The Sighting

I knew I shouldn’t have taken this trail. I had ignored not only the warnings from the park ranger and the signs at the trail’s start, but the sinking feeling in my gut as well. I just had to see for myself if the ghost stories around this place were true. I should’ve taken the hint, but now it was too late. It turns out those terrifying tales barely even scratched the surface…

I found myself in the dim cavern beneath the shadow of Pitch Peak, the air grew thick with the scent of decay and ancient spells, and the eerie glow of flickering, green flames danced upon the walls. Shivering uncontrollably, I watched in terror from the concealed alcove as a tall, monstrous figure hunched over a bubbling cauldron. The creature's face, obscured by a sinister skull mask, seemed like a cruel mockery of death itself, and twisted antlers crowned its gruesome visage.

Around the room, the hushed whispers of restless spirits and the low, mournful wails of the restless dead filled the air. Torches flickered on pikes driven into the stone, casting grotesque shadows that writhed and contorted on the cavern walls, mimicking the macabre dance of the green flames.

The figure, draped in a tattered cloak adorned with ghastly trinkets, reached out with massive, gnarled, furred hands, elongated claws gleaming ominously in the dim light. With a slow, deliberate motion, it plucked a withered, skeletal hand from a nearby shelf, bone rattling softly as it moved.

From a satchel at its side, the creature produced an assortment of other grotesque ingredients: venomous mushrooms, blackened spider legs, and a vial of shimmering, noxious ichor. It added each component to the cauldron with methodical precision, the dark liquid within frothing and hissing as the concoction grew more potent.

As the ritual continued, my heart pounded in my chest, and the icy grip of fear constricted my throat. The cursed onlookers that stood lifeless around the chamber seemed to sense my presence, but they did not move. Their vacant, hollow eyes remained locked on their eerie master, unblinking and unfeeling.

The figure's voice, a deep, haunting whisper that seemed to emerge from the very depths of the abyss, intoned incantations that sent shivers down my spine. The final step of the ritual, the dark potion simmered with malevolence, its toxic fumes filling the chamber with a ghastly haze. That’s when the figure at the cauldron turned and I could see its face.

In that moment of dread and revelation, the horrifying truth became clear. That was no mask it was wearing. Its face was nothing but pale bone, the sockets that would hold eyes harbored twin green flames that danced and focused as it scanned the cave for its next ingredient. This monstrous being, this master of dark and twisted sorcery, was none other than the feared and elusive skullbear, The Bone Thief. As I cowered in my hiding place, I knew I had ventured into a world where life and death danced upon a razor's edge, and where the line between the living and the undead was perilously thin.

he started collecting these since elementary school and now owns more than 100 of them. this is a common merchandise for tourist attractions in japan so people often assumes that he collects those kind of pennants 😭😭😭😭 apparently he only collects those with cool english words in it... i doubt he understands what any of it means 😂 he also owns a skullbear pennant and he don't understand why people can't find it cool... oh silly wataru-kun

I’m currently reading the sword of shannara and really enjoying it! I know it gets a bit of flack for being extremely similar to Lotr (another series very very close to my heart alongside the hobbit and silmarillion) but even so I find it to be a very fun and interesting novel! Here’s what I personally picture the antagonists to look like
