I thought that Kagekatsu(Kenshin's nephew and adopted son) being the older brother in the diary entries was a typo.
But it seems like they really made Kagekatsu Kenshin's brother. (Wouldn't Kagekatsu be quite old then, since Kenshin is supposed to be one of the older LIs???)
And there's Kagetora(Kenshin's adopted son and son of Hojo Ujiyasu) too. I suppose that he's not in Kenshin's route just for the sake of avoiding succession drama between the brothers.
Kiku isn't in Shingen's route for some reason. It would have been nicer if she was there. :')

How Far Luck May Travel (Modern Kenshin/Kagetora, for Julie on Julie Appreciation Day)
For the all-around sterling person @sengokugenkigirl , who I truly admire, adore, and always want to celebrate-- because she always deserves it! Happy Julie Appreciation Day, sweetest pea! THANK YOU FOR BEING YOU! YOU ARE GRRRRRR-REAT!
Kagetora/Modern Kenshin, I’d say... T rating? Nothing scandalous. I’m putting some scandalous stuff in my back pocket to add to this later. ;)
Beside you on the couch, Kagetora hummed in that particular way. When he wasn’t waxing poetic or lecturing students on flowers, he communicated mostly through touch, smiles, and hums.
You’d never been quite able to shake how much he reminded you of a fairy prince from a storybook you’d loved as a girl. Fingers long, hair a fall of glimmering silk, smile satisfied and mysterious. Even when he opened himself to you, when the sweet cobalt of his eyes met and held yours, when he was shuddering and connected to you as deeply as possible... there was something otherworldly and vaguely removed about this man. You’d catch him in your breakfast nook, a mug half tea and half syrup held still as he stared beyond the birds hopping on the fenceline. He would sort through flower stems on the table after your weekly trip to the farmer’s market, murmuring words you could never make out— when you’d asked him, sometime last year, charmed and lovedrunk on his every gesture, he’d given you a smile and a kiss sweeter than his tea, and you’d gone off giggling. It was hours before you realized he might have been trying to avoid the question.
There was definitely something of a lonely, beyond-the-now quality about the flower prince you loved. It concerned you from time to time. But it never made you stop loving him. Many nights, when you were sleepy or sex-sated in his arms, you’d trail your own fingers over the handsome swells of his chest-- for a florist, he spent a lot of time chasing the wind, sprinting along every running path in the city-- and you’d fall asleep dreaming of what your lives together would be like in a few years. In many years. You hoped you would be lucky enough to find out.
Luck, that was really what it came down to. Was it luck that someone like him would be with someone like you? You were a graduate student, dreamy on the inside, practical on the outside. You were cute, you knew it on your good days, but your looks weren’t those of a fairy princess. Could you ever match this fairy prince? The thought hovered in your mind through a busy summer, never quite a full-fledged worry but never quite settled, either.
“Kagetora,” you said softly, when he hummed but didn’t elaborate. You were both inside and freshly showered after time spent gardening together. You were hoping the brim of your sun hat had been wide enough to protect the base of your neck; the sun had made for sweaty work, but you’d enjoyed cold sweet tea from a thermos and peaceful shamisen music from Kagetora’s little bluetooth speaker as you tended to the flower beds. It made you smile now to think of how delighted he’d been when you gave it to him at Christmas. He’d proclaimed it a special treasure and you had kissed him and expected it would go into the guest room like so many other cherished items… but he used it daily. “Magic,” he’d say, with a wide, peaceful smile as he nodded in time with the beeps that signaled his phone was connected to the device. “Wonderful. Thank you, my darling.”
Now you were both clean and dressed in light cotton tunics. He was here on the couch with you, looking at some guide to color theory, humming.
“Kagetora,” you repeated, touching his arm gently. He turned to you, eyebrows up, expression guileless.“Why are you humming?” you asked.
He hummed again, and laughed when he realized. You smiled, committed to waiting out his whimsy this time. He didn’t make you wait long at all.
“I was thinking of you,” he said, pulling out the jacket flap of the book and closing it gently around the place marker. “Reading about the peach pink of roses, and thinking of you.”
