ok so ive been watching the firefighter show bc i enjoy procedurals (up til i cant take the bad writing anymore) and like. i know fandom so i know why the Big Ship is what it is. i was looking forward to seeing what kind of dynamic they actually have in the show tho! thinking yknow theres gotta be Something to start off of right. and uh 1) its really not very satisfying (sort of be told theyre close rather than be shown why they are) 2) i find eddie so uninteresting. like by far the worst of the cast. idk if its the performance or the character writing but dear god

pairing: max verstappen x ofc!piastri
summary: oscar's older sister is a singer, who's taylor swift's opening act for the eras tour. she goes to a few races on her break. she meets max; who thinks about her every night now. much to oscar's annoyance.
author's note: this is my first time posting on tumblr, so still figuring stuff out. no use of y/n.

oscarpiastri: like i said, not a chance

ln1999: lando flirting with ivy on main?
Oscar groaned from where he was sitting next to his sister. She giggled as she typed away on her phone. He gave her his deadliest glare.
"Please stop flirting with Lando."
Ivy looked up from her phone. She locked in and then put in down in the seat next to her. "I can do whatever I want." Her phone made a beeping noise again, indicating another message coming through.
"Vee, seriously."
Ivy ignored him as she opened her phone again. She could barely contain her laughter as she watched the video on her phone. Hattie had just sent her the video she took of Oscar during the outro she did for her song Nonsense.
It's a thing she started on her previous tour. She usually tried to make them as dirty as possible, but with her family in the crowd the other night she tried to keep it as PG as possible.
Look, she tried okay?
Oscar appeared very uncomfortable throughout the whole video. The outro wasn't too bad, in Ivy's opinion: broke up cause the size was underwhelming. Tried to give him pointers, wasn't helping. Maybe I just need a boy from Melbourne.
"Delete that."
"Introduce me to Lando."
"No."

Ivy grinned as she entered the paddock alongside Lily and her mum. Oscar had instructed her to stay far, far away from any of the drivers.
She followed her mother towards the McLaren hospitality. Her mother seemed to be some kind of local celebrity here as she was greeted by the many people in orange- sorry papaya, shirts.
They soon found her sisters Hattie, Edie and Mae sat in a corner with their step-father, Chris. She greeted them all with hugs and kisses on the cheek.
Ivy settled next to Hattie as she looked around the hospitality. She opened her phone to scroll through Instagram to kill some time whilst she waited for Oscar to come and say hello.

ivysgarden: so do we think she's finally been introduced to lando?
oscarspastry: uhhh max in the likes again? hello???
oscpastry81: it's getting low key suspicious 🤨
oscarspastry: on a different note, love your username 😜
verstappennation: aaaaaah f1 and ivy piastri! my two worlds colliding
Ivy and Hattie giggled as they read through the many comments underneath the post on Instagram that informed the world of Ivy's F1 Paddock debut.
Oscar joined his family soon after. Ivy smiled at the man standing next to him. Dark, curly hair; tanned skin and a boyish grin on his lips. This could only be Lando Norris. Oscar made the introductions between the F1 driver and the singer.
"I love your album, it's on in the garage a lot to annoy good ol' Osc over here."
Ivy grinned as she looked at the flustered expression on her brother's face. Lando quickly put an arm around Ivy's shoulder and pulled her in close. "Maybe your next album could include a couple of songs about me."
"Right," Oscar clapped his hand as he broke the laughing duo up. "That's enough."
Ivy and Lando looked at each other, both of their faces red with laughter.

Ivy walked around the paddock on the Sunday after the race. Her family had gone back to the McLaren hosiptality to wait for Oscar to come back from his post race interviews. She opted to have a look around. She hadn't had the time yet.
He had just missed out on the podium. P4. Ivy was still immensly proud of him.
She stopped in her tracks to look around. She squinted her eyes, the orange papaya of McLaren catching her eye in the distance. As she turned around to walk back, she collided with something hard.
Someone. Someone's toned chest.
She looked up, "I'm sorry I-," her words got lost in mouth somewhere. Her green eyes were met with the most gorgeous blue eyes she'd ever seen.
"It's okay."
Ivy quickly took a step back. "I'm Ivy, O-,"
"Oscar's sister. I know, I like your music." The man shook her hand. "Max. Nice to meet you."

OMG SANCUARYYYSJDHH!!$) !!<3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My ranking so far 🤭:
1. DANGER - HOLY SHIT BRO SO FUCKING GOODNSJDN THE BASS? THE RAP? yummy yummy yummy my fav song ITS SO GROOVY. WHEN YEONJUN SAID TOMORROW BY TOGETHER AT THE START ?OMG MOANING. I love the part when, idk what they were saying but the melody in the part ‘something korean, so obsessed’ like I like how it’s a little minor and descends idk how to explain. txt are so good at r&b we love you beomgyu for being the main lyricist on this, he ate it up (the lyrics ‘deeper into me?’ What was…that beomgyu? 🤔🤔🧐…) also I love the little short backing vocal interjections in the pre chorus that ascend and descend they bless my ears
2. Over the moon - over the moon is so good! I love the little sparkles you can hear in the background at the start of the verses it’s so pretty, and I love the ethereal like intro, BEOMGYU STARTING AGAINSJDHD !, bass is good in this and I love the backing vocals they’re so heavenly and the harmonies make me float. Also I just love the lyrics to this song, they’re so pretty and so good for a love song like they’re actually so romantic but not in a cringe way WORD PAINTING TOO ! The over the moooonn over the starrrsss part is so pretty I love soobins falsetto. And also I love the call and response like parts with sookai and taegyu 😩😩 BUT ☹️! Icl I was slightly underwhelmed listening to it the first time, I think I hyped it up too much and the teaser kind of gave away the whole song 😭 it’s way too short 👎 I really wanted some new material, instrumental section maybe, a bridge but it’s lowkey just verse chorus, verse chorus, end. I think there was way more they could have done with this song bc it’s so good IF THEY ADDED JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE IT COULD HAVE BEEN AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE but even without i really love this song so much
3. Forty one winks- INCOMING !!🗣️ chill like r&b, I knew i would love this song !! Sounds like it would have been on the freeze album. This song is very fun and I will be listening to this all the time to make me happy it’s very feel good !! You can kind of hear this little sparkley like thing in the keys sometimes in the background like in over the moon and I love that. I love the adlibs for this song too !! Ooh and the strings in the outro !! Love that
4. Heaven- cute and fun!! I really loved this song more than I expected I would, I love the verses and melodies in the verses 😭😭
5. Resist - resist being this low seems criminal but every single song was too good tbh idk whether to put this is as 4 or 5 or 3 😭. I knew I was going to love this song but omg I didn’t expect the genre! After the beat kicks in it really changes but it’s toooo good I love the guitar chords in the verses at the start of every bar ? and the guitar in the intro and I love the high notes in this song. I love how txt do different styles and genres AND PULL IT OFF they make kpop so fun for me 😭😭😩 plus I just like the rhythms in this song
6. Higher than heaven— I really liked this song more than I expected bc icl I was not much of an early 2010s pop boy band fan back then but I love that txt did that they really suit it. I really love the melodies in the verses so much and even the chorus is fine for me. But I really don’t like when they sing HIGH. HIGH. HIGHHHHH !, that part really kinda annoys my brain sm like it’s kind of so jarring to me 😭😭 I’m sorry it hurts my ears a little but other than that THE SONG IS SO GOOD I LOVE EVERY OTHER PART BESIDES THAT 😭😭 THE BRIDGE WITH KAI AND TAEHYUN IS SO ETHEREAL TOO AND THE BACKING VOCALSSJJDHD!! it’s just that one part for me personally 😭😭

