I just saw ur post about how you draw Dick with braces to indicate he is 15-19 years old, and how that was prime discowing era and????? I know NOTHING about the comics but Discowing was THAT young?????? Oh god I've been mocking it so much but rememering how I dressed at that age I gotta give him props for making a choice but oh my god that threw me into a little crisis (love your art btw, very cute)

Ohhh no I've misguided you a bit I fudge with dicks age a bit bc I personally think it makes more senses time line wise that dick would become Nightwing at 16/17 but canonically Dick became Nightwing at about 18/19 which tbh I personally still think the outfit makes sense at that age I've never known an 19 year old with much sense in them it's prime "I'm adult now" where you don't realise there's still a lot of stuff you don't realise and your about to make some of the worst choices of your whole life in the span of 12 months

I finally get to see our Tavs together!!!

Brie (@snailcommando) is a half-orc paladin, and Hyacinth is a half seldarine/half lolth-sworn drow bard. They're in a polycule with Astarion and Gale, and I'm constantly rotating all of them in my head like a microwave, thinking of how to cause them more pain.

Procrastinated on doing this because I don't have any new or good pictures of my Tavs and I'm currently away from my computer for a week BUT fuck it I'll just an old shitty picture

I've talked a lot about my girl Sophie, but before Soph was my Tiefling Byron who took me through my first playthrough. I wanna give him some love (screen lines and all sorry everyone, his skin also looks more grey and stony colored in game but im terrible at taking screenshots of my characters aggghhh)

Byron Graylock - Mephistopheles Tiefling - Storm Sorcerer - He/Him - 28

favorite weapon: If an enemy is at 1hp he will not hesitate to smack them upside the head with his quarterstaff just for humiliation points.

style of combat: High mobility and magic. This dude has at least five variations of misty step and fly on hand at all times. Subclass also lets him use gusts of wind to get around.

most prized possession: An old gold compass his stepfather gave him before leaving home.

deepest desire: To travel every corner of Faerun and all the lands of Toril.

guilty pleasure: Cheap wine and tavern gossip.

best-kept secret: Acts a lot more aloof, "above it all", and cool-headed than he actually is.

greatest strength: Ridiculously calm under pressure (on the outside at least).

fatal flaw: Ego ego ego. This man will drag himself through Hell and back to make a point. Stubborn enough to rival Lae'zel.

favorite smell: Salty ocean air and clean linens.

favorite spell or cantrip: Woe, Chain Lightning upon thee.

pet peeve: Wizards who think they know everything because they got their magic by reading a book or two. Also Gale.

bad habit: Judges people too quickly. This man possesses the most patronizing raise of the eyebrow known to man, it's killed at least two people.

hidden talent: Has memorized no less than thirty sea shanties and poems.

leisure activity: Fusses over his appearance in his downtime more than he would like to admit. Reading and sitting by the beach are also favorites.

favorite drink: When he sailed pre-Tadpole, he liked trying exotic teas in different ports. But wine is always good too. Never a big rum guy, despite his seafaring lifestyle.

comfort food: Scallops in lemon and butter.

favorite person: Eventually Astarion, but they started their adventure fucking hating each other. One of the stories he tells people is how Astarion had threatened to murder him no less than three times when they first met. His closest platonic friend in camp was always Shadowheart though.

favored display of affection (platonic and/or romantic): Not a big PDA guy, but in private he likes his hair brushed and/or stroked.

fondest childhood memory: The first time his human stepfather introduced him to people as his son.

all three of them have authority figure trauma. all three of them have complicated relationships to their pasts and the people from them. that’s very vague but here’s where it gets specific

shadowheart and wyll function as the group straight men in act 1. despite shadowheart being much more chaotic than wyll, she at least has clarity of purpose. imagine for me the dynamic of astarion seducing one or both of them. wyll showering him in courtship rituals, shadowheart wanting to bond because she’s lonely. meanwhile wyll and shadowheart discussing circumstances they are frustrated by but ultimately feel they chose. also shadowheart and astarion bitch in elvish when they think the rest of the camp can’t understand them.

fast forward to later. what does intimacy mean to them when they’ve all been robbed of it? shadowheart through memory loss, astarion through autonomy loss, wyll through deliberate isolation by mizora. they’re all relearning it together. both astarion and shadowheart would love to dance. shadowheart and wyll protect astarion from araj and let him choose what he wants to be now. shadowheart and astarion both strive to have wyll break away from mizora.