Well, that was quite an answer. What on earth could you say to that? Your eyes went to your shoulder, pleased and not wanting to show how much.
“Like... here,” he said, fingertips brushing the apple of your cheek. When your eyes went back to his face, he looked well pleased. His deep blue eyes were narrowed from his smile, and you recognized the subtle glint of hunger in them. You felt it, too, the pull within your body, always so happy to be close to him.
The connectedness of the moment raised your hand and loosened your tongue. Fingers gently landing on his cheekbone and sweeping back into his hair, you confessed, “You feel so far away sometimes-- please don’t go so far you don’t come back.”
Even his blinking was that of ethereal royalty.
“Never,” he swore soothingly, fingers moving to trace the shell of your ear. He brought himself to you as he pulled you closer by the back of your head, your heart thumping so loudly you could hear it over the sounds of you both shifting on the couch.
“There are many wonders in this world,” Kagetora breathed against your lips, the words making kisses of contact between you. “I like to see them. But you are my favorite.”
He showed you, slowly, over the afternoon. He was so attentive you were dizzied, blinking in the lazy, torturous bliss he gave you. Every time you called his name he stopped what he was doing to kiss you and murmur love and promises right against your mouth, right into your soul. He made them specific, too, even mentioning the time you’d caught him staring at the birds. He didn’t want to go anywhere he couldn’t return from. Returning to you was the best part. He loved your sweetness and your spirit, your touch and your taste.
By the time night fell you felt like your skin must be glowing, and that you were a fit consort for the flower fairy you loved, after all. He had convinced you.
You still caught him gazing into the distance. In fact, it happened more frequently after that passionate afternoon of declarations and promises. But now you could step next to him and slide your fingers between his, and even if he didn’t look at you his expression would gentle. He would squeeze your hand. And he’d mouth “Hello, my favorite,” and eventually tell you what he was looking at, or for. You never had to press.
He had convinced you, indeed, and it unlocked some new magic between you. You began to let him in on your dreams, and he reveled in every admission, dreaming with you as much as you could, well, dream. He’d open your wishful thoughts up farther and wider, introducing you to possibilities you might never have considered without the gentle encouragement of his total disregard for rules or expense.
He was an odd, beautiful man. Perhaps there was something of the fairy about him. He could wander without leaving, but he never went so far he didn’t come back. You had many years together to learn what your lives would be like, and you had to marvel at the luck of that. But every night of those years, when your bodies were close and your whispers wound your souls together, you knew that unworthiness could never have brought you so far.
Does Kanetsugu chase him on those running paths? I THINK WE ALL KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION.
Tagging @tinydadkanetsugu and @han-pan -- thank you both so much for putting this together! Julie is a dream and deserves to be celebrated every day!

Summer of Smut Challenge 2021 - Day 1
It’s my first time writing anything that isn’t fluffy or angsty so please don’t be too harsh ^^ a late celebration of Pride month with a nice holiday abroad which I can’t have this year 🥲
Prompt: Popsicle Licking
Otome: SLBP (what a surprise), AU-ish (same universe as the final-final epilogues)
Ship: Suitor x NPC (Kenshin x Kanetsugu)
Warning: Oral sex (not particularly graphic)
Roman Holiday
“Here, Kagetora...” the dark-haired man handed the packaged popsicle to his companion, who looked up to him from behind his glasses, smiling gently. It was a change for Kanetsugu, who was the shorter of the two men, but he reluctantly took a seat next to him on the Spanish steps all the same, the Roman heat still intense even as the sun began to set.
Kagetora opened his popsicle, the movements of his elegant fingers carefully observed by the other man. “Strawberry, huh?” he commented, as he sucked on a corner of it. Kanetsugu had a flashback from a previous life for a moment: Kagetora in his lilac kimono, his hair longer, biting into a skewer of dango at a tea house on one leisure trip or another, the same delighted expression on his face.
“I’m glad we took them on this trip” he said, trying to distract himself from that thought, the pain of an unrequited love that spanned 500 years unbearable. Kagetora looked at the younger people, throwing coins and making wishes by the fountain as they had done at every fountain they passed that day, which was a lot.