hi, in one of your garden post tags, you say you have mixed feelings about tallamy. would you be willing to go into that?
Ohhhh man I've been holding onto this great ask because I wanted to be able to pull receipts and really give a good response, but it keeps chewing on my brain, so let's bang something out.
Pretty much everyone in my Master Gardeners program, from the regular volunteers to some of the PhD-holding teachers, seems to think he's great. He's in my region, so honestly some of them have probably met or worked with him. On the other hand, when I read Nature's Best Hope, a few things itched my brain along the way and overall I was left underwhelmed. And I do know a prairie restorationist here on Tumblr (whom I won't tag so they don't have to get angry about bullshit) who really hates him, I think principally because he's so focused on small individual action? which won't really do much to save prairies, tbh.
For those who aren't familiar, Douglas Tallamy is a professor of entomology and wildlife ecology at University of Delaware. He wrote assorted scholarly stuff, but really came to wider attention with his books Bringing Nature Home and Nature's Best Hope, books written (more or less; more on that later) for the layman.
His central thesis is that, essentially, we (the US; this is all VERY US-centric) have built over and privatized so much of the land here that our ecosystems cannot survive without us shifting to deliberately using private land to build wildlife habitat. He suggests that nature preserves, no matter how large, will never be large enough if we don't support them on private land.
On the other hand, he brings together some encouraging data to suggest that even small, relatively isolated patches of native plants and habitat can contribute significantly to the welfare of more mobile species like insects and birds. The idea he's most famous for is the Homegrown National Park, a proposed network of public parks, home properties, and thoughtfully landscaped commercial properties that would, in theory, create large interconnected areas of habitat for native species, based on deliberate planting of native plants.
And I think that's great! I think that's a great premise. I have no problem with the basic ideas. Nor have I seen anyone criticize his actual research or its interpretations. Entomology, and insect interactions within the food web, seem to be his focus, and so far as I know his methods are pretty rigorous and his data not in question.
It was his attitude and his writing I didn't love. I think the problem stands out most strongly in contrast with, say, Robin Kimmerer's work and her book, Braiding Sweetgrass, which is essentially a series of autobiographical stories highlighting the positive ways in which humans can interact with their environment. Kimmerer is a member of the Potawatomi nation and herself a highly respected botanist, and she brings a very different indigenous perspective to her work, wherein humans are a part of nature and can be its partner. Tallamy's writing is constantly studded with his own guilt over human destruction of nature, and I think it harms both his writing and his attempt to appeal to a broader audience.
I don't have the time to find specific quotes, alas, but Tallamy straight-up talks about North American indigenous people as if they no longer exist, and also completely ignores the relationship they had with the land. It was extremely jarring to me as I read, and I'm shocked I'm not better able to find people talking about it online tbh. More than that, he virtually ignores that native peoples ever DID exist, referring to the North America that Europeans discovered as "untrammeled wilderness" (wildly untrue and embarrassingly dated from a scholarly point of view) and talks about westward expansion and the slaughter of the bison without once mentioning the indigenous peoples. He espouses a pretty troubling view of humans as locked in a millenia-old inherent struggle against nature that is just....eecccchhhhhh no please.
Then he turns right around and spends an entire chapter (very weirdly and awkwardly, I thought) fanboying over a succession of (mostly white male) ecologists over the last century. And though he doesn't say so, cumulatively the effect is to put him in this lineage of white male saviors who continuously expand our cultural idea of what it means to save the ecosystems around us. It's...iffy.
Beyond that, the central premise wasn't super new to me, which left me reading the book with more of an eye to presentation and writing, and that was a little all over the place. Besides being bogged down in his guilt, his prose was also hampered by a lack of clarity of purpose. Sometimes he seemed to be appealing to his fellow scholars, other times to homeowners and laypeople. The two audiences don't really need the same information, and I didn't think the passages pleading with scholars added much to the writing's strength as a general audiences book. Sometimes it even came off as...how do I say this nicely? A little uncomfortably desperate. I understand the desperation! But I think it negatively impacted the writing.
And lastly, I feel he wrote with a heavy focus on his own ecoregion, without ever acknowledging that he was doing so. This worked out for me, because we're in the same ecoregion and only a couple hours apart geographically, but I think it would have been very annoying for, say, someone in New Mexico, whom he was ostensibly also addressing, but with almost no attention to their actual ecological circumstances. I think writing for your own region is great! We need to do so! But doing so without acknowledging it just makes you look shortsighted.
All that said, I am glad I read Nature's Best Hope, and it did have a couple lessons for me that I've taken forward.
One, I really liked the idea that in the future, ownership of land will come with an expectation that you will care for that land in a way that supports its "ecosystem services". Those being things like cycling water, producing and maintaining fresh air, nutrient cycling, etc. That just like, say, recycling cans, there will be a cultural expectation that you don't landscape in a way that pollutes your area with insecticides or directs a lot of rainwater runoff into the road. Honestly, in my home state of Maryland, there are beginnings of that. Farmers are pretty strictly regulated with an eye to reducing pesticide and fertilizer runoff and soil erosion, because of concern for the health of the Chesapeake Bay. There are programs and incentives for solar power, riparian reforestation, and other ecological initiatives. So it doesn't seem impossible, and it does seem logical.
Two, I needed the reminder that in order to fully support insect life, and thus the species that depend on insects, we can't just provide pretty pollen plants. Those of us with the means to do so need to provide habitat for the entire life cycle, which means leaving leaves and dead flower stems over winter, providing rotting wood, keeping clean water available, etc. Again, because I live in the same environment as Tallamy, his specific suggestions were helpful.
So yeah...there it is. I'm sure much more could be said, but not by me, or at least not today. Tallamy. Kind of a mixed bag tbh.

