Hello! I’m LilMoon, my name is Creasant Ray. I’m obsessed with plants and slowly expanding my collection. Not everyone who owns plants can have the most photogenic home, and I hope to represent that with my plants as I continue my journey into the plant life!

A sunrise and sunset view from two different days, taken on my porch. Unedited but cropped for privacy.
I find the sky so beautiful, with the sharp blue skies during some days and white to gray clouds on others. Then when the sun rises and sets, the sky swells up with colors that are vibrant yet peaceful. Every time you look up, there’s something new to look at. I love that about the sky.

I stopped doing the Inktober challenge
And that’s okay.
As a new artist, I pushed myself too far too quickly. And I realized it. Instead of beating myself up mentally or forcing myself to complete the challenge, I stopped it. And that’s okay, because an art challenge shouldn’t impact your mental health.
So to those who tried and failed, like me, it’s okay. There’s nothing wrong with realizing your limits. Whether it’s lack of time, ideas, creativity, or anything else. It’s okay. Learn why it happened, and move on from there. Self growth comes in many ways, and for me personally, it showed up through this challenge.

Follow up pictures of Polky from my Domino Effects in Gardening post. I felt it was a bit too long to add pictures to.
The pots look large for those tiny leaves, but the roots do fit in the pot. If I went smaller, I’d be making them rootbound in the pots. I wish I had pictures as proof, but I forgot to take them. Keep in mind that these tiny twins are from an adult plant I didn’t take care of, so the roots are much older and more established then the tiny new growth.

The Domino Effect in Gardening
2018-10-17
This last spring, I bought a Polka Dot Plant as a new plant owner. They were cute, on sale, and I wanted to challenge myself on a new plant. I got home and learned that their roots were sitting in water. They were soaked! So I named her Polky, let her dry out, and repotted her. The first novice issue I made was repotting her in a pot much, much larger then I needed to. The second novice mistake I made was thinking that I didn’t need a humidity tray. And the icing on the cake, the third novice mistake I made was overwatering Polky.
So Polky isn’t doing well, but as a novice I don’t notice immediately. Or if I did, I forgot every time. Who knows? I made the same repotting mistake on an Aloe Vera named Lolo I got in the winter as well. (My plant obsession started in winter, unfortunately.)
During the summer I also got a Golden Pothos named Garnet. If you’ve seen my posts, you all know Garnet’s story well.
So here starts the domino effect.
I only have so many glass jars for cuttings, all of which were taken by Garnet’s cuttings to fill out a second Golden Pothos pot named Pearl. But I needed those jars to take cuttings of Polky, who was dying, so I could repot what’s left into size appropriate pot(s). And I couldn’t repot Lolo yet because I needed Polky’s pot to do so.
So I’ve been waiting weeks for Garnet’s cuttings to be ready so I could take the cuttings and pot them in with Pearl. That would free up the jars so I can cut Polky back and see what lives. Which would free up Polky’s pot to repot Lolo.
Well, I didn’t wait long enough. So now I have one jar of Garnet cuttings (this one has what’s left of Harry Pothos in it), and one jar overfilled with Polky cuttings. But I’ve repotted Polky’s stubs, who have tiny new growth on them that was being squished by old leafless branches (that are now cuttings).
So now here I am on my kitchen floor in my pajamas, carefully repotting two sad plants on a Wednesday morning. All because I impulse bought a plant last spring.

Inktober day 14
I’ve been calling this character Lip, short for Long aisland Pumpkin, in my head. They definitely need a better name, though. One will come with time (and suggestions, maybe?). I’m pretty happy with their evolution so far. Soon I’ll have to figure out their body, so that’ll be a new thing to explore and learn.

Inktober update days 9-11
So, I know I technically failed with this one as my initial goal took more then one day, but I still consider this a gray area win on my part. I have a pumpkin a face. It took a while to make the face, as it’s the first face I’ve tried to make. All I need to do is refine this style and concept a bit more to make it work together better. Oof. I learned a lot, though, and had tons of fun.

Polka Dot Plant cutting update!
It died. I got so far, but I couldn’t keep it alive. This isn’t a good sign, as the parent plant is showing signs of root rot. I’ll deal with that soon, and tell you all about it when it happens.
I feel like I learned a lot that I can’t express while on this Polka Dot plant journey. Hopefully the next cuttings will survive. Any tips would be appreciated!
