Dehiscence
(( DWC August 2024 Day 5, Mistake/Wild, CW: None; @daily-writing-challenge ))
Lorellai leaned back over the back of her seat at the cafe, taking a moment to rest. The memories had been relentless, leaving the adventurers and mercenaries to work in shifts to keep them from spreading or threatening settlements. "I swear, if I have to hear that Fizzlebang speech one more time-"
"Come now, according to the records his summoning was a true triumph, save for the part where it killed him," a voice interrupted her, leading her to open one eye to take in the humble looking form of Dagran Thaurissan the second, and then causing her to start and nearly overbalance her chair.
"Oh, um, Dagran, I mean, your highness, I mean, mister Thaurissan-" she started, as he quickly started waving his hands at her.
"Oh please none of that, I get enough of it back home whenever we hire new staff. Just Dagran is fine between you and I. Might I join you? If you aren't too tired that is. I'd love to hear about your work in the dragon isles."
"Oh, um, sure?" Lorellai replied, feeling off balance but motioning to one of the other chairs at the table.
Time seemed to fly by afterwards, as Dagran hungrily soaked up her stories from the Dragonscale expedition, particularly the titan ruins she'd gotten to delve. It flew by so fast, in fact, that both young dwarves lost track of it, until a shadow fell across the table.
"Dagran." Moira's voice was cold steel. "Come away this instant."
They both turned to see the queen looming over them, her displeasure evident on her face, Brann behind her with an apologetic shrug. "I was just getting to know one of Ironforge's champions. There's no harm in that." Dagran replied, evenly, even as he rose. Lorellai noticed him fidgeting with his rings. Was he as nervous about this as she was?
"Not with a Truthhammer there isn't. Go with your granduncle and help him with your grand'da."
"Of course, mother. Lorellai, it was a pleasure," Dagran said, pushing in his chair and joining Brann, leaving Lorellai's gaze trapped by Moira's.
"I, uh, I meant nae offense, yer majes-" Lorellai began, before she was cut off.
"You will stay away from my son. I'm not blind, girl. I see that thing you're carrying," she said, gesturing at Lorellai's holster. "Whatever plan you and your father have cooked up, I won't have it. Abandon your schemes and we'll have no more to discuss. Have I made myself clear?"
"But I haven't do-" "Have. I made myself. Clear?" Moira continued, leaning in close, shadowy magic shining in her eyes.
".. clear, yer majesty."
"Good then. Best of luck in the field to you, Champion." Moira said, pulling back and straightening her dress, before turning on her heel and leaving Lorellai at her table, feeling like a rabbit in Dun Morogh that just encountered a bear.
----------------------
When Moira returned to Magni's side, Dagran was waiting for her with a thoughtful expression on his face. As she sat, he began to continue their signed conversation.
"That was rather uncalled for, Mother."
"Oh?" Moira replied, kneeling at Magni's side. "Was it? To pull you away from the daughter of your father's murderer, even as she flaunts the very weapon that took him from us?"
"She is not Drogar Truthhammer, mother. No more than I am you, or you are Grand'da. And more to the point, the Truthhammer clan's opposition to the Dark Irons faded to nothing years ago. I would see the rift allowed to heal."
"So you're doing this as a King." Moira said, causing Brann to start, wondering what she was talking about.
"I am. You trusted me with the shield. Trust me with this."
"I cannae forgive what he took from us. He would have seen us all dead." Moira replied, tears threatening to escape her eyes as she thought back to that day, her gaze locked with the madman who'd gunned down her husband, and who tried to shoot her as he fled.
"A sin that is his and his alone to bear. If she carries his, then so to do I carry Father's. Is that what you want for me?"
Brann gently laid his hand over Moira's. "You've raised a good son, lass. Wise and clever."
"... Fine," she said at last. "I'll not interfere. But I won't pretend to like it."
Dagran's fingers danced on the book of stories he was opening. "That's all I ask for," he told her, as he began to read the tale of Modimus Anvilmar's ascension to the throne of Ironforge to Magni's comatose form.

Would've,Could've, Should've
Full Masterlist | Marvel Masterlist
Summary: Breakups were always hard, no doubt about that. But your breakup with Pietro was especially hard. With being a superhero, comes great responsibility and consequences. The two of you had fought before a big mission that almost cost your lives. Ever since the mission fell through, it seems that both of you are beginning to regret your relationship.
Notes:
Y/N/N: Your Nick Name
Mentions of Ultron (Pietro obviously survives in this imagine:))
Your Super Hero Name and Abilities -> Glitch, Environment Manipulation (looks almost like a tv screen glitch)
Your Suit
Warnings:
Injuries, blood, things like that
Long Imagine
Pietro Maximoff x-reader
If you would've blinked then I would've looked away at the first glance If you tasted poison, you could've spit me out at the first chance If I was some paint, did it splatter? On a promising grown man? And if I was a child, did it matter If you got to wash your hands?
(Four Weeks Earlier - Third Person View)
Pietro followed after Y/N, forgetting that he had the ability to run faster than a normal man. "Hey, hey. Could you just stop walking away from me for one second?" Pietro said. He appeared in front of Y/N with his hands out. Y/N stopped walking, she quirked a brow.
The two of them had just finished a meeting discussing their next mission. Which involved an individual leaking the names of S.H.I.E.L.D agents. The heroes' goal was to infiltrate that group and defeat them before things got worse. Pietro was unsettled at the fact that Y/N would be the one co-leading the mission with Steve.
It wasn't the fact that he was nervous his girlfriend was the leader. It was the fact that this mission was more dangerous than they believed. He knew Y/N was capable of taking care of herself, but he had no intention of having an argument about it. "Why'd you say yes?" Pietro asked.
Her brows furrowed when he asked. Y/N had been waiting for this opportunity since she became an Avenger three years ago. "Why would you even be asking me that?" Y/N responded. Now, it was Pietro's turn to furrow his brows. He waved to a few agents that passed.
Y/N's boyfriend set a hand on her arm, bringing her away from everyone that walked past. They stood in the middle of a small hallway with a tall window at the end, overlooking the front of the compound. "Pietro, I know what to do," Y/N claimed, "I've been preparing for this for over two months. And, you know that, so I don't have to tell you."
"You could get hurt," Pietro said. "We run that risk every day," Y/N responded, "We were born or made with targets on our backs." Pietro lowered his head, his eyes landing on the tiled flooring.
Ooh, oh All I used to do was pray Would've, could've, should've If you'd never looked my way
He ran a hand through his hair and lowered his arm after looking at Y/N. "If I can help take down the group that plans to expose every agent, then it's worth that target on my back," Y/N continued.
She looked at him for a second before stepping aside but was stopped when Pietro grabbed her hand. "I can't let you," Pietro said. "That's not for you to decide," Y/N answered. She ripped her hand out of his grip. Pietro stood there with his mouth closed, not saying a word.
I would've stayed on my knees And I damn sure never would've danced with the devil at nineteen And God's honest truth is that the pain was heaven And now that I'm grown, I'm scared of ghosts Memories feel like weapons And now that I know, I wish you'd left me wondering
_________
(Four Weeks Later - Third Person View)
"Sam, Y/N and I will go in from the side," Steve said, "Wanda, Nat, Bucky. You'll go in from the front. Tony and Pietro, you two enter from the back. While Bruce and Clint are our eyes and ears. We'll need to go on different sides, in the shadows, basically." Y/N stood beside him with Wanda to her left. Pietro and Y/N hadn't spoken since their argument, which later caused their break up.
It had been a long four weeks, long four agonizing weeks for Pietro. Y/N didn't want any distractions but part of her knew that breaking up with Pietro was already a distraction in itself.
"Tommy Jackson, the individual under watch, should be on the second level. The third room on the right," Steve explained.
He pointed to the screen in which Tommy's picture appeared. His name, birthday, characteristics, and appearance were listed. "What we're not aware of is the number of guys Tommy has," Y/N added, "But we do know that Tommy will leave to meet with someone at nine-thirty. That's when Pietro will step in as the person Tommy's meeting."
Pietro nodded in agreement. He glanced her way, averting his eyes when she looked back at him. "Pietro, is that going to be a problem?" Steve questioned, noticing Y/N's boyfriend glimpse at her. "No," Pietro shook his head. "Good," Steve sighed. The screen shut off with the lights turning back to white.
Steve looked around to see if anyone had questions. Nobody spoke up, meaning nobody had anything to say. "We leave in ten," Steve instructed, "Meet at the Quinjet when ready. On the way to the building, we'll repeat the plan and make sure everyone knows what to do." Everyone dispersed.
(Y/N's Point of View)
I walked down the hallway with Steve walking beside me. "You sure you're okay with doing this?" he questioned. I nodded. When I stepped into my room, Pietro was sitting there. His hands rested on his knees, his eyes strained on the floor.
If you never touched me, I would've gone along with the righteous If I never blushed, then they could've never whispered about this And if you never saved me from boredom I could've gone on as I was, but, Lord, you made me feel important. And then you tried to erase us
His eyes met mine. I ignored his look and walked over to my closet to grab my suit. Pietro watched me type in a code. A cabinet slid forward with my suit on a supportive top. The suit was glowing blue from the light that came from the compartment. "What're you doing here?" I took my jacket off.
I set the leather jacket on a hanger, putting it on the hook. Pietro sighed and stood up from the edge of my bed. "I wanted to talk to you," he answered. "You decided to talk to me right before one of our most important missions?" I retorted, turning to look at him. I walked past him.
He sighed yet again and followed me with his eyes as I grabbed my suit. Pietro set his hands into the pockets of his sweatpants. "I'm sorry," he said. I rolled my eyes. "I appreciate the apology, I really do, but I need to think to myself before I lead this thing," I replied. Pietro slowly nodded and let me be.
A couple minutes passed and it was time. As discussed, everyone met in front of the jet. It didn't take long until everyone arrived, each wearing their suits. "Does anyone have any questions before Y/N and I repeat?" Steve asked as the jet flew out of the compound.
"We've got it, Steve," Nat reassured, "We stay in the shadows. Wanda and I we'll take care of the security cameras. And everyone else will do their part." Steve thanked her and glanced at me, asking if there was anything for me to add. I shook my head in reply.
You're a crisis of my faith Would've, could've, should've If I'd only played it safe
_________
(Later - Tommy Jackson's Base)
Sam kept his gun pointed at the ground when we landed in our planned spot. "Everyone in their positions?" Steve asked, setting a hand on the side of his face. The others replied with a yes. I nodded my head and opened the side door.
"All clear," I muttered. They followed me down the hall, looking both ways. "Bruce, how we looking?" Sam questioned. "Two coming to your left," Bruce answered. Just as he said, two men in uniform turned the corner. I twisted my hand, the floor breaking and 'glitching' from underneath them.
The two guards fell through the floor, their shouts cutting short when I closed the concrete. "Always forget you can do that," Sam commented from beside me. "You and me both," I responded, smiling. "Okay. Sam, Y/N, Steve. You three are free to proceed," Clint stated.
We walked with our ears and eyes open. Nat and Wanda had successfully interrupted the security cameras. "Sam, Steve, Y/N. You're heading towards the second level," Clint said, "Tony and Pietro, stay aside. You're on the second level. Don't engage."
Sam led me and Steve up the stairs. He held up a hand, stopping us from going any further. Sam slowly opened the door and gave us the 'okay'. We continued with Clint's and Bruce's directions. Things soon went sideways after that.
When Bruce made it clear not to engage, Pietro engaged. Pietro surprised Tommy, hurting the culprit and himself in the process.
I would've stayed on my knees And I damn sure never would've danced with the devil At nineteen And the God's honest truth is that the pain was heaven And now that I'm grown, I'm scared of ghosts Memories feel like weapons And now that I know, I wish you'd left me wondering
_________
(Two Days Later - At The Compound)
After the mission, Pietro had been taken off the group for a few weeks as punishment. And Y/N was still furious at him. The two stood in front of one another, trying to hash things out, but it didn't seem that anything was being 'hashed out'. "I can't believe you did that," Y/N said, "You messed the whole thing up."
Pietro scoffed, running a hand through his hair. He stopped walking with his hands on his hips. He looked at Y/N, not really knowing what to say. "I did it to protect you," Pietro said. Y/N scoffed as well and shook her head in disagreement. She went back to folding some clothes.
"Bullshit," Y/N said, "I understand all of that. But it's the fact that we had it under control. I had it under control. And you had to jump in and ruin everything."
She closed her eyes, sighing heavily. Pietro watched her think to herself before continuing to speak. "If-if we hadn't started this," she gestured to them, "This relationship, we wouldn't be having this conversation. And, we certainly wouldn't have broke up."
God rest my soul. I miss who I used to be The tomb won't close, stained glass windows in my mind I regret you all the time I can't let this go. I fight with you in my sleep The wound won't close. I keep on waiting for a sign I regret you all the time
His eyes trailed away from the ground to meet hers. Pietro's expression seemed to soften. "So, years of tearing down walls to be together? Or being with you to the point it hurt? That's all for nothing," he used his hands as he spoke. Pietro chuckled softly.
Yet another sigh escaped the two of them, looking at each other. Y/N waited till either of them spoke but neither did. She glanced to the side to avoid eye contact. "And I sure as hell wouldn't have asked you out right when you were recruited," Pietro added. I looked up from the carpet, finally meeting his eyes.
God rest my soul. I miss who I used to be The tomb won't close, stained glass windows in my mind I regret you all the time I can't let this go. I fight with you in my sleep The wound won't close, I keep on waiting for a sign I regret you all the time
He stared at me for a few seconds before walking over to the door. Pietro set a hand on the doorknob, looking over his shoulder at me. He looked like he was going to say something but decided against it. I saw his eyes shift to the ground, then open and close the bedroom door.

musing about tesla (trimax vol 7)
idk, i feel like this deserves its own post, because i've been thinking so much about her.
cw for... discussion of everything that comes with the tesla territory under the cut.
so, after conrad accepts vash and knives, knives is fully confident that they can get along with humans. and in THAT moment, he sees tesla.
now, in tristamp it said she was alive, but i'm not sure if she's also alive in the manga...? (schrodinger's girl...) i mean i know the report says her "physical functions have ceased," but i ask because... is this a choice she made? like, we know plants can communicate telepathically, so is that what she's doing? showing vash and knives a vision leading them to the truth? or is this like... a ghost/remnant/lingering memory of her (something like in the previous volume when vash saw a vision of knives killing conrad after knives had already left)? because if she is alive... this is the only thing she's ever done - ever been able to do - by her own will. the only action tesla takes, the only agency she has. she wanted the twins to know the truth.
the actual report on tesla is just... i don't even have the right word for it. cruel. detached. clinical. inhuman. calling her a subject and a specimen. they even acknowledge that she's sapient, yet they carried on with the experiments. it's just fucking cold.
like. no wonder rem was so keen on keeping the twins a secret. only she and conrad opposed the experiments, and the other four (i'm assuming four even though we only see three) continued to torture this little girl. (sorry for the crude diagram lol)
the report totals 229 days - seven and a half months - and they never once thought of her as a person. a "question of ethics" was brought up at the day 100 mark (presumably thanks to rem and conrad) but they never change the language they use for her. even on the page i used above, where they're all remembering what they did to tesla, it's not clear how much they regret what happened, or if they wouldn't do it again given the choice. rem certainly doesn't seem to trust them. and in the brief time we see these people, they joke around, show emotions, act human as they are, one of them even hugs rem before going back into cold sleep - you would never guess the depths of the cruelty they were (are) capable of.
i've decided i love tesla and i want to know everything about her. who she would've been as a person. her likes and dislikes. times when she laughed and times when she cried. all taken from her. she could have grown up and helped raise vash and knives. she was never allowed to be a person. she was never given the choice of how to feel about humanity - all she knew was torture. we'll never know her, and vash and knives will never know their sister. all they (and we) have is a cruel, clinical report. tesla herself was never able to know either.
knives's hatred and desire for revenge, as twisted and cruel as he would become himself, was fueled by his anger at her abuse. truly, she is haunting the narrative. a ghost of what could have been. a character defined by absence.
#trigunbookclub#trigun talk#june speaks#i'm not saying anything that hasn't been said before but. OUGH

Armand's little celebratory smirk after Daniel said the line has been rotating in my brain since Saturday
i've been thinking about that infamous Alice theory, still doesn't make any sense to me. there has to be documentation? Daniel is a known person, i'm just ??? also, why bother and go for such drastic measures? why change one memory for the another, and not just erase it like the attack?
the main arguments from 2×02 being: — 70s flashback — 'You feel freer to hold her hand in Paris. I wonder why that is' line
already wrote about the 2×02 flashback above, but have more thoughts. it's not just a random recollection. In it, Armand violates Daniel's mind, just like Louis in the present.
Armand or Louis? (they're working together now, remember?) uses this technique again to unsettle and control Daniel, so the interview flows in its intended direction. basically pulled the rug under Daniel's feel to reinforce Louis' attack. total disorientation, submission, and defeat. Louis calls him 'Danny', he's still there, their boy. but it's also a reminder. they had literally discussed this at the end of 2×01 episode. nice job boys, 1-1
in s1, the flashback was also frightening and disorienting, but the reasoning behind it felt a bit different, leaning towards distraction (also control). Personally, i think that Armand had used distraction through s1, but ended the season with intimidation.
For example: Armand drops the 'electronic mailbox', leads Dan to the library, hits with 'we suggest' instead of I or he, then interrupts Daniel's investigation with music/prayer. what happens next? Daniel's focus is no longer on Claudia's diaries, he's distracted by Rashid. especially by Armand's misstep? 'electronic mailbox'.
after s1 70s flashback, Daniel gets so agitated by this sudden memory he's not sure if it's real or just a dream, he can barely focus on Louis. instead, yep, he's distracted by Rashid and the unsteady ground that is his past. perfect, the interview is disrupted! Armand even has his little demonstration, walking in front of the sun with Dr. Fareed (love how Armand checks on Daniel to make sure he saw it, extra), teasing Dan with the phone call. yes, look at me! Louis is the one to pull Dan's attention back to the interview. (Armand acted alone?)
Armand had to change tactics since he got unveiled. besides, distraction isn't effective, it just simply doesn't work for long. it slows the process and fuels Daniel even more. not saying that aggression will, that man is beyond help. from the teasers we know that Daniel is clearly aware of the situation 'to get out of there alive', and also begs Louis to help him remember what had happened to them in the 70s 'for me' yet another danlou parallel 😭
plan B. loumand work together. Armand with the starting point, 'It's Alice, Louis, not Claudia.' Louis follows. notice how Armand doesn't say a word after that? his job is done. for now. fishing rod in the head. Armand casts out, Louis reels in. idk if i'm using these terms correctly, had to look it up lol
love how they straight up threaten Dan at the end lol Louis: 'Would you like to know what she thinks of you now? If she thinks of you now? We could do that.' Armand: 'Or we could simply return to the interview.' be professional Daniel, you got way too comfortable, or we'll be mean about your ex and 70s attack/memory loss. you know, things you're sensitive about.
good cop bad cop manipulation on Dan at the end? did i just witness these old ass vamps call Dan a misogynist?
we're only two eps in so I'm focusing on the result of these flashbacks rn. trying to figure out the meaning can be misleading, but what do i know this is nonsense
---
about the 'You feel freer to hold her hand in Paris. I wonder why that is' line. i'm bad at interpreting shit tbh, especially with hidden meanings, symbolism, metaphors, etc. i struggle with my brain taking things, if they're not obvious, too literally, no matter how hard i try
maybe Alice is not white (could parallel the beginning of the episode). or Paris is the city of love, where being affectionate on public is okay for men like Daniel. still thinking about its meaning tbh. misogyny is def in the room with us
p.s. about the eyebrow thing. guys, Daniel was literally talking about Louis 😭lou
has anyone made a // between 1x05 and 2x02?
Daniel disrespects and aggressively violates Louis' boundaries. He mocks Louis' memories and his will to protect them. Understandably, Louis lashes back. Both times, Armand interferes (because he saves Louis from himself). This time Louis even haunts Daniel with a 70s flashback, because as we know, it was a very traumatic moment of Daniel's life. And the fact that he doesn't remember it, makes it even more frightening and upsetting.
