"Factory Farming: Cruelty Impacting Humans, Animals, and the Planet"
Factory farming, the industrialized production of livestock, has dire consequences for humans, animals, and the planet. For animals, it means a life of suffering in overcrowded, unsanitary conditions, often without access to natural behaviors or environments. Chickens, pigs, and cows endure unimaginable stress, injuries, and premature deaths, all for the sake of maximizing efficiency and profit.
For humans, factory farming poses significant health risks. The overuse of antibiotics in livestock to promote growth and prevent disease leads to antibiotic-resistant bacteria, posing a serious threat to public health. Workers in these facilities face dangerous conditions, exposure to harmful chemicals, and exploitative labor practices. Furthermore, communities near factory farms suffer from polluted air and water, leading to respiratory problems and other health issues.
Environmentally, factory farming is a major contributor to climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss. It generates large amounts of greenhouse gases, particularly methane from cattle, which significantly impacts global warming. Additionally, the industry consumes vast quantities of water and contributes to soil degradation and water pollution through runoff of animal waste and chemicals.
In summary, factory farming's quest for profit comes at an enormous cost to animal welfare, human health, and the environment. Sustainable and humane alternatives are essential for a healthier, more ethical future.

People think that animals are less than us and that they were put on this earth to eat, but that was simply not true at all. They don't willingly let you torture them to death and slit their necks while they're still alive, thrashing desperately in agony and fear. If animals were put on this planet to eat, then why do they cry real tears and cry out in distress and fear on their way to being killed? If they were put on this earth to eat, why do they feel the same pain we do and express their terror when being abused, tortured, and slowly killed in slaughterhouses? There will never be an excuse to eating animals, dead OR alive. Because either way, the animal suffered greatly, and never got an apology, because of the total selfishness of the consumers, government, and slaughterhouse workers. To fix the world, we must start with our hearts, and know that what we eat, drink, and use isn't for ourselves, but for the animals that are forced to suffer terribly everyday until their death, the ones that have their children ripped from them at birth, and the ones that get gas chambered alive to suffer so you can eat your nasty piece of bacon! Veganism rules!!! 💓💓💓

Hello, I was wondering if you could write something for Thomas Hewitt. I mean if you don't want that's fine and things. You don't have too. But if you do I was thinking about something like the reader is like a baker and like maybe they worked near him when the slaughterhouse was actually open and up for business. If you do this thank you. Also have a nice day!
Of course, kitten. Thank you for your request! Have a nice day, drink water qnd and eat well, remember about your health please ♡
Thomas Hewitt x baker!reader
• You've always enjoyed cooking for as long as you can remember. At first it was something simple, but these dishes were already very tasty. Over time, you realized that you wanted to do only buns and various cakes.
• You lived in a small town in Texas where rumors spread very quickly and everyone knew each other. Your baking became popular very quickly, dozens of people came to you every day and small children came running in the hope of eating something new and delicious.
• You knew about the Hewitt family, and they even visited your bakery a couple of times. He was usually a tall, muscular guy with long hair, as you found out later, Thomas. Despite his rough appearance, he was always quite timid and shy when he placed an order at your bakery. The guy couldn't talk, so usually his mom would write him a note. Over time, you yourself began to understand what he needed to buy. Thomas seemed like a very nice and caring guy to you. From time to time, he would come to your bakery no longer for bread or anything else, but just to see you, and bring with him a slightly careless bouquet of wildflowers. It was so sweet. And even though you saw how other residents of the city looked at him, you didn't care. You even gave Thomas various buns and cakes 'just for his beautiful eyes'. It was very confusing for the guy.
• Thomas stood at the counter with his head down, long dark hair covering his face, hiding his bright maroon cheeks. The guy's eyes ran wildly across the floor, feeling his own heart beating loudly in his chest, and his hands nervously fingered the edge of his shirt. You always made him blush, he doesn't know why.
• Before, Thomas, most of the time, didn't care about his appearance, after all, he just went to work. But now, every time Luda sent him to your bakery, Thomas tried to look neat and tidy, he began to take care of his clothes and other things. Now he could be seen with his long hair tied in a low ponytail.
• The guy really liked your baking. When you got closer, you even let him into your kitchen. The man was sitting good on a chair, just watching your gentle movements and enthusiasm for cooking. He was delighted when you gave him a taste of cream or dough. Thomas was also happy to help you if you needed it.
