something with good protein for your last meal before surgery, some easy finger food type stuff. get some pro biotic yogurt for after like an actimel or something and drink one a day for a while, don't worry too much if you can't finish a full meal or if you're ravenously hungry, surgery is gonna fuck you up in weird ways<3 also don't worry about sticking to "normal" mealtimes fuck that if it's 3 am and you're hungry go eat something you're healing from a major surgery you need it

first and most classically, a good old sunday roast, a good get together meal that's hard enough to fuck up that eating one at grandma's won't give you flashbacks to whatever the fuck people were doing with jelly in the 50-60s

So there’s a flock of Murkrow that recently settled down around my cabin, and they’ve got a rather unsurprising habit of swooping down at me whenever I get too close to the tree that they like roosting in. Problem is, said tree is right in front of my porch. Is there anything I can do, or leave out for them (snackwise) so they know that I don’t want any problems with them, that I just live here too? Or do you think it’s just them wanting to battle my Umbreon and Zorua?

I think they’re likely being territorial, which means they view you as a threat. You can try leaving food out for them, and being the smart Pokemon they are, they should understand that you can cohabitate the same area

4. favorite fic tropes to read?

Not sure if it’s a proper trope exactly, but my favorite thing is reading outsider POV of my ships. I ADORE just catching snippets of my ships going about their lives and seeing how others perceive them. 

Beyond that, I really dig on some of the tropey-est of tropes like “Fake Dating/Marriage Until Oops! It’s Real!” and “There’s Only One Bed/Bed Sharing” and “Enemies to Friends to Lovers” and for no good reason that I can tell, I also enjoy a good Harry Potter Universe Crossover/Transplant. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

13. favorite snack/drink while writing fic?

Hot tea (anything from Earl Grey, to Moroccan Mint, or more herbal flavors, like Hibiscus Lemongrass - I just really like tea, okay?). Snackwise, it’s either dark chocolate pieces, or carrots.  

17. a fic you have always wanted to write?

YEARS ago (probably right after DAO was released, I’d wager?) I started to plot out a Mass Effect/Dragon Age crossover fic that was going to involve an Alliance vessel crash-landing on Thedas, and a pre-Reapers Shepard was going to have to go undercover ala the Star Trek: TNG episode “Who Watches the Watchers” and things were going to spiral out of control fast from there, with her becoming the Hero of Ferelden. My thought had been that mission was going to be how Shepard gained her renown in the Alliance, as opposed to being a War Hero, or the Butcher of Torfan, or the Sole Survivor, and is why she was put forth as a candidate for the First Human Spectre. 

I know that I wanted to explore the effects of the Blight on Shepard off-planet, and her struggles with merging the year she’d spent on Thedas with the rest of her life, and how she’d approach the Reapers as a result, and the impact that her presence might have had on Thedas as a whole. It was...broad and weighty and had the potential to be VERY long and convoluted, and it never got off the ground beyond a hefty outline and a dozen or so pages of an exploratory opening. 

I no longer have any intention of writing it, but I do think about it on occasion. Especially in light of everything that we’ve learned a bout the history of Thedas in DA2 and DAI. (You can probably imagine how excited I was to see both the planet of Thedas referenced in ME3, and the Krogan referenced in DAI :-D) And while I don’t have any plans to write it at present, I am still interested in the concept. 

21. if you could only keep one of your fics in the public domain forever, which would you choose?

Huh. That’s a hard question! If we are going based on popularity alone, it should CLEARLY be “Beating Like a Hammer” as that is far and away the most popular fic that I’ve ever published. And I AM pretty proud of it, as I think it is a pretty soundly written fic. But, I think I might actually go with a much less-read fic of mine called “Into the Shining Sun.”

The premise of which is simple, in that I wanted to explore the origins of The Illusive Man from Mass Effect, specifically, how he ended up with cybernetic eyes. It’s a short piece, and nothing overly special, but it resulted in one of the most touching reviews I’ve ever received on a fic; one that even years later I go back to read because it meant so much to me. (In summary, the review was from the friend of someone whose eyesight had been damaged in a manner similar to what I described happening to TIM in the fic, and the reviewer had read the fic out loud to their friend, and that person had been moved to tears by the story as it had hit home for them in a relatable (but good) way.) 

And that just...it wasn’t the first time I’d ever been told that a story I’d written mattered to someone. It wasn’t the first time I’d ever heard from someone who’d been thankful that I’d put words to paper and shared them because they struck a chord for them or were cathartic in some way. But I think it may have been the first time I really FELT like something I wrote mattered, if that makes any sense? And it impacted me in ways I hadn’t been prepared for, and for that I will always be grateful. And for that reason, I think if I had to pick only one fic, I’d want that fic to stay public forever and always.

