that one scene.
#honestly i need to stop having games mailed to my house when i pre-order them cause it just makes it stressful to wait for them#like it just makes me nervous that they're just not gonna show up#even though that hasn't happened yet like i did the same thing with jedi survivor and mortal kombat 1 and they both arrived on the day#so like this one shouldn't be any different. ideally.#yet i get nervous about it anyway#i think part of it is these last few weeks in general have been incredibly stressful#two of the jobs i applied for got back to me at around the same time#and i gotta pick which one i wanna go forward with but i don't wanna burn bridges with either of them#so i'm basically just stringing them both along until i can pick one#and i'm still doing the online graphic design course but all the job shit is making it hard to stay caught up with that#AND i got a transaction notification for something i didn't purchase so i had to deactivate my credit card and get a new one#idk who got my credit card information or how or if i can get that money back but hopefully it doesn't happen again#basically i just need this damn game to get here on time so i'll have one less thing stressing me out#also another reason i need to stop having these games mailed to me is they always arrive in the afternoon#abd modern games take fucking forever to download onto the console#so even when you get them on the release day you gotta wait a billion hours to start playing#so when they arrive in the afternoon it basically means they won't finish downloading until well past midnight#so basically you judt gotta let it download overnight while you sleep and start it the next day#so yeah after this i should probably just go back to picking uo pre-orders at the store#especially when i get an apartment i wouldn't want the mail person just setting a $70 game on the floor outside my apartment while i'm gone#shut up tristan

Hobie Brown x Musician!Reader headcanons
While I'm writing part two for the other fic I'm writing (which should be the final part btw!) Here are some headcanons because I'm not letting this trope go as a musician.
Gn!reader, fluff, small mentions of injury but not in detail, tried to keep what instrument you play vague
Right off the bat Hobie loves jamming with you. It doesn't even have to be an actual song, it can just be the two of you going back and forth on your respective instruments. He adores just even getting to watch you play, since he finds something magical about the way you interact with the instrument.
You and Hobie go to various music stores all the time too. It can be a local record store or a small business selling music supplies and no matter what he'll buy some small gift for you. It could be some guitar strings with the promise to make you something out of his old ones when they snap, or an album that neither of you had ever heard before, but no matter what he's buying something. If it's a chain, Hobie will steal the basics needed for any instrument for you, whether it's batteries for a tuner or new drum sticks he's always able to snag you whatever you need.
At your shows, Hobie's always relatively quiet, hanging in the back, but the moment you're off the stage he's by your side telling everyone how he was so lucky to be dating the most talented musician he'd ever met. Along with that, if anyone tries to come up and flirt with you or anything after the show, he can get pretty possessive while still being happy to talk about you and your music. His arm will be around your shoulders or his hand at your waist while enthusiastically telling them about you, making sure to explicitly say you're dating more than once.
If you ever harm yourself while playing your instrument, Hobie's there as soon as he can be. He's nursing your wounds and kissing them softly while simultaneously telling you to be more careful or else it might not be fixable next time. It both drives you crazy and makes your heart skip a beat with how much he cares for you and your love of music.
If you show him the video of the couple exchanging guitars instead of rings at their wedding, he's automatically starting to search for one as a gift for you. Even if you don't play, he's more than happy to teach you. One day, a few months after you show him he appears at your doorstep out of the blue and gives you a guitar that already has some stickers on it. "I wanted to leave you space to make it your own, but also give you something of me." Is his response when you ask him about it in the future.
During his gigs, you're off to the side of the stage watching most of the time, it's not the best for the audio, most of what you can hear is the PA (The speakers used so the band can hear the music) but you prefer the seat, since between songs any time he looks side stage you know it's you he's glancing at.
Hobie constantly makes you gifts out of old or broken guitar equipment, since a big fan of upcycling things, you have more than one pick necklace for sure. However, this also means that your apartment is piled up with broken shit until he finds the time or remembers to make it, which is usually when something else breaks.
Along with the previous one, any old band t-shirts are saved to recycle the fabric for patches, and the designs get pinned to the wall to act as sound dampening for recording.

CHAPTER 2: Band. ( 2 )
——
“So now let me tell you of a story, number 7!” A girl’s voice shouted into a microphone, her voice echoing throughout the music room of a school named Kamome Academy.
“Huh, what? Future and past, the joy and sorrow.” Sang a different voice, a deeper and boyish one into a different microphone.
“Slowly spreading their shadows of a ghost storyyy!”
“Hey, hey!” The members in the background shouted, along with a line from the same backup singer, “Passion into nothing~”
“A fruit so sweet you believe it’s unreality!”
“It’s only a story~” She sang while also playing a main guitar, grazing over each string with her fingers. Even though it kinda hurt when they recoiled.. She was going to have to get a guitar pick soon.
There was another guitarist in their group, one who the main one knew as her best friend. With royal purple curls, dark brown skin, and a sweet small smile on her lips. The girl’s best friend played as the rhythm guitarist, keeping the rhythm smooth in the background. The drummer drummed with a huge smile, like they’ve always wanted to put their other talent to use in the best way possible.
“Yeah, yeah, this is the third time you’re repeating. You know what? I’ll be honest I'm no longer listeningg!” The main singer's voice was loud and high, sending shrill waves that were somehow pleasant.
“Passion into nothing~-“
“‘Cause in the end rumors bend this ugly reality!”
“- It’s only a story~!” 
Their voices overlapped each other in a good way, both the boy’s broadway vocals and the girl’s melodic voice creating music they wished to accomplish. 
Even with just two guitars, two microphones and a drummer, they were able to actually make this work. Making their first ever song as a band, ‘No.7’ in their new album ‘Rumor’.
It was a small thing they had started not too long ago, with the intention of making a big difference. No, they weren’t planning on becoming famous or anything. It would have been a cool idea, but that could wait. Until they stop another band group from spreading chaotic rumors, and get the line separating the human realm and supernatural realm from becoming crooked.
That was the reason they started this band. To, basically, prevent the end of the world. Well.. They're pretty sure..
Don’t blame them on their still half confused minds, all of them had ‘half’ separate intentions, trying to combine them into one heroic act on the matter of stopping disorder. Yashiro Nene had to pay off some ‘debt’ she owed the supernatural boy, still singing with and beside her.
 “Your words are a deadly blade, cut away the world before you, and at last break the mask of lies, revealing the truth!” Her and the supernatural’s voices sang at the same time.
“Look out, you're lonely now,” Her best friend joined in subtly for the first time.
“To stop another fall, you’ll sacrifice it all!
Can you see in between the crime and justice? 
In that great empty space, nothing should exist.
But I sense a presence, let me tell you a story-“
All of the members joined in this time, “Number 7!!”
Nene’s best friend and her soloed, now playing the same tune, loud and clear, while the drummer played subtly by banging a drum with one hand holding a stick and activating the sound of the cymbals with the other stick in hand.
The two girls carried the other mantras of lyrics, singing together in Nene’s microphone.
Akane Aoi, Nene’s closest friend since 6th grade. She agreed to join the band all because of the shocking, revealing second identity of her cousin not so long ago, and to keep by Nene’s side so she wouldn’t be through this alone. Through all the trouble regarding apparitions and rumors and musical performances they’d now be in. It was worth it to Aoi, if it was with Nene.
And her cousin, she guesses. 
The other guy was nice.
The next set of mantras belonged to Nene and the supernatural boy, and the next one being herself only. She changed the volume in her voice from a high pitched voice into a low and quiet one.
The drummer kept drumming.
“Far away, far away, beyond the edge of time I pray. I’ll remain clinging onto the edge.”
“Nothing ever changes.” Aoi joined.
“The answer it is clear, it’s drawing ever nearrrr!” Her voice picked up again, and so did the drums.
Minamoto Kou, the drummer in their small band. 
His reason for joining was to exorcize the ghost boy running this operation. He claimed to be from an ancient clan of exorcists, the Minamoto Clan, and his only purpose being to get rid of the seventh mystery of all seven mysteries of Kamome Academy. And protecting the seven’s victims, being Nene and Aoi. 
He looked to be having genuine fun drumming when Nene looked back at him, though.
The main singer and Nene started singing together again for another paragraph of lyrics. And nearing the very end of the song, the boy with the microphone and projecting vocals took control again while Nene stayed silent and played her guitar.
Hanako, was technically the reason any of them had joined together in a band in the first place. His purpose was because of his place as the seventh mystery, in charge of all the others, having to stop the supernatural chaos going around Kamome. He, nor the rest of them knew who was causing all the trouble with rumors, at least not right now. But their plan is to figure out, and continue to stop them, through music.
“But I sense a presence, let me tell a story, number 7!”
“Is there another story, number 7?” They all sung the last lines, before ending the song with a few hits of the drums and strumming of the two girl’s guitars.
When the song ended, Hanako sighed in relief, taking the microphone away from his mouth.
He turned to his band members with a grin on his face, seeing them look at each other and back at him in expectation, waiting for him to say something.
“That went great! Greater than I imagined.” He said.
Nene and Aoi looked at each other again, nodding in agreement.
“Yeah, we all did great for our first song!” Nene exclaimed.
“Nooow,” Hanako starting, walking over to the recorder they used to keep track of their music. 
“All we have to do is listen to it, edit it, and release it!”
They all gathered their things from the music room they held their band in. With the help of Hanako’s hitodama, they were able to teleport themselves to the library not so far away from the music room. In the library was where they knew their producers were, at least one of them. The middle school science teacher, Tsuchigomori, the fifth of the seventh mysteries.
‘The 4PM Library’ was dark and empty, the only one’s being in there were the teens, Tsuchigomori, and surprisingly, Yako. The second of the seventh mysteries.
Hanako played their music for the two mysteries, they all watched the movements of the adults’ ( One in fox form ) faces to guess what they were thinking throughout listening to their song.
When the recording ended, Tsuchigomori and Yako looked at each other, like they were secretly communicating while the teens were in front of them, waiting for their opinions.
The two mysteries looked over to the teens, giving each other one more side eye before snapping all of their attention to the band.
“It was good, better than I imagined.” Tsuchigomori complemented, voice slightly muffled because of the smoking pipe being in his mouth. 
Yako the fox nodded, “Yeah, surprisingly.. Amazing.”
The teenagers beamed all together, assuming they got the approval of their producers.
“Buuuut,” Yako paused the soon to be outburst of the band, stopping them from celebrating so early.
“Number 7, your singing is really good. It’s… The way you carry it, that’s the problem.” Tsuchigomori said, taking out his pipe.
“You’re tone deaf. The levels in your pitches are jumbled.” Yako broke the truth to them quickly. Tsuchigomori gave her a glance, as he thought they both wanted to pop the teens’ bubbles slowly.
The room was silent for a second, until Hanako spoke up again.
“Uh- tone.. Deaf???” 
He quickly grabbed the recorder, pressing the play button, and the song started up again. They listened to it one more time. Nene, Aoi and Kou cringed as they finally understood what Tsuchigomori and Yako were talking about.
Hanako’s a talented singer, yes. But.. He was tone deaf.
Kou face palmed.
Well, this was the soon to be start of The Toilet Band.

This actually just reminded me: Angus has either always been really good with a sword or got way better at it over the show, 'cause the timeline sorta moves like this:
Angus and Rohan vs. Ivar: Angus and Rohan get whooped when they're tied together, but then take out Ivar when they're working together
Ivar vs. Torc: on that beach, when Ivar has one of those Sentinels and Torc to deal with, Ivar eventually takes Torc out with a sword
Angus vs. Ivar: when *they* get tied together to fight to be the the Step-Queen's champion (where Maeve was playing dress-up), Angus beats Ivar
Angus vs. Garrett: we don't get to see this one, but Angus loses
Garrett vs. Rohan: they use a staff instead of a sword, and Garrett wins
Garrett vs. Ivar: Garrett wins
So basically, Angus - the guy whose main weapon is a rock on a string - is better with a sword than a trained prince on a quest from another country to get back a chalice, but not as good as Garrett, whose main weapon is being a dick.
And the reason I thought of that is 'cause the episode where Angus and Rohan have that actual, legit fight, Rohan basically tells Angus during practice that he sucks at using a sword (compared to Rohan, I mean). And hooooooly shit, that just made me realize how totally justified Angus was to be pissed off by that. I thought Rohan had a point because his main weapon is a sword, but it's actually a super low blow from the guy who lives in the exact same hut and comes from the exact same kind of childhood and to say it someone who really can hold his own against Rohan too. And that's still not even when Angus leaves!!
I love that episode in particular, and there was one part in the beginning that took me so long to figure out. Rohan just went one-man-army on a bunch of invading soldiers and the village is thanking for him it. Angus is doing his little, ":3 ya he's pretty great" hypeman thing for Rohan, and then he makes his usual joke about wanting gold from the villagers as a thank you present - and Rohan's like, ">:( Not cool, Angus." And I never got why Angus went from like, ">:( okay, wow, crabby" to "Rohan fucking sucks, he's such an asshole, I barely want to be at this stupid ceremony thing" and brooding in the corner. It seemed like such a whiplash of tone, but I blamed it on being a kids' show and went along with it and just assumed Angus was kinda picking a fight for the sake of the plot. Out-of-character, but whatever.
Then I realized how innocuous Angus' joke about gold is - like, he says that all the time, and he's only ever half-serious (lol). But Rohan went full "You're such a child, be better" on him, and it's kinda... not the first time by that point...? But it's the most openly scolded Angus has ever been from someone who's been on the same level this whole time.
So all of that, and for Rohan to actually say in front of Conchobar later that Angus started it is sooooo fucking rich - let alone that ":( What's wrong with Angus lately, he's so touchy these days" line later. I totally get now why Angus walked off. But he STILL HASN'T LEFT YET, 'cause he only actually leaves once Rohan starts shittalking him behind his back about stealing shit. And I can't believe how I misunderstood the episode, 'cause I just assumed it was one of those 'Both sides were wrong, let's just move on' episodes. But no - Rohan was the antagonist in that completely, and it's a little bullshit that Angus (who has to come back from rightfully leaving to save Rohan's ass) is like, ":/ It's fine. That's just what friends do. You're still my favourite" at the end.
The disrespect 😭 Especially when you realize these two were poor peasant kids and that Angus is always obsessed with food as much as gold, and it's like, "Dude, why do you think all that stealing happened?"
So I'm gonna be cheeky and disagree with you by saying, "Yes, he gives people back what he gives them... unless it's Rohan, in which case Angus just puts up with it until he finally explodes, and then he looks like the hotheaded one".
😌 well, there's our angst
And on the 100th time of watching Mystik knights if tir na nog, im starting to ship deidre and angus literally going insane about how angus called her attractive when he thought she couldnt hear him and deidre calling him a handsome idiot when he was not around and dkdfbkfbgkf
They are the only characters with actual romantic Set up from the beginning and the show wants to tell me the end goal is deidre and rowen? No fucking way.
Give me the princess in love with the thief, with the smart orphan that hides behind making a fool of himself and is also an idiot. The thief in love with a princess who thinks he'll never have a chance with her anyway.
I would have never thought i'd ship it so hard one day

