why everybody is wrong about the unlock date for akechi's rank 6 (and why it matters)
So It Is Known that Akechi's rank 6 unlocks on 9/3, right? That's the first day he'll show up in Leblanc to go to the bathhouse and tell you about his sad backstory (again). That is his unlock date. R...ight?
Game says no.
Tumblr media
This is the function that (usually) tests Akechi's rank 6 time lock, SUB_COOP_TIME_[L]OCK6(). What does it do? It sets a bit, 0x1 831, if we fail the check. Which we will unfailingly do on every single day within a specified date range. And what is that range?
That range is between 4/1 and 8/28.
Read that again. Not 9/2, the day before 9/3. 8/28.
The same 8/28 we all know and love for, uh, some reasons:
Tumblr media
That's right. The reason Akechi's confidant is locked until 9/3, the reason he has not one but two "let me tell you about my backstory" events inside of a week, is that one triggers the other.
Akechi shows up at Leblanc on 8/28. He finds a listening ear, and a shoulder to cry on—because, remember, we're smack in the middle of Akechi Hate Month:
Tumblr media
This kid, who is so desperate for attention and approval that he's become a mass-murderer over it, is now in the middle of a public hate storm. And on 8/28, you listen to him. You make him welcome. You accept him for who he is—at least, for a little part of who he is.
And so he comes back less than a week later. On 9/3.
if he unlocks on 8/29, why 9/3?
Akechi's availability is often quite limited. Between 8/28 and 9/3, he's only available on one day, 8/30—though if you're already at rank 5, you can't do anything with him then.
Why doesn't he come to Leblanc on 8/30?
The Leblanc field (areas in P5 are technically known as fields) calls a very long, very unedifying function called NPC_FLAG_SELECTOR(), to see which NPCs it should load when. In short? It does this by testing the day of the week.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
GET_DAYOFWEEK() returns a number between 0 (Sunday) and 6 (Saturday). So, because Akechi will only come to Leblanc if GET_DAYOFWEEK() returns 6, Akechi will only ever come to Leblanc on Saturdays.
And the first Saturday after 8/29? It is, of course, 9/3.
why does this matter?
Does this change anything? In practical terms, no. Akechi is still always going to be inaccessible for rank 6 until 9/3. But does it confirm anything about him? Well, yeah.
Akechi's rank 7 unlock really is on 11/2, the morning he tells you "I was working last night, so I'm tired today"—that time lock terminates on 11/1. His skill checks (Knowledge and Charm) are all exactly what you think. He even has a hidden lock for rank 8 (still called a time lock by the code) which verifies that he's currently a team member and won't let you proceed otherwise; that, too, acts exactly as you'd expect.
It's rank 6 which turns out to have this secret, to truly be as closely connected to 8/28 as it always appeared. Akechi comes to Leblanc in his hour of need, and he finds something—and then, the next day, he wants more.
And so he comes back—the very next evening he can get away to spend time in Yongen-jaya.
(Incidentally, I'm pretty sure Akechi lives in Kichijoji, and this kind of backs that up. It's the sort of super-trendy place he'd make a show of liking, and in fairness, he clearly does like it. He can only come to Yongen on Saturday nights because it's a lot of travel, close to an hour each way in the early evenings. But Kichijoji? He can hang out there far more often—because it's right on his doorstep.)

it is 4am on a saturday night/sunday morning and i’m in a writing mood
okay maybe too much anyways enjoy
alright so yeah if you saw my previous posts and read my paragraphs i gave basically some small summaries of the dynamic that goes on here between ruikasa, i wanted to elaborate on that more because yeah au brainrot
rui starts off as this student who’s always doing little shenanigans, whether it be tinkering with his machines, practicing more advanced spells, skipping classes a since he already knows the material well, all that. he’s often been caught in the library slacking, in which he tries (and somehow succeeds) in being smart and smug about it. he’s most caught by tsukasa, which is why he always has just the right excuses ready for him, since messing with a student who’s part of the council is uh..yeah, walking on eggshells with that one buddy
Tumblr media
tsukasa’s the vice president of the student council so he’s very busy, and he occasionally ends up in the library to drop off stuff for teachers. he’s a really bright and social student, also the one who people reach out to the most when they need their issues addressed, as he’s the easiest to find when it comes to the council (also because ms president asahina mafuyu is a little scary).
now jumping into his early relationship with rui. he catches rui slacking in the library like every other time he heads there, which he does a little frequently to return some stuff for staff. of course trying to be a good student he scolds him every time he catches him. which is often. and rui just responds smugly and goes about his day. only other time tsukasa ever encounters rui is in potions, the one class they share together. though tsukasa never really makes conversation since he’s busy both with the assignment and helping other classmates. either way rui’s not even there half the time.
generally around first semester they have some sort of rivalry. somewhat troublemaking student with THAT guy right there.
Tumblr media
that is until one day rui sees tsukasa out in the courtyard, by himself, rather than surrounded by other students at the academy or what were assumed to be his friends. just sitting there on a bench by himself. his expression not being what was usually shown during class hours either. rui, someone who’s basically alone all the time since students actively avoid him for being "weird and strange," noticed this and thought that something was up, but he wasn’t sure. perhaps tsukasa just wasn’t feeling well? no no, rui knows the face of someone who’s lonely when he’s wore it so much himself. he was just wondering as to why tsukasa would even feel that way when he’s so popular. to be fair, with tsukasa it was like..people only ever knew how he acted in front of a large group. he’s like, so well known yet unknown at the same time, kind of. so out of curiosity rui goes and talks to him.
when he first does tsukasa immediately pulls back up the bright student look. in hopes that he would seem alright. or in his mind not to seem vulnerable in front of someone else. rui, skeptical, questions him about how he looked earlier. tsukasa brushes it off as being ill, before rui just casually admits that he knows what feeling lonely is like, so that tsukasa wouldn’t need to hide it. which allows tsukasa to let himself a little more loose. as they keep talking for a little, tsukasa at one point kind of accidentally projects onto rui all the issues he feels regarding his position and reputation, whoopsies! rui helps him out and comforts him, then they take their goodbyes and all that for the day. from that point forward they do try chatting a little more, and after like a week or two they decide to start becoming friends.
and doing things that normal friends don’t do
tsukasa’s homosapien awakening right here folks.
after like a month or two of befriending rui, tsukasa starts noticing uh..things going on with him that he doesn’t normally feel around other friends of his. like he wants to be spending more time with rui than normal, he feels himself getting a little more awkward when talking to him, and especially when rui teases him jokingly, just…."normal friend stuff!!!! yyeah..i’m not uh..oh..OH…….am..there is no WAY i’m gay for this guy..this guy right here..what……FUCK that explains so much shit"
rui realizes these feelings himself a little later, but is a lot, lot better at hiding it. at least compared to tsukasa. both are terrified to tell one another because of the fear that they might separate, so they hide it. tsukasa eventually steps up though, probably at the day of some event or whatever, he invited rui to go with him, yeah, all that..then when the time is right boom the most extra tsukasa style confession right there (i might actually write that one out..)
rui in absolute shock accepts and tjenb yay they finish the rest of the semester now in a relationship yay!!!!
okay that’s just gonna be the ruikasa stuff that i have planned out for now, came up with this au idea like yesterday so maybe expect more stuff besides from these two clowns
..no one’s gonna read all this my god 😭

Here’s some songs I’ve assigned to some of the dwk animated series characters
Leon
Afraid-The Neighborhood
Abandonment issues, especially the fear of being replaced and the fear of your friends secretly hating you…this song was made for him
Ravistettava ennen käyttöä-Apulanta
It’s a Finnish rock song about a guy who thinks there’s something wrong with him and tries to cope with it with reckless and pessimistic behavior so yeah fits him in general
Vanessa
Word Up!-Korn
This just fits her personality since it’s about being unapologetically yourself and not caring about others judging you
(The original version is made by Cameo but I think Korn’s cover of it fits her more)
I Hate My Mom-GRLwood
Pretty self explanatory, mommy issues and and having to face misogyny
Jojo
Duvet-bôa
To quote the anonymous person who send me their assigned Jojo song,
“mental illness. not much else to say”
All though I will add this song would probably specifically fit his life around the time when his mom got send to the hospital since the feeling of being so lost
Thank You Mom-Good Charlotte
Pretty self explanatory, his relationship with his mom even if times weren’t always easy
Deniz
Bitter Choco Decoration-Syudou
Perhaps a bit extreme but it fits his character before the series and even during it, especially at the beginning. Like his masking, identity crisis and trying to be like what other people, especially his dad, always wanted him to be
I’m A Marionette-Ghost
Same theme, however especially his relationship with his dad before the series and at the beginning of it and like the loneliness it’s implied he experienced at that time
Damn I just assigned extreme angst to Deniz. Uuhh good luck next time? I’ll assign something happier then
Markus
Hell Above-Pierce the Veil
Fits his struggles at home through the series and how soccer and his team are his escape from it
The Hand That Feeds-Nine Inch Nails
This just kinda fits the whole “the politicians suck a lot and his dad is working directly with them” struggle he has to navigate through
Raban
How Soon Is Now?-t.A.T.u
This just fits his loser boy (I mean that in the most positive way) personality since it’s about insecurity, feeling isolated and the need to be accepted and loved
Life Itself-Glass Animals
Again fits his personality, like his tendency to keep on trying and stay positive even if others don’t appreciate that
Marlon
I Want My Tears Back-Nightwish
Ah yes angst, Marlon probably had to take responsibility pretty early on his life due to his family situation and now he can mourn the things he lost when having to grow up too fast
Carpe Diem-Joker Out
Fits his personality, he is genuinely a kind person who sees good in others so song about rejecting hate and just having fun with those close to you should fit
(Also it’s in Slovenian but I also included a few Finnish songs and a Japanese one so yeah, language barriers be damned)
Willi
Sunday Morning-The Velvet Underground
Some depression from the 60s, feeling all the years that you’ve wasted hit you during a Saturday-Sunday night, it was pretty much made for him
Tahroja paperilla-Eppu Normaali
A Finnish rock song about a guy reminiscing about their past but also acknowledging that moving forward doesn’t make those experiences any less meaningful. I’d say coaching the team has given him happiness and also some closure with his past so yeah it fits that
Mr Theumer
As Your Father I Expressly Forbid It-Lemon Demon
Honestly the title is pretty self explanatory but not understanding how to bond with your child, criticizing their interests and acting antagonistically towards them is pretty on brand for him
Natasha
Valley of the Dolls-Marina
This fits her just in general, parental issues and only really showing a fake identity to other people
The team as a whole
(Just kinda throwing these here since I’ve already mentioned them in some post)
Kids In The Dark-All Time Low
Mama-My Chemical Romance
Kryptonite-3 Doors Down
Teenagers-My Chemical Romance
Immortals-Fall Out Boy
Party At The End Of The World-My Chemical Romance
Willi’s old team
The Kids from Yesterday-My Chemical Romance
That’s it for now👍👍

So last weekend was very busy, culminating in…well, we'll get to that.
We arrived at our hotel in outer San Diego and didn't feel much like going out to dinner, so grabbed a few snacks from the hotel shop.
Then there was an early start on Saturday morning as we drove to the coast to go whale watching. This was on a small boat (six passengers) heading out into the Pacific where the Captain had recently seen blue whales. Sadly, they were not in evidence that morning. But we did see a large (Captain reckoned 200) pod of dolphins, which was kinda cool. They weren't doing much apart from swimming around 'socialising' and jumping a little out of the water. Disappointing not to see any whales, but the chances of seeing any were not guaranteed (after all, they have the whole ocean to wander around in) but at least we got to see some wildlife.
After a pleasant lunch in a diner, we rolled back to the hotel before shooting out in the early evening to the local baseball stadium to watch the Padres entertain the Rockies. We didn't have any particular interest in who won the game, but it was the local team by a margin of 3-2 so the home fans were happy. Even I remained happy when I remembered I had left my sweater in the bar just before the Uber drove off, not after!
Sunday was the reason we went to San Diego in the first place - the MLR final. After breakfast (it wasn't a small one) at a place across from the hotel, we ubered to the stadium after having a short chat with the owner of one of the other (non-playing) MLR teams, the Houston SabreCats.
The stadium is very much not what we're used to out in Maryland. It's a 20,000+ seater stadium, with no rain protection…and by default no sun protection. It was a very sunny, warm afternoon! Thank goodness there was a great selection of drinks and food available.
Tumblr media
The game itself was slightly one-sided - New England Freejacks comfortably beat Seattle Seawolves by 20-11 but it was still entertaining. We even hung around a while for the post-match set by DJ Marshmello. Yeah, I had never heard of him, but a few people seemed keen.
Final act of the day was to drive to a mall for supper, which was very nice, sitting outdoors in pleasant temperatures.
But, during the afternoon/evening I developed an annoying tickly cough. Which lifted a little by the time I got onto the plane to fly home on Monday morning. On Tuesday morning - after a night of little sleep and a huge headache - I decided to try a COVID test, and guess what? Yes, it was positive. So I spent Tuesday in bed and the rest of the week working from home. I have still tested positive this morning, which is a bit of a drag, as the cold symptoms I have been having during the week have died down considerably today.

Bar hopping at 8...
