Something I love about this episode is Marcille beat Laios at his own game; monsters.

Laios got so caught up in the autistic thrill of making a monster he lost sight of what was important: Being able to stand up to the griffin.

No matter how cool or how many spikes he put on it, it was never going to hold its own against the griffin; it was way too small and weak and no amount of points or a killer look in its eye was gonna change that. He'd just waste their last familiar and Senshi would be doomed.

Meanwhile Marcille realized she only needed something that could out-fly the griffin, so she created Skyfish in order to have aerial superiority. She knew what to prioritize and capitalized on them beautifully, even grounding the griffin with Skyfish's amazing speed.

Save your judgement Laios, Marcille did good today.

Ok I COMPLETELY forgot to update this. Here are a few of the moths I found with my simple setup and their IDs to the best of my ability! (P.S. I recently got a much better camera and am having a blast testing it out on these bad boys)

First night trying some moth-catching! I saw people using this technique on tiktok with some great results, I want to get more lights in the setup but even just this one UV floodlight attracted so many different kinds of moth! I’ll add a reblog when I get home with some photos I took of them :]

In my head, the anime version of Marcille’s skyfish has translucent red wings like a dragonfly

I was pretty surprised that the anime decided to make it red because I thought it was kind of like a certain other monster that is created later on…

This is in some ways like The Marcille Page to me. "What I need is the resolve and ego to bring forth a living creature made just for saving Sensi" is such a beautiful summation of both her strengths and flaws. And truly the act of creation does require resolve and ego specifically. I think it takes a special clarity to realize and embrace that, and I think it's important that Marcille has that clarity.

And like yeah I know this is kind of a gag and she makes a silly little guy but also it is a silly guy that does in fact save Senshi.

Marcille may be foolish and immature, but she genuinely has the inner strength and determination to reshape the world.

WAIT WAIT WAIT

i'm on to something

During the party's fight with the griffin, Marcille tries using familiars to chase down the monster and find/rescue Senshi. Through trial and error, she ends up creating an entirely new monster, custom made with the best characteristics from other monsters to achieve a certain goal.

Eventually she comes up with the skyfish, essentially a long tube covered in wings. It's super fragile, in fact it falls apart after a single attack, but it's agile, accurate, and lightning quick.

This isn't the last time we see someone in this story create their own monster! Laios's Ultimate Monster is the best example, a custom made monster created to be more powerful than anything else. And honestly, considering the thought that went into it, I'd be comfortable saying the skyfish is Marcille's "Ultimate Monster".

In fact, what if that's not the last time she used that design?

During Marcille's brief reign as Lord of the Dungeon, she creates a handful of custom monsters to serve her purposes. One in particular is larger, more powerful, and more spectacular than any of the rest.

I think the couatl is Marcille's finalized realization of her ultimate monster! It's very similar in design to the skyfish, but larger, stronger, and more detailed. It fits her aesthetic, and is easily the coolest/most powerful thing she creates.

She and Laios are more similar than she'd probably like to admit.