I don't think it was about devil's minion, or Alice. Just the most pain inducing moments of Daniel's life. These two keep digging fingers into each other's wounds, almost like s- *gunshot*
#i have mutuals who support this theory. i'm not attacking you. i'm just trying to rationalize this whole thing (as a dv girlie)#another thing i can't stop thinking about is the 3D chess thing. Louis is definitely playing his own game#need to rewatch s1. fake fan#interview with the vampire#iwtv meta#haven't read the erotica. can only imagine how bad it is. i'm not doing it sorry#sorry for my english btw#danlou#loumand#iwtv speculation#vampchives

Many of you are wondering whether it is worth saving a new stat, and what will happen to the favorites, given the events that ended the first season. Regarding Energy, the answer will be given in my soon interview, and I'll write about the favorites here,
I spoke to the management and we decided that it would be better not to elaborate on anything outside of the scope of the novel, I understand your desire to know how things will be, but we would prefer that the information be revealed sequentially, as the story progresses. So from now on, when asked if we'll see each other again with the love lines introduced in Season 1, I'm going to say: "This is a spoiler."
I hope you stay with Theodora anyway and continue the journey with her. Hugs!
————————————————————
I looked at your discussions, and they themselves suggest certain thoughts to me. Often I see something like: “May they not kill the favorites, what are we, wasting diamonds on them in vain?”
Now let's forget for a moment the context in which this comment comes up—by that I mean that the following text does not confirm or refute anything specifically in the case of "Theodora". I want to talk about the very idea of “wasting diamonds” because I don’t quite understand what “wasting” means. It seems to me that such a formulation is not entirely ... fair, or something.
So, what do you get in return for your hard-earned diamonds, aside from character relationship improvements that could potentially lead to an ending with them:
Chapters get longer;
Very often you have the opportunity to see additional art content, and this includes not only cut-scenes, but also backgrounds, characters, outfits / hairstyles, objects. So, for example, for the scene-memories of Theodora about the family, we needed to draw four variations of her father, mother and brother - a lot of resources were spent on this
Exclusive gaming experience and "immediate" emotions—by this I mean some butterflies in the stomach, which, I dare say, you can feel while reading, for example, an intimate scene. Yes, they also improve relationships with the characters, but beyond that they are meant to make you feel right now, as you read;
You support the story and its author—and we really appreciate it, believe me.
Phew, I spoke up. Thank you all 😄
#romance club#theodora#🙃🙃🙃 at them deciding to keep hush about s1 LIs tho#like i love the pain and suspense#but i was so sure we were gonna see them again... now I'm not as sure 🧍🏽#*insert standing vlad emoji*#theo is far from a waste of diamonds come on now

How Does Eating Humans Work?
Hello, Gotou here. We’re shamelessly borrowing from the format of a KnY Fanbook #2 comic to launch an investigation into demon metabolism and development by crossing the Sanzu River again to interview demons in the underworld. While we’ll be using canon materials as a base, the analysis and conjecture herein is personal, so we ask for your understanding. Also, please note that consuming any food in the underworld will make you unable to return, and we cannot promise your safety even though the interview subjects are dead, so please come along at your own risk.
Some of the questions we’d like to answer are, why do demons need to eat humans? How much do they need to eat to survive? Are there factors that influence how eating humans makes them stronger? If they don’t want to kill humans, what are their other options? We’ve rounded up some special guests below the cut (hidden for length and grossness), everyone from the lowly Temple Demon to the lovely Tamayo, to see what their actions in canon might tell us.
First, a review of what canon tells us, mostly as summarized in Fanbook #2: 1. With one exception named Yushirou, all demons were created by Kibutsuji Muzan, for his own purposes. They all have some amount of his blood, and can be divided into four classes depending on how powerful they are. From top to bottom, the Upper Moons, the Lower Moons, demons with special abilities, and other demons without any special characteristics. 2. Demons may be stronger depending on how much of Kibutsuji Muzan’s blood they have. Most beings’ cannot handle a large amount of his blood, and it will rupture the cells and that being will die, but there are demons who adapt well to it. 3. Typically, sunlight is the only way to kill a demon, by either bathing them in sunlight or cutting of their head with a Nichirin blade. However, there are powerful demons for whom chopping off their head does not work, and if it’s strong enough, demons can also be killed by wisteria poison.
4. Demons eat human blood and flesh. The more they eat, the stronger they become, and the faster their regenerative abilities become. Some humans have “Marechi,” a rare blood type, which is especially nutritious to demons, and eating one Marechi is the equivalent of eating several humans.
That’s an interesting thing we’d like to come back to, especially since we’re looking for quantitative information about how demons gain nutrition (though I have my doubts we'll get enough for statistical analysis). As an interesting note, Fanbook #2 also tells us that if demons try to consume the same edibles humans do, they’ll vomit it back up.
I’m told that Miss Tamayo drinks tea, though. That’ll be an interesting question for later. In my notes, it seems she’s also explained to Tanjirou back in Chapter 15 that demons will normally go berserk if they go a long time without consuming any blood or flesh. Berserk is one thing, but I wonder if they can starve to death? We’ll see if these canon clues will lead us to anything. We’ll begin now in an interview format. Hopefully this will go smoothly, but I’ve got a feeling it won’t. First up, we’ve the Temple Demon.
Temple: Who were you calling ‘lowly’ just now? Up there, above the cut?
Gotou: That was in a literal sense, not having Blood Techniques means you’re in the bottom common tier of demons.
Temple: Argh. Fine. What do you want to know?
Gotou: In Chapter 2, you were spotted with three human victims. However, it seems you left their bodies mostly intact and only ate small parts instead of consuming one full human at a time. Could you comment on this?
Temple: I’d have gotten to more later if that whelp with the strong legs didn’t interrupt me! Who’s got time to eat entire humans anyway? I went for the easy stuff first.
Gotou: I see. It appears you might had focused on key organs, like the heart and the liver. Would you say these are especially nutritionally dense?
Temple: I guess. If I’m going to eat humans, I’m going to start with what’s worth bothering to digest. Blood’s easier on the stomach, so that’s what I was busy with on the lady there.
Gotou: Then it takes effort to digest? Hmm. Let’s come back to this later. How many humans would you say you consumed, including these three?
Temple: Not a lot… I tried to get a variety so I could get stronger faster, but…
Gotou: I’ll put down a guess as ten or less. Let’s move on to someone who has a sharper memory for numbers. One of our longer-lived guests at Mt. Fujikasane for 47 years, the Hand Demon. While most of the demons on the mountain had only eaten two or three humans, you’ve eaten a whole 50 of the children who headed into the Final Selection, didn’t you?
Hand: Yes, that’s right. It was hard at first since I wasn’t very strong, and the demons usually all went crazy there eating each other, just like that one brat who got away in Chapter 7 said. If you could manage to kill any of the kids, you had the other demons to fight off to even get a piece to yourself. That was enough to get me by, and stronger, little by little. Your body learns to make your meals last, and make the most of what you can get. I usually only had a bite of one child a year, can you imagine how horrible that was? Most demons who survive usually figure out some way to develop and survive better, and once my cells found something that worked for me, I kept doing it. I got really good at snatching away prey from other demons, and soon enough I was a bigger threat than any of them. None of them could, you might say, lay a hand on me.
Gotou: That’s an interesting point about self-development. A demon named Nezuko was spent two years doing that in her sleep.
Hand: She must have had a big meal before that!
Gotou: Well, anyway. It seems that in near starving conditions, your metabolism made the most of what you had, leading to the most efficient use of whatever food was available to you.
Hand: That’s right, I got really good at it. Wasn’t always pretty, but I made it work. I got to a point where I could go two years without eating and still keep my wits about me while the other demons were going mad. But I chose to eat. I liked to keep my appetite for specific children.
Gotou: That smile is not reassuring. Some humans taste better than others, I guess?
Hand: That’s for sure. This one kid tasted awful, like rust and man sweat! I still don’t have that disgusting taste out of my mouth! But he was one of my more satisfying meals, so I ate more of him.
Gotou: Then why would you… nevermind, I don’t like that smile, no further questions. While I had hoped to keep these interviews focused on quantities of humans consumed, it does seem personal taste is worth asking about. I had tried to invite a Swamp Demon from Chapter 11, but it kept arguing with itself and it felt like I’d be wasting my time. The one definite thing I learned was that this demon is picky, with a distinct preference for 16-year-old girls. Based on the number of trinkets he kept, it seems he had consumed at least seventeen of them, including several in one town. Sheesh, that’s sort of a rough mission to send a first-timer on. I’ve got a more cooperative guest here to discuss her tastes, a Snake Demon who, according to Chapter 188, has a special taste for baby flesh.
Snake: Thank you for having me here. It’s good to be appreciated again.
Gotou: Did you only eat babies?
Snake: Goodness, no. Babies are delicious, but they aren’t very nutritious. And their skulls certainly aren’t that big, the ones I lounged around with were from the people whom I killed and stole from. But you know the nice thing about baby skulls? They’re still soft. They take a long time to digest, but I can swallow them whole.
Gotou: Like… like a snake, then. Sorry, I’m a little ill hearing that. Let’s back up, were all those skulls the remains of adults you ate, then?
Snake: Meh, I ate some of them of better-looking ones, but most of them I only killed. I could usually kill a lot more at a time than I could bother eating, my killing record was fifty women all at once.
Gotou: And you didn’t find that wasteful?
Snake: Wasteful? Not at all. I wasn’t exactly in dire straits, I lived a more luxurious life than most demons do. That meant I could afford to wait for a truly delicious meal, like how you humans might leave something in a slow-cooker to enjoy the perfect combination of doneness and tenderness, plated in the most appetizing of ways.
Gotou: I guess demons and humans are similar in that regard.
Snake: I’m so glad you can relate! Then you understand the frustration of a meal you’ve be preparing for years opening up the slow-cooker and running away right when they were just about done.
Gotou: I have never had that experience.
Snake: I’ll get you, my pretty. And your little snake, too.
Gotou: I think we might have gotten a little off-topic here. It does seem digesting humans comes with some difficulty. I’d like to invite the Drum Demon in next. Your name is Kyougai, I hear?
Kyougai: !!
Gotou: Kyogai, right?
Kyougai: You’ve heard of me! You know my name!
Gotou: I happened to, yes.
Kyougai: What have you heard???
Gotou: That you were kicked out of the Lower Moons for being unable to consume enough humans.
Kyougai: Oh. ……..yeah, that’s me.
Gotou: I thought demons go berserk if they go a long time without consuming humans. Wouldn’t that make an inability to consume them problematic?
Kyougai: It wasn’t that I couldn’t eat them! Like I said in Chapter 24, I had to in order to sustain myself, just like any other demon. But, at some point, I couldn’t eat as much as I used to. That happens to humans too, doesn’t it? When you just can’t stomach anymore?
Gotou: You mean like when you’ve overeaten? In a human’s case that feeling may go away within a few hours.
Kyougai: Sort of like that, but you know, humans reach a time when nothing is appetizing or the thought of eating makes them feel sick, right? Isn’t that the human condition?
Gotou: …uh… maybe if they have a medical condition? Or anxiety? Do demons get anxiety? Or eating disorders?
Kyougai: I… I don’t know. I just wasn’t good enough.
Gotou: I think it’s plenty good if you stopped eating humans. Though to have developed Blood Techniques and been a Lower Moon in the first place, you must had eaten a great number of them.
Kyougai: You think I’m great?
Gotou: What?
Kyougai: No, sorry, I was getting ahead of myself. It’s true, I used to be able to eat as many as the other Lower Moons always consumed. Our stomachs were stronger, you might say. Demons got strong by eating humans, and then the more you did that the better you usually got at it, so the strong ones would eat more and more and keep getting stronger and stronger. At least, that’s how it usually worked. I’ve seen other demons below me reached that point too, where they feel the drive to eat, but then they have trouble digesting it for a long time, so they don’t wind up eating that many people.
Gotou: Then it would make sense to eat the most nutritionally dense parts first.
Kyougai: Or a Marechi.
Gotou: Yes, or a Marechi.
Kyougai: It was a great idea, wasn’t it?
Gotou: I cannot condone any consumption of humans as a good idea.
Kyougai: I knew it. I’m nothing. Go ahead, stomp all over everything I ever tried to accomplish.
Gotou: I think I’m going to move on to my next interviewee now. It looks like we’ve got… oh, would you look at this? Lower Moon One. Enmu, I believe.
Enmu: You can believe whatever you want. I’m happy to help.
Gotou: I don’t need any help, thanks. I’m curious, since you were one of the stronger demons out there, it seems you had a stronger capacity for consuming humans.
Enmu: I did, I was always careful and paced myself so the Demon Slayers wouldn’t notice me. I took my time. I liked to enjoy e-e-e-a-c-h one.
Gotou: Then you had tastes too? Like babies, or 16-year-old girls?
Enmu: I could season any human to my liking. They’re all very easy to prepare.
Gotou: I’m still trying to get quantitative data. Can you tell me at least a rough estimate of how many humans you consumed?
Enmu: I told this more precisely to that boy with the earrings back in Chapter 59, and I can tell you this too. At my best, I could had eaten over two-hundred people at once if I took my time.
Gotou: OH MY GAW----sorry, I dropped my pen. Two hundred, at once?
Enmu: Yes. If I had just. Had. A little. More. Time.
Gotou: Clearly there is a huge difference between what common demons are capable of and what the Twelve Moons are capable of.
Daki: Psh, those were all any random common people. That’s nothing to brag about.
Gotou: Excuse me, and you are?
Daki: Daki, Upper Moon Six. You want something really impressive, you talk to the Upper Moons.
Gotou: I’m sorry, I don’t see you on my list.
Daki: What! Your list is stupid. Look me in the eyes, I’m Upper Moon Six!
Gotou: Very well, then. What can you tell me about your diet, Miss Upper Moon Six?
Daki: That’s more like it. It’s true that digestion takes a while, and takes some effort. Even though we Upper Moons may have eaten hundreds of people in our lifetimes, it’s not as if we gorge ourselves. The clever ones among us save prey for later to eat when we feel ready for it.
Gotou: Food storage? How do you keep them fresh?
Daki: You leave them still alive, numbskull. Nobody wants to eat something cold, that’s gross.
Gotou: I see, so that’s why demons prefer to go after new kills instead of saving what they’ve already managed to kill. That also might explain why the demons on Mt. Fujikasane wouldn’t had eaten many humans, if they found long dead ones in edible.
Daki: You want to know the real secret to eating humans? You can eat what you find tastes good, sure. But to get stronger, you eat strong people. Like your Corp members, the ones besides chumps like you? Using all that Breath makes their muscles really lean and potent, it’s like they come offering themselves as protein bars for us.
Gotou: You make them sound like a fad diet…
Daki: The real secret is eating Pillars. Besides Marechi, they’re the strongest meals out there. Guess how many I’ve eaten?
Gotou: I don’t have the data to make an educated guess.
Daki: Then get educated! Look back at Chapter 88! I’ve eaten seven Pillars, and my brother has eaten fifteen!
Gotou: Your brother? Who is he, then, Upper Moon Five?
Daki: What? Ew. Gross. Gross! No way, ew!
Gotou: Hmm… eating Pillars, huh? Well, I can think of one Pillar who was…
Douma: Me too!
Gotou: Speak of the devil.
Douma: Actually, we Upper Moons can! And he's not Satan, that's not how this works. But I guess Muzan-sama’s curse doesn’t effect us now. Ask me anything you want!
Gotou: That Chapter 143 reference was such a rude entrance. I understand that Pillars are particularly nutritious—
Douma: Oh, please don’t misunderstand! I don’t even eat all the Pillars I’ve encountered. There was the one Flower Pillar who got away from me, but some of the boy pillars I just leave around. What’s really the key to consistent nutritional intake is women! It’s really unhealthy for a demon not to get enough women in their diet, that’s why even if you’re only looking for Marechi or Pillars, your metabolism is going to get thrown out of whack with sudden big meals. You grow a stronger metabolism with consistency, I believe!
Gotou: If I could stop you there, I had an image from Chapter 142 I preferred to focus on for this case study. I see you keep a wide collection of skulls, from victims whom I assume you ate.
Douma: Yes, they all stayed together inside me for eternity, but the room looked lonely without décor.
Gotou: It seems other demons usually go for nutritionally dense organs like hearts or livers, or easy to digest parts of the body, perhaps just blood sometimes. Eating the entire victim, bones and all, doesn’t seem to be the norm.
Douma: Bones are organs too, you know! That’s where blood is made, at its freshest. They do take more practice in learning to digest, and I had to find a way around not having to chew them, but the bone marrow is very, very good for you, so I make sure to consume it frequently. It may take more time and it causes some of my followers to panic more while they wait, though, that’s a bit of a downside. Oh, and I guess bones can make good storage for some sneaky poison. Even fingernails and hair follicles, who’d have thought?
Gotou: I don’t think hair would have much nutritional value in the first place. In all my years, I can never recall seeing a victim with their hair eaten.
Douma: Tsk, tsk! Clearly you haven’t done much metabolism research in advance. I was really impressed by how well Shinobu-chan understood how my digestion would work. Eating hair can do amazing things! Isn’t that right, Genya-kun?
Genya: ?????????
Gotou: Genya-kun!?
Genya: What am I doing here?
Gotou: I don’t think you’re supposed to be here. Isn’t there, you know, another side? The other direction?
Genya: What are you doing here? Did you die?
Gotou: I’m here doing research on demon metabolism and how they get stronger by consuming flesh.
Douma: What can you tell us about what up with having your friend feed you hair you found on the floor in Chapters 170-171, Genya-kun?
Genya: I’m not a demon!! Why the hell are you asking me?
Douma: ‘Hell’! Haha, good one!
Gotou: How do you even know about that? You were dead almost a full volume before that. And Genya’s different, he’s not a case study in how demons consuming humans works!
Douma: Are you certain?
Gotou: I hear the term get thrown around a lot that he’s ‘half-demon’, but—
Genya: I’m not a demon!!!
Gotou: --how would that even work? That would imply that one of his parents had to be a demon, and that—
Genya: What did you say about my mother!?!
Gotou: What? Nothing—
Genya: You say that to my face! You just trying saying something about my mother to my face! My mother never actually ate any flesh, you got that? She doesn’t deserve any of this!
Gotou: Genya, calm down, what—
Douma: I see we’re learning nothing about hair at all. Maybe Kokushibou-dono would provide better commentary on that?
Genya: Mom? Mo-o-o-o-m? Are you down here somewhere?
Gotou: And there he goes… wait, did you say Kokushibou? Upper Moon One? Oh no—he—he didn’t want me bothering him, he did not agree to another interview—
Douma: He-e-e-e-e-y, Kokushibou-dono! How did that work with Genya-kun eating your hair? Hair can be nutritious, right?
Kokushibou: You would gain… nothing… from consuming human hair… it’s not… flesh… you wasted your energy digesting it…
Douma: Aww, cutting it off them would had been sad, though.
Kokushibou: Demon hair… like demon weapons… is made… from our unique cells. It’s not dead… like human locks. Because that boy ate my live cells… it affected him…
Gotou: Yes, because he had a very, very unique metabolism, analyzed separately in this post. To be perfectly clear, Genya is completely human with cells that could temporarily transform, and he never consumed human flesh.
Kokushibou: He… vexes me…
Gotou: Um… while I’ve got you here, you’re one of the longest lived demons, clocking in at over three, maybe four centuries. Do you have any estimate of how many humans you’ve consumed?
Kokushibou: ……I see in… Chapter 100… that you are 23 years old?
Gotou: That is correct.
Kokushibou: Do you bother… remembering how many meals… you’ve had in a mere 23 years?
Gotou: I’m very sorry to have bothered you.
Douma: Kokushibou-dono’s ancient compared to the rest of us! But if I tried, I could probably recall. Let’s see. One, two, three, four…
Gotou: Is that? Your finger in your brain? Oh—ohhh—that is disgusting---I really don’t need to know numbers that badly, please stop. Is there maybe just some average you can give me for the Upper Moons instead? Like how many you’d eat in a month?
