so i’ve seen a few folks kinda losing their mind over the rogal dorn tank having a big hole in the bottom (or they are being very funny and i am an imbecile, which we should certainly not rule out), but this isnt even the first 40k vehicle not to have a bottom. the mechanicus skorpius tank/transport has a hole in the bottom. did people react the same when that came out?

Srry I thought of that scene and I had to draw it it very much might be my fav out of any of the games...with the most a$$ bossfight right next to it the kraken has to be my least favourite and that's saying something when you think abt Skorpius.
Tumblr media
Skorpius on chaos mode had me stressing so bad when you die to the tiny ones when you can't see or the terrible hitbox and have to restart again bc of instant death... my lord

So if you've been following me for a while you'll know that I've been wanting to make a warhammer 40k army but with Halo Covenant models as a proxy. I was originally wanting to make them a proxy of the T'au but I found issues with figuring out Drone tokens, base sizes (specifically for elites), and invuln saves for things like shield Jackals. Well I'm happy to announce that I finally found a faction due to a new release in rules including rules that allow Imperium factions to bring deathwatch space marines. And here is my choice in faction shown by the Combat Patrol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I chose the Adeptus mechanicus as, while there are some issues (not restricted to but including struggling to pick if Skitarii Vanguard or Rangers should be the Jackals since they both have a 5+ invuln), they by far have the best array and arguably fitting themes around them. I have a full 1500 point list that involves a deathwatch squad of elites, skorpius disintigrators as wraiths, Kastelan Robots as hunters, etc. Also I apologize for the shit photoshop

Do some divines just MAKE new monsters for literally no reason other then they wanna? Like, Titania made faeries to be soldiers, Cerno made the first werewolf to defend himself (And made a plague), Erasmos made demons to boink, and Morganya made arachne to piss off Gaia, but could there be a divine who, at one time, made a species of monster and had NO intention for it beyond they thought it'd be cool if it existed and they made it exist because they're divines and Gaia lets them use her tools?
There have been plenty of monsters that existed simply because a divine said, "I think this would be cool" or "I want to make my own custom friends/spouse/pet/whatever".
Most monsters are one-of-a-kind and eventually die out, and not all of them get recorded by the World Athenaeum before they pass. These simply get lost to history. Only a very small number of them go on to build a self-sustaining population (like skorpius, harpies, etc.)
Monster forging is a complicated process, it violates World Law, and it's one of those things that everyone knows is a bad idea, but some divines can't resist the temptation to try anyway. Every monster has some unintended flaw and the potential to wreak massive havoc on the ecosystem or society. Monster forging is considered "playing God".
(Even Disgrace was wary about making the camedile because he knew that thing was going to turn out fucked up no matter what he did. I mean, it tried to attack its own creator right off the bat, so...incidents like that are pretty typical when forging monsters.)
So, divines making random monsters willy-nilly doesn't happen as often as you'd expect. But yes, it does happen.

A 40k army I would love to see someone else make, as I am not actually interested enough to do it myself I just think it would be neat-
Skaven Mechanicus.
Skaven Genestealers are the obvious choice for bringing Skaven into 40k (assuming they're Imperium-adjacent and not just xenos) given the similarities of literally and metaphorically undermining the oppressive feudal empire in service to their own ends rather than to make things better. But the rats are so fun and mad-sciencey in WFB and AoS, the thought of them scrambling about with mechadendrites and rad-guns is more appealing to me, personally. I mean, mechanicus people's remaining flesh is always gross and dying due to how much radiation they're exposed to, the typical skaven plague boils would fit right in.
Skitarii are easy enough (hell the name is already halfway to skitter through linguistic serendipity). Literally just come up with some kind of elongated snout hooded masked head, 3d print a billion of them, and glue them right to the existing bodies. They don't even necessarily need ears, though that would be hella cute.
Sicarii would be even better though, imo. Digitigrade mechanical legs and all that. You'd just have to find a way to get enough robes for the whole squad and not just the leaders, because robes are such a big part of the skaven look. Just throw in some stormvermin bits, swords and whatnot, to really sell the look.
Similar thing with techpriests tbh; they're already hunched over rat-style. Just get yourself some guitar string and make cable-tails coming out the back of their robes. Maybe add a bit of patchy fur to like, the exposed wrist of the tech-priest dominus. Give him claws if you're confident with the tiny sculpting.
How big is the doom wheel? Like serberys-sized or more sidonian sized? Too small to be a counts-as onager or skorpius, though, right? Just throw more mechanicum bits and symbols on the existing skaven model and run that. It' be hilarious.
Wait, I'm dumb, the doom flayers are the perfect size to be serberys dragoons and the other one, leave the doom wheel for sidonians or bigger.
Kataphron look like they should be easy to give the same treatment as the skitarii et al with just a little head-swap but I dunno, that seems uninspired to me. Maybe make them more like clan-rat powered mini-tanks? Couple of little hatches with horrid rat faces peeping out? Or maybe just keep the servitor as human, lol. "The only good use-function for man-things!"
Anyway yeah I don't have the time, energy, or give-a-shit to actually do any of this, but I'd love to see someone else who's more excited about Mechanicus and/or Skaven do it.

