I recently read in a youtube video that a person who worked for mixing in snl and other shows once said how yk people like adele has her mic fully up and have the backup singers barely doing a lot. Then there is taylor who has her mic kinda turned down and the backup singers have their mic turned farrr up and they carry a lot of the songs. They mentioned the all to well performance as an example. If you look at her tour, that is the same. Like having idk 6 singers just to sing a song like style is a bit overdone isn‘t it

This SNL skit begins by depicting two women working in a corporate office setting. One says to the other “Hey Karen, I’m sorry you didn’t land that account, you okay?” Karen reassures her she is fine; however, the moment she leaves the room Karen proceeds to play and cry to “Someone Like You” by Adele, a notorious sad girl song. For many, like Karen, listening to sad music when sad can make you feel heard and seen, allowing you to feel the sad, negative emotions and allow them to pass. This can be applicable to those of all ages and in all situations, not simply adults in the workforce. Karen’s coworker comes back unexpectedly and catches her in the act of listening to this song and crying, and shares with Karen that she has just watched the season finale of Friday Night Lights and could use a good cry so Karen hits play once again. Yet another coworker walks in, catching them in the act. This coworker adds her parakeets have been fighting, Karen hits play once again and the three proceed to sing and cry. Lastly, a group of male coworkers walk in upset that they missed the Early Bird Special on Wings. The entire group cries and sings to the sad girl song and in the end, the group feels so much better they all agree to go out and pay for full-priced wings. This shows the positive results of listening to sad music when sad and feeling as though you are not alone, bonding over sadness and over a sad song.

Best of 2020 TV Shows #9: SNL and SNL at Home (NBC)

There’s something to be said about the complexity of having to put on a production even in the midst of the worst moments of the pandemic.

Case in point New York and the famous show that goes live from it.

Yeah April and New York was not a good time.

But the good folks at SNL did manage to do the unthinkable and put on 3 enjoyable shows with the cast in houses actually entertaining the crap out of us with whatever they had lying around.

Tom Hanks kicked it off

Brad Pitt gave us the highlight as Fauci himself predicted.

Kenan brought his chops.

Kate McKinnon as the late great notorious RGB

And even weekend update had its fair share of moments of genius even though che and Jost were not in the room together.

Such as Pete Davidson and an unfortunate phrase being coined.

But New York did welcome them back in October and we got some welcome moments concerning the election as well.

The irony of trump getting sick.

An amazing monologue by bill burr.

And the welcome passage of presidential torchers from Baldwins Trump to the rising duo of Jim Carrey and Maya Rudolph’s Biden and Kamala.

Plus it’s always fun to watch Questlove slap somebody.

SUM 22: The champions of the home lockdown became SNL and the amazing creative mindsets they put on with only what they had around them.