How did you spend your weekends from the ages of 8-12? Playing on bikes with your friends? Cinema trips? Cosy evenings around the TV watching Noel's House Party? Not quite the same in the Galunacy household. For 5 days of the week, my brother and I were normal school kids, but as the school bell rang on Friday (no, we didn't turn into bananaman/woman/person). We would be picked up by mum in the latest nuts/wildly impractical motor dad had purchased - Cherokee Chief, Aston Martin, Cheeseburger Mini. All bags packed and off to Gray's Inn Road, Holborn, London we schlepped for the weekend. (I write about the journeys in another blog post further down the page) This was where dad lived permanently, we could not live with him all the time as it was just too crazy. The commercial premises on Gray's Inn Road, opposite the soon to be ITN building at the beginning was where his electrical company was housed but later it evolved (naturally) into the first bar, music venue and restaurant. Never, really knowing what we would walk into, there was a fair amount of trepidation about what the weekend would hold. In the early days, it was pretty awesome. On the Friday evening, whilst my dad and mum would do work, my brother and I would fuck about with power tools in the basement. We would then go out for food on nearby Exmouth market, one of the biggest highlights - this was the late 80s so not much of that was around Steeple Bumpstead. Chinese and Indian, or across the road to dad's mad friends Italian restaurant. These were always fun nights, as we were either smashing poppadoms over our heads, asking for suicide sauce (my brother meant to say Soy Sauce, he was very little), or setting fire to those Amaretto Biscuit waxy wrappers to make wishes...dad would normally fall asleep in a bowl of whatever he was eating. Saturday mornings, would be where we had to keep quiet and amuse ourselves. So my brother and I would go back to the power tools, and sawing random bits of wood - how we managed to keep our limbs intact, I will never know. Mum and Dad would work, they ran the business together. If we were good - in the afternoon, there would be a fun trip out in London to one of the many attractions in the city. I have happy memories of Greenwich Observatory, Tower of London and various museums.
The Sunday's were where it all started to unravel, and to this day I am so thankful for pubs closing at 3pm! Remember that?! We would normally go to one of the famous pubs to watch lunchtime blues. Now these places were popular, so they were normally heaving, sweaty, loud and definitely no other kids there. We had to sit in the corner with a bottle of coca cola and some crisps and witness the fun unfold. Everyone drank Newcastle Brown Ale, everyone smelt like Newcastle Brown Ale, you stuck to the chairs and floors because well...Newcastle Brown Ale. We saw some amazing acts, in some legendary pubs and now I absolutely love that sort of music so I am thankful for this music education. In fact this would probably be my favourite way to spend a sunday afternoon now sans Newcastle Brown Ale. But to the ears of an 8-12 year old - it felt it was endless. An endless afternoon of music, that all sounded the same, whilst watching your dad get pissed and chat to his mates. It would get more and more raucous, people would talk at me with hot aley breath. Dad would go a bit on the turn and we would have to be careful to keep the 'we are enjoying this' faces plastered on our face. The best bit was when Mick the Jug (a real character in that scene) would walk around the pub getting money for the band - that meant we were on to last three songs and then in car, drop drunk dad off and drive back to our home ready for school on Monday.
In the early days, it felt like a big adventure - our weekend school news stories rivalled the other kids and quite often we were told off for 'creative writing'. To which we protested it was all true! We had two lives and it was exciting - but then came the Fenders - the bar. How the bar came about is another story, and a real turning point for our family and how these weekends would pan out.

So, fun times at work this week!  By fun, I mean that I would rather chew glass. Our shift lead is back, which is amazing. But. We have New Guy. Buckle up, because this is weird.
New Guy (NG) is in his early twenties, and showed initiative in getting his job.  Read: he badgered my store manager until she said ‘Fine, I’ll give him a chance.’ So she gets his paperwork done and tells him he’ll start Tuesday night with the kitchen manager. Great! He calls and tells her that he’s having some family issues, he can’t start til Friday, and oh, he also has busted ribs. O-kaaaay.  Whatever. Friday rolls around, and he comes in to train with one of our best. We didn’t think he would have a problem, since he’s worked in fast food before and at Our Store Franchise.
Trainer tells me on Saturday that he was on his phone most of the night, and that he bolted at 10pm (we close at midnight) citing another family emergency. He never acted at all like he had broken ribs, and I would know - RIB INJURIES SUCK ASS. Again, whatever. Now my suspicions are up. This is the second ‘family issue’ that he’s cited since starting. Now, before anyone gets mad, I am well aware that this could be genuine. But I don’t think so.  Why? I had to work with him for three hours on Saturday night because I had to cover for someone. He was good about being off his phone around me, but everything I told him just seemed to go in one side and out the other.
Tumblr media
But he kept trying to suck up to me. Whatever, I’m used to it.  Comes with the job.  If he’s not sucking up to me, he’s bragging about things that don’t even sound real.  And then asking if his wife can come see him for a bit. Sure, I don’t care as long as she isn’t a nuisance. Then repeatedly, ‘I get off at 11, right?’
No. You get off at midnight with the rest of us, and you have to wait until the store is cleaned and prepped for the next morning. You are training. He’s already on my last nerve, but hey, maybe it’s just personality clash.  I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt, but I have a feeling he won’t last. At any rate, he asks if he can have Sunday off since he’s still training. I tell him no, because the schedule is posted, and unless he has a replacement, he’s stuck. My other coworker tells him that she can’t handle Sunday on her own because it’s busy. (It really is.) Later, he tries to get off work again by saying that he just found out that his grandpa is having surgery for prostate cancer. On a Sunday. Dude, we live in the US. That is highly unlikely unless it’s an emergency. Which he flat out tells me it’s not. His grandpa has had suspicions for a few months.
Tumblr media
Fast forward to Sunday afternoon. One of the girls calls me up, and says that NG already called in. With a temperature of 165 Fahrenheit. He has since amended this to 106.5, but I digress. If you’re gonna lie, be good at it, damn. He claimed he was in the hospital, but we heard nothing. No doctor’s note. He was only supposed to work three days this week, but I call my boss anyway. I tell her my thoughts, and she says that he has been calling her and talking about all this drama that makes it so he can’t work.
‘He can say it all he wants,’ I tell her. ‘One more chance. If he doesn’t straighten up, I don’t want him on night crew. I will send him home.’ Boss says okay. We’ll see how Wednesday goes. I come in, and he is immediately bugging me before I can even clock in, so I back him up a bit and tell him to give me a moment.
I sent him to kitchen manager, and we let him loose for a bit to see what he would do. This is a pretty good test of someone who’s been training - it gives us a sense of initiative, and to see where you’re at in terms of teaching. Is it at all surprising that he didn’t do a thing? Didn’t check warmer food, didn’t ask if there’s anything he needed to do, no cooler check, cleaning, nothing. Just stood there on his phone. And when I passed by, I got the excuse of ‘I’ve got a lot going on right now.’
Even if you do, we have a rule. Life sucks, but we ask you to please leave it at the door. I know it’s not always possible, but please try. You’re here to work. At any rate, he lasts for about two hours on Wednesday. He asks to take a break, and kitchen manager tells him sure. So he goes outside for a smoke, and then within five minutes, races back inside. ‘My wife is having issues,’ he says, ‘Can I go help her for a few minutes? I’ll come back.’ We tell him to go, but he is to be back within the hour.
It took him ten minutes to call about another ‘family emergency.’
Tumblr media
By this point, I am Done. Stick a fork in me, I’ve had it. So I text my boss, and reiterate what I said. I don’t want him on night crew, and he needs to be fired. He put in for a transfer to Nearby, so she says if he comes back, we can send him home. Well, I had to call the boss in tonight. NG wasn’t supposed to work. But, while Boss is there, we talk about the NG situation in person. Because of his shitty work ethic, his inability to stay for an entire shift, and all the clashing with not just me, but EVERYONE in the management team and otherwise, she told me that if he comes in on Friday, I have two options. Either give him a shot, and if he takes off again, he’s fired. Or, I can fire him when he gets there. My choice.
I’m not gonna lie. I’m tempted to just fire him via text. But it will be more satisfying to do it in person.

Art as a Ministry
Last week on a Saturday Night. I was tasked to do a sharing to the youths aged 13 -17 and slightly above in my Church’s Youth Group and...it got me in this strange state of nostalgia.
In my bedroom, tucked away in the darkest depths of my wardrobe is a dusty old folder that contains the many drawings that I made when I was fifteen-years-old. A time capsule of a few years past to my very first drawing.
Tumblr media
A drawing of The Warcraft character, Anub'arak; on a bad sheet of science paper.
In this post, I like to share a little more about my background and showcase what this gremlin (Me) used to draw in his younger years that turned from a hobby, to a ministry. I shared in bread crumbs from past posts that I am raised as a Christian but here’s a mildly detailed origin.
- Youth Group Days -
Like most Christian kids, I attended Kids Church on Sunday morning and followed my grandmother back home after Service. By the time I turned thirteen, I was approached by one of the teachers who asked if I was interested to join our Saturday night Youth Group meetings for fellowship and Bible studies. Which I agreed, just to give it a try.
As I appear more and more in these meetings, I started getting attention from the seniors and elders. Which got me more involved in other church activities.
Tumblr media
From Cell Group Meetings with some elders to joining our local choir and worship team. I also attended our annual year end youth camp with youths from around the country. If you wish to know a tad bit more. I’m a Methodist.
Our church is also involved with ministering to the neighborhood. We would visit and minister to them, hear their needs and provide, do fun activities with the kids while the adults have their service and all that community stuff. It was tons of fun and I got to meet a color of adults from many backgrounds and opinions. Sadly, I’ve learned that as much as I loved all this experience and act of service, its just not for me.
- The One Consistent Thing -
I kept doing in my spare time was my hobby, drawing. I loved drawing because it felt like therapy. It kept me still and focused and helped me channel my energy on an empty sheet of paper with the reward of completing and posting it up for friends and strangers to see.
I talked briefly before about how a friend of mine, Richie. Recommended that I set up a DeviantART account so that I could make connections with other like minded people and perhaps use the space to develop my skills but as some of you may have already know, [It met its demise this year]
Tumblr media
Nevertheless, it was a fun platform to try my hand in drawing and sharing. My first stepping stone for the path to come. I would draw Robots, Romance (which I will not show cause its cringe) Pop Culture stuff and things that interest me.
Even from an early age, Anime/ Manga was my inspiration. The big shiny eyes, the crazy Shōnen action, the interesting super powers and the cool or pretty character designs. All amazingly illustrated by its respective artists in a scene or in a panel. In some sense, it was my muse but nothing was Scripture related.
Tumblr media
Until one of our seniors brought the physical cover of The Manga Bible Series.
Illustrated by two artists, Kelly Kozumi Shinozawa and Ryō Azumi. In their respective volumes, the Manga illustrates the events from the Bible. From the chapters of the Old Testament to the New Testament. The most popular volume of them all is, < Manga Messiah > which depicts the life of Jesus or as the manga calls him; Yeshua.
I loved their art style so much that I begun to imitate them in my own creation which I would share in another post. What you need to know for now is that, this Manga series was what got me started to turn my hobby into something more.
Tumblr media
- After School and Later -
My tiny planet of paper and pencil grew in quantity till I finished school. I pursued Multimedia Design in college which lead to my interest to do Digital art and Graphic Design.
On social media, I get to meet and chat with other artists of all kinds. Some of them do art as a way of earning money and several of them use it as a ministry. Most of them are aspiring small time artists who started as fan artists of an existing property that eventually grew into a style and craft of their own.
As time went on, I gained confidence in my work, received exposure of other styles and developed an audience of my own. I would also do this thing where I flip back and forth. Posting stuff that is pop culture related to subjects that is bible based.
Tumblr media
I wasn’t much of a trend chaser but rather, I was a lurker. I observed how my friends did things and studied their interactions with followers. I studied the art community’s culture and language through platforms like Instagram. I practiced and posted as often as I could. Despite the low count and interaction, I kept going regardless.
Was it polished and perfect like my heroes? Absolutely NOT. My work was crooked, the faces looked off and the limbs felt incorrect but, that’s the beauty of having a digital history. It showed my progress and yes, it pained me to look at it today and especially with how I captioned things but that’s a sign of knowing that I’ve grown, even if its just a little.
Tumblr media
It showed me where I was and where I am now. It made me reconsider my values and opinions. Like all those who just started, I posted everything that I put on paper but I tried my best to maintain a certain quality to it. Even with the ones you see here. They are some of my proudest creations that I hold dear to.
Did I improve or did I stagnate? That’s up for debate. Being creative is a personal thing and that personal thing is often times taken from the works of others and life itself. Our creations, our experiences and our influences. They ALL come from somewhere. No matter if we care to admit it or not.
- The Brutal Truth is -
Most people who turned their hobbies into a career, much less into a ministry struggle to enter the scene. Sure, the internet has made things a little easier and people are generally supportive but in the sea of the internet, where everyone is calling for the consumer’s attention. Its hard not to doubt your insignificance.
[The internet is a beast] its judgmental, its anonymous and it hates the corners where people are being happy or sharing things that meant the world to them. It will do anything to throw you off and make you hate yourself and your work. But to have the opportunity to revisit my history and share to the youth reminded me why I did it in the first place.