before loki's fruit gets revealed (could be as soon as next chapter) do you have any theories for what it might be?
I have heard SO many theories for it at this point, that I'm sure no matter what it ends up being, there's at least one person out there who predicted it correctly.
I myself don't know which one I find most likely, I've heard good arguments for multiple theories! If I had to list the ideas I've seen brought up so far, it'd probably be:
Myhtical Zoans
-Fenrir, the wolf from norse mythology, whose children eat the sun, seems to be a common guess. I've been kinda against this since day one tbh. We JUST got a mythical wolf zoan with Yamato, not to mention now we have Cerberus as well. Not impossible though, just unlikely. Or at the very least underwhelming.
-Jörmungandr, the serpent from norse mythology. This one is more interesting, especially since a large serpent makes me think of Nola from Skypeia, whose kind was associated with the Sun God by the Shandians. Problem is, it's already associated with the Red Line in Elbaph's mythology and in One Piece symbology in general. Then again, sometimes, multiple things share the same symbols in this story, so it's an interesting thought that this could be the case here too. My only other problem with this, once again, it's kinda similar to Kaidou, although he was more of a long fish than a reptile or serpent.
-Human fruit, model Lunarian. Now THAT'S interesting! Perhaps... too interesting. I would genuinely love to see something like that, and he does have these curious wing tattoos, but once again, I wonder if that's a bit too much like the Seraphim AND King, which we just saw in the previous two arcs. It almost feels like an absurd fanservice option. A giant the size of Oars with a Lunarian fruit would explain how people came to think of him as a world-ender in terms of power though, that sounds terrifying. I do like this one a lot, but I don't know if it's likely.
Logias
-I see the idea of a Logia very often, especially in parallel to Hajrudin wanting the Flame Flame fruit. Most people have talked about "Nuclear / Mother-Flame Fruit" or even straight up a "Sun Sun Fruit", which are all the same concept anyway, I guess. This is a popular guess, and does make some sense, but I think it's too straightforward and direct for my tastes. When we have Ace, Sabo, Sakazuki and Oven, another fire/heat/flame power just sounds uninteresting to me. As always, it's not unlikely though. I think that, if this is it, I'd rather it be framed as being tied to the Mother Flame, rather than something more generic like "nuclear power" or "the sun" - why yes, there IS a small thematic difference. Either way, not a huge fan of this, but Oda could make it work I suppose.
-Some other Logia I have not thought or heard about could be possible as well. Can't think of what, though!
Paramecias
-OK I think here comes the silliest, but also my favorite guess. The Gum Gum fruit. Yeah this is the Tekking guess. The idea that Loki has the actual rubber paramecia, and that the people of Elbaph associate it with Nika due to the superficial similarity. Honestly this would be SO fun, and it's the Silly Choice and I like that. Not to mention the Luffy parallels. However, a few problems arise. The main one being Vegapunk saying there exists no such fruit in the records. He could easily just, not know about it though, but it's kind of an Occams Razor situation. Especially considering he'd been to Elbpah before and knows plenty about them. If the royal family had this fruit, he might have known about it. Nothing is impossible, though, so who knows! Another little issue is that the giants have seen Luffy's Nika form, so if they initially thought Loki had the Nika fruit due to the confusion, they'd have probably brought it up. Like "ooh maybe that's not what Loki has after all, this pipsqueek has it instead", idk. That might be nitpicking lol.
-Theres a bunch of other paramecias you could give him honestly, but I can't think of anything specific. Perhaps something around his newly revealed hammer and the way he wields it? No clue. This is the most strange and creative category, just look at Gunko's Arrow Fruit. Anything relating to weapons, or mass destruction or trickery and manipulation, all of these fit him thematically. Maybe even illusions? That might be too simple, considering the fruit has been described as legendary. It'd be hard to predict it, if it really is a paramecia.
That's all I have in mind for now! Honestly, I can see Oda throwing an insane curveball and have it be something completely unexpected that hasn't even been mentioned here. Only time will tell.