Alright allow me to overanalyze on Asa Emory’s character, if you don’t mind... 
THE COLLECTOR AND HIS DOGS

Basically this is just me nerding out over dogs and the life of having working dogs also the connection Asa might have to them, so don’t mind me. Now if you do not know I am a person who owns 3 dogs myself, is a big dog lover, have worked with many many different types and characters of dogs, and also follow different sports and clubs with dogs involved. So from experience and research this is where I get this info I'm gonna share ;) hope you enjoy my ted talk🔪💕
In the first movie The Collector Asa has a German Shepard chained up outside the home, using it as a first of many strings in protection. Later on in the movie you get a better look at the dog and what it can do; searching and wanting to lock onto a target, any target. Now this is different from protection work and leads more into a German dog sport called schutzhund. This sport is the ability to test just how good your working dog is at working, it is based from protection work, to tracking, to obedience, to bite. 
This training style is very severe in some cases, and this is what the police use for their training more often than not. It takes a very particular person to have dogs in this sport, even if it is just for fun. And we all know just how particular Asa is lol. 
Now who is the type of person to put their dogs into this? A very interesting one. First of all, anyone who is really into this work will hand pick the type of dog they want, from breed to working lines (meaning how well the dogs parents did in competition, as well as how the breeder is with other dogs). Now you can choose as well where you get these dogs from, could be from Europe to America doesn’t matter, it is up to the soon to be owners choice. Either way these dogs are expensive and need heavy hours set into them to achieve the level of training Asa has his dogs working on, and even more so in the second movie by working together. These people often have a huge thing with power and control, which we already know from Asa, but also they usually need/have extreme self-discipline wanting to be perfect in every aspect, could be a dogs position next to you if they aren’t as close that gets you fucked up because they could not defend you properly. Everything needs to be flawless. 
With all this work, self-discipline and control it can be extremely rewarding, especially for Asa in this case to see someone get their face ripped off, it is in his sadistic nature. Even having the dogs presence is often enough to intimidate anyone, in a lot of police work situations people will flee or hide somewhere if they know it is just a single officer, but once the dog gets brought in people more than likely surrender, fast and easy. If anyone of Asa’s collection pieces chooses to run or hide, the dogs can sniff out where they go, they can out run people and will bite, at least without the dogs people could have a chance. Another good thing about dogs is that they alert, if Asa is working and the dogs bark he will know exactly where that person is easily. 
So to overview what I just rambled about before getting into the next topic, Asa is a very control oriented person, needing to have power over something and be very strategic in doing so. Getting off on the intimidation and fear factor of his victims, and even more so when people get bit. These dogs are also for his own protection, caring about himself and his beautiful collection first, and maybe even caring for the double life he leads more. It also can make Asa’s life easier, not having to always make the kill himself, and this leads me to believe that it isn’t really the kill that gets him off, it is the chase, the skill he has taken and the victims skill of getting away that drives him. Almost uses the dogs in more annoyance just because people aren’t dying and getting in his way or messing with his stuff. I mentioned skill a sentence back and I want to bring it up again because I think it’s important; Asa can appreciate the skill of his victims, it makes it more thrilling but also I think he has a deep appreciation for his dogs skills, being extremely hard working and intelligent creatures, like himself and some victims. Now with the thing about Asa taking his favorites, he is trying to find the right one, the perfect one, making more sense for him to have dogs, Asa can mold his perfect dog, using only working dogs, dogs that love to please and want to be perfect for you.            
Now moving on to the next topic - Connections. So this could go two ways, a good way and a bad, no in between. The majority of people grow extreme bonds with their dogs, especially their working dogs, all the hours you put into the training and you have to trust your dog and they have to trust you. In the military specifically dogs build one of the strongest connections with the soldiers, they are their comfort because they see the same things and yet still have a wagging tail, they can save each others lives, protect one another and appreciate each other deeply for skill and for love. Now there are other people, most common in police work because the dogs can sometimes be too intense or have certain contracts but, these people don’t take their dogs home or when they are home they stay in one room or kennel mostly. Sometimes there are dogs that just can’t adapt to home life and just want to work, but sometimes they can make wonderful family and house dogs. At the same time it is up to the owner choosing what they want for the dog. 
Something strikes me with Asa that he genuinely loves his dogs but at the same time some of his actions make me think twice. In the first movie the dog is chained up away from the dangerous traps of the inside, he is protecting the dog at first, but moving along in the movie he releases the dog into the home going after Arkin. Now this is the dogs job mind you, so Asa trusts him, but also you can see a lot of traps or dangers have been removed so the dog can work safely and knows the dog is smart enough to avoid some of the obvious traps. He lets him work but also wants to help the dog, perhaps not wanting the dog to get seriously hurt or maybe just finally finishing Arkin off. Also the scene where Asa is outside and calls off the dog when he is biting a guy, again maybe for safety of the pet maybe just to watch the man struggle. Ultimately the dog dies in the first one, but Asa watches very carefully when the dog is going after Arkin, and there is almost a ‘sadness’ or maybe curiosity to Asa’s face, and I think he knows in that moment his dog is sadly dead. 
In The Collection you don’t see the dogs really work that much, you only see them barking at Abby then barging in the room with Asa, so it is hard to really see any connections. From both movies I would say Asa takes the dogs with him for the most part, takes them to ‘jobs’ and brings them to the hotel. Now at the hotel it is important to notice the dogs do not have free range or else we would see them probably a lot more. My best guess is that Asa cares for the dogs and doesn’t want them getting hurt by his traps until he knows who the people are, that’s when he loses it, literally going in all guns a blazing. When he does bring the dogs out they are only with him, aka his control and protection side coming out. Now in this scene Asa has an assault rifle that he uses in tandem with the dogs, but I noticed carefully watching the scene, Asa never shoots towards the dogs, he lets them work, again trusting them deeply, if he did shoot around not caring for them the bullets would have defiantly hit Arkin and wounded him or killed him. Of course after this scene we don’t really get to see Asa in any sort of grief, (which I really wanted lol) he is just busy trying to kill everyone else and not get caught by the cops. 
Then in the final scene of The Collection we see Asa’s home, this is like months after the events at the hotel from what I can tell, but we see no dogs, not a trace. Simply he maybe could not have gotten anymore dogs since his collection was destroyed and he doesn’t really need dogs to protect his stuff any longer, or maybe Asa did not find new dogs that he wanted yet, or just maybe they were locked in the house away in a room, keeping his house spotless. Who knows it is all up to the person watching, I don’t think they expected a dog crazy person to be diving this deep lol.
So my final thoughts. I personally think Asa really likes his dogs and they bring him good company and something to have power over in his regular life. Once you have a dog, especially dogs that take so much work and training time it is very hard for people to just stop having dogs. Also being a biologist I think he can deeply appreciate them for their intelligence and skill. If anyone says Asa would like cats you can fuck off because look what happened to the cat in the first movie, it was clumsy and got itself killed, plus look at his house, not a thing knocked over lol, a cat would never do for him.     At eleven years old you had already had far too many near-death experiences, for you that meant one. You hadn’t meant to do anything at all, well except grab some snacks from the kitchen after hours, but it wasn’t anything you hadn’t done before. On your way back your ears had picked up a sweet symphony and you had grown curious. 
Turning a few unfamiliar corners you found the room, its heavy door ajar. You pushed it all the way open, a pastry still stuffed in your mouth preventing you from screaming. A large three-headed beast lay in front of you snoring loudly. Before you could turn and run your eyes found a small wooden trap door at its feet. The phrase your mother often scolded you with echoed in your head, Curiosity killed the cat. You about turned on your heel but then the ending of the saying learned from an equally mischievous classmate came to you, But satisfaction brought it back. 
You dropped the food in your hands and walked hesitantly towards the large dog. You then quietly opened the door, cringing as its hinges squeaked and peered inside being met with complete darkness. You were going to close the door retrieve your treats then head back to your dorm but as you turned you met a pair of brilliantly green eyes and you let out a yelp before stumbling backward and plunging into the hole with a scream. You were soon followed by three of your classmates almost as confused as you were. 
You ended up getting your arm broken by a giant chess piece on your way to retrieve something you didn’t fully understand and what you believed to be a curse began. 
You sat up in a cold sweat the image of a white stone queen drawing her sword waking you with a start. You rubbed your eyes only to find your left arm in a sling and aching a bit.
“Oh, good you’re awake.”
You turned to your right to see a little boy in round glasses smiling at you. “What happened last night?” you asked eyes wide.
“It’s a long story, but I suppose we have time.” He shrugged, “Jelly slug?” he offered holding out a colorfully wrapped package. 
“Yes please.”
Second year began as normal as it should have but it was soon strange and dangerous, pearlized classmates and strict rules making the school feel less and less like a home. Of course, your luck being about as bad as it got, you where the last victim of the basilisk. 
You had been polishing trophies to serve detention which you got for supposedly bad-mouthing Snape although it wasn’t your fault Draco was a filthy snitch. You then saw a large pair of yellow eyes in the shining metal and everything went dark.
You woke up four days later body aching eyes feeling extremely dry as you blinked vigorously. You had a strange sense of deja vu as the hospital wing soon came into view. Head once again thumping as you tried to recall your memories. 
“Oh right, you're here.”
You turned your head to the right to see a wide smile, green eyes hidden behind round glasses as cuts riddled the boy’s face. 
“Merlin Harry, what happened to you?” You gasped taking in his battered form. 
He shrugged, “I fought Voldemort.”
You cringed at the name but said nothing of it to him, “Again?” 
He laughed, “Yeah, this time it hurt more though.” 
“I’m glad you’re okay.” You grinned at him.
His cheeks reddened a bit, “Yeah, I’m glad you’re okay too.” 
You fell into an uncomfortable silence before Harry reached to his bedside table and offered you a tissue-wrapped box, “Jelly Slug?” 
You nodded taking it from him
Third-year had been downright dreadful for you. You were finally a teenager which basically meant everything that had been easy and quick now seemed to take hours and far too much thought. Every little thing you did you were sure would be scrutinized, it didn’t help when a close friend of yours spread a nasty rumor about you and you found yourself skipping classes and opting to stay in bed. A serial killer being on the loose certainly didn’t help. 
The only sort of decent thing that happened was your friendship with Harry, after two times of healing in the hospital wing together you decided to be at least acquaintances. You held study sessions with the boy and occasionally his two best friends although all they did was bicker.  
You also happened to be outside reading when a rat lept on you and dove down your shirt leading to you being dragged into a tree by a dog who turned out to be a serial killer who turned out to be Harry’s godfather. But to be honest you didn’t really care.
You were absolutely livid, your leg was torn apart and for the third time in a row you had somehow been shoved into an adventure you most certainly didn’t want to take part in and you were bleeding heavily because of it. 
Oh yes, how could you forget? You were also almost killed by your professor, who had turned into a werewolf just in time to almost kill you again. 
When you woke up in the hospital wing with the golden trio surrounding you, you weren’t so pleasant.
A string of foul curse words, pointing fingers and yelling was shot at the three teens who apologized profusely insisting they did not mean to get you caught up in their business. 
You eventually calmed down and found out it wasn’t all that bad considering you got to see the suddenly very attractive dark-haired boy who made a point to spend all of his free time in the hospital wing with you as your leg healed. You shared a large amount of jelly slugs as you read muggle books and did your best to stay on top of studies.
Fourth year was much better than the last. You and Harry spent more and more time together and you felt a large crush on the boy who lived growing. Hermione knew about it instantly and Ron seemed adamant to tease both of you just for the joy of watching your faces flush. But good things never lasted.
You had a heart attack when Harry’s name came out of the goblet and found yourself taking his side in a sudden war between him and Ron. The bitch of a journalist Rita Skita also plastered you and Harry’s face all over the daily prophet when she caught you hugging him before his first task. You went with Harry to the ball although to both of your disappointment only as friends. And you ended up comforting Hermione in the hallway anyway. 
You also were almost drowned by your sorry excuse for teachers in the second task. Never one to back down from a fight you yelled directly at Dumbledor and Karkaroff saying how if your name wasn’t pulled out of that idiotic goblet than you shouldn’t have to almost die for the even more idiotic tournament. Of course, you did this with a very colorful vocabulary that landed you three weeks of detention. 
When Harry pulled Cedric from the maze you had cheered clapping along with the band until suddenly you heard the boy wail like a wounded animal. You raced down to meet him and helped pull him off of the elder boy’s body.
He was shaking the entire time and when you finally managed to drag him away he buried his head into your neck and sobbed. 
Harry was then dragged away by Mad-Eye and you were quick to follow, bursting in on the two just as Moody no longer became Moody. 
“Harry!” You yelled diving at the quickly transforming man who was holding him at wand point. 
Your body suddenly erupted in such harsh pain you thought you might throw up. 
“Y/n!” Harry’s yells fell on deaf ears as the unforgivable curse took all of your attention. 
By the time Harry was able to disarm the man, you had passed out from the pain. 
You woke up in the hospital wing three days later a disheveled Harry seated in a chair next to you his arms folded on your bed his head resting on them. 
When you tapped his shoulder lightly he jolted awake immediately engulfing you in his embrace sobbing out apologies as you pushed yourself closer into his chest. 
“I’m so so sorry y/n, I never meant for you to be caught up in any of this.” He choked out pulling away from you and cupping your face in his hands. 
“It’s okay Harry, I’m okay.” You spoke smiling weakly feeling extremely exhausted. 
“But he used an unforgivable cu-” 
“I don’t care, I’m just happy you’re okay.” You interrupted leaning into the soft circles his thumb was drawing on your cheek.
Harry’s eyes filled with an unidentifiable emotion and suddenly his lips were on your own. 
The second they connected he backed away blushing so heavily you were sure he was hot to the touch.
“I’m so sorry y/n, I don’t know what I was thinking and I-”
You only shook your head and wrapped your hands around his neck bringing his lips back to yours. His hands ended up on either side of you as you leaned back down on the bed bringing him with you. He hovered over you, your tongue slipping into his mouth as you played with the ends of his hair. He tasted overly sugary with a hint of fruit, just like a jelly slug.
You were interrupted by a cough followed by a low chuckle and Harry immediately pulled away from you and you turned to see not only your headmaster but Professor McGonagal and Madame Pomfrey all staring at you. 
Your eyes went wide and you felt so hot you thought you might catch the sheets on fire. You stole a glance at Harry who had paled dramatically, looking sick. 
“I’m glad you’re feeling better y/n.” Dumbledore chortled. 
You hissed in at the pain that shot through your ankle. Your head had also begun to pound causing you to squeeze your eyes shut and attempt to relieve the pressure by pressing onto your temples. Fuck Umbridge. You hopped that bitch was dead, as your eyes began to adjust to the sudden brightness of your surroundings you saw an all to a familiar sight. The hospital wing had become your home away from home and now in fifth year you, it made sense you ended up there once again. 
When your psychotic headmaster dragged you, your boyfriend and your two best friends out to the forbidden forest as she was attacked by a giant she managed to hit you with some sort of spell which effectively left you in your current state. Harry who was seated beside you wrapped his arms around your waist and placed a kiss on your neck.
“You okay?” He asked he seemed stressed, then again when wasn’t he?
“I’m fine.” You lied with a smile pushing his glasses back up his nose. 
“I think you should stay here y/n/n, I can’t have you getting hurt.”  He frowned. You then took notice of the group of teenagers was behind him. They were clearly about to leave. 
“I think history has proven that kind of unavoidable at this point.” You sighed standing up and drinking whatever was on your nightstand, it turned out to be a pain medicine that tasted the equivalent of dragon piss. 
“Y/n...” Harry spoke hesitantly.
You turned to look at your boyfriend, your face set in stone. “If you don’t take me with you I will find another way to that building.” 
Harry sighed biting down on his lip, “Fine. Alright, guys, let’s go.”
Your lips twitched into a smile just as you were about to leave the room you noticed a small half-empty bag on the table next to your bed, you stuffed it into your pocket and ran after the group you had fallen behind. 
You sat silently eyelids feeling so heavy you thought they might close at any moment. Your entire body ached, your headache coming back stronger than ever, but you didn't let onto your pain. 
Harry had his head buried into your stomach as you combed through his messy hair, his sobs were the only sound in the massive black room. Sand was scattered around you as you clung to your boyfriend your back up against a black glass wall as you stared blankly ahead of you. Dumbledore stood a few feet away, seeming almost as lost as you were. Part of you hated him for putting Harry through everything he had just been through, but you knew it wasn’t his fault. 
Harry adjusted himself so his head was buried into the crook of your neck, his arms wrapped around your waist. The movement caused something in your pocket to crinkle, catching your attention. 
You reached into your robe and removed a half-empty bag of candy. You smiled in spite of yourself. 
You tapped Harry on the shoulder whispering his name. He looked up at you his eyes rimmed in red, his face blotchy, the sight made your heart throb.
“Jelly Slug?” You asked your voice cracking.
The boy let out a mix between a laugh and a sob before lightly placing his lips onto your own. He tastes salty and bitter, like tears and blood. You found yourself wishing you were elven again when everything was simple, wishing that Harry still tasted like jelly slugs.