Tumblr media
No matter how imperfect or perfect it is, ART is a magical thing. It's an inventive space for impossible things to be made real and the only limit is entirely up to you as its creator. At the end of my sharing, I implored the youths to pick up their hobbies and use it to be more than just. Some of them shared that they had an interest in music, art, sports, writing and so on. To be frank, I think most of them didn’t get it or didn’t care. I don’t know.
But perhaps, its ok. As much as I tried to treat it like a testimony, I think it was also a personal reminder. Such as God’s creation. No matter how ordinary or insignificant that very little thing is. It has a name and above all, it has meaning and that meaning is sacred. To us, To God and maybe, to someone out there who needs it. To quote my lecture;
Creativity is an expression that is subjective and no matter your age or your level of skill. There’s a Story to it. A Story you and only you can tell.
Tumblr media
I believe that I still have a decades to go before I’m like my heroes. As are those youths I spoke to that night who have their own passions. I am also aware that for every aspiring artist out there, one or two of them have questionable ethics. As am I. But I encourage them, I encourage you.
Don’t be afraid of your passion. Use that passion to speak to your friends. Share your story, because that story means something to you and its just as important. In doing so, you will set the world on fire. Even if its just one or two people, its more than enough to be a ministry.
Thanks for reading

Part 3 part 5
Masterlist
Buy me a coffee
Lily stared into her hot chocolate while listening to your story. The Gryffindor Commonroom wasn’t the best place to talk shit about one of The Marauders but it will have to do. It’s not like the word of your big fight hasn’t gotten all over the school already(your year at least). Everyone had a different version of you and Sirius’ fight but everyone seemed to believe anything but the truth. Some said you stood him up for that Slytherin, others that he already cheated before the first date and whatnot. The only one who seemed to listen was your best friend (and roommate) Lily.
“Do you think I was too though, Lily?” you questioned, looking for affirmation.
“No, not at all! I’m really happy you are standing up for yourself!” she smiled looking up at you. “Don’t get me wrong, you are not a push-over, no, not at all! It’s just,” she stopped weighing whether to tell you or not. “It’s just you are different with Sirius, you always have!”
You just stared at her wide-eyed. What is that supposed to mean? If anything it was the opposite, you were always fighting with Sirius, ALWAYS.
Lily caught on your confusion so she clarified:
“Even if you two weren’t always nice with each other, you always put him first. After every little fight or contradiction, you would usually side with him. Because that’s all your fights were, teases.” She smiled mischievously before adding “I always thought it was just you being a brat for him to tame, but it’s just my opinion.”
“Gosh, Lily! Can you just stop over-analyzing my every action? Not everything is about kinks or whatever goes on in your sick head!” you tried to look hurt but couldn’t help a smirk. You truly did try to tease Sirius just to have him snap back from time to time, but only now you realized you’ve let him get too comfortable with you doing what he said. If Lily was so good at reading you maybe she did the same with Sirius, but you didn’t have time to even start your sentence when James (quite literally) threw himself on the couch next to Lily.
“Hello, ladies!” he awkwardly stated while looking directly at you with a dumb smile. “I heard what happened today,” he continued not looking away “and I just wanted to say. On behalf of Sirius that he is sorry.” He talked like one of these politicians with sticks up their arses.
    “Don’t even sta-“
“And that,” he quickly cut you off, speaking louder this time “he is a man, and men are usually stupid.”
You heard Lily hum in agreement before sipping more of her drink. James ignored her and continued with his presidential speech.
“Especially the ones that are in love. And Sirius is no superhuman. He is an arrogant prick but, ladies, he’s a prick in love.” he ended dramatically.
He looked really proud of himself which only made both you and Lily burst out laughing. James relaxed a bit himself and looking at you two couldn’t help but give in. You and your best friends laughing like crazy on a cold Saturday night near the fireplace. This was a feeling you haven’t experienced in a while and it made you feel, even if for one second, a familiar warmth in your chest before coming back to the real world and realizing things were never going to be like this again. You stopped laughing, feeling lonely again. You looked at them who didn’t even notice this change in you and smiled. They are a couple now, they are happy without you and who on earth are you to blame them? You were happy for them, truly, but you felt like you were, even if still their best friend, an outsider.
“Y/N, I’m serious though.” James continued making you refocus. “Sirius is head over heels in love with you.”
“I find that hard to believe.” Which you did. Not only did he never show any sign of affection (besides making out while passed out drunk), he usually wasn’t talking to you directly at all (again, besides when alcohol kicked in). Honestly, you wouldn’t be surprised if he just didn’t want to hurt your feelings after what happened at the party so he asked you on a date.
James gave you the warmest smile you have ever received which made you feel, by all means, uncomfortable. He looked at you like a child looks at the stray dog he just fed: benevolent, for sure, but hidden hints of pity.
“You have no idea how much he talks about you.”He rolled his eyes grinning. “Day and night while trying to act cool.” He dragged his voice before making a very smug face which defiantly resembled Sirius: “Have you seen Y/N today? No, I wasn’t looking for her just noticed she’s not here yet. I wonder if Y/N would like these chocolates, I don’t want to buy them for her or anything, dude! She just seems like she would like strawberries I dunno.” He really got into character, it was hard to bring him back after a while.
“My point, Y/N” his eyes were fixed on yours and you felt he was serious. “I know Sirius, I really do. I’ve heard him talk about a million girls but never have I heard a girl’s name more than once. Except yours. Which was annoyingly more than once, believe me.” He bit his lower lips before continuing. “Sirius is very, very dumb. But I’m telling you if there is one person for you, it’s him. He is already very loyal to you, has been since the beginning of the year. Won’t talk about it but I’ve seen him refusing any kind of advance from any girl besides you. He has a lot to learn, for sure, but if you are willing to take him I promise you” he leaned closer, “he will be the best thing for you.”
You looked at Lily for confirmation which she didn’t exactly offer you. She smiled softly before looking away which gave it away she had another opinion. You wanted to ask her but not right now. It was clear she was not comfortable talking about this right now in front of James.
You chatted for a bit more before Lily left for the library to study and Lupin came and picked up James. You were left once again alone with your thoughts. You didn’t really mind sitting alone until you raised your eyes which met Sirius’ across the room. Right now, you felt exposed and vulnerable. Luckily Sirius didn’t come over to you and went directly up the stairs to his dorm room. You exhaled relief before anxiety took over you again.  Why didn’t he come here, though? Has he already given up?
It was Sunday morning and you were woken up way earlier than you planned. You were not sure what woke you up but it was 7 in the morning. You looked around and saw your roommates sleeping soundly which made you even angrier. Were you the only one who couldn’t sleep? Maybe it was the repetition of the conversation you had with James that was repaying in your head since it happened or just the stress about the gossips that woke you up. You decided it was too early to face the world so you flipped over your other side intending to fall asleep. However, you found a beautiful rose sitting on your nightstand with a note tied to it.
      Follow me
You examined the note carefully before noticing some petals trailing to the door. Your first thought was a killer that wanted to lure you to your death. After giving it some thought you decided it was unrealistic and if it was true, you wouldn’t really mind it that much. So you hopped out of your bed and in your slippers and followed the flowers out the door.
//ok so this part wasn’t that exciting, also didn’t really spellchecked or proof read or whatever. I really wanted to post this chapter now. The next part will have smut I promise XDXD

minerva mcgonagall’s personal mission to make severus love christmas part 5
aka snolidays/snapemas day 11 and 12 (hot chocolate, baking) // pre-PS/the years between. minerva and severus friendship // content warning: panic attack and mentions of lily potter. i feel like this should be considered a snapetober entry oops. word count: 4287  @blog4snape
The night ended with more hot chocolate as the five stood together and watched a choreography of lights move above the pond, creating elves loading a sack full of gifts onto the outline of a waiting sleigh, watched it become glowing reindeer pulling it off the ground, rising in height and getting smaller and smaller until it disappeared and the light show began again.
It felt like magic and he refused to believe none was involved.
He fell asleep fully clothed that night, contentment and milk chocolate running through his veins as he begrudgingly made another mark on the imaginary scorecard.
Minerva was definitely winning.
Saturday was spent finishing the potions for the infirmary, bottling and stoppering the dozens of phials, and methodically scrubbing the cauldrons clean as he read from a book hovering above the wash basin, the pages turning with a flick of his head.
He dropped the potions off at the hospital wing, secretly pleased that Poppy was far too busy with a floo call to a student’s parents to bother giving him more than a thankful nod and a wave of her hand. He didn’t mind their conversations, but when three students were laid up sick on starched cots, Severus preferred to be as far away from the infestation as possible.
He spent the night reading, a cup of tea in hand, the soft glow of candlelight nearby to illuminate the words of one of the books he had picked up from Diagon Alley.
Sunday morning found him sprawled out on the couch in his living quarters, fully dressed once again, with the candles snuffed and the book astray, the teacup still nestled between a cushion and his thigh.
He spent the day holed up in his office with a correcting quill, the stack of essays he kept putting off, and no less than four packets of crisps. It was dinnertime by the time he finished reading all the scrolls of parchment, his fingers cramping and eyes bleary. He had the beginning of a headache forming, but the grading was nearly caught up on.
The remainder were short-answer questions, at least.
He wasn’t sure he could sit through another stack of eighteen inch essays for at least another month.
Perhaps two.
The crisps had made him nauseous, so rather than attending dinner in the Great Hall, he flooed into the staff lounge and helped himself to his precious french press that had been left behind. As the coffee grounds soaked, he glanced around the room and took in the stockings.
There were some new additions.
There were his and Minerva’s - white, cable-knitted with fur trim, bearing their names embroidered in black thread - but also a bright blue with Filius’ initials, a pastel-pink made from crushed velvet with Pomona’s name spelled out in tiny yellow flowers, a black with silver snowflakes bearing Aurora’s family crest, and a neon orange war crime that could only belong to the headmaster.
All of them had candy canes peeking out.
There was a tree in the corner now - a tall, proud-looking noble fir - looking like an oversized houseplant when it was devoid of lights and decorations. He finished making his coffee and sat down at the round table, eyeing it carefully.
The rest of the castle was still surprisingly devoid of holiday decorations, but if this tree had already arrived, it was only a matter of time before the rest of it started creeping in. Soon enough, the place would look like a tinsel factory had exploded inside of it and the number of trees within the castle walls would put the Forbidden Forest to shame.
He scowled at the thought.
Later, he realized he had spoken too soon.
Monday morning brought a fresh shower of snowflakes, a drop in temperature, and about thirty-six douglas firs into the Great Hall. These were already decked out with lights, ribbon, and colorful baubles. Some of the trees had clearly chosen sides, cheerily standing tall with the weight of red and gold ornaments, while others were laden with green and silver, blue and bronze, or gold and black.
Garland clung to the old brick, neatly tied with red ribbon and perfect pinecones, spaced out above the portraits and high, arched windows.
He didn’t want to think about the rest of the castle.
There was white chocolate peppermint tea waiting for him at the staff table, so he conceded that not everything that morning was absolutely terrible.
Tuesday was a bad potions day.
Not for him as a brewer, of course, but as a professor.
By the time both his classes ended, eight different cauldrons had either melted, exploded, or absolutely disintegrated without a trace. He lost a full jar of moonstones because one student had decided to bring the entire fucking container to her table rather than count them out beforehand like he had advised, and it had taken all his self-control to stop himself from breaking down right in front of the class of sixth years.
He had collected those moonstones himself, wandering the Forbidden Forest all fucking night, with only a lantern to light the way. They were supposed to last him at least another two months before he would need to venture out again - and the last time he had gone out, he’d nearly sprained his ankle on an upturned root and gotten a tree branch to the fucking face.
Tuesday evening found him four drinks in, asking the house elves to please bring him some hot, salty chips from a local shop, and when the darling little elf returned with the newspaper cone, he babbled stupidly for two solid minutes from gratitude alone.
Wednesday was a headache, a blur of back-to-back classes, a lot of frustrated yelling at completely inept students, a full pot of that wonderful white chocolate peppermint tea, and a sudden decision to not assign any more homework for the rest of the year.
Not because the awful little slimeballs deserved a break, but because he did.
The elves made mushroom and wild rice soup for dinner, alongside everything else they always made, and Severus took more comfort than usual in the hot meal.
Wednesday night was his turn to patrol the castle, so he stayed up half the night wandering the empty corridors. He pulled his cloak tighter around himself as he entered the Astronomy Tower, groaning as he realized Aurora was still there, carefully packing away her supplies post-lesson.
“Oh, don’t act like you aren’t glad to see me.”
“Believe me when I say I’m not.” Severus returned, stepping to the edge and looking over the grounds. Most of it was cloaked by shadows, but the silver light from the moon was still enough to softly make out the silhouettes of the greenhouses and Hagrid’s little hut. “What, no comment on how I’m out past my bedtime?”
Aurora laughed, putting a bronze telescope back into its case and fiddling with the straps. “Not this time, no.” She glanced up at him and warned: “But don’t you ever make me miss out on family dinner again or you will regret it.”
Thursday morning he slept in.
He barely had enough time to pull on his teaching robes and run fingers through his hair before he had to hightail it to his classroom, frazzled and out of breath. He hadn’t had time to prepare the chalkboard the day before, and was quickly writing out the recipe in his messy scrawl, when the seventh years started filtering in.
“Alright, you’re going to need number three pewter cauldrons today,” he called out over his shoulder, finishing the last line of script. “Fill them with two liters of room temperature water and put your burners on low. Today we’re going to be brewing a more complex -”
“Professor?”