can you rank sm debuts from worst to best me and oomf were doing this but we had vastly different rankings and i’d love to know where u stand lol
LOVEEEEEE the question. thank you so much. for practical reasons i'm only doing group debuts from 2nd gen onwards because i feel like both sm and kpop at large were vastly different during 1st gen. so from WORST to best it goes:
riize get a guitar - i'm not kidding when i say they should be jailed for giving them this as their debut song. JAILED. fuck this disney ass song!!!
nct wish wish - i don't even know or care enough to listen to this song i just know it belongs here
nct dream chewing gum - boring. mid. and honestly creepy now that we know how weird min heejin is with minors
tvxq hug - i am a notorious ballad hater. this is a good and nice song and i can recognize that but this cannot go any higher than this in the ranking because we would be lying to ourselves
nct 127 fire truck - sm is so bold for making this their debut song. it kinda paid off. HANDS UP IF YOU FEELIN THE VIBE!!!!
hearts2hearts the chase - this is a fairly solid song. some might argue its underwhelming for a debut title track but the song is well constructed and the vocal arrangement is very good. problem is it lacks personality
red velvet happiness - the bridge is crazyyy but i'm ngl it carried this whole song tbh. this isn't really anything to write home about specially in terms of rv's insane discography
got the beat step back - yes this a debut song and it slaps. misogyny is okay sometimes!
super junior twins (knockout) - i already know some people are gonna wanna stone me for placing suju above tvxq but it's the truth. sorry this song is good and one of the first songs where sm developed the quintessential sm sound
f(x) la cha ta - it's a good song but imo their sound evolved so much more after this. like this is their least interesting title track by far so this is the fair ranking for it
superm jopping - sorry but name something half as impactful as this song in kpop in the past 5 years. i really don't care if you like it ironically or hate it earnestly the song is objectively good.
wayv take off - hashtag the #REAL WAYV DEBUT!!! this song is insaneeee it's so good. please let's bring back this sound for wayv
aespa black mamba - again i don't care if you disagree cause this is objectively correct. not a single debut song in this list so far perfectly captures the musical identity and vision of a group like black mamba. the production is crazy
exo mama - impact. brilliance. drama. creativity. boldness. innovation. boundary pushing. outstanding.
nct the 7th sense - AGAIN sm making a big gamble for a debut song and it paid off. there's not a single other song like this in kpop and the ones that sound like it just try to replicate it poorly
shinee replay - a classic. this song unites fandoms. everybody knows the words to it. definition of a generational HIT
snsd into the new world - hands down the single BEST debut not only in SM it might actually be the best debut in kpop PERIOD.

Natlan teaser feels so underwhelming to me tbh, not only are the characters white as a piece of paper, but the designs feel all over the place, maybe it's just me, but I don't really like the overall vibe of the designs so far have. The other nations have a very clear look and vibe to their designs, Just my opinion. Hopefully, the landscape compensates for it, Genshin never disappoints with their nation designs (Except with that one ugly and annoying fog island, but we don't talk about that one.)

10 more Disney hot takes/unpopular opinions (Part 4)
Tumblr media
Check out part 3 here.
Tumblr media
"I See the Light" is my least favorite Disney duet--I don't know why, but it isn't emotional or impactful to me like other duets. Perhaps it was due to not being emotionally invested in Flynn like I was supposed to be at this point, and his and Rapunzel's different personalities making them feel almost like father and daughter rather than love interests.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
2. Anna's "Frozen 2" look is very boring--It's wildly disappointing that they opted not to give her her double braids because they seemed too childish. This is only three years after the first film, and while I love seeing her hair down, I would've enjoyed her having her two braids as well when traveling. And don't get me started on her main outfit; the black look being chosen to show maturity/seriousness could've easily been a darker green or magenta to keep with her main look rather than going with black, especially since Kristoff's look is black (and also boring; it's just recoloring his look from part 1).
Tumblr media
3. The post-renaissance era is very disappointing--No seriously. I'd save "Fantasia 2000" and maybe "The Emperor's new Groove" and everything else can be erased.
Tumblr media
4. "Zootopia" is the best Disney movie of the 21st century so far--Given that I tend to appreciate Disney's musical films more and don't usually care for animal-centric films, this surprised me just as much as anyone else. However, the message, while not 100% transferible to human racism, was so impactful and emotional to me. I can only hope the sequel does it justice.
Tumblr media
5. Yokai is the best "modern" Disney villain of the revival era--To clarify, by "modern" I mean that he isn't written like classic Disney villains as only having "evil" as their only setting; his villainy has a meaning to it, serving as a cautionary tale to what the hero could become. TBH, I think it was better done than the "Know Who You Are" message with Moana and Te Fiti (see my other hot take post). Granted, I do think some of his sympathy was removed when he tried to kill his students, but the message and overall theme itself is very good to me.
Tumblr media
6. "Encanto" was good, but not great--Don't get me wrong, I loved most of the songs, and the animation was phenomenal as well as the message, but the film felt like it was overstuffed. With twelve family members, it was inevitable, but trying to give lessons with Luisa and Isabela along with giving Dolores a romantic arc felt underwhelming since they weren't major characters with Mirabel, who's main thing was feeling left out and isolated. If they wanted to incorporate other arcs, they'd have to be more included in the narrative, and you can still have Mirabel feel isolated; you can be around others and still feel like they don't get you or listen to you.
Tumblr media
7. Ariel's sisters should've had more relevance than just being plot-accurate--I never really thought about this until the live-action remake, but yeah. Ariel's six older sisters don't do anything and don't exist except for the fact that the source material said she was the youngest of several sisters (thus where we get the title from; I think the fairy tale only gave her five, though). While this is more of a modern Disney idea, I would've liked it if Ariel AND her sisters became human, and each of them grow closer to Ariel upon seeing why she likes the human world so much, and further highlight the anguish Triton feels at driving all his daughters away. That said, due to the amount of characters in the film, perhaps condense the six sisters into one to three of them, and they could still have their hair cut as their payment to Ursula. In fact, perhaps because of this trade, their time on land is shorter than Ariel's (but they don't belong to Ursula until the third day is up), allowing them to get King Triton and disrupt the wedding at the last minute.
Tumblr media
8. The Disney prince line should be more relevant--It baffles me greatly that this hit the backburner in contrast to the princesses. The unnamed prince Charmings could be given names and more fleshed out personalities, and their books/stories could be promoted just as much as the Disney princesses. There is other merchandise to be used besides dolls (even if that is the money maker).
Tumblr media
9. Disney needs to consider PG-13 animated films--Animation in the western world seems to be synonymous with family/young audiences, 3/4 times, while Japan has shown that animation has huge potential in the young adult market. I desperately hope that "The Boy and the Heron" being so acclaimed inspires Disney to be more PG-13--not just for the rating, but because the story benefits more from the mature content. Note: this is more for violence/scary imagery than innuendo or profanity.
Tumblr media
10. Disney should be more sparing when they hire celebrities for films expected to start a franchise--This is a personal opinion of mine, but while I don't think celebrities should be excluded from major motion animated films, I do think companies, particularly Disney, should use them carefully. These are for two reasons: if you hire a well-known voice actor, the character's voice may not sound as unique for a major property since the voice is somewhat ubiqitous thanks to the actor's work. Secondly, hiring a celebrity actor known for live-action productions, it may be hard to meet their schedule or salary desires when you want them to return for a short, sequel, and/or tv show. Not saying it happens every time, but I do have concerns about that, especially when I thought "Wish" was going to be something spectacular and show up more in Disney's merchandise.