Douma: I wish I could, but a certain someone was an annoying outlier and didn’t like to eat so many humans. He made me worry all the time about his health.
Gotou: Really? Who might that be?
Douma: Hello-o-o-o-o-? Akaza-dono? Yoohoo! He spends all his time with his wife now and never answers when I call, it makes me so sad. Akaza-dono did eat humans, plenty of strong ones, but any time he wasn’t under orders from Muzan he liked to spend his time training instead of eating. Fanbook #1 says he did that way more than eating!
Gotou: Training? What sort of training?
Douma: Similar things to what your Corp members did, I imagine. Doing squats, throwing punches, things like that.
Gotou: Then demon muscles had similar function to human muscles, and could be strengthened through hard work? That’s surprising.
Douma: I know, right? I’ll let you in on a secret, I don’t think it was the physically repetition that did anything. I think it was his willpower getting honed and shaping his muscles.
Douma: I had to focus when I acquired new skills too, like breaking down poisons. A lot of sad, lowly demons, like that Hand Demon fellow? They focus as hard as they can in their desperation, or focus on some strong emotion or attachment or whatever, and they grow and develop because of it. Sometimes all their weak bodies can manage is an ugly mutation, but that’s proof enough of how much focus they had.
Gotou: That sheds a lot of light on Nezuko, actually.
Douma: Shed “light” on Nezuko-chan, hahaha! Sunlight! You humans are all so witty!
Gotou: Speaking of willpower, I’ve got one more interview I need to get to down here. Of all the demons I have records of, only Nezuko went her whole time as a demon without consuming any human flesh, although she did go through moments of berserk cravings for it. It’s possible that other demons were killed before they could consume anything, but typically they will consume flesh as soon as possible, which is why its common for their family and close relations to be among the first ones killed. Tomioka-san even mentioned in Chapter 1 that these close relations are especially nutritious.
Gotou: A demon about as old as Kokushibou, if not older, is a special case of her own. She was one of the only demons we know of to have escaped Kibutsuji’s curse and acted in dependently of him, including having created a demon of her own after two hundred years of trying. Most notably to our purposes, she trained herself to subsist on small amounts of blood, after having survived on corpses and wild animals for a time, according to the extensive Taisho Secrets at the end of Volume 21.
Tamayo: I explained this in more detail to Tanjirou-san in Chapter 15, but I went on to purchase blood from poor people, and extracted it in ways that wouldn’t be harmful to them. The one demon I created, Yushirou, could subsist on even less. I gained enough self-control that I could treat injured humans without feeling tempted into a berserk state.
Gotou: I was just talking to Douma about willpower making demons capable of accomplishing new physical developments. Was that how you were able to gain this state? I heard you even enjoy a cup of tea now and then.
Tamayo: Yes, I’ve taken a liking to it. I’d offer you some if not for this, you know, being hell. It’s nothing like the hell I went through when first resisting consuming humans, though. My demon body refused to take anything but fresh human flesh at first, but in the hardest moments, I always remembered a kind demon hunter who said he believed in me and my desire to defeat Kibutsuji Muzan. I believe Nezuko may have summoned her strength to resist the call of her demon cells in a similar way; she knew she had her brother there to rely on. Once she mastered something as remarkable as resisting the need for human flesh, it gave her the freedom to prioritize other developments.
Gotou: You spent centuries researching demon cells, especially how demons may break down and metabolize poisons.
Tamayo: I had not studied the metabolism of poisons until working with Shinobu-san. The medicine we concocted for Kibutsuji was only possible thanks to her work, and I couldn’t had worked with many of those wisteria-based substances on my own. I feel I was only there to fill in the gaps of her brilliant understanding.
Gotou: You’re very humble. I would pass along my thanks and compliments to Shinobu-sama too, but I’m pretty sure she’s not down here. On that note, did Genya-kun go back home?
Tamayo: He did after a nice reunion with his mother just now, it was very sweet. Shizu-san and I get along well, after all, we both carry similar guilt.
Gotou: Wait, was his mother a demon? That means Wind-sama’s mother was too? Wait?? What??
Tamayo: The worst hell I went through, or that any demon has gone through, is to realize what you’ve eaten after the hunger-driven madness clears. Being similar to your own cells, they’re easy on a volatile new anatomy to break down and digest. That’s why many demons may have driven themselves to forget everything all over again, or to twist their personalities to justify the horror, saying that because they ate the hearts of their loved ones and because demon flesh can live forever, then they never truly killed them. The truth always remained untwisted for me, and to this day, it torments me more than anything in this underworld can try.
Gotou: …
Tamayo: You should wake up now, Gotou. You’ve been through a lot; the nightmares must be taxing on your health. Please remember to eat well.

my happy ending [two] // kara danvers
summary: the secret Kara has been putting off for months finally comes to light, leaving you both in a precarious situation
warning/s: mentions of a breakup (let's be honest, this isn't a spoiler lol)
author's note: here’s the second part! hope you like it :)
part one | masterlist | wattpad
It had been a few months since Kara and I said 'I love you' and it was around that time when things between us were moving forward. We were still going strong and I had never been in love with someone as much as I was with her. No relationship I'd had in the past was as amazing as it was with Kara – she was magnificent.
I was sure nothing would get in the way of us; we were going strong and despite small, petty arguments we'd had in the past, we'd never truly fell out over something. I couldn't imagine us doing so either, because our relationship was built on honesty and trust. What could possibly break us up?
I was in charge of all social media content for CatCo, so I wasn't one who usually went with reporters to cover stories. In fact, I rarely did unless it was to help a colleague, like now. My friend, Cara, was covering a story at L-Corp – something science-y to do with the labs. I wasn't too into the details, but she didn't want to go alone, so she asked me to accompany her.
So, that's where I found myself now, standing with Cara as she was being shown around the labs of L-Corp by a scientist.
Cara was a professional, asking question after question and digging for the nitty gritty details in which the scientist would try to avoid. It was pretty cool to witness.
"So, that's everything we're working on so far," the scientist finished the tour, stopping by some glass doors.
"What's in there?" I asked, nodding behind the scientist.
The woman glanced behind her before forcing a small smile. "That's something I shouldn't discuss."
I quirked an eyebrow. "Seriously? Now I definitely want to know."
"Look, this isn't a scrutinising article," Cara explained, her voice sounding convincing. "We're not trying to uncover L-Corp's secrets. The last thing we need is another 'evil Luthor' recycled news story."
"I appreciate the sentiment, but I still can't share what's in there," the scientist said, apologetically.
"Off the record?" Cara offered, and I could sense her curiosity, too. "We won't tell anyone. I won't report it."
The scientist seemed reluctant. "It's not a secret, I can tell you both. But it's just, you're the media..."
"Technically, she's the reporter," I pointed out, literally pointing to Cara, who smacked me in the arm.
"C'mon, we'll sign an NDA or whatever," Cara promised.
After some puppy dog eyes and pouting, the scientist (whose name I couldn't remember) gave us some NDAs to sign before finally taking us inside the glass room.
"As you know, we manufacture many different products," she explained, leading us to a desk with some microscopes on. "We're working on recreating Kryptonite."
I furrowed my brows. "That's that stuff that Supergirl and Superman have right?"
"Their weakness," the scientist corrected. "We've managed to recreate the properties of Kryptonite and can use it in case of an attack from Kryptonians."
"But the only Kryptonians we know of are Superman and Supergirl and they would never attack," Cara stated with confusion.
"Not necessarily true," the scientist said. "Remember Astra?"
"The woman who tried to kill us all at the start of the year? Yeah, we remember," I replied, shivering at the memory.
"It's for cases like that," she explained. "It's not a big deal, but we're keeping it on the down low to avoid public scrutiny. As you said earlier."
Cara nodded and began to look through the microscope, studying the Kryptonite on the slides. I looked at the green glowing rock beside the microscope, picking it up and wondering how something so beautiful looking could be so dangerous to an alien.
"Amazing, isn't it?"
I looked up at the scientist. "I guess. This stuff really kills Kryptonians?"
"Too much can, yes," she answered. "Small doses can inflict pain, and manageable doses can strip them of their powers, making them similar to a human. This piece you're holding is a highly-concentrated dose."
"Best keep this far away from National City's only hero then," I joked, feeling a tad uncomfortable that I was holding such a powerful object.
I placed the Kryptonite back on the desk and tapped Cara. She got the hint and concluded the tour.
Cara and I headed back to CatCo after and she thanked me for accompanying her to the tour. It wasn't a big deal, so I smiled and left her be to write it up, promising to give it a read before she submitted it.
I decided to head to Kara's afterwards, seeing as she was working from home today. I brought some food – her favourite, Potstickers – to surprise her, and knocked on with a smile on my face. Just the thought of seeing her got me all giddy, like a little kid.
"It's open!" Kara called out from the other side.
I rolled my eyes playfully and walked into her flat, setting the food on the kitchen counter. "What did I say about leaving your door unlocked, Kara? It could have been anyone!"
Kara grinned from her position at the dining table, standing up to approach me. "But I knew it was you and– ah!"
I furrowed my eyebrows when I saw Kara stumble over her feet when walking towards me.
"Kara, what is it?" I asked, moving forward to help, but when I touched her, she pushed me away and held the table for support. "Kara!"
I looked closely and realised her veins were glowing bright green. That could only happen if...
"Wait a minute," I said, staying stood still as she gulped hard, still hunched over with pain. "You're in pain... and that can only happen if you've been in contact with–"
"Kryptonite!" she cut me off breathlessly, before staring at me with startled eyes.
I stepped back, feeling my heart drop to my stomach. "You're a Kryptonian."
"Why do you have Kryptonite?!" she questioned, still clutching the table and cowering away from me.
I shook my head, still in awe. "I was at L-Corp and we saw some Kryptonite... but only Kryptonians are affected, and there's only two known Kryptonians on Earth... Superman and..."
She avoided my eyes and that's when my suspicion was confirmed. I felt my mouth go dry as I looked at Kara carefully. Her glasses, that was it. That was the only thing separating her from her other identity, her other life. How could I have missed that?
"I've gotta go," I got out finally, my throat closing up.
"Y/N, please wait," she said desperately, stepping forward, but she stopped herself when overcome with pain. Her skin was glowing green now and I realised that there was still Kryptonite residue on me from that highly-concentrated piece I held earlier.
I turned around and left, feeling my heart beat fast in my chest. Kara was Supergirl. I didn't know what to feel because that very fact was still trying to sink in.
I had no choice but to go back to CatCo after, needing to get the rest of my work done for today. But I couldn't concentrate because of what I'd just discovered. Kara was Supergirl. She was an alien. She had a whole other life I didn't know about.
My phone kept getting notifications from Kara – she wanted to explain herself, but she couldn't see me until she was sure the Kryptonite residue had dispersed. I didn't care about that anyway, I didn't want to see her right now. I wasn't sure what I would say if I did – she'd hidden this from me!
I thought we had something special and unique. I thought I'd finally found someone, something, indestructible. I thought I knew Kara inside and out, I wanted to believe I did. But I was wrong. She was pretending this whole time.
I went home after work, leaving a little early because I wasn't actually getting anything done. I was confused, lost, unsure what to do with this information. Kara was Supergirl. When she disappeared randomly, that's probably why. When she would sneak off with James and Winn... they probably knew, too. It seemed that everyone important to her knew. But I didn't. Maybe I wasn't as important to her as I thought.
When I reached my flat, I saw Kara leaning against the doorframe. She perked up when she saw me, clearing her throat.
"Y/N," she muttered, her voice breaking.
I wanted to ignore her, but I couldn't. I simply stared at her, noticing her red, teary eyes and puffy face that were hidden behind her glasses, the same ones that had hidden her identity. It was literally right in front of me and I hadn't noticed. She hadn't shared it with me. I was so sure we would last. A relationship built upon honesty and trust. Huh. What a joke.
"I don't want to speak to you right now," I said as calmly as I could muster, before fumbling with my keys.
"Y/N, please, I know you're angry, but I need to explain to you," she said desperately. "I don't want to hurt you."
"It's too late for that," I mumbled, swallowing down the lump in my throat before managing to slot the key in the hole and push open my door.
"I'm sorry," she said, following me inside. I rolled my eyes as she watched me with a guilty expression. "I didn't want you to find out like this."
"It seems that you didn't want me to find out at all!" I snapped at her, slamming the front door and spinning around to face her. "I found out by accident, Kara. You lied to me. You didn't trust me."
"I do," she tried, but I shook my head, disguising my hurt with irritation.
"No, you don't, otherwise you would have told me," I stated. "I feel stupid for not figuring it out sooner."
"I'm sorry–"
"I don't want to hear it!" I cut her off. "At first, maybe you didn't trust me enough to tell me, that's fine. Then we admitted we liked each other and okay, fair point, you didn't know if we would last so you didn't want to tell me. It's fine, understandable even, that you didn't tell me. But then we told each other we loved each other. And that could have been your chance. But no. You kept pretending that I actually meant something."
"I wasn't pretending!"
"If you weren't, then I would mean something to you, Kara. I would be important enough in your life to have known the truth!" I shouted, my vision blurry with tears. "You let me fall in love with you! Believing we could go somewhere when this whole time, you were living a whole other life! And apparently everybody else knows but me! Right? I presume that's why you're always hanging out with Winn and James?"
She stayed quiet, watching me with tears streaming down her face, but I couldn't care less. She was hurting me.
"Get out," I said, breathing out.
"Y/N–"
"I said get out," I repeated, glaring at her.
She nodded slowly, looking down to her shoes. "I'm so sorry, Y/N..." She walked past me, and I didn't turn around until I heard the door close.
I released a shaky breath, closing my eyes as tears fell. So much for a happy ending.
–
A lot can happen in a month, which is funny because it goes by quite quickly.
That's how long it had been as I tried to come to terms with how I felt about Kara hiding a big part of her life from me. I couldn't just forgive her and pretend it didn't hurt. The more I thought about it – which was a lot, as much as I tried not to – the more I felt like an idiot.
I was in love with somebody who I truly believed was my perfect someone. I believed she was everything to me, but she was pretending the whole time. I was convinced God was out there, letting me know not to get too attached, too safe with someone, because I would just be setup for disappointment.
Obviously, seeing as Kara and I worked in the same office, it made for, well, pretty much every day an awkward encounter. I tried my best to avoid her presence, which I thought wouldn't be too difficult, but gosh it was. It was like she was everywhere I went – the photocopier, the coffee machine, the toilets. It was infuriating, especially because I began to miss her a lot.
I had to put up with avoiding her eyes and stares from across the room for a long time. I knew she wanted to speak with me, because at first she tried to, but then she gave up and I think everybody knew. Nobody in the office brought it up, but it was obvious they knew, judging from the tension in the air when we were around each other.
And if all of that wasn't enough, it didn't help that I was reminded of Supergirl pretty much every day. She was all over the news and it was literally in my job description to tweet about her when I could. Seeing her – Kara – in all of those photos, reading about how she was literally saving people's lives... it hurt. She didn't trust me enough to tell me about all of it. Was it something I'd said? An impression I gave that made her deem me untrustworthy?
I didn't know anymore. I just knew that by the end of the month, my heart ached more and more, craving for the arsehole that was Kara Danvers. I refused to admit it at first, but when I kept finding myself searching for the blonde around the office, I knew I'd finally accepted what had happened. I wanted her back. I missed her.
It took a while to find the guts to go forward with this, but when I did, I tried to find Kara at work. She wasn't at her desk and nobody had seen her around. I did a quick search around, calling her name, but nothing. Only, when I was on my way into the hallway, I found her standing by the coffee machine. She wasn't alone.
The new-ish guy, Mike or whatever, was stood with her, pretty close to her side, his hand resting on hers on the table.
I knew I had no right – I'd literally blown her off for a whole month – but my heart began to ache at the sight. Whatever they were talking about must have been important. She was staring at him like he had hung all the stars in the sky. Unless that's just what I saw, I wasn't sure. I just knew that I hated it.
The two of them turned around when they heard me call Kara's name and I froze, meeting Kara's eyes for the first time in a long time.
"Y/N?" she breathed out, surprise in her voice and expression.
I licked my lips, backing up. "Sorry, I– sorry. I left it too late. I'll go," I mumbled, my voice breaking.
"No, Y/N, wait!" she tried, but I'd already turned on my heel and speed-walked away.
I felt my eyes tear up like an idiot as I walked away. Of course she'd moved on. Why wouldn't she? I'd wasted her time.
"Y/N, please wait," her voice broke me from my self-pity, and she stopped in front of me, eyes searching mine. "Let me explain."
"I didn't mean to interrupt," I said, clearing my throat. "You don't need to explain anything, Kara. I– I made you wait too long without saying anything. You don't owe me anything." I sucked up a shaky breath and avoided her eyes. "I've gotta go, sorry."
I didn't give her chance to respond, not wanting to hear her comfort me out of pity or obligation, and instead pushed her out of the way before leaving abruptly.
I just felt like an idiot.
–
I sat at my kitchen counter and opened the pizza box, tucking in there and then instead of getting a plate. I was tired, upset and wished today was over with.
After seeing Kara with Mike earlier on, I felt embarrassed and couldn't wait for my day to be over with so I could sulk over a box of pizza. I guess I should have seen it coming, since I practically pushed her away and gave her no benefit of the doubt. I deserved it, but that didn't mean it didn't hurt any less.
As I was halfheartedly eating my pizza slice, I heard a knock on the door and groaned inwardly. I really couldn't be arsed with the company.
"Go away," I called out, hoping they'd take the hint.
"Y/N? It's me."
I groaned loudly this time, recognising the voice as Kara's. I paused, glancing at the door, debating whether to tell her to go away. But I realised I'd have to face her eventually, and she was way too stubborn to take my word and leave.
With a heavy sigh, I dropped my pizza slice into the box and wiped my hands on my jeans before going to answer the door. Kara was standing there with a small smile on her lips as I avoided her eyes, cheeks growing warm.
"Hey," she said softly.
I nodded awkwardly. "I– er– hi..." I swallowed hard, saying, "Look, if you're here about earlier today, I'm really sorry, Kara."
"No, you don't need to apologise," she was quick to reply. "It wasn't what you thought, I–"
"You don't need to explain," I cut her off, finally lifting my eyes to meet hers. I didn't want her to explain it. "It's your business. I shouldn't have assumed anything."
Her eyes softened as she clearly had more to say. "Can I come in? Please?"
I would have rather ended the conversation there, but the part of me that missed her deeply was telling me to let her in. Next thing I knew, I was stepping to the side and letting her come in, hoping she couldn't hear the racing heartbeat in my chest.
"Mike isn't just the new guy," she said when I closed the door. "His name is Mon-El. He's an alien."
"Kara–"
"He's an alien and I've been helping him to settle into living on Earth," she cut me off, continuing hurriedly. She held my gaze, not giving me chance to interrupt. "Supergirl has been helping him. That's all it is. That's all it'll ever be."
I pressed my lips together, nodding slightly to show her I understood. Her shoulders relaxed and I felt a bit more at ease now myself. She wasn't moving on. Or at least, not with him.
"I didn't know that because I pushed you away," I admitted, frowning. "I didn't give you a chance... I'm sorry."
"You don't need to apologise," she insisted, shaking her head.
I smiled sadly. "I get it could be too late, but–"
"It's not too late," she said quickly, eyes glistening with hope. "I... I was waiting."
I felt butterflies in my stomach as I felt my embarrassment return. "I needed time, that was it." I sighed to myself as I began to pace uncomfortably. "It was silly, really, how I didn't realise the truth. Everybody else knew and I... I should have known."
"Don't say that," she said, and I felt her hand grab my arm reluctantly. I stopped and faced her, seeing her shaking her head. "I didn't mean for you to feel like that. It wasn't your fault, Y/N, it was mine. I should have told you. I wanted to tell you."
I couldn't help but feel betrayed again. "But you didn't."
She let go of my arm and frowned. "It just happened that Winn was the first person I told. And James already knew because of Superman. And then I wanted to tell you next, but being Supergirl was hard at first. It was demanding. And being Kara with somebody who didn't expect anything more was nice. It was selfish, but I had you. And I wanted to tell you after, but I was scared. And once again, I was selfish because I knew I was falling in love with you and I didn't want to scare you away because of this lie."
