It's still accurate to how I feel about the characters...mostly. In the time since I made this post, I have since been converted to "Grunkle Stan is bi" and I'm now preaching the Good Word 🤟

Anyway with that now amended, here's some stuff!

I originally made the majority of the posts about where everyone is now back in 2022, when I intended to have the blog launched as part of the 10th anniversary of Gravity Falls airing.

Well clearly that didn't pan (🩷💛💙🍳) out but maybe it was so it could instead coincide with all the revelations from TBoB! Life is kinda a beautiful thing sometimes.

Anyway point being, I'll have to tweak the timeline a bit. Which is fine because I wanted Dippin Dots and Mabes to hold some jobs before college anyway so really my lack of updating is just an excuse for this. That's the major point I could think of but if I didn't properly consider others please sound off 📣 (yes I'm a cringe emoji user AND I'M PROUD)

Soos and Melody are still attempting to conceive because they want at least one bio child if they can but they're working on adoption.

Many assume Gus Burnside to be missing or worse dead. But maybe... he's still out there somewhere...with his physical body fulfilling a deal. But y'know! No one can say for certain!

To be completely honest I'm still figuring out my interpretation of Bill's backstory. Sorry about that.

Though the reason the Axolotl has contacted our dimension to begin with has to do with his concern...about a certain someone. And who better to give a helping hand than the fandom and the Zodiac?

Since Stan taught Wendy how to hot wire vehicles and whatnot, they one day found a fairly intact Harley motorcycle in the dump. They fix it up together and Stan declares it hers. This is where her Harley previously mentioned in other posts comes from.

When did this happen? I've always assumed the Stans come back to land from time to time, including some summers. So likely during summer but a holiday could work too!

Mabel loves being a passenger. Dipper not so much unless he clings tight. Wendy installs a seat back at some point and this helps ease his anxiety. A little. He likes seeing the scenery though so he'll bare through it if asked to ride. Not to mention he cares for Wendy and thus doesn't want to deny her sharing her joy.

Robbie probably figured out he wanted to be an anime artist while doodling in college classes he wasn't paying attention to. Either he was in generals or some other degree at this point. He only drew in private during high school.

Pacifica during her high school/diner years thought she like liked Dipper. And well, she was Dipper's rebound crush so at around 15 or so they dated for a while. Pacifica however eventually realizes she's actually a lesbian and was misinterpreting her care for Dippin Dots, as well as thinking she only had so many options initially. Dipper realizes it was to cope with Wendy.

Therefore they cut off romantic ties on good terms and continue to be good friends.

(I have nothing against Dipcifica, it's cute. I'm just personally a Mabcifica person and enjoy my lesbian Pacifica hc)

In their early college years Mabel and Pacifica become girlfriends, LET'S GOOOOOO

Candy and Dipper have began to catch each other's eyes... they've healed from the events of Roadside Attraction in the years since and now they can have a healthier relationship in several ways. I WILL DIE FOR THIS SHIP OKAY

Fiddleford and Ford are sweet old man boyfriends. Though romance baffles Ford it makes enough sense with Fiddleford.

Stan is Stan. Though maybe all of his family coming out awakes something in him... something new to explore about himself...

Past Billford will likely be discussed at some point, though they haven't been a thing for decades and it was toxic to begin with.

Grenda and Marius are of course married ❤️ Candy, Mabel, and Pacifica were her bridesmaids. Mabel and Candy were piling over each other trying to get the bouquet, though Wendy catches it. Uninterested in marriage she throws it back out and reflexively Dipper catches it. After confused for a solid moment he tosses it and finally Pacifica then catches it.

The Pines Twins revisit Gravity Falls every summer until their high school graduation. Well *maybe* they go one more after graduation but then they have job schedules to contend with.

One of those summers (probably when the Mystery Twins are 15) their parents surprise them with a visit! But then they start to question everything because y'know. Weird town.

Eventually the truth comes out about everything, and they better understand their kids.

It wasn't the easiest summer but an important one.