It dosnt take long for a full friendship to form between you two, only took a few minutes of that. You were having really enjoyable conversations until twice came backstage and mina saw you two together...

They walk to their dressing room followed by their managers. I turn back to Jungkook who seems taken back by mina expression.

Once mina came back out she sat on a near by couch on her phone, even though its obvious she's watching us.

Before I could even open my mouth I was being pulled by someone into a different room.

"You. Are. Not. Allowed. To. Go" mina says taking a slight pause in between each word.
Mina somehow glares even harder before deciding to relax and walk out of the room. It takes me a minute to realise what had happened before returning to reality.
I smack my head lightly before heading outside to apologise to jungkook once again. One problem though... I can't see him. I wonder around until I see Jimin and V together laughing about some random things.
I waltz up to them with a tight-lipped smile. "urm, guys gave you seen Jungkook anywhere?"
They both point towards his dressing room. "ouh, okay thanks" I wqlk over, now standing outside of his dressing room, waiting until I hear a slight thud come from within.
I knock on the door making it just about auditable for him to hear. The door creeks open just a tad. "oh, y/n?" Jungkooks voice comes out as more of a whimper than anything else.
"y-yeah, look I'm sorry about Mina once again I hav-"
"no its alright I just can't speak to you right now" he interrupted.
"why not?"
"Min-I-I mean... I'm getting dressed and I'm in a huge hurry" with that he closes the door and locks it. I release a huge sigh before heading off to find Mina. I need answers as to why she's suddenly like this.
Whilst I marched down the halls like a drummer would do, I notice a particular penguin gritting her teeth whilst on her phone.
I snach the phone from her hands and place it on the small coffee table before looking back to her.
I glare at her, this time I have the upper advantage. "what now y/n?"
"what now? What now? Are you fricking kidding me Mina? First you glare at everything me and Jungkook do together, then you pull me away to practically tell me to not go near him then when I refuse to, you personally tell him to do it in a threatening manner. Jungkook sounds petrified and now you asking me 'what now'?" I respond in an even more p!ssed way than she did earlier.
"look y/n, if you didn't go near him then none of this would have happened. I'm just trying to explain that you and him aren't a good mix, not even semi-good. You two are too touchy and laugh at almost everything and anything the other says" mina is now standing up, looking me dead in the eye.
"I'm just trying to protect our relationship y/n" Mina adds
"that's the issue, when you try to protect something you over do it. You take it to far, you threatened the idol. I'm quite sure this is bullying Mina, I've lost my cute and cuddly penguin to a overprotective shark" I huff as I walk past mina and into my own changing room.
When I cqme out if the room, I could see Jungkook with his members laughing about nonsense and mina asleep on the couch with a worried look plastered onto her elegant face.
I walk up to Mina and look down upon her with a smile, I still love her no matter what she is, a ravenous shark or timid penguin.
She was still your mina.
Sure, you could say jungkook is most definitely dark tall and handsome and definitely dreamy in every way possible but you knew that he couldn't out shine Mina. Imara does have a slight complex about being a twin because she feels like Rukiya is the cooler one despite people loving her too. She's loud and boisterous basically a chad, but better. She's dorky and literally spends her free time gaming but she doesn't just play any game shes v specific when it comes to that. Her mom always has a headache because of her but thats okay but in the end her mom loves her to death.

tbh I legit cannot pick a bias, I love them all. I could go on a mini essay for each member about how much I love them. I love them loving each other!
Thanks for your b-side breakdown! It's exactly what I wanted to hear. And don't apologize for writing something lengthy! I'm the same, and I love to read everything, so it's really nice to find a kindred spirit! Give me those essays!
"Lose Yourself"-- I love this song a lot and I'm glad someone else does too. That's funny, liking "Like This" too much! But yeah, it goes hard and makes you Feel Things, hence it being probably my fav PTG song. And I agree, Shinwon needs to write more music! "Worship U" is so good, it could have been a title track if it had been on another album. I keep forgetting to put "Dazzling" on my ipod, so I haven't listened to it very much. I should rectify this. You seem to favor the Japanese tracks, haha! Do you speak it, or is it just coincidence?
You know what's funny, I didn't really like any Triple H stuff...I'm sorry Hui and Dawn...but I'm glad that it was a gateway to PTG for you!
I really applaud you for giving Pentagon a second chance and trying a second song. So many people out there would only listen to one track and then drop the group if they hated it. I can see how past you hated "Humph!," it's got a very simple melody with a basic repeated motif.
omg, "Can You Feel It" also made me a PTG convert! At least, music-wise. The decision to stan Pentagon as people/a group came after that. Summer 2020, some friends were visiting me and they were playing a bunch of k-pop, which was something I hadn't been into for years. So I was like, "Yeah, maybe I should get back into this, can you make me a rec list?" So one friend made me a playlist and I played it at work on YT for like 3 months. Ironically, there was no Pentagon on there, but PTG was connected to a bunch of other groups on the rec list, plus RTK had just happened, so PTG kept showing up on the suggested videos list on the side. I don't know what song I listened to first, but I remember "Violet" was one of the first ones, and I wasn't into it. But once I listened to "Can You Feel It," it was all over. I must have listened to that song like 5 times in a row at work (I usually hate listening to a song on repeat) and actually started searching out their music instead of just casually picking them out from the suggested videos. But then one day I saw the performance video for "Shine," and my life changed. They looked so happy! They were actually enjoying themselves and having fun! They were shouting along with the music and laughing with each other! It was so different from all the other groups I had seen in their performance/dance practice videos. Like, Pentagon members were *real people,* not just performers. And that's when I fell in love and actually started stanning them. I immediately started watching all content I could find of them on YT and began to memorize their faces and names. And now here we are, hahaha!
(I like plenty of other groups' music, but I don't try to learn members' names or watch their non-MV content. That's the difference for me.)
So in the continued string of coincidences, I think we both became Unis around the same time XD

My favoring the Japanese tracks may have to do with the fact that I like the sound of J-pop music or maybe the fact that I’m half Japanese 🤠 As for my speaking it, hahahaha funny you should ask 😅 So my mother never taught me Japanese or spoke it around me because she didn’t know that I’d be able to learn it alongside English. She thought I would get confused and that it would hinder my own English. She’s trying to teach me now as a teenager but it’s a very slow process. However I will admit that I get ecstatic when I’m able to read a sentence written in the language (albeit a really short sentence with basic Kanji characters)
Oh that’s interesting, I actually love 365 Fresh and Retro Future is good as well, I haven’t heard any other song from them, though. Even so, the music can never compare to how Hui looked. OH HOW I MISS TRIPLE H HUI SO

And thank you! That’s what I usually do when it comes to listening to new groups. If I hear a song a like I need to hear other songs to see if I actually like the group’s music, or just that one song. Same with if I don’t like the first song I hear.
Yessssss Can You Feel It was the moment. I also remember not vibing with Violet the first time I heard it. Once again I’m fine with it now, but I might skip it if it comes on the playlist 😬
Can I just say that Pentagon was the first group with a lot of members I tried to stan, so learning their faces was so hard 😭 Blackpink is what got me into Kpop in 2019 and they were the only group I listened to before Pentagon. I, for the life of me, could not stop mixing up Hyunggu and Hongseok. The only way I could tell them apart was because Hongseok was tanner, so if the lighting in a video was weird it was all over for me. Then I realized that Hongseok had a longer neck, so that helped. On the other hand Shinwon, Hui, Dawn, and Wooseok I could identify right away. Shinwon has a fox like face, Hui has a very straight (almost Greek) nose, almost every time I saw Dawn he had bleach blond hair, and Wooseok has wide eyes and a bigger nose. I would actually like to know, if you remember, who you had trouble identifying and who were easy for you? I always find that different people have have trouble with different Kpop idols which is interesting.
I actually don’t really indulge myself with content from other groups. Sometimes I’ll listen to songs from other groups, for example God’s Menu by Stray Kids is staying on my playlist even though all I know about the group is that there’s a guy named Felix. Also while we’re on the topic, who else do you listen to? I consider myself stans of girl groups Blackpink, Wooah, StayC, and Twice (I just started getting into the last two), boy groups TO1 and Kingdom, and I go HARD FOR KARD!!! Pentagon happens to be my ult group, though.