I swallowed the lump in my throat as she searched my eyes for something.
"It got out of hand and I was in way too deep," she admitted regretfully. "You won't believe me, but I did want to tell you, Y/N. But now you know. And I know you hate me, but I wish you didn't because I am truly sorry I ever hurt you. I never wanted that."
"I don't hate you," I told her, eyes glassy with tears. "I don't think I could hate you even if I tried, Kara."
"I love you," she whispered, a tear slipping from her eye.
I couldn't stop myself as I pulled her in for a hug, squeezing her tight. I had missed her so much and to have her back in my arms was a blessing, even if it hurt me at the same time.
"I don't completely trust you right now," I muttered truthfully, before pulling away and holding her close.
"I understand," she said, nodding and sniffling.
"But I love you, too," I added, knowing that deep down I couldn't stop. "I want to be with you, Kara. You mean too much to me."
She seemed confused as she furrowed her eyebrows. "What does this mean?"
I swallowed the lump in my throat. "I'd like to start again, but go slow. I still care about you and seeing you with Mike– Mon-El– whatever, made me realise that I can't see you being with somebody else."
"I'll earn back your trust," she promised, tucking a strand of her behind my ear. "I never meant to hurt you."
"I know you didn't," I said, grabbing her hand and kissing it gently. "And I know you will."
She smiled through her tears and I felt my heart beating quickly again, glad I had her back. I moved forward for another hug, relaxing into her arms as she squeezed me comfortingly.
We'd get through this. She was still my happy ending, Supergirl or not.

Love these notes @yamineftis lol I find Bo Katan very interesting as a character, in that I'm always wondering whether the reason I like her so much is either A) because I can enjoy seeing a flawed character so desperately trying to assert their idea of what their destiny should be/look like while the narrative continues to suggest something else ... or whether B) the writers just aren't as committed to seeing a flawed character's arc through and are simply writing them as an obstacle for another character they prefer.
(Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just a thought I constantly have whenever I engage with any piece of media with this particular set up).
I do very much subscribe to the idea that the Mandalorians lost faith in her. Whether that was due solely in part to her inability to measure up to their standards, follow up on some promises she made, etc or simply because the Mandalore Bo Katan is fighting for ... just no longer exists.
Bo Katan, to me, is sort of a tragic figure. She seems to consistently hold onto a version of Mandalore that she rememebers and is desperately trying to get everyone else to remember, too. Just like her sister, everything Bo does, she believes is just in doing so. Or at the very least, that everything she's been through has to mean something. Because otherwise, what was the point of it all?
(more meta/thoughts under the cut)
Now while I don't agree with how certain aspects of TCW/Rebels (the minor bits that I've seen)/The Mandalorian choose to handle Bo Katan or Satine ... I can see what the writers were going for; depicting two extremely different reactions to tradegy, where one sibling chooses the path of complete nonviolence and the other of absolute violence.
For the sake of time, I'm not going to get into the weeds with Satine (as there are others have done remarkably better jobs with discussing her policies/influence/impact on Mandalore than I can do atm), but I do want to mention how Bo Katan's reaction to their shared trauma sort of lead her down the path she's on.
Unlike Satine, Bo Katan believed the better way to go about "saving Mandalore" was by sticking to and doubling down on warrior Mandalorian traditions and beliefs. However, this did lead to a time when she herself becoming a dedicated member of Death Watch. A period of time which she seems to be choosing to straight up ignore (I know Favroni aren't really addressing her time in Death Watch directly as that's more of a Legends ref, but my generous take on this is that Bo Katan is ashamed of her history with Death Watch. Again, idk if that's what Favroni is actually going for so we'll see). Up until Maul killed Satine and then took the Mandalorian throne for himself, Bo Katan was a pretty loyal member.
There might have even been a time where Bo Katan didn't necessarily agree that the Darksaber should be used as a symbol of "the right to rule," but possibly saw it as a tool that could be used to help Death Watch take back Mandalore to the one she remembered.
(I'm leaning more towards this interpretation just based on how she refers to the Darksaber in TCW/Rebels/The Mandalorian, as she just doesn't seem to hold any sort of reverance for the Darksaber other than what it could do to help solidify herself as a leader).
However, once Maul claims the Darksaber, it's made clear to Bo Katan that this way of thinking is flawed as fuck. Because, clearly, using the Darksaber to choose the rightful ruler of Mandalore opens a pathway for non-Mandalorians to take over. And to Bo Katan and many other Mandalorians, this is absolutely unacceptable.
I think it's also interesting that Bo Katan is the only remaining Kryze we see consistently depicted across multiple shows. Out of everyone--her parents/her sister, Pre Vizsla/Death Watch, every Mandalorian during the civil wars and the brutal near massascre done on part by the Empire--Bo Katan survives. She's a living memory of everything Mandalore has been through. And she's one of the few still left to be able to tell of the great injustices done to the Mandalorian people, but also a reminder of the horrors that the Mandalorians inflicted on others and themselves.
However, her own people have lost faith in her. As much as Bo Katan wants to "make things right," it seems that she just can't do it. Or at the very least, she keeps going about it in the same way she's always done, never once considering that there might be another option.
Bo Katan is not an idiot. She understands why the Darksaber has value, even if she herself might not hold it in the same regard as others due. She understand the importance of symbols and of using said symbols to gain authority and respect. But she doesn't seem to know how to keep it.
My hope is that Favroni will finally give Bo Katan the opportunity to realize that there is another way. Her irritation/resignation towards the Darksaber as an authority status symbol, as well as her own personal frustration with her continued failure to unite her people is already fascinating to watch.
I would absolutely love to have Bo Katan be able to have some part in reuniting Mandalore, even if that meant she had to step back and accept someone else as the new leader of their people. It doesn't even have to be Din (although that would be a lot of fun to see, espeically considering he's from the very "cult" she has the most personal beef with). I would honestly enjoy seeing her finally come to terms with the fact that her part in Mandalore's destiny might not being the one who is leading, but maybe as someone who can aid the new Manda'lor.
The thing I fear for most is that Bo Katan just dies. It would be so absolutely frustrating and unsatisfying for her character to have gone through so much, only for her entire character arc to just end before it could be completed. I'm have no clue what Favroni has in store for her. I can only hope that they'll do her right.
Yeah I don't understand why anyone other than the children of the watch would give a shit about the darksaber. It holds no meaning to any of them.

White Lies (Pt. 01 of 21)
Pairing: Keanu Reeves X Reader
Word count: 2.1 K
Summary: Keanu found the girl almost dead, in the wrecks of what was once her car. While she was in surgery, stuck in a coma, he gathered the best doctors of New York to attend to her. They told him she is likely to have some kind of brain damage, what may lead to memory loss. And this possibility added up wit the fact that she's pregnant, made the council come up with an odd idea. They asked Keanu to pretend to be her husband, since the stress of finding out everything that happened could put the baby in danger. He reluctantly agreed, but only if she does has some kind of memory loss. He still goes she'll wake up soon, with her memories intact.
But when you finally wake up, there's nothing inside. You're quick to find your head is empty, void, like a blank canvas. The only thing that brings you some relief, that makes you feel less lonely is the mention of a husband. And you can't wait to meet him, because you know you can't deal with this by yourself.

Deceit
Life has a weird way of turning things around. Of putting people in the most unlikely scenarios, and leaving them on their own to try and figure out what to do next.
Keanu's mind has been restless since the moment he saw the bleeding, unconscious girl inside that wreck of a car, four days ago.
It was on the side of the empty road, and he was just about to drive pass it when something made him stop. Whoever caused it was gone, and there were no words to describe the sting on his chest when he saw her. The next moments happened in such a blur that he still has a hard time trying to put everything together. He remembers carefully lifting the girl's body off the wheel. He remembers checking her heartbeats, so faint and weak. And he surely remembers calling an ambulance and staying there, hoping, praying she wouldn't be just a corpse when they got there.
He couldn't quite see the extension of the damage since he was too scared to move her around. The girl wouldn't wake up, it didn't matter how many times he called, and as time passed, minutes passing by impossibly slow, he felt his heart sinking. Over and over again, he placed two fingers on her neck, just to make sure she was still alive. Her breathing was shallow and fast, and Keanu couldn't even notice in his agitation. There was way too much blood coming from a wound on her forehead, and more staining her light blue blouse. He couldn't believe he'd watch her die, right there before his eyes.
A wave of relief washed over him when the ambulance came, and he watched, helplessly, as they put her on the stretcher, pushing it to the back of the ambulance. A man had spoken to him, he's not sure what, but his legs carried him to the ambulance with her, and there, seated between two paramedics, he looked at the girl, once again praying she'd survive the ride.
She did. She was strong, the doctors said, and had successfully recovered from the two surgeries she had to go through. There was a lot of internal bleeding, they said, and now, the girl was in a coma. And nobody could tell how long it'd take for her to wake up.
But that was four days ago. Today, still at the hospital, Keanu tries to focus on whatever the council of doctors are saying. He had paid for everything, and he wouldn't have anything less than the best health care for the girl. (Y/N), he had found out. A beautiful name, that he thought suited the girl perfectly. Seated on the head of the table, Doctor Wright speaks of her condition, but Keanu's mind has drifted away a while ago.
“Mr. Reeves?” The woman, Alice Harris, gets his attention. She's the psychologist involved. The only reason why she's here is that there was damage on (Y/N)'s brain. There's a sixty percent chance that her memories were affected. They don't know how much yet, but they'll be ready to deal with whatever happens when she finally opens her eyes again. If she ever does. But Keanu won't give this possibility any thoughts. “Are you willing to do this?”
“Do what?” He didn't want to come out as not being interested in this. He was. But he can't pretend he knows what he would be agreeing with.
“Mr. Reeves, I know you're also affected by this. We all can see it. But we need you to have your mind clear.” The surgeon speaks, his hands cupped together, lying above (Y/N)'s papers. “If not, we'll place her under our care until we can contact her mother-in-law.”
“Mother-in-law?” How much of the conversation did Keanu lose?
“Let me.” Dr. Wright says. “Mr. Reeves, we have made some research on our patient's life. (Y/N) had just moved here, and unfortunately, she lost her husband only two weeks ago in a work-related accident.” This time, Keanu pays attention, his eyes focused on the man. “The only other person she has here is a friend named Laura Thompson, and her mother-in-law lives in Argentina, Lucia Davis. A few friends from her hometown, but nobody else. Nobody here who can help her through... Her condition.”
“There's still a chance she'll remember, right? Forty percent.” Keanu could only imagine what it'd be like. He'd never wished that on anyone, waking up one day with nothing inside. No record of who you were before. And he didn't want this for her. Not after what she's been through. “If she's alright then–”
“It wasn't about this condition I was talking about.” He cuts off, sighing and exchanging a glance with the neurologist. “Mr. Reeves, (Y/N) is three weeks pregnant.”
There's a sudden buzz on Keanu's ears, as his brain tries to process what he just heard. He's quick to make the math though. Three weeks pregnant, lost her husband two weeks ago... She was just starting to plan everything, probably just about to break the news to him or the family, and then, he died. That was probably the reason for her accident. Driving fast, tears clouding her sight, wondering what she'd do now, all alone, with a kid on the way. “Everything you need me to do, I will. I'll pay for anything she needs, it doesn't matter how much.” The words flow out, almost a living thing.
“Dr. Harris raises a hand to stop Dr. Wright, who was just about to say something. “Mr. Reeves, as we already said, we fear that our patient will have some kind of memory loss if she wakes up. And people on her position are always scared, and the feeling of being lost may drive them into self-destructive behaviors.” The woman speaks slow, and Keanu sighs. He's suddenly angry, wanting people to just spit everything out so he can understand what's going on and decide what to do with it. Bouncing his leg under the table, he nods, urging her to continue. “In that scenario, knowing about a pregnancy can make things take a bad turn, and even put the unborn child in danger.”
“What will you have me do?” He bursts out, impatiently. “If you need another specialist, or transfer her to some other hospital, do it.”
“What we need is far more complicated than that.” She continues. “A little unusual, but I believe it will work.” She takes a deep breath, fixing her glasses. “Mr. Reeves, we need you to introduce yourself as being (Y/N)'s husband.”
“What?” He inquires, unable to believe his ears.
“If she wakes up–”
“When.” Keanu is quick to correct her, his voice letting it show how anxious he is.
“When, forgive me.” Dr. Harris mutters. “It will be better if she has someone close. And a husband, since she's with child, will certainly give her peace of mind until... Until she remembers. If she remembers and if she does have a memory loss in the first place.”
Keanu looks down at his hands, resting on the wooden table before him. He should say no. This is way too much, too much of a crazy idea to follow up. But these are the best doctors money could pay for, and he did say he'd do anything that could help her. But he'd never thought this would be what she needed. There was no other option to him, that much was obvious, even if he didn't want to admit it right way. “Alright then.” He agrees, nodding.
“Good. We'll contact her friend and mother-in-law to let them know about this.” Dr. Wright says, getting up. “I'll need you to attend some meetings, Mr. Reeves, there will be some things we'll need to discuss.”
“Sure.” As if he hasn't been coming to the hospital every day to visit the girl.
The days start passing a little faster now, as Keanu meets up with the psychologist to make things ready in case she wakes up. They said there's no need to rush, that it may take several weeks, months even... But Keanu won't share their skepticism. He believes she's coming back soon, so he'll have everything in place for the biggest lie he'd ever tell. He has the excuses in place, the backstory, everything. He even has the fake ring already, and he never felt so bad as he did when buying it. But still, he carries it in his pocket every time he goes visit her, hoping she'll wake up.
Two weeks have passed, and today, as usual, Keanu looks through the open blinders, his eyes set on her sleeping figure. (Y/N) looks so peaceful in his eyes, as if she's simply sleeping. He can't help but admire her beauty, even in a simple hospital gown, with her hair a little messy, she looks pretty. His eyes drift a little, all the way to her stomach. It's still flat, but he knows there's life in there, growing. A life that will need their mother. “C'mon, (Y/N). Wake up.” Keanu mutters, his voice barely a whisper.
After a few more minutes, he leaves, walking slowly through the hospital, all the way to his car in the underground parking lot. On the drives seat, he looks at the wheel, the door still open, and he thinks. About everything at the same time. The wrecked car, the blood, the girl, the pregnancy, the lie... It all comes flooding his mind as he runs a hand through his dark hair. He's so drowned in his head that he almost doesn't hear the phone ring. But when he does, Keanu easily finds it in his pocket, not even looking at the screen before picking up. “Hello.” He mutters, ready to dismiss whoever it is. He needs to go home, to sleep, to put his mind in place.
“Mr. Reeves. She's awake.”
You still can't put things together. The woman has been talking you through it since yesterday morning when you crawled back into consciousness. She told you everything. How you ended up here, to begin with, but it doesn't matter how hard you try, you can't remember it. In fact, you can't remember anything. When you began to freak out yesterday, a nurse came and gave you something that now forced you to calm down. So you just lie there, staring at Dr. Harris as she tries to help you. But she's failing because your mind is completely empty. The tears keep rolling down, one after the other, and it doesn't matter how much you dry them, more come soon after.
How is it even possible? How can someone lose everything they were? Everything they had? Shaking your head no, you close your eyes shut, not wanting to listen anymore. Her questions remain unanswered because you just don't know the answer them. The only reason you know your name and age is because she told you. But all the rest... It's a mystery. It's gone.
“I can't.” You mutter, running a hand through your forehead. “I can't remember. You're not helping.” Crying again, you bite back a sob. “Please, just... Don't I have anyone? Parents? Friends? Anyone... I...” You can't be alone in the world. There has to be someone, a familiar face who will bring something back.
“You're parents passed away when you were young, sweetie.” She says, and another sob erupts from your mouth. “But you have a husband.”
You're not sure how you feel about it, with too many conflicted sentiments flooding your heart. But you do feel... Relieved? You're not alone. There's someone who could help you through, who knows you. “I-is he here?” You stutter. “Can I see him?”
“Sure.” She stands up from the armchair she positioned next to your bed. “I'll call him.”
Nodding, your eyes are on her back as she leaves. Using the bed's remote control, you move it up until you're in a seating position. The minutes go by and you're still alone. The blinders are closed, so you can only see shadows passing by. Maybe he got tired of waiting. Maybe he–.
“(Y/N).” The strong, deep voice calling your name gets your attention, and your eyes find the man standing some feet away from the bed. He's... Gorgeous. Tall, with long dark hair, which falls on his face, hiding his eyes a little. His beard gives him an atmosphere of mystery but makes him even more handsome.
Is that him? Are you really married to this man? “Are you...” The words fail you, and your voice fades.
“I'm Keanu Reeves. Your husband.”

Chapter 2: Iyaan Morin
a few months ago
"It's important to keep in mind that one shouldn't exceed the required amount of poison used to imbue the weapon. Otherwise, it'll harm the sorcerer who wields the said weapon and in some instances, those who are present within the surroundings, as well. The next topic we'll discuss are the gardens of poisonous plants that are present in the Academy, as well as the weapons compatible with the plants." The lecturer's discussion was cut short when someone called for her.
"Iyaan, someone's looking for you."
"Who could it be?"
"Mr. Jung doesn't recognize him, though. He said to go to the greenhouse near the library and you'll see."
"Alright, Miss Yue."
Iyaan left the Sorcery Lecture Hall temporarily and went to the greenhouse. A few steps away from his destination, he sensed the looming dark, menacing, suffocating aura - and he already knew who he was about to meet.
The person he dreaded to see the most, his own father: Venancio Morin.
"Hey there, old geezer. It's surprising that you're still alive, after all these years. Aren't you already past your prime?"
"Well, well. If it isn't my dear, lovely son."
Iyaan scoffed at his father's pretentious affection towards him. "Cut the chase short, old man. What did you come here for?"
"Why so, Iyaan? Am I not allowed to visit my son and be concerned for his well-being?"
"Don't act so endearing like that, it makes me want to puke." Iyaan shivers at the manner his father talked to him.
Venancio pats his son's shoulder. "Ah, my son is going through it. Being all shy when his father gets concerned for him—"
"Stop it! I know very well where this will lead to. You'll act so kind at the beginning, and once you convince..." Iyaan lightly shakes his head in anger. "No, once you lure me in that trap of yours, you'll show your real colors, won't you? It's no wonder why Mother left you back then. No one could last long with someone who has such a shitty attitude."
Smack.
Venancio's slap echoed throughout the green house, and left a faint red mark on Iyaan's cheek. "Don't you ever talk to your father like that, damn brat." He said, fuming with anger.
Without any words of goodbye, Morin turned his back and walked away from his son.
"See? You just proved my point." Iyaan stares with gloom into the distance.
Even just the slim chance of his father actually treating him better remained in Iyaan's mind.
But... it seems like it would remain a dream forever, wouldn't it? He thought to himself.
Silence filled the place for a short while before he heard footsteps approaching his direction.
"What's wrong, Iyaan?" A fellow sorcerer asked him.
"Oh, nothing. I might've dozed off for a bit. Is the lesson still ongoing?"
"Yes, and it's about to get to the most crucial part, so we need to go back there."
"Okay then."
—
"That's all for today. And take note, regular sorcery missions will start tomorrow. No slacking off, alright?"
"Yes, Miss Flores."
The bell rang, indicating that it was time for lunch and students went to their preferred eating spots. The only ones left in the classroom are Misako, Sai, Rin, and the new student— Iyaan.
"So, did your father send you here to spy on me, and eventually eliminate me when I become, in any way, an annoying idiot or a hindrance?"
"Please, don't lump me in with the likes of him. He's the worst person I've ever known." Iyaan looked away. "If there's even a word for someone who's more evil, more vile, or worse, that's how I'd describe him."
Tension was felt in the air, as Misako confronted Iyaan. Memories of her traumatic past flooded her mind, when she heard Iyaan's surname.
Rin looked at the two. "Umm... I can sense some tension brewing around here."
"Oh please, Rin. No need to mention something so obvious!"
Silence prevailed for a short while before Misako broke the awkwardness among the four of them.
"I guess I'll have to see for myself if like father, like son doesn't apply to you."
