Experimentation continues with the E&P project, codenamed Titan. The two subjects seem to be recovering fine from the latest batch of serums that we’ve used. Some strange side effects have been recorded in about 30% of the other test cases. That’s 5% above the projected analysis quotient. We still need to refine some of the formulas for maximum transformation.

Current case study part 1: Subject P is slowly losing cognitive thought patterns and speech has become slurred. Body weight has more than doubled and epidermal density is beyond our expectations. Eye sight has also diminished but his strength ratio is off the charts.

Case study part 2: Subject E seems to be the complete opposite. Losing over 60% of his normal body weight, the cranial lobe and synaptic neural activity have tripled. Subject E seems to have developed a rapport with Subject P and we’ve begun to train them together just like the older symbiotic programs that were scrapped a few years ago.

Progress looks good for these two subjects. Their rapport is beginning to show great promise and their training is bearing new and exciting prospects for the program. See the enclosed video for more.

THE POST-MIDTERM SPECIAL

So, full disclosure, I’ve spent the last 18 days absolutely abysmally sick. Not in the covid soup-of-the-day way, but in my standard way, just a little bit worsened due to Circumstances. This is not to say that I’ve been slacking (I have been slacking on journal entries, but its cool, not excusing that.), but that I have shifted into overdrive. I have entered a cycle of violence.

Wake Up -> Be Sick -> Work On Stuff -> Go To Bed

In perpetuity. Also I got really into Fortnite? So that’s fun, I guess. Due to this cycle of illness-based violence, and also a genuine passion for the project (which quickly eclipsed other classes, and also like, my job?) I think the midterm came out pretty well! Since I don’t have my presentation, like, written out, I’ll just save some highlights. For posterity.

Above is my test level: the Bunny Hill. A pretty simple downward slide into madness, made to test the movement and collision of my little sledman.

My sled, internally referred to as DesperateToWork (on account of being my eightish attempt at a pawn that actually moves the way I want it to), is pretty simple. A rectangle, headlights, particle effects to imitate kicking up snow, a permeable hitbox, an invisible sphere that rolls for movement, a camera boomed to the back at a downward-angle. Its got it all!

Rider not included, due to actively crashing my game. More on that later.

(Also you can see my lazy trees that I built with cones and then used the foliage tool to propagate.)

Ramps! Obstacles! I’ve got ‘em! Turns out that all you need to do to make a ramp work is, like, have an object to roll over and launch you into the air. The ramp actor literally has no coding because it needs none. Kinda rules.

There was a slight issue, building this bad boy, that I found pretty funny: the collision on the terrain when it was a brush object was More precise than when I turned it into a static mesh, so the collision on that overlap point with the hill and the ramp was so bad it launched you straight into the air. Solution? I just... moved the hill’s collision down on the Z axis like, half a point. Sure, it means the sled is shallowly clipping into the ground, but its Supposed to be snow: I’m chalking this one up as immersion-building glitches. Or, perhaps, an active choice.

The second half of the hill. This is where I added some more Active Obstacles to get into the player’s (mine, and if you’re my professor reading this entry, your) way. They’re pretty simple.

Snowballs, which spawn at a set rate and roll after you. Turns out that they adapt to the dimensions of the spawner box, which means that I have some big boys, small boys, and lopsided boys.

This is it after I let it go for a couple minutes. Forgot to add a snowball despawner. That’s gonna suck for the ol frame rate. Anyway, there’s also moving platforms, standard stuff.

Artists in Adobe, Sledman - Once again the artist simply known as Sledman proves that no subject is unworthy of his meandering and weighty analysis as he throws yet another contender into this years’ already crowded adobe artistry genre. In Artists in Adobe, Sledman slowly, and at times in a painfully verbose and obtuse fashion brings us the beleaguered reader through his own take on the overanalyzed field of air-dried organic mud brick materials, barely a step-up from cob and rammed earth works. If you choose to heave this weighty tome around with you and (eventually) make it across the tired and well-trod finish line, I assume that you, like me, thinks that Sledman should go back to his roots to the shock artistry of tattooing kindergartners based on their verbal agreement and bringing thoughtful discourse to the subject of implied consent. Artists in Adobe, despite it’s incredible heft, simply does not deliver.

Windy City Blues, Sarah Paretsky - Kudos to Sarah Paretsky for peeling back the corner-curled veneer of the one-and-only internationally-famed and magical Windy City, Tulsa, Oklahoma, through the eyes of our favorite protagonist, Vance Hammer, Investigative Dentist. Vance is in a pickle, from his bicuspids to his incisors in trying to determine why all of his patients inexplicably develop a severe malaise that can only be categorized as advanced depression. No one is safe, from the leggy new AmGen Pharmaceuticals rep, Dolly Velvet, pushing their new signature line of laughless nitrous oxide, to good old Arthur Armlock, restorative dentistry CAD/CAM technician at the fabrication lab for crown and bridge restorations. Sarah extracts the essence of both Tulsa and the "pull-or-be-pulled" world of investigative dentistry, exposing the nerve at the root that leaves the reader braced to the point that no amount of Novocaine can dull.