like? i honestly don't get people (haters and those who stopped watching) who say spn has bad writing? of course not ever episode will be as good, but for a show at it's THIRTEENTH season the writing hasn't let up at all (it's just more simplified), sfter all those years i still find the dialogue utterly fascinating. i really don't get it but maybe i'm just biased :/
Yeah, and the thing is the show has gradually moved from what was good writing for season 1 or 4 or whatever, to whatever makes it still work after 8 or 13 seasons… 
Like, the internal mirroring in season 1? It’s there, it’s good, there’s a lot more than you think and you’d basically have to watch the season twice, once forwards and once backwards as soon as you’re done before you forget all the little details to catch all the stuff. I mean there’s some things which are obvious like the Mary and Jess dying either end of their episode things. And then there’s stuff like 1x09 and 1x17 both having Sam and Dean obsessed with drawing something that they’re trying to capture on a piece of motel notepaper or whatever. Little motifs that barely mean anything but give a sort of coherency and nod to earlier writing, which is basically just stuff you do to assure the viewer there’s a sense of having things under control. 
Cycle all the way up to season 13 and you can have so many nuanced references going on that just the MotW in 13x05 mirrors 5 different season 1 episodes, a season 8 main arc thing, a random season 11 motw, or 7x19 even, for the house full of ghosts thing… and probably some other stuff I can’t even remember now, and that’s before we get to the main plot half, and the emotional arcs. And those references aren’t just in there as a competency check, but because it means stuff and it’s relevant. The parallel to Lucas the mute kid in 1x03 who Dean related to? SUPER RELEVANT to his emotional state now. For like the entire season we’ve had 1x02′s “saving people, hunting things” speech lurking around in Dean’s actions visibly decayed and broken from its original meaning. 1x10 was visually referenced and that is important because of the Sam and Dean at odds stuff, and some of their most important yelling at each other about how they see each other and how John affected them and how they see John through each other happened there, all of which is being recycled in how they’re treating Jack. I could keep going but point is, the writing is good surface viewing, and a really rich soup of past canon references for people who want to analyse it, because just showing they understand the story they’re telling is a huge sign of good writing, and makes me confident to assume they do mean basically everything they imply. 
But on the other hand in season 1 you can really feel scared and alone and confused and like the entire universe around them is too big and filled with evil and they’re small and incompetent and just want to find their dad and go home, and that aesthetic is excellent, but you can’t keep going with that past even season 1, so they start to get more people in their lives, even just passing acquaintances at first, and a couple of settled locations. And the story can’t just be the same simple goals over and over again or what’s the point in setting up a big looming battle between good and evil from the very start if it’s just escalating and deescalating clashes with a few important demons, a 4 episode per season main arc about family, and then a bunch  of monster hunts? For one thing they’d run out of hunts :P So more plot, more characters, and it all starts eroding the original aesthetic because better writing for what they’re working with means abandoning what originally made the show good because it can NEVER make the show good again IN THAT WAY.
And by season 6 the mytharc is all concluded, and you basically have to pick the show up and turn it around, and start telling it all backwards, and make it personal instead, because not only is escalating threat meaningless after the victory in season 5, but they have a massive world full of characters and resources and KNOWLEDGE and you can’t have the Winchesters alone against the world. There’s jokes about how in season 1 they wouldn’t know a vampire if it bit them on the arse but then in season 8 Dean just goes and clears a house of them out for his vampire BFF. Or season 1 Dean vs demons and then just cut to him and Crowley drinking together. Like… it’s experience and competence and also just the story can’t maintain itself if it never explores new avenues where monsters stop being scary for being monsters and start being scary for what they say about the characters… Which 2x03 does for Dean, and everything since has been post-picking up the story and turning it around. I mean, that can happen at any point really, but the season 1 approach to monsters was completely unsustainable because they’d run out of monsters. Look at how werewolves never came back until season 8 and when they did, Robbie retconned the crap out of them so they could be used in different stories. Werewolves who transform unknown to themselves and can be monsters without ever knowing it? Are good for like 1 story only, and that was the one they told in Heart. And until you suck it up and retcon it, you can NEVER use werewolves even as incidental monsters. We didn’t even see them in season 6. 
And all these changes are happening all the time, and bit by bit things like “can’t have the Winchesters without any reoccurring side characters to help/hinder them” and “monsters aren’t all evil” and “escalate the mytharc at least a notch higher than previously or start over but make it personal” and all these changes happen one at a time for good reasons, until you end up with a show which looks nothing like the original one but still has its DNA. It’s just grown up into an adult version of itself that can carry its own weight. And that’s good long-form writing.
I don’t actually think the writing has simplified, it’s just behaving in a different way now. Season 1 and 2 were pretty raw and full of character dynamic stuff but the main plot was very simple and tropey because it could afford to be because the show was a bunch of world building and a focus on the MotW episodes, and the main plot was a bonus and a mystery to string us through episode to episode, so the main pull WAS the character stuff between Sam and Dean as an identifying feature of the show. But you can’t tell that story over and over where they don’t know what’s happening and it never comes near them until shit hits the fan. For one thing, they blew all their cards ages ago on things seeded into their life from birth that they had no idea about but were always fated to happen, unless there’s something that happened to Dean that’s just been idly ticking away waiting for him to hit 40 for him to be slapped with some ancient curse Millie Winchester activated poking around with artefacts Henry brought home from work or something. Again, once the demon blood reveal comes you basically pick up the show, turn it around, and start telling in the other direction from the build up to that reveal, and we’re still going in that same direction that Sam’s been reacting to since 2x21. That’s the hugest thing to happen in their family history in terms of plot so everything has to loop around that somehow, and new reveals are just “why” ones not “what” ones, in 4x03 and 5x13.
The show the hardcore original couple of seasons fans are longing for is one that wrote itself out of existence with its OWN good writing. Sam and Dean DEMANDED more characters to interact with to show more facets of themselves and for them to be challenged, so they got Ruby and then Cas. The plot was rolling along building up steam so excitingly that it COULD go to an epic fated apocalypse, and sell that our guys were the ones caught in the middle and ready to save the world. They weren’t the same dweebs as season 1. 
And instead you get this INCREDIBLE character writing… Like, Sam and Dean leap off the page as it were right from the start, and without them being good characters the show would never have amounted to anything because Sam and Dean was all the show depended on to start with. And it’s still going on their charisma and chemistry, but it’s FAR from all that now. They get characters thrown at them to see what sticks, and increasingly characters begin to stick. Characters would basically never be seen again originally. And then a few began to show up over and over after Bobby and then the Roadhouse lot, and season 3 had a whole bunch of actual reoccurring characters and stuff like surprise returns for the Trickster or whatever - things that began to make it feel like the world was populated with more than the Winchesters. And by season 8 when the narrative shifts to being primarily character-based and action driven, repeat characters are allowed to show up and stay in ways that they never would have in the past. You get in season 8 Garth, Kevin and Charlie all coming back since season 7 first appearances, Cas and Crowley get their first season they’re actually both in all the way through at the same time, and then there’s repeat characters introduced in that season for its story. Amelia and Benny, and Abaddon and Metatron. It’s CROWDED. The Winchesters are being defined by the people around them and it’s how they react and make their decisions that affects the story. Which allows for delving right down into them and doing masses of character building because all the plot stuff is affected by character things.
And I think Destiel gets so compelling around this time because the shift to emotional storytelling means it’s less what they do and more how what they do affects them and each other. Everyone’s getting defined more by the people around them but Cas and Dean have this whole weird profound thing going already. 
As we go through all that the story becomes more and more self-reflective. 6x01 and 8x01 both reboot the story in weird various ways, going back to the pilot for inspiration. 6x01 just again is about picking up the story and turning it around and telling it in another direction, but 8x01 gets really meta about it… Dabb era snuck up on us because it starts somewhere in the middle-end of season 11, but the end of season 11 is another pick up and turn around moment, but instead of re-telling it begins to completely deconstruct and break down everything that the story had been previously defined by. Which means in many ways the drift back to trying to tell simpler episodes with season 1 themes and style makes it look simpler, but after you stick out 12 years of the show and then get to it, if you look at what they’re doing, part of the reason why the episodes feel SO good, is because there’s a deep intelligence to it all, at least in storytelling terms. Finding what is fresh by taking the things which are worn down and tiresome and trying to do something with them. Subtly, in season 12… A bit louder for the people in the back in season 13 :P But there’s a clever purpose behind it, and the episodes are engaging for other reasons and as a bonus we’re seeing the characters in ways we haven’t really seen them before. Or as we haven’t seen them for a long long time. 
I think a lot of intelligence in good writing is not forgetting the beginning of the story halfway through or at the end or anything. Which is a serious problem when the show is so long. It’s why you sometimes get lines like in 5x21 where Sam and Dean have an exchange where they talk about remember when we used to just hunt Wendigo (*takes a shot*) or in 12x06 why that was the monster they had that game about… It’s meta commentary for mentioning it to go back to the start, to examine their lives (as we were doing to Asa) and remember how it all began. To get a sense of context and continuity that these are the same guys from the start of the show, who have been through *all that* and are still here, being themselves, in their further adventures. 
I think the style has obviously, necessarily, changed a lot but I don’t think it’s simplified anywhere, just that the changes and evolution it’s been through means that the way it’s told now is different, in this case blending nostalgia with trying to convince us we need to keep watching, still, after 13 years, for some of the weird ideas they have going forwards… I think that involves a LOT of character emphasis like being able to take most of 13x01 to mourn Cas when we know he’s coming back, or this whole grief arc, really. Or look at the evolution of Dean worrying about Cas in season 8, 11 and 12 when he’s missing/possessed and how each time it was significantly louder and more important as what Dean was dealing with and how it was affecting him and how important it was to the narrative as a whole. It’s like someone saying a sentence over and over but repeating it with different emphasis. And louder. And the longer the show goes on the less it can rely on one type of telling and the more it has to rely on the other, although I sort of feel like season 13 is hitting a point where I’m not sure where else they GO from here :P 
It’s flipped right back to season 1 in a way, that there’s very little “main plot” intruding on them, right now, except via grief or having Jack around, which of course just elicits a bunch more character development and emotional arc stuff. But the entire history and complexity of the show is still there, so a regular MotW can turn into a chat with Death, who talks to Dean about cosmic matters. Their world is never not going to be huge now after it’s been escalated so far, but on the other hand, you can go back to that season 1 feeling where character development was basically all they had lying around… It’s all massively complex, but on a sublime lower level to what’s going on in the main plot. 
Same as last year, the plot stuff all just served the emotional arcs and it could be literally anything as long as it gave the right nudges to the characters. So far this season it’s been going much better, probably because it feels simpler and there’s been less direct main plot nonsense going on and letting the characters breathe and deal with the emotional stuff… 
Idk, tl:dr I sort of feel like everything season 11 onwards has just been rewarding fans of the show who kept watching that long, made by people who love the show and are delighted it’s been around this long… Like, if anything, the writing might seem simplified because they’ve written so much show that it’s like a self-fuelling self-nostalgia perpetual motion machine for the last couple of seasons. But the very fact it seems easy and simple is betraying how intelligent some of the writing actually is, because at no point has it let up on the depth it’s written at, and with more show it just means MORE stuff to mirror, parallel and build off of. The writing is probably proportionately better than it ever has been because it’s not a level playing field, it’s a MASSIVE MOUNTAIN of past canon all the new writers have to wrangle, learn, and love before they can start writing. And they show that they HAVE and produce great episodes out of it.