shadowheart defies shar. this gives astarion the strength to give up ascension. astarion chooses his independence and personhood. this gives wyll the strength to prioritize himself. wyll chooses to love and be open with that love. this gives astarion and shadowheart the strength to love him back.

also can you imagine the look on ulder ravengard’s face when his son comes home with two white haired elf partners, one of whom is a vampire and one of whom is a former sharran assassin.

i think shadowheart/wyll/astarion could be the world's best worst polycule. i hope you see my vision

fave flower: funnily enough, it's not hyacinths but sunflowers (though they rarely ever see them in full bloom with their usual nocturnal schedule)

fave scent: a field of wildflowers, salty sea air

coffee, tea, or hot chocolate: tea, they appreciate the variety there

average sleep hours: 4 hours trancing

dogs or cats: cats (that's why they liked astarion lmao). They also like dogs ofc (love u, Scratch), but cats win out

dream trip: they've traveled quite extensively since they came to the surface, though I think they'd love to go somewhere warm like Calimshan for a bit

amount of blankets: so many, they're always freezing and their main bf Astarion doesn't give off any body heat :(

Random facts:

Pre-Tadpole, they earned their living performing in various Baldurian taverns (like the Blushing Mermaid). They'd either play the lyre, violin or lute, or they'd dance.

Hyacinth left the Underdark when they were almost 40, right before they were supposed to begin training at Arach-Tinilith to become a High Priestess of Lolth.

They have heterochromia, an 'imperfection' that their mother almost killed them over when they were born. The first spell they learned was Disguise Self, to make both of their eyes the same color. Even now, one of their eyes (the red one) is usually hidden behind their hair.

before even getting to the result, this answer was a bullseye for like, 95% of Hyacinth's issues (feeling like they are simply what their mother turned them into, a monster, not really knowing who they are bc they had to hide for so long).

As for the result, it only get worse:

As much as the result's name shocked me tho, the text only partly applies I think. Their main mommy issues are that they're scared they're too much like her, like it says in that answer above, that they are their mother's creature, something rotten to the core and not their own.

Still, their mother probably also never praised Hyacinth for a job well done, or gave any kind of indication that they had done enough, worked hard enough, been cunning and manipulative enough, instilling in them a deep sense of personal failure that has followed them ever since.

Honestly expected the percentage of BG3 to be higher, but I forgot I did also replay all the dragon age and all the Mass Effect games this year, so I guess it makes some kind if sense lol

Also, the steady decline after I lost my fucking mind in August and finished the game in 8 days (only to immediately start my Astarion origin run), and that one time I fired up the game in June bc @snailcommando was getting into it finally

2, 13 and 14?

2. Did you design them with any other characters/OCs from their universe in mind? 

Technically? During Early Access, my first Tavs guardian basically looked like Hyacinth with a different hairstyle, and I liked their design so much that I had to implement it for a Tav. Played them as a cleric of Eilistraee in EA, but they didn't have a backstory yet, or their personality.

I started their run on August 4th and finished the game on August 11th, so I kind of binged through a lot of it, so a lot of their backstory came afterwards lol. But, essentially, they're modeled after my first guardian.

13. How far past the canon events that take place in their world have you extended their story, if at all? 

My friend @snailcommando and I have a whole expanded universe in which Hyacinth, Gale, Astarion and their Tav Brie are all in a polycule (not all romantic/sexual, but still), and we've definitely flashed out a lot of stuff after the game, like them going to Waterdeep together, or Brie and Astarion going to wrangle the vampire spawn in the Underdark etc.

Backstory wise, Hyacinth is almost 300 years old, and I'm still filling that time, but there's already a LOT lol

14. If you had to narrow it down to 2 things that you MUST keep in mind while working with your OC, what would those things be? 

impulsivity. Hyacinth might be almost 3 centuries old, but their worst stat (apart from strength lol) is wisdom for a reason. No common sense to be found here. Tempt them with something dumb, and they'll do it

identity. Hyacinth spent almost a century hiding their face behind Disguise Self spells due to overall hostility towards drow on the surface. As a result, even over a century later, they're still struggling to figure out who exactly they are. It also made them very avoidant, I think? During that time, they could simply cast aside one identity and take on another, so dealing with things that are actually emotionally challenging for them can be hard, and simply makes them wanna run away (see: why have they never tried to see if their brother is still alive, find out what happened to their family, why don't they at least TRY to be a parent to their daughter, etc.)