More @loominggaia Headcanons, because I'm Bored
Every species of people has their own group name, similar to a murder of crows and pod of whales:
A group of goblins is a gobble
Sirene groups are either a pod or a chorus, depends on who you ask. Most Athenaeum researchers will say the official term is pod, but people outside of scholars will say either one
A group of cecaelia is a tangle, although a cecaelia group without adult scyllo (So adult scylla, hatchlings, fries, bubblers, and kiddos of either gender) is called a nursery so long as no adult scyllo are with them (Even 1 adult scyllo makes the group a tangle)
A group of gnomes is a crawl
An elf group is a knife
Ogre groups are called bands
Troll groups are called stanks (And they live up to it)
Roshava groups are called twisters
Human groups are called troops
Dworf groups are called halls
Faun groups are herds or antlers
Satyr groups are herds or revels. Most people mean a group of adult satyrs without offspring when they say revels, most use herd
Minotaur groups are herds or batteries
Centaur groups are called herds or cavalries
Gorgon groups are rhumba or quiver
These terms are rarely used unless the person using them is trying to dehumanize the group, often in areas where they aren't accepted. Fae group terms are used a lot in Etios, Zareen and Evangeline, while commoner group terms are more frequent in Umory-Ond or Mogdir. Gaian group terms, excluding specifically herd or revel (For satyrs), are used in Evangeline primarily. Pod and chorus for sirene is still accepted as Not Speciesist, as is nursery for cecaelia moms with their squiddos.
Sirene also have a specifically-baby group term, two actually! They're the words shimmer and scoot. They're often used most commonly in areas where the singular term is more common, so shimmer is more common where people call sirene babies shimmerlings, while scoot is more common where they're called scooters. The correct term according to the Athenaeum is shimmerling and shimmer, but those who use scooter and scoot don't give a fuck.
Groups of young goblins are called tastings (As in wine tasting, as they're called goblits, this was Mostly A Joke)
Faery groups are called courts, even if none of the members of the group are aligned with either Great Kingdom called Court. This group term actually also includes mixed-fae groups. A group of fae, faeries, and even fauns is a court as well!
A mixed group of gaians, excluding gorgons specifically, is called a herd. Makes sense, as all of those species use herd as a group term
There's no one group term for a mixed-commoner group, it depends on locality.
A group of only kobolds is called a stupid
A group of pixies is a silly
A group of drau is called a seance
A group of adhene is called a stuck-up
A group of divines (Any species, just divines) is called an intervention (Yes, I did this because Divine Intervention is a term that exists and I wanna make that everyone's problem)
A group of skorpius is called a massacre
A group of agony cradles is an agony nursery
A group of floeback whales is called a titanic
A group of dragons is a Hellfire