“Families that travel together stay together” replied Kagetora, before returning to sucking on his popsicle. Kanetsugu couldn’t help but notice the reddened lips, as if Kagetora had been wearing lipstick. He liked the enhanced femininity on the other man’s androgynous features, even though he never wished he had been a woman even 500 years prior, when loving a man would not have been as accepted as it was in the present day.
“I love that you think of us as a family...” he smiled, turning back towards the fountain.
“Of course I do. And families share, what flavour did you get?”
“Something called cedrata. Sort of a bitter lemon I guess?” Kanetsugu handed it to him.
Kagetora smiled at the clumsy attempt to pronounce Italian and leaned in, licking the popsicle still in Kanetsugu’s hand. The other man blushed at the sensual gesture and even more seductive look in his eyes, and he smirked: “You’re so cute when you blush.”
“Cute is not exactly what a grown man wants to be called” Kanetsugu sighed, resignedly. He had spent all his anger reserved for Kagetora when he was his retainer trying to get him to work. They called him the demon of Kasugayama back then.
Kagetora leaned in to whisper: “Sometimes I find you cute, and sometimes I think you’re hot. Right now I wish I had tasted the popsicle from your lips instead”. When Kanetsugu turned to look at him, he was met with mischief all over Kagetora’s face.
“I wish you wouldn’t tease me so”, he sighed.
“I’m not” Kagetora took Kanetsugu’s hand in his, lacing their fingers together before leaning in again “wait up for me once everyone has gone to bed. Your popsicle is not the only thing I want to lick tonight.”
Kanetsugu knew he must have been blushing even harder, as his mind went straight to something he had only dreamed of, never daring to hope a day would come when he’d feel his tongue running circles around his manhood, his lips gently sucking on it like they were sucking on that popsicle, his fingers fondling his testicles... He shook himself out of his reverie as he heard his younger brother’s voice closer and closer as the group joined them again. How was he supposed to last the rest of the evening with all that anticipation for the night ahead? Something in Kagetora’s smile told him that sweet, sweet torture had been his intention all along...

Childhood names of samurai lordlings
For Ikesen and SLBP fanwork creators. Feel free to use or not use.
Because I think childhood names are really cute and I want more people to use them instead of the adult names :>
Girls names are usually used as-is, but samurai boys change their name at least once.
(If you can’t see the “read more” for some reason, I put a cut under Toshiie’s spawns, so please open this post in a new tab or something for the full list)
Nobu’s babies
- Kimyoumaru (Nobutada)
- Chasenmaru (Nobukatsu)
- Sanshichi/Kanpachi (Nobutaka)
Hideyoshi’s babies
- Tsurumatsu
- Hiroimaru (Hideyori)
- Ishimatsumaru (this child we’re not sure actually exist or not)
Ieyasu’s babies
- Takechiyo (Nobuyasu)
- Otsugimaru (Hideyasu)
- Choumatsu/Takechiyo (Hidetada)
Toshiie's babies
- Inuchiyo (Toshinaga)
- Matawakamaru (Toshimasa)
- Saruchiyo/Inuchiyo (Toshitsune)
(Mitsunari’s kids’ childhood names are all unknown)
Masamune’s
- Toragikumaru (Tadamune)
- Heigorou (Hidemune) *) TBH I think this is an alias, not childhood name, but oh well
- Gonpachirou (Munekiyo)
Yukimura
- Oohachi (Morinobu)
- Sajirou (Yukinobu)
Akechi
- Ankomaru
- Genrin (?)
We’re not entirely sure WHO Akechi’s son are because different documents listed different names. The only person whose identity is clear is his daughter Tama, a.k.a Hosokawa Gracia. Everyone else are either unnamed or just not-well-known enough to have much info on them.
Shingen
(-rou names are typically alias, not middle name, but... what do I know)
- Tarou (Yoshinobu)
- Jirou (Nobuchika)
Kenshin
- Umatsu (Kagekatsu)
- Seidoumaru/Chikuoumaru (Kagetora)
Kojuro
- Yazaemon/Samon (Shigenaga) *) Also sounds like an alias, but this is the only one I can find. Everyone else are unknown.