He scowled at the interruption. “What is it, Mr. Greenwood.”
“I think your robe might be inside out.”
He blinked and tried not to let his face flush with embarrassment. “Thank you, now as I was saying -” he continued awkwardly, shrugging out of his robe and flipping the sleeves inside out.
“Your shirt buttons are fucked up too.”
“Language!” he scolded, swallowing down the sharp coil of emotion building at the back of his throat. “And do not speak to me like that.”
“Hey, you’re the one walking in here, unprepared, with your clothes all fucked.” Greenwood muttered. “Just what were you up to before class, sir?” he grinned, his comment eliciting a few chuckles.
“Detention, Greenwood.”
“Now, wait a second!” the boy faltered.
“Do you wish to make it two?” he asked, his voice dropping an octave as he raised an eyebrow in questioning contempt. “Because we can surely arrange that.”
“No, sir.”
“Good.”
He finished the lesson on autopilot, quickly fixing the buttons on his shirt in the supply closet, fingers shaking nervously as he muttered angrily to himself. He shrugged back into his robes, double-checking they weren’t inside out again, and downed a calming draught on a whim - the shiny light blue bottle catching his eye from its place on the shelf - before returning to his desk.
He made sure to scowl at each of them in turn and surprisingly enough, not another student made an unwarranted comment about his appearance, his teaching, or even each other. It kept him from reaching for another calming draught when he felt its effects lifting.
Friday found him having a panic attack.
Then again, if no one opened the door to the broom closet he had squandered in, if no one came face-to-face with his crouched down, fingers tangled in his hair, not-quite-yet-out-of-breath, full body trembling self, could anyone really prove he was having an anxiety attack?
He’d barely made it through his second class and had dismissed the second years twenty minutes early, sans homework - and oh, Merlin, they were going to think he'd gone soft - before attempting to return to his personal quarters.
It didn’t quite work out as planned.
His knees had felt shaky and he’d felt as if something were gripping at his throat, pressing down on his lungs, and he had to sit down and ground himself before he had a full-on breakdown in the middle of the corridor. He’d found himself stumbling, as he hid behind the closest doorway, the tidal wave of unchecked emotions too much.
His resolve was breaking.
He tried to focus on his Occlumency shields, tried to push back the unfiltered pain and fear he refused to think about - could not think about - because if he did, he was afraid he would never be able to function again. He was afraid he would break.
The dam was already broken though and now, now the rest of it felt inevitable.
Now he was simply gasping for breath, tears welling in his eyes that he refused to let fall, sitting on the floor of a dusty broom closet, bathed in the dull yellow light that flared whenever it sensed movement, like some sort of spotlight - a beacon honing in on him, existing solely to put his downfall on display.
Far too many thoughts were flitting around his head, crashing into each other and making it difficult to tell them apart, to pinpoint just what had been the trigger, the reason behind his weakness - because surely, that’s what this was right now: weakness.
Footsteps sounded in the corridor and he tried his best to muffle his ragged gasps, hand curled into a fist and pressed into his mouth, teeth sinking into the pale flesh, threatening to break through from the force he was using, so desperate he was to not make a sound.
It didn’t work.
The footsteps paused, their owner faltering.
Voices were speaking from the other side, hushed and mumbled, and with another stroke of panic, Severus realized they belonged to more than one. Students, most likely, and he curled tighter into himself, vehemently wishing for the ground to open up and swallow him whole.
“Are you okay?” a hesitant voice traveled through the aged wood.
He didn’t answer, but he figured his breaths were answer enough.
“Are you having a panic attack?” a different voice called out, sounding just as unsure as the first. “It sounds like you’re really struggling.”
“Do you need help?”
“They probably can’t answer, dummy.” a third voice spoke up, but this one wasn’t addressing him. They were all familiar, but his brain wasn’t letting him process anything to fruition. “Hey, if you can hear us knock on the door.”
He considered ignoring them, but in the end he knocked.
“Good!” the first voice praised. “Alright, knock if we were right about the panic attack.”
Again, he knocked.
“Do you want help?” the second student asked. “I’ve helped my share of students through these.” He suddenly recognized Casper Jenkin’s voice, one of his seventh year Slytherin prefects.
He groaned; as if this situation could get any worse.
“I’m gonna take that as a no.” Oliver Greenwood’s voice muttered, so apparently yes, it could get worse. He was stumbled upon by his own snakes - and his disrespecting seventh years, at that.
“Do you want us to get someone?” Allison Bone, the original speaker, questioned. “Madam Pomfrey or your Head of House? If you’re all the way down here, you’re probably a Slytherin, huh?”
He choked out a laugh at that.
“Laughing!” Bone approved. “Laughing is good! That means you’re getting control of your breathing. The worst part of it is over now.”
“I’m going to open the door, okay?” Jenkin told him, and the doorknob started turning. “It’s probably pretty cramped in there - definitely won’t help.”
“Don’t!” he let out, just as the door opened and he found himself blinking up at his snakes, the three of them blinking down at him, equally dumbfounded, and he wanted to scream at whatever joke of a higher being had shifted the cards enough to lead him here.
“Oh!”
“Professor Snape?!”
He lifted a shaky hand to his face, brushing back disheveled locks of hair. “Get out.” he whispered, low and angry, not caring about the semantics that it technically didn’t apply.
“Are you sure you don’t need -” Bone started, then faltered at the growing expression on his face. “Right, we’re leaving.”
Greenwood eyed him a second longer than his companions, but rather than the teasing glint he usually held whenever addressing him in class, he wore something softer. “Sorry.” he mouthed, genuine concern flickering for a brief moment before he also left.
He put his head in his hands and started laughing, softly at first, but when it became an ugly sob, he fought to regain his composure, nails digging into his scalp.
He managed a deep breath, wiped his face on the sleeve of his robe, and hurried to his personal quarters. He was moving on autopilot now, slipping out of his teaching robes and into a jumper, grabbing a bit of floo powder and calling out a quiet, “may I come through?” when the flames turned a brilliant green.
He stepped into Minerva’s quarters, bypassing her concerned look and collapsed onto the old couch, pointedly ignoring her as he stared at the vaulted ceiling.
“Severus?”
“Panic attack.” he mumbled.
He remained silent after that, listening to the rustling of parchment and paper, the soft scribbling of a quill nib making its way across the page. For a few minutes, that was the only sound, until suddenly Minerva stood up and opened up the floo. Hushed voices followed, then silence, and he finally sat up when he heard the distinct pop of a house elf apparating into the room.
Dorset, one of the school elves most identifiable by his height, was balancing a tray on one hand and a heavy-looking box on the other. He placed both on the kitchen table, nodded at the two, and apparated away.
“What’s this?” Severus asked, his voice gravelly and tired, as he stood up and approached the table.
The box was filled with an assortment of items - butter, eggs, icing sugar, flour, and the like. He could see a bag full of dirigible plums sitting right on top and he smiled despite himself. The tray was holding two ceramic mugs, their contents hidden by the mountain of whipped cream and cinnamon they were topped with.
“Sit down with me.” Minerva said simply, picking up the tray and bringing it to the couch. She sat down at one end, placing the cups on the coffee table, and waited. When he sat down, facing her, she handed him a warm mug. “I asked for hot chocolate.” she told him, eyeing him carefully. “Specifically the gingerbread one we had last week.”
“I liked that one.” Severus mumbled, staring down at his cup.
“I know.”
They were quiet for a few minutes, sipping on their hot chocolate, and Severus could feel his anxiety slowly ebb away as it was replaced by warm comfort.
“You look awful.” she finally spoke up.
He smiled ruefully, but it felt more like a grimace. “I appreciate the honesty.”
“Have you noticed, how every time you experience feelings of distress, someone always tends to interrupt before we can talk?” she asked, watching him. “I think we’ve been putting it off long enough, don’t you think?”
“No.”
“We never got to talk about Yaxley.”
“We didn’t need to.”
“We also never finished our conversation about how you ask for my company whenever you venture out of the castle.”
Severus gripped his mug tightly. “You said enough.”
“You still flinch when people touch you.”
“Can you blame me?”
Minerva paused, studying him in a way that left him feeling exposed. “They’re all connected.”
He kept silent.
Her next words were unexpected. “What about Lily?”
“What about her?” he growled out, anger taking hold and manifesting into shaking hands. He swallowed down the bile he could feel rising, the taste of milk and chocolate suddenly acrid on his tongue.
“You never talk about her.”
“That’s because I don’t have anything to say about her!” Severus finally yelled, nearly dropping his mug. He set it on the coffee table and balled his hands into fists, refusing to break eye contact with the professor before him. “Lily died four years ago, but she stopped being my friend long before that! Do you want to talk about the guilt I carry, knowing it was my fault she died? Because no amount of talking, nothing I do will ever be enough to make up for the fact that I killed my best friend! And I hate myself for that, but Merlin, do I hate her too.”
“Do you?”
“Yes!” he burst out, the words he could never dare himself to say aloud now slipping off his tongue without trouble. “She was my best friend and then she sided with them, with him, after what he did to me! And that’s when I knew she was never really my friend! She saw what he - what he did,” he was starting to gasp for air again, “and she still, she - he -”
He focused on steadying his breathing, arms wrapped around his torso.
“I don’t.” Severus finally amended, in such a soft voice he wasn’t sure it even carried. “I want to hate her so much - and I am so angry at her, angrier than I’ve ever been at anyone - but I don’t hate her. I can’t. Maybe I wasn’t her friend, in the end, but I know she was mine. I lost so many people in the war, but she’s the one who hurts the most, so no, I don’t want to talk about Lily.”
Minerva hummed. “You sort of already did.”
He scowled.
“Drink your hot chocolate before it gets cold.”
Some of his anger fizzled out as he finished the drink. When they were done, Minerva stood up and started pulling out the contents of the box, lining them up on the counter. He joined her, watching as she leafed through a cookbook he hadn’t noticed.
“We’re going to do some holiday baking now.”
“Are we?”
“If you’re not going to talk to me about what led to all this,” she gestured in his general direction, “then we’re going to bake some things for the staff party tomorrow.”
He nodded, sighing. “Where do you want me?”
They spent a few minutes in stilted silence, as he washed the bag of dirigible plums and cooked them down into a sauce, stirring in ground cardamom and honey. Meanwhile, Minerva whisked double cream and cornstarch with vanilla sugar and salt, the pot resting over low flames. He added the plum sauce and smiled as it came together and turned into the warm orange color he remembered.
“What next?” he inquired, after the thickened mix had been poured into a mold and tucked away in the cold cupboard.
“Biscuits?”
The sugar dough came together easily enough, pale yellow and perfectly smooth, and as they sprinkled flour over the table to roll it out, Severus started fiddling with the holiday cutters.
“I can hear you thinking.” Minerva spoke up a few minutes later, dusting her hands off on a clean towel. She reached for a tree-shaped cutter and started pressing it into the dough. “Are you ready to talk now?”
“I have nothing to say.”
“Sure you don’t.”
They finished cutting out all their shapes, moved their biscuits into the oven, and cleaned off the kitchen table. Minerva was opening small jars of sprinkles while Severus whisked together icing sugar and egg whites. He focused on dividing the royal icing into small bowls, adding droplets of colored dye and stirring carefully as if they were a temperamental potion, when he finally broached the earlier subject: “They are all connected.”
“Pardon?”
He didn’t look up, merely repeated himself. “They’re all connected.”
Minerva pulled the baking tray out of the oven and cast a cooling charm before bringing the perfectly baked biscuits to the table. Severus picked one up and absentmindedly broke it into pieces. He shared it with Min and picked up another biscuit, carefully dipping this one into the bowl of red icing and shaking off the excess.
He reached for the star sprinkles. “I try not to think about any of it.”
“You’ll have to, eventually.”
He thought about the broom closet. “I know.”
Minerva dipped a star biscuit into the bowl of yellow icing and handed it over to Severus, who immediately covered it with three different colors of sprinkles. They worked in tandem for a few minutes, dipping and sprinkling all their biscuits, and eventually a spoon was introduced to their project and Severus found himself drizzling thin stripes across some of them.
“I’m giving this one a Dreadful.” Minerva decided, picking up what was supposed to be an ornament, originally dipped in white icing, but then covered with uneven globs of blue.
“Fair enough.” Severus shrugged, levitating the dirty dishes and moving them to the wash basin, spelling the water on. He picked up a candy cane-shape that had been rolled in yellow and violet sprinkles and then drizzled with green. “This one, however, is deserving of a Troll.”
Minerva spelled the dishes to wash themselves and then raised an eyebrow at him. “Severus, you decorated that one.”
“I’m aware.”
The yule log cake was a little more time consuming to make. He sat down at the table and watched Minerva separate eggs and whisk the whites with sugar until it foamed.
“It would be faster if you spelled the whisk.” Severus offered.
“We tried that once.” Minerva laughed, not slowing down. “It worked great at first, but all of a sudden, the whisk was flinging meringue all over the room.”
“How delightful.”
Meringue was light and shiny and the brightest white he could imagine. Min filled a piping bag with the foam and showed him how to pipe little mushroom tops on the baking paper. When he took the bag from her, he was surprised to find it bore no weight.
“Do you not know how to hold a piping bag?”
