Still thinking about this off and on and wondering if it's possible to make a deck building rhythm card game.

Love Live! has card collecting, and it's a fun mechanic. In the SIF games you draw cards at various levels of rarity, and when you get two of the same "unidolized" card, you can have one eat the other to become "idolized", meaning new art of the character in a cute outfit.

So the first thing you do is copy this idea, but because it's burlesque, character cards are now in THREE categories.

Candid, Glamour, and Pinup. Two of the same candid shot get the associated glamour shot, and two of the same glamour shots give you the character's associated pinup.

(Also for fun, instead of calling the rarities things like N for unvoiced characters and R, SR, SSR, and UR - INSTEAD the rarities are O for background characters and X, XX, and XXX. Because it makes me laugh.)

In SIF the gameplay is primarily just a rhythm game. You use cards to form teams of nine which are arranged into a formation of circles and tap the circles in time to the song.

This is already good enough. I feel like you could copy this gameplay directly and have a fun burlesque idol game or something.

Except I am terrible at rhythm games! And I like to imagine games I would really like to play. So what if we had, for instance, a player hand drawn randomly from our deck. You want to pick the card you'll play before the beat, but if you don't the game plays one at random. This way missing the beat isn't necessarily a complete loss - luck can save you.

Someone on youtube made a similar concept in a few days here. Without the gacha aspect, just a simple proof of concept that using rhythm to force quick choices in a card game can work. But in theory if you built a nice enough deck, you could AFK and still do all right.

(You can also do this in SIF with enough powerful cards - I just think a stronger focus on the deck building experience and slightly reduced focus on keeping time would help my poor dyspraxic ass enjoy this style of game).

Beyond that, you keep the same basic gameplay loop Love Live! and a thousand other games already have, where you bounce between the gameplay, the story mode, and the teambuilding / gacha. But instead of collecting a bunch of teenage girls who all have the same basic body type, you collect a diverse array of adults.

I would keep the tone fun and heartwarming and light, though. The appeal is escapism and feeling welcomed. Just because we're introducing some cheeky near-nudity doesn't change what we're going for. Like if I were making this game and had a team to help write original songs for our diverse set of voice artists to perform, I'd still want to keep the ethos of the lyrics always ultimately being happy, sexy, hopeful, etc.

The LL idol stats are Smile, Pure, and Cool - but I think for burlesque we'd want something more like Fun, Seduction, Respite, Spectacle, etc…idk. Stuff that emphasizes what makes burlesque the silly welcoming community it ideally should be.

But idk much about balancing card games. Maybe I'll trying playing a few more or see how I feel about it.

Further story thoughts: you have your lounge/performance space join a fictional website that is dedicated to this amateur communities of singing burlesque performers - right now my brain is calling this community the Cheeky Cabaret, but I could change my mind. Here people can have their troupes advertise, trade tips with each other, and maybe have Yelp like reviews. Not important. The important part is you're trying to make your troupe popular on the platform to bring in more people to your lounge/bar/whatever. High ranking troupes may get asked to compete in the Cheek Championships. This, like Love Live!, allows for a format where we can introduce entirely new casts every once in a while with the same basic premise.

Anyway that's that out of the front of my brain for the moment. I'm sure it'll stay squirreled back there in some form until I either die, come to hate it, or (least likely, esp given my resources and disabilities) actually get bothered enough by its presence to make something that comes nowhere near my internal vision or scope. Idk, I'm just shooting the shit, y'all.

Tsumugi; She takes alot of Inspiration from The type of fashion that Yukina is seen in, like, Roselia fashion is on point. But with a strict twist to them. The song in mind is 'Charles' (which was covered by Roselia)

Kaede; she's very Similar to Kirigiri, so I'm gonna make her Pink a more Scarlet shade. But the main inspiration here was actually Riko Sakurauchi, bc Piano Girls and that Fashion was very good, I have a certain card in mind from an event. I wanna keep the Sweater and Asthetic though.