"Well that was fast, Misako! You're already lenient on Iyaan?" Rin exclaimed.
"But this doesn't mean I'm gonna be all friendly towards you. Am I clear, Iyaan?"
"Roger that, Misako."
"The question is, for how long will Misako be able to act cold towards Iyaan? Aren't I right, Sai?"
"This might be the only time I fully agree with you, Rin."
"Why Sai!"
Misako let out a giggle upon Rin's attempt to break the ice. But that didn't erase the fact that she'll remain wary of Iyaan due to his relation with Venancio Morin. She didn't want to relive the pain and grief she went through back then.
"Aww, Misako. Come here lemme give you a hug!"
"Get away, Rin!" Misako tried to use her sorcery to block Rin's attempt of hugging her, while Sai initiated a conversation with Iyaan.
"So, welcome to the friend group, I guess?"
"It's my pleasure to be part of one." Iyaan smiles reluctantly. "But wouldn't it be too presumptuous of me to consider myself one of your... friends?"
"No worries there. Misako may seem like she's not friendly, but she's actually a good person. The best friend I could ever ask for."
"I'm glad then."
"Alright, all's well now!" Sai looked around and furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "Misako, where did Rin go?"
"I made him teleport to the Sorcerer's Office."
Sai scoffed at Misako's action. "Pffft. He's gonna get bombarded with errands, isn't he? If he encounters Mr. Zamora, that is."
Within just a few moments of absence, Rin appeared out of nowhere, in a blink of an eye.
"Guys!"
Misako glared in annoyance at Rin. "What is it?"
Rin took a deep breath before answering. "Miss Flores says we need to go to Kalayaan Village."
"This only means one thing," Misako looked at Sai and Rin as they started to prepare their bags before standing up, "it's for a new mission. We can't waste any more time then."
"And it's our time to show what this sorcery of ours can do, Iyaan!" said Rin, in a cheerful manner.
Iyaan chuckles, "Nuh-uh, don't underestimate what this sorcery of mine can do."
"Okay, okay. Off to the village we go!"
Prologue
Halls were engulfed in flames and the ceiling started to fall, little by little. Debris were scattered everywhere.
I attempted to stand up, but my wounds and the blazing heat of the fire in my surroundings made me wince in pain.
How did it come to this? What did I do to deserve all of these? All I wanted was to bring justice to my father's death. Why is the world against me?
The mysterious figure with a sinister aura looked down on me. "So you're the child of that man. Hindrance upon hindrance… I guess you have to meet your end as well."
I fell to the floor, lying down with a limp. My vision grew blurred and I felt my consciousness slowly slipping away.
"Hey, Misako. Misako!"
I closed my eyes, fearing for my life, and everything turned pitch black.

Chapter 42
THE ROAD SO FAR
This chapter was a mess. But it's my mess.
FOUR weeks of Silence
Gary "Roach" Sanderson
Veteran's Village
A peaceful Sunday meant that Roach, Alex and Soap were chilling at the house Samantha and Maxine were in. It had been 4 weeks since that Cuban incident and Francine had gone to therapy for her near death traumatic experience. If it wasn't for Soap, she would've been left out there for good.
France thought that it would be healthy to stay in a more domestic setup rather than the base so she took her time off duty to recover in the veteran's village. And ever since that day in Cuba, Soap and France's relationship was more expressive than ever.
"If we're having a barbecue tonight, we better head off to the meat shop." Alex peeked by the door, giving a heads up to the rest of the people sitting on the couch. Soap turned his head to Alex and tossed his keys as Roach stood up and came with Alex.
"Any other requests?" He looked at the group then to Maxine, who shook her head and laughed.
"Just be back safe." She replied.
"Got it." Gary nodded and waved goodbye at them. Soap wanted to come along but France had been falling asleep on his lap for quite a while. And Maxine and Samantha noted that she hadn't had decent for days.
"Oh, Roach! Grab me a cigar maybe." He whispered, trying not to wake France up.
"Roger that." He nodded and made his way to Soap's jeep, where Alex was already waiting on him. He sat himself on shotgun and let Alex lead the way to their destination.
He turned on the radio as it played a song about driving. Roach was quick to shazam it and found out it was Automobile by KALEO.
"Now this is going to be on my playlist." Alex said as his head nodded to the music, taking him where the winds take him, far away.
"Agreed. Oh, Soap actually asked for cigarettes so we might have to stop by a convenience store on the way back." Roach informed as the song ended.
"Okay. That's cool. Maybe add a few sodas for the girls. They probably haven't had those i ages." He said as he turned the radio off and switched it to AUX.
"Here. Grab my phone and play that song again." Alex instructed as he drove through the streets, and Roach followed him. Playing the song again.
"Ah yes. This song is good." Alex sighed.
"Yeah. It's fire." Roach commented, making Alex raise an eyebrow.
"You know, fire… lit… slaps… Modern terminologies." Roach explained shyly as Alex chuckled.
"I'll never understand the young ones of today." Alex chuckled as he stopped by the parking lot, pulling his phone and leaving the car.
Dinner was the best part of the Sunday evening as the three couples enjoyed a hearty meal together, sharing experiences and funny stories like an extended family. Roach talked about his raccoon story once again as one topic led to another until such time that the inevitable topic was discussed.
"Speaking of fires, do you have any leads on Nero?" Samantha asked innocently as the men fell quiet, looking at each other. Wondering who would open up the topic.
"Well, uh… After his assault in New York…" Soap trailed off, his eyes went to Alex, signaling him to continue.
"Alex, it's your girl's question! Go answer it!" Soap complained as France laughed, wrapping her arms around Soap.
"He's gone silent." Alex muttered. Samantha was kinda sad she asked about it so she tried to make up by brightening up the mood.
The night continued on as the group played charades, girls vs boys. For an hour or so the soldiers forgot about their worries and acted like they're normal people living their normal lives outside work. It wouldn't hurt to pretend like that, especially when the baggage of guilt was hard to handle.
"So, Gary. I've been meaning to ask you something…" Maxine said as she assisted him in the kitchen.
"Yeah, what is it?"
"How are you… like mentally. You seem… off." She asked, Gary sighed and eased his shoulders.
"It's just… we almost lost a life back there… for nothing. Lannister hasn't said any useful information and as the days go by another assault might occur." he breathed out his worries, earning a back rub from Maxine.
"People have their limits. Lannister could break anytime. Let's just hope we're not too late." She assured him. It was a very negative statement but somehow it's actually helpful. Gary smiled and gave her a hug.
"Thanks Maxine." he said.
"Yeah. Don't ever think you're alone. I'm here for you. Actually, just last night. I had another memory restored. And it felt so important that you have to know it first. Before…" she said, her voice lowering down after every word.
"Before what?" Gary whispered jokingly. Maxine laughed and hit his chest gently.
"Nevermind that word. Back to my memory…
I…" she trailed off, looking like she was too shy and scared to finish the statement.
"You…?" Gary raised an eyebrow. Maxine took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
"I had an ex-girlfriend." She blurted and paused right after saying it, bracing at what Gary's reaction.
"I- uh.. That's okay… There's nothing wrong with that, Maxine." He said like he meant it. Maxine was too shocked about his reaction. Maybe she thought about it too much.
"Like… does that change anything?" She asked.
"Nothing at all. Oh wait! Yes! It does." Gary announced and Maxine's smile almost dropped.
"It means that if I want to have you, I'll have to step up my game. I have more competition now." He realized and Maxime sighed in relief. This man was about to get some scolding.
"You worried me, you know!" He continued gently hitting on Gary's chest, giggling away all her fears. He still accepted her. This was great.
"My point's valid!" He laughed, defending himself from her hits,.like children playing house. This may seem like a simple event, but this was the beginning of something new for the two of them.
Task Force 141 Base - Interrogation Room
Price sat in front of Gabriel, they've been silent for about an hour now as Gary and Soap stayed on the viewing area to observe the interrogation. Alex was here thirty minutes ago but he left after he got a phone call.
"What kind of twisted play is this?" Soap asked, crossing his arms and looking at Gabriel.
"The bastard won't talk. Just cut off a finger or something." He scoffed. To Gary, it would make sense, but with all the cameras and the formalities, It wasn't allowed. Especially that Gabriel's alibi was that he got their first to investigate. Which was total bullshit.
"He still has his ace on his sleeve. As long as we don't find proof of involvement, he's going to be free soon." Gary commented, making Soap grumble some Scottish curses.
"It's pretty obvious!" Soap yelled as Alex entered the interrogation room, saying something to Price as they immediately left him alone. Whatever that message was, looked way more important than Gabriel.
"We've got a lead on Nero!" Alex said as he peeked on the door, making the two stand up immediately and head to the briefing room.
"Operation Eye of the Storm." Price announced.
"In 24 hours, Nero and his newfound friends will meet on a hotel in Prague. This intel was from one of the Resistance Leaders Alex once teamed up with. They reached out for help since Nero started to secure the whole city." Price paced back and forth on the big screen.
"The plan is to eliminate Nero and his allies. As simple as that. We have the element of surprise in our hands. Soap, I want you to position yourself on the clock tower, just by the hotel. A bullet to the head should work. Alex will be watching your six. Jack will be our eyes and ears inside the convention. He'll be signaling when they'll be out on the open. Roach and I will enter the building for cleanup. We only had one shot at this so let's make it count." Price briefed and everyone else murmured their thoughts, some were already thanking for a solid lead. This was it. The final showdown. The end of the war.
PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC
Alex and Soap already left the resistance safehouse, they had to be at the clock tower tonight, using the concealment of the night and the noise of the rain for cover. The perfect opportunity to say under the radar. Meanwhile, Roach and Price stayed to defend the place as Nero's men once again ransacked the streets just to ensure his safety. The world may have announced that the war in US was over, but Nero still had some cities under his control. This minor setback was the reason he's planning for something new. And they're here to stop it.
"Alright, Roach. Your replacements here." Price said as he stood up from his spot.
"Get ready for the big day tomorrow." He added as he nodded and left his gun for the next person to use. Tomorrow's battle is going to be tough, and even though he didn't want to admit it, Roach needed some rest.
Despite the occasional gunfire and screaming, Roach was able to sleep. He didn't mind the battle outside the building as his battle was with Nero. Once Soap shot him dead, he would also want to shoot him again, just to feel satisfied.
0639H
Hotel Lustig
Prague, Czech Republic
Roach hid on the west wing of the hotel, while Price was on the other side. They were both clinging on to the walls as their entrance was at the small opening where Soap would shoot Nero. Roach eyed the convoy just below him.
"Convoy's up ahead. Nero should be in one of those cars." Soap muttered.
"Can't see shit through the lens. He could be anywhere." Alex added.
"Easy lads. We'll have a clear shot once they're in the balcony. Right Jack?" Price asked. Jack didn't respond, but maybe the signal inside was too weak.
"Jack? Do you copy?" Price asked.
"Da. I do copy, Captain Price. I'm just here to get my old prisoner back. I've had him in the gulag for quite a while but it seems this is our first time meeting face to face." A russian voice which everyone assumed to be Nero said in the most villainous tone possible.
"You're too predictable, Captain." he said as he clicked something, prompting an explosion on the clock tower.
"Get down! C4!" Price yelled as the two soldiers jump out, falling on to railings. Alex landed on a fruit cart by the tower while Soap landed on the car, crashing it as it alarmed.
"Roach! Go help them out!" Price ordered as Nero's men started to circle around the two while the resistance team helped them defend.
Roach quickly pulled Soap up who was groaning in pain. Alex looked pained too but the look in their eyes says that they're still willing to end this today.
"Let's catch up with them." Alex said as a resistance member tossed them a rifle and quickly hid for cover, pushing their way into the hotel. At the corner of Roach's eye, he saw Price enter the building, loading his gun and ready to end this as well.

'One bullet' : New chapter for "Redemption in a Spirit in a Cold War" is out !
'One bullet'
"Sometimes, I just want to be in an peaceful place with only you and no more work to stress us for good !"
Chapter Summary : After having an talk with Lazar's vision, Yirina is finally feeling determined to avenge her fallen friend and face Naga.....
To read it on AO3, click here !
Words : +3600
------------------------------------------------------------------
Lazar...He is far more different than Adler and when I saw him even if it was only an vision, I know that I could have an better talk with him, knowing that his words towards me will bring me some kind of hope I'm trying to find in myself since the crash, something that's giving an chance to give Garrett the retribution to kill every man serving under Naga's cartel and every Perseus soldier also protecting him. Our discussion couldn't last too many time and it was in an bit of sadness to see Lazar vanish in front of my eyes before I could reconcentrate myself.
Before actually leaving the place to get myself deeper in the jungle, I have to check the map to see where the house was and what direction I needed to take to get to Naga's HQ without trying to make too much noises along the way as we were close to Naga and I was alone without any means to contact the others. With that in mind and after finishing to check the map, I was in my way to get to Naga's HQ, ready to find Adler & avenge Garrett above all, it has to be done.
During my walk through the jungle on an little dirt path that was indicated on the map, I was wondering if the radio I stoled from the first patrol that wanted to check the crash, was going to emit at one moment, been shut down since I taunted Naga himself over it in an moment of rage. I have maybe blow out an chance to know more about what are Naga's moves in the area but I will now know as I was arriving next to his HQ.
"Shit, an sniper's nest." I whispered to myself as I was arriving at the end of the dirt path, marked on the map that was actually leading to an little place guarded by an sniper. "Gotta use my knife." I took out my knife of my boot, slowly advancing to get behind the guy and then, I moved to stab right in the neck side, getting my left hand on his mouth.
"Mmfff..." His voice was hopefully muffled by my hand, avoiding him to scream and to reveal to his friends that someone was getting killed. When his body went limp, I quickly get on the ground before getting to cover.
This little nest based on an little hill for that guy was in fact, overlooking the entrance of Naga's HQ and finally able to discover more about who was awaiting me & the others. Now, it was mostly Perseus soldiers that we were going to face, meaning that it was this place Adler was to be. But with those new pieces of informations, I couldn't risk to make an solo attack on that place. Even filled with rage, it's suicide to do this. I have to wait the others but when they will be here ?
"Patrol, it's been an hour that your radio went off." An voice said through the stolen radio I had with me, breaking the long silence from it and this voice...it was Naga. "Patrol, did you check if any survivors was there at the crash ?" He demanded again, apparently forgetting that someone else did respond to him an hour earlier.
"No one survived." I started, speaking at the dead guys place, making my voice clear to him while I was staying out of sight of the entrance. "Your guys are dead, Naga." I added.
"Who is this ?" He asked, sounding confused to hear an stranger's voice, he must have forgetten my taunt.
"Someone that you pissed off too much." I replied, my eyes focused on the dirth path I arrived in.
"Ah, you must be one of the survivors of that crash." He said, sounding like he had an revelation in his head. "How was that little fall ? We didn't see too much from my camp." He scoffed and I wasn't laughing at all, nothing came out of my mouth.
"I lost an friend." I breathed, blinking with my eyes, seeing that scene again. "Do you think it's funny ?" I questioned in an serious voice.
"In fact, it's not everyday that you brought down an Huey." He told me as I quickly look towards the base entrance, trying to find if the others were there.
"You always has been like that, Naga ?" I asked him rhetorically, remembering the memory I had when I met the guy. "Without an heart ? Merciless ? Brutal ?"
"Been an warlord isn't an line of work to have emotions." He decided to give me an answer anyway. "You know, I think you're all coming from your CIA friend....Russell Adler, I believe." He continued, almost sounding funny in his voice. "I'm afraid that...you are too late."
"Meaning ?" I whispered.
"Well, you have to come to my base to see." He replied, his voice clearly saying that my attempt to know more was useless "There's something that is maybe interesting you here....an little smell from the past." He joked at the end, hearing an laugh through the radio. Why is he telling me all of this ? Do he know that I was alone ?
"You're out of your mind." I said, giving my thoughts on that man, honestly.
"Wait !" He called me an bit loud, sounding to have something in his mind. "Your voice, it's sounding...familiar." He added before hearing him sort of getting up from an chair. "Ah...so, you're our Yirina Grigoriev but I think that people around you is calling you 'Bell', is that correct ?" He demanded, knowing that he was talking to 'Bell'
"That is correct." I responded, 'Bell' is the one talking right now. "Naga, you're going to release my friend or I will personally make sure that you and all your men will suffer." I threatened him in an dark voice, also giving me pain to still call Adler an friend.
"You aren't believing those words but it seems that Adler did really messed you up." He exclaimed, an noise of surprise in his voice.
"I don't know what you are talking about." I expressed, fainting to not know anything.
"Well, you will soon find out." He affirmed in an serious tone. "To make you know, you're the first person I will not personally have my hands around their necks." He admitted to me, making some noises through his radio. "You're our Queen of Hearts alongside the MI6 agent, Helen Park." I wasn't seeing him from my position but his words meaned that he was looking to the playing cards representing me & Park.
"To be captured alive." I whispered. "Yes, I saw them too." I continued, thinking that he was maybe looking surprised on his side.
"So, you learned that Perseus has ordered everyone to put their hands on you and that MI6 agent but instead, you decided to be on the field." He wondered to me
"Why we were going to hide ?" I demanded rhetorically. "I'm not intending to hide, Naga...I will find you and I will kill you." I confessed, putting all my fear in that threat to him.
"We'll see about this, you're probably still trying to find your way in here alone, it's going to be long." He said, not thinking at one second that I was having my eyes on his camp. "We'll be the firsts to capture you and before that, your friends will suffer another fate." He added. "Stitch will...."
"Sir !" Another voice came through his radio, cutting him and surprising me in place. "We spot the CIA strike team, they're almost at 200 m from the entrance." Those words caused me to quickly check the nest, finding some binoculars near the dead sniper before looking away from the entrance. They were all here : Park, Woods, Song, Sims, Wolf, Rivas along with others survivors from the latter team.
"Shit !" I muttered at their sight, mixed between been happy to see them after all these times but also because they were going into an trap.
"I'm sorry but I will be busy to cut the skins of your friends and hang them on the trees." Naga taunted me again. "Bye bye !" He added before the radio went off completely.
I couldn't stay useless here, only watching the others getting trapped by Naga's men at the entrance. Just after the radio went off, I could see that they were preparing to ambush the others, getting in cover and opening widely the gates that are leading inside the camp. I needed to do something and since I was in an sniper nest, I should prevent the others that they were walking straight into Naga's trap.
I quickly moved to grab the SVD Dragunov the dead sniper was using before getting in position, switching between looking at where Park and the team were walking and the entrance, trying to find if anyone was going to make an move and everyone was basically in their nerves about what will happen...including me. Everything can happen at the moment this ambush will occur but, it doesn't need to have an ambush....
With an thought crossing through my mind, I couldn't let the occasion for Perseus soldiers to attack first, meaning that I will attack first. I took an deep breath, staying steady to stabilize the Dragunov and then, I pulled the trigger. The first bullet I shot flied to hit an Perseus soldier that was hiding behind an wall with his friends and seeing him getting hit send an moment of panick in the soldiers. I took an few seconds to check Park and the team, seeing them running towards the entrance.
Once I was done, I resumed to fire with the Dragunov towards the numerous enemies that was keeping the entrance before the real gunfight began, starting the fight to get Naga for real. At my position, I was providing cover to the team below me but after an few moments, I saw through the scope of the sniper rifle that an RPG was aiming at my position and when I tried to shoot him, the sniper rifle ran out of bullets....shit !
It took me an second to react and the only thing I could do was to jump off from the sniper nest, not forgetting to grab my AK-47 to get down before the rocket hit my former position. I found myself to slide on the cliff, trying to not hurt myself before I was finally at the same level about the others, quickly moving to get to them in cover.
"Hey, Yirina !" Woods exclaimed, surprised to see me as I was now in cover with him, Park & Song while Sims, Wolf & Rivas were in another cover at a few meters from us with some of Rivas's men. "Shit, you've been through hell, it seems." He stated, looking at my clothes.
"I know." I whispered, after getting myself fully in cover next to him.
"Yiri, I'm been worried." Park said, going back into cover, her eyes true to her words.
