Achievement unlocked: tripped on the sidewalk and fell down/collapsed into a roll so beautifully that a coworker asked me if I do judo.

I do not do judo, nor anything that requires grace or coordination. It was pure luck. It did not feel graceful, either -- it felt like plummeting toward concrete right up until the end when I somehow miraculously avoided the expected impact. I assume it looked about like this:

(Edit: it's important to clarify that I didn't actually somersault! Just kinda half rolled forward. But I still choose to imagine it like this. ;) )

I was absolutely shocked to find no one had yet posted any Small Miracles fanart on here. So I had to fix that, obviously. It's not great but it's hopefully better than absolutely nothing.

Might draw more for this book at some point. It was a very nice read.

New fave coffee shop has an outdoor fire pit. An old man brought his own kindling and gloves and has been keeping it going. A group of middle school kids have gathered around him, watching and listening to him with such intensity it made my tear up.

Just started reading Small Miracles by Olivia Atwater.

There's a Fallen Angel of Petty Temptations who could go into millennia long rants about the unfairness of a System that makes eating chocolate a small sin that makes you lose points.

So clearly I'm already absolutely sold on this book.

Tiny miracle of the day:

I tried to call my dad and got this message that this number had "calling restrictions," which was really weird. So I texted him and he tried to call me and it said his phone was deactivating, which didn't make sense because he just put a card on.

We went back and forth, and he realized that I was literally the only person he could communicate with, he couldn't call anyone, even the customer service number, and no one else was answering his text messages.

He came to the conclusion that for whatever reason, the card he had bought hadn't actually worked, so he went and bought a new one, but he couldn't put it on because the internet on his phone wouldn't work, and again the customer service number also didn't work. So he texted me the number on the card, and I added the time to his phone, and it is working again.

It's small... but he could have gone for several days without knowing his phone didn't have time, and if there was an emergency, he wouldn't have been able to contact anyone. And yeah... 911 should still have worked, but if even the customer service number wasn't working, I'm a bit skeptical that it would have worked. But for *some weird reason,* my texts were able to get through and let him know there was a problem. So... God is good, and sometimes his miracles are really small, like letting a text message get through when it shouldn't be able to.

Small Miracles - 'ExtraTerrestrial' Feat. Mirari

Following on from their very well recieved 'Mercury' single in May, Cardiff New Wave band 'Small Miracles' release brand new 'Extra Terrestrial' single on the 27th July Via Dirty Carrot Records. Small Miracles are a dynamic quintet from Cardiff, Wales. Inspired by the early New Wave movement, they infuse elements of Punk, Blues and Grunge into their genre-bending sound. Their music has a distinctly queer, underground feel, finely balancing heavy grooves and breakdowns with catchy hooks and choruses. The band were honoured to recieve support for last single 'Mercury' by Deb Grant BBC Radio 6 Music, Adam Walton, BBC Radio Wales, Treblezine, Circuit Sweet, Edge Of Arcady, No New Wave No Fun, Amplify The Noise. The band describe 'Extra Terrestrial'..... ExtraTerrestrial is a protest song and a condemnation of war, initially written in response to Putin's invasion of Ukraine. As the lyric developed it became clear that Putin couldn't be criticised without acknowledging the damaging consequences of Western interventionism in the Middle East, and this became the crux of the song.

It is an attack on the British and American governments which have waged war on the Middle East for decades and the deceptive colonisation of capital which accompanies this warfare. This is mirrored in the track with jarring samples, a screeching guitar solo and Mirari's defiant verse. The crossover of punk rock and rap is, in itself, both anti-establishment and an act of resistance, and this is the energy of ExtraTerrestrial.

'Small Miracles' Feat Mirari lastest single 'Extra Terrestrial' will be released on the Thursday 27th of July via Dirty Carrot Records.

A friend of mine in Montreal runs a teashop (shout out to Thésaurus Thérrarium, if you're ever in Montreal I recommend making a visit), and she also carries books by a local author. I picked up Small Miracles on an impulse - I'm a Discworld fan, and the jacket blurb from the New York Times comparing it to Pratchett was irresistible. I can confirm that comparison is accurate!

I had to stop reading every few paragraphs to read bits out loud to my husband. I was half-way done when I went to bed last night and had to finish it before I could focus on work this morning. The climax brought me to tears in the best possible way, when all the bits and bobs of ordinary moments scattered throughout the story come together into something so profoundly human it overflows, without ever losing that sense of delight and whimsy and a little bit of sarcasm.

Small Miracles is an absolute joy to read, and I have a feeling I'll be rereading it for years.

Mizumaの後に這って行きましたが、行って良かった。私たちの周りには不思議な力に満ちた世界があることを忘れていた。3階のグループ展もおススメします。追記: 広報のニァイズも解説していましたが、詰め込み過ぎない空間がいい。写真展を観た、というのとは別の、何か違う体験をしたような気がする。特に大きなスクリーンで観た《夜の星へ》は家にお持ち帰りしたかった。そして毎晩寝る前に観るのだ。すぐに夢の中へ旅立ちそうな気がする。
