I noticed The Long Dark was updating and I read the dev diary and was like “oh cool! Respawn with consequences!”

I die for the first time in a signal void run, and I choose the far away respawn option, thinking it was going to send me back to the building I had just left. Across the map from my base, but hey, not a bad walk.

I wake and the title card says “Community Hall: Fordaken Airfield” im immediately confused because there aren’t any towns in that region, but ok, whatever.

I start raiding the place and notice it is IDENTICAL to the Community Hall in Pleasant Valley. I think “that’s weird, normally they at least change the furniture”

Then I walk outside and see THIS

WHEN THEY SAID FAR AWAY SPAWN I THOUGHT THEY MEANT THE OTHER CORNER OF THE REGION NOT THREE REGIONS OVER!!!!

Anyways it actually works out because Mystery Lake as a central location is WAY BETTER than having to go through Forlorn Muskeg in a food shortage

A Forgotten Lullaby...

It was one of her first couple trials in the fog, and Rayne was making good progress on the generation she and another were on, but just as she was getting into the groove of things, she heard the melody of a long-loss song.

The tune was carried on the gentle breeze in the fog, as if coming to her on purpose, and the familiarity of it caused the smaller woman pause, eventually causing her to abandon her spot and move towards the source. The other survivor gave her a puzzled look, but kept working, as if the song made them even more on edge... but how could it? It was a simple Russian Lullaby.

Ray didn’t take long to find the source, or rather, it didn’t take long to find her; the closer she got, the harder her heart pounded in her chest. So much so that it was starting to become deafening in her ears, but she pressed on. She knew the heartbeat meant trouble, but her curiosity would wind up winning over, and nearly being the end of her all together. When she was close enough, she would start to hum along, but in a much higher octave, choosing to harmonize with the lower pitch. The lower part would cut off immediately as the source snapped in her direction, but Rayne carried on, keeping the melody alive and in the air.

Snapping and thumping could be heard before the source finally stood before Rayne, towering over her with Axe in hand and hatchet on hip. Black, beady eyes would peer down to the platinum blonde behind the mask of a snow-ram, head canting to the side as she listened to someone else finally sing the song back. It had been a solo for so long, but now... this one had dared to start a duet.

Lowly, The Huntress would start her song again, shifting the large, bloody axe to one hand as she moved closer to the much smaller woman until she was towering over Rayne.

A lump would form within her throat, but Ray would hum on, ignoring the pounding in her chest as she looked up to the killer of the trial, but she stood fast, even opening her mouth to start singing the lyrics. “Bayu Baushki Bayu...”

Signal Void Update #3

After raiding the bunker, I went back home and dropped off some stuff before going up to a potential maple sapling spawn by the plane crash.

And my incredibly good luck allowed me to find THREE maple saplings all clumped together.

As much as I wanted to loot the plane crash, I did the responsible thing instead and dropped the saplings off at the farmstead.

Anyways, I noticed that I had a A LOT of extra deer hides, so I decided to make my first ever crafted clothing item: deerekin boots. What I DIDN’T know was that deerskin boots tale 12 hours to craft. Thankfully, I had plenty of time while I waited for the saplings to cure.

And I bit later I was FINALLY able to make a travois! In case anyone needed to know: it can hold 75kg.

I’ll post my update on trying to get to Mystery Lake later, but let’s just day it’s going poorly (I died again because you cant hold things in your hands while pulling the travois)