“Evidently not.” he grumbled, looking at his hand and the fluff of meringue that had spilled out of the bag and over his hand.
“You’re supposed to hold the end closed, you numpty.”
“Numpty?” Severus muttered under his breath.
“Elphinstone always did the same thing.” Minerva shook her head, fixing the bag and finishing the job. “No matter how many times I corrected him, that man couldn’t hold it right. Always went off about how he’s the ministry liaison for the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Min, I don’t need piping meringue mushrooms in my skill set.” She took in a shaky breath and set down the bag. “See? Perfect.”
“Min-”
“Don’t just stand there, Severus.” she scolded, thrusting the cookbook in his hands. “Get to work measuring the dry ingredients. You can make the cake while I make the frostings.”
He started sifting flour and cocoa powder. “It’s okay to miss him, you know.”
“Of course I know that.” she humphed, putting the tray in the oven and spelling the dishes clean. She unwrapped a stick of butter and stared at him. “Do you know that?”
“Minerva, I only met your husband twice.” he deadpanned.
She flicked a bit of icing sugar at him. “Don’t be smart with me. I’m not the one repressing all my emotions and pretending they don’t exist until I can’t stave off the impending panic attack and end up crashing in my colleague's quarters because of it.”
“Fine, you win this one.” he muttered. “You are the pinnacle of mental health, professor.”
“Excellent.” Minerva grinned, but her smile seemed a little bitter. “Does this mean you’re going to talk to me now?”
“No.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Numpty.” she repeated.

6.17

Blinking a few times, Y/N looked around and wondered where she was. ‘Wasn’t I sleeping at Thomas’?’ she thought as she sat up and looked at her body. No cast, no bruises and no pain from the accident.
“Y/N! GET UP! OR YOU’LL BE LATE!” she heard her moms voice call out and Y/N was quick to jump up from the bed and rush out of her room.
Pushing past Alexander, ignoring his cry as she practically slammed the boy into the wall. Y/N found her parents in the kitchen. Her father reading the paper and her mother fixing breakfast. With a sob, Y/N rushed over to them and threw her arms around her mother first before her father.
“What? What’s wrong sweetie?” her dad chuckled and patted her back.
“I… you guys… we were in a crash and you guys…” she shook her head but smiled. “I can’t wait to tell Thomas that I had the craziest dream!” Y/N let out a small laugh.
“What? Why the hell would you talk to Jefferson?” Alex asked, walking into the kitchen and looked at his sister in disbelief. Acting as if she suggested she was going to shave her head and join the circus.
“Because he’s my soulmate dumbass.” Y/N rolled her eyes. “Like you don’t tell John everything.”
Alex flicked her forehead and Y/N narrowed her eyes at him. “I tell John everything cause he’s my Best Friend. Nothing more.” Alex pointed a finger at Y/N who looked confused. “Soulmate? Jesus, you have to lay off the fan-fiction Y/N. You’re starting to dream some real crazy shit. Like falling for your brothers ARCH ENEMY!”
Standing there confused, Y/N didn’t understand what was going on. ‘What does he mean… what? Of course, Thomas and I are together…’
Shaking her head, Y/N went to change into something that wasn’t her pajamas. Though the grey skinny sweatpants she put on and a loose black shirt wasn’t any different. Y/N just didn’t feel like getting pretty for school. Hair loose, no makeup expect for the bit of mascara and Chapstick. She slipped her feet into the Vans shoes by her bed and grabbed her bag.
School wasn’t what she expected. It was as if everything she went through didn’t happen. No one had soulmates, Alex was Senior Class President. Thomas was his usual playboy way; James was a sweetheart around Y/N. Her own group of friends was normal. John and Alex being so cute Y/N felt herself getting cavities, though they were just friends.
Everything was different and Y/N hated it.
That night, at a school game. She warmed up with the other cheerleaders as they got ready for the halftime break and were going to preform a little skit they worked on. Y/N knew it like the back of her hand. She remembered already doing this skit and how Thomas had hugged her and congratulated her on it afterwards.
Now after they finished, the crowd going wild, there was no Thomas, no hugs and kisses before he would run off to finish the game. It was like a drill in her heart and she couldn’t handle it. So, when no one paid her any attention, the girl rushed off to the locker room and changed. Telling her own couch that she wasn’t feeling well and went home.
Even after posting on Instagram, she laid there on her bed, looking up at the ceiling and frowned. The ache she felt was so strong and Y/N wanted it to go away. Turning on her side, not believing everything that she had gone through was a dream, she slowly fell asleep, hugging her pillow to her chest.
BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP-BEEP
With a gasp, Y/N sat up and looked around. Seeing she wasn’t home, that Y/N was in the room she had been staying in while living with the Jefferson’s. Y/N almost cried. So, it had been a dream, her parents weren’t alive, she was with Thomas and her brother was with John. Grabbing her phone and looking at Instagram, Y/N let out a laugh when she saw the last post she made, she had thought it might have been something different… but no. She never made it and her friends were still roasting Alex for not getting John a ring.
Moving to get up, her cast still on her leg. Up to her thigh, mocking her almost. She glared at the thing. “Only one more week…” she told herself and moved to get out of bed. The last few weeks haven’t been the easiest, but she was getting by. Thomas helping her, her brother and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Jefferson were by her side each time she broke down.
After getting out of bed and changed into a long, maxi dress with a leather coat over her. Y/N put her foot in ballet flats and a sock over the other one to cover her toes before heading out of her room.
“Y/N?” she heard Thomas call out and she turned her head.
Wincing at the look of worried on his face, Y/N shook her head. “I’m fine! Honestly. It was just… another bad dream.” She told him and smiled when he kissed her cheek.
Walking downstairs, Thomas never leaving her side, there to need her in case anything happens. But he allowed Y/N to go down on her own, taking it one step at a time with the crutches. It wasn’t easy but she was able to go down.
By the time they got to the kitchen, Y/N sat down at the bar-stool at the kitchen island and smiled as Thomas grabbed her the box of cereal, she eats almost every morning.
The two were quite, Thomas not sure what to say and Y/N was still stuck in her own thoughts thinking about the dream she had. Throughout the day Y/N kept to herself as she went to her therapy session and doing mundane things around the house. At least as much as she could do without over working herself.
Not being able to go to school just yet, feeling as if she wouldn’t be ready for that. Y/N did her schoolwork at home, being sent everything she needed to her student email and sending it back to each teacher. Spending her week just like that, waking up, having breakfast with Thomas and kissing him goodbye as he went off to school.
The day she was finally getting her cast off, Y/N was in a good mood. It was as if she would finally be able to be herself once again. So, as she had gotten ready that Saturday morning bright and early. Y/N found herself making everyone breakfast. She had gotten up even before Mr. and Mrs Jefferson.
By the time everyone woke up and had breakfast together. Y/N and Thomas got into his car and headed off to the hospital where she would get the cast off at her eight o’clock appointment. Y/N was talking and making jokes. Holding Thomas’ hand throughout the car ride. Never noticing the bright smile Thomas had on his face every time he glanced at her. He was happy that she was acting like her old self again.
It was two hours later when they were back in their car and heading back home. Sure, she still had to use a supportive boot, but at least she didn’t have to wear the annoyingly large cast.
The two looked at each other and smiled. “You know… I’m all caught up in my schoolwork… Football season is over so there’s no games.” Thomas spoke up and Y/N raised an eyebrow at her boyfriend.
“Okay….” She trailed off, not following what he was trying to get at.
Chuckling, Thomas grabbed her hand and grinned. “Wanna go on a small vacation? Just us? I have money…”
With wide eyes, Y/N turned her body so she could look at Thomas better. “Really?” she asked, only to squeal when he nodded. “Myrtle Beach!” was the first place Y/N thought of for them to go.
As soon as it was decided, Thomas drove home where the two quickly went to pack. Being sure to pack warmer clothes since the weather was still cold. Though thankfully there wasn’t much snow on the ground. Y/N was sure to text her friends that she would be away for the weekend. Thomas doing the same but being sure to message his parents as well. Just so they wouldn’t worry.
By the time they finished getting their bags packed for the three-day weekend. The two continued on their way back to the car where they set off to Myrtle Beach for their getaway. Music blasting and the two singing, Y/N doing her best to rap along with the songs Thomas played.
Of course, they had to make a couple stops, bathroom breaks, food stops and places they deemed worthy to stop and take pictures of.  What would have been only six, almost seven hours turned into nine hours in the car driving to their destination. Not that either minded.
Finally arriving at the hotel, the two would stay at, Thomas signing them in since he was eighteen already. Y/N held onto his hand as she kept watch on their bags before finally being handed the keys to their room and they headed up to their room on the 14th floor. Once inside, they put their clothes into the drawers and laid in bed.
Y/N had decided to take the boot off to let her leg breath some as they were just laying there. It was nearing dinner time and the sun was going down, so the two looked at one another in silent agreement to order room service. Being the one to turn around and grab the phone, along with a menu from the drawer. Y/N smiled as Thomas kissed her forehead, mumbling about going to shower.
Once the food order was placed, Y/N laid there and stared at her phone. It didn’t take long for the two of them to shower and get dressed for the night. Dinner was brought up and Y/N laid in bed with Thomas, a movie playing on the tv while they ate. A burger with fries for Thomas and the chicken tender platter with a side of salad with the Caesar dressing. Though of course she stole some of the fries from Thomas plate. Grinning each time, she snuck a French fry and he would playfully glare at her.
»»———— ♡ ————««
The weekend went perfectly between the two of them. Y/N and Thomas doing everything a couple would do. Sightseeing, going to the beach, despite the cold weather. Walking the boardwalk and going to the fair that was open that weekend. It was a memorable time for the two. It was a much-needed break that the two of them needed. So, by Sunday, after posting something cute on her Instagram. Just wanting everyone to know that she was indeed alive.
Tumblr media
Y/N was grinning when she had yet another hashtag going on, loving nothing more than to bother her idiot brother. The same idiot who spent majority of the weekend calling and texting her whenever he could. Just to make sure Thomas was trying to corrupt his sister. (His own words.)
When they both paid for the hotel and got back in their car, Y/N pulled Thomas closer to her and placed a small kiss to his lips. A hand going to the back of his neck while they both savored the soft kiss. “Thank you…” she whispered, lips brushing against his as she spoke quietly.
“You know I’ll do anything for you babygirl.” He chuckled and gave her one more peck before they put on their seat belt and started the drive back home.
Having left a little after Five o’clock that Sunday evening. The two of them only agreed to stop once when they neared D.C to get dinner.
Stopping at a cute diner, one that looked right out of the 80’s, Y/N was in love with everything from their weekend together. The pictures they took, the time they spent together. The indoor pool and hot tub in the hotel. Thankfully she could take off her boot whenever she wanted so she got to enjoy her time.
“You do know… that now this week you’re going to be taking it easy.” Thomas said as he pointed at her with the straw from his milkshake he had. Causing Y/N to pout.
Nodding either way, she slumped back against the booth seat she sat in. “Yeah, my leg kinda aches now that we’re not on the move… though the massages you had been giving were amazing.” She playfully batted her eyelashes at him, causing the two to laugh together.
“Here you two go… dessert is on the house. The two of you make such a cute couple. Nice to see young love still exists.” Their waitress, a king old lady said as she set the check on the table.
Y/N beamed with happiness and thanked the lady before Thomas and her started on the argument on who was going to pay for dinner. In the end they split the check and headed back to the car together. Holding hands and a comfortable silence between the two.
With still two hours until they arrived home, Y/N fell asleep against the car window curled up with a pillow under her head and Thomas’ jacket over her body.
Arriving home, Thomas didn’t even bother in waking her up. Instead he was careful in opening the car door on Y/N’s side and carrying her inside the house. She had woken up as soon as he had picked her up from the passenger side seat, but she kept her eyes shut and let him take her inside. Hearing him say a soft hello to someone, Y/N assumed it was his parents, she just snuggled closer to his body and giggled when she felt his long fingers dig into her side. “You’re awake you little minx?” she heard him whisper and Y/N let out a small laugh.
“Take me to bed!” she groaned and pinched him back with a pout in her face and glanced up at him with puppy dog eyes.
He just smiled and Y/N noticed that Thomas took her into his bedroom. “If you think you’ll be sleeping away from me after this weekend? Guess again.” He laughed and gave her a kiss to the forehead.
Watching him walk out of the room, claiming he was going to grab their bags from the car. Y/N nodded her head before curling up under the blanket and grabbing her phone that she had put in the waistband of the leggings she was wearing.
Checking her messages and assuring all her friends and brother that she was back at the Jefferson house safe and sound. She sighed at all the messages Alexander started to send to her. She sent the middle finger to the guy and set her phone down.
Laying there, hearing Thomas talk to his parents, Y/N smiled and thought back to the weekend they shared. The laughter by the beach, walking and buying stupid things for their friends. Dressing up and dressing down, going to shows and having the kiss while they rode the Ferris whee even late night drives, happy to be somewhere where no one knew them. It was a magical weekend and Y/N could only hope that the two would be able to do it again in the summer so they would be able to actually go and swim in the beach and have fun in the sun instead of being cold.

Bubble, bubble, toil, and trouble
Tumblr media
Ok, every single time I see Nick Robertson in a notification on my phone, I think of the anon who keeps requesting I write about him and hope that you’re excited (I have no idea if it’s the same person each time so how ever many people it is I hope you’re all happy).
