this is why i quite literally lost interest in the smg4 fandom because of shippers.

first thing i noticed.

i shipped this for a day and realized it was wrong as hell. mr puzzles has controlled mario in so many FUCKING ways throughout puzzlevision and just because hes "retarded" doesnt mean it DOESNT FUCKING APPLY. i wont change your opinion, but theres so much things wrong with this ship. its awful. for the new episode on saturday, im assuming its gonna be related to wotfi 2024 with marty, mario, and mr puzzles. mr puzzles said he WOULD be back to seek revenge. dont give me shitty excuses how it "wasnt that bad" and wasnt controlled as much, because its still horrible.

marty and mario;

now your just making up ships. its not even rarepairing anymore. this is also borderline AWFUL because of the dynamic. marios fucking OC, who BRAINWASHED (in connection to mr puzzles) mario, to quite literally steal. marty, in the new episode where mario is being hunter by karen, literally also said he would come back for mario. what is "lovey dovey" about this shit? he may have protected marty at first in some episodes along with this, but it isnt right.

do i even have to explain WHY this is also bad? mr puzzles controlled wren. he even died at the own cost just to get powerful from puzzles. just because their both villians, theres two different situations for them. wren started western spaghetti by getting into mutual contact with puzzles. he proceeded to kidnap the crew and him. how do you possibly make something up like this.

there is barely any interaction between the two. "rarepairs" but its literally characters who probably do not give a fuck about eachother. theyre most likely friends, but like, barely. chris isnt technically part of the crew either, and only really shows up if swag is also there trying to save something. let the poor dudes go.

axol x niles;

this is the reason i even wrote this. this is why i think this is SO fucking disgusting.

if youve really paid attention to both the genesis and revelations arcs, you would know neither of them are on good terms.

niles technically posessed axol in a way. to both torture him and melony. melony had to kill axol to save him and free niles. niles is not good and shouldnt even be dynamic-ed this way. victim x abuser? niles abused axol quite literally?? why the FUCK would you even ship this?

this is also wrong. they have never interacted in a day of their life. if im wrong, it was probably for a MILISECOND. ive rewatched the genesis arc and revelations arc 27 times. i know how everything goes around. smg0 was not around for that much, except when niles took control of him too like with axol. this dynamic, let alone "ship" doesnt make sense.

Ever since I read this fanfic about them, they have been taking up a considerable chunk of my thoughts.

They just work so surprisingly well together and I love them. I need MORE OF THEMMM!!

I kinda wanna write them but that first fanfic for them captured their characters and dynamic so perfectly that I feel as if I’d be doing the ship dirty if I tried to write my own oneshot for them.

If you haven’t already, I highly recommend reading Reach for the Sky by JCMorrigan. I’m obsessed with them because of it.

In the afterlife, Oneshot Wren and Niles continuously play Wren's killing game day in and day out. They love it!

Niles enjoys getting to murder with no consequences and Wren appreciates a challenge as well as a willing participant in his game.

However, the former splatfest champion worries that history is beginning to repeat itself when he finds he is unable to beat Niles at his OWN game.

Zero: you mean like their relationship? Uhh well I definitely wasn’t expecting it. And admittedly, it does scare me a little sometimes, but they both seem happy so who am I to judge?

Fred: I’m not really all that close to Niles after what he did. He tried apologising and all that but that doesn’t change the fact that he hurt a lot of people. He wants to date a cowboy? Fine. Just as long as he’s not bothering anyone else.

Spudnick: I don’t really know either of them so I don’t actually have an opinion on them.

Desti: They need to work on their PDA. I don’t like walking to my room and seeing those two necking it on with each other. I mean would it kill them to keep it in their simulation??

Axol: They’re both evil bastards so they deserve each other. I agree with Desti, although I believe they should stay in Wren’s simulation permanently so we never have to see them around.

Terrence: *clicking noises* translation: I like messing with them.

Greg: *alien noises* translation: Due to their similarities both in character and, motivation, deaths and their relationship with their manipulators/victims, it would be fair to assume that the relationship that the two of them share will likely be long lasting and prosperous. Bringing many years of happiness to both parties as their invigorating duels will keep a fire burning within them that no other soul, dead or alive, could replicate.

Niles: me and Wren? Eh, what can I say? He’s hot for a squid. Sharp, cunning, dangerous, etc. He’s the only guy here who really gets me, you know? He can relate to what I’ve been through and it’s really nice to have someone here who can do that.

Wren: well, he sure ain’t a terrible shot. Gives me a good run for my money. A challenge in more ways than one. But, at the end of the day, I know he’s there for me. I can always rely on him if I need to and I honestly enjoy being around the guy. He’s good company and he helped me figure out a bunch of stuff about myself. I love the guy..

I have been absolutely obsessed with this ship for over a month now and am desperate for more content of them so I wrote this story inspired by the only other Wreniles fic on AO3.

Niles and Oneshot Wren meet in the afterlife. There, they decide that in order to keep themselves entertained for all eternity, they'll play Wren's twisted western game day in and day out forever.

But when Niles mistakes flirtatious banter for ACTUAL flirting, he runs the risk of making things REALLY awkward for the two of them REALLY fast.

How did you come up with Wreniles? Was it just some random 3am motivation or something else?

Well, I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again bc this story and ship seriously need more attention.

I was browsing the SMG4 fandom tag on AO3 since there are so few new stories there that I can just see every single new story easily. Anyway, I noticed a fic for Wren x Niles and I thought “ooo new rarepair! I’ll read this.”, not expecting much from it.

But ho. ly. Shit.

IT WAS THE BEST THING I HAVE EVER READ. POSSIBLY MY FAVOURITE SMG4 ONESHOT THAT EXISTS!

That one fanfictions opened me up to such an incredible dynamic between dead villains with stupidly similar stories. They are now my favourite rarepair and second favourite ship in all of SMG4. They work so well together and I love them.

The fic was called Reach for the sky by JCMorrigan and I cannot recommend it enough.