Okay so I finished ZZZ patch 1.7 and I want to talk about it a little
(SPOILERS BELOW)
I actually got a couple of things right omg
Hugo DID use a code word to Lycaon to get him to follow the plan
Hugo did overhear Jack and Lycaon talking, and I think this pushed him to plan to assassinate his father by helping him sink into the part of him that he hated
Hugo was the one that sent the letter to the major. I highly suspected that Hugo has something to do with the Sacrifice Core ended up in the auction as well. It's all very theatrical and smelled of his shenanigans.
That Hugo would end up allying himself with the mayor. This is more half true since it's revealed he'd been in alliance with the mayor this whole time, but my suspicion was that he is more friendly with the mayor than he let on since I suspect this is how the game will have him be more involved in the future through Lycaon.
I talked about it in an earlier post, but I was a little annoyed that they walked back that he killed his father though not unexpected. However! I liked that they didn't walk back that he did plan for it and TRIED. I think it's very in character still for him to chicken out because clearly he does have a conscience but when he was younger, he was extremely conflicted and it took him a long time to deal with it. Also from what we know, I think it's also very belieavable that Hugo's father is so paranoid that the assassination plan would fail as well as Hartman being a vulture that would take advantage of the chaos to finish Hugo's father off. I also think Hugo couldn't let go of his fears for his father so the plan was doomed from the beginning. It still adds a layer that, yes, Hugo DID choose to do something that he ended up regretting that also ended up hurting his ex-boyfriend friend and wasn't just made to be "I didn't do anything wrong actually, I was perfectly good and righteous". So I can live with the walk back. I was more afraid that they'd take this layer of conflict away from him.
Also I didn't think I can love Hugo more but apparently yes I can. Me and Hugo with mother issues:
Tumblr media
The fact that he IMMEDIATELY knew it wasn't Lycaon though omg I need these two to kiss already. Lycaon clearly worries about Hugo so much I was losing my mind. Also THE BICKERING. It's so much more friendly now and also the little moments they have together. AGHHH. I love them so much, your honour.
The one real disappointment I have was the boss fight tbh it was very underwhelming compared to 1.6. It doesn't bother me THAT much. 1.6 is pretty peak even though I suspected that Lycaon was in on it and is a touch act to follow. It might be because Dina didn't really compel me? She reminded me too much of Twiggy and her designs is kinda like meh for me. Twiggy stole the show FAR more although I did like Vivian's backstory. Doesn't help that she uses the same animations as Twiggy. Dina comes off as a spoiled brat. I don't sympathise with her the same way I did Twiggy and this is coming from someone who tends to be weak when dads are involved.
This is a weird criticism because it's probably just me but having Robin be a stand in for dark Hugo kinda made me lose my mind a little. I have HUGE cute aggression with Bangboos so the tone shift in my brain was so real I just can't help it. Hugo's VA hard carried that whole segment though OMFG it was CRAZY. That whole scene can be like a whole episode long animation tbh I know why they did it as is, but there is enough material there to do a mindbending full episode of anime it's crazy.
All in all, I enjoyed the patch. Ending was a bit underwhelming, but otherwise I got what I wanted generally especially from a filler patch, too.

My Issues with the Season so Far
Tbh, a lot of the criticisms of the show don’t hold up and are super dumb but some are pretty valid..
- Tell me rn why Rhaenys is okay with her husband being a cheater and shows no anger? This has got to be one of the most anti feminist shows I’ve seen because none of the women show actual rage and anger, not even Alicent and Helaena after the boy’s death!!
- Rhaenyra saying she “can’t fault Arryk for not breaking his vow” DAMN!!! They can’t even let her be mad at the man who tried to KILL HER. Also he DID break his vow to uphold Rhaenyra as heir
- The show has fantastic characters, character dynamics, and an amazing idea of a plot (a Targ civil war!!) but the way they execute the plot is very very underwhelming. I was always glued to the seat in all the politics/scheming/war strategy scenes in GOT/ASOIAF but HOTD ain’t hitting the same way
- Some of the female characters are struggling to stand out and be distinct from each other- Alicent, Helaena, Mysaria are fantastic. Rhaenys, Rhaenyra, Baela and Rhaena are really struggling to feel different from each other. I feel like if they were in each other’s situations they would react the exact same way! Can’t say the same for putting Mysaria in Helaena’s position etc.
- Constantly acting like men are the only ones capable of violence, anger and war. While I acknowledge the time period and understand not showing anachronistic feminism, I still feel like I don’t understand whether the showrunners actually believe this? Or if they’re just saying that’s how the characters think. Because to believe women don’t have rage and anger, that means you don’t think they are human beings capable of the full range of emotion
Overall, while this season has mostly fantastic moments and amazing character arcs and everything, they have some serious glaring flaws. Even in GOT, the female characters like Sansa, Arya, Daenerys, Cersei, Margaery etc all were very unique, had their own goals and ambitions, but we don’t see that with HOTD.
The male characters in HOTD (down even to the council members) all are distinct and unique but main females like Baela and Rhaena after two seasons are still lacking substantial characterization?? I would say racism (and it very well could be) but frankly the same problem is there for Rhaenyra and Rhaenys too.
The politics and scheming scenes and the actual backdrop of the plot (Targaryen civil war) SHOULD be interesting, but why is it lacking so much? Where is the excitement, danger, tension and entertainment?