This one is a little shorter, but I wanted to get it out since it was relevant to what’s going on now (also sorry the leafs went home but you know I’m a Bruins fan y i k e s)
I hope you like this! _____________
“Kasperi Kapanen, Robertson wants the puck, and he scores! Nick Robertson with his first National Hockey League goal! And it is three, nothing, Toronto.”
You started screaming, jumping up and down without a care in the world that you might be waking up your roommate, your neighbors, the people below you, anyone else might hear you ecstatic that your boyfriend just scored his first NHL goal. You can think of nothing else but immediately blowing up his phone with texts about how proud you are of him, recording the replay of his goal and posting in on your snap and insta stories. This was everything he had been working for his entire life, even if you hadn’t known him the entire time. Hopefully, this was the first of many goals, whether it was with Toronto or another team that wanted him.
After the game, the texts on his phone made him smile, especially after losing in overtime, putting them on the brink of going home. One on hand, it would mean going home to see you, but on the other, there was no way he wanted to stop playing in the NHL so soon after he had started. The guys around him weren’t too happy about the loss, either.
“Perk up, bud,” Travis tells him, “It’s one loss. We still have a chance.”
“It’s not the loss,” Nick admits, staring down at his phone. His lock screen, and yours, was a picture the two of you had taken together before the season had started. Over the summer, you went out to his family’s beach house, spending the entire week enjoying the world around you. You were on his back, kissing his cheek while he’s beaming at the camera, even though you couldn’t tell because of his sunglasses. Seeing that picture normally made him happy when he couldn’t see you, but something about tonight, it just wasn’t the same.
“Is it my sister?” Nick nods, staring at the picture. What he would give to see you in person right now. “I get it. I miss my girl and my dog, too. Everyone misses someone.”
Nick looks up at Travis, immediately looking back down at this phone. The two of you looked so much alike, just looking at your brother made him crazy. “I just never imagined my first playoffs would be in a bubble like this. I never thought my first NHL games would be like this.”
Travis nods, looking at the kid’s face. He understood what it was like to be away from family, hell he even missed you. Nick definitely had it harder than any of the other guys; he was the youngest in the playoffs, he just scored his first goal and couldn’t celebrate with the people he cared about, and he didn’t know if he was going to end his NHL debut in the next game or not.
Nick was one of the first ones out of the locker room that night. None of the guys were in the mood to celebrate, even if he did just score his first professional goal, and all he wanted to do was go back to his room and Facetime you.
“Alright boys, we have a rookie to cheer up,” Travis says to the remaining guys in the locker room.
-----------
“Babe, I am so proud of you!” you practically screech at the sight of his face on your phone.
You had been facetime each other nightly, trying to keep up with each other as much as possible. With him in the bubble and you on summer break, not much really happened other than you two just sitting on the phone while you watched the same thing on Netflix. Not that either of you cared; it was the closest thing to being with each other that you could have for who knows how long?
“Thanks,” he says, halfheartedly. He was right in Toronto, in the same city as you, and yet he still felt so far away from you. He knows that if the two of you were able to be together, then you would be going out right now to celebrate. You would have been at the game, not watching it from the TV, on what was probably some sort of broadcast delay.
“Nick, what’s wrong?” you could tell her was upset, he wasn’t the best at hiding his emotions. He just scored his first goal, he should be so happy.
“I just miss you,” he says, not looking at you.
The pain in his voice was heartbreaking. You miss him, too, of course, but him hearing that would just make it hurt even more, wouldn’t it? “I miss you, too. Hell, I even miss Travis. But look at it this way: the longer you’re there, that means the more you’re playing, and the closer you guys are getting to that cup. Next year when you’re on the roster, you’re going to be traveling all the time. Look at this as practice for when you do that.”
As you’re giving him your mini-lecture, Travis and some of the other guys start blowing up a group chat you didn’t know you were in with them. “Give me one sec?” He nods, going back to watching whatever episode of Supernatural you were on. The boys had a plan, and somehow you think it was going to work.
“Everything alright?” you hear him ask as your phone continues to ding with instructions from Travis and Mitch. Somehow, they were the ones in charge.
You switch back to Nick, the stream of texts still flowing. “Yeah, everything is perfect.”
Seeing the smile on your face, he couldn’t help but smile back. “I wish I were with you.”
“Yeah, but that would mean you weren’t doing what you love. I would rather you be playing. And scoring the first of what will be many goals.”
----------
The next night, the boys were playing again. Losing this game meant that they would be going home the next morning, their bid for the cup on hold until the next season, whenever that start date may be. Win this game, play do or die on Sunday. Lose, and go home.
Lose, and go home. That sounded so good to Nick, if he had to be honest. He loved to play, but being in the bubble for this long was way harder than he imagined it would be. He wasn’t focusing at all during the game. The only time he wasn’t thinking about you was when he was actually on the ice.
Lost this game, and he gets to see you tomorrow.
But win this game, and he has to wait. And that means he gets to play more hockey, bringing him closer to the cup.
Auston ends up scoring the game winning goal in overtime, sending the series to game 5. The Leafs had a history of pushing a first round series to the very last game. They just hoped that this time they actually moved past this round instead of exiting early.
The boys in the locker room were screaming, celebrating that they survived another day in the bubble. Travis tried everything to get Nick to celebrate with them; all of their teammates did. He knew that once he got back to his room, everything would be alright.
“Come on! Live a little! We’re here until Sunday at least. And you can still facetime my sister, you have all day Saturday to text her and call her when we aren’t practicing, and I’m pretty sure you have at least seven thousand photos of her on your phone. Plus, I can get my mom to send me some baby pictures if you really want those,” Travis tells Nick, wrapping his arm around the young player as he sulks back to his room.
“I should be happy. I just miss Y/N.”
“Yeah, I know. I told you I know. But I think that once you get back in your room, everything will be alright.”
The look on his face slightly worried Nick. You had been acting weird after you had paused him that first time last night, switching back and forth between his face and something else on your phone, but you wouldn’t tell him what. And you had been nearly radio silent today. What if you were cheating on him while he was in the bubble? Is that something you would do?
He opens his door, Travis not leaving as Auston and Mitch for some reason join up with them. This was weird, right? Nick could have sworn that he had turned off the lights and the TV in his room when they left for the game, yet both were on. “Oh my god!” he yells when he sees you sitting on the bed.
You practically jump off the bed and into his arms, him hugging you like he was never going to let you go again.
“How are you here?” he asks. He can feel himself starting to cry, but not in front of the guys. He was just so happy you were actually here.
“I kind of have a great brother,” you say once he puts you down. The three boys are beaming behind you, even though Mitch and Travis were the ones who did everything, Auston was more just in the chat just to be included.
“We convinced some people to let her in,” Travis admits. “Now let me hug my sister, you get her all night.”
He pries you away from Nick, even though the last thing he wanted to do was let you ago. But he had to let you hug Travis. Hell, he wanted to hug Travis. They somehow managed to get you into the hotel just so you could spend a night with him.
“Ok, now. Get out,” you say to Travis, wriggling free from Travis and walking back over to Nick. He wraps his arms around you, planting a kiss on your forehead as he forgets that the other guys are even there. “I want to spend the night with my boyfriend, not my brother.”
“I can’t believe you’re here,” he says once his three teammates leave. He owed them big time, but that was a problem for a later date.
“Well, I missed you, and they said they could get me into the hotel, following other rules which I didn’t question, but hey, we’re going to go with it,” you say.
He pulls you in for a kiss, never wanting it to end. If only you could stay in the bubble with him forever.

Day 1: Long Story Short It Was The Wrong Guy (AGAIN)
After nearly a year of being miserable after my ex and I broke up, and about 8  overlapping months of attempting to date, I finally met someone.
He seemed genuinely nice.  He met me at my neighborhood park and we walked his dog, around and around and around for probably a couple hours.  We talked nonstop- about 90% of the conversation was about our dogs.  We left and he hugged me goodbye (I turned to the side because- COVID- and I wasn’t expecting it... but it turns out he was vaccinated already) and said we’d do it again.
The next time he came to my house, met my dogs, and we walked his dog around my neighborhood. My dogs aren’t up for more than about a half a mile walk, so they stayed at home.  We talked and talked, we ended up back at the house before we were finished, so we re-walked half of the route, then walked part of the neighborhood beside mine.  By the time we got back, we still weren’t finished talking, but it was getting late.  We attempted the hug again.  He was vaccinated, I was going to be vaccinated the next month.  His dog lunged when we were going in for the hug and it ended up being kind of a 101 Dalmatians, tangled hug moment.  It was funny and a but awkward, but definitely memorable.
He said we’d do it again.
Then he asked me to go to his apartment so he could cook for me; he called it a date.  It was a little fast, but I made the hour long drive and went over for shrimp and fake meat tacos.  We also watched a movie.  It was nice.  He kissed me on the way out.  It was sweet.  I wasn’t sure that I wanted it to happen so soon, but I left with butterflies.
The next few dates alternated between him coming here to do outdoorsy things and me going to his apartment for a meal and a movie.  It was beginning to feel like a real relationship.
Over the next 5 months, he introduced me to all of his friends and we went to game nights together, coordinated to play video games with his friends when I went over, attended his friend’s post elopement wedding party, and he had me sign the photo matte that they had in place of a guest book.  It felt real, it felt solid, it felt like it would be long term and like he really cared about me.  It felt like the opposite of what I had with my ex.
He had me meet his dad.  He came over and met my family.  He said he’d go to Disney with me and he asked me to go skiing with him and his family.  He said he loved the beach and that it was his favorite place to go- so I anticipated multiple beach trips over the summer.  He listened to Taylor Swift with me, we watched dumb movies together, went grocery shopping and made Target runs together- aka “couple shit” as he called it.  I loved it.  I never got to do everyday couple activities with my ex.  He’d cook for me, I’d cook for him, he’d make random Taco Bell stops for me and he knew my order.
A few weeks ago, I finally decided to open up to him about some of my anxiety and worries.  I thought that the person I’d gotten to know over the last few months would be a person I could talk to and be real with- something I could never do with my ex unless I wanted to be judged and then ignored about it.  He listened, and attempted to offer a helpful response- which wasn’t really helpful, but he TRIED.  That was much more than I’d ever gotten from my ex.  A few days later, I went over to his apartment for the night.  We had dinner, it was off.  The conversation was off.  The movie was uncomfortable- like we were just sitting through it to get it over with.  He went to bed early but I was so wide awake that I sat in the living room playing on my phone and watching the storm outside for another 3 or 4 hours so I wouldn’t toss and turn in bed and keep him up sine he had to work in the morning.  In the morning, I had to drive home at 7am on only a few hours of sleep. I was cranky from that and the way the previous evening had panned out.
I laid in bed for a bit and snuggled his dog.  She’s so sweet.  She loves me and I love her-- so do my boys.  I laid there thinking “this feels like it might be the last time I ever see her...  so I just scratched her head and took a photo to remember the moment.
The goodbye was awkward, and I texted him when I got home and apologized for acting weird the night before and that morning.  I told him things felt off for some reason and laid out some things that were on my mind.  I thought open communication would be a good thing and that it would help him to understand my headspace and show him that I felt comfortable enough with him to talk to him  about these things.
The next week, he avoided hanging out with me.  The week after that, same story.  I asked him to come to a concert with me on a Sunday night- he said he’d love to if it wasn’t on a Sunday.  Then I asked him about another concert on the following Tuesday night- I jokingly asked him to play hooky from work and come with me.  He said he couldn’t- but I understood that; it made sense. I went out of town for the weekend to visit my brother and he said that we’d plan time to get together once I returned.  I returned and he mentioned nothing about getting together.  I brought it up once and he didn’t acknowledge it, but he still talked to me, just a lot less than usual.
The conversations we were having sounded like repeats of previous conversations- and I honestly don’t know if he didn’t remember telling me some of those things, but he liked to partake in a beer or two or three... pretty frequently- so I’m not certain that some of the time he talked to me, he wasn’t 100% there.  But that wasn’t the point- he was just sending me pleasantries and fillers as texts. No real conversation.
I started getting worried because my mind went to the worst possibility.  He was checking out.  We were done- or almost done.  I asked him if we were good because it seemed like we weren’t.  He said he was good and that work was just really rough lately and he was basically working and sleeping all the time.  All of my worries melted away and I instantly felt a sense of relief-- I had been worrying for nothing!  So I asked him if he had time for an evening hangout on Friday or Saturday or a different night if those didn’t work.  I’d come to him and bring food and we could watch a movie and veg out for a bit.
That was last night.
This morning I woke up early to go to a sunflower field to take some fun summer photos.  With covid apparently flaring up again, I was trying to find safe summer activities to do before the season’s over.  Since I couldn’t get my guy to go with me to basically anything, I decided I’d do the things he didn’t want to do with me on my own and do the other things with him.  It wasn’t so much a compromise as it was me just learning to be okay with having someone who didn’t want to take part in activities with me.  My mom went with me an we got some gorgeous photos.  I kept an eye on my phone expecting him to reply to my hangout request, because once he said yes- I’d also ask him to go with me to visit my brother in a couple weeks an have a fun beach weekend.
On the way home, I went through the drive thru at the bank and while I was waiting, I noticed my phone blinking.
