Angel from Slasher Season 3

I cannot stand Angel from Slasher Season 3. He is the biggest piece of shit.

Angel has a problem with boundaries:

1. He uses Kit’s spare key to gain access to his apartment: in episode 2, Angel brings a bottle of wine to Kit’s door. He knocks, but Kit doesn’t answer. He uses Kit’s spare key, placed above his door, to open the door and gain access. He sees Kit and Cassidy having sex and then just stares at them in shock, while gripping a corkscrew so hard that his hand starts to bleed. This scene creeped me out for a number of reasons. First, you don’t use someone’s spare key to get into their apartment. If they are not answering the door they probably just want to be alone and even if you think that they cannot hear you, you still don’t have a right to use their key to gain access. Kit didn’t give that key to Angel. It was his spare key that he kept above his door. Also why didn’t Angel just call before strolling over there with a bottle of wine? He acted like he was Kit’s boyfriend when he was just a hookup. He was utterly possessive.

2. He kept confronting Kit about his other lovers: In a flashback we see Kit getting ready for the Solstice in Angel’s apartment. Angel confronts him yet again about sleeping with other people. It seems that Kit has been upfront about how he feels about monogamy. He mentions that Angel always knew that he had other sexual partners. Angel then tries to guilt Kit into monogamy:

“You’re bucking other people.”[Angel]

“We’ve already talked about this.”[Kit]

“Do you have any idea what that does to me?”[Angel]

“I don’t need to know. No.”[Kit]

I was so glad that Kit refused to let Angel make him responsible for his feelings. Kit was open and honest with Angel, but Angel developed feelings for him and wanted to change the nature of their relationship. Kit didn’t reciprocate those feelings and wouldn’t allow himself to be guilted into a relationship.

3. Angel still insisted on trying to rope Kit into a relationship. He tells him, “I don’t want you seeing other people.” That made me want to scream. It’s like he just ignored everything that man just told him. Angel and Kit were not in a monogamous relationship. Angel had no right to tell him what he could or could not do.

4. Angel drugs Kit: Because Angel didn’t get what he wanted from Kit, he felt that it was okay to drug him. At the Solstice Party, we see him slipping a little white tablet into a wine pouch that Kit later drinks from. I would really like to know what that pill was. I think that it was something to lower Kit’s inhibitions and I wondered why Angel gave him that. Was he hoping to assault Kit later in the night? He could have easily killed Kit. He had no idea how that tablet would interact with the Cantuaba in the pouch. This may be a reach, but I think that drug made Kit more intoxicated than he would have been normally. I think that if he hadn’t been given it, he might have had enough strength to fight off the Druid. So Angel contributed to Kit’s death.

Angel and Joe

In his next relationship, Angel kept showing what a manipulative and creepy asshole he is. He got involved with his neighbor, Joe, who was married to a woman. Joe and Angel’s affair has been going on for 10 months at the beginning of the series.

1. He videotapes a sexual encounter with Joe without asking or informing Joe. - That’s such a huge violation. How do you breach your partner’s trust like that? Angel later claims that the video was for them, but if that was true then why didn’t he let Joe know about it? He took that video in secret because he knew that Joe would never have consented to making a sex tape. The tape is later stolen from Angel’s apartment and broadcast on the internet. Instead of apologizing for making the tape in the first place, Angel deflects any blame and insists that the real culprit was whoever broke into his apartment.

2. Angel doesn’t respect the fact that Joe is in the closet: Angel wants Joe to come out of the closet. He doesn’t seem to care about Joe’s feeling on the subject. For example, when Angel gets attacked by the homeless man and has to go to the hospital, he has the hospital call Joe’s job to notify him. When Joe confronts him about that he doesn’t seem to understand why it’s a big deal. It’s a big deal because Joe is not out at work. He doesn’t want to share that he is cheating on his wife with a man with his boss and coworkers. Angel cannot understand that because in Angel’s mind everything is about Angel.

Angel also tries to guilt Joe by saying, “Joe, you’re all that I have.” That’s so frigging creepy. It’s not Joe’s job to take care of Angel.

Now, I’m not saying that Joe is some wonderful guy who has fallen victim to Angel. Everyone in that love triangle is trash. They are all selfish and don’t seem to consider the feelings of the person that they claim to be in love with.

3. Finally, Angel wanted Joe to stay with him instead of getting Violet out of the building and to safety: The residents of the apartment building are being killed left and right. Violet has a target on her back because of her blog, but Angel still cannot understand why Joe has to go with Violet in order to ensure that she makes it to a safe place. First, Joe feels that he has to take care of Violet because he is still in love with her. They are married and he made vows to love and cherish her. Angel seems to choose to ignore that because it doesn’t serve his needs. What kills me about that scene is that he is putting his feelings above Violet’s life. I get that he hates her, but why can’t her understand that Joe doesn’t? Why can’t he appreciate that Violet’s life is in danger?

I honestly can see why Joe is involved with both Angel and Violet. They are both self-involved and obnoxious. I guess that’s Joe’s type. I cannot stomach Angel.