Shigezane
- Kozoumaru (died young)
- Katsushikimaru (Munezane) *originally Masamune’s son, adopted by Shigezane
Nobuyuki
- Senchiyo (Nobuyoshi)
- Momosuke(?) (Nobumasa)
Kennyo
- Chachamaro (Kyounyo)
- Akomaru (Kenson)
- Asamaro (Junnyo)
Yoshimoto
- Tatsuoumaru (Ujizane)
- Ichigetsu Choutoku (he is a monk, not sure if he had any childhood names)
Motonari
- Tokujumaru (Takakage)
- Shounotarou (Takamoto)
- Shounojirou (Motoharu)
Takamoto and Motoharu’s names are probably aliases too, since they match Motonari’s own alias. But it’s fine to use it like that, I guess, because that’s what being listed in websites.

One of the other blogs here told me that Cybird's game Ikémen sengoku has the same characters/same era as slbp, so I was wondering if you had any brief historical info for a young pleb such as myself 👀
Cybird’s Ikemen Sengoku has a similar premise to their game Destined to Love: you’re out somewhere minding your business and then you mysteriously do the time warp again.
The starting point of the Sengoku period can vary depending on who you’re talking to, but for most it’s 1467 when the Onin war (1467-1477) broke out over who would be next in line after shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa. And for others, it’s 1490, the year Hosokawa Katsumoto, a deputy of the shogun, snatched up power.
At this point, the samurai have long since stepped in to keep order. The introduction of the first Europeans to arrive in Japan, the Portuguese, changed how battles were fought. In particular, was how clans Oda and Tokugawa combined forces, using their European arquebuses to decimate the Takeda by staggering reload and firing times. In no time at all, Japanese smiths were able to reproduce the mechanism in the muskets and manufactured similar firearms.
The Portuguese also traded goods from China with the Japanese, such as silk, porcelain, soap and tobacco, among other things, which was forbidden by the emperor due to the many attacks by pirates. This was called the Nanban trade.
By the way, the Portuguese slave trade also extended to Japan, with the Portuguese purchasing slaves and sending them to other nations including Portugal. Large amounts of Japanese women, and girls as well, were purchased for sex and sold as slaves.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi was livid with this practice, wanted the enslavement of his people to end. He wanted the slaves who were sold to be returned, and wrote a letter to Gaspar Coelho, a Portuguese missionary and leader of the Christian contingent in Japan. Hideyoshi had him scared up in the middle of the night to answer for it. Hideyoshi made it clear that Coelho and the others were to get out of Japan.
Unfortunately, it didn’t end there, and there is so much going on around this time, so instead let’s go to the men of Cybird’s Ikemen Sengoku:
Click here for eargasm. I have no idea what Nobunaga and Mitsuhide said, but they can say it again and again.
There are three men who are considered to have unified Japan. They are, in order: Oda Nobunaga, Toyotomi Hideyoshi, and Tokugawa Ieyasu.
Before his death in 1582, Nobunaga was able to conquer a third of the daimyō. In 1590, Hideyoshi unified all of Japan and became its first leader. And in 1603, Ieyasu set himself up as shogun, founding the Tokugawa shogunate
A famous idiom is “Nobunaga pounds the national rice cake, Hideyoshi kneads it, and in the end Ieyasu sits down and eats it.”
Below: Oda Nobunaga on the left and Tokugawa Ieyasu on the right:
Oda Nobunaga was the second son of Oda Nobuhide and his legitimate successor, being the oldest legitimate son. He had a penchant for ignoring his societal rank and enjoyed playing with children his age across the social strata.
With the death of his father, the were a power struggle in the Oda clan, which was under Shiba Yoshimune to begin with. When Nobunaga stepped in to rule, his uncle, Oda Nobutomo, had Yoshimune murdered for his support of Nobunaga.
Nobunaga would spend much of his live trying to attain, maintain, and exert military control in his attempt to unify Japan.
He found himself betrayed many times, but it was his trusted ally Akechi Mitsuhide who finally got the drop on him and it is not known if Nobunaga was killed in Akechi Mitsuhide’s ambush or if Nobunaga committed seppuku. This was known as the Honnō-ji incident.