Warhammer 40,000 Balance Changes for December 11, 2024: Imperium
Adeptus Mechanicus
Not even Richard Siegler seems to be able to help AdMech right now. Their stats aren't horrible, with more than a few factions sitting below them in most metrics. But they can't seem to win anything these days.
One interesting thing is that most players are using Hunter Cohort, and Hunter Cohort does have the highest win rate. But in most other metrics Rad-Zone is still beating it. Still, with player counts this low, data can skew easily. Those are the only two detachments people are playing. They're not playing a lot of Datasheet eithers, and seem dependent on Skorpius variants and Skystalkers.
Unfortunately, AdMech isn't getting any love in the Dataslate. So any help will have to come from the MFM.
And what help are they getting? Kastelan Robots are going down 5 pts a model. That's it.
That being said, some of their predators have been hit pretty hard, and they have a new detachment to play with. Even so, I can't see their fortunes changing much.
Astra Militarum
I won't lie. I knew Guard were going do well in the new meta, but I didn't think they'd do this well. They're arguably in a better position than GSC, when you consider how niche their rival is and how many less experienced players enjoy Guard. In my defense, I didn't know what Aquilons were going to do. Though in harsher criticism, I thought the changes to Tank Commanders would even out.
Yeah, Aquilons were definitely a thing and Tank Commanders are basically auto-include. But with their Codex coming out next month, what is GW going to do for now?
Apparently, nerf Leontus. Now, instead of being able to issue orders to any Astra Militarum unit, Leontus can only issue orders to Regiment units or Squadron units. Next, they've nerfed Aquilons as well. They too must come in outside of 6” now, and they can only do it if you set them up in your Movement phase.
Errata wise, they get an update that clarifies that Mindlock requires a Tech-Priest Enginseer. So that's all there is with the new Index.
However the MFM is a different story. There's a lot of red here. Some of their units are getting the split unit treatment now. Cadians and Catachans are now both 65 pts for their 10 man and 120 pts for their 20 man. Meanwhile 6 Ogryn have gone up 10 pts while 3 Ogry haven't changed. Scions and Aquillons have gone up 2 pts per model, so you'll be paying for them in Guard's shiny new detachment. Chimeras have gone up 15 pts while Gaunt's Ghosts and Hellhounds have gone up 10 pts. Finally Leontus gets hit with a double nerf, and has gone up a massive 25 pts.
All of these are relevant models, and Guard is almost certainly going to be hurting after this. Still, with Tank Commanders untouched I don't think this is a massive nerf to them. They're in a really good spot, and I think they'll still be good after this. But I don't think they'll be dominating tournaments like they currently are.
Black Templars
Templars was one of the factions that made me think that GW was trying to even out all the Space Marines and try again. They got hammered last update. Currently many Templar lists aren't actually taking many Templars. And when they do, they're usually going with the Gladius. Righteous Crusaders is currently struggling.
The Dataslate brings too small buffs to the faction. The fist is that Black Templars Repulsor Executioners finally can take 7 models. This just brings things in line with their other transports. The second, is that apparently Firstborn have put their centuries of experience into sharpening their combat knives, and Firstborn Crusaders are now AP-1. I don't think this balances out the nerf to Armour of Contempt though.
Black Templars has a new Index download for the Balance Dataslate, but I think it's just the fix to Repulsors and the new combat knives. They also have a new question answered in their FAQ. This is just a clarification to Fervent Acclamation that I'm pretty sure is how most people played it.
Other than this, you just have two points changes in the Dataslate. Repulsors have gone down 10 pts, and the Executioner has gone down 5 pts. This probably won't have too much of an impact on list building. But Templars aren't in a bad spot, and other powerful armies have gotten significant nerfs. So they're going to stay in a good spot. But it's still a shame so many of their Datasheets aren't that competitive now.
Blood Angels
I'll admit it. I completely blew it on my read of the new SanGuard datasheet. They slap.
On the whole, new Blood Angels are struggling a bit, but I think a lot of that may be new players that have come into the faction. Players are overwhelmingly sticking to Liberator for their detachment of choice for now, and we don't have a lot of data on the other detachments. Though one mad lad did really well with an Ironstorm.
I would say the Blood Angels don't get anything out of the Balance Dataslate, but that's no true. They get nerfs. The first is to Armour of Contempt, like all Space Marines. The second is to Descent of Angels, which is the Angelic Host 3” deployment stratagem. Still, they're in one of the better positions to take these hits.
The changes in the MFM are a bit odd. On the one hand, Mephiston has gone up 10 pts while the auto-include enhancement Rage-fuelled Warrior has gone up a whopping 15. You're probably still taking Mephiston, but Rage-fueld Warrior definitely isn't auto-include anymore. So what's strange? SanGuard has gone down 5 pts per three models. They've already been proven to be worth their cost, and Blood Angels didn't really need a lot of help.
The Sons of Sanguinius will be fine.
Dark Angels
Dark Angels was another faction I knew was going to have issues, though I didn't think it from looking at their datasheets. It wasn't until I saw Codex Marine nerfs that I knew they were in trouble. Dark Angels is very close to a classic Space Marine list, just with some cool flourishes. So if Codex Marines are hurting, it can hurt them too. Deathwing Knights are still good though, as is Azrael. But no one is having success with any of their detachments. Gladius, Stormlance, and Vanguard seem to be the best way to play the faction.
