I LOVED the previous Delicious in Dungeon opening (both the images/animation and music), it was awesome and I was kind of sad when they switched themes midway through the season. However, the second opening theme is kind of happily deranged and looks like all the characters are being Raptured at the end, which I also find hilarious.

I like this music video a lot, the character designs are wonderful, go through a lot of different styles to show the characters traveling through many different worlds, including an old school pixel art one. Very cool!

urg wait abt the music in dungeon meshi. i think the first op was soooo amazingg the sound is so kinda medieval it was really cool... i also like the second op but i realised lately that the cuter op would've probs fit better with the first half of the season but perhaps the first op was more engaging? that kinda serious op that Hooks you into the series... the choice to play that upbeat ed after That episode where you know Falin 💀 probs was just how things turned out, originally i thought it would be cooler if they put a more downcast ed there kinda like that madoka switch after mami's death (i think, it's been awhile lol) but upon thinking abt it more the juxtaposition of the horrifying and somber moment kinda reflects the series tone well and especially laios, some of the Things this Fukicng Guy says. like bro...... he has an interesting mind.

OP - Sleepwalking Orchestra

i just watched the (live filmed) donmar warehouse macbeth, and it really was fantastic. david tennant’s line delivery was so raw and naturalistic; cush jumbo’s lady macbeth was human and well-motivated. i think one of the best scenes for these two is the “was the hope drunk wherein you dressed yourself” scene; i could literally see the thoughts racing in david’s head, the way cush switches tactics swiftly and realistically, their chemistry, the characters’ psychological intimacy.

this production did a few things that i thought were new and noteworthy:

live orchestra—especially for the ceilidh dance, it really animated the production

brilliant use of sound—honestly enough said you gotta experience it to get it

the porter scene—randhawa really shined in this play, both as the porter and later as seyton. the porter scene is heavily edited, including improv, audience participation, & knock knock jokes, and it’s really fucking funny. it brought a liveliness and humor to that section of the play that is so often skipped because it simply isn’t very funny in the modern day. in joel cohen’s macbeth movie, they went for a more unsettling vibe to the porter, mostly relying on the hell references in his monologue—this one did both. he switched from drunk & witty to haunted & nearly inhuman at the flip of a dime, and it gave me chills.

emphasis on the natural world—they kept most of the dialogue about nature intact, and that tied together nicely with the projected bernam wood & malcolm’s speech of hope at the end. in contrast with the spare, monochrome set design & costuming, it was very striking and intense.

lady macbeth & lady macduff—substituting ross for lady m in the conversation with lady macduff set up a good emotional payoff for the “where is she now?” sleepwalking scene. additionally, lady macduff was given lennox’s lines at the end of act 2, and i enjoyed that quite a bit because it established her intensity and intuition, as well as gave macbeth a chance to interact with her. grounding lady macduff in different scenes with the macbeths really made her murder more emotionally affective.

lady m’s final lingering look at macbeth before exiting and not returning. i cannot stop thinking about it. that is all.

and most importantly of ALL of these things, the recurring motif of children/legacy was highly emphasized—the ghost of the macbeths’ dead child stands between them, fleance is given a deal of charm and presence, macbeth has a direct hand in the murder of macduff’s son, young siward truly is a child soldier, and one of the apparitions is literally birthed onstage. the fact that all of these roles are played by the same young actor is not only extremely impressive, but it also reveals yet another thing about macbeth’s interior world: all children are echoes of the child he lost.

the final aerial shot: this directly connects to the previous point, but i thought it was worth giving its own space. i don’t know how they did it, or if it was even intentional (it certainly feels as though it was), but as macbeth lies dead in a pool of blood, it seeps out from between his legs and (to me anyway) forms the silhouette of a person. recall the onstage birth of the apparition and the importance of kids in this show: it’s a brilliant symbol of macbeth’s legacy, of how he destroyed rather than creating, of how his very life force left his body in the shape of the thing he could never have. it was this final shot that really made this show for me the best interpretation i have ever seen.

Love when a band does an anime OP, and the band's music video for the full version goes the route of touching on similar visual motifs to the source material, without just straight up being the anime.

Bump of Chicken's Sleepwalking Orchestra is as much of a loveletter to old school RPGs as Delicious in Dungeon is.

Alright, I'm back in the stick figure hyperfixation and here's one thing. My hc's!

Purple's real name is Periwinkle. Green so far is the only one who knows his real name. He changed his name after his father left the family and his mother died afterwards. Walks with a limp thank to an old injury that didn't heal right.

Yellow and Blue are twins, best buds that almost do everything together and are the ones to end up in trouble.

Red is the youngest out of the color gang, though he's the strongest among his siblings. often spaces out sometimes.

Yellow has terrible eyesight and often gets headaches thanks to him trying to see. He once accidentally broke the pc thanks to his bad vision.

Green is the oldest among the color gang and the tallest, he likes to look around and observe before doing anything. Would love to go to an orchestra or a concert one day but for now he just settles with learning music his own way.

Orange (TSC) talks in his sleep and sometimes sleepwalks. There was once where he managed to sleep fight the others and won, the others still don't know how he did that, but they tried to keep his door closed so he doesn't wonder off, but he still somehow manages to get out.