"We've been trying to contact you but you weren't responding at all." Song expressed before firying some bullets from her XM4, killing some guys in the process. "What happened ?" She asked suddenly worried, returning in cover.
"Shit...I don't know but it seems that Naga was able to see through that our helicopter was something belonging to us." I replied, focused on also blasting with my gun to provide some cover to allow Sims, Wolf & Rivas to advance an little to another protection. "We've been hit by an RPG and we crashed....an hour ago." I added, closing my eyes after getting to cover again.
"And...and where's Garrett ?" Park questioned me and it caused me to look down, my eyes still closed.
"He...he's dead, Park." I responded, feeling the pain of telling them where's Garrett now and in an instant, I could see the pain on their faces, their eyes going wide and Song at the urge of crying while Park was speechless and in the same state as Song.
"It's...no....it can't be possible." Song breathed loudly after hearing me, getting her hands off her gun, dropping it on the ground.
"I'm sorry..." I told both in an very low voice.
"Damnit." Woods chuckled, mixed between shooting with his XM4 and listening to us, he was also feeling bad.
"He...." I stopped myself, starting to hear his voice again, telling me to kill Naga with the bullet I did make before leaving to get here and it was not by staying in that cover that I was going to do it. So, I reloaded my AK-47 and then, I suddenly jump out of cover, having spot during my suppressing fire an way to maybe get to Naga rapidly.
"Yirina !" I heard Park shout as I was running to get to the way I saw before : an entrance inside an house at the left of where Sims, Wolf & Rivas were located.
I passed in front of them before arriving into safety inside the house that was more looking an armory but I wasn't really in safety as there were an Perseus soldier in it, firying through an window. We both met eyes and I made the first move, literally throwing my own AK-47 to his face before starting to run over him to try to stab him but he managed to block my attempt with his right hand but since I wasn't able to stab, I took out my M1911 to shot at him in the chest two times before finishing him off with an bullet in the head.
At this moment, another door from the house at a few meters from me was force opened by an Perseus soldier, I tried to quickly shoot him but in fact, my M1911 was out of bullets, not having reload it after that attack that killed this 'Swift'. I was then going to throw an knife at him before someone fire multiples bullets in his direction, killing him and discovering Sims with his M60 in hands.
"For fuck sake, Yirina..." He said, putting himself in cover as I was moving to get to the broken door. "You almost got yourself killed."
"And ?" I asked him, grabbing back my AK-47 in hand that I threw to the first guy. "You're striking them from the front, I'm taking Naga." I explained to him.
"It's too risky, we need to...."
"Maybe but isn't our line of work ?" I cut him straight like that, blinded by my rage to finish off Naga. "He killed Garrett but I will be the one to kill."
"Yirina, I can't let you do this." He exclaimed, sounding sure of his words.
"He got Adler and you want me to let him live ?" I questioned him, finally moving to get in cover next to the broken door in case there were someone. "Don't follow me and don't try anything, Sims." I ordered before he resign himself to let me walk away as he was reloading his M60 before going out.
"Give me back Adler !" He screamed, along with his M60 as he was going out of his cover from the house, leaving me alone.
Surprisely, the little yard that was separing me from an sort of old temple was empty of enemies, maybe all focused to battle with the others, leaving me alone to get myself prepared to face Naga himself, maybe awaiting for his men to do the job for him but knowing Park and the others, he will wait very long and it's sure that he isn't going to wait long until I put the engraved bullet into his mad brain....for Garrett.
Despite facing no resistance from Perseus soldiers, I quickly move towards the yard to enter that old temple but it wasn't the main entrance of it and of course, I continued my advance inside of it, discovering an lot of gold bars stored here....like that. What all of these things are doing here ? I didn't let myself distracted until I arrived in an sort of main room with an sort of fountain in the middle but then....
"AAAAH !" A sort of war cry came inside the room, discovering Naga charging me with an knife, dressed in the same clothes that he was wearing in my memory. "Die !" He shouted again before I could avoid that strike from him.
"You're first !" I exclaimed towards him, taking out of my knife from my boot.
"Oh, here's our 'Winter Soldier'." Naga said, discovering me in person again, saying that stupid nickname linked to me. "I'm sorry to dissappoint you but your friend Adler...isn't here ! I can say that you & me, we're the same." He added as we both started to turn around each other, pointing to each other with our knife.
"So, it was an trap ?" I snorted.
"And of course, you all fall in it." He scoffed, sounding happy of having us in here. "You know what ? Enough of the talk and...fuck Perseus's orders." He looked at his knife before having his eyes hidden by his sunglasses looking at me. "I'm going to enjoy killing you slowly." He then start to attack first with his knife.
He directly tried to make an swing with his knife but I step back, avoiding the blade of it to touch me, not even making an cut through my clothes. However, he took the advantage that I wasn't attacking to charge me again, throwing himself against me and smashing my back against the stoned wall of the temple. He continued by kicking me in the chest with his knee before throwing me next to the fountain, still making sure that I wasn't going to make an move.
"Let's see how much time you will hold your breath." He taunted me before he grabbed my head to put it in the fountain, trying to drow me. I couldn't do an thing while he was having his left hand on my neck and the other controlling my hands, making me impossible to move before he removed my head from the fountain. "You know what ? Before killing you and after killing your friends, I will surely have an big taste on what's inside those clothes."
"Go fuck yourself !" I shouted, catching back my breath.
"Shut up, little slut !" He cursed, making my head going back inside that fountain but when he put my head inside, I could hear Garrett's voice again....'Kill him'....'Kill him'....and it did gave me more strenght as he pull me out of the water. "So, you're going be my favorite whore and all my men will certainely have an chance to see how much you'll begging before you plead me to end you." He scoffed, sounding certain to have win.
"In your fucking dreams !" I exclaimed, moving my legs to kick him in the waist, breaking his control over me and allowing me to grab back my knife that I dropped after he smashed me against the wall.
At this moment, I took the occasion that he was still trying to get up from my kicks that I approached him rapidly, making an single swing towards his left hand and I managed to cut off his left hand, making it drop in the ground before I start to punch Naga in the face multiples times as he was on the ground, breaking off his sunglasses, removing his green hood to discover his face and it didn't stop me to continue my moves.
I finally stopped to punch him, letting him to bleed, leaned against the fountain on the ground, breathing anormally after my numerous punches against him. Me, I was taking out the empty mag of my M1911 to insert the engraved bullet in it.
"You & I, we're not the same." I told him, inserting the bullet in the mag while looking at him, it was the words he used before our fight. "I'm not like you." I affirmed, loading the mag back into my M1911. "His name was Garrett Donovan." I added, aiming my gun towards Naga's badly hitten head.
"Yirina !" An male voice came in and I saw Woods with Park, Song & Sims. I wasn't paying attention at outside that the fighting was done. "Don't do it !" He ordered, making me look at him with an deadly glare.
"And why that ?" I demanded from him, my voice cracking. "He killed Garrett, why I would let him live ?" I said, looking at Park & Song that was still sad about that news, they were looking to be with me, wanting me to shoot that piece of shit on the ground.
"We got orders, Yirina." Sims called me out but I wasn't looking at him, focused on seeing Naga. "He might be useful for us to have intels of where's Adler ?" He added, trying to convince me of that.
"And you really think that his fucking shithead will help us ?" I shouted, angry.
"Yirina, if you shoot, we will have no chances." Woods joined Sims in his argument as Park & Song were staying silent, feeling that they wanted to shoot Naga too, hoping to have me do it. "Please, lower the gun." He suggested again, slowly approaching me to grab my gun away from me.
"I...I..." I started, getting confused inside of me about shooting him or not but I had to shoot him...for Garrett. "AAAH....Fuck !" I screamed, angrily lowering my gun, realizing that I wasn't going to shot Naga like when I wasn't able to shot Adler's vision. I couldn't look anyone in the eyes as I was having some tears coming from mine, starting to walk towards the path I came in here.....
"Leave me....I just need to be alone....I fucked up, Garrett !"

Waterparks and Waterworks
When we were in year 4 my friend had a birthday party at Wild Wadi.
On the day, we met up at the front of the park, myself, the birthday girl, her sister, our classmate and her three younger sisters.
We spent the afternoon running riot up and down steps, speeding through the lazy river, taking on the current in the wave pool and eventually stopping for chicken nuggets.
After our extremely overpriced lunch we decided we wanted to go on the family ride. It was the most fun cause we'd all get to go on it together; but it always had the longest queue.
While in theory it should have moved faster with multiple people per boat it also wasn't very fast and people had a tendancy to get wedged in.
So we decided to go and face the line.
As we climbed the hot stairs that weaved above the restaurant we made plans for how we would get the tube to go faster around the slide.
We discussed the intricate science of riding the walls in turns and who was going to get out and pull us round the bit in between the slides.
The queue snaked around the outside of waiting pool and up to the top of the park so we tacked ourselves on to the end and shuffled slowly forward with great anticipation for the next 20 minutes.
When we finally got to the front of the line the excitement was palpable.
The next empty boat came around we lept in.
First in was myself, the birthday girl and her sister. As our friend went to climb in the lifeguard called out and told us that we'd have to split the group into three and three, six of us couldn't go in one boat.
So I jokingly pointed out:
"You're wearing a different colour, we all match so we'll go together and see you guys at the top."
And off we went.
We weren't in the park for too much longer, but we continued to run and play until the had to kick us out to close up.
I thought everything was fine and we all went home to enjoy the rest of our weekends.
Cut to Sunday, it's the end of the school day and we've been sent a few at a time to get our bags and lunch boxes from our cubbies which sit in a thin corridor next to our classroom.
There's not a lot of space to move between the towering white shelves and the row of brass PE bag pegs. At one end is a fire door and the other leads back into the Year 3 / 4 block.
I was the last of my group, still fighting to get my book folder into my Lisa Frank backpack when suddenly, from no where my classmate's mother appears.
She storms up to me at my cubby and stands over me with a look of absolute rage. I look up slowly and as soon as my eyes meet hers she starts.
Her voice is hurried and hushed and her words were thick with distain for me - she wasn't supposed to be in the building, it wasn't pick up time.
She started off telling me how disgusting I was, how it's horrible to leave people out, to bully them.
I was shocked, I had no idea what she was talking about, her daughter was part of my closest group of friends, I'd never said anything to her, never done anything.
I stood paralysed with fear, she was inches from my face.
"just because someone has a different colour skin does not mean they cannot play with you."
I looked at her confused.
"you are to stay away from my daughter. I will make sure of it."
With that she walked away.
I stood by my cubby, frozen and terrified until my teacher popped her head round the door to hurry me along.
In a daze I walked back to my classroom and sat at my desk, looking across at the girl who's mother was now stood calmly waiting outside the window as if she hasn't just cornered and verbally accosted an 8 year old child.
I racked my brain trying to figure out what I'd done, what my friend had felt the need to tell her mum and how the hell her skin colour came into it.
As I sat in the car I was still quiet, trying to untangle the memory of every conversation I had had with her in the last week.
Suddenly it clicked.
The family ride.
When I made the comment about the swimming costumes she must have thought I'd said she was a different colour so she couldn't come in with us.
I was mortified, that wasn't what I had said at all. I had to make it right, I had to explain.
The next day I walked into class ready to clear the air and make things right.
I sat at my desk and waited for her but when she did walk in, she made a beeline for a table across the room.
Her mum had obviously had words with our teacher and had her moved away from me, but she didn't seem to have told her why because I never got spoken to about it.
I'd have to wait for playtime.
The bell rang and we all lined up. As the doors opened and we began our 20 minutes of outdoor freedom I made my way over to my friend.
Reaching out I touched her arm to get her attention but she scoffed, shrugged and trotted off.
I tried again and again for weeks to speak to her and explain that I hadn't said what she thought I said. That it was all a misunderstanding, a joke that went wrong but I was met with shrugs, scoffs, side-eyes and walk offs.
She completely distanced herself from us, never telling anyone what happened. She started spending her breaks in the library instead of outside, she sat alone on the carpet in class and partnered with whoever was left after the mad frenzy of picking in PE.
Her mother poisoned her against me, you could see it. Every time she picked her up or dropped her off she would look at me with eyes like daggers, say something and then leave. But I never told anyone either. I didn't know what she would do, she'd already got into the school where she wasn't allowed in order to tell me off, what would be next.
When our friend's family moved away at the end of year 4 there was zero common ground, we were in the same class for the next 3 years, we never talked once.
What happened that day in the cubbies will forever sit in the back of my mind.
It was the first time I ever truly saw what racism could do to a person, to a relationship.
For me, I had never really put any stock in the fact that our skin was different until that moment, it was just something that was, like having different coloured eyes or hair.
Suddenly my eyes were open to the fact that there were people in the world who didn't see it that way. People who thought they were better than another person because of the colour of their skin and that now, in the eyes of this family at least, I was one of those people.
A few years ago she added me on Facebook and we talked a little bit. Now she pops up on my feed every so often but that's about it.
I don't know if she remembers, I don't know if she knows what her mum did for her and I sometimes wonder if I should tell her what I actually said...

The Lines Between Ricks And Mortys – Chapter 5: Looks like we'll have to change tactics for this one / I'm not the real bad guy here
AN: Things are going to pick up in this chapter and some puzzle pieces will finally fall in place and confirm what a lot of you readers most likely have already guessed. Warnings: more Morty battles (so it gets violent again), smut in the form of an orgy (five Mortys on one Rick) – yes, you read that right. I'm not kidding you. That's really in this chapter. Might feel a bit non-con, but is more dub-con though.
The Lines Between Ricks And Mortys – Chapter 5: Looks like we'll have to change tactics for this one / I'm not the real bad guy here As they walked through the portal, they were greeted by darkness. Not pitch-blackness like in a cave without a source of light. It was more the kind of darkness that you have in the middle of a night that was only illuminated by the moon and the stars in the sky. Just that in this dimension, the stars were on the ground. At least that's what it looked like to Morty as he saw the shimmering lights on the dark-blue soil and grass that emitted a soft glow. It was a breathtaking sight. Sadly, Morty didn't had time to admire it as his Rick was completely unfazed by the wonders of this new dimension and pressed onwards. His eyes were fixated on his Mortytector like so often and he was probably analyzing whatever data the device showed him to determine which the strongest Morty that freely roamed this dimension was and how to get to him the fastest. They continued on for a while until they witnessed an alien trainer fighting against a wild Morty. Presumably the one that Rick had wanted to catch. "Looks like we're too late, Rick. This guy is probably going to catch that Morty now." He told his grandfather. "We'll see." Rick seethed between his teeth, not wanting to believe that he let that one get away. Team C-137 watched the brown blob-like alien send in one Morty after the other and with each defeated boy, Morty C-137's eyes grew wider and his face paler. "What?! That can't be!!" The alien screeched after his last Morty was also defeated. "Hell yes!" Rick cheered. "See, Morty. He's still free for us to catch. And just look at how crazy strong he is. There's no way I'm gonna lose against anyone if I have this guy in my team!" His grandson gulped audibly. Trying to catch this Morty involved fighting against him first and after seeing just how strong his other-dimensional counterpart was first hand, it left him with zero confidence. "C'mon, Mortys! After him!" Rick yelled as he dashed behind the brunet before he could get too far away. Not that he wouldn't be able to find him again with his Mortytector, but why stall when he was right there? Morty whined a little, but obediently followed with the rest of the group behind the excited scientist.
"Well, this just doesn't work out." Rick C-137 mused loudly and crossed his arms over his chest. His entourage of Mortys was behind him and panting as if they just finished a marathon. In a way they did, seeing as they had tried to catch that wild Morty for the last two hours without much success. He just managed to escape every time and didn't let himself get cornered. It was getting quite frustrating to say the least. "Okay, looks like we'll have to change tactics for this one." Rick continued. "But I already have an idea. He's just a Morty, so it really shouldn't be so hard to catch him." "What's that supposed to mean?" His original Morty immediately complained. "What? I'm just stating a fact. He is a Morty. And there's no way that a Morty could ever outsm—outrun me." Rick caught himself on that one. He had almost accidentally said 'outsmart', but that wasn't even something that a Rick should ever be thinking about. There was absolutely no way that a Morty could ever outsmart a Rick especially not the rickest Rick. That thieving Morty fanboy from Mysterious Rick, who had stolen his portal gun, was not counting. That had nothing to do with getting outsmarted!! "We're just going to make a few traps. There's no way that that won't work." The scientist stated confidently. So, they – they being just the Mortys of course – went to build a few simple traps like you would see them in comic books. Leg-hold traps, snares, dug out pits and even the classic rod underneath a box traps were laid out and equipped with bait. Morty eyed the constructions warily and doubted the effectiveness of it all. "Are you really serious about this, Rick? I mean, aren't these traps a bit too obvious?" He asked. "And what's with the bait anyways? There's no way that anyone is going to fall for that." The traps were indeed not hidden very well and the bait were snacks, soda cans and some comic books and porn mags. Obviously none of these things would just lay around somewhere in the wild, so there was no way that anyone would be really dumb enough to fall for that. "Just you wait, Morty. Just you wait." Rick said only as he seated himself behind a bush to wait for the Morty to show up and run straight into one of the sloppy traps. His grandson just sighed and shook his head as he seated himself next to him as the rest of the Mortys also went into hiding, each right next to one of the traps that they had built.
Rick was right – as always. Morty was so ashamed of himself as every single trap was activated and in each one was a captured Morty. It was really embarrassing to think that he could be caught this easily. In such barely hidden traps and with such obvious bait. But it had worked and yet… "Dammit!" Rick cursed. While it was true that there was a Morty in every single one of the traps, none of them were the wild Morty that he had been aiming for. It seemed as if this one wasn't just super strong and crazy fast, but also a little clever. "Looks like we have to change plans again." Rick concluded. "C'mon, Mortys." Morty C-137 jerked away from peeking inside one of the bait porn mags. "Wait, Rick! Aren't you going to release the caught Mortys again?" His complaint was ignored and he was forced to quickly follow the retreating scientist lest he was left behind.
"If nothing else works, we have just have to use brute force." Rick explained. Well, the term "explained" was used very loosely here. Rick's plan was simply to wait for the wild Morty to walk underneath the trees that they were currently sitted on and then just all jump on him at once. No more chasing, no more bating and if everything went as it was planned then even no battling involved. Needless to say that Morty still didn't like this idea even though he should be glad that they could avoid fighting against that crazy strong Morty. Super Morty Fan had obviously loved the idea and Shadow Morty was just rather confused about it than anything else, but they were all in on this. Morty C-137 sighed quietly as his grandfather occasionally checked his Mortytector to ensure that their pray was on its way to them. Luckily, he was just about to pass by. "Get ready, Mortys." Rick whispered loudly and his team readied itself to pounce on their unsuspecting victim any moment now. Not too long after, the Morty in question really wandered completely unaware of what would await him on this path. "NOW!" Rick gave the command and team C-137 jumped simultaneously down. Everyone, minus Rick, pounced on the unsuspecting Morty and nearly squished him under their combined weight. Muffled yells came from the captured boy, but he was unable to get up again or free himself. Rick jumped down last and landed squarely on his grandson's back, ignored the pained yowl that it caused. He fumbled to reach between the mass of pubescent teenage boys (including one girl and one specter) until the wild Morty's head was in range, then pressed the injector to his temple and waited. Only after the positive beeping sound rang through the air, did the Mortys scrambled to get down from their newest addition. The caught Morty's eyes were dazed for a while as was typically for when the manipulator chip overrode the memories and after his vision focused again, he looked at Rick, looking even more lost than he did when the chip was still busy. "Mr. Allen?" The Morty in the black robes reminiscent of a judge asked as he looked very suspiciously at the scientist. "What?" Rick was at a loss. Who was Mr. Allen? Did he have a different name in that boy's dimension. "You know what? Never mind." He gave up wondering about that with a sigh. "Let's just go, Morty." "Go where? And I don't remember giving you permission to call me by my fist name, Mr. Allen." 'Or maybe the chip is broken?' Rick thought now. At least Judge Morty's defiance struck him as a malfunction. "H-hey?" As he was still fixed by the boy's glare, he bent down to his grandson and whispered, "You'd think I should put a second manipulator chip on him? Y'know, just in case…" "I don't think that it's such a good idea, Rick." Morty whispered back. Maybe catching this one wasn't such a good idea. But damn, if this Morty wasn't a badass!