They let their children return because they know how dearly they love their time there, albeit with ground rules established.

As for their jobs, Mabel was a barista and Dipper restocked shelves at a grocery store.

Dipper now has come to care for his birth name and birthmark. He still likes going by Dipper but he insists that only those close with him use the name. The only reason he still wears bangs is that his hairstyle is just comfortable and familiar. This also keeps his birthmark special as only some get to see it (in full).

Mabel still loves knitting and sweaters, but she's experimented a lot with fashion throughout the years. She now has more variety in her wardrobe than sweaters and skirts.

The twins live in dorms with a couple roommates and return back to their childhood home during holidays and summer. They intend to live in Gravity Falls once they get all their education/credentials.

Waddles is an old man but still kickin'. The parents were initially upset with his presence but were convinced by Stan to begrudgingly keep him. They grew to care for the piggy as well.

The family cat (Sniffles) has since passed :(

They have a dog (Honey) now though! She was a puppy from a dog Dipper once dogsat. The owners didn't realize said dog was preggo. It was a whole thing. Anyway Mabel loves putting her in cute outfits that match Waddles, something she used to do with Sniffles.

Mabel is a k-pop multistan (originating from Candy and Grenda introducing it to her) and absolutely loves drinking boba/jelly milk tea. Dipper likes the sound of k-pop music but isn't a fan the same way his sister is. He likes milk tea but the boba pearls themselves freak him the heck out.

So I see the reader drawing these like Wide Open Spaces kind of landscape type drawings - full on escapism compared to how trapped they feel. Free flying, breath taking, full of life and color.

Ace asks what he asks and they say something like they don’t really draw people, but they promise they’ll draw something with him in mind.

A day or two later they draw a beautiful cliff-side scene, deep green grass, wild flowers, wide open ocean beyond. There’s a monument of some kind, clean white stones, seated at the cliff. One large, one smaller.

It’s not what Ace expects, but there’s something unsettling and beautiful about it. He decides he likes it, you drew it for him after all.

After Marineford, Marco stands before the graves for Pops and Ace, eyes wide. Shanks and his crew had made the grave markers, and they’d never met you. But it’s just like your drawing, the one Ace asked for and shared proudly all that time ago.

Art Paralysis

Something that I just HAD to get out while in a horrific art block for months. I was advised to people I vented to to just do more expressive work rather than just sit and overthink more technical and concrete work. Just... getting something out is SO MUCH better than doing nothing and letting everything rot.

I was inspired by Abstract Expressionism and Dadaism, which are two art movements I learned in my Modern Art History class. It inspired me to just have at it and not pay too much mind to the absurd or imperfect.

Speaking of that class, I HATE the hour-long pre-recorded lectures. The content is important and there isn't one boring moment of it, but I just hate sitting through them. She knows how much of the lecture you watch, and can tell if you skipped them before doing your written participation assignment. I've learned to cope with them by just doodling away at random stuff.

The way I drew my fursona Silver may look familiar, I just went ahead and drew her in the Bojack art style, basing her on this screenshot. For me, the scene that this shot if part of absolutely destroyed me 💀

I'm... admittedly not sure if I feel entirely better after posting this at the moment, actually. It does feel nice to have something done and posted after a while.

The first one is a Jellyfish-based quirk named whose hero name is Jellia. She was my main OC around the time I introduced myself as one of your anon hence the anon tag. Her hair can take shapes into any jellyfishes she's ingested in the past (I fr think she'd vibe with Suneater and Fat Gum) and inherit their attributes and she's sort of buoyant in air and she kisses the floor that Gang Orca walks on. If there are no more Gang Orca fans in this world it's because she's dead. Originally made her to have the same age range with Hawks but now she's in the same age range with the students but has no pairing considering she's a child and I think it fits her jellyfish motif to be ace. She's got unresolved mommy issues. Like. How can she resolve it when her mum is dead? Also her maternal grandad hates her and compares her a lot to her dead mum lol.