Ahhh yay!!! I'm so glad you like the concept; it makes me really happy, and I'm glad it makes other people happy too!!! Also, this ended up being SO incredibly long, sorry 😅 I hope you enjoy it!!!
The main band members are: Jack (lead guitar/vocals), Albert (guitar/vocals), Race (string bass/vocals), Spot (drums), Tommy Boy (trumpet), and Crutchie (sax, and vocals sometimes when he's not playing). They add in Davey (piano), and my OC Elaine (backup vocals), and @/the-cowbi's OC Cora (backup vocals/backup pianist) a little later, once they start doing actual shows. And some of the other boys fill in as needed on some of the instruments: Finch (guitar/vocals), Mush (guitar/vocals), Mike & Ike (trombone and trumpet, I just can't remember which is which off the top of my head...), Elmer (drums). Some of the other boys sing, too, but I can't remember who 😅
So Jack, Race, and Albert met in kindergarten and were instantly inseperable. The next year, they met Crutchie, and then a little later that year they met Mush and Finch, who were already friends. Cora came along when they were 10 and she was adopted by Race's mother, Elaine met them in middle school (she and Mush did choir together and were sort of friends but fell apart, and she and Cora became friends through Medda's music class and stuck together into high school, but she didn't know most of the boys besides Race, Albert, and Jack until she started coming to rehearsals with Cora). Most of the other boys joined the group throughout elementary school. Spot and Tommy were the last to fall in with them, during freshman year of high school. Blink probably came in around that same time as well.
Generally, they're all pretty close. Tommy and Crutchie live across the street from each other, so Tommy drives Crutchie to school every morning. Jack, Race, Cora, and Albert live close to each other (Race + Cora and Albert on the same street, Jack a few blocks over) so they all walk to school together, and Elaine joins them where her walking route meets theirs. When the Delancey brothers start picking fights with them, they work out a system where they all walk each other to class so that no-one is ever alone for more than a few steps, while still falling in the purview of one of Pulitzer's weird rules, that they can't be in a group of more than three on school property. Literally all of them are willing to fight for any of the others. Mush puts himself between both of the Delanceys and Crutchie and Elaine at one point, and at another Spot gets a group together to teach the Delanceys a lesson (which goes... Poorly). They're all basically ride or die.
Mike and Ike are the biggest pranksters but their preferred targets are the Delanceys, not their friends, since they can get mean with their pranks. They're most proud of the time they managed to get stink bombs into the Delanceys' lockers. Albert and Race have also been known to pull some good pranks, but theirs are more lighthearted and directed at the other members of the group (mostly Jack, tbh, because that boy needs to learn to relax). Elaine and Cora will team up to play little jokes on Albert, Race, and Jack mostly. As for dares, Albert, Romeo, Race, and probably Finch are the most likely to get themselves in over their heads for something stupid, and Mike and Ike are the most likely to put them up to it. JoJo, Specs, and Mush are the most likely to be sharing the group's single brain cell and try to stop them from getting themselves killed (or worse! Expelled!)
But they all also do their best to keep an eye out for one another. Finch and Elaine always make sure Mush eats before shows, because he gets so stressed and nervous that he forgets. Henry always carries bandaids in case Elaine stabs herself with her sewing needle or pins, or Cora picks at her skin to the point of breaking it, or Boots (or literally any of the other boys tbh) gets into a fight that doesn't go well. They've known each other for so long that they're fairly good at intuiting when something is wrong with someone, and knowing how best to help them (although there are also times when they're all blockheads and DON'T notice, because despite best efforts, that happens from time to time)
Favorite soda is a great question!!! I'm going to take slight liberty and answer it with favorite foods/drinks in general also, because I have a few favorite sodas but a lot more favorite other things that are edible 😅
Race Higgins LOVES orange soda. Anything orange-flavores, really. But he also is always chewing doublemint gum. It only took one Bad Experience to realize that he shouldn't chew mint gum anywhere in the vicinity of something orangey.
Albert likes coca-cola. He doesn't need the caffeine, but he still drinks it and generally crashes very hard in about an hour.
Elaine loves strawberry soda, but is banned from anything caffeinated.
Finch will die for a cheeseburger and fries.
Mush's favorite foods are grilled cheese sandwiches and the (utterly disgusting) PA Dutch staple of apple butter and cottage cheese.
Romeo also loves cheeseburgers, but will not eat them with ketchup or mustard. Only tomato and lettuce. He will fight Finch over condiments.
Cora bakes, and also loves baked goods! Jack's favorite food is her brownies, because they're to die for. Davey also loves her brownies.
Davey can't live without his morning coffee.
Specs loves chocolate milkshakes, but he works at a diner and will only drink chocolate milkshakes from there.
Elmer also loves milkshakes, but will drink any flavor!!!
Hey uhhh... Does anyone want to talk about the Newsies 50s AU I'm writing? I've lost my focus yet again, and I'm trying to get it back but it's not working so maybe talking about it will help? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm surprised you feel that way, although it made me sad (especially that senketsu was gone), I really loved the way they dealt with the themes of moving on, and of the impact the past should have on us.
I’m surprised that this is surprising! Apparently I haven’t salted enough about the ending recently, huh?
That said, I don’t know if you read this post that I linked in my last response, but I would recommend reading it if you haven’t (and if you want to understand more of my POV). Buuuut that’s a whole heck of a lot of TLDR, so let me pick out the relevant bits:
From Senketsu’s Final Fate? (143) ☂:
I appreciate how the OVA expanded on Senketsu’s dying linesome more with the idea of “graduating” from the past and learning to move on,but, opinions, it wasn’t really the closure I was hoping for. A peek in myanalysis tag shows that I don’t ever seem to stop yapping about how Senketsuis more than a uniform, and I’ll always argue that point,since that’s so much of what the show means to me. And while I’m compelled bythe OVA’s take on “outgrowing” being less about growing up but more aboutletting go of the past and moving on, it still rather adds to this idea of“outgrowing Senketsu”… which leaves a really sour taste in my mouth. Yeah, itseems to be more about what sailor uniforms represent (and particularly, what aKamui represents) than anything about Senketsu personally, but the point stillstands. He’s Ryuko’s friend and partner. You don’t outgrow that.
Worst of all, though, is that the closure at the end heregives off the impression that Ryuko doesn’t need Senketsuanymore, which doesn’t sit right with me. Cause, like, when you lose a friendand you learn to live without them, saying you don’t need them anymore feelsall sorts of wrong. People certainly need people, but with friends, itshouldn’t be about being so reliant on them that you literally need them tolive—it’s about wanting them in your life because they enhanceit by being who they are. So in this sense, yes, Ryuko doesn’t need him, butthat’s not something I want to hear in this show’s final moments. I want tohear that they were friends, that they had good times together, that she’llmiss him but she won’t kill herself in missing him, and she’ll never forgethim. This “I’ve outgrown you and I don’t need you anymore” vibe I get justfeels like a slap in the face after everything those two went through together.
From OVA Thoughts ☂:
I can’t enjoy the OVA as much as I would like because it mucks up one of the show’s most crucial elements. To spend a whole series touting two characters as equals and one and the same and then try to pass one off as just some grand mentor figure that needs to be “outgrown” and moved away from plain doesn’t work. And it works even less to treat him as though he’s been some object all along. All of that seems to be going on with the OVA, and all of it leaves me shaking my head.
From Senketsu’s Death: For the Best? (186)  ☂:
You might outgrow sailor uniforms (though I’ll point outthat this sentiment is pretty broken, considering Ryuko still has a year ofhigh school left and no, she’s not done wearing sailor uniforms just yet), butyou don’t outgrow friends. 
From Senketsu “Outgrew” Being a Uniform? (139) ☂:
Now, moving on from the battle and letting the past rest? Ican totally see that as a good way to conclude the show. With the idea ofchoosing your own destiny and breaking the strings of fate that bound you, theOVA does indeed work on a lot of levels and asks a lot of touching questions,too. What do you do with yourself once you are freed from fate? How do you moveon? All great. I dig it.
And I’d dig it a lot more if Senketsu was handled as nicely.Ryuko needs to move on from his death and not drown herself in sorrow for hisloss? Awesome! Perfect way to end the series. But it gets so… muddled.
First off, there are a million different ways to interpretwhat even happened with Senketsu. Is he dead and watching over Ryuko in theafterlife? Is he an imaginary space ghost? Is he a god? Is he in Ryuko’s heartand together they get to live out Ryuko’s greatest happiness for reals? Is heboth literally in her heart and Life Fiber Clothing Jesus atthe same time? Is he sharing Ryuko’s body a la Birdy and Tsutomu and they justhave to build him a new one? Is it like Wan and Raava where they’re fused but(I presume) they can still speak to each other and maintain their own personalities?All of these could work in canon, and for something that’s supposed to giveclosure, it’s rather frustrating and confusing. What is even meant to beconveyed with such an ambiguous conclusion to Senketsu’s story? If he’s deadand the theme is moving on from fate, make it clear that he is indeeddead—don’t complicate it.
From The OVA is Awful if You Like Senketsu ☂:
Meanwhile Senketsu’s character is totally shat on [in the OVA], he’streated as little more than an object when his entire arc was about realizinghe’s human and so much more than that, this forced, last-minutemetaphor of “outgrowing your sailor uniform!!!” that never made sense inthe first place and was totally contradictory to the entire rest of the show isfurthered in the most demeaning way possible (“lol senketsu ur just a sailoruniform and guess i’ve moved on from them even though i actually still have ayear of high school left and also weren’t u supposed to be, like, my friend andequal? not anymore!”), and there’s such ambiguity about his final fate thatnobody can seem to agree if he’s even freaking dead or not… which just mucks upthese forced metaphors even more. 
I was fucked up for days after I first saw the OVA because Iwas so disappointed by it. I could not believe the treatment of Senketsu, andeven now I still cringe a bit whenever I edit with it or write about it.
From OVA Salt ☂:
The OVA’s supposed to have this big message about moving on(and, in Ryuko’s case, moving on from Senketsu’s loss… I mean, at least, I think that’swhat they’re going for, but it gets so muddled), but it’s hard for it to meanmuch when you don’t really see her suffering. How much didthis loss mean to her? Who knows, because the show doesn’t get into it verymuch.
Which is awful, because it’s a loss that should mean somuch to Ryuko. It was literally one of her greatest fears that she’dlose Senketsu. She had a recurring nightmare about it, and she was so fiercelyprotective over him that she would have died for him without even a moment’shesitation. The two of them are described as “soulmates,” a perfect team,“two-in-one.” She wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. This isthe kind of death that deserves some time. And you just don’tget much in the OVA, and what you do pretty much reducesSenketsu to an object.
It’s just… disappointing, especially because I don’t thinkany other (heroic) character would have been treated like this if they had diedinstead–and the OVA certainly wouldn’t be so widely accepted if they were.
From Gurren Lagann, Re: Cutie Honey: Kill la Kill Ending Salt ☂:
Again, I think there’s merit in tragedies and the sad factthat things aren’t always going to work out. I think Senketsu’s death couldhave been really poignant and powerful even if it broke my heart. But themessage they went with [Senketsu living “wouldn’t do anything” for Ryuko’s growth] leaves me empty and not feeling anything but disappointment,and, even worse, it’s not even a tasteful portrayal of such a message as “TheSense of Wonder” is. Senketsu’s entire person is discarded, and a loss that should bemonumental is brushed aside as something righteous and “for the best.”
Okay, that’s a heck of a lot of TLDR, too. So, basically, I guess it comes down to this:
The idea of moving on from the past is fine. It’s fine to do that in relation to a character’s death—even great! However, Senketsu—literally the second or third-most important character—has a death scene that lasts, in its entirety, hardly over one minute. One. Minute. For the protagonist’s canonically-described soulmate. It’s just not good.
And not only that, Senketsu also dies less than five minutes before the end of the series. The show only focuses on Ryuko’s grief for a brief moment and then Senketsu is promptly ignored until, right at the last minute, the show decides, oh, right, yeah, Senketsu, moving on from sailor uniforms, yeah, sure. It seems to me that Senketsu was originally far less of a character than he ended up being, and that’s fine… but then you can’t just shove in your originally-intended ending and act like it’s cool. It’s not.
In fact, I’m sure Senketsu didn’t used to be such a character, because Ryuko thinking about Senketsu in the last moment of episode 24 wasn’t even in the almost-final script. The “outgrowing sailor uniforms” thing ended up being so tacked on in the final version of the story that even the nearly-final draft just kinda threw it out there and completely abandoned it. 
So that big, overarching idea of “moving on from the past” that the OVA tries to build on? It was literally thrown together last minute. And it shows. It shows so hard.
Because think of it this way: say Mako died, in the last five minutes of the last episode, in hardly a minute. Say that, as she perished, she told Ryuko that she’d only be holding her back in life (even though the entire rest of the series says otherwise), and that it’s good for her to go. Say Ryuko cried for all of thirty seconds and then there’s a flash forward and she’s shopping with her sister with cheerful music. Say that the whole show ends when Ryuko sees a girl who looks like Mako, feels sad for a second, and then is hunky-dory because she knows Mako helped her get her to where she is.
Would that seem well done or like a sad, but beautiful display of moving on? No! There would be an uproar if this happened! Mako’s death would have felt ridiculously tacked on and pointlessly cruel!
But that’s exactly what happened with Senketsu. His death isn’t given proper time, the “moving on” message is so forced that you don’t even really see it in an almost-final version of the script, and the only reason it gets accepted is because Senketsu doesn’t look like a cute human girl or guy.
And that is why I can’t stand the ending of Kill la Kill.

Maybe a prompt where Lance gets sick and goes into Keith's room to ask for help, but finds Keith havin' a crisis about the stress of maybe leading Voltron some day, or about a crush he has, or something. So Lance is helping him out and they're just sitting on his floor, chatting Keith through his feelings, and Lance gets progressively quieter and makes less sense until Keith finds out he's got a fever and was here for help and decided Keith was more important?

My first sickfic, y’all! This takes place after the end of season 2.

Lance may not be confident about a lot of things in hislife, but he knew one thing for sure:
He was sick.
What began as a low throbbing headache a day or so prior hadsince escalated to a full-fledged migraine, accompanied with congestion, anddry clamminess of what he hoped wasn’tthe start of a fever. He had tried to brush it off, telling himself that it wasjust exhaustion from the back to back missions they’d been on, but the wayLance woke up that morning made him finally accept the fact that it was morethan just being tired. He pulled on his jacket with a bit more effort thannormal before he stifled a sneeze or two into the crook of his elbow as soon ashe got the jacket on. He groaned in pain as the throbbing in his head worsenedand he had to admit it: he needed help.
He crossed his arms, walking out of his room as the doorhissed open. Who could he go to? Allura and Coran were no doubt neck deep in plans fortheir next mission, he didn’t want to bother them. And Pidge and Hunk had beentalking about staying up all night to work on some tracking tech to find Shiro,so he assumed they were either still working or passed out by now. He walkedout of his room, his eyes half lidded as he looked down both ends of the chillyhallway. Man, what he wouldn’t give to be able to tell Shiro. He probably stillwouldn’t have, he hated to worry the team on his behalf, but his leader’s kindeyes and gentle actions were badly missed right about now. It had only been acouple weeks since his disappearance, and the loss still fell heavy on theteam. No one was resting easy, not until they found Shiro, but of course it hadto be Lance that fell ill from itall. He bit his lip glancing to his right as he walked down to the next door.
“Keith?”
Lance knocked weakly on his door, suppressing a couplecoughs under his breath as he waited for the door to slide open, or Keith’svoice to beckon him in. He heard neither. Lance frowned and glanced around, hadhe gone to the training deck? He seemed to be doing that a lot after Shiro’sdisappearance… well, even more thanhe had previously. Out of everyone, Keith had taken it the hardest. It madesense, him and Shiro had known each other before they became paladins, and nowwith him gone… well, Keith had voiced to everyone Shiro’s wishes of areplacement leader.
Lance was about to turn and go back to his room when heheard a noise come from inside the room. He frowned, so Keith was in there. Was he ignoring him? ‘Ass.’He thought to himself, his sour mood from being ill flaring even more with thethought that the one person he thought he could go to on this ship was ignoringhim and damn it, he was going to give Keith a piece of his mind. He reachedover and pressed on the button to open the door, the panel sliding open with ahiss. Lance already had his mouth open, ready to spew his thoughts on thematter before it all faltered. Keith was in his room, sitting on the groundwith his knees pulled up to his chest and his gloved hands rung and grippedinto his hair.
Lance’s eyes widened and any form of negativity flew out theairlock as he walked over hesitantly.
“Keith? Hey, buddy… you okay?”
“Leave me alone, Lance.” A muffled voice sounded from inbetween his knees. It was a little too shaky for Lance’s liking. He didn’t likehearing Keith like this.
“Hey, come on. If something’s bothering you, you know youcan talk to me, right?” Lance suggested as he sat down next to Keith, crossinghis legs as he put a hand on his head momentarily to try and stop the room fromspinning. He shook it off as he continued, “I know you think you have to gothrough all of this alone, but know that we’re all going through this too—“
Before Lance could finish his sentence he was cut off byKeith, who finally looked up at him, the threat of tears glistening in hisviolet eyes.
“You’re not allgoing through this too! You’re not the one Shiro put in charge to lead Voltron!You’re not the one who now has to make sure we all don’t die! You’re not the one who will be blamed if all of this goes tohell in a handbasket!” Keith was yelling, his breath erratic as he gripped hishair again, his voice softening if only in defeat, “I don’t know why Shirothought I could handle this… he should’ve given the command to Allura. Allurawould be an amazing leader! I… I’m just some damn dropout who relies too muchon instinct to even think aboutleading a team and—“
“Keith.” Lance interrupted, putting a hand on his fellowpaladin as he subtly cleared his throat, all thoughts of telling Keith how hewas feeling had disappeared, he needed Lance much more right now. “Calm down.Breathe.”
Keith looked down at the floor he sat on for another momentbefore taking a few breaths, his shoulders relaxing slightly as he leaned backagainst the side of his bed. “I can’t do this, Lance…”
“Nonsense.” Lance gave a grin, “I mean, obviously Shirochose you for a reason, right? I feel like we should give him the benefit ofthe doubt that he knew what he was doing.” He said in the most cheerful way hecould. “I mean, look! You basically lead us through our last two missions, andthey turned out fine! I think you’re doing fine.”
“Yeah?” Keith glanced over at Lance slightly, noting that itwas strange how pale the blue paladin seemed. But perhaps it was just the harshlighting of his room.
“Yeah! Like, holy quiznak, when you took down that droneright before it could fire at me, you saved me dude! That seems pretty leaderlyto me. And when—“ his peptalk was cut off by a string of wet, congested coughsthat he buried once again in the elbow of his jacket. “—And when—“ he triedagain. When had the room begun spinning again?
“Lance??”
He could hear Keith’s voice, but it sounded muffled. Like hewas underwater. He looked at Keith’s face, it took far too long for him toregister that the black haired boy was looking back at him with a wide eyedlook of concern. “—when—“ he tried to start once more before the room tiltedsharply, his body following along with it.
“LANCE!”
When Lance came to, he was in a bed. His bed, he concluded by the smell of his conditioner on thepillow. How had he gotten here? He opened his bleary eyes and brought the heelof his palm to his eye to try and rub the blurriness away when a shift from thebottom of the bed made him jump and look in that direction. At the end of thebed was the red paladin himself, his arms crossed and his head leaned backagainst the wall the bed stood against, his eyes closed. Keith opened his eyesslightly after a second, glancing at Lance like it was something he had beendoing regularly before he did a double take and sat up straight, “You’re awake.”He didn’t even try to mask the relief that coated his words.
“Y-yeah” Lance rasped, his sore voice not cooperating as hecoughed a few times into his pillow.
“No, no talking.” Keith scooted up closer, “you scared thehell out of me. Why didn’t you tell me you weren’t feeling well??”
Lance opened his mouth to speak before a warning look fromKeith made him close his mouth with a frown. “You want me to answer you ornot??” he choked out.
“I just—ugh.”Keith groaned as he exhaled, “Just try to go back to sleep, okay? I told Hunk,and he’s trying to make you the space equivalent of chicken noodle soup. So…” Keith’svoice softened, “just rest up until he figures that out.”
Lance simply gave a nod as he turned on his side glancing upat Keith as his tired eyes slowly began to shut.
Keith sighed pinching the bridge of his nose, and Lance’sfinal thoughts before dozing back off was that that was a habit Keith haddefinitely picked up from Shiro over the time being spent together.
He knows Keith is going to do just fine as leader.