Tokugawa Ieyasu spent much of his young life as a hostage of both the Oda and the Imagawa.
Nobuhide proposed killing Ieyasu, who was 5 at the time, if Tokugawa Hirotada, Ieyasu’s father, did not cut ties with the Imagawa clan, but Hirotada refused. Rather than killing Ieyasu, Nobuhide kept him as a hostage of the Oda clan and sent him to Nagoya where he remained in a temple for three years.
With the murder of Hirotada by his own men, and Nobuhide succumbing to an illness, Oda Nobunaga took power. In agreement with Imagawa Sessai, who promised to draw his armies back if he was given Ieyasu, Nobunaga handed the young boy over, thereby making him a hostage yet again. This time Ieyasu was taken to Sunpu where he remained from ages 9-13.
While he did have occasional conflict with the Oda clan, Ieyasu would become one of Oda’s strongest allies.
After becoming shogun, Ieyasu made his power inheritable, and in doing so, established a military government that would last for almost three hundred years.
Cybird’s Destined to Love features his descendant Tokugawa Yoshinobu (Keiki), the last shogun Japan would see.
Below: Takeda Shingen on the left and Uesugi Kenshin on the right
A descendant of the Minamoto clan, Shingen, who was given the name Harunobu at his coming of age ceremony, would be called Minamoto Harunobu in imperial records. He received the dharma name Shingen after the completion of his Buddhist training. The kanji for Shingen can also be pronounced Harunobu, so in a sense, he received the same name twice.
Ashikaga Yoshiharu, the 12th shogun, gave a character from his name to Shingen, which was an honor, and Shingen attained the second one through his own merit.
We don’t know the exact reason why Shingen, the firstborn son, rebelled against his father, but it’s thought that his father, Nobutora, may have wanted to give power to his second son, Nobushige. Nobutora was forced into retirement and sent away to be under the watchful eye of the Imagawa. This formed an alliance between the Imagawa and the Takeda.
Strife in the Takeda clan did not end there, as not only his first cousin, but his own son plotted to take his life.
Shingen’s feud with Kenshin began with Shingen’s attempt to gain control of Shinano. The warlords in the area were already involved in a battle and, making the most of the confusion, Shingen did not have much trouble in winning.
Upon adoption into the Uesugi clan, Nagao Kagetora changed his name several times before becoming known as Uesugi Kenshin. He had control over the Echigo province, which was afforded a better standard of living due to Kenshin’s increasing the growth of local trade.
He believed in Bishamonten, the Buddhist god of war, and was even called his avatar by his followers.
Legend has it that Kenshin burst into Shingen’s war ten on horseback and attacked him. Caught off guard, Shingen successfully parried Kenshin’s sword with his war fan.
Below: Sanada Yukimura on the left and Sarutobi Sasuke on the right
Yukimura’s actual name is Nobushige, after Shingen’s younger brother. Historically, he was never referred to as Yukimura. Novels and plays written about him in the Edo period refer to him as Yukimura, though.
Although the Sanada army was small, they succeeded in winning many battle. With the death of his uncles, his father inherited the clan. However, with the destruction of the Takeda clan, the Sanada surrendered to Oda.
After the Honnō-ji incident, the Sanada had no masters, as so tried to find their place serving a number of clans including the Uesugi, Hōjō, and Tokugawa, before becoming vassals of the Toyotomi.
Yukimura himself was known by many colorful names including The Crimson Demon and Number One Warrior in Japan, among others.
Sarutobi Sasuke was not a real person. He is part of the fictional Sanada Ten Braves, who helped Yukimura in battle, in novels written by Sanada Sandaiki.
The fictitious Sanada Ten Braves, are:
Sarutobi Sasuke
Kirigakure Saizo
Miyoshi Seikai
Miyoshi Isa
Anayama Kosuke
Unno Rokuro
Kakei Juzo
Nezu Jinpachi
Mochizuki Rokuro
Yuri Kamanosuke
Below: Toyotomi Hideyoshi on the left and Ishida Mitsunari on the right
Upon Nobunaga’s death, Hideyoshi was successful in ending the warring states. Although he rose through the ranks from humble beginnings, he placed restrictions on who could become a samurai after gaining power. The period of his rule is called the Momoyama period and is named after his castle.