BUT my now main OC is Miss Chief who I literally based all my c.ai RPs on is Miss Chief who has a Kitsune XI quirk (she's the most traumatised amongst my BNHA OCs because her entire family lineage is built upon quirk marriages 💀 she's the biggest Endeavor anti only 4th to Dabi, Natsuo and Shoto. She's not related to the Todoroki's but she'd fit right in). Literally a government dog (don't call her that tho she's not a dog :( she's a fox meant to be free in the wilderness (ok dog)). Trained in the HPSC with Hawks as a teenager so you can imagine why she's extra spicy in the head. My thought process of developing her is literally "Jellyfishes don't go into heat/rut cycles :( ik Hawks' quirk is not actually avian based BUT I gotta cover all bases and make her compatible with fanon Hawks too!!!" and so Miss Chief was born. Dug around my brain and remembered I had a nine-tailed fox OC once and was like !!! Oh. Yes. Anyway, she's crazy but she's best friends with Hawks so I feel like she has every right to be

Last one is just. ✨Me✨. It was a coping mechanism I was reaching a point in my course where I'm trying to study and understand pharmacokinetics and going like "damn why am I here just to suffer" so I made an OC whose quirk amplifies the pharmacokinetics of a person when she smacks her DNA into them. Think of it Stain does it. She's the least problematic since she's Recovery Girl's granddaughter. Her only problem is that she's fucking socially awkward around Hawks because she has the biggest fattest crush on him but cannot act upon it because he was her patient 💀. She met Hawks in the hospital while he was recovering and he was complaining about how his pain medications haven't kicked in yet and she just stares at him blankly, licked her palm and gave him a SMACK and was like "ok my job here is done" and he's just there like why did you smack me tf "unlike my grandma I don't kiss patients bye" and scuttles off and had to beg her manager to send her off for an early break and then put her somewhere else later. Literally drew and made lore about her in between me making notes from lectures LMAO

i think the most popular i liked was hansel and gretel as a kid,, i liked the idea of two siblings hanging out and getting along (nd working tg to defeat the witch).. i didnt have a good relationship w my sister growing up so i think thats why but i was also fascinated w the idea that such a popular kids story was so.. morbid? my grandma is christian so she raised me that way nd her telling me that story was interesting

the little prince was also a favorite!! my aunt and i would watch the show (theres a 2010s one i think?? its not that one) so its pretty nostalgic.. i also loved the book it was so pretty.. then the movie came out in 2015 and i was in loveee with the animation style, its so cool.. i really liked space and foxes when i was younger which definitely drew me to the story more, and as a little trans kid who didnt know it i always put myself into the shoes of little boys to cope ig?? and the little prince was definitely one of them!! i also related a lot to the little prince and looking back he had a lot of the traits some autistic ppl do which makes sense 😭😭😭 idk if this totally counts as a fairytale but i looked it up and it said yes soo

and then lastly would have to be little match girl,, its really fucking sad but thats why i like it sm.. its abt a little girl who is trying to sell matches during the winter but fails to, she doesnt go home as to not disappoint her father who she says will beat her for coming home empty handed, she eventually lights them to keep herself warm.. as shes lighting them she sees visions of food and warmth and her grandmother who died,, she asks her grandmother to take her with her because she is the only person who ever loved her, so she lights a bunch at once and her grandmother does just that... SORRY TO BE SO MORBID!! but shit dude that one never fails to make me cry or at the very least tear up 💀 i remember my aunt and i reading that one one day as well,, you can see a pattern w me liking things my aunt and i read/watched tg

I hope it's okay to ask but I've seen the phrase a bit, what does yume mean in the context of like, these are yume drawings, or I also saw Kieran yumes?

idk how to explain after waking up to this message hours ago but here's my thoughts:

"i drew so much yume drawings of kieran that i'm too embarrassed of myself to even see them, but at the same time i'm happy i get to draw these out!"

yume is the opposite of fujo/fudan, where instead of shipping two characters together (specifically the same gender), you ship one character with... well... whoever you want it to be LOL (typically it's just your oc, sona or self-insert.... 💀)

very much like fujo/fudan, however, is that yume is frowned upon by general public since it feeds to someone's delusion, hence it's often associated with cringe, but personally i turned it as my coping mechanism for my emotional needs, and it certainly helped me in maintaining my state of well-being for years now

so long as you don't go harass someone over having the same fav character as you, being yumejoshi/yumedanshi isn't that bad, and it certainly helps to contribute more to your emotional (or mental) well-being 👍👍👍

(also don't take this as professional advice, this is just my own personal experience.... 😭)

Alright, so...