After many discussions, Rick – who was still being mistaken for Rick Allen by Judge Morty…whoever that guy was – managed to lead his group of five Mortys to the next arena. While usually Morty would be rather impressed or frightened by the "gym leaders" that they met, he wasn't really sure what to think of this one. "This Rick looks like a Dragon Ball reference." Morty commented more embarrassed than impressed as he eyed Shibuya Rick. "What-what-what's that, Morty? Don't be such a little bitch about it." His Rick defended their opponent. "I-I mean, it's not like you would know if that Rick isn't actually the equivalent to Vegeta in his dimension or something." Morty looked with big expectant eyes at him. "Is he?" "No." was the flat reply. "He's just a bad cosplayer." "Cut the small talk and let's get to the point, Rick!" Shibuya Rick looked clearly annoyed by the duo chitchatting as they were. "That's actually an idea that I agree with. Let's just dive into the battle. Morty—" C-137 was about to send in his grandson when he was interrupted by his opponent. "If you like that idea, I have an even better one for you." The platinum-blond Rick offered. "How about a battle royal instead of the lame one-on-one?" "Isn't that against the rules?" Morty C-137 spoke up as he looked over their opponents. Next to Shibuya Rick stood (or floated) a Psychokinetic Morty, a Mortysaurus, a Gaseous Morty, a Flaming Morty and a Frozen Morty. Even this guy's Mortys seemed to be a bunch of anime and comic references. "Sounds exciting. I'm all for it." Rick C-137 apparently didn't give a fuck about the rules. He honestly thought that in comparison to his opponent, he was probably way overpowered now anyways. While his original Morty was only really useful in battle when he snapped – or at least when he was really determined about it – his Morticia was really dedicated and quite strong ("for a girl"), the manic Super Fan Morty was also not easily beatable, his Shadow Morty was practically invincible and while he couldn't test his Judge Morty in an actual battle yet, he already knew that this one was super strong, fast and clever. There was no way that he could ever lose. Especially with a bunch like that. "Rick!" Morty C-137 protested that his grandfather was so ready to ignore the rules and just make this battle more dangerous than it needed to be. An all-versus-all? Really now? That meant that they all needed to fight at once. Aside from the fact that there would be no rest for them between the fights, it also would be pure chaos for Rick to give them a proper strategy. He couldn't really issue commands to all of his Mortys at the same time. However, this flaw was something that Rick C-137 readily overlooked at the prospect of crushing the enemy and flaunting with his strong team of Mortys. Besides, the other Rick was right, he had started to grow bored of the old rule-based battle schematics. I mean what it this? Some sort of round-based Fantasy JRPG or something? Shibuya Rick looked delighted that C-137 had so readily agreed to his idea. Of course, he didn't just come up with this simply out of boredom. He had a plan and it would lead him to victory – as always. "Okay, then. Let's battle, Rick. Just don't get my clothes dirty. It takes work to look this good, Rick. I don't need you messing it up." With those words, he ran a hand through his extremely spikey hair, looking every bit the arrogant asshole that he was. C-137 ignored it. "Get ready, Mortys." Both teams of five entered the middle of the arena, staring fiercely at their opponents. Well, team C-137 mostly tried to look fiercely, but in all truth, they looked a little nervous. Each wondered whom they should single out and attack from their opponents, while their counterparts didn't look like they had the same troubles. Something was fishy here… "Well, then Mortys. Get going. You know the drill." Shibuya Rick said and thus started the battle. While team C-137 was still waiting for orders from their Rick who to attack, the opponents didn't wait for anything. They all targeted Super Morty Fan Morty first, who actually looked delighted instead of frightened (as he should be) when they all approached him. The Mortysaurus bit into his arm and held him still as a stinking cloud began to surround the two of them – without a doubt the work of the Gaseous Morty. As if following a signal Mortysaurus let go again – much to the fanboys dismay even if the bite had hurt – and Flaming Morty suddenly set him on fire. The Super Fan screeched in panic and tried to roll around on the ground to put the fire out again, but he didn't get very far with it. The next thing he knew was that he turned into a frozen popsicle – if it was even possible for him to still be aware of that. Without question the handiwork of the Frozen Morty. The finishing move was delivered by the Psychokinetic Morty, who lifted the solid ice block in the air with his mental powers before letting it drop to the ground again. The force of the impact shattered the ice and revealed an unconsciousness Super Morty Fan Morty. The first Morty of Team C-137 was already down and so quickly. "Rick!" Morty C-137 yelled in a panic at seeing how quickly that went down without anyone of them able to prevent that. "Calm down, Morty." Rick instructed from the sidelines while looking like he tried his hardest not to lose his nerves either. "Don't act like an idiot and just fight back!" Team C-137 indeed tried to fight back, but it wasn't going all too well. Morticia screeched as she tried to punch the Flaming Morty and ended up burning her hand. Shadow Morty tried in vain to reach Psychokinetic Morty, but even his many tendrils were constantly being pushed back the psychic's mental powers. Judge Morty just squinted at the Gaseous Morty, clearly at a loss what do to with an opponent that had no solid form. And Morty nursed his hand which had received frostbite from trying to attack Frozen Morty before he squeaked and ran away as he saw the Mortysaurus approaching him with his sharp teeth. It was complete chaos. "It's all about mind over matter. And I think you don't really have what it takes to beat me, Rick." Shibuya Rick mocked as he unnecessarily straightened out his cheetah patterned shirt. Rick C-137 scowled as he saw that his oh-so overpowered team was indeed about to lose. He didn't understand why in the universe this could be happening. Just why was this going so wrong even though he was pretty sure that he should have the upper hand in this battle? His Mortys were clearly the stronger ones so how could that be? He didn't really need to think long as he saw the enemies teaming up again to try and take out his grandson now. The problem was that Shibuya Rick's team was attacking them systematically – they all worked together as if they were one, not even needing any orders or instructions from their Rick. His own team on the other hand was totally uncoordinated and relied on him to give them orders on what to do. Something that was even getting hard for a genius like him to manage with so much stuff going on at once. "Goddammit, Mortys! You need to work together on this one!" Rick yelled over the battlefield. "Quit doing your own shit and look at how the enemy is doing it! You just need to do the same thing!" Sure, maybe it sounded cheap to just copy the enemy's strategy, but it was a working strategy and if it came down to pure strength, they could still come out as the winners even if he was already one Morty short (and not counting the injuries his Mortys had already sustained). Morty C-137 stopped to think for a moment even if he was getting cornered by the enemy. The enemy was singling them out to take them out one after another, all working together on that. Of course, if you were attacked by five opponents at once, you wouldn't be able to stand a chance, no matter how strong you are. So, what they needed to do was break that teamwork apart and work together on taking the enemy out. "I think, I got!" he declared loud enough for his team members to hear. "We need to stop relying on Rick and coordinate our attacks!" Rick C-137 nodded approvingly on the sideline, glad that his grandson wasn't as stupid as he always said he was and that he finally understood. Though while figuring out what to do was a good start, doing it was still a different matter. And this was what would decide over victory or loss. Despite the flash of genius, Frozen Morty was still advancing on C-137 with the intent to freeze him up. "Judge Morty!" he called out in his panic as the other came way too close for comfort. The judiciary abandoned his gaseous enemy and came to the rescue. Instead of using his bare hands as C-137 had tried before him, he struck his enemy with a wooden gavel and hit with dead precision. Frozen Morty tumbled to the side and landed on the ground. C-137, glad that this enemy was out of the way since Judge Morty was going to take care of him now, was now faced with the Mortysaurus, who was also still advancing on him. "Morticia! I could use your help here!" He called for his female counterpart. The girl overlooked their rivalry for this battle and came to his side, so they could take on the dangerous Godzilla-like Morty together. As they fought back against him, Flaming Morty was trying to land an attack on both of them from the air. Fortunately, C-137 saw it coming in time. "Shadow Morty! You take care of this guy!" The specter didn't waste any time and attacked the Firestarter before he could cause any more damage. Luckily, being a phantom made out of shadows made him pretty fire resistant, so he didn't sustain any damaged when he wrapped his dark tendrils around the living flame. Soon the shadowy swirls were able to extinguish the fire and Flaming Morty dropped on the ground – unconscious. The duo meanwhile had also managed to render the Mortysaurus incapacitated and Judge Morty was also done with Frozen Morty by now. The Gaseous Morty looked utterly terrified in the face of the four Mortys who were approaching him now. With a sound that was reminiscent of a fart, he flew over to his Rick and hid behind his back. "What the heck do you think you're doing?! Get back in there you cowardly weakling!" Shibuya Rick's smug expression had been quickly wiped off his face as he suddenly saw one Morty fall after the other and he was legitimately angry now. "Looks like your Fart Morty is clever and knows when to give up." C-137 mocked from his side of the arena now. "Who's talking about giving up? We're not defeated yet." True to his word, Shibuya Rick's Psychokinetic Morty was still standing on the battleground. Being the only one left, naturally he was getting cornered by the four Mortys from team C-137 now. Unfortunately, they had to learn that this Akira reject was not a pushover. Just like Shadow Morty's previous attempts at landing an attack, the other Mortys fared no better. Not one of them came close enough to the opponent to land an attack on him. Psychokinetic Morty used his powers to lift them all up into the air and let them drop on the ground again, just as he had done with Super Morty Fan Morty before. Fortunately, they weren't already as badly wounded as their teammate had been, but it still hurt and pushed the air out of the Mortys' lungs. The only one that had been mostly unaffected by the attack was Shadow Morty, who rose to the sky again. "Shadow Morty, attack him like you did before again." C-137 wheezed as he picked himself up from the ground again. "Why? It didn't work before." Morticia chimed in, not understanding why to repeat something, which had been already a useless attack. "Just trust me on this one." Morty told her and then instructed the specter again. "Try to use as many tendrils as you can and concentrate the attacks on his front." Shadow Morty followed the orders even if he himself was not able to see the point. He vicariously tried to attack the Psychokinetic on the front, but unsurprisingly he blocked every last one of them, keeping the tentacle-like shadow appendages at bay. As she watched the one-sided battle unfold, Morticia slowly seemed to understand her companions plan and she nodded towards Morty and Judge Morty, seeing that they were all on the same page now. Psychokinetic Morty was still fully concentrated on mentally blocking the specters attacks and despite his Rick's (late) warning call, he never knew what hit him as he was suddenly attacked by the other three Mortys from the back. The fight was over quickly after that since he lost his concentration to properly fight back or even defend himself. Shibuya Rick was stumped. He turned around to look for his traitorous Gaseous Morty, but the none-physical boy had already fled the scene, so it was clearly a loss for him now. He grit his teeth as he faced his opponent again. "My Morty's power level must be too low. I need to train more." Was his admittance to his defeat. Without much fuss, he handed over his badge and opened a portal while team C-137 celebrated their victory with cheering and fist bumps. Rick smiled at his Mortys, feeling quite proud of how well they did in this fight – especially his grandson. "That was some good teamwork and some nifty, strategic thinking." He praised. "And now pick up the unconsciousness fanboy and let's leave this shithole dimension." And the fondness was gone again as quickly as it had come…
"…so yeah, Rick D-9 is also out of the question." Morty K-4872 concluded. The Mortys were back to telephone conferencing. "So, we don't have any suspects anymore now, huh?" C-133 spoke up. K-4872 replied again. "I don't think so. What about Storage Rick?" "I've already talked to him. He was the first one that I talked to." C-137 said. "Y-yeah, but wa-wasn't he the o-one that t-told y-you ab-about the other R-Ricks?" A-22β6 asked in his stuttering voice. "I agree. That seems awfully suspicious of him to just draw the attention to other Ricks just so that he's off the hook." C-133 had to agree. "W-well, he said that the Day Care is a safe place and that he had nothing to do with it, but you're right. I guess it's really suspicious that he defended himself like that and then started to point his finger at other Ricks." C-137 realized his mistake. "I'll have to check him out again." A-22β6's voice piped up again. "M-me and my R-Rick will a-a-also cu-come with." "I think that's a good idea. I'll come with my Rick, too, and we'll interrogate him together." C-133 chimed in. "I would like to come also, but I have to investigate a different lead." K-4872 apologized. "It's an information that I got from Rick D-9, but I'm not sure if it has something to do with this. It does concern the owner of the Morty Day Care though." "That's okay. I think we three will be enough for this." C-137 spoke again. "We're currently on the way to the hotel, but I think the Day Care is closed already anyways, so we should go check it out first thing tomorrow morning. When does it open up again?" "Sh-should be a-around 8." "Okay then we meet tomorrow 8 am in front of the Day Care." "Good. See ya guys then." The Mortys then all bid their good-byes and hung up. Morty C-137 felt a little angry with himself that he just let that Storage Rick off the hook so easily. He should have been more suspicious about the fact that he went on the defense so fast and then tried to divert the attention to some of the other Ricks. This Rick was certainly the most suspicious one out of all of them now. "Wow, you seem really engaged in that case." Morticia commented. She had overheard a few of those telephoneconferencings and therefore had also gotten a whiff of this Morty trafficking schemes and that Morty and his friends were trying to find the perpetrator. However, she did find it a bit silly for them to get involved in this. Shouldn't they just let the CPD or the Citadel's militia handle this? Morty C-137 already knew the girl's opinion on this whole thing and her comment made him more angry than necessary at the moment. "Well, how would you feel if you were kidnapped and brought to a strange place where a Rick would just use you sexually against your will?!" All the Mortys just stood stunned into silence. It seemed that C-137 was projecting what had happened to him and therefore took this crime rather personally. Since none of the other Mortys knew about what had happened between him and Mysterious Rick, they had no words to offer in regards to the emotional outburst. Rick took a sip from his flask and only eyed his original Morty, not commenting on the situation. However, he thought that they should just be done with this whole crap fast, so that they could finally start to work out Morty's issue with what had happened. The boy certainly needed it.
Storage Rick sat in the small parlor, smoking and reminiscing about all the stuff that had happened in the last weeks. In a way, it felt all too weird to be true, but it definitely happened and he would be reminded of it each day. This whole thing had started after that one night – the night where that Blue Shirt Morty had come onto him. And from there on everything just went downhill. Things got out of hand and that way too fast. It was just the next night that another Morty came into his room. This wasn't unusual, but unlike the other times that one of the boys would come and ask for cuddles and just sleeping in bed next to him, he asked Storage Rick to have sex with him. After that, it would happen again and again and again. Every night a different Morty would come into his room and wanted to get fucked by him instead of just wanting the simple affections that Rick had always given out at the time as part of his daily routine. He couldn't really explain it and he also found no pattern for why it happened. Sometimes it were Mortys that he had just released from their cryogenic sleep that day and other times it were Mortys that had been around the Day Care for a long time already. He couldn't explain why those horny little bastards suddenly decided to relieve their sexual tension with him. Part of him wondered if that first Morty had just told some of the others about their sex and planted weird ideas in their confused little heads. Still, that didn't sound like a satisfying answer, but then again it wasn't really an answer that he was looking for. He needed a solution. Especially after that one night when things had gotten completely out of control! He remembered still how he had laid in bed, eyes already closed, but still awake as he practically expected his door to open any moment now. And he shouldn't be disappointed because open it did. With an almost inaudible sigh, he blinked his eyes open to check, which of his Mortys had decided to visit him this night. Honestly, he kind of hoped that it would be his favorite – that Blue Shirt Morty – who still came to him about every other night at least. What greeted him instead was something that he really hadn't expected at all. It wasn't just one single Morty that came in and approached his bed – it were five. He tried to make out the intruders in the darkness and could recognize that it was a Reptile Morty, a Business Morty, an Evil Rabbit Morty, a Robot Morty and a Blob Morty. "Hey! What's all this about?" he asked as he sat up. They surely couldn't be here because of the "usual" – whatever the usual actually was at this point. However, completely unfazed the bunch of Mortys crawled on his small bed. "Just relax, Rick." "Yeah, let us handle this." "We just want to make you feel good." They said, as they approached him and his queen-sized bed suddenly felt way too small. Before Storage Rick even had the chance to protest, he was roughly pushed back onto the mattress and the Business Morty – one of the two culprits that pushed him – crawled up his body until he straddled his face, pressing his crotch right against his mouth. All struggle was in vain, as his hands were held by his side by strong furry paws and he couldn't lift his head up with the weight on his face so Rick could only lay back and let things unfold. It didn't even take long for him to get hard as he inhaled the smell of arousal directly from Business Morty's crotch, who moaned and mewled happily as he rubbed his hardening bulge all over his mouth and nose. Any protests that he still tried to make, came out muffled and aroused the boy only more as it caused vibrations against his stiff dick. The other Mortys also weren't just idle. In quick movements, eight hands rid him of all his remaining clothes and started to explore his body. Since he couldn't see what was going on, Rick could only guess, which Morty was doing what to him. He could feel furry paws roaming over his chest, one clawed scaly hand rubbing one of his thighs after prying his legs apart and one cold and metallic hand grasping and stroking his other one. The weirdest sensation was the one on his stomach though. It felt weirdly warm and slimy. Oh, right. The Blob Morty. He gulped a little as he felt the slick sensation move towards his abdomen, slowly closing in on his tall standing and by now fully hard erection. His concentration was ripped away from that as an eager tongue started to lap at one of his nipples. A sharp pinching sensation made him gasp as the Evil Rabbit Morty nipped a little too hard on it, but Rick didn't really mind the pain. Just as the pink tongue lapped apologetically over his aching nub, claws were digging into the skin of his thighs – deep enough to leave scratches, maybe even scars. So caught up in the mix of sensations, he didn't notice when the Blob Morty bent down over him and took his erection inside his mouth – or well, just inside his body – until it already happened. Shit! The feel of that warm gooey substance was enough to drive him nuts! The smell of musk grew even stronger as Business Morty finally freed his throbbing cock from his pants and underwear and shoved it directly in Rick's face. The old man groaned, feeling more turned on by being dominated like this than he would like to admit. Again, he wasn't aware until it was already too late when a metallic "finger" worked its way into his anus, slowly probing deeper. He hissed a little at the sensation. The metal felt smooth though the shape was weird and nothing like a human finger and the lack of lubrication still caused a slight, burning sensation inside him. As if reading his thoughts, Robot Morty said, "Hey, Reptile. Lube me up with your spit." The thought wasn't the most pleasant when Rick pictured the violet spittle of the scaly Morty, but there was little that he could do in his current position and it was probably better than no lube at all. There wasn't much time for thought though as a harsh pinch on his other nipple caused by rodent incisors made him forget everything and cry out a little in surprise. The moment that his mouth was open, Business Morty must have been getting tired of just rubbing his dick all over Rick's face and shoved it inside his mouth. Rick, never one to displease a lover, sucked immediately on the intrusive fleshy pole. Bobbing and moaning around the delicious little cock, he was surprised again when he became aware of another sensation once more. His eyes widened as slicked metal started to slide into his ass and it wasn't only because it felt cold. 'That doesn't feel like his finger…' he pointed out inside his mind as the thicker and longer object slid deeper and deeper inside him. What part of Robot Morty was that? Did he even have a part like that? It was only then that he suddenly understood what the other Mortys had always meant when they talked about Robot Morty playing with his "joystick". Where was the boy even hiding that thing? The "stick" was now poking right into his prostrate and made him moan loudly around the meat in his mouth. He almost missed completely that Blob Morty who had been slurping eagerly at his cock had stopped doing that and shifted around to sit down on him. While the sensation wasn't that extremely different – the sticky goo of his body kind of felt the same no matter where you would stick your dick in – he did notice that it was vaguely different. The sucking motion and the sounds where the slightest bit different and obviously the boy wasn't making gagging sounds anymore, but used his now free mouth to moan like a bitch in heat. Storage Rick felt a little disappointed that he wasn't able to see the pink blob fuck himself on his dick, but oh well. Tough luck. That disappointment didn't really last all that long as he could feel Robot Morty thrusting into him in hard and fast movements, hitting his prostrate every time with an unbelievable precision. The Business Morty was also thrusting into his mouth, forcing Rick to deepthroat him, which he gladly did. In between the actions, he was only dimly aware that one furry paw grabbed his hand and made it wrap around something pulsing and warm. It only registered fully to him when Evil Rabbit Morty started to hump into his hand what that object was and he tried to help by massaging the furry boy's erection. His other hand was soon occupied likewise as Reptile Morty also grabbed for his hand so he would stroke his two stiff members, too. With everything that was happening around (and inside) him, Storage Rick wasn't able to last for very long. With a muffled moan – that sounded more like a scream – he bucked his hips and came. Not a second later, cum shot into his mouth and down his throat as Business Morty also reached his climax. A wetness on his hands, chest and stomach told him that Evil Rabbit and Reptile had also found their release. It was hard to tell with Blob Morty and in the case of Robot Morty, Rick wasn't even sure if he was physically possible of ejaculation. It didn't matter though as the metallic rod pulled out of him. Blob Morty also got off from his now limp dick and Business Morty had also pulled out of his mouth. Rick released a little sigh of relieve as he tried to catch his breath. Finally, it was over. Or, so he thought. Unfortunately, he noticed quickly that the Mortys were only swapping positions with each other and they started to pat and stroke his body all over again to bring him back to hardness. "Oh c'mon. Gimme a break." He groaned. Of course, he couldn't keep up with five horny teenagers. He was just one man! And despite being as fit as he was in his age, he was an old man at that. That fact didn't stop the horny Mortys though… After that night, he knew that he couldn't handle these abandoned Mortys anymore and that something needed to be done whether the higher ups finally made a decision or not. It must have been fate – even though no Rick believes in such a thing – that a solution showed up on his doorstep right the morning after. After he had opened up the Day Care, the Rick Guard had looked over to him and then actually abandoned his post to come over and talk to him. It was the guard that had just arrived for his morning shift and had exchanged the post with the nightshift guard while Storage Rick opened the store. "Hey, you look like shit. Didn't get any sleep last night?" he asked after having noticed the heavy dark bags underneath his eyes. "Yeah. The Mortys kept me awake." Storage Rick explained, carefully leaving out the detail how they had kept him awake. That wasn't anyone's but his and the Mortys' business, so no one needed to know about that. "They're becoming a handful, huh?" The guard commented. "You bet. I mean they always were, but I feel like things are totally getting out of hand recently…" "Need some help to take them off your back?" Guard Rick asked after he looked around and made sure that no one was in hearing range. Storage Rick's eyes narrowed and he knew that he shouldn't, but he asked what the guard had to offer him anyways. Guard Rick only grinned before he proposed to him the offer of his lifetime. Storage Rick knew that what he did was probably not okay. He was violating regulations. He was handing out Mortys to someone other than their owners and that without a specific permission from the higher ups. He let those Mortys be carted off to a brothel. It wasn't right, none of it was, but he still did it anyways. He just kept telling himself that if those Mortys were so eager for a Rick's cock then they would get what they wanted there and he wouldn't have to worry about them anymore. So, any Mortys that still continued to come onto him in the night were fair game to be shipped off. It wasn't like their owners would ever come back to retrieve them anyways. They were abandoned Mortys and no one ever came back for them! Therefore, Storage Rick tried not to feel bad about it. Was trying to tell himself that what he did was the right choice. Heck, they didn't pay him enough to deal with all of this bullshit and this offer wasn't just the perfect solution for his problems, but also earned him something extra. Since he had started with this he couldn't just back out of it anymore, no matter how illegal it was. He probably would have if there weren't constantly Mortys trying to get into his pants because he didn't want to ship off any that were not interested in something like that. He wouldn't condemn innocent Mortys to such a fate. However, for whatever reasons, many of his Mortys seemed to get the appeal and made advances on him so it wasn't like he planned to stop these illegal shipments anytime soon. The only Morty that he didn't dare to send off was the first one, the Blue Shirt Morty. He couldn't really say why, but he just couldn't get rid of him. It was probably too much to say that he was special in anyway because Mortys were never special, but this one had just grown on Storage Rick. The little shit was almost constantly at his side, helping him out around work and after working hours. It was almost as if this was HIS Morty and he kind of liked that and not just because of the great sex that he had with him. This Morty was probably the only one that he could never give away. Maybe not even when his original Rick would ever show up and want to withdraw him again. He took another drag from his cigarette and held his breath. Before he could release the smoke again, a pair of soft lips pressed against his own and two small hands gripped his hair. Rick closed his eyes and the smoke gently wafted out of his nose and between the small gaps of their lips. The Blue Shirt Morty ended the kiss and looked dreamily up at him, licking his lips as if Storage Rick had the most delicious taste ever. "I doubt that my mouth is that tasty while I smoke." Rick commented, his eyes fixated on the pink tongue as it glided over the pretty, rosy lips. He remembered the complaints from some past lovers who weren't smokers and didn't like it when he kissed them after a cig, much less during smoking one. "There's nothing more delicious than the taste of my Daddy." Morty said seductively. Rick drew the boy into his arms, pulling him as tight to his body as possible. "Well then, how about letting daddy take care of you now? Mhm, baby?" he asked huskily. Their lips found each other again.