• The man has always been surprised by your passion for cooking. And he also didn't understand how you could cook so beautifully, he had never eaten anything so delicious in his life. If Thomas was the epitome of cruelty and brute force, then you looked like a gentle fairy godmother who always gives warmth and care around.
• When the city eventually emptied, you surprisingly did not want to leave this place. And you've become attached to Thomas. It all happened so fast that you didn't even have time to figure out how it happened. And so, you were already at the Hewitt house, standing in the kitchen, once again cooking some sweet masterpiece, and Thomas was standing behind, gently hugging your waist. He loved your pastries and sweets. But his favorite sweet was you. And although you didn't like their lifestyle, you were happy to brighten up their cruel lives with your sweets. You even sold them in Mrs. Hewitt's shop, which she was very happy about, because they bought your cakes very well.

Damian Wayne "The Robin of Pets"
Just as Bruce seems to have a compulsion to adopt children, Damian seems to have inherited that gene but when it comes to pets, which are quite numerous and of all sizes and colors which are:
🐶 Tɪᴛᴜs ᴛʜᴇ Gʀᴇᴀᴛ Dᴀɴᴇ
To strengthen their father-son bond, Bruce adopted a puppy as a gift in an effort to instill empathy for others in Damian. Although Damian was initially less than enthusiastic about the idea and was even distant simply calling him "dog," over time they became very close and best friends, eventually naming him after the Shakespearean literary hero.
• First appearance: Batman and Robin #2 (2011)
🐭 Sᴘᴏᴛᴛʏ ᴛʜᴇ Rᴀᴛ
Spotty is a small spotted mouse who lives in the sewers of Gotham and Damian greets him every time he visits those places.
• First appearance: Batman and Robin #13 (2011)
🐮 Bᴀᴛᴄᴏᴡ
After a mission in a slaughterhouse, Damian decides to adopt his peculiar bovine friend and even after witnessing the cruelty in those places he decides to become a vegetarian.
• First appearance: Batman Incorporated #1 (2012)
😺 Aʟꜰʀᴇᴅ ᴛʜᴇ Cᴀᴛ
Pennyworth adopted this one for Damian from a shelter. Damian was somewhat skeptical as he believed he could not keep it for long, but upon seeing the kitten's personality he was captivated and named it after the person who gave it to him.
• First appearance: Batman Incorporated #6 (2012)
🦃 Jᴇʀʀʏ ᴛʜᴇ Tᴜʀᴋᴇʏ
Batman and Robin ruin the Penguin's attempt to ruin Thanksgiving thanks to Damian's trumpet. That's where he meets his feathered friend, who under the name of Jerry joins the Batfamily dinner. As a invited, not as the main course, don't worry.
• First appearance: Li'l Gotham #2 (2012)
 Gᴏʟɪᴀᴛʜ ᴛʜᴇ Dʀᴀɢᴏɴ-ʙᴀᴛ
During one of the League of Assassins' tests in the Year of Blood, Damian is sent to exterminate a population of Dragon-bats and just when he is finishing the objective, a small puppy moves Damian to the core because the little one, instead of hating him for what he did, it tries to console him. That's how he decides to keep him as a "trophy" and his most loyal pet.
• First appearance: Robin - Son of Batman #1 (2015)
🐉 Wɪɢɢʟᴇs ᴛʜᴇ Jᴀᴘᴀɴᴇsᴇ Dʀᴀɢᴏɴ
During a joint mission with Nightwing in the country of the rising sun, Damian meets a dragon that helps them defeat criminals. Upon returning to Gotham, this huge friend ends up in the Batcave with Goliath and Batcow. Wiggles does not have a name during the course of the adventure but in an interaction between one of the writers and a fan he ends up being named as Wiggles the Japanese dragon. (click on the underlining text for context)
• First appearance: Nightwing #42 (2016)

You know, Carrie probably stuck around in the public consciousness in a much more active way on Earth Bet than it did in our own universe.
Think about it: Carrie - the novel - was published in 1974, and it was in 1987 when the active parahumans at the time decided to go public. We can assume that, because they could decide to go public in the first place, there were probably not that many parahumans around at the time, but even so, there had to be some people with powers by that point. So that's our baseline: 1987 is when people had powers.