Hannibal refuses to buy anything because of all the shit in processed foods. Will gets a 5-hour-energy in his least favorite flavor so he intentionally can't enjoy it and he punishes himself a little. He also scours for that nasty caffeinated beef jerky. Alana either gets a small chocolate bar because she loves chocolate but doesn't want to be too indulgent, or she gets some mixed nuts that are only salted. Abigail gets something fruity and sweet like a popsicle or her favorite soda. She's in it for the nostalgia. Maybe she gets an icee/slurpee if its hot outside. I see her getting cherry flavor. Jack gets unsalted sunflower seeds because Bella is always yelling at him about his blood pressure.

At Rose’s request John actually manages to peel himself from the floor, making a pit stop to his fridge to see if there was anything to offer snackwise on hand. There wasn’t, but he pulled out another two liter of Sprite that he had in an attempt to be a good host.

After putting on slip-ons and his coat he makes his way down the balcony hall to the transportalizer room, leaning against the doorway looking worn and tired. Rose would get a silent half wave whenever she arrived, a small smile all he could muster for her today.

30 Day Thinspo Challenge

Day 15: are you vegan or vegetarian? if so has this helped you lose weight?

i’ve been vegan for like maybe 4-ish years now (i don’t really keep track) and i would say it doesn’t help ME lose weight because i eat a lot of vegan junk. like accidentally vegan things. i eat a lot of fake meats and burritos and stuff and snackwise it’s mostly accidentally vegan snacks.

i know that a lot of people have lost weight going vegan because they do it right but i still eat garbage.

i’ve also tried multiple “diets” i made up since becoming vegan. like i’ve done no high fructose corn syrup. that lasted like 10 months and also didn’t work as fast as i wanted. i did a sugar free diet where i didn’t have any sugar AT ALL for 3 weeks. i could’ve kept going with that one and i regret stopping. kinda pathetic on my part.

the problem i had with these diets is that if i cut something i would just eat more of other things. so it balanced out against me.

but i did all those diets and none of them cut the fat so i’m back here. i’m sick of how i look and how i feel. even though in the last few weeks i’ve only lost 5lbs i feel like eventually i’ll see more progress restricting things i like eating then cutting things out completely

Most of us want peace and joy but there are those who want war or reform. I think those desires have been brought about by lack of structure. They’ve grown restless waiting for a leader and want to do something about it. I can’t really blame them, they’re just going about it the wrong way.” He frowned slightly before looking back to the girl when, after he asked if she needed proof, she laughed.

He couldn’t help a hint of a smile that quickly turned into a grin. “Oh, you like the heavenly sandbox?” He asked with a chuckle and nodded. “It’s very helpful for those who have fallen to get back to Heaven.” 

Cas stood silent as the young girl spoke, listening to her request. He nodded in reply. “Understood. I promise I won’t take you back, and I won’t bring you to the police or let you go back into the system.” He tilted his head curiously when she said it was a big deal and decided to bite. “Oh? Why is it a big deal? You don’t have to tell me right now if you don’t want to. We’ll have some time. But if you’d like to tell me now, you’re more than welcome.” He nodded, and reached out a hand as an offer for her to take it to walk with him.

How do you tell an actual angel that the man who raised you, whose DNA you share is a person who lured many, many women to their deaths with the inclusion of her own mother (who she never knew).

Would an angel judge someone for the sins of their father? The human population certainly did and every time a new school found out who she was, the girl could tell. It was always that look that they gave her. Like they were watching and waiting - trying to figure out if she had the same crossed wires her father did. Waiting for her to prove to them she is just the same. The thing was though - she wasn’t. She saw no point in trying to convince them otherwise - she’d just be moved again anyways.

“My dad did some really bad shit… like really bad and his name was in the news a lot… When they know who I am they don’t look at me the same. They don’t see me, they see him and I’m sick of it…”

Castiel tilted his head a little as he listened to her, nodding at her last words. “I understand. That’s really unfair. I’m not going to ask your father’s name because it doesn’t matter to me. You’re the one I’m looking to take care of, so your name and who you are is all I need to know. You’re free to tell me, of course, if you want to. But you don’t have to. None of that matters with me. Clean slate.” He nodded, and offered his hand again.

“Is there anything you need at the store before we go back to my home? Snacks, drinks, anything?” He needed to ask this because he knew that most of the drinks they had at the bunker were beers or coffee. And he wasn’t sure if Sam would be willing to share his tea. He also didn’t know if the girl liked tea, anyway. “Maybe we should do a little bit of food shopping for dinner..” He frowned, unsure what they had for food in the bunker, either. 

“What would you like for dinner? We can go out to eat somewhere if you’d prefer that, too.” He nodded, offering his hand again as he turned to show where his truck was located. Just because she was much younger than him, she probably didn’t want to hold his hand, he realized, but he held it out anyway just in case because who knew if she would or not?
