Whumpee that deceives Whumper

They rack their brain to memorize every little movement, every indicator of Whumper's mood, every pattern. At some point, they even learn to predict Whumper.

They know what Whumper likes to see. They know what they want within a few minutes, what's going to happen to them. They're powerless to stop it.

Sometimes Whumper wants them to silently cry on the floor, so they do. It would be foolish not to conserve energy while they can.

Sometimes Whumper is already in a bad mood. They probe, both because the knowledge is invaluable and because then Whumper will take it out on them.

Whumpee has a little internal guide to how to take punishments. Begin as defiant, but still shake. Look like they're trying to conceal their fear. Gradually break. It starts off as a yelp or sob or whimper followed by an immediate insult, then Whumpee goes quiet for a bit until it's “too much,” begging quietly. And then it's as if a dam has been broken, frantically pleading for mercy, for a reprieve. They look at Whumper with wide, teary eyes, and both their true self and their facade just want it to stop.

Their cries turn quiet as their energy runs out, until they can't bear to look at anything. Their flinch at Whumper's hand on their chin doesn't need to be faked. Their distress is real, and they let themselves whimper. Whumper likes displays of exhausted weakness, it makes them feel as if they've won.

They lean into the little coos and pets Whumper gives after, trying not to gag. Alarms of panic ring through their head, and they acknowledge them.

It would be easier to lose themselves in the comfort after the torture. It would be so much easier to become a shell of a person. They already act like one. Why can't they give up?

The emotional exhaustion after they've been left alone. The dark quiet. Their steadying breath. The scent of both blood and anticeptic. The locked door. The pain.

They can escape once Whumper deems them broken enough to let out unsupervised. It's just a matter of time, just a matter of maintaining this act. A matter of trust from a sadistic torturer that keeps Whumpee in a basement for no reason other than their own pleasure.

They have to keep going.

i'm writing a gilmore girls fic that involves paris geller from our pandemic year 2020 going back to 2001, around the time jess first comes in to town. very slow burn between jess/paris. i have around 10k words of snippets all over my doc and an outline and i'm slowly becoming re-obsessed with gilmore girls again. what the fuck is up with this fandom that i keep going back to like an on-and-off again boyfriend??? anyway, i have no idea if i'll ever post this and i've been going back and forth on this for what feels like forever. if this sounds at all interesting, let me know.

the 5 olivers thing plagues me like i wish i could read his notes i wanna study his brain a little... in the variety article he does mention different olivers when facing different people so that might be one of the factors?

its rly driving me so crazy. i've got the whole pin board up in my head with red string connecting the dots trying to figure out exactly who our five olivers are. need an interviewer to take one for the team and just ask him to lay out the character(s) in explicit detail. i don't care how long it is. i don't care if it's boring to almost everybody else on the planet. we need it so badly.

it would help if we even had a clue about how his olivers are organized. if they're not chronological, is it by relationships with other characters? is there an elspeth oliver? a james oliver? a fucking michael gavey oliver? is it just organized by general demeanor? is oliver who desperately and quietly wants felix at oxford different from the oliver who begs to stay in felix's life before the party? are they the same? where does grave-fucking oliver fall in all of this? is he the same as bathtub, blood-sucking, obedience demanding oliver? are they all different?

I bought a chonky little MP3 player and put all the digital music I currently have on there, which is still well under the 32 GB it can store on the device itself without expandable storage and am listening to it on shuffle now. I have a bunch of CDs I want to rip and put on there and I also need to edit the metadata on the files that are already on there, because almost everything is Unknown Artist and Unknown Album right now, but like. This is nice.

I will regularly take screenshots when I'm reading a fic and there's a nice turn of phrase or moving image or interesting insight, but now I'm drowning in no-context screenshot because it never occurred to me to like, add notes or something. And because so many people are (rightfully!) locking their AO3 down so their work can't be as easily used to train bots, googling exact quotes has been useless.

It's not the end of the world but as an example from an OFMD fic, I would love to remember who is responsible for this because are you fucking kidding me it's gorgeous:

"so little time to dwell amongst strangers as a citizen of the world" like come on just punch me in the fucking guts.

Or this one:

"the false comfort of a life unlived, a slow poison that withered the heart of him" like jesucristo that is lovely and it's a useful reflection!

Do either of these look familiar? They're both reflective and casually devastating in a way that doesn't not remind me of @lostakasha's lovely WIP A World of Tempestuous Things, and the first one in particular feels very like the version of Stede from that story, but that's just a guess. [edit: a correct guest, it turns out.]

Anyway the main point is I need to start making notes on my screenshots so this doesn't keep happening because if there's anything I like more than reading a beautiful and insightful fic, it's rereading a beautiful and insightful fic.

so... what does yaz's future look like?

I was inspired by some recent posts on my dash to open a new discussion about yaz's character, feel free to join in! just make sure to be respectful and kind :))

for this post Im not talking about yaz's life immediately after power of the doctor (but you can see that in my fancomic wink wink), I mean long term, what does her life turn out to be like? what path does she end up choosing for herself?

I see a lot of people mentioning UNIT and I can sort of see it but tbh I disagree. I cant see yaz working at UNIT... wouldnt she face the same frustrations there as she did as a police officer? and after her time with the doctor I really cant see her submiting herself to a vertical hiearchy again ('flat team structure' and all)

so.. what does she do?

some ideas came to my mind: social worker maybe? that seems a bit too mundane for her.. hmm her years in the 1900s maybe sparked a love for history and anthropology? archeology maybe? still doesnt feel right..

but what about.. astronomy?

I feel like this part of yaz's character gets a bit pushed aside in general, but yaz absolutely loves space and the stars! and to learn how to fly the tardis I imagine she had to study many different solar systems, galaxies, as well as engineering and physics

I also think being an academic would fit her really well, she gets to study and write about space while also helping students and her community!

and now I cant stop thinking about professor yaz who talks lovingly about the stars, who makes older professors frown because how the hell did she know there would be a planet there?, and whose students made a group chat to theorize about ever since jane from the history department found a photo from 1903 of a woman that looks exactly like her

I just love this idea of yaz being a prodigy in astronomy and lowkey becoming a mystery and an urban legend in university, the doctor would be proud hdskhsjshd
