Megaten Party Member Tournament Submissions
I don’t know when I’ll close this form yet since I might take a break after the current tournament I’m running. So, I’m planning it now so I can start the tournament or finish my planning once I return.
Rules:
Do not spam the form with just one character, because it will not increase their chances of getting in.
No major spoiler characters. I will allow minor spoilers to slide, but not major spoilers since that will ruin the game for someone playing it for the first time. In case of the event someone playing it for the first time happens to search the game on Tumblr.
No major spoilers in the why explanations either, unless the character is from a game that is over 2 years old.
No characters from non-megaten games/franchises even if they appeared in a crossover, other Atlus games, megaten adjacent games (ex: Maken Shao, Catherine, etc.), or the Atlus staff themselves.
As long they accompany you in battle, they are a party member you can submit even if you can’t control them manually.
No protagonists, unless they appear in another megaten game where they aren’t the main character and are within your party. (Ex: Nahobino, Joker, etc.)
Depending on how submissions are, there might be cap on how many characters from a particular game can appear.
You can submit demons, since they are your party members in a lot of the games. Though they might not be prioritized.
Don’t be mean or harass others submitting different characters and have fun!
The submission form can be found here.

I'm a big fan of your SMT 4 Apocalypse art... not gonna lie I've become a fan of Asahi/Toki because of it. You have any headcanons to share for the pair?
First of all I’m so glad to hear that you like my art and that the tosahi proaganda is spreading like a virus.
Tumblr media
Second of all! Absolutely! I like to think they’re absolutely an introvert/extrovert kinda couple. Toki is very unsure in social situations (as hinted at by some dialogue in the game), mainly due to her sheltered upbringing in the Ring of Gaia and almost no contact to kids her age. She is however very street smart and knows her business in combat. Asahi is like the complete opposite, being raised in a bar and constantly being around other people and having a mainly intact family, she is quite open to other people and knows her way around making new friends and sussing other people out, but holds herself back in combat.
Toki is super clingy when it comes to her girlfriend, often standing wordlessly next to her and even glaring at anyone (often not even intentionally) who interacts with her. Whenever she catches anyone being rude to Asahi while she’s working, Toki will throw them out. During the start of their relationship she often wore Asahis clothes until she later bought her own drip(leaving the Ring of Gaia she basically had to leave her belongings there). Toki loves listening to Asahi ramble no matter what (often about bar stuff and hunter quests). If creepypastas are a thing in Tokyo in 2038, you know Tokis knee deep in that slenderman lore, she has some serious wierdgirl vibes.
Asahi admires Tokis strength and perseverance. She’s a big fan of PDA, worrying about it being too much for her girlfriend sometimes, Toki assures her doesn’t bother her. Asahi loves doing Tokis hair and makeup, often styling it in new and creative ways. Asahi often indulges in creative and sometimes childish things, which Toki doesn’t really care for much, but she just likes spending time with her. Asahi doesn’t like to admit this, but above everything else, the kinshicho hunter association is her top priority. She will do anything to keep her dads legacy going. If she has to work overtime she does cancel dates, which does sometimes cause conflict between the two of them.
Their favorite date spot is the fairy forest, where they go on walks and just enjoy the peace and quiet admitst the battlefield that is Tokyo. Asahi sometimes sneaks leftovers from the Kinshicho hunter association so they can Picknick at the lake deep in the forest (Asahi keeps forgetting the shadow riddle required to get there, but toki got it memorized since day one).
I hope this is enough headaches for now! This started off as more of a crackship back then but honestly they would work so good as a couple! ALSO THEY ARE LITERALLY RED AND BLUE! THE SHIP COLORS EVER

i finished playing smt 4 apocalypse for the second time now and man
the gameplay is fire but the writing is giving persona at its worst its not even funny
anyway its lame that you dont fuse with dagda or get him or flynn as a partner on the massacre route you just ressurect one of your old ones to be a "godess" whatever that means, its cool bc you can make it gay but its lame bc it is, commit to the edge and kill everyone forever and give me something cool in return goddamit
how the fuck do you even make enough money to buy the shit in the black market without dlc anyway? twisted tokyo i guess, not that i bothered
i forgot to use the grimoires i was saving up to the end and just lowered the difficulty bc the last dungeon sucks and i wanted to get it over with, the dungeon becomes kinda easy when you realize the trick is that wherever theres a terminal means youre on the right direction
im gonna get the nsp or whatever of the dagda dlc for smtvv bc hes pretty cool
actually
dagda and satan are hot as fuck in this game being a monsterfucker is great