gonna gather my spoiler-free thoughts on HSR'S 3.0 patch on here now that I'm done with the main story...
Tumblr media
okay so... I think it was very good actually, but I do have some gripes with it. I'll write the positives and negatives:
🌸 Positives
Dan Heng accompanying us ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ I like March but she needed to step back for once. Other characters exist besides her.
I like the new characters so far. As always, that's one of the game's forte: the characters are likable, which is nice because Castorice in particular seemed too boring/dull at first (both in appearance and personality-wise) but she's growing on me. I like that Phainon is a lot livelier than Kevin, and Aglaea being so mysterious is interesting. Mydei was fun too, he reminded me of Knuckles lol. And Tribbie is just fine tbh.
I also appreciate that it's gonna be a slow ride. The characters are taking their time to appear, and knowing that we'll be in Amphoreus for the whole 3.X gives me so much hope that they'll actually develop things properly instead of the rush-fest that Penacony was. They apparently don't want to make the same mistake, so that's great.
Also Amphoreus is GORGEOUS, absolutely beautiful. And exploration is satisfying, there are a lot of things to do this time and it's so much bigger than the previous worlds! I love it, it looks amazing. To think that there's still a lot more to see... I can't wait, this place is gonna be huge and I'm here for it.
The new Path is very fun and Mem is really cute, once I get Aglaea using them is gonna be awesome. My Aglaea + RMC + Sunday + Gallagher are about to C-L-E-A-R.
And that's it maybe, the story so far I'd say it's on the 'neutral' side. Nothing crazy happened, honestly, so I have nothing to say about it. It was fine. Now on to the negatives:
🔥 Negatives
Okay so I mentioned I like the new Path, HOWEVER the way we get it is ridiculous. In the past it felt like we earned our change of Paths and they were pretty epic too. This time though? We got it... just because? Idk it felt so underwhelming, and you even get the Eidolons way too easily... Eh.
Aventurine's nerf. FUCK OFF. They even chose the worst time to do it too 'cause enemies hit harder now. Pieces of absolute shit.
The whole Gnaeus part was a slog, way too long with way too many gimmicks just for the sake of delaying our steps. I almost got burnout, it was like those terrible final dungeons in JRPGs, geez.
The Trailblazer's dialogue like MY GOD CAN YOU BE SERIOUS FOR A MOMENT. Usually I don't mind the silliness of our MC, but this time it was so annoying. I couldn't stand it anymore, they overdid it. It was not funny. At all. Shut up.
And I guess that's all for now, unless I'm forgetting something. We'll see how things develop.

okkkkkkk lemme be a lil baby for a moment here..
sometimes i get really self conscious abt new game bc of how slow of a start it has. like...idk. it doesnt feel very exciting to me either story-wise or visually if im being honest, and i feel like its kinda..lackluster??? i guess??? especially compared to all these other super duper cool fancomics i see
AND I KNOW YES i shouldnt compare myself to others' works and i really do try not to usually!! but im also like..stepping back and looking at how it holds up amongst all these other really cool ones, and it feels like to me it lacks a whole lot. theres not rly any action so far (i say so far bc there Is Some Later it just takes fucking forever to get there) and the scenery doesnt rly..change. bc scourge is Stuck In Bed. lol
at the same time all that is b/c i like to focus on character interactions and dynamics??? and thats what ive been giving! ive been focusing on the characters rather than the action. so i gotta be a little easier on myself tbh, new game (at least the..first one) isnt Meant to be an exciting action comic, its leaning more towards slice of life honestly and thats totally fine??
i guess im just self conscious abt it bc almost every other comic i see out there is both visually interesting and full of fun action. and i want that too, i really do. but i cant rly help that the majority of new game's first installment is just..scourge interacting with characters lol. in one singular space.
honestly i think what gets me is like..idk. the thought of like... if i werent the creator of new game, and i was reading it, id be a little. underwhelmed? i guess? at the comic's content, compared to other comics ive seen. and i guess that makes me a lil sad. coulda been a fic at that point. but ive committed to a comic bc i Love visual storytelling and there are some scenes i really really wanted to be visually illustrated. so i gotta deal w it i guess
anyway thanks for listening to my self-criticism lollll i just had to vent a little on my lil blog

You know,as someone who played Genshin, hsr, zzz and hi3 (not at the same time , I dropped hi3 after a while and I might drop zzz cuz combat wise it's also a hack n slash) ,maybe I'm biased but it feels like Genshin gets the worst ideas ,Like if you put the aspects of each game on a spectrum I feel like most of Genshin's aspects end up on the lower half.
It kinda makes me sad because zzz has some cool stuff, hsr too, HI3 has the excuse of being hoyos golden child so to say I guess, regardless of how well it does financially that game is still a big deal you know, but Genshin feels like it's being weirdly left out of all this cool stuff.
Character kits? Been getting worse tbh, animation probably not,I don't think Genshin's animation has ever went anywhere but up, story wise it's fine, and design wise it depends on the character I guess.
Idk ,maybe I'm talking nonsense but it feels like somewhere a few higher ups decided that Genshin would some sort of scapegoat somehow, but then again why would they do that when they could just as well just rake in the money from all of thier IPs, my thought process feels a bit conspiracy theory like
I'm probably just making a big deal out of nothing though.
i agree that genshin has been getting the short end of the stick in v5. rant incoming but i genuinely can't believe how bad it has become lmao
natlan as a nation is... extremely underwhelming. the archon quest has its moments (the war bit was actually very intense imo), but the characters lack depth for the most part, or at least it's explored in different parts that are mostly hidden.
mavuika is the worst archon by a long shot, because she's not flawed like the rest of them. it still feels uncanny that capitano agreed with her plan in a matter of minutes. she feels very... mary sue-esque? like everyone even outside of her nation blindly trusts her, even the traveler. it negates the traveler's character development from nations like fontaine and inazuma, and makes mavuika boring as hell.
mualani is the classic bubbly girl. cool. xilonen exists as a justification for the modern tech. cool. chasca is supposed to be constantly battling demons and was supposedly raised by literal beasts but it's barely addressed/isn't reflected in her character both design and personality wise, and both of her npc sisters were more interesting than her. citlali was cool until she turned into yet another aether simp (they even gave her a specific romantic moment if you play aether, which never happened with playable characters so far). ororon is the saving grace but also turned into a matchmaker for aether and citlali, which is also boring as fuck, and to top it off he's a 4* despite his importance and involvement in the quest (same thing can be said about kachina, the other interesting character). kinich has potential, but appears for a total of 4 frames to have a funny moment with ajaw and then dips. iansan seems really fun but she's yet another chibi with an ambiguous age (professional trainer? how.).
gameplay wise... mavuika is a let down. the nth pyro main dps, HEAVILY reliant on natlan mechanics and characters, fundamentally unplayable without at least xilonen or citlali. the fact that they're rerunning arlecchino in the same patch when arlecchino is 1k better and more powerful is kind of laughable. it is believed that they're surprisingly running both mavuika and citlali in p1 to damage control their revenue, idk how accurate that could be but im inclined to believe it.
xilonen is a cool addition, and a great buff to some teams. she's the only saving grace of natlan so far imo- citlali has a lame ass shield that layla surpasses with a few constellations, kinich is burn reliant so without emilie he's a bit difficult (clinky gameplay as well in my experience), mualani is HORRID to play but she is in fact neuvi-level, chasca is just.. erm. idk. i miss fontaine and sumeru.
even disregarding the glaring issue of gender ratio (a matter so big that even streamers and casual "waifu" pullers are also complaining about it lmao), natlan is ass. like, genuinely. it is ass. i have been playing genshin for 4 years. i stopped buying the battle pass and the login blessing for the first time in these 4 years.
genshin, imo, is the money maker- they've built their empire on it with how big it became, so now they're comfortable enough to neglect it. it's sad and i hate it bc it was one of my favorite games, but i don't really hold out any hope for snezhnaya anymore.