Maki; this one need some Spunk, and I looked over at Moca for it, I know shocker. I wanted her constant gloominess to show through through lazy peacemaker Assassin's creed oc styles. Though alot of it comes from this card in particular, the Shorts in particular, I dunno why this one, it just came to mind

Himiko; Honestly, Ruby, Yoshiko and Hanamaru were the three characters i took inspo from, especially Ruby, I'm thinking of the card from the "Catch the Mischievous Wolf" event, lol. That unidolized card is my lifeblood lol. But I got this Card during Ruby and Umi's event fes and I love her.

Kirumi; Ako and Tomoe Udagawa were the two that came to mind, then I remembered once again that Yukina existed and bang, Goth maid with a tree like flourish to her. I dunno why the plant idea came along but I'm sticking with it. Also Yukina is a goddess.

Tenko; as I said, that Autumnal Dia card was my main inspo, though I did put Ayumu's hair bun on too, Militaristic look, lada lada. Also yeah since I already mentioned the Card, let me show you Pomu.

Angie; Honestly, I thought of asahina here.. lol, but I thought harder and then I thought of Nico and then I looked at myself and went, Black artist. Yepperonis. That's it, won't post my pics but I will show you Nico nico nii.

Sol; Honestly, I thought super hard about this and Honestly, I feel as if the Closest Inspo was Setsuna, bc they are pretty Similar. Also yeah, She gets a lot of BO2&3 inspo lol. Also yeah, She loves Rock Asthetic.

Idk much about LL but ☕️ + Rina please I played a bit and I love her so much

Oh my goodness Rina ... I love her so much shes my favorite Niji RIGHT behind Shioriko love her so bad . One of my favorite things about her is that they didn't completely remove the Rina-chan Board or suddenly make her good at facial expressions , because that's not how it works ! She's not suddenly "cured" from her issue with expression (or you could say her autism smiles) , she simply became more comfortable in her own skin . Rina didn't need to be fixed , her face is fine and so is her occasionally monotone voice , it's only *her* that was insecure , the issue wasn't her face , the issue was that she hated it .

Rina didn't get rid of her board because it's a source of comfort to her ! Even if in more of her recent cards it's not as present (her fes card , her unidolized Analog Heart card) , it's become ... A part of her kind of if that makes sense ? In conclusion Rina is perfect she does no wrong EVERRRRRR

I literally hate the new Maya card so so so much . I had the lowest expections and I was still disappointed . The costumes overall are just ... Not good and his hair looks better in theory but in the card its so so so bad .. The composition in Maya's unidolized is just Boring and really makes the card forgettable , and the green lighting in the idolized makes it look .. Kinda gross if that makes sense ?

Mod’s Favourite Cards from 2019

My ‘Favorite Cards’ of the year continues! This time i will include my thoughts and opinions on my choice of cards and their ranking!

Aqours SSR Cards ~Unidolized~

♕ 1st Dia: Just like with the unidolized ver, no other card wasn’t gonna take first place except for Little Devil Dia~♪ She just can’t be beaten that easily after all, being the one with the best cards :3 And i am a big fan of the little devil sets, they always tops it no matter what and Dia’s little ;P is too cute and mishiveous ♥

2nd Ruby: I had a really hard time choosing which Ruby card would be in 2nd place because i love these two so much but in the end Ruby’s Christmas Present SSR won. That card isntantly became my fave among the Ruby cards, it really emits the happy christmassy feelings that i love.

3rd Ruby: I generally really love this card for Ruby, while the bikini is cute i find the setting, her pose and how fun she seems to have to be the nail in the coffin for why i love it. 

4th Chika: Just as Ruby, Chika’s card also emits that christmassy and fun feeling. And having sucha cute alternative hairstyle and the xmas outfit that almost makes me jealous of it’s adorableness, Chika had to be in this ranking no matter what.

5th Yoshiko: Nothing can go wrong if you put Yoshiko some steampunk clothes, she does look really good in them, especially in these color combinations.