Wowie u sew??? What a lucky duck! I've always wanted to get better in sewing but I'm so horrible at it. Do u have any tips for beginner seamstresses?

Putting this under a read more cause this is basically Mod Sully’s stream of consciousness in regards to sewing:
Okay so, I kinda had an interesting time learning how to sew because I started with a broken sewing machine. Like, it couldn’t even sew for more than a few inches before it broke down. Total nightmare. Also when I began I had like the bare ass minimum of materials (regular scissors, a ruler, pencil). And it was a bitch to try to measure/hem/cut anything. So it was funny cause as I got better I also got better equipment. I actually redid some stuff for this year’s con and things came out sooooo much better.Granted, I’m still rather a novice myself (I didn’t start cosplaying until Junior year of college), but I’ll tell you some stuff I’ve been learning so you can benefit from my mistakes.
So here’s some of the Essentials that I’ve found to be super helpful:
Fabric Scissors. Trust me there’s a big difference between fabric scissors and regular ones. And once you have fabric ones, don’t use them for paper and stuff.
Water soluble fabric marker/pencil (I have a white one I usually use, then some blue chalk for white fabric. Don’t use pencil trust me on this one.)
Seam Ripper (super important. if you fuck up you can use this to take out the thread.)
Box of pins
Iron. Always iron your fabric before cutting or sewing. Also when using an iron, please test it on some of your scrap fabric first. You never know how it’s going to react to the material. This way you can find out what it can tolerate. I had some polyester-blend fabric that would get all gunked up somehow if I tried ironing it at too high a setting.
Masking tape (cause a lot of times you’ll need things to temporarily stick together and don’t want to get tape residue on it.)
Seam Gauge
X-Acto knife
Self-healing cutting board
Measuring tape (the tailor’s kind, not the construction worker kind)
Ruler, preferably see-through and a kind that won’t get cut into by an xacto knife
Test Fabric. I cannot stress this enough. I’m lucky cause I live in New York and we have an entire garment district full of fabric stores, but if you can find a Michael’s or a goodwill or something they’re also good places to check. In a fabric store you can usually find a discount bin with clearance fabric. You want to find something similar in consistency and stretchiness to your final fabric. I got some fabric for $3 a yard for my Foo Fighters test fabric.
One thing I’ve found particularly helpful is that you can get these little sewing kits at like Michael’s. I got one and have been using a lot of it to this day. It’s usually like a little pouch about half a foot long with some basics, like that little tomato you put pins in (which has come in handy for me) and some little spools of thread and a tape measure.
Not as essential but I’ve found to be lifesavers:
Drafting paper. This stuff is amazing for when you have to make your own patterns. I got like a huge roll for only five bucks, and it’s marked up in a grid in inches so it’s easier to make straight lines. Butcher paper works too.
Rotary cutter: For cutting long strips of fabric this saves me so much time and stress. Just be very careful not to cut yourself on it. It’s sharp! Also when you use a rotary cutter, have the cutting board underneath everything. Otherwise you’re gonna ruin whatever surface you’re cutting on top of.
So when I first started out it was with hand-sewing (the broken sewing machine wasn’t mine so I couldn’t always use it) which is a bitch a lotta the time. I mean, if you wanna do it I’m not gonna stop you. But I don’t really have any advice in this category cause all that time I just spent winging shit.
Okay so, Sewing Machine.
Some things that you definitely want a sewing machine to have are a Straight Stretch Stitch, Zigzag Stitch, and Overlock stitch (this is in place of a serger cause that’s like a whole nother machine it’s easier to just get a sewing machine with this thingy).
This is the sewing machine that I have. Again, only have a broken one to compare it to so I can’t really say if it’s better than most or not. I mean, I love it. Occasionally eats stretch fabric though if you’re sewing close to the edge of the fabric.
Also, when first starting out, don’t jump right away into your project. Get some scrap fabric and test out some of the stitching. Each one handles differently. And be careful to make sure you’re using the right foot and needle for the type of stitching (some need a twin needle and such.)
Stuff I’ve found useful:
In order to sew a straight line, you can use the Seam gauge to make some markers occasionally where the stitching is gonna go. Then, line the fabric up with the sewing machine (pay attention to where the needle is going to land. Always start sewing with the needle already dropped into the fabric). Take a piece of tape and place it alongside the edge of the fabric. Now when you’re sewing, just make sure that the paper stays right alongside that tape. Your line should be pretty straight! The gauge is just so you can occasionally look up and make sure you’re still goin the right way.
Also, if you put your needles in perpendicular to the direction you’ll be sewing, you don’t have to take the needles out as you go, you can just do that at the end!
I don’t know how other people do it, but when I have fabric that I’ve got to fold back to hem, what I do is put it on top of the pattern. The pattern should have the seam allowance on it marked. Then I stick a bunch of needles into it so the fabric and paper stay connected. Then, I use the rotary cutter/scissors to cut along the fabric so it matches up to the pattern’s shape. Then I take out the needles on one of the sides and start folding that side back to match up with the seam allowance, pinning a ton as I go so it holds in place, also putting some pins through into the paper too so it stays put for when I move to the other sides. This way you can make sure all your seam allowances are lined up!
If you want something to be symmetrical, make the pattern of just one half of it, then fold your fabric in half and pin it to the pattern. Once you’ve cut it out, if you unfold it it should be the full piece. This method also works for things like pants. Rather than cutting out both back legs at different times, you can just fold the fabric and cut through two layers to get two leg pieces.
Before you start sewing, make sure there’s enough thread in the bobbin. The bobbin’s the part with the string that goes inside the machine, rather than the spool of thread on the top (you use both). Sometimes you’ll be sewing a bunch of stuff and not notice the bobbin runs out, then you’re just left sewing completely unaware that nothing’s staying together and you gotta go back.
The sewing machine usually works with a pump. The harder you press down the faster it goes. Start out slow and then work your way to fast, but don’t go too fast cause then your sewing might get out of line if you’re not experienced with it.
Also keep an eye on where the fabric meets the needle and make sure the sewing machine continues to push the fabric forward. If it stays in one place, that means it’s stuck inside the machine. Fortunately with most sewing machines you can take the top part off that area and go inside and fish out the fabric. But there’s a good chance the fabric will be ruined.
Also, you will never have picked up all the needles. There are always going to be needles on the ground.
When you join two pieces of fabric together, make sure it’s on the side you’re going to have inside the clothing. In general just always make sure you’re sewing on the side you need to sew on.
Always cut a little bit more initially than you think you’ll need. You’ll narrow it down more when you get it over the pattern.
With stretch fabric, use either a zigzag stitch or straight stretch stitch. Also, if you attach stretch fabric to non-stretch fabric, it’s not gonna stretch anymore regardless of the stitch.
There’s a way to make it so that the stitching doesn’t show on the outside. It’s called facing, and I haven’t really mastered it yet. There’s tutorials for it online though.
If you have to sew designs to something, like letters or a patch, I’ve found that Heat n Bond works really well. It’s got this web stuff on the back that, while not permanent, keeps whatever you’re attaching stationary on the other fabric so you can sew it into place. When I do these things with stretchable fabric a straight stretch stitch is the best. You’ll have to go slow and also occasionally pick up the foot to slightly adjust the fabric for turns and such.
Also, since I’m doing cosplay I’m gonna reiterate something I remember reading a while back: Cosplay can be only two of these three things: Cheap, Fast, and Accurate. If you’re like me and want to go the Cheap and Accurate route, don’t be like me and start planning early. Don’t fall victim to Con Crunch.