It was a text.  From him.
I don’t think we’re a good match for each other.  There has been numerous occasions where you’ve said or done something (even in the name of “joking”) that hasn’t sat right with me.  I’m sure there have been times you felt the same about me as well.  I don’t want to waste any more of your time either.  I hope you find a man who is a better match for you.
First of all, what the actual fuck.  Secondly, there *have* been numerous occasions.  Third- I have no idea what I said or did...  Best I can muster is that since I’m pro equal rights and pretty liberal, maybe it came across as offensive because I think he has family members who are... trump-esque.  I barely brought up politics because I didn’t want to make things weird.  He is a cop and I never made jokes unless he did first (he’d regularly joke about cop stuff and talk about how he isn’t a typical cop and how he doesn’t like hanging out with other cops or doing cop stuff or even talking about cop stuff outside of work.)  He gave me a whole spiel about he’s not a “cop cop” when we first met, like he was trying to sell himself to me-- which  he didn’t need to do, but I thought it was cute.
I asked him if we could talk for a few minutes later in the day because I wasn’t understanding what was happening.  I told him that I wasn’t trying to change his feelings about anything, but I wanted to talk.  He totally blindsided me.
He never responded.
It’s basically midnight and he’s had most of the day to respond.  Five months and he can’t even give me an explanation.
This is what I get for trying to trust people.
Tomorrow- or later tonight- I’m sending one last text and blocking him.  He knew that’s how my ex ended things and how insensitive it was and how wrong it was.  We had this conversation.  And after five months, he just strings me along for the last few months and then ends things with a text.  So goddamn insensitive.
I know I’m better off without someone like him in my life, but this hurts so much more than the last time because at least my first ex was a jerk and it was on brand for him.  This one... my second ex... he was supposed to be better than this.  He was supposed to be nice.  He wasn’t supposed to hurt me, not like this.

Heatstroke - chapter 6
Tumblr media
Let’s pretend the lake is clean and in no way full of leeches...
[AO3]
x
The events of Saturday evening had left Gold conflicted. Throwing a drink over Lacey had initially made him feel a sort of smug satisfaction, but on the journey home he began to experience a twinge of regret. He rarely lost his composure, even in the face of extreme provocation, and he was uncomfortable with the idea of someone getting under his skin so much that it caused him to act out of character. Ordinarily he would have returned home and drunk a couple of whiskies while reading a good book, but instead he packed an overnight bag, along with a few food items, and drove out to the cabin that he owned in the midst of the woods. A night away from Storybrooke, and the memories of recent awkward interactions, would be welcome.
The cabin was as cool and restful as always, and he made himself a small meal of bread, cheese and sliced apples, eaten with a glass of cold white wine out on the back porch overlooking the lake. Insects buzzed in the air, but the citronella candles kept them away from him for the most part. Gold took a sip of wine, thinking over his altercation in the bar.
Knowing the young woman’s first name made it easy to make some enquiries into her identity, and he had made one or two phone calls while he sat there, and done a couple of online searches until he had some answers. Her name was Lacey French, she was twenty-six, and she had moved to Storybrooke from New York to take up a journalist post with the Storybrooke Mirror. Quite why she wanted to pursue journalism in a small town rather than the city was unclear, and Gold had learned to be suspicious of anomalies. His wealth and power had made him enemies, and while he knew that everything he did was entirely legal—one of the reasons he had so little patience with those that failed to honour their agreements—that didn’t stop people looking for something that wasn’t there. She didn’t appear to be poking her nose in anywhere it didn’t belong so far, though. Unless you counted his back garden.
He set down his glass, using his forefinger to pick up crumbs of cheese and eat them. Whatever the reason Miss French was in Storybrooke, it was probably nothing to do with him. He just needed to ignore her as best he could, and hope she ignored him in turn. The last thing he needed was to lose his head over a beautiful woman.
Gold blinked, straightening up, his heart thumping. Where the hell did that thought come from? Okay, she’s beautiful, anyone can see that - anyone who isn’t blind, anyway - but she’s a bloody disaster! I am absolutely not losing my head over her! I’m not losing anything! Except maybe my dignity.
He shook his head, pushing the plate away and drinking the last of his wine. Time to go to bed before his imagination really got him in trouble.
x
Sunday was Gold’s day to unwind. It was the one day he kept the shop closed, and used the time to catch up on jobs in the house, or to read and relax. The previous Sunday, he had decided to sunbathe in the garden, but given how that had ended, he was pleased that he had chosen to come to the cabin. It was a welcome retreat into nature and solitude, and waking up to the sound of birdsong and the whisper of leaves was soothing to a mind that was constantly thinking and planning and fretting. He threw back the covers, walking through to the kitchen and putting on a pot of coffee. The early morning sunshine was already sending dappled light through the trees, and he left the coffee brewing, walking out onto the back porch and breathing deeply. The air was beginning to lose the chill of the night, and Gold looked out over the lake that lapped at the wooden decking at the foot of the steps. It was cool and tranquil, and looked inviting, so he went inside to grab a towel, taking off the loose pants he slept in and walking naked to the back door and down to the lake
Cold water was an invigorating shock to warm skin, and his head burst through the surface, tendrils of weed stroking his shoulders like a lover’s caress. Gold swam across the lake and back in long, slow strokes, enjoying the weightlessness of his body in the water, his leg relieved of the pain of standing. A dip in the lake, followed by a hot shower and a pot of good coffee. It was a good way to start the day.
After a few lengths he swam back to the deck and climbed out of the lake, water pouring off his body and his skin tingling from the chill. The wooden boards of the deck felt warm in comparison, and he grasped the towel and drew up his knees, drying himself off quickly before towelling his hair. Dappled sunlight provided a little warmth, and he grabbed the cane and pushed to his feet, looking out over the lake again and enjoying the feel of the light breeze against his naked skin. He closed his eyes, inhaling deeply and drawing the clean scent of the forest into his lungs, and felt a sense of peace steal over him.
“Oh my God!”
Gold’s eyes flew open, and he almost stumbled and fell before he found his balance, his hand getting a death grip on the cane handle. Across the lake, staring at him incredulously, was the lithe figure of Lacey French. She was dressed in a pair of purple running tights and a matching crop top, her hair tied up on her head and her chest heaving with either exertion or outrage. Possibly both.
“I don’t fucking believe this!” she announced, gesturing at him.
“What are you doing?” he snapped, and she put her hands on her hips.
“Duh? I’m running?” She flapped her hands up and down herself before pointing an accusing finger at him. “Why are you naked? Again!”
“Why are you here?” he demanded, jabbing a finger at his feet.
“You do realise there’s a trail here, right?” she said, and wrinkled her nose at him. “Are you gonna cover up, or what?”
Gold had been thinking about wrapping the towel around himself, but at her words he clenched his jaw and met her eyes insolently, leaning on the cane a little harder and letting his hip swing outward. The movement made his cock bounce.
“Oh, man!” Lacey shielded her eyes with a hand and turned away. “I don’t believe this…”
“Why don’t you just keep running, then?” he said waspishly. “I fail to see why I should be inconvenienced on my own property. Again!”
He mimicked her affronted tone, head wobbling from side to side. Lacey turned back to face him, hands going to hips. He watched her eyes flick briefly to his groin and back up.
“Look, Gold, I just went into your damn garden to get my cat back!” she said hotly. “I didn’t know I lived next door to a bloody naturist!”
“So you just thought you’d throw a gin and tonic at my crotch, did you?” he snapped, hand flicking outwards.
“Oh my God, for the last time, it was the cat!” she shouted. “It wasn’t me! He was sitting on the table next to you and he knocked the glass off! I tried to get to him before he could do it but I was too slow! Be mad at me for that if you have to be, but he was the one that threw a drink at your balls, not me!”
Gold had opened his mouth to say something cutting, but closed it again. Oh.
“And the second time, when I did throw a drink at you, you kind of deserved it!” she added, and he found his voice again, feeling himself swell with indignation.
“For fuck’s sake, woman, I didn’t steal your underwear!” he snapped. “I told you!”
She gave him a withering look.
“You expect me to believe my cat went on - on a campaign of taking you my panties?”
“Well, it wasn’t bloody me!” he growled, and she tossed her head.
“Whatever. I’m out of here. Try to stop exposing yourself every five minutes, would you?”
She ran on, buttocks clenching pleasantly, and Gold glared after her.
“I’ll expose myself as often as I like on my own bloody property!” he shouted.
She didn’t look back, and he felt his nostrils flare, fists clenching. Well. Peace shattered.
x
Running with a hangover was a bad idea at the best of times, and coming across her neighbour stark naked didn't help. Still, he had provided an interesting distraction, and by the time Lacey had settled back into her run she could stop being indignant and start to see the funny side of her encounter in the woods. So much so that as she left the trails and joined the road into Storybrooke, she had to stop, doubling over and giggling madly. Wow, I almost feel sorry for the guy. If you can’t get your cock out on your own back porch, where can you?
She was still grinning to herself when she got back to the house, and she went to shower and dress before making herself eggs on toast and coffee and carrying it outside. She ate quickly, hungry from her run, and pushed the plate away before reaching for her coffee. The morning was pleasantly warm, and she thought it would be a hot day. It was fortunate she had gotten out of the door for her run early. In some respects.
Darcy was sunning himself on the grass, black fur tinged with reddish brown in the sunlight. Lacey glanced towards the drying rack where her latest load of laundry was hanging, reminding herself to check it was dry before she went back inside. She took a sip of coffee, enjoying the bitter taste that was mellowed by the cream and sugar she had added. Darcy looked up, catching her eye and getting to his feet before stretching and yawning, his tail curling over. He sauntered towards her, tail in the air, and stopped to sniff at the clean laundry hanging on the rack. Lacey took another sip of coffee. She was watching Darcy with half an eye as she mused over her plans for the day. The kitchen floor needed mopping, and she could unpack the rest of her things that were still in boxes, but other than that her time was her own.
Her attention was caught by Darcy tugging at something, and glanced around, putting down her cup. Her eyes widened as he dragged a pair of coral-coloured lace panties from the rack and trotted off down the garden with them. Lacey bounced out of her chair.
“Hey!” she shouted, heading down the porch steps, and Darcy ran faster.
She put on a burst of speed, but he squeezed through the hole in the fence before she could catch him. Swearing under her breath, Lacey ran around to the front of the house and through to the back garden. At least it was unlikely that Gold would be back anytime soon. She couldn’t see Darcy, and she looked around in vain, hands opening and closing, before a click from behind her made her turn. There was a cat flap in the kitchen door, and Darcy was sitting just outside it, watching her with his tail curled around his feet. There were no panties to be seen, and Lacey threw up her hands.
“You’re killing me!” she complained. “So it was you! And you just let me make a total idiot of myself accusing Mr Gold!”
Darcy bent his head to lick a forepaw, wholly unconcerned, and Lacey sighed.
“Great. So there’s a pair of panties in his house now, is there?” she said. “Well. I guess I’ll have to find some way to apologise. I don’t believe this!”
She scooped up Darcy and stomped off, listening to him purring contentedly against her chest. Anyone would think the little bugger planned this whole thing to embarrass me.

::in which Bakugou and Kirishima are closer than ever, quite literally and figuratively. Bakugou messes up, plans are definitely NOT cancelled, and there is a maybe date happening::
P.S. IM SORRY THIS TOOK SO LONG TO POST. It was a loooong week. I’ve gotten a promotion though, so that was cool! Anywho, I’ll try and be quicker with the updates since I have a lot of my one-shots already half finished:)
P.P.S. I wrote out the whole chapter and apparently it’s exceeded a word count or something so I had to split it into two chapters. I just have to give it a quick edit and I’ll have it up today, hopefully in the next couple hours.
+++++++++++++
Aizawa kept Bakugou for one more night just for observation. He was allowed back to class Tuesday morning.
Kirishima waited outside of his dorm for Bakugou to finish getting ready. He played a game on his phone and leaned against the wall opposite of Bakugou’s door.
He’d only been waiting a few minutes before the door opened and a fully-uniformed Bakugou Katsuki stepped out. He looked well rested and much more like himself than Kirishima had seen him in days. He still had his usual grumpy look, but it put a smile on Kirishima’s face to see it. He’d missed Bakugou so much that having him back felt like a hole had been filled in his chest.
Kirishima didn’t think about what he did next until Bakugou pulled away. The redhead looked down at their hands, dawning on him that he’d just tried to hold Bakugou’s hand. The movement felt so natural, almost like an instinct.
“Oh!” he said, surprised by himself. “I’m sorry, man. That was weird of me. I didn’t even think about it—”
“It’s fine, Shitty Hair,” Bakugou interrupted him. “Here.”
Kirishima watched as Bakugou laced their arms together at their elbows. He had a weird scowl on his face, but he didn’t say anything about it and opted to tug Kirishima along to get him moving. Together, arm in arm, they descended the hall until they reached the elevator.
They didn’t say a word the whole ride down. Kirishima was too lost in his racing thoughts to come up with the right thing to say.
Was Bakugou touch starved? He wasn’t ever the type of guy to initiate any sort of touching. Though, he hadn’t been able to get near anyone in days. On average, at least a few times a day Kirishima would lean on him or put a hand on his shoulder or sometimes even throw him into a surprise hug the blond didn’t see coming. Bakugou had adapted to Kirishima’s fondness. This—having Bakugou as the initiator—was so foreign, Kirishima couldn’t wrap his head around it.