I think one of the unsung morals in SMT IV Apocalypse is the danger of placing all your hopes or entire worth into another person. What might be called a parasocial relationship.
The Real Flynn is by no means self-centered or hostile since he does very much care for the people of Tokyo. All the same though, while good and necessary that he revived their hopes in IV's neutral route, his celebrity status posed a problem as people began investing all their hopes and expectations in him. That when he was kidnapped by Krishna, it immediately led to defeated anguish and fearful uncertainty. It also motivated some Hunters to take action, but there was nonetheless a permeating sense of doubt and loss of direction.
Flynn inspiring hope in the hearts of Tokyo was never meant to rally people around him as their one and only savior, but to encourage them to take charge in their own lives for a better tomorrow. Nonetheless though, the former was what ultimately happened. And I think it was that loss of a savior and the desperation to have him back that made Tokyo so especially vulnerable to Shesha Flynn's manipulation.
What especially stands out to me is during Armageddon at Camp Ichigaya when "Flynn" rallies his Hunters to recklessly charge at Merkabah and Lucifer, essentially throwing their lives away out of thoughtless, blind trust. Nanashi can try to stop them, but it just angers the Hunters and gets him accused of protecting their enemies. The Hunters are not thinking for themselves whatsoever.
IVA stresses throughout the game the importance of thinking for ourselves and making our own decisions. There are many who fall victim to blindly following the angels or demons. And there are also far too many who blindly follow Flynn as their sole savior, which the Divine Powers took advantage of.
A recurring theme in IVA is possession and I would think this to be an extension of that. IVA cautions us not to deeply invest in someone at the cost of our own needs or independence. Whether that person is a celebrity, a politician, a friend, a relative, or anyone else. Even if that person isn't actually taking advantage of us, the one sided'ness and worshipping in any relationship is all the same still unhealthy and dangerous.

Just giving my thoughts. I finally finished Persona 3, 4 and 5, so I'm back to playing mainline SMT. I've returned to SMT 4 Apocalypse and I'm at like the at like 6th moon phase portion of the game. There is one moment I have to scratch my head and call bullcrap on and that's Isabeau's return. At this point of the story, Nanashi and the gang we're thrown in prison by Merkabah after a failed infiltration to Mikado to gather intel. They take everyone's stuff and are being sentenced to be executed, at the same time Isabeau is absent possibly being held somewhere else. The next time we see her she is still alive, and that she was put on probation to join Merkabah's samurai and fight for them. Are you kidding me? Of course the first second we see her she wastes no time joining with us again. I'm sorry but I have to say that this is very nonsensical. Don't get me wrong I like Isabeau and would never want anything bad happen to her, but come on. Instead of killing Isabeau, the one's who is the right hand and one of the leading figures in Flynn's crusade to liberate Tokyo from the angels and demons, Merkabah lets her off with a warning with the blind expectation that she'll work for him and his samurai as part of a "probation." Maybe you can make the argument, 'oh it's because he used to be Isabeau's friend Jonathan, so there are some lingering attachments" but this is the same guy who wants any threats to his cause dead and destroyed, which include Flynn, Lucifer/former fellow Samurai Walter, Nanashi's gang and Tokyo (whom they call the people of, "filth"). Also, even if Merkabah has this whole "there is no greater honor than to serve the lord" mentality, I don't think that it's to the point that he's naive enough to think that someone like Isabeau will follow him. This is the same guy who immeadiately spotted Nanashi's gang in the crowd (granted the infiltration plan was flimsy to begin with) and sentences them to death, but gives Isabeau, an even bigger threat, a warning with no way of assuring her allegiance or obedience? They couldn't just say she just somehow found a way to escape, or have us rescue her, just something other than the reason they give. Again, the second we meet up with her again, she wastes NO TIME joining up with us again. Yeah, so much for that plan Johnny boy. I am enjoying the game by the way. Sorry for this long tangent, I just wanted to put my thoughts into words.