I don't know if this will make sense but I'm kind of responding to your answer about Cas seeming different and wondering about your conclusion that Cas feels like a tool/needs to feel he deserves love and I feel like it's not wrong but like we're having to put all these pieces together and concluding instead of getting Cas' side of this from Cas? Like we had to get Mary's side from Dean and I'm wondering if that's just me? And if not, why aren't we getting more of Cas' story from Cas?
I think it is something that we can get directly from Cas or stuff that happens to Cas, but then I also got the impression of all of Mary’s stuff from Mary :P 
I think in 12x22 Dean had a lot of personal realisations about HIMSELF and told them all to Mary, but it was quite clear, but not to him until he realised it, that Mary was going to ignore him. If nothing else, immediately before he went into her head, she was paralleling demon!Dean in 10x03, tied to a chair in a very similar manner and recalling how Dean didn’t want to be saved there and was having all sorts of negative feelings about his family come to the surface for the first time in that way. 
So there was a context clue for us before he ever realised that she wasn’t going to be easy to reason with and want to be saved. Aside from that, her part in the season was to be perpetually depressed, suicidal, or in avoidance, running away from her family, and early on her guilt about them and loss was presented very clearly to us over the introductory run of episodes up to the halfway point. Since no good storytelling just tells us straight out what they’re thinking, only 12x02 had Mary just straight out tell us what she was worried about, but we’re supposed to be able to understand stories without that sort of exposition, and I think a lot of it was given to us in moments which weren’t that hard to read. I’ve written so much about her over this year and this question is about Cas, but anyway, I think her story was laid out well enough that it wasn’t like a surprise twist that she was feeling this way, and I don’t think it was supposed to be for anyone but Dean. 
Since you’re talking about what we can read, without much effort, I don’t think Mary’s story this season was at all difficult, and the only reason I can imagine people think it’s buried in the subtext is because we’re so used to being told that readings in the subtext don’t count for Destiel that we forget that normal readings of the story happen on all layers and when it’s not about the queer reading people in general can be expected to pick up an awful lot more even if they don’t know it - the sort of thing a casual viewer would be just “oh yeah right I remember” when you explain it to them, not needing a diagram, just a refresher that obviously the writers would remember the pilot of their own show when you point out the similarity between scenes or whatever. :P
So, I think we have got a lot of Cas’s story from Cas or so immediately about Cas we only need his mute reaction to a lot of lines to know how it applies to him.
This begins properly in 11x06, with some flashbacks to his earlier trauma, as an actual storyline ABOUT Cas and how he feels, but to go right back to the start, in the very first few interactions between Cas and Dean we get stuff like
DEAN:Of course you have a choice. I mean, come on, what? You’ve never questioned a crap order, huh? What are you both, just a couple of hammers?
and the follow up
CASTIEL:I’m not a… hammer as you say. I have questions, I have doubts. I don’t know what is right and what is wrong anymore, whether you passed or failed here.
I would consider 4x07 the start of Cas’s actual personal arc rather than just exposition angel, and his arc in season 4 is to learn to think for himself, along with being programmed back to being a tool for Heaven to use to help start the apocalypse. This opening to the whole saga uses the imagery of Cas as a tool to set up what his story will about, so from the get go Cas’s agency has been framed as NOT being a tool, against the very heavy threat of being used as one. So as a baseline basically any time that’s compromised he’s being used as a tool and it’s something he’s said about himself and has been said about him from the very beginning, so it’s a fundamental part of his characterisation.
Season 8, where I consider his proper personal arc to begin anew, also uses him in the tool of Heaven imagery, going back to the season 4 reprogramming thing by introducing Naomi and exploring how angels inherently don’t seem to have agency when following orders and working for Heaven. Cas is used as her weapon to deal with Heaven’s problems, and he earns his freedom at the end of the season really only at the hands of Metatron, who had a problem with Naomi that he’d been avoiding her for millennia and, fittingly, killed her with one of her own tools. (Of course, after their loyalties had shifted for us on screen so Naomi’s death was tragic and Metatron was clearly the villain.) This entire arc is about the angels’ agency as use as tools, and again is the start of how Cas’s story is being told - going from being used like this to the pure, terrifying freedom of being human with no strings at all.
In season 9 he takes grace back to be useful in the fight, and it starts a thing of angelic power being useful for him as a weapon in a way, that he needs it to fight, and to see himself as disposable for the sake of saving his friends and taking down Metatron, or why else take grace that will burn him out. Metatron spends the end of the season pulling Cas’s strings and using him as a puppet in his shadow play, and Cas wins back agency at the end of the season, metaphorically, by smashing the angel tablet, because he ends Metatron’s power to yank all the angels around - same shit different day in Heaven. Cas is also repeatedly asked about the grace and why he’s in the fight and so on, and his reluctance as a leader and setting aside personal feelings to self-sacrifice are all evident, so his self-worth and using himself up for the fight are some of the main themes for his personal arc that season.
In season 10 it gets more self-reflective - he’s allowing the grace to burn out and Hannah is trying to save him from himself but he refuses on the grounds that he’s not worth it. Crowley then saves him supposedly conscience free that Crowley did all the evil parts necessary to get Cas back in the game, and basically tells him he did it so he can point him at the Bunker to save/stop Dean. If Cas takes him at face value he didn’t do it to be sentimental (and this IS Cas after all) then it’s another use of Cas as a weapon to get the job done. Cas also tells Hannah that the mission is everything, above his own health and happiness. So that’s words direct from his mouth which betray his feelings of being useful only as a tool.
After he saves Dean he leaves to carry on working with Hannah rather than stop and hang out with them at the Bunker and get some down time with them - as he said to Hannah, the mission comes first and he sort of owed it to her after derailing it to saving Dean and putting that above everything. When the “mission” runs out of steam and Hannah leaves, Cas immediately turns his attention to checking up on Claire, and by the time Dean reaches him for the Burger Date, Cas is feeling openly dejected and useless and Dean accuses him of having a mid life crisis :P I love this whole scene but anyway Dean nails how Cas feels, I think, and it’s written all over his face and preceding scenes that he was trying to be useful because he’s finally cut loose from Heaven’s demands, and all other missions, with that same freedom he had suddenly in 8x23, but still an angel and with no other way to direct it than trying to find new missions:
DEAN:Cas, listen to me. There’s some stuff you just got to let go. Okay? The people you let down, the ones you can’t save … You got to forget about them. For your own good.
I think this conversation is really good for showing us through Dean realising these things about Cas that he’s just trying to be useful and desperately searching for something to do - Dean sees he’s basically working through a checklist of stuff he feels he’s done harm to the world over, and I think he understands from knowing Cas just how Cas acted with Claire the night before, repeatedly trying to help her to the point of pestering her, so she ran away and didn’t want to be helped, at least not by having a guardian angel suddenly shadowing her everywhere. And certainly not this one :P Anyway Cas persists and gets a sort of mixed victory there by the end of the season, with Claire accepting their help, resolving the stuff with Amelia, and Cas getting to see her sent to safety, and Claire hugs him in gratitude…
Meanwhile, through the rest of his part of the season, he just wants to help save Dean, and spends a large chunk of the season off-screen searching for something to help, and does so with a determination that has Heaven turn against him for putting saving Dean first (the final pay off of the stuff that started between him and Hannah in 10x02, that he wouldn’t let her free Metatron to save him, but he frees Metatron to save Dean). Sam convinces him to do one good thing for HIMSELF and get his grace back so he won’t die, and ends up stuck with Metatron berating him for his personal moral failings for an entire episode, culminating in 
METATRONBrothers and sisters? Listen to you. Still spitting out the company line like anyone cares. Like we’re actually a family? When what we really are – are a bunch of glowing lights filled with self-loathing or delusions of grandeur. Or both.
CASTIELYou shut up!
METATRONNo! If I’m gonna die, I want answers. Like, who are you now? Like, you’re obviously not an angel of the Lord. And what about all of this walking the earth like Caine from “Kung Fu” crap? Cleaning up Heaven’s messes. How many more rogue angels are there out there? And, what are you gonna do once you’re done with all that? Go back to Heaven? Please. The angel formerly known as Hannah has restored order up top. Smoothest it’s run since God cut the ribbon on the pearly gates. So tell me, Castiel, truly, what is your mission now?
CASTIELYou shut up and keep looking.
In part this is about his identity and loyalties but on this subject it’s also highlighting how he’s looking for missions and has started to lose his agency/identity to the need to do that exactly like back in season 4 when working mindlessly for Heaven was equated to being a hammer. This rant has the subtext that he’s doing the same for Dean, with that nice “Caine from Kung Fu” link because I don’t think you can mention “Caine” without “Mark of Cain” zooming immediately to mind in season 10. We’ve also not seen him do any missions for Heaven since 10x07 and anyhow this is after he breaks up with Heaven officially rather than Hannah just leaving him to do his own stuff; now he’s a wanted criminal. After this, his story pretty much fizzles out for the season except for 10x20, and showing up to help the Winchesters with the Mark, which he does past the point of the fight with Dean in 10x22 (where he swears he’ll stick with Dean and watch him murder the world - yikes Cas). I think this fight is the earliest trauma from his 11x06 flashbacks. After, he heals himself, and next time we see him, is just chatting to Sam about what next. 
Rowena picks up the mocking where Metatron left off, notably calling Cas a dog that thinks he’s people (because she has watched a lot of the Simpsons I guess? :P) and then at the end of the season, the reward for all his troubles, she casts the attack dog spell on him, which is the most obvious way to take away his agency and turn him into a weapon to kill Crowley. I think it’s also very much a commentary on how he was used in season 10 - that Rowena showing up late to hang with the main crowd identifies Cas as nothing more useful than an attack dog. Mary will do the same later.
So, that gets us to 11x06, where Cas is shown having traumatic flashbacks, another reminder of the “dog that thinks it’s people” line, and then we see from Sam and Dean’s POV a sympathetic conversation about Cas, which when Dean phones Cas, seems to be way more “up and at em, we need to you do stuff for us again”, where Dean seems to us sympathetic and worried, we can also see from Cas’s perspective that he’s depressed and ill and wants to stay in and not be a part of this fight right now, because he’s been so horribly hurt by it lately, mostly for reasons beyond his control rather than any noble self-sacrifice. It was just an endless string of trying to help and having his agency taken away and getting hurt or hurting people as a result of it. The flashbacks don’t go as far back as 8x17 of course, but in 11x03 he beats Dean up in a parallel to that moment, and the links are all there that this keeps on happening to Cas. 
He eventually pulls the trenchcoat back on to report for duty, leaves the house, gets the demon tablet, and goes through a whole new round of mocking from Metatron.
METATRONYou have gone full wuss. I don’t know what it was that happened, but whatever it was, you are scarred…deep, paralyzed by trauma, by fear. I mean, look at you. You can’t even hit me!
(Castiel punches Metatron in the face)
CASTIEL (grabbing Metatron by the collar again)It’s not fear.
[…]
METATRONOkay. So I misjudged. You’re not scared. You’re mad. And I get it.I mean, it must suck being everyone’s tool, manipulated and used by the angels, by your enemies-
-by your friends.
the “by your friends” is important for telling us that Cas feels this way because of season 10 especially (Sam and the Book of the Damned is not addressed directly very much but in 10x18 he lies directly to Cas about it before the rest of the pizza party show up, before getting Cas to help later anyway), and also Dean’s comments from the start of the episode wheedling Cas back into helping.
At the end of the episode Dean and Cas are furious with each other over losing Amara and Metatron and Cas is covering up all this hurt that Metatron has put out in the open for us - as a great way to be Cas’s dark inner voice vocalised for our benefit, so we can guess why he’s lashing out, and Dean is lashing out for reasons we can understand from his problem with Amara’s control over him. They’re at an understanding impasse, because they both feel manipulated and controlled and helpless but for different reasons, this time Dean under the supernatural influence, Cas under his own trauma and lack of self-worth, and maybe even doubts sown about how much he can trust or rely on his friends to care for him.
This of course leads to 11x10 and once again a seemingly tender conversation between Dean and Cas if we see it from Dean’s side and Cas comes when he calls, tries to tend to him when he’s sick, and Dean says things to Cas going off to confront Amara which are Dean’s way of being concerned and reaching out for Cas, but Cas as the previous episode with him established, is not going to understand anything but clear speech from Dean about this, so from his POV we see him once again rushing to Dean when he’s needed, and a combination of being sent into danger (Dean offers to come but Cas doesn’t want him to turn to salt and says no, but legitimate reasons aside, he’s still being sent alone), and Cas volunteering to do something dangerous on Dean’s behalf. He then walks right into Ambriel:
Ambriel: Well, that’s why we’re here, right? I’m a number cruncher and you… like I said, I’ve heard the stories. You help. But Sam and Dean Winchester are the real heroes. So, if the Darkness is still alive and she’s pissed… and she kills us… no big loss. So sure, maybe we’re not super important, but we do the job. You know… I think there’s nobility in that.
Once again someone else vocalises for us what Cas might be feeling, or the words which will cut deepest and make him feel the worst, building on what has been already clearly explained in the text. Amara repeats this, adding he’s not worth killing, uses him to send a message she’d rather carve into him than rely on him to repeat himself, and Cas goes and says yes to Lucifer - in this show’s language one of the most awful ways to give up your agency and through the conversation between Sam and Lucifer in the rest of the episode, obviously a way to be a tool of use for a bigger purpose.
SAMCas? Why?
CASTIELI wanted to be of service to the fight. And only Lucifer can beat her.
[…]
CASTIELI can’t! It’s taking all my strength to keep him from killing you. And besides, we need him!
SAMNo Cas, we don’t. We’ll find another way to stop Amara!
CASTIEL(Shakes his head) We need him to save Dean.
Cas sacrifices his agency to save Dean in 11x14, and explains his earlier motivation to be useful in the fight. 
I think we have to go all the way back to the Burger Date in 10x09 for the last round of this conversation but once Cas and Dean are talking normally again, Dean once again tries to understand and to make Cas feel better when Lucifer did not turn out to be any help whatsoever and Amara does part 1 of giving Dean back the things he needs most (I mean come on 12x22 pretty much made that canon :P):
DEAN:No, no, no. It wasn’t stupid.
[…]
DEAN:No, but it was our best shot, and you stepped up.
CAS:I was just trying to help.
DEAN:Well, and you do help, Cas.
[…]
DEAN:You know, sometimes me and Sam have got so much going on that…we forget about everyone else.
This is the sort of thing Cas needed to hear a long time ago and before he did any of these things, and a small reassurance far too late that Sam and Dean care about him. Still, he ends the season on good footing with Dean, mostly. He offers to go with him into the fight and Dean says no, because he wants Cas to be alive for, well, Cas being alive reasons. He tries to cheer him up with a PURPOSE, to look after Sam once Dean is dead and wowwww that is a poisoned gift because it’s the codependency’s prime motive from Dean - “take your brother outside as fast as you can!” all handed over to Cas :P 
Cas immediately loses Sam, comes crawling out of that crater full of fury and disrespect for random humans and their property if it gets him back to the Bunker - and walks right into Dean alive and well. Aww, happy ending!

Somewhere in the first 20 minutes of the episode before this moment, Mary gets a pretty good idea of how useful it is to have an angel around to do your bidding, pick up your laundry, and beat up mooks for you:

Cas’s attack dog dynamic is now in focus, that he has his agency, he’s back with the family he loves, but do they love him? Dean squishes him happily, but I figured he was letting Cas menace the driver because Cas is kinda terrifying at getting info and also Dean understands failing rule no.1, look out for Sammy. Since Cas failed it this time when Toni banished him, he knows how Cas feels and lets him do the talking, but also, out of concern and understanding, tries to rein Cas in when he’s hurting the dude. 
Mary’s impression is forming now that however close Cas is as a friend, he’s also someone who attacks on command for them in defence of their family. Oops. I think I said this in that other post that Cas doesn’t quite understand his dynamic with Dean because of all this trauma from earlier, that he doubts his worth, and Mary seeing the surface text instead of how much Dean cares about Cas as more than this, stamps a seal on it, that this is how Cas’s dynamic with Dean comes across to others who don’t know them. And is part of Cas’s deep misunderstanding of his own worth.
Then we get the BMoL and what is probably most of the last year’s worth of content in my Dean vs dogs tag:
MICK: Not to mention I powered down all the wardings in this shack so your attack dog could come in. I reckon you could finish me off without breaking a sweat. Am I right?