6th You: Generally i really like this card and You fit the setting and looks to have a good time.

current thoughts on marine umi: apparently she’s like one of the strongest cool URs so while the fact that she’s a healer sucks.... she’s Strong and Beautiful.... i was gonna save blue tickets for the update but that’s not coming for a while SO what i’ll do is tomorrow i’ll do a blue ticket scout after my pull for ruby... if i get a healer ur that i’m not attached to (highly unlikely) i’ll most likely buy her... I assume that the 3rd years are wearing graduating caps because, well, they’re 3rd years. But perhaps this means that they’re professors rather than just high school teachers?

Also! Did you notice that Kanan is holding a mathematics book in both her unidolized and idolized cards?

The unidolized version has a textbook titled “数学III”, and according to the JP Wikipedia article on it, the subject appears to be the Japanese equivalent of high school calculus. As of April 2012, that includes limits, derivatives, and integrals.

I looked up a video of the card’s side story just to make sure Kanan holding that book wasn’t just a fluke, and it looks like the story is about Kanan tutoring the player. She mentions that she used to help Chika with her homework as well, and was told by Chika that she seemed very teacher-like. Kanan then jokes about being called “Kanan-sensei” by the player, and when the player does so, she proceeds to get all embarrassed and stuff.

In other words…Kanan isn’t just a dumb jock you guys. She’s good enough at calculus to tutor others. SHE’S A MATH NERD.

I REPEAT, MATSUURA KANAN IS A MATH NERD!!!

Kanan’s card got me curious about the others, so I took a closer look at the cards to try to figure out what kind of teacher they were supposed to be.

Dia is a Japanese teacher:

The book title, “国語“, means “national language”. That’s the Japanese equivalent of English (as a subject) in English-speaking nations. I believe this includes literature as well. Her side story is titled “文武両道”, which is a Japanese idiom that describes being accomplished in both literary and military arts. It’s kinda like how samurai were known for being both warriors and scholars - to be a well-rounded person, you need to educate both your mind and your body.

You, on the other hand…

Her side story reveals that she’s a P.E. teacher (not sure if other countries call it this so just in case - that’s Physical Education, or in other words a gym teacher), as she loves to exercise. She notes that P.E. is in fact a form of studying, but reminds the player that it’s important to have fun as well. I personally found this extremely fascinating because in the very first Aqours niconama, Shukashuu decided to make You a P.E. teacher for an ad-lib corner. Funnily enough, in both the SIF version and the niconama version, You wants to make the viewer do high-diving (which is not a normal P.E. subject, haha)…

(Hugely unnecessary side note: That portion of the niconama is what made me really fall in love with Shukashuu because it really showcased how silly Shukashuu is…also really showed off her “yousoro” addiction back then :3c)

Moving on - Riko appears to be an art teacher:

It looks like her side story relates to having stage fright and how she would calm down during her past piano performances. Just like with You’s card, I was reminded a bit of her real-life counterpart - I believe Rikyako’s piano teacher did show up at the 1st Live performance (she’s in the backstage footage IIRC) to show support for the undoubtedly nervous Rikyako.

Finally, we have Hanamaru. Her side story doesn’t offer much help on what kind of teacher she’s supposed to be, because it’s mostly about why Maru loves the library so much. She reveals that she’s fond of reading because it allows you to explore other worlds and learn new things. Hanamaru thus asserts that her #1 teacher is books. We can, however, figure out Maru’s subject through her card and some guessing based on what we know about her:

It’s kinda hard to read the front cover of the book, but we can see the letters “Hi” on the spine. That leads me to conclude that Maru is a history teacher. This makes sense given her outfit - the pocket watches fit the theme - and Maru’s deep knowledge of history as seen in the 1st Live chibi dramas and other SIF side stories.

I’m looking forward to the other half of the set! If I had to guess what subjects the other half of Aqours would teach, I’d say:

Mari (likely the UR) = English teacher, for obvious reasons.

Yoshiko (likely the SSR) = Science teacher. Just a wild guess based on her bringing out her Yohane side and doing some wild shit for a chemistry lab or something.

Ruby = Home economics teacher, since Ruby’s talented at sewing.

Chika = I…honestly have no idea. She’s supposed to be “Bakachika” after all, so I have no clue what she’d be qualified to teach. Maybe a music teacher? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Haunted by Good Luck

It’s time.