do you have any recommendations for people going to japan?
do you have any recommendations for 3ds/ds/etc games someone could play on a 14 hour plane ride to japan?
Reccomendations for Japan, like in general?? Kinda vague, but lemme think and also tag @doktorpeace and @draayder for their thoughts too
-If you're going to Tokyo, Kabukicho is a MUST. It's the entertainment district! If there's anywhere in Tokyo you're not gonna look like a dumbass for walking around and gawking at things. It's Kabukicho. And there's plenty to gawk at! The square outside of Toho theater usually has something going on, there's TONS of small music venues, @doktorpeace once said something like 'you could eat at a different restaurant every day for every meal for a year and not run out of good places to eat in Kabukicho' and they are SO right. As a bonus if you've ever played a Yakuza/LaD/RGG game you almost definitely know most of the layout already. Kabukicho is not hard to navigate at all, and I'm sure that's intentional. Anyway. Go to Kabukicho. Explore the Don Quixote. Eat the food. Take a picture with the Godzilla statue. 10/10
-Honestly? I expected Harajuku to be a lot more expensive than it was, but then again the USD has more buying power than usual in Japan? Anyway the thing about Tokyo is that people there are intimidatingly trendy, I went there and now I understand why Splatoon is like that, the youths of Tokyo will wear their heavy black visual kei outfits during record-breaking heatwaves because fashion is THAT important. Anyway it's real easy to find good-quality clothes for reasonable prices there, and also a bunch of thrift shops full of cool stuff! You'll find a sweater for any American pro or college sports team you can think of and that's a promise. Fair warning, shibuya thrifting will not be significantly cheaper than regular retail, unless you're shopping for traditional Japanese clothing, in which case you absolutely should and I reccomend a store called Chicago, they had a HUGE selection. Spinns is a good store too, they also have a website that I keep meaning to order stuff from.......
-Osaka is really cool, but if you're there you're gonna want to stop by the Amerika-mura part of town. Very cool, very artsy, it feels kinda like Shibuya, if Shibuya was more like New York? Kinda?? The point is that it's VERY cool over there, there's a lot of art and neat places to get snacks and clothing stores. Absolutely check it out if you can
-the best burger I've ever had in my life was the kobe beef burger at Kokopelli. The guy who runs the place spent a lot of time in the states. I greeted him in Japanese and he said back 'hey guys what's up' in a perfect Midwestern accent. Anyway extremely good. Get some burgers there if you can
As for video games...... @doktorpeace played through Pokemon Ultra Sun on the plane ride. Don’t do that. Just play regular Sun/Moon. I was playing a lot of Octopath Traveler 2 and The World Ends With You Neo on that trip myself, and my partners both took turns with Pikmin 4 (which had just come out).
If you have a 3ds, basically any Shin Megami Tensei game you can get running on there would be a good choice, I personally reccomend SMT4/SMT4 Apocalypse and SMT Soul Hackers in terms of native hardware, I'm sure you could get the PS1 smt on there with some homebrewing and elbow grease, it can emulate basically everything up to the Sega Saturn just fine. Also Etrian Odyssey is really good, play the Untold versions on 3ds for 1 and 2 and the re-release on Switch for 3. 4, 5, and Nexus are all 3ds native. There's also a mystery dungeon game but it's only okay.
But uuuuuuh if you have like...a steam deck there's a LOT of Baldur's Gate. Like a lot. This game is huge. There are also two entire Psychonauts games! Did you know that?? Did you know you can play Psychonauts?? Did you know that is a game y