Both Mick and Ketch on their intro immediately class Cas as the Winchester’s attack dog. Ketch himself happily admits to being a point-and-attack dog, preferring mindless orders to just go kill whatever someone else decides needs killing. This imagery is applied to all of the family except Sam through the season - Cas here, Ketch in 12x14 comparing himself to Dean, and later to Mary, and Mary in 12x22 killing the cold open hunter with what look like claws as her weapon while she’s been brainwashed to be their attack dog in a parallel to just about every time Dean or Cas have lost their agency through basically the entire show. Like, going straight from controlled by Naomi to demon!Dean in a couple of scenes :P 
(As I’ve been scrolling the transcripts list I also remembered in 12x06 there’s the metaphor of Asa’s angel blade that he kept in a velvet box as his best tool for killing demons, while to Dean it’s a familiar, friendly object and he does not see it as a velvet box thing or necessarily a tool in the same way Asa would have. Obviously Cas is the angel blade in this metaphor :P Although this isn’t telling us so directly, I thought I’d mention it.)
Cas through most of the season keeps his agency and instead deals with what his worth is. He blatantly talks to Mary about belonging in 12x03 and decides to leave based on feeling like she deserves to get Sam and Dean’s attention more, and that he can go on without them and go hunt Lucifer alone because they will want to be with her more. His absence from the family dinner in 12x02 silently suggests this is coming. 
When they meet back up in 12x07 they work fairly equally and Cas even gets some of the best leads and insight to get them to Lucifer, but when they arrive there he immediately volunteers to buy them time, at his own expense and belief he’s ruined everything. 
Castiel: I’ll take Lucifer. He’s my responsibility.
Sam: No, he’s not. He’s all of our responsibility.
Castiel: Well, the only way you’ll clear that crowd without drawing fire is if he’s otherwise engaged.
Dean: Engaged in what, Cas? Killing you?
Sam: Cas, you’ll last…three minutes tops.
Castiel: Then I’ll buy you three minutes.
Dean expresses concern over Cas, but I think honestly 12x12 showed the level Dean needs to reciprocate to Cas’s expressed feelings for Cas to feel confident in how much they love him, because 12x10 and “I’m not mad, I’m worried” and them sticking around to die for Cas/save him if they can/not leave him while he’s dying, still wasn’t enough to prove they cared more about Cas alive and with them than just being good people who deserved protecting because they care for him, probably because they’re good human people who would love and protect everyone indiscriminately. Mary’s presence also helps defuse this from being personal, per say, as using the entire living Winchester family as an example of how good humanity is, to Cas, if you look at them in a molecular way. If he sees himself as sadly too disposable as an angel to be a proper part of this group, and that they’re just so good they’d act with this kindness towards him because that’s what they ALL do.
(Cas has probably got to realise off-screen that the Colt was what almost got him killed, since he knows about it in 12x19, and he knows the Winchesters have it so Heaven clearly has up to date, detailed intel - we are not just missing Dean’s reaction to knowing what Mary did in 12x12, although without Cas presence, in 12x14 Dean basically kicks Mary out for betraying Sam’s trauma with the BMoL AND nearly getting Cas killed, standing up for Cas full of indignant rage that Cas presumably has no idea Dean would feel and do on his behalf…)
Mary’s arc with understanding Cas resolves in the midseason as she realises Cas has suffered a loss as well as her, but not before saying more things to make him feel horrible about his DUTY to protect the Winchesters, as she sees him as the angel she promised her sons:
MARY: You left them.
CASTIEL: No, I… Dean told me to go. The woman–
MARY: The one you lost?
CASTIEL: I didn’t. I… I thought that she–
MARY: Stop making excuses.
[Cas looks down, and Mary sighs heavily]
MARY: Why… if they needed help, why didn’t they call me?
CASTIEL: You were out.
MARY: [sighs] How did we let this happen, Castiel?
If Cas wasn’t having an ongoing self-confidence/worth crisis her switch to understanding over this short scene would have probably helped more, but she lashes out and blames him, and only backtracks to understand she is to blame as well, and expresses this as a joint problem, without absolving Cas. It plays similar to 11x06 and Dean and Cas’s argument at the end, but Mary not realising she’s to blame until she’s already in the argument, which defuses it more than Dean and Cas butting heads both feeling awful and blaming the other from the start. 
However, she doesn’t give much ground there, and they meet months later to catch up, and Cas expresses how he was too insecure and scared to finish a hunt, which Mary then does for him - their bonding is tentative and not particularly great for reassuring Cas. Mary OUGHT to have turned it into an entire MotW for just the 2 of them where she nurtures Cas through the hunt and boosts his self-confidence by letting him lead and nudging him kindly through the steps, you know, in an ideal world where character development happens instantly instead of slow-cooking for 3 seasons :P 
Still, by the end of the episode they’re more equal and by the end of 12x12, Mary calls Cas “one of her boys”, probably through the trauma of almost getting Cas killed and realising how TFW see each other as family, and Cas including her in his rant in 12x09 and his “I love all of you” speech there. This change happens AFTER Mary (who is a lot like Dean) understands Cas is more than an attack dog and shows care for him, on a much much smaller scale, less fucked up, version of this relationship.
In 12x15 Cas doesn’t give much away to Kelvin, but after the mixtape conversation in 12x19 Dean only manages to convince Cas further that he should take on the burden of murdering Kelly for the sake of the planet without Dean being responsible for the death of an innocent, he tells Kelvin straight out exactly how much he values himself over the Winchesters and how much he cares about Heaven and his old sense of belonging that has long been lost since Hannah:
Kelvin: You’re doing the right thing, you know. Committing to Joshua’s plan, putting angelkind above the Winchesters. I mean, your reputation in Heaven is – Castiel: This has nothing to do with my reputation. I am doing this for the Winchesters. I-I stole the Colt to keep them out of this mission and to keep them safe from Dagon, and I – I will kill this girl so that Sam and Dean don’t have to.
His entire end of season drama spins from him choosing to deceive them and steal from them for their own safety and at his own expense, building on stuff that has been clearly communicated either negatively at Cas by villains, Mary while she’s upset, or through conversation and misunderstanding from Dean, and at this point he voices clearly that he is disposable and a tool that will be used on their behalf to protect them. 
And in the end when he reaches Kelly, he is MORE than a tool that kills for them; he has a heart and he spares her. 
Castiel: Please don’t thank me. I had a mission and I failed. 
Aka he was defining himself by his mission again, and feels worthless now he couldn’t protect them. He even falls back on letting Heaven tell him what to do, and TRYING to act as their tool to resolve this because maybe giving his service back over to them will help him achieve his personal goals. And working with Heaven, always, has been a partial loss of agency, even as a metaphorical loss in this battle.
Castiel: No, it isn’t. I used to believe in a plan. I used to believe that I had some mission. But I have been through enough now to know that everyone is just winging it. Some of us quite badly.
He expresses his loss of purpose and how he feels he’s failed again, this time in the context of not being able to be a tool for Heaven, following a plan where his agency didn’t matter. (Although 12x10 shows Cas in the past doing this and still flinching and showing us he always had that crack Naomi mentioned, which in 4x07 he expresses to Dean. And in this episode is how he can’t kill Kelly, because he DOES have agency and isn’t just a tool.) It’s all still in here, everything that’s ever been expressed on this subject about Cas before.
Castiel: I know. I wanted to keep you out of this. I-I was trying to keep you safe.Dean: You’re not our babysitter, Cas, okay? That is not your job. And when in our whole lives have we ever been safe? Castiel: This is my responsibility because it is my plan.
Dean specifically calls out Cas’s sense of obligation to them, because as with 10x09 and 11x23, he does understand SOME of what Cas goes through, just as in 4x07 their final conversation meant so much because Cas was literally summing up Dean’s entire life vs John’s orders, through his own experience with Heaven. 
He sort of understands but he doesn’t get just how worthless Cas feels or he’d be able to argue from another POV or to get right in deep explaining how he has felt in similar situations and empathise. He probably hasn’t been on directly the same page as Cas since 5x17 and that crappy fathers bonding moment, before their emotional paths began to complicate away from understanding each other again. He needs to understand the root of the depression and worthlessness and how he has his own part in it, which 12x01 showed very clearly through Mary, that Cas misinterprets Dean and doubts that they’re equal enough to trust his gestures of love (hence returning the mixtape as a symbolic gesture of that)
12x12′s demonstration of love just makes him more determined to be their guardian angel than to come home and eat pizza with them every night. Dean needs to address his own part in it rather than empty reassurances about Cas “babysitting” them. Mention of pizza and babysitter in this paragraph accidental. Sort of. :P Anyway that’s a surface level thing - that Dean thinks Cas is babysitting them and doesn’t think THEY can handle it despite evidence to the contrary of many averted apocalypses, or that Cas just thinks they need protection because they’re squishy humans and he’s an angel. He SAID out loud in 12x12 for them to leave so he didn’t have to watch them die, but I don’t think Dean has internalised this idea of how much Cas cares about them because his approach is not nuanced enough to understand why Cas keeps on slipping through his fingers this episode. Not because Dean doesn’t get nuance, but because he has missed the important parts where Cas is ground down to feel awful, and sees Cas as stronger than he really is, part of his own issues connecting to Cas or trusting his own feelings will be reciprocated there, as he still may not have Cas down from the angel pedestal he has him on, when he sees the surface layer of all this or assumes Cas understands him and his gestures (like just giving Cas a mixtape without making it clear beforehand it was a gift for Cas to keep, apparently).
I paralleled Cas’s feelings here to 6x20 and I think the confrontation is the same but as if Dean caught Cas during the raking leaves thing or soon after it. It hasn’t escalated yet but the reasoning Cas has for turning away and going with Crowley is the same reason he left with Kelvin and stole the Colt. The escalation follows when it goes out of control, and Kelly steals the car with Cas in it, the inevitable part in season 6 where Cas is beyond reach and helpless to the leviathans (though Jack in season 13 will probably be way less overtly evil, if at all if they get the win on this one). But yeah,in 12x19, think of the car as Cas and Kelly and Cas within it as parts of his psyche, which Kelly taking over and making off with him as the part of him bound to duty and and the Mission, and Cas in the backseat the reasonable, doubting, faithless Cas we know and love.
From there he has a loss of clear agency while helping Kelly, with Jack reaching through him and giving him the power to kill Dagon, picking him as a guardian angel and giving Cas a horrifying vision of blissful paradise and pure faith to influence him to help, which in this show’s language we just plain do not trust, no matter how Jack turns out, in the immediate moment of what happens to Cas, in the show’s language this is awful. And because of it Cas goes to his inevitable death to protect Kelly as a metaphor for his guardian angel problems, made clear across the season and drawing on his entire history of struggling with these things, and dies while fighting to protect the Winchesters from Lucifer at his own expense, a senseless rush in to fight and protect, where his own safety probably did not even cross his mind. 
SO to get to the actual question about how if/when Dean confronts Cas about this, and if it needs to be said (and I don’t need to answer “why not” in this case for how I see it >.>) I do think the entire thing is already in the text for us, and the entire point is Dean missing the point, the point being how much Cas loves him unreservedly and the point of doing literally anything to protect him because it’s a self-fulfilling prophecy of worthlessness and measuring his success in protecting Dean.
We’ve always generically as a fandom seemed to love the “angels are watching over you” line because we have felt like Cas was doing that for Dean in a way. It’s romantic to take as an innocent comment Cas will be there for Dean one day.
But I think this season took all the previous exploration of this which was already on the table, especially since the end of season 10/start of season 11 as an arc that directly affected Cas’s health, and turned Cas’s guardian angel instinct into something as directly bad for him as extreme codependency gestures are for Sam and Dean, like Sam in 8x23, I think Cas stealing the colt and telling Kelvin why is almost exactly as bad as Sam saying he doesn’t want to fail Dean and be replaced by someone Dean loves more than him. Or Dean’s speech in 2x22 before he sells his soul about how he always had to look out for Sam. I think this is actually all on the table for change and for Cas to hopefully come out of it healed, but I think mainly what Dabb era did was look at how broken Cas was in previous seasons and try and pick a direction to get him to that healing point, and season 12 was for getting him to the worst possible point of it in order for him to have a rock bottom to be reclaimed from and to show us how bad it could get, from hurting friends, to loss of agency, to death for Cas. Killing him for this reason would HOPEFULLY mean to bring him back with its weight symbolically killed from him.
(I also think Jack’s influence thankfully takes the burden of ruining Cas off of Dean’s shoulders somewhat but he still should ideally realise he’s done this to Cas, inadvertently, through misunderstanding.)
Anywho. If you read it like this, I think 12x19 absolutely laid out the entire thing from Cas’s side already, which is why it’s now Dean with the onus to realise and have the similar confrontation as 12x22 with Mary. Like I said, it’s a long term thing for Cas so I think there are some things which may get resolved while he’s dead that probably won’t relate directly to Dean and it may not be until, like, the end of season 13 or something until Dean can talk to Cas and work it out, but I think the text has been plainly saying how Cas feels and what’s wrong with him in incredibly big writing, and Cas himself expressed many of these things out loud or said things that will be easily taken to be a part of this sorry collection. It’s definitely not mysterious to me, or something I feel that Cas has to say much more about to make it obvious, anyway.
I suppose he will probably express how he feels another time anyway, but I think all the groundwork has been very clearly laid and the putting together and drawing conclusions we do is very much from the surface text of what I feel the show has been trying to convey about Cas’s feelings all along. When you ignore the Destiel elements of many of these moments (because somehow that makes it more subtext and people won’t credit what you’re saying as main text) specifically for Cas’s mental health, the picture is clear enough I don’t think anyone would say it’s only subtext or that there’s serious work we have to do to understand it, when Cas had PTSD flashbacks on screen at one point, and continually expresses his lack of worth or has his lack of worth told to him. Again, I wouldn’t think it’s a surprise or something deep down in the text that has not been clearly told to us already, many times.
And since this has been almost entirely a Cas and Dean problem, I would expect this to have to resolve around Dean and not Sam or Sam n Dean or Mary or anything else. Which is why I think the actual resolution will come from Dean’s realisations about it and using him to talk Cas through it, because Cas himself has felt or been told ALL these things in very negative ways already, and I think he needs a friend to help him out. But like with Mary, something that’s already clearly in the text about WHY Dean needs to help him.