Are successful authors ever industry plants? Is nepotism big in this industry?
I read about certain authors being industry plants (Alex Aster) but I just don’t understand how that would work…or why they would choose someone that had already published books with underwhelming sales to be their plant?
I understand that wealthy people will always have advantages when it comes to access to higher education and not needing to work to provide for themselves and in turn having more time to work on their crafts. Is there more to it than that though?
I don't really think "industry plants" or "nepotism" are things that plague publishing to an unusual degree. This feels like a conspiracy theory with little basis in reality. So short answers: No, not really, it wouldn't work, that's not a thing, and no, there's not really more to it than that.
Longer explanation:
I guess, sure, as in any industry, there might be SOME "nepotism" around publishing. Like if your mom happened to be a high-powered agent or publisher or author, maybe you'd be more likely to get into the publishing business in some way yourself and get some kind of a boost from your/your family connections. But I don't think that's something that is happening A TON or anything -- because let's be real, for the most part, publishing is not the most lucrative of careers. It's just as likely, if your mom was an agent or editor or author, you'd be like "for the love of god, keep me AWAY from publishing, I would actually like to make money!" or your mom would say, "for the love of god, go to LAW SCHOOL or something!"
Yes, of course, as you say, a person with a lot of privilege/wealth generally probs does have a boost in publishing -- they don't have to have twelve other jobs to make ends meet, they have more time to swan around and go to parties and schmooze, they have more resources, a safety net, etc. But I don't think that is something peculiar to publishing, I think privilege helps in ANY industry. (And, it's also very possible to do well in publishing with ZERO previous wealth or "connections" etc. Plenty of folks do! Many/most published authors never knew anyone in the publishing industry before they were published!)
According to Wikipedia, "Industry plant is a term used to describe musicians who become popular through nepotism, inheritance, wealth, or their connections in the music industry rather than on their own merits." (Obvs we are swapping "author" with "musician" and "publishing industry" for "music" here!) Further,  "Artists described as industry plants often present themselves as independent and self-made, but are alleged to have their public images manufactured for them by record labels." (publishers)
The idea that publishers are out there "creating stars" is kind of laughable and gives them more credit than they deserve. Now, might a publisher give media training to an author so they come across more "polished" in interviews, or push a certain narrative about an author when they are doing a PR campaign? Sure, of course. Might a publisher choose to promote a beautiful and charismatic young author a little extra based on the fact that they are beautiful and charismatic? Probably, yes, tbh. -- but they aren't CREATING the authors out of whole cloth. Those authors still have to like, do the work, write the books, submit the books, edit the books, etc etc.
I don't know much about the author you mentioned, but I just looked up this "industry plant" theory about her and it doesn't really make sense to me.
Nepotism? Her family is not, as far as I can see, involved in publishing in any way, so that's nepotism off the table. Wealth? Is the accusation that she, or the publisher, somehow "bought" her way to popularity? That's just not how that works. It's extremely difficult to "buy" or manufacture virality -- if publishers knew how to do that, I promise you they WOULD do that, but they do not. (Hence why publisher marketing departments trying to Make Fetch Happen via tiktok or whatever other social media doesn't usually work at all!)
As far as I can see, this is an author who had a lot of rejections, decided to make tiktoks, went viral, then the book got picked up by a publisher, got a movie deal, etc. This is a lucky thing, and a somewhat unusual thing, but it isn't totally out of left field or anything, and I'm failing to see where "industry plant" comes into the equation. She got a book deal because her tiktoks went viral and that brought her to the attention of the publisher (and also, presumably, because the publisher thought the book was good/ cool and there was obviously an audience for it, see viral tiktok). She didn't "present herself as self-made" per se -- she WAS self-made in the sense that she wrote a book, and then it got published? And the publisher didn't "create her public persona", because she wasn't connected with the publisher until AFTER the videos went viral.
Basically, I think if people (not YOU, but other people) are out there saying that some author -- especially a young woman author -- is "an industry plant" and only got whatever they got because they are wealthy, or young, or pretty, or a nepo baby, or have a certain background, or whatever it is -- it's likely jealousy, and maybe some misogyny, fueling that kind of talk. Because while sure, any of those things certainly might not HURT an author's chances of becoming popular / successful, they still have to do the work. There has to be A BOOK that THEY WROTE at the end of the day.

