skylar shook her head. it's true. it's partly why she chose to wear cargos instead of shorts today, the rebellious spark of an idea appearing when she'd looked at her underwear drawer. she'd fantasized about it before, sure, but now that she's with stephen, she could make those fantasies into reality. "what?" and now it's her turn to be surprised, the challenge making her laugh and blush all the same. he had a knack for turning it right around back to her. she looked between stephen and their surroundings. notes the difficulty with their friends around them, feels her stomach jump at the hint of excitement from his lowered voice. damn the effect he had on her. "i mean, i would, but . . . how?"

Mini-review:

This certainly lives up to its title: the tension slowly builds and builds until all hell breaks loose during the final act. I'm a huge fan of long/single takes, and this movie makes the most of that format. It's amazing how every single second matters in some way or another, regardless of how unimportant or casual it may seem. And of course, pulling off a 90-minute long take means both cast and crew are firing on all cylinders. I can't even begin to imagine how many hours of rehearsals and work went into making Boiling Point, but I hope they know it was absolutely worth it.

suddenly stephen was comparing her kisses to sunshine and skylar swore she felt like she was going to soar. it didn't even seem possible to her. he was admitting he thought about her and her lips and all she could do for the first couple of moments was giggle, to let the bashful way her smile transformed into surge forward. "i thought about you too, stephie." the old nickname slipped out mindlessly, driven by the overwhelming way everything seemed to happen right now. she didn't even realize it had happened. "all the time. i didn't understand why, but i . . . i think now i do." the feel of his hand on her waist didn't help, making her feel giddier by the second. everything they were saying felt like a confession, a revelation of feelings they felt but never let out.

sky nodded coyly when he echoed her request. she wanted stephen to lead her, to teach her what he liked so she could make him feel as good as she was feeling right now. it was hard to keep track of that line of thinking though because he was tracing along her cheekbone and that small gesture made her hum, content and soft. it just felt right, buzzing more warmth into her, reciprocating the way their eyes met. it should've been unnerving how silent they were being, but somehow it was anything but. it was comforting, loaded in a way she could only describe as electric.

then stephen kissed her again. everything in her moved with a violent whoosh, knocking her off her proverbial feet, over and over. how did every new kiss feel better? and somehow, she just wanted more. carefully, her legs moved. her thighs weren't pressed together to his anymore, instead they caged his hips, straddling him to find some more stability. it didn't even occur to sky where on him she was grounding on, all that mattered was that she could feel him pressed against her solid. the way she kissed him back was so indicative of that — a little clumsy, a little greedy, and so, so enthusiastic.

stephen's heart fluttered in his chest as skylar kissed his thumb, the simple yet unexpected gesture going straight to his lower half; a part of him he had hoped to behave. his forehead pressed against hers as he tried—tried—to be a gentleman, to think with his head and not… well, not his very obvious, very inconvenient attraction to her at this exact moment. he could feel himself reacting to her, and the knowledge made his ears burn.

she's actually here, he thought, wonder and disbelief coloring his inner dialogue. she's here and she wants this too. his thumb ghosted over her bottom lip again, memorizing its softness, still barely believing he was allowed to touch her like this. "i mean.." he breathed, a shaky laugh escaping him. "sky, it's—" he paused, gathering courage to clarify his earlier statement, "it's like comparing lumos to sunshine." his hand trembled slightly where it rested on her waist, and the mention of the lollipop incident only made it worse, heat rushing to his face. "i—" he started, then stopped, overwhelmed by the memory and their current position. he should’ve been teasing her back, should’ve had something witty and ridiculous to say, but his head was too foggy, too full of her, and his body was reacting faster than his mouth. "i couldn't stop thinking about you," he admitted quietly, the confession hanging in the air between them. "i've never been able to stop thinking about you. lips included." her thumbs skimming across his cheeks and he leaned into her touch instinctively.

"keep going?" he echoed, his voice catching on the words. please let this be real, he thought desperately. please don't let me wake up. "yeah, we can do that." his hand cupped her cheek, thumb tracing the curve of her cheekbone. everything felt delicate and precious. and for once in his life, stephen didn't feel the need to fill the silence with chatter or jokes. instead, he just watched her, heart thundering in his chest, as years of friendship teetered on the edge of something more. all was still until he couldn't contain himself and initiated another kiss, something he felt like doing hundreds of times more. his hand cupped the back of her neck as his lips moved against hers again, softer this time, savoring how their bodies melted into each other.