1974 to 1987 is a little over a decade, which is a while, don't get me wrong, but it also isn't really enough time for something as widely popular as Carrie to fully leave public consciousness, like how there are plenty of books from the mid-2000s and early-2010s that sold well enough to stick around as something people are aware of and talk about in 2023.
Seeing as how the emergence of powers seemed to ramp up after 1987 in the Worm universe, it likely was not that long (late-80s, early-90s) until you had a mass casualty event which echoed the events that transpired in Carrie. Some kid in highschool going postal with powers nobody thought were possible and had no reason to expect.
I mean, shit, technically the Slaughterhouse 9 was around in 1987.
And people would want to look for some way to contextualize that, to understand horrible tragedy like that, or just find a reference frame for it, and waiting for them, as if by design, would be Carrie, which was likely not even fully out of the public consciousness by this point. A story that has paranormal elements that aren't quite mystical, where the powers are fantastical but the situation itself is almost mundane in its cruelty and ends in a lot of dead teenagers.
I can only imagine Carrie reasserted itself in mainstream culture at that point.
I never really dwelled on Taylor making a reference to Carrie back in the story. I could put two-and-two together. But I imagine her thinking that probably carries a whole lot more weight in her world, where that shit can and almost certainly has happened, then it would here, where Carrie is mainly known for being a good novel that kickstarted Stephen King's career, and where "going Carrie" is an evocative phrase, but nothing more than that.
It also makes me wonder what kind of existential crisis Stephen King would have gone through in Earth Bet. Imagine being The Guy Who Predicted The Horrors.
#worm#parahumans#analysis#i guess?#carrie#also i guess?#im not sure if my thoughts here got across well#sometimes i just like to sit and think about all the weird culture stuff going on in earth bet

Rooster
TW for animal cruelty (non-graphic image below the cut)
****
To that rooster in its cage: I'm sorry. I wish I could do something for you. I cannot imagine how it feels to be chained up beside so many of your fellows, so tight that your feathers stick out of the bars. I cannot imagine how it feels to have your feet dig into the wire floor, with no padding except for your fellow sufferers' feathers. I cannot imagine how it feels to stick your head out and caw over and over again until they take you out to the back and chop your head off and throw your bones unceremoniously into a trash bin.
And so I do the only thing I can. I weep for you. I weep and cry and sob in the restaurant where you sit, displayed as a draconian decoration. I weep into my noodles whose broth is made with your sibling's flesh.
It tastes like blood now.
To the friends I ate with: I know that worse is occurring in the farms and slaughterhouses. I know this is just how it is. I know this is life. You do not need to tell me, do not need to laugh at me, do not need to call me weak.
Is it so wrong that I feel grief over that rooster's suffering? Is it wrong that I should have empathy for a being whose sole purpose is to be food? Is it wrong that I would eat that rooster without a second thought, and yet hurt such at its suffering?
It is not death I object to. It is not the eating I object to. It is the in-between, the cramped cage and the torn feathers and the sores that must lie under that scraggly downy.
Bad enough that we eat their flesh, that we raise them and kill them callously. Must we torment them the entire way? Surely they've suffered enough. Surely a good, food-filled life followed by a swift death is what they are worthy of. Surely, you must feel something, seeing their bodies pressed tight against the cage.
Bad enough that they are placed outside for all to gawk at. Must we turn it into a gold star, a thing to celebrate? They call it proof of authenticity. They call it the traditional way of doing things, meaning the better way. I call it torture, senseless, cruel, evil torture.
Bad enough that this is how life is. Must we take grim pride in it? It may be that I live in a world where we eat and kill to survive. It may be that the rooster I saw was just one of the trillions suffering. It may be so, but why should I enjoy that misery?
I look at the cage and its bars envelope me. I glance at the shadows light casts on my flesh and see scars from the metal biting into flesh on my bare skin. I look into the rooster's eyes and see myself reflected in them.
To that rooster in its cage: I'm sorry. I wish I could have saved you.
****
the roosters in question:

Monsters Reimagined: Asmodeus, Lord of all Hells
I think I know what may be happening....You’re trying to atone me, and I didn’t do anything wrong...You want to know what I’ve always hated about mortals? why I spit on your forgiveness, why I loathe your redemption? To reach a hand down to somebody they need to be beneath you,
And I’m Beneath Nobody.