They didn’t let go of each other until they reached the kitchen. Kirishima tossed Bakugou ingredients and utensils as the explosive boy whipped up some egg drop ramen for the two of them.
He usually made more food to include the Bakusquad, but he never bothered with breakfast. The other three were never up early enough.
As it turned out, Kaminari was right: Kirishima had missed Bakugou’s cooking. He wasn’t sure where the blond learned to cook so well, but Kirishima would have given his pal a five star review on Yelp if he could have.
“What did I miss in class?” Bakugou asked after they’d sat down. He was twirling his chopsticks around in his bowl to pick up some noodles.
“Don’t know,” Kirishima answered through a mouthful. He swallowed before continuing. “I didn’t really go to class yesterday.”
Bakugou frowned. He glared at his ramen like he’d just witnessed it murder his cat. “Let’s ask Ponytail for her notes. I’m not asking shitty Deku. His notebook is a fucking mess.”
“Good idea,” Kirishima agreed. “Hey, did you wanna do some extra training after class? The gym is free today. We could work on our special moves like last time.”
Bakugou seemed to be thinking it over. After a moment of considering, he set his chopsticks down. “What if we went to the movies?”
Kirishima stared at him. He’d said it in such a soft voice, Kirishima knew he was being serious. “The movies? Over training? That doesn’t sound like you.”
He glared in return. “Do you want to or not, Shitty Hair?”
He laughed. “Yeah, totally! Was there a movie you had in mind?”
Bakugou picked his chopsticks back up and was using the utensils to play with his food. Kirishima couldn’t help thinking he looked shy. His cheeks were the slightest hint of pink. “There’s that action movie… I know you like those.”
Kirishima perked up at that. “Really? You’re talking about the one where those two guys have to duel for the dojo after their master is killed, right?”
“The only cheesy-as-hell action movie in the theaters right now, yes.”
“Dude, I’ve wanted to watch that forever! It didn’t do great in the box office, but I think it looks great! You really want to sit through that for me? That doesn’t seem like your kind of movie.”
He finally stood to take his bowl to the sink. “I just want to get out. I’ve spent the last four days staring at white walls.” He nodded his head to Kirishima’s empty bowl, who got the message and passed it over.
“I’m down for the movie, one-hundred percent! And, hey—maybe this weekend we can go hiking? That should help get you out of your own head.”
He hummed in response. “There was that new trail we could try.”
“Oh! Yeah, I remember that. We wanted to go last time, but it was getting too dark so we didn’t get the chance. How’s your schedule look? I’m free all weekend!”
He finished up washing their dishes and deposited them onto the drying rack. “Let’s go Saturday. My shitty aunt is in town this weekend, so I can avoid her at least then. I have some stupid family dinner my parents are making me go to on Sunday if… uh, if you wanna go.”
Kirishima cocked his head. “To your family dinner? You want me to go? Would I be intruding?”
Bakugou leaned against the counter and folded his arms. “No. If you’re there I might actually act ‘civil’ is how my old hag put it. You can sleep over too, if you want.”
Kirishima’s eyes sparkled. A sleepover? At Bakugou’s house?! He’d been over a few times, and he loved being able to spend the extra time with his hot-headed friend. But a sleepover? His heart nearly leapt out of his chest.
“Hell yeah! You usually head home Friday nights, right? What time should I be around Saturday to head on the hike?”
“Just come home with me Friday. Then we can leave early.”
Holy. Shit.
Two whole nights with Bakugou. He felt like his brain was about to short circuit.
His moms wouldn’t like him not visiting over the weekend, but they would understand. He talked pretty highly of Bakugou to his parents, so they would know how much this meant to him.
He pumped his fists together. “Alright! A guys’ weekend! This is gonna be great, man! We can watch movies and play video games, and I’m gonna get you to stay up past eight-thirty!”
Bakugou snorted. “Then I’ll make sure to wake you up by six in the morning.”
“No!” Kirishima gasped. “That’s just cruel, man.”
Bakugou smirked and grabbed his book bag, then headed for the door. Kirishima jumped up to follow.
Class was extra boring today, and Kirishima couldn’t pay attention to a word of his lessons. The day dragged on, probably because he had the movies with Bakugou to look forward to.
Finally, the bell rang for lunch. He and the squad moved out while Bakugou stayed back to collect the homework assignments he missed yesterday. He’d catch up with them after.
They were all seated at their usual table, Ashido chatting everyone’s ears off. Kirishima zoned out staring out the window at the lawn when the pink-haired girl brought him back down to earth.
“Kiri? Babe. Earth to Kirishima.”
He smiled sheepishly. “Sorry. My head is all over the place today.”
He hadn’t even realized Bakugou sat down beside him. The blond was giving him a weird look as he popped open his bento box.
“So!” Kaminari exclaimed, catching everyone’s attention. “I had this idea—”
“Oh shit,” Bakugou muttered loud enough for everyone to hear.
Kaminari glared at him while everyone else laughed. “Anyway. Wouldn’t it be such a good idea if we challenged Bakugou and Sato to a cook off? Our class chef versus our class baker. It'd be epic!”
“I love it!” Ashido announced.
Sero looked into the distance dreamily. “Think about all the leftover food.”
“I don’t bake,” Bakugou stated. “I don’t do sweets. And Sugar Freak is a shit cook. Wouldn’t be much of a challenge.”
“Well, we can have you both whip up something as a main dish and then a dessert to follow,” Ashido suggested. “We could vote whose meal was better.”
Bakugou didn’t look impressed. He stuffed a chunk of beef into his mouth and ignored the rest of the conversation.
“What if we did it tonight? Everyone’s free, right?”
Kirishima whipped his head up from his meal to face Kaminari. “Not tonight, man. We’ve got homework to catch up on, and Bakugou and I were going to catch a movie.”
Everyone’s eyebrows scrunched. They stared between the two boys like this was weird behavior of them.
“The movies?” Ashido asked, her expression shifting to something more mischievous. “Like, just the two of you? Alone?”
“You annoying shitsticks aren’t coming, so don’t even ask,” Bakugou said in his grumpy voice.
Kaminari raised a devilish eyebrow. “So… is this like… a date?”
Kirishima felt his ears grow hot. “No! No, it’s not like that! We’re just two bros going to the movies! Right, Katsuki?”
He looked over to the blond, who had a death grip on his chopsticks. His face read pure rage, but there was a blush crawling up his neck and cheeks. It seemed to worsen at the use of his given name. The chopsticks snapped in his grip.
“KATSUKI?!” Ashido practically screamed. “He lets you call him by his given name?”
The other two boys were dying at this point. They clutched their stomachs as they busted out laughing, tears sparkling in their eyes. Sero slapped a hand on the table. “Oh my god! I can’t breathe!”
Bakugou slammed his own fists against the table and stood. “FUCK YOU GUYS, WE’RE OUT OF HERE! COME ON, SHITTY HAIR! LET’S GO.”
Kirishima stood on wobbly legs, his meal forgotten as his mind reeled. He chased after Bakugou, a million questions racing through his brain he couldn’t seem to vocalize. Was this a date? If it wasn’t, wouldn’t Bakugou have corrected them? If it was, why’d he get so defensive?
Bakugou turned around and grabbed Kirishima by the elbow to speed him up. They must have been too loud, because half the cafeteria’s eyes were watching them as they left.
They made it back to the classroom, and Bakugou’s grip hadn't let up. He finally let go when he moved to his desk and sat down heavily. He crossed his arms and turned his face away from Kirishima.
“Uh,” Kirishima tried to form words, but he wasn’t sure what to say. “Should we talk about this?”
“No,” he answered quickly.
“Well, that seemed to really bother you back there. If you were thinking—”
“I don’t want to talk about it, Eijirou.”
Kirishima could see the angry blush on his face when he glanced back at the redhead. Kirishima settled into the desk beside his. “Alright. You still want to go though, don’t you?”
He huffed. “Yeah, we’re still fucking going.”
His lips spread into a smile. “Glad to hear it! I can’t wait.”
The two broke out their homework after that, attempting to get caught up before the rest of the class slowly trickled back in. To Kirishima’s surprise, it was Bakugou who was having trouble focusing.
Class started up again, and Kirishima had to migrate back to his own desk. A worksheet was passed out by Midnight, and they were told to fill out what they could. Kirishima was only a few questions in when he glanced Bakugou’s way out of habit.
Midoriya was leaning forward, whispering something to Bakugou, who looked his usual amount of annoyed. It was when the green-haired boy reached out to tap Bakugou’s shoulder that chaos ensued.
Kirishima shot from his desk and across the room before most students even noticed anything was wrong. Everything happened so fast, even Kirishima’s brain had to play catch up.
Bakugou had snapped. In an instant, he’d had Midoriya pinned to the floor, slashing at his face with the claws that weren’t there. Midoriya was obviously caught off guard, but he was still fast enough to hold his arms up to shield his face from Bakugou’s attacks.
Kirishima tackled Bakugou off of his rival, using his hardening to pin him down. Bakugou was uncharacteristically hissing like some wild animal. Sero and Tokoyami were out of their seats now too, ready to help if they could.
“Katsuki!” Kirishima yelled, trying to snap the blond back to reality. “Katsuki, stop! It’s me! It’s Eijirou!”
Midnight stood above the boys, her hand resting on her sleeve and ready to tear it to put Bakugou to sleep with her quirk. Kirishima quickly shook his head at her. “Don’t! That won’t help.”
Bakugou’s movements became sluggish and he was blinking hard, quicly coming back to his senses. Kirishima watched as realization dawned in his eyes. He looked between Kirishima on top of him to Midoriya on the ground a few feet away. “Shit,” he cursed.
“Kacchan, I’m sorry!” Midoriya apologized. “I didn’t know the quirk hadn’t worn off yet. I shouldn’t have touched you. Kacchan, I’m so sorry!”
“Don’t fucking apologize to me, damn nerd!” he shouted in return. He growled in frustration. “I thought this shit was over.”
“It’s alright, man,” Kirishima sighed, relieved to have Bakugou back. He slid off of the blond and sat on the floor, rubbing the back of his neck. “Midoriya, you okay?”
“I-I’m fine!”
“Ahem,” Midnight cleared her throat. She had her hands on her hips and an unimpressed look on her face. “Could someone tell me what’s going on?”
“After effects,” Todoroki was the one to explain to Kirishima’s surprise. “It seems the quirk hasn’t quite worn off.”
“I’m fine now,” Bakugou grumbled. “It’s gone.”
“I highly doubt—”
“It was a fluke!”
“Guys!” Kirishima raised his voice to get them to stop. Bakugou glared at him for his interruption. Kirishima ignored the look and turned back to the other student still on the floor. “Midoriya, why don’t you swap seats with me for today?”
Midoriya nodded, finally pulling himself off the ground. “Good idea.”
Bakugou caught Kirishima’s wrist before he could stand as well. “I don’t need a damn babysitter.”
“I’m not babysitting you,” the redhead fired back. “My quirk is best suited to stop you if it happens again, which I doubt it will. Just a precaution, man.”
Midnight was tapping her foot, arms folded as she stared the two down. “Are you boys sure this is such a good idea?”
“Yes,” they said in unison. They looked at each other, and Bakugou bowed his head to allow Kirishima to finish. “He’ll be fine. It won’t happen again, and I’ll be there to stop him before it could happen again.”
She clicked her tongue. “Alright. I’ll allow it. Don’t make me regret it. And there had better not be any more interruptions.”
Everyone migrated back to their seats and the light chatter died off. Kirishima and Midoriya collected their things and traded seats. Once he was seated, Kirishima noticed a folded up piece of paper on the corner of the desk.
He opened it as quietly as he could, but Midnight seemed pretty preoccupied by the romance novel her eyes were glued to. It was definitely Bakugou’s handwriting, all caps and angry penmanship.
THANK YOU EIJIRO. YOU’ RE A GOOD FRIEND
Kirishima smiled. Bakugou really had grown so much in his time since coming to UA. Kirishima was so proud to be the explosive boy’s friend.
It’s cool ! Don’t sweat it man . Still wanna see that movie tonight ??
He tossed the note over Bakugou’s shoulder, who jumped a little like he was surprised to see it return. Kirishima could hear his pencil scrawling out a reply.
He passed it back, his eyes on Midnight to avoid being caught passing notes.
STILL THINK IT’S A GOOD IDEA?
Totally !! I wanna spend time with you dude
He chewed on his lip. Maybe that was a little too forward. He ended up erasing that bit and starting over.
Yeh man I think it’d be good for you to get out . Being cooped up for days isn’t good for ya
Bakugou held onto the note for a few minutes, maybe contemplating what to say. Kirishima tried to focus on his assignment, but it proved impossible and he ended up circling random answers.
Bakugou twisted his arm behind his back and held the folded note between two fingers. Kirishima plucked it from his grasp and unfurled it again.
COME TO MY ROOM AFTER YOU’RE READY TO GO. WE’RE GONNA GET DINNER FIRST SHITTY HAIR.
Kirishima giggled, and a few heads turned his way. He was too excited to care about the prying eyes or the blush that rose to his cheeks.
He couldn’t help but think about how date-like this seemed. He didn’t want to get his hopes up, but… well.
He couldn’t help it.