As promised amongst the Mortys, all three duos – plus the rest of team C-137 – met up in the morning just outside of the Morty Day Care to confront Storage Rick. Rick C-137, C-133 and P-78 didn't look really happy to be there, but obviously their Mortys had found a way to persuade them in joying them today for this initiative. After the last Morty trainer left, the small group approached the counter. Storage Rick only lifted one side of his eyebrow in question, having already noticed the little gathering and wondering what this was about now. Especially since it were three Mortys that lead the group while the Ricks stayed more in the background. "What do you want?" he asked in not exactly a friendly tone. "We have a few questions and this time we want honest answers." Morty C-137 said in what he hoped was an intimidating voice. Storage Rick's face didn't change. "Sure. I've got no reason to lie to you. What is it?" C-133 spoke up now. "We have been checking out all the Ricks that you had suggested might have something to do with the Morty kidnappings and illegal Morty brothel ring and we found out that they're all innocent." "So?" "S-so, you ha-have-haven't proven yo-you're innocence yet." A-22β6 spoke up now. "Excuse me? I've already said that I got nothing to do with this. And it's not like I know anything. I just made some random suggestions because those Ricks were weirdos and suspicious. I'm sorry that the Rick you're looking for was not among them, but it's certainly not me." Storage Rick defended himself. "If you would leave now, I got some working to do here." "Not so fast, Rick!" The first Rick – C-133 – finally spoke up. "It's not really that farfetched to think that you might have something to do with that." "Yeah, you have an entire Day Care full of Mortys. Who says that you're not handing some of those over to those brothels on the side." P-78 added. C-137 also had to comment. "Yeah, can you actually prove that you really got nothing to do with it and know of nothing? Because only someone who wants to hide something starts pointing with fingers at others and you were really quick to do so." A drop of sweat ran down the side of Storage Rick's face and his mouth and unibrow formed a straight line. "What the heck are you talking about? You noticed that we have really strict regulations in here? I can't just hand out Mortys to anyone. If someone wants to withdraw they have to have a ticket and also need to show an id. I mean just think about how much trouble I would get into if a Morty trainer shows up and wants to withdraw a Morty that I gave out to whoever you think I hand them to?" Rick C-137 noticed the other's nervousness and immediately latched onto it like a predator that detected fear in its victim. "Surely not all the Mortys, but I bet you have quite a few around that no one comes picking up anymore." "W-what?" "You can't tell me that Ricks leave their Mortys here and ALL of them come back to retrieve them again. We Ricks are assholes! As soon as a Rick grows bored of this shitty game, he'll just abandon all their caught Mortys because anything else would be just a hassle. So if you try to tell me that it doesn't happen or you don't know anything about that then you're just a liar and a pretty bad one at that!!" "W-well…" Storage Rick had to swallow because his throat felt entirely to dry and he cursed that he was stuttering so badly all of a sudden. He never had that problem before. "Yeah, okay. We have a bunch of abandoned Mortys running around here. I mean, you can clearly see them." The Morty keeper mentioned with his hand inside the Day Care and to the area behind the electrical fence where Mortys were busy with whatever they were doing. "Still, doesn't give you the right to assume that I just sell them out or whatever." "Really? Then what do you with them?" Rick C-137 wasn't about let up. He actually had fun with this verbal fight and trying to corner the other who was clearly trying to hide something. "Surely those Mortys aren't the only abandoned ones. Where is the rest of them?" "The information where we store the Mortys is confidential." The reply shot out of Storage Rick as if he was trained to answer that by his employer – which he probably was. It didn't deter the Rogue Rick. "Say, this is a really small building. I have trouble believing that you can keep all of those stored Mortys here and the ones that no one comes to pick up anymore. You sure you don't hand some of them out to get some space in there?" "Yeah, even if we don't have any proof now, are you sure that we won't stumble over something if we dig around in regards to those Mortys?" Morty C-137 leaned cockily on the counter, feeling confidence from also noting how much his grandfather had cornered the other Rick. Storage Rick looked unnerved at the bratty Morty before he finally seemed to give in. They had fucking cornered him on this one! As if he hadn't already had enough trouble with rumors coursing around because he had messed up one time and handed out a Morty whose Rick actually did come back to retrieve him again. Of course, he had tried to swipe that one under the rug, explaining it away as a misunderstanding. As an error in the computer system or something like that. He had consoled the Rick with some bribe money, which the greedy bastard readily accepted. And after that, he deflected anyone who was questioning the safety of this place because unfortunately, once rumors came to exist on the Citadel, they had a tendency to last. However, if these Ricks and Mortys would get too nosy and snuck around, they really might end up blowing his cover – aside from that, he had no idea if they had good connections to the Citadel HQ and when those bureaucrats would start investigating, he would get into a shit ton of trouble. There was no way that it wouldn't be noticed that Storage Rick had forged some documents and they would see that Mortys weren't actually retrieved, yet missing from the Day Care anyways. While that wouldn't be too fatal to him, he would have some real trouble if they linked him together with that illegal brothel ring. And since these guys seemed to only be interested in those, they might leave him out of this whole bullshit if he just confessed now… Sure, he was going to be in trouble either way now. And that didn't come entirely unexpected. He had a good run, but realistically speaking, this whole thing was bound to blow up eventually. And maybe, if he played nice now, he would get away with a milder punishment. Probably try to make it look like he was only a victim in this, too, or something. Because honestly, he was! "Fine. Maybe I do sell some of those Mortys underneath the table." He finally admitted. "And do you sell them to some brothels, too." Morty C-133 also leaned on the counter now, fixing the other with a hard stare. The Rick sighed in defeat. "It-it's not unlikely that they end up there." "S-so you r-really d-do sell the M-Mortys t-to the brothels?" A-22β6 stuttered accusingly and also leaned a little bit closer. "Hey, it's not like I'm doing it for the money!" Storage Rick was immediately on the defense again. "You-you have no fucking idea what is going on here! The place is fucking overcrowded with abandoned Mortys and neither Morty Inc. nor the Council of Ricks are doing anything about it. And it's not only that! Believe it or not, but the Mortys that I hand over actually want it. They-they're coming on to me and I really don't wanna deal with those horny little asses. So if-if they want Rick cock so badly then what's the harm in sending them to the brothels? I'm just doing everyone a favor like this." The disapproving looks he received from the Mortys and their Ricks in front of him spoke otherwise. Of course, Storage Rick himself knew that what he did was wrong, but he just couldn't feel bad about it anymore. He continued. "You know, I'm not the real bad guy here. Do you wanna know who it is? It's the Ricks! All of the Ricks that decided that they grew bored of the Morty craze and then just dump them here with the false promise of eventually retrieving them again instead of just releasing them into the wild. No, they just leave their Mortys here who are waiting for their stupid Ricks to come back, which let's face it will never ever happen!" It was true! And who was the one who was always left to pick up the shambles of those abandoned and broken Mortys? It was always him – Rick S-124! No, in his opinion he had no reason to feel bad about himself because he was still by miles a better Rick than those who were visiting his Morty Day Care. "Well, it's neither for you nor for us to decide who the bad guy is, so chill out." Rick C-133 was trying to be rational even if it did make him receive disapproving looks from the three Mortys at the counter. "Just tell us about your contacts. We're not really interested in you. We want to know who the big boss behind this entire thing is." Storage Rick quickly glanced over to the tensed up Guard Rick that stood in front of the electrical fence. "Sorry, no can do." "Wait? What?!" Morty C-137 practically jumped at that answer. "You already confessed that you're shipping the Mortys off to the brothel, so why are you trying to hold that information back from us now?" Morty C-133 also couldn't believe what he had heard. "Surely you can't be willing to stick your neck out for them?" The Morty of the Rogue Rick continued still. "If you leave it at that, we will have to hand you over to the authorities who will just get the information out of you somehow. You can't really want that?" "Sorry, but I actually don't have any names or addresses. And even if I did, I won't squeal on anyone. Not my style." Storage Rick said as he slowly distanced himself from the counter and waved a Morty in a blue t-shirt over. "If you'll excuse me now, it's time for my break." "What!? Hey!!" The Mortys protested at the sudden retreat. "Morty, let it be." Rick C-137 said. "What are you saying, Rick?" Morty whirled around to face his grandfather, not believing that he was just giving up like that after they already got a confession out of the other. The Rogue Rick sighed and began to move while shaking his head. "As I said, Morty. Just. Give. It. A. Rest." He emphasized each word, hoping that Morty would catch on. However, the boy was too worked up to get it and angrily followed after his Rick who rounded the corner of the Day Care. The other Ricks and their Mortys wordlessly followed, Morty C-133 and Morty A-22β6 looking slightly confused but much calmer than their interdimensional counterpart did. "I-I-I just can't believe you, Rick!" the angry brunet bellowed loudly. "Just shut up for a minute, will you?" The scientist said calmly as he leaned against the wall. "What? No! I won't—" his grandson started, but was interrupted by Rick C-133. "Calm down again. If you keep being this obnoxious we will never get the information." "What?" The Morty quietened down as his anger was instantly replaced with confusion. "Well yeah, it would suck if he overheard me ratting him out. Already got my neck way to deep in the noose thanks to you." Morty turned to the source of the voice, only to see Storage Rick coming from the back of the Day Care, taking a drag from his freshly lit cigarette. He was so confused right now. Did that mean that the other was going to tell them now? Rick S-124 leaned against the wall and took another puff. "So, that Guard Rick is your contact person. Is that it?" Rick C-137 asked. The other nodded. "Yeah, I didn't lie when I said that I have no addresses and no names. I really have no direct contact to the brothels. Rick T-42 is the one who pays me and comes to pick up the Mortys. He'll dress up in civil and come pick up a batch this evening again." It was pretty simple actually. The "disguised" Guard Rick would act as if he wanted to make a withdrawal, handing him cash instead of the tickets in exchange. Then he would leave with his happy band of five Mortys as if he was just another trainer, pretending to go adventuring with them when in truth he carted them off to the brothels, however he continued to do that. Rick S-124 didn't really know anything further than that. Not that he actually needed to know. "So basically, someone of us just needs to stick around this evening and then follow him to wherever he brings those Mortys." C-133 concluded simply. "Exactly." Storage Rick breathed out with some smoke. "Are you really sure that he'll still come after you just confessed to us?" "Don't worry about that. I'll talk to him later and make sure that he will." "Well, guess that's that. Good job. C'mon, Morty." C-137 said as he was about to take his leave. "Not so fast, Rick." His grandson halted the other. "We still have to discuss who's going to stay behind and spy after the guy." "It's not going to be us 'cause we have stuff to do and places to be at." "I'm serious, Rick!" "So am I, Morty." "No, Rick. You-you're not taking this very seriously, Rick. Doesn't this whole sex trafficking thing that these Ricks have going on with Mortys bother you at all?" Morty stared accusingly at his grandfather. Now the scientist looked offended. "What kind of question is that? Of course, it does bother me. I mean, this whole thing is just really fucked up. You Mortys are still minors and on top of it, you're our grandsons and incest is just gross! Aside from that, I don't really get why they would run after Mortys. I mean, we're all Rick Sanchez, we can bed anyone that we want, so why chase after a stupid, pubescent teenager?" "Excuse me?!" his Morty asked back, a frown on his face. He was clearly offended by what his grandfather just said by making it sound like there was nothing desirable about a Morty. Sure, he didn't get lucky with Jessica or many other girls, but he also got to make out with a few pretty ones. "Well, I'm sorry, Morty, that you feel offended about that. You know, other kids would be happy if their grandpa told them that he has no desire to fuck them. Didn't know that you would have a problem with that. Is there anything you wanna tell me?" "What?! No, Rick! Is-it's just—you didn't need to phrase it like that, you know?" "What? I was stating facts. Honestly, I can't see the appeal." "Well, Mortys are said to be a pretty good lay, actually." P-78 butted in from the sideline. "They're also pretty good at giving head – supposedly naturals at it." Then he lifted his hands in a defensive motion, "It's not l-like I would know, it's just what I heard from other Ricks who're into that sort of thing." "Well, yeah. That's still no excuse to fuck your own grandson." C-137 replied back, remembering that the part about giving head was indeed true according to his own experience with that Rick Fan Morty. "I get you, man. I'm not into it either. Just saying." P-78 defended himself and couldn't help but glance at his own Morty, who gave him a look that he couldn't read. "Mortys are made for Ricks." Rick S-124 suddenly joined in on their conversation. He had already lit a second cig – or was that his third? "They're a perfect match to us—fucking compatible to us in every way, even to our sexual needs. The marriage between a Rick and Morty would be the only one that could actually work out and that was even admitted by Ricks who have already had more than one failed marriage behind them. Not that I would know since I've never been married to begin with." "Ah, just shut up about it, will you! This talk is going to make me vomit all over this shitty place." C-137 retorted angrily. "C'mon, Morty. Let's go. We still got stuff to do." Morty and the rest of the team began to trail behind their leader as they left. "We talk over the phone again." He shouted towards Morty C-133 and A-22β6, knowing that his grandfather wasn't willing to wait up for him any longer. They made their way silently towards the portal in the middle of the square. Before they arrived there, Morty spoke up again, albeit much quieter this time. "Do you actually think that it could be true, Rick? I mean about the match and marriage thing?" "Are you actually a Morty that hasn't been fucked by his Rick yet?" Mysterious Rick's words rang in his head again. "No need to look so surprised. Ricks and Mortys fucking with each other is actually a pretty common thing." 'Is it really such a common thing? Is it normal for Ricks and Mortys to fuck with each other? Is that as natural as a Rick usually having a Morty? Are we the odd ones out for not doing it…?' "Morty, let's stop talking about it! It's just disgusting!" "Yeah, I know…but do you think that there could be really a Rick and a Morty who could be a happily married couple? It's just so hard to imagine…" The brunet trailed off at the end of the sentence and looked like he tried very hard to picture it. 'Actually it's not that hard to imagine now that I know that it's probably a thing…' Rick abruptly halted, turned around and got down on one knee while grabbing Morty's shoulders. "Listen up, Morty. Ricks will make up whatever kind of bullshit they need as a fucking reason to excuse themselves away. So don't you worry your stupid little Morty head about the crap that you just heard. The Ricks who say that kind of shit just try to make that up as an excuse to be openly sick fucks. I mean, I'm pretty sick, too, not gonna lie about that, but not like this! You got that, Morty?" Morty nodded and it was a good enough response for Rick to let go of his grandson and continue on his way again.
AN: Okay, I have to admit that I was thinking really long and hard about who should be the last and fifth Morty on Rick's team. I was contemplating even giving him the One True Morty, but in the end, my decision fell on Judge Morty because for one, he's super cool (you need to watch the animation if you haven't yet) and secondly, he was the first really strong Morty that I got on my team when I was playing Pocket Mortys for the first time. He was really way stronger than anyone else in my team, so sorry for putting him on such a high pedestal here, but it's just my way of honoring him in good memory. And phew, 10k long chapter, but we're finally getting to the good parts – and the finale is right around the corner. So stay tuned for the last chapter next week! (And yes, I do feel bad for making Storage Rick turn from a decent to a bad guy. He's my favorite Rick and I never intended for that to happen when I wrote "Ricking the Routine"…)