Brennan Lee Mulligan as Asmodeus for Exandria Unlimited: Calamity
@pikablob was asking about my ideas on devils and mentioned Asmodeus in the process, and while I’ve already done a monster’s reimagined on devils, I figured it was a good opportunity to talk about my take on the biggest of big bads. To summarize, I like to go back to the mythological roots of devils less as agents of a universal evil but as individual manifestations of judgment, looking to test or punish mortals for their failings. This ( along with Brennan’s showstopping performance in calamity) gave me the idea of an Asmodeus as the ultimate critic of mortalkind, an entity that can see all of our flaws and nothing of our virtues.
TLDR: There are many evil gods, wicked things that preside over cruelty and misfortune in all its forms, but there are few that would claim to be the god of evil itself. Though to hear the lord of all hells tell it, there is nothing touched by mortals that is NOT evil: no act that is not in some way rooted in self interest, no moment of self determination that is not a transgression, no soul that is not some way corrupted. To allow the Father of Sin into your heart is to accept that people are fundamentally wicked creatures deserving of punishment, and that punishment cannot come soon enough.
Bio: Ruling from the lowest depths of the pit, Asmodeus sits a throne surveying an empire built on torture and damnation and deems it insufficient. There is evil in the multiverse and that evil is called mortals, things gifted with the tiniest spark of life who every day choose the wickedness of existence. His purpose is to be the scourge that drives the animal towards the slaughterhouse, to take hold of mortal life and shape it into useful purpose, with the only useful purpose being the ultimate destruction of all wicked things
The hypocracy of being an evil god punishing evil does not for a moment shake Asmodeus. Spirits cannot choose their nature, nor can animals, but mortals which live in the intersection choose to be evil every day, and worse yet, have the capability to choosing evil at any time. In spite of his divine status, and in many ways because of it, Asmodeus is actually incapable of perceiving good in mortals, believing that good intentions or earnest affection are yet more lies and hasty justifications that mortals buffer themselves with to excuse their faults and selfish action. None can then judge the atrocities he commits because none are without sin, even if to find that sin he needs to peel back layers of causality and unconscious feelings to find a thread of wrongdoing.
To purge the universe of the blight of mortals Asmodeus cultivates power and fear: Power in the form of legions of devils and devoted servants who’s hateful hearts he feeds like a furnace, fear in the form of agents which sow division in mortal hearts and a myriad of private hells filled with infinite forms of torment.
Swear to serve Asmodeus, say his mouthpieces, and you will be spared the infinite torment when the boot on your neck breaks through to your spine, or when his hordes come to put your home to the torch. Give up on the falsehoods of hope, love, and kindness, visit punishment on others and you may be rewarded for your service
Behind the scenes: I’ve talked quite a lot about how d&d uses the idea of objective evil as a staple of its worldbuilding, and how in doing so it ends up falling face first into pro genocide rhetoric. In attempting to make badguys that the party is 1000% justified in killing on sight it ends up stumbling into some very fucked up thought experements. Monsters in vanilla d&d arn’t just evil because they do bad things, but they do bad things because they are inherently evil: They pillage, they enslave, they despoil, not because these things benefit them ( as it invariably gets them killed by adventurers) but because these acts serve as an outlet for their wicked natures.
If our heroes’ enemies are fundamentally evil, then any action which opposes them must be good, and any pillaging, enslaving, or despoiling the party does can be excused provided the targets belong to the designated ingroup. This is almost identical to the reasoning that was used by crusaders, conquistadors, slave owners, and fascists, and what is now being used by the evangelical to deny people rights and life-saving aid to this day.
What I wanted with Asmodeus was an entity that looked at the party like a group of murderhobos look at an orc: an ugly brutish thing that is only useful in so far as its suffering and death can benefit them. Maybe it’ll be funny if they make it beg for its life. The party feel they’re justified in this because they know the orc is objectively evil ( because the books said so), just like Asmodeus is justified in plucking the souls from mortals and making them suffer for eternity because he knows, in his flawed omniscience, that they are deserving of it.
Signs: The sounds of tortured souls wailing from below, symbols of power glowing red hot, the manifestations of lesser devils.
Symbols: A five pointed star made of jagged metal, a black throne or crown atop numerous bodies.