It’s been a really long time since I’ve done one of these, but I’m happy to do one after so long~ ^^

Although I was actually spooked a bit by this one. I was honestly expecting to have a really hard time getting Shun, hence why I saved for months to ensure that I’d get him. But it seems like all that saving and worrying wasn’t really necessary...

I literally screamed, both in fright of my luck and in delight of getting him and Aoi on my first pull~

Shun! I thought you were going to be mean to me and make me spend 3750 jewels to catch you, or play some kind of trick on me. After all, you do like to toy with me. (Any of my previous gacha posts will make that pretty clear~ ^^;)

I’m just completely shocked by this, I wasn’t expecting it! But I’m definitely not complaining~! ^^ It’s such a beautiful card, I mean the lighting and the expressions, I just love them. And getting Aoi with Shun is an extra bonus~ What in the world is this luck?

I’m sorry this is so short! But honestly, I wasn’t quite expecting to get him on my first pull. This is a first for me~ (Well for tumblr posts anyways. There was the Procella Work Gacha, but I never made a post for that one~) Until the next Shun card comes around, I’ll be saving again~ See you guys soon~!

Hi, so I've been checking out quite a few more male idol series recently, after only checking out Uta No Prince Sama for a few years and, since you seem to know quite a few idol series (And very good tastes in seiyuus) I was wondering if you could give me any recommendations on any anime or games. A small thing based on the valentine’s day set because it’s so gorgeous and looking at their unidolized cards side by side is so aesthetically pleasing plus they are a good underrated ship......ok first time writing these two and Kanan like this I hope I did them justice.

The excitement lingered in the air all around the school yard today. It was to be expected considering it’s that time of the year again when most people’s sappy inner romantic awakens and take the chance to confess or just simply share sweets with those dear to them.

Riko was no different. She was one of those absolute hopeless romantics, the worst kind. The kind that indulged in all sorts of sappy movies and books imagining how it would feel to be in such a situation. And this year it was about time she makes a move of her own. She spent a good chunk of time until late in the night making her own chocolates. After all, homemade ones are better than a bought product from the store, right?

Just thinking about something so cheesy made her feel like a flustered mess. She got them all nicely wrapped up too in a cute red box with a little yellow bow too. At the first glance they could most certainly pass as a bought product. Making them and packing them up was all the easy part though, handing them over was where it starts to get tricky. Because once she approached the third years’ classroom and spotted the person she was looking for she immediately chickened out and ran off.

Alone in the music room, she buried her face in her own hands with the image she just saw still freshly burned into her mind. Kanan always looked beautiful, but there was something about the way she looked today that sent an arrow shooting through her poor fragile heart, with the curly ponytail and all. This was going to be a long day.

Throughout the day Riko was given plenty of opportunities to hand over her present thanks to hanging around Chika and You who are conveniently close enough to Kanan to seek her out during breaks. But just like at the start of the day, every time she’d step up she would immediately back out, leaving not only Kanan but two of her friends confused.

“I don’t see a problem in it.” That was Chika’s disappointing response when Riko came clean to the two about the situation, and gave the pouting pianist a smile that was at least somewhat sympathetic. “I mean… you know what Kanan-chan is like. I’m sure she’d be happy, so you shouldn’t be as afraid!”

“Valentine’s day chocolates, huh?” It was You who chimed in next, humming in thought as her chin rested on the desk the trio sat around.

“I agree with Chika-chan. If it’s anything like last year, receiving chocolates isn’t anything new to her.”

Riko’s gaze subconsciously lowered toward You’s open bag hanging off of her chair and noticed her own was filled with goods. Riko anxiously swallowed at the simple realization - You’s right. Like her friend here, Kanan was pretty popular with the girls. And while she knew You was giving encouraging advice Riko couldn’t help but to feel more nervous than before at the thought of having competition.

Though to be fair, a pair of first years also came up to Riko to give her sweets, so maybe there’s still some hope for her. The thought prompted a sheepish smile out of her, trying to grasp ever the smallest amount of confidence in this situation.

