Gotta say I’m really not a fan of the wave of “LIKES DO WORK. HOW DARE FAN CREATORS ASK FOR MORE REBLOGS” stuff I’ve been seeing.
“☝️🤓 um, actually Tumblr has an algorithm, you just have all the options turned off” okay, and I am not the only person to have all those options off. Saw a post saying the algorithm features aren’t used by the long term user base…..so….how are they gonna find my stuff if no one reblogs? How am I going to reach them with my content? Tag them? DM them? If I’m only getting likes on my stuff how am I going to reach the user base that has the algorithm features turned off? I’d love to hear this explanation because I can guarantee it’ll have the word reblogs in it.
“You should create for yourself” I do….and the stuff I create for myself never sees the light of day because it’s for me. There’s two friends who will hear about the idea I’m sitting on but that idea will never hatch and will never be seen by anyone else because it’s for me. If I’m posting it it’s for others to see.
“Users use likes as bookmarks to come back to it later” so you mean to tell me they aren’t even looking at my work they are just liking it and might not even come back to it because it got buried in all the other stuff they “liked and saved for later”
Likes might do something but they really don’t help content creators. And I don’t mean the content “creators” who use AI to fuel their blogs, I mean the people who put their heart and soul into some art or a fanfic or whatever the hell else and have no one reblogs it or comments on it.
And before you say content creators bitch too much about not getting interactions tell me how often your hard work is recognized at school or work, how often someone tells you that you did good. And then tell me how mad you’d be if no one ever recognized your efforts. Because it’s the same thing. Likes on tumblr don’t even mean someone actually liked the content they liked. People saying likes do something never take that into account. They might add to the algorithm but again, a lot of the user base don’t use those features and a “book mark like” or accidental like doesn’t mean the person actually liked or saw the content so why would the creators stuff being added to their algorithm do anything if they didn’t look the first time?
Don’t get me wrong with all this, Content creators love getting likes but when it’s the only thing we get it’s very disheartening and then we stop creating because why bother if no one cares. Like the root of what content creators want with reblogs and comments is a little fucking human connection with the people who are looking at our stuff. Why are y’all “LIKES ARE ENOUGH” folks so upset about that?
#rant#rant post#content creator#reblogs and comments are the best because they provide a little more human fucking connection#I hope I piss someone off with that last scentence because it’s exactly what’s happening#and I want you to feel called out about your lack of human connection