He is responsible for the death by crucifixion of twenty-six martyrs, three of whom were young boys.
Ishida Mitsunari, whose childhood name was Sakichi, was a military commander and leader of the bureaucrats under Hideyoshi.
Below: Akechi Mitsuhide on the left and Date Masamune on the right
Mitsuhide was the first under Nobunaga to receive a castle. After betraying Nobunaga, Mitsuhide’s rule as shogun lasted only 13 days before his death. He is believed to have been killed, although there is a rumor that he lived out his life as a monk.
Masamune became the leader of his clan at the age of 17 following his father Terumune’s retirement.
Under Hideyoshi, the new ruler, Masamune found the size of his land reduced and even feared execution. He dressed in his finest clothes expecting to die, only to have Hideyoshi say that he may be of some use.
At the behest of Katakura Kojuro, Masamune supported Ieyasu, who in turn, increased the size of Masamune’s land.
A patron of the arts, Masamune founded the city of Sendai. Due to his ambitious and aggressive nature, he was sometimes viewed with suspicion, but he served both Hideyoshi and Ieyasu faithfully.
Below: Kōsa, also known as Hongan-ji Kennyo (or Ken’nyo)
The Hongan-ji refers to several things. Ken’nyo, as Cybird spells it, was an Abbott who Shingen turned to for aid against his rivals, Oda, Tokugawa and Uesugi.

Preview of the first batch of lords for Tenka’s special AU event series. Basically these lords end up in Kyoto for one reason or another and meet MC at the dojo. Some use alias: Nobu (Saburo), Saizo (Genji = from Yukkin’s middle name Genjiro, hurhurhur saiyukkin). Some use their old names: Kenshin (Kagetora) and Shingen (Harunobu). Some keep their SLBP names: Inuchiyo and Kojuro.
WHYYYYYY CANT KOJURO BE KAGETSUNA HUUUUHHH? The intro says it’s when younger Kojuro starts serving Masamune and they have yet to forge the bond they have now on SLBP. (Shigezane made a comment : you (Masa and Koju) didn’t talk much then. So why cant he used Kagetsuna in this AU. It’s such a lovely name *sobs*

Speaking of... I know I posted this on Twitter but I don’t think I posted this here yet.
Part of the LOL Tenka/SLBP “AU sequel” thing I like to draw, featuring the lords’ sons. Them poor spawns need more love
Katsuyori is Shingen’s son, Kagetora is Kenshin’s adopted son.
Kagetora is originally a Hojo, so I made him look like Hojo Ujiyasu. I have a sneaking suspicion Ujiyasu IS actually the Tenka version of Kagetora, but whatever. He can be grown-up Ujiyasu too.
It’s gonna be interesting designing Hidetada and Hideyori, derp

I looked through your Tenka Chorus tag and honestly I'm a little in love? Would you mind elaborating on it a bit--perhaps the premise and stuff? I love your drawings!
Yay! I’m happy you love my little lordlings.
Originally I’m just drawing Nobuspawns because I love them LOLOLOL. Then I thought it would be fun to make a pretend-sequel and made other lordlings.
I wanted it to be “encore” because Love BALLAD, you know, but with Nobuspawns and Katsuyori (probably Kagetora too) their story overlaps their fathers’, so “chorus”. LOLOLOL.
The last pair that I haven’t drawn, Hidetada and Hideyori, are pretty out there, because generation gap with the other lordlings, but eh... Tenka/SLBP made Yukkin and Masa work, so I can always age-up them.
Mm, I wanted the “theme” to be arts (like poetry or dance or tea ceremony) instead of food, so the MC is a travelling artist/performer. And the “cooking contest” will be instead a “workshop” haha, producing items like fans or tea bowls or Noh masks (not sure if I want to include swords hehehe)
The MC is in the capital, then she heard assassins plotting to kill the lordlings (or their father). Like, the MC hears the assassins going, “So, remember, our target is...” Then that’s where the route split as she goes to find the lords to inform them of the plot. Something like that, maybe?
I guess she then comes with them because she needs a more steady job or something, haha.