Thanks to a complete encouraging speech and few tips from both Chika and You, Riko finally decided she’ll carry out her mission after school. It was truly a blessing to have such wonderful supportive friends, especially since initially she was afraid how they’d react to her crushing on their childhood friend when she told them the truth a couple of weeks ago.

The final class ended and fidgety pianist made her waytowards the classroom she visited the same morning after the supportive duo gave her a final thumbs up. Much to her dismay she quickly learned Kanan was already gon;, luckily Mari was there to inform her she mentioned heading towards the locker room to pick up some of her belongings. In a hurry before her determination expires Riko then set her course towards there.

And as if fate got bored and decided to butt in, Riko happened to bump into Kanan.

“Ah, sorry! My bad, I should’ve been more careful.” Kanan chuckled sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck while Riko dismissed it with a wave of her hand. “What’s the rush? Looking for You-chan and Chika-chan?”

Riko shook her head in denial. “No, actually… I was looking for you.” She took notice of the confused yet curious gleam in the amethyst eyes - it wasn’t the first time Kanan looked at her this way today. “I’ve been wanting to talk to you all day.”

“I haven’t done anything to upset you, have I?”

“No, no!” Riko immediately protested much to Kanan’s relief, but the tone of older girl’s voice was still wary.

“Gosh, I’m glad! You looked kind of uncomfortable earlier today. I was thinking I might’ve done something wrong…”

“N-No, I was just…” At this point she gave up on attempting to use words and just went for it. Riko practically shoved the box of chocolates at the senior, bowing both out of proper manners and to use it as an excuse to hide her completely red face. After a moment that felt like eternity Kanan accepted the gift, and Riko finally looked up to search for whatever reaction she could find on Kanan’s softly flushed face.

“For me?” The genuine confusion indicated Kanan truly was oblivious just like Chika and You warned her. It was both relieving and annoying when Riko thought about how much time she spent stressing today over this whole thing. She should’ve known she’s just blowing it out of proportion.

“Riko-chan, you didn’t have to.”

“But I wanted to!” When Kanan smiled warmly at her she felt like another arrow shot through her heart and Riko had to avert her gaze. “Because I really appreciate your kindness, and all the hard work--”

Kanan’s brow arched, “Y’know, if you wanted to ask me out on a date, you could’ve just done so.”

Riko choked up before she could even say anything further. The bluntness threw her off more than that charming smile no girl in this school could resist. Now she really felt silly, she should’ve expected this outcome. It’s Kanan.

“That’s not--”

Still flushed and almost speechless, the pianist huffed in a pouty manner and looked away from the older girl who now had a blush on her cheeks that could match Riko’s own.

“... I was going to but you cut me off.”

It was Kanan’s turn to smile sheepishly, and she pulled the flustered underclassman into a side hug by wrapping an arm around her shoulder. At least she seemed sincerely apologetic that all of this was a little messy and not as romantic as Riko probably imagined.

“My bad… again. If that’s the case, I accept it. And these.” She waved the box of chocolates in her free hand. Riko finally felt a burden fall off of her chest.

“Oh, by the way,” Riko tilted her head when Kanan started mumbling, and felt a little taken aback by the way Kanan’s cheeks were red and the way she avoided eye contact. It was almost fascinating to see her like this. In total awe Riko was barely able to comprehend what Kanan was saying under her breath,

”For the record, the twintails really suit a cute girl like you.”

Same old translation-paraphrase mix as usual. Mostly translation this time though!

To everyone supporting Idolish Seven,

Thank you for your continuous support throughout 2017, a year full of new challenges that we couldn't have taken on without everyone.

We began releasing Part 3 of the story in-game, released singles and albums, and announced several new music videos underway. We were even able to present the path all of these idols have taken to everyone through the Idolish Seven Exhibit.

And so, 2018--

Both the anime and live are beginning to take shape. All of the staff members will be doing their best so that everyone will enjoy next year as well.

We are truly grateful for all of the support in 2017. As this 2017 reaches its end, we'd like to look back upon the year as well as announce our future directions for this project.

