It was only supposed to be a couple of drinks, with old friends. Instead, Klaus was coming home with blood in his hair, and what felt like a broken rib. Of course it had been a ploy--these were people he'd snitched on, stolen from, manipulated in the heart of his addiction. The robbery should've been obvious, the moment he arrived. But Diego had once briefly convinced him that his middle name was "Gullible".

In reality, Klaus knew he was lucky they'd stopped at knocking him out. Then again, reanimation usually had a shorter heal time. Either way, he was almost certain he could feel more braincells dying off. How many concussions had he gotten? Did they count if he reanimated since, like a reset, or did it stack?

Finally finding himself teetering at the front door of the Academy, Klaus tried to open it as quietly as he could. Thank God the building was too old for SimplySafe. But instead of an automated alarm, his sister-in-law's voice nearly made him jump out of his skin.

"Jesus, Lila!" Klaus hissed, grimacing as he reached out to shut the door. His other arm hugged his side, where the pain made him short of breath. "I'm not bleeding, go back to bed!"

Suspicions confirmed, the missing hunters were dead. It wasn't a surprise, and she had told Asher as much, however, now the floodgates of questions had opened. She didn't care so much about vengeance for them, but she did want to know the responsible party and whether there was any connection to someone in the OEA as Asher (and now she) suspected.

A curfew was exactly what they needed, and she sat on a bench, smoking her cigarette and watching the clock. "Nearly 11," she mused, "need an escort home?"

An early morning wasn’t a completely foreign concept to Ryder, but if he had a choice, he’d likely always choose to stay in bed until at least 10am - unless there was something or someone interesting luring him out. Today’s unfortunate circumstances saw Ryder out and about with no good reason, however. It was the fault of a bird that sat outside of his window squawking like there was no tomorrow, and while all he wanted to do was roll back over and shut his eyes again, it had been enough to send him out on a walk - the damn bird had been relentless.

A morning walk wasn’t so bad, though, Ryder supposed - that was until he realised that he was out of cigarettes. With a huff and some muttering under his breath, he turned direction and found himself outside of his workplace. His employee discount could surely help, or it would have, at least, if Lavender Haze was open. “Fuck- is that really when we open?” He cursed, looking at the operating hours plastered on the door; he wasn’t a frequent opener of the joint, and he supposed he wasn’t usually in need of their services so early, making him oblivious to the fact. “Oh, hey!” He called out for the attention of another as they happened to walk by. “You don’t happen to have a cigarette you could spare, do you?”

Murph's sweet tooth was out with a vengeance today, the sugary goodness wafting through the doors of Crave & Co luring him inside. A wall of pastries and croissants, danishes and donuts greeted him, and he found himself immediately succumbing to decision paralysis. Asking for one of everything was just sad because he knew exactly what he'd do. He'd lug the boxes home, plop down on his couch, put on Schitt's Creek for the thirty-seventh time, and eat every single one.

No, he couldn't do that. Being out in sweats was sad enough.

So, instead, he turned back to the person who had formed a line behind him, unwittingly putting pressure on him to make a decision and make it fast. "Hey, hi, sorry to bother you, but I'm sort of feeling like this is probably how parents feel when they're asked to pick a favorite child, and I'm genuinely afraid that my lack of self control is going to make me walk out of here with one of everything. So, can I just ask what you'd recommend?"

God, putting himself out there and meeting new people was hard. He'd sat with a beer for a while trying to work up the nerve to just toss himself into the deep end. But then he started thinking about the whole moving on aspect of this moving on phase of his life, and he found himself outside, a cool fall breeze teasing his hair as he slid a cigarette between his lips.

He'd never been much of a smoker— socially, occasionally, and usually only after he'd been drinking— but he had a lot of space to fill in his day to day now and he was still figuring out what things fit. So for the time being, he was going to indulge in this nasty habit because it made him feel better for a couple of minutes.

He took a drag as he turned the corner, exhaling a cloud of smoke almost directly in the face of someone he hadn't seen until it was too late. Immediately horrified, Murph yanked the cigarette out of his mouth and stomped it out. "Holy shit, I'm so sorry. Are you okay? I can light it back up for you if you wanna get even or something."

“What are you lookin’ at?” He asks in a taunting tone, before suddenly and without warning changing his demeanor. He instead tits his head curiously.

“Oh, wait, are you here for the show? It’s starting in a few hours, you’re a bit early, arent’cha?” The smirk doesn't leave his face, and as he awaits your response, his face searches yours for any hints: rather it be familiarity, understanding, or complete confusion.

camden doesn’t get out much. for a thirty year old, his social life is far from booming. though it’s not something he entirely minds. it isn’t like he ever really had one in the first place, and truthfully he would much rather be spending time with his son that at a party. but it’s one of his oldest friends birthday celebrations, so here he is anyway, slightly tipsy and with his mind elsewhere.

he’s wandered outside for some air, leaning against the metal railing with a cigarette between his lips. it’s a bad habit and he knows it — that’s why he’s quit at least six or seven times. but sometimes he simply needs one, and the rare flush of alcohol in his system isn’t helping. turns his head when he hears someone approach, half-smile capturing his lips as he exhaled a puff of smoke. “ i’m not supposed to be smoking, ” he states, slight chuckles as he brings his finger to his lips as if to ask them to keep it a secret. “ you having a good night ? ”

"Someone's coming--Klaus, wake up! Someone's coming!"

If Klaus had a nickel for for every morning he woke to his dead brother's voice grating in his ears, he'd have enough money to buy a decent bag of crystal. Yet here he was, being chewed out by Ben instead.

The sun beamed in through the crack of the dumpster lid, somehow hitting him directly in the eyes. Klaus unjustly decided this was Ben's doing. But he'd done what his brother asked! He'd found shelter for the night. Even if it was a dumpster full of half eaten pizza, at least he had a roof over his head, and a meal in his belly! Most nights, he couldn't say the same.

After leaving the Academy at seventeen, Klaus had been "in between places" for over five years. Couch surfing, short term flings, and favors with friends had quickly become homeless shelters, dumpsters, and the occasional stint in rehab. Usually he saved that for the winter, when being on the streets was the harshest. But the ghosts that surrounded him stayed comfortably numb these days, as long as he stayed stocked up.

"KLAUS! Get up you idiot, SOMEONE'S COMING!"

Before he could react, Klaus was blinded by the full force of the sun, as someone flipped the lid up. Tattooed palms raised defensively to cover his face, but nothing came. Slowly, he opened his eyes. What the fuck?

A woman was eating pizza out of his dumpster. For a moment, Klaus was too shocked--and hungover--to speak.

"...Uh, hello? Can't you see I've got this place occupied?"

He wanted a long life with his family and he knew Liza didn’t like him smoking anyway. But having intentions to quit and actually quitting were two very different things. He knew it would be hard but not this hard.

And that's why, with a cigarette between his lips, he searched his pockets for a lighter as he stepped outside only to run into… Arkin of all people. “Hey.” He mumbled with the cigarette still between his lips, taking the time to light it before taking it out to speak. “You looking for Sterling?
