Pointed out there's something to be concerned about with Ameliance looking like a child/teenager on a recent "smash or pass" style poll post (that used very young-looking face screenshots.)

Proceeded to be called brian-dead, insane, etc. and be blocked by the poll blog for...responding to people keeping the argument going by @ ing me on the poll and other separate, unrelated polls.

Multiple people insisted I was incorrect, or attempted to explain that I was obviously wrong because she's 7ft tall and has kids (none of which is seen in the screenshots, and none of which negates that she -like most women in FF- has an extremely child-like face with wide-set and large eyes, a small mouth, and no wrinkles, flaws, or other signs of age...which seem reserved for male characters, ffs)

Totally rational behavior, awesome.

Anyway, @smashingorpassing prefers not to block people hurling accusations of brain-damage and insanity, in preference of blocking the person pointing out that FF (and anime-adjacent media in general) has a long-standing issue with making their characters look young, and their fans have a long-standing issue with viewing said infantilised people as fuckable waifus.

Frustrating to be blocked for, idk, some nonexistent and non-elaborated upon rule for that blog.

Update: aaaand they've removed all my comments. I could understand this if I violated literally ANY of their listed rules. I wasn't the one @ ing users outside of the walls of the post. I wasn't the one throwing out insults.

I've come to understand some FF fans are combative, complacent, hostile, and unquestioning of questionable trends in media, but it sucks that that extends to this blog and its moderators.

Smashingorpassing really helps you learn something about yourself. Do I find this character hot? No? Would I smash them? Yes. The vibes tell me they are a generous lover and after I click smash I see the audience agrees. Likewise a character may be objectively hot but their vibes tell me it will end with one of us crying and depressed and I simply cannot smash.

I just heard about the flour massacre in gaza. over 112 people were killed in such a short period of time. I feel even more sickened that I'm kind of numb to it now. I feel just sad. it's how I felt when I saw the video of Sidra Hassounsa, who was found hanging from a building, dead from a bomb. I was eating food at my desk and I just am thinking of all the people who can't eat there.

I drew this when I first saw the news of her death, and I hesitated to even post it. I guess I felt like even if I drew her, it would mean nothing if I couldn't draw all of the other children and people who have been murdered. But I realized that it's ridiculous to hesitate rather than to at least try. I remember Sidra Hassouna, and I do my best to remember all that have perished too. I'm going to link a post I found that lists gofundmes for a lot of families I found recently, plus some other links as well. WE HAVE TO DEMAND A CEASEFIRE FOR THEM PLEASE!!!

I have formed an unbreakable barrier to protect me from learning anything about Final Fantasy so i am going to take your word on this lol. Some people are just unwilling to consider the material reasons for why age gaps are an issue, they just go off Vibes Based Reasoning. In real life it’s about ensuring equality of life experience and preventing power dynamics/dependency. Chilchuk canonically has every indicator of an independent functional and mature adult, the idea that fucking him is bad based solely on his youthful appearance is ridiculous.

Do you think you’ll ever do the records like @smashingorpassing does? Like highest smash rate, highest pass rate, most even split, etc. I get that those would probably have to be updated when the records are broken, but you could probably just link the post that holds the record so you can easily compare the scores. Did you guess "new blog in the smash or pass ecosystem but this one specialises in trek characters"? I fucking hope so. Because that's all I've got here!

I was inspired of course by @charactersmashorpass / @charactersmashorpass-2 but also @smashingorpassing and especially @ace-attorney-smash-or-pass who put the fandom specificity idea in my head.

Please only interact (this includes submitting characters) if you are 18 or older. If you're part of a system, this has to be true both for all fronters at the time of any given interaction and for the body. All polls will run for a week, if one doesn't I posted it wrong and you're free to point it out.

Rules for character submissions:

Has to be from a licensed Star Trek medium. Beta canon is fine, OCs are not. Unless it's very funny, then I might make a (rare!) exception.

They don't have to be a major character or even appear more than once but it'd be good if there was enough canon information for people to make an informed decision. Having a canon appearance (that isn't super blurry) would almost always fulfil this requirement but you may have to provide an image yourself.

It is not a requirement for it to be feasible to have sex with them. If you wanna fuck a non-corporeal character, we'll assume you'd figure out a way. It will be assumed they also really wanna try to have sex with you if you choose smash.

Controversially, I will not have a universal minimum age but they do have to pass the Harkness test which includes being of sexual maturity for their species (tho I'll rule they also have to be of more general maturity for their species, some real life humans become "sexually mature" before their teens but that doesn't mean you should fuck them; characters from asexually reproducing species will ofc only be judged on overall maturity). If their age is unknown or it's unknown when their species would be considered mature, I will consider the way the narrative treats them. So TL;DR: Kes is fine, Zero is not.

(As an extension of this, artificial life forms designed to function like adults will not be disqualified based on how long they've been active while artificial life forms designed to emulate children/minors will never qualify. Where this line is drawn in unclear cases will be decided by me on a case by case basis. So the EMH is fine, Lal is not.)

(recently adjusted) If the character is shown at different life stages within one series, I will judge based on the one people are most likely to think of when they think of that character (eg Jake and Nog are not acceptable) and if they are to be considered from another series where they are an adult, they have to be at least a recurring character in it, very small narrative roles and cameos do not count. As a rule of thumb: if someone only watching the show where they're an adult would remember them after, that's probably okay. So Prodigy!Wes is fine, Picard!Wes is not.

That said, you are allowed to submit specific versions of a character, including alternate timeline versions, if they pass all other requirements, eg you can submit specifically Solid Odo or Dilf Harry from the episode Timeless, but you still can't submit adult Naomi from Shattered.

I reserve the right to reject any submission, especially if I have reason to believe it was made in bad faith, but other than that scenario I don't think this is likely to happen.