[About the Project as a Whole]

◆ About Part 3 We plan on releasing Chapter 18 of the story in January. Facing yourself, the importance of trust in your comrades, a new force rising to the top and throwing the idol world asunder, the unbreakable spirit and will to stand up to fight....

All of the various mindsets and expectations* will rise to prominence at the climax of the story. (T/N: omowaku can mean 'thought' or 'expectation/prediction/anticipation' so due to the lack of background context, I put both definitions in)

Once more... "Focus-- on the future and nothing more." Just like the feelings behind this phrase, please walk by these idols’ sides until the very end. (T/N: This whole bit is super vague! Also I forgot how I first tl'd that Part 3 catchphrase, or if I ever did it at all??? I feel like I have but my goldfish memory..........)

◆ About the Music Re:vale's new single 『NO DOUBT』 will be released on January 10th! The full versions of the songs are sure to surprise everyone, and we'd be very happy if you purchased the single. As we announced earlier today, we will also be releasing solo songs for each character on their birthday as part of our 『12 SONGS GIFT』 project! Please look forward to future announcements on this topic!

We also plan on releasing singles for the anime opening and ending themes, so please look forward to those releases as well.

◆ About the TV Anime "Idolish 7" (T/N: Stylized it as Crunchyroll does it since that's who's English subbing + simulcasting i7 this upcoming season!) On January 1st, we'll be broadcasting a special for Episodes 1+2 on TOKYO MX beginning 20:00 PM JST. This marks the start of the anime broadcast! Additionally, Episode 3 will be aired on TOKYO MX on the 7th, and be regularly broadcast from thereon out.

As for the anime opening, we'll be uploading it on YouTube around the time it airs on TV so everyone across the nation can enjoy it at the same time.

◆ About the Music Video Animations Next up in our Music Video Animation Series is IDOLiSH7's new music video, animated by MAPPA. This marks the 7th video in our series. ◆ About the Live At long last, we'll be holding our first live concert in 2018! We are still preparing the details for the next announcement, so please look forward to it!

◆ About the Comicalization+Novelization We have always wanted to expand on Re:vale's backstory ever since we began releasing Part 2 of the game story, beginning from the dawn of the band through their indies days. Thanks to Hakusensha, we've gotten our chance to tell their story through a three-part novel. We hope you are all enjoying 『Banri Ikkuu』's novelization, the first two chapters of which have been released online, as well as the comicalization, which began on December 9th. Please look forward to each of the stories told in 『Senko Fuma』 and 『Hyakusai Mukyuu』 as well! We would be very happy if you felt even a fragment of their feelings as you read these works.

(T/N: The Big Thing is that the number kanji from Banri, Yuki, and Momo's names are in the title of their parts. Banri gets his Whole Name which is kinda cool HAHA. [About the Game]

We staff members will be giving it our all in 2018 as well so everyone can enjoy the game. We have plenty of events in store for this upcoming year, and we hope you will enjoy the game alongside the anime!

[About Upcoming Game Adjustments and Features]

◆ About Recently Added Updates We have added a Waiting Room feature in our latest update. We hope this will alleviate any inconveniences caused by holding multiple copies of an unidolized card due to lacking the items to idolize them, even if just a little. (T/N: You can read more abt this function here! Kind of interesting to see what the intended use was bc I am storing basically everything not a true SSR w good potential stats in there HAHA)

◆ Events We kicked off our first Rabbit Hall event in celebration of Christmas! Upon release, we have come to realize some of the features are faulty and we are sorry for any inconveniences caused. We hope that everyone will enjoy the event until the next. In 2017, we had a large-scale story release event and collaboration events. Likewise, we hope to implement all sorts of events for everyone's enjoyment.

◆ New Features We are currently on Version 3.0 of the game. Regarding the play style, we are aware that the interface and design are lagging behind in some aspects and we are deeply sorry to everyone for the trouble it has caused. We will be focusing on making the game easier to understand and play from here on out in addition to implementing new features. Furthermore, we understand that there are very few opportunities to obtain items for UR idolization. We are currently in the process of creating an enjoyable way to obtain them through gameplay, so please look forward to future updates on this issue.