💫The proper (maybe?) introduction time~💫

Meet Lia, part of the turtle family, the youngest one (one year younger than Mikey - currently 35 y.o.).

● Lia is part of the scientific group in the Resistance. Her occupation used to be biology and chemistry (mostly biology-related parts of it tbh). Unfortunately things changed when apocalypse started, and she began to help with medical work so medbay could cope with all of the survivors.

● She was a great help here in the beginning because of her interest in animals and mutants (and knowledge she had about their health)

● After some time when medbay wasn't so busy anymore and resource problems got far more crucial, Lia talked others into sending her on scouting missions. That scouting got longer, and longer, and longer, and finally turned into full-fledged rescue missions.

● Her main tactic to fight Krangs is deceiving and avoiding them. She would rather run from the fight as long as possible than try to eliminate the danger (she had to do a lot of exceptions though, and that tactic says nothing about Krang Hounds 💀)

● Lia is still able to fight! She's not a ninja, but a well-equipped medium/long distance fighter: her arsenal contains blaster, riffle (both energy-powered and made by Donnie) and explosive bombs (really strong ones, result of the collective work in lab)

●Lia's missions can take up to one year long due to their risky nature and caution applied because of it. The last one went terribly wrong though, and she went absent for literally 5 years

● Alongside rescue, Lia also fulfills such tasks as getting rare details from far away or researching samples or infected objects/living organisms/literally anything bio/chemistry related on her missions.

I also drew four outfits for her!

First is her home/training one. She wears it just while at the base, and amostly for training sessions. It's in pretty good condition because Lia rarely stays on the base for a long time. It was inspired by outfits of hamato clan, but doesn't have a symbol of it (because Lia is not Hamato)

Second is her lab coat, also for base only. She painted it with Mikey a very long time ago before invasion (she had to shorten it back when so she could wear it and don't get tangled). Now she is finally high enough to wear it full-length! Lia wears it while working in lab, sometimes even when it isn't necessary. This piece of clothing can motivate her to work or just lighten her mood.

Third is her travel coat! It's the most worn out one, because she literally spends months in it. Pretty long and warm, with a lot of POCKETS! and equipped with belt for her riffle and explosives and other necessary things.This is her third travel coat so far (she overgrew and wore out the first one, and the second got burned.)

The last is, em... A kind of really serious combat outfit? Lia herself doesn't know what it is for. Donnie made it for her after one accident, but she never put it on for long missions. It sure has some useful technical stuff in it, like a speaking device and some kind of camera for footage, but it is just too heavy for long jorneys... So Lia supposes it is for some special mission. And I suppose it may turn uncanon (uncanon in headcanon haha) one day because it looks too resource-consuming in apocalypse reality...

Book review: King of Ruins

I just finished this book and first of all, let me say that this book hurt me. It hurt me to my soul. I rarely read books that involved war exactly because I know how much the casualty and the suffering the characters would go through would pain me but something drew me to this book so I read it anyway. I don't know whether I regret that or not because my heart still hurts 😭

The ending when Jarael, Atalia and Koren get caught just break me because i just want them to be safe. If they're not safe at least I would rather them die rather than to suffer under that bastard prince. I'm playing for them to be fine in book two. Please be fine they're my babies 😭

I'm gonna rate the characters:

1) Jarael Sela, the father and the leader and DILF = 10000000000/10

Jarael, the man you are. He's literally the best father anyone could even hope for. This man love his children so much. He love and adore his wife, he love his kingdom and the people in it. He suffered before and he's so strong and tired but trying his best and I love him. The ending for him... My heart ache, I'm telling you. He deserve SO MUCH MORE. 😭😭