fynn thoughts. now.
:)
I ASSUME YOU MEAN FLYNN FROM SMT IV AND HELLO YES HI I am going to be talking major spoilers for SMT IV and by extension Apocalypse during this.
If you have any desire to play or watch me play the game (@beantothemax and by extension @meme-boys-blog you have clearance) I suggest you do not engage.
For the record, i haven't beaten SMT IV Apocalypse yet, so most of my opinions will come from SMT IV and the few glimpses I got of him during gameplay so far.
Favorite thing about them Almost every single NPC in Tokyo talks about how polite he is, almost unbearably so if you refuse healing from Hunters Associations. Every dialogue option is so very polite and formal.
Least favorite thing about them GOOD LORD I wish we got to see more of Past!Flynn in the Neutral route. I mean I got a couple more scraps of info from Apocalypse, but I need to know the kid's relationship with Masakado and/or Skins and Fujiwara.
Favorite line Hes a bit of a silent protagonist, but he does say stuff about Relics that you find around Tokyo. They're so silly. Try guessing which one is which!
"Could it be to protect one from feces?"
"Bizarre-smelling sand."
"Could it be a uniform for some sort of ritual?"
"A very bouncy object."
"Could it be seaweed?"
"....."
"A squishy carpet"
brOTP Mentioned this in the Isabeau writeup, but yeah. Isabeau. They've gone through so much, they're basically besties at this point.
OTP HEY GUYS YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD BE SO TRAGIC??? I love Flynn/Issachar. I love the inherent tragedy in it. I can see them going off and being Samurai together like they dreamed but alas, the world is not so kind... In fact it is so much Crueler than they think! nOTP Shipping Flynn with Walter or Jonathan. Like sure I can see it, but I think those two are more in love with Chaos or Law respectively. Again, please change my mind! I love hearing different opinions to mine!
Random Headcanon Flynn never really talked to people when he was a kid. Issachar approached him one time at like a town meeting and Issachar made it his mission to be friends with him. Flynn immediately opened up as soon as Issachar brought him out into the woods to hunt for Cool Bugs.
Unpopular opinion If you say any other ending is canon you CLEARLY haven't played neutral. And yeah i mean i get you neutral ending is hard to get and a bit of a slog, but new game plus is RIGHT THERE. And there's a BILLION guides on how to get neutral.
Song I associate with them
Just... Lets just say i drafted out an entire animatic to this song.
Favorite Picture of them
Tumblr media
Sleepy... Having dreams about Things Screaming in his face... In all seriousness i think you know what is my fav picture:
Tumblr media
Yes, i had to hunt through my files to see my darling boy smile again. He deserves it. Look at him, Hes so happy. About .5 seconds later he is beaten within an inch of his life. :(

I think about how people would eat in mainline SMT games more frequently than I thought I would. Atlus we need a demon cooking game
non perishable goods would only last so long so there’s likely some kind of agricultural front that had to have been established in games where we see the apocalypse going on for longer than just a couple years. i mean 4/4a had probably the most implications but it may extend to other games??? ignoring the ersatz food (which likely is made using some kind of demon product), i’m assuming certain products (like eggs) can come from some as well? there was a quest in 5 that involved getting an egg. we see a rukh in 4a make a nest and it’s treated like a normal occurrence. there’s also the few demons that have some control over harvests n stuff so i guess field work is 100% possible. there was a sidequest in blasted tokyo involving getting corn that must’ve still been kept alive somehow by tlazolteotl which further supports that theory. let’s not forget demeter especially in 5.
then of course there’s this guy
Tumblr media
haven’t yet played smt 2 but i have spent so much time browsing through the demons of older games that i think demi-nandi is the first instance we get of agriculture. they’re used as livestock (poor things). i imagine meat is likely the easiest thing to get regardless due to how many demons are based on livestock and game + most of mainline being based in a post nuclear environment.
on the demon front particularly with beast-race ones there’s at least an ecosystem of sorts due to talks of hunting and certain demons that go after other ones in particular. (nocturne and 5 establish the pecking order amongst demons more than any other entry so far due to lack of humans in the vortex world/da’at so we can assume most of the demon ecosystem comes from more than just eating humans or magnetite.) ecosystems are incredibly important to all life forms including humanity as the collapse of one without another taking its place equals collapse of society anyways due to most materials we use coming from nature including food, so there has to be some kind of ecosystem within smt in order to make humanity’s long term survival in 2/4/4a (not including mikado) and a demon society lasting longer than a week make sense.
then there’s strange journey where sector carina’s a thing. i do remember there being npc dialogue regarding how some of the food stocked in the sector may or may not be potentially edible but considering how long the mission goes on for without outside aid and likely dwindling supplies (+ the fun to watch meat conveyor belt having actual food), there’s gotta be some limitless or at least long lasting food source carina provides.
question now is if meat is the primary food source and only 2 has an excuse as to why so many yumby cows are made bc cloning, do demons reproduce-