2024 Horror Challenge: [35/?]
↳“My Soul, for hers.“ The Crow (2024) dir. Rupert Sanders
Plot: Soulmates Eric and Shelly are brutally murdered. Given a chance to save the love of his life, Eric must sacrifice himself and traverse the worlds of the living and the dead, seeking revenge.
Starring: Bill Skarsgård, FKA Twigs & Danny Huston
Well, speaking of bad movies, I watched this recently. lol Only out of pure curiosity. That, and I do like Bill Skarsgård so I did wanna see what he was able to bring to this iconic role. I feel like he did the best he could for the most part. The thing about it is, for many, The Crow will always be Brandon Lee, not just because of what happened to him so, no matter what, he was always gonna get haters regardless if he did a good job or not. It did kinda feel like he was phoning it in the first half ngl but I think it's because they wanted him to act that way. So, that when Shelly died and he came back, he would would appear more dynamic as The Crow with the action scenes. He did feel a lot more present in those moments tbh. Now, FKA Twigs... I will admit I was apprehensive about her casting before going in so when I found out I had a good reason to be, I couldn't be too shocked. It's mostly the beginning when she's supposed to be panicked unbelievably and the acting was beyond cringe that it really bothered me cuz I was like, "Oh no, Idk about this lol". Otherwise, it was just subpar to me for the rest of it. I barely was able to buy the love story though. It both got too much focus & yet was also severely undercooked as well. Why they needed to add the details they did I'll never know (unless that was from the comic books I guess) but definitely not needed. Danny Huston does what he can as the seasoned veteran of the cast but otherwise they mostly waste a villain with a kinda cool power trick that eventually feels repetitive the more we see it. The most exciting part of the movie is the big action sequence at the opera house, which was kinda cool (but also kinda still fell a little flat for me) I just wish I could say I had been more entertained by this movie than I actually was. Also, what was that last act??? Again, total waste of Danny Huston's villain. Very underwhelming confrontation that was not satisfying payoff at all. I truly get why Bill had been distancing himself from the movie cuz it's pretty obvious why this reboot has been in production hell for all these years now. They should have never done if we're being real here. Oh well, at least I did try to give it a chance but I think we all knew this was quite possibly gonna be a miss. If nothing else, Bill was nice eye candy??? LOL
(Btw this is getting count as a horror movie since on IMDB that's one of its labels. Just clarifying since the original is not considered to be one by many as far as I can tell, which I get since I'd say more edgy superhero movie)

Okay, I Am Still spoilers under the cut. Let's do this.
Oh boy, that was something.
Seeing Jungkook made me so happy and at peace. His bright smile makes me happy. I felt so much love for him, so real and deep that it's surreal I feel that way and that my love for him has grown so much throughout chapter 2 - and that I've loved him for 5 years now... When the first Golden performance was played, I really felt so serene and present. I wanted to close my eyes. My problems felt so far away and I was grateful to be alive and to be alive at the same time as Jungkook. I often think this, but as long as Jungkook is happy, then at least one person I really love is okay, and that makes living a little bit easier. So I often plead to myself for him to be happy and have a happy ever after (as much as possible in a world where sickness and death are guaranteed). So, thank you, Jungkook, for every bit of comfort and happiness you give me, and for filling my heart when I feel that it is so hollow. I'm so proud of you. I was so proud seeing your journey.
I was also so moved at the end of the movie... Magic Shop played, then the black screen thanking Army showed up (tears), followed by Jungkook shaving his hair for the military... His hairstylist cried... It was sweet and sad, I love how much everyone loves Jungkook. He hugged his hairstylist was sweetly and acted bravely. And then Jimin showed up and Jungkook acted silly for him... The doc ended. with Jungkook making a funny face... It felt very Jungkook. It left me feeling happy, sad, grateful, touched, and overwhelmed all at once.
I guess the documentary also made me feel bad for how critical I am of him. It's just my nature. I feel things very deeply or very shallowly...
Now, other thoughts and criticism:
Most of the doc was rather underwhelming. I paid too much to see something that could've been available for free on YT. It had about the same quality as LSRF's docs tbh. They could've hired a really good producer instead.
I get the story they were telling, but it left much to be desired. The timeline was all over the place, and they overall showed very little given the material they must have. They could've dug so much deeper and shown so much more of Jungkook - which is what I believe he probably wanted. They showed so much old footage, like some of his performances and interviews. It was all about showing his success, talent, and perseverance. That's great and all, but it doesn't make the doc insightful or new.
I wanted to really see the process of creating Golden. Not just him recording stuff and traveling the world, but discussing the songs, the MVs. Why did he release the explicit version of Seven - what was that discussion like? Why he decide on collabs? How did he choose the songs? Why did he decide to make an English album after 3D - was it an easy choice or was he unsure about it? Did he give his input on the MVs? The doc doesn't answer these questions or truly show the decision-making process behind Golden, behind Seven, 3D, and SNTY. So it's less about Golden, and more about Jungkook's growth. I guess Golden is only about Jungkook proving something, but they could've done more, dug deeper, showed more of Golden since the doc is marketed as a "making of" Golden.
Still, it did show candid and very Jungkook-like moments and how his confidence in himself grew. It showed what his goals were, and I really relate to what he said about not knowing what the end goal is but that at least he's learning. I also don't know what I want my career to be yet, but I'm learning stuff and hopefully I'll figure it out.
I just expected more substance. Showing him perform and being interviewed was unnecessary. We've already seen all of that. Some performances and interview moments are fine, but there were too many imo. I also didn't like the quotes from some of the producers. Tbh, Jungkook would've made a much better documentary than Hybe. I was still satisfied in the end though.
On another note, I witnessed the Taekook effect for the first time irl. Some fans started yelling when V showed up - they either love V or Taekook, or both. No one really reacted with Jimin or Jikook...
This was my first time seeing BTS on the big screen. I'd never done it previously because I don't want to give Hybe money and because it didn't feel worth it. I was also very afraid of watching it with other Armys. I expected fans to yell when JK appeared shirtless, which they did, and they laughed and cooed a bit too much, but overall fans were quiet. Thankfully. That had been my biggest concern... The Portuguese just can't be bothered with anything.
Speaking of Portuguese, I paid 11 Euros for a movie that was translated into Brazilian Portuguese? I never thought an official movie would be shown in Portuguese from Brazil in Portugal. It is not the same as Portuguese from Portugal. A lot of the translation sounded off.
Anyway... what did you guys think? I have to eat now before I pass out. I'm so weak my arms and legs are tingling. And I bit all my nails during the doc because I was hungry lmao.
Edit: Forgot to add that beginning the doc with baby pictures of Jungkook was too cute. Also, I loved all the moments of Jungkook Jungkooking. Cause of death: Jungkook and his big, pretty eyes, and cute mannerisms, and perfect heart.