2) Shiloh Sela. Mother, wife, leader and MILF = 1000000/10

Words can't describe how strong this woman is after what she's been through. She's a great mother and a fierce woman and I have mad respect for her. ♥️♥️ I'm so worry about her in the next book though. How much pain would she feel when she knew what was happening to her husband and children????? 😭😭

3) Epher Sela (my husband) = 💯/10

He has a severe oldest brother syndrome but in a good way because he's protective of his siblings and family, because he is wise and strong and feels so much responsibility on those big fine shoulders. He is definitely his father's son.

4) Koren Sela (I'm such a whore for him) = 💯💯/10

The second son with an impeccable sense of humour and charm, I will always love you. With all seriousness though, Koren uses humour as his coping mechanism (but he's genuinely so funny, every word that comes out of his mouth is gold). I was praying the whole time he went to the war: LORD. LET. MY. HUSBAND. COME. HOME. SAFE. My prayer was not answered.

5) Atalia Sela (I want her to step on me 🛐) = 10/10

I was icky with her first because the whole "she was one of the boys" irked me in general, but my baby bloomed. She slayed and served so hard and I want to give her the biggest hug ever. She can talk and act all macho and tough as she wants but I know what you are, Atalia! She was just a scared little girl in the end who faced war for the first time, who sought comfort from her father and cried at the first man she was forced to kill. But no matter how terrified she was, she would die fighting for her family and kingdom. Truly a lioness.

6) Ofeer Sela (bitch in denial) = 0/10

Since the first time we met her I already want to bash her head against a damn wall. GIRL 👏🏻YOU 👏🏻ARE👏🏻 SO 👏🏻BLIND👏🏻 AND👏🏻 UNGRATEFUL👏🏻. I understand if she doesn't feel like she belongs in her family or felt like her father doesn't love her as much as he loves the others since she was a bastard but why is girly hating on her family so much???? Her mother and father who literally do nothing but love her?? And not shy to show it??? Her siblings whose never act as if she was anything but family??? Even if her siblings did bully her a little (but literally it was all siblings teasing, like messing with her hair) it was because they reacted with the way YOU treated THEM. You called your youngest sister a weepy bitch because she was upset about her dying dog and basically hoped that she'd die 💀💀.

She is her family's biggest hater for no reason at all. She was so desperate to have a nice life that she abandoned her family and wished the worst on them and when that actually happened she suddenly grew a conscience.

It was nice to see that she actually cared about her family but by that time it was too late. I can see her redemption arc but it needs to be big for me to actually like her after everything.

7) Maya Sela (sweet summer child) = 7/10

The baby of the family. We don't see much of her in this book because she's too young and doesn't play much role in this war. But I can see the potential of her growing into a more important role in the following books especially since she has a strong ability that may be their salvation. She just needs to learn to control them. But personality wise she's really a sweet innocent girl and I can feel her youth through the pages.

Can I just say I love the Sela family so much. Their dynamic and love for each other is so precious please let them be fine. They need to be a family again after this and see each other and tease each other and just BE HAPPY AGAIN. 😭😭

"Koren always thought this one was his." She hefted the toy. "I'd get so angry, twist his arm, and steal it from him. I made him cry, even though he's two years older."

She blinked tears from her eyes. "I'm so sorry I did that. I don't know why I did it. I wish I could go back now, could give Koren the toy, tell him it's his soldier. I'm so scared I'll never see the boys again, never see Ofeer and Maya and Mother. I just want to go back to those old days. When we were happy."

For Ofeer, broken, haunted, pained, still seeking light in her world of darkness. For Maya, sweetest child, innocent yet stronger than she knew. For a brother buried under the tree, who had shone his light for but a day, whose memory would always be with him.

There they are. The people I hate. The man who never loved me like he loved his true children. The siblings who always looked down at me. The people I love. The people who love me.

"Brother, when I was very young, I remember thinking you were so old, so strong. You're only two years older, but I thought you were more like Father than me and the girls. A righteous, wise man. I looked up to you so much. You were my hero." Koren sighed. "I didn't realize what a complete and utter twat you are."

Epher rolled his eyes. "Yes, you certainly looked up to me when you and Atalia kept sneaking into the bathhouse when I was washing."

i really agree with you about his leg being more than just a leg. he relies on his legs for sports ofc and sports was something Finny incredibly loved with all his life. but after that tree incident, all of his life dreams and hopes disappeared.

one of my favorite quotes of the book is when Gene compares Finny’s cast leg to an anchor he has to drag with every step he takes. like a heavy chained ball strapped to his leg.

okay now that i’m rereading parts of the book, there are so many instances that make this co-dependent relationship really evident. And these quotes are just for Finny alone 😭😭 . Imagine how many more there are for Gene. Gene and Finny rely and complete each other but like in a really bad way 💀💀 (but ig could also be seen in a good way too if you think it like a opposite attracts kind of thing)

It’s just how Finny copes with his broken leg. He knows he’s stuck with it and he knows that he’s practically nothing and cannot do anything. and him not being able enlist further enforces this cruel reality

Wanted to reupload this as well, as a testiment to my artistic improvement. I used to be so proud of the 2019 one, but now I see many mistakes. But that is okay, because I improved.

I drew the 2017 one on my lenovo yoga laptop at university. The laptop struggled with photoshop a lot so I used Medibang Paint PRO, but I had issues with the lines getting laggy and fuzzy. Overall it was very frustrating to make art on that laptop, and had I known then that Ipads were good for art, I would have gotten that instead 😞

The 2019 one was drawn to commemorate DA day. I had this idea that Michel and my inquisitor become friends and that friendship will kind of help her cope after Soals dumps her at the end of Trespasser 💀

Like even down to the no. of times tvd pitted elena against caroline when it came to men, vamp powers, and even friendships (bonnie)! I think S4 was one of the most obvious examples of it bc of the no. of comparisons they drew b/w Elena struggling to cope w vampirism and Caroline adapting to it much better than her & OMG that moment when Elena had her humanity off and picked a fight with Caroline and got her ass beaten, all while the two of them took turns slut-shaming & being downright hostile to each other throughout S4 my god what a mess... The best way to notice the difference b/w the show's framing of Caroline vs Elena is to pay attention to how S4 humanityoff!Elena did bitchy things & INSTANTLY got put in her place for it vs S6 humanityoff!Caroline did horrific things too but the characters AROUND her got punished for it more than her.

Even the core ethos of the show changed when the self-insert shifted from elena to caroline! Notice how tvd's core message had always been "humanity > vampirism" in S1 back when Elena was the self-insert, which is why the show's "morally good" vampires e.g. stefan envied & admired her humanity while the "morally bad" vampires e.g. damon, isobel, katherine preferred vampirism to being human, which was framed as less noble of them. Jump to S3-4 & slowly that worldview starts changing along w the show's preference for Care over Elena. Suddenly, we have characters like Damon becoming "good/noble" yet still preferring vampirism to humanity, while characters like Rebekah & Silas are framed as "bad" but now hungering for humanity/the Cure to vampirism, which is the total opposite of tvd's S1-2 ethos.

By S3-4, the show's original stance^^ on "Humanity vs Vampirism" began shifting & was no longer framed as "Honor/Morality vs Lack of Morals," but rather framed as "the Boring Choice vs the Cool Choice." So characters like stefan & elena are now considered "boring" rather than "noble" for favoring humanity over vampirism by S4 (hell, in Stefan's case, the show even frames him as WRONG/BAD now for wanting to help elena turn human again...... which is what she'd consistently wanted for all of S1-3 until randomly changing her mind in S4!! No wonder stef wanted to help her bruh!?). Meanwhile, Caroline is framed as an aspirational girlboss for preferring vampirism over humanity in S4-6 (while fandom views elena as a weak whiner for missing being human). Even Elena's "girlboss" move of feeding Katherine the Cure in 4x23, which would've been framed as a heavy "im gonna sacrifice my intense desire for humanity just to save us from katherine" moment in S2, instead got framed as a petty joke by S4-5 like "hehe lets give katherine some icky lame humanity" as if it's a DISEASE 💀 with like NO angst whatsoever about elena/stefan/whomever watching katherine waste her shot at humanity that should've been theirs!!

THAT big of a perspective & worldview shift w/i tvd's core messaging happened so abruptly all bc human Elena was no longer the gold standard self-insert, and got replaced by vampire Caroline! WILD. No wonder the series finale turning all the vamps human again (except Caroline) felt so hollow as a "happy ending" bc.. was it really?? In tvd S1-2, all the "good" vamps would've considered being human again a happy ending, but by S8 after tvd's shift to "humanity < vampirism"? Turning them human again felt more like a PUNISHMENT lmfaooo i mean why else was plague physically unable to do that to her self-insert Caroline, while sparing NO ONE else..?

What sucks is they rly could've handled that shift from humanity > vampirism to vampirism > humanity with more grace and compelling character arcs (for more ppl besides just caroline) if they wanted, but nuance is one of many things tvd lacked sighhh

You get kai and bonnie so much together and individually everything you say fits them in canon so well it's too bad the writers really fumbled with them because when kai showed up he was a breath of fresh air and the best part about him is he's all about bonnie that was new and realistic bonkai was their last shot at getting the vampire diaries interest back up again

Yes, it really is such a shame the writers fumbled Bonkai bc it rly did seem like they had some great ideas there in the beginning, but the execution fell flat :( I feel like Kai was a breath of fresh air not just for us fans but also the cast & crew! U could rly feel their spark of new excitement for a dying show when kai showed up bc i think they all sensed that he was unique and different from the tired, recycled plotlines they'd had since S4.

Ian in particular seemed much more interested in his scenes when Kai was around (and much more lifeless when he wasn't) and Bonnie ofc was *given* much more interesting scenes when Kai was around, compared to prior seasons. Even Alaric & Jo, who started S6 as rick's new boring romance of the season, became relevant, layered and interesting bc of their links to Kai. Like rick loved to play the hero & act like damon was morally beneath him in S6 but his need to protect Jo from Kai brought out a selfish streak that made him go behind Jo & her fam's back to make shady deals w Damon & Kai as long as it kept Jo safe! Even Jo was revealed to be quite crafty considering her backstory of how she tricked & betrayed Kai in 1994, which made her much more interesting than her early role as rick's bland gf.

Even Liv & Luke were (im sorry) SO BORING in S5 but 1000x more interesting in S6 once their story got linked to Kai. His existence single-handedly linked so many disjointed characters & plotlines from previous seasons (like why'd they even bring Rick back after dying in S3? His relationship w Jo (and by extension, Kai) was the only thing that made him relevant for the rest of the goddamn show)! Even the Heretics were introduced to the show through KAI & the gemini/siphoner lore and fully lost steam as soon as Kai wasn't there to make 'em interesting!

As for Kai's links to Bonnie, ya i agree she rly was their last chance to make things interesting bc they'd already given Elena & Caroline "dark" romances that fans were too attached to to accept anything else (see: Delena being forced to stay together; Steroline forever being overshadowed in most fans' minds by Klaroline) so giving Elena & Caroline new pairings would've disappointed fans, whereas Bonnie was a blank slate they could've gone WILD with bc none of her canon pairings had strongly attached fans... yet they gave Elena & Caroline new romances anyway and scrapped Bon's romance with Kai :)))

That is what felt malicious. In S6 alone, they gave Elena who ALREADY HAD DAMON the new guy Liam, then gave Caroline the same guy Liam, Enzo (briefly) AND Stefan, whereas Bon *almost* got Kai & *fully* lost Jeremy in S6. ??? Any writer who paid half as much attention to her fans as Plague did (considering how much ott fan-service she wrote into tvd & how many twitter fights she got into w fans whose ships she disapproved of) HAD to have known her fans wouldn't accept Caroline/Enzo, Care/Stef, Care/Liam or Elena/Liam as much as they loved Care/Klaus & Elena/Damon. Yet she did it anyway bc she preferred LOSING FANS to giving Bonnie someone interesting!

She even planned Kai to be Bon's love interest in S6 bc she thought he wouldn't be popular w fans & instantly torpedoed that once she noticed fans' love for him bc, as I said before, Plague PAID ATTENTION to her fans' reactions. So fans having lukewarm feelings about Steroline was enough to get 'em married, but fans LIKING Kai was enough to get Bonkai axed. It's a common joke that Plague saw Caroline as her self-insert (neurotic, hyper-organized blonde control-freak) which is why she dated more men than even Elena. But I think a large chunk of tvd's white teen girl fans saw Care as a self-insert too (bc w each subsequent season, Caroline was increasingly written & designed that way, which is why fans turned on tvd's original self-insert, Elena, & worshipped Care instead).

Her "im never the one, im not perfect like elena" insecurities made her a blank canvas for (white) girls to see themselves in, which is why she wins Miss Mystic Falls, why she's a privileged Founding Fam member, why she gets to dress fancy & go to Mikaelson balls that have nothing to do w her, why she gets ALL the men, why she becomes the 1st vampire to be pregnant, why she gets to marry Stefan (then instantly lose him so she can go kiss Klaus in the spin-off), why she gets to be tvd's last vampire standing, why she repeatedly gets to have her cake and eat it too. By presenting Elena as "perfect/ideal" & Caroline as an "underdog," fans naturally sympathized more with Care's "struggle" (even tho she repeatedly got EVERYTHING!) Based on this, Plague refused to let ppl like Klaus date Bonnie (which would've made sense) but shoved him w Caroline (which didn't make narrative sense) bc that gave her & white fans the chance to see themselves in Care & feel like THEY were dating Klaus.

(Btw I wanna add that I actually do like & enjoy Caroline! This is a critique of the shadiness that went into *writing* Caroline, not a critique of Caroline herself)

Similarly, Kai was allowed to want Bonnie as long as fans didn't like him, but once he got popular, Plague killed Bonkai bc she believed that she & her (white) fans wouldn't be able to see themselves in Bonnie and feel like THEY were the ones dating Kai. But Kai was not Klaus, Stefan, Damon, Enzo or Kol. His character was CONCEIVED w Bonnie in mind to the point that erasing his obsession w her would make him not even feel like KAI anymore. And that wouldn't work bc fans wanted gucci kai, not walmart kai. Also, his general personality quirks were just not the type that would vibe w Caroline. Chris Wood said it himself, "Kai likes to be the one who talks, he doesn't like to listen, so I think Caroline might make him wanna snap her neck & move on" bc Caroline ALSO likes to talk. So writing him w Care would change Kai too much & writing him w Elena was not an option bc Delena was set in stone & Nina was leaving. So, how'd plague have her cake & eat it too? She refused to let Bon have Kai, and bc there was no other white girl who made sense for him, she kept Kai eternally single so white fans could eternally imagine themselves w him.

And uk what's the worst part? I don't believe all white fans would've necessarily struggled to see themselves in Bonnie if she'd dated Kai. I think Bonnie being the ACTUAL underdog struggler of the show made her very relatable to people, regardless of what your race is (esp bc tvd rarely addressed her race or centered any plotlines on it). I think Plague's own subconscious biases just made it impossible for her to fathom seeing herself in a PoC character, which is why she wrongly assumed all her majority white fans worked the same way & letting Bonkai happen would've disappointed them & made them stop watching. (But that being said, even if it was just a "business decision" to her... isn't it funny how disappointing masses of white klaroline fans didn't stop her from tossing Care at stef, enzo, whoever she wanted, but ONLY stopped her when it came to Bonnie's ships (bc she was looking for excuses to scrap 'em anyway)? Oh plagueee ur biases are showing, girlieee)