As Space Marines, The Unforgiven also have to bear the nerf to Armour of Contempt. Inner Circle also has Relic Teleportarium which gets nerfed too. But GW does realize that Dark Angels detachments just aren't working. We start with Company of Hunters, which now gives Mounted units Advance and Fallback and Shoot and Charge. That should help their mobility greatly. However Master of Manoeuvre has been replaced with a re-roll Advance and Charge rolls.
There are weapon buffs too. Apparently GW is tired of hearing The Lion isn't worth taking. He now has Dmg 2 on his sweep. Meanwhile, Ravenwing Black Knights get DevWounds for their combat weapons. Finally Sammael gets boost to his mobility if you put him in the Company of Hunters Detachment, or otherwise his unit gets Advance and Shoot and Charge.
Finally, before we get to the MFM, there's a new FAQ in the Unforgiven's tiny Codex errata. This one is a bit of a head scratcher. I'm guessing someone tried to claim that you have to use All Secrets Revealed on the first Stratagem that gets used. Well GW has confirmed that you do in fact get to decide when and if you use it.
The Lion doesn't get his buff without going up in cost it seems. He's gone up a whopping 30 pts. Not sure that's an equivalent cost. All and all, I don't think things are going to change much for Dark Angels. Maybe some of their specialists will give Company of Hunters another go, or maybe their new Lion's Blade detachment, but I think we've mostly got six more months of Dark Angels themed Codex marines.
Deathwatch
They're a faction again! Applause!
The new index is very similar to the old one, but has been buffed in significant ways. Additionally, the new Talonstrike looks mean! Expensive, but mean! We probably won't see much for them here. But their entry returns to the Balance Dataslate and MFM.
If I have to guess, I think a few players will come back and have success with their new Index. But they're definitely not a top faction.
Grey Knights
Despite having interesting rules, Grey Knights have struggled for most of the edition. Unfortunately they seem to be one of the factions were GW just didn't have the time to make sure their datasheets functioned properly before release. With only a small number of weak datasheets, even the incredible mobility they've been give wasn't enough to let them be successful. While they've received aid from GW to try to fix these issues, when your options are so limited any set backs can cause trouble. Currently, Grey Knights are one of the worst factions in the game, with many of their stats being below Imperial Agents.
Unfortunately, Grey Knight aren't getting any further love in the Dataslate today. In fact Truesilver Armour and Prognisticated Arrival are both strats that have gotten nerfed. So we're not off to a good start. And while there's a new Grey Knights Index for download, I can't find anything that's changed.
Things only get worse in the MFM. Not only are they not getting any much needed buffs, but Nemesis Dreadknights are taking a 5 pts nerf. Things are not looking very good for the Knights of Titan.
Imperial Agents
There have been some mad lads that have had fun and success with the Imperialis Fleet detachment. Between datasheet and detachment rules, this faction has some fun and crazy things it can do. But there's still not enough players to really place it. And if they're going to be a real army, they desperately need a real army rule.
The Dataslate isn't helping them. Deathwatch have Armour of Contempt and Grey Knights have Truesilver Armour, so there's a nerf there. And the Culexis Assassin has two nerfs to Etheric Emergence, limiting it to your Movement phase and bringing it in line with the 6” Deepstrike change.
Finally, they're getting a single buff in the MFM. Well that's not true. Other Imperium armies are getting a buff in that the Vindicare Assassin is no longer ridiculously costed and has dropped 25 pts. So that's good news for every other Imperium Army.
Imperial Knights
As opposed to their Traitor cousins, Imperial Knights appear to have some solid stats but are still struggling to reach top tables. Players also struggle to get their big knights on the battlefield, though they do so more reliably than the fallen Houses. When they do, Canis Rex is still the go to, even after the nerfs.
Knights would dearly love to get Bondsman abilities back, but that's not happening today. And, like many armies so far, their Index has been updated but doesn't appear to have changed. So they're going to have to get their help from the MFM.
And they're getting some help here. Helverins and Warglaives have both gone down 10 pts. These are both relevant datasheets, so gaining a little buff there is a nice thing. That's going to free up 40 to 60 pts in many lists, either to upgrade the Knights being taken or to take advantage of allies.
Still I don't think this is enough to change their fortunes.
Space Wolves
While it's cool to be right about something, sometimes I hate it. See my worries about GSC. In this case, it's the fact that Thunderwolves are still good. The nerfs definitely hurt, as the Sons of Russ have a hard time getting near the podium. But the players that can get there often still take home the gold.
For the Dataslate, in exchange for a nerfed Armour of Contempt, Wolf Scouts also get sharper combat knives. This seems to be all that's changed in the Index too. Otherwise any changes will have to be in the MFM.
In the MFM, both Wolf Scouts and Wulfen go up 1 pts/model. These are both relevant, but it shouldn't hurt all that much. And since the Rout make heavy use of their own units, they don't get hurt as much by nerfs to the core Codex. Also, like many solid factions, they only benefit from top factions getting weaker. So I think the Wolves are fine.

Yishun Revengers Episode 16 "Unleash the magic, free the magic,"
"ᗯᕼY ᗯOᑎ'T ᗪᗩᗪ ᒪOᐯᗴ ᗰᗴ??"
-because you're using this font
Breaking news, breaking news, ok not really breaking news, I just said that to catch your attention, but anyway you decided to stay on, so, let's get into it, shall we?
I'm your host, Stefen Hua, and today I'll be bringing you through the horrors and great terrors of Yishun-and about how it's probably just a misunderstood neighbourhood.
Firstly, a fairly recent reason for why Yishun might just deserve its reputation after all-some weird middle-aged man, well, not man, really, more of like alien creature with horns and insect wings-wait, is that Ming? Is that what he's been doing after he got the Culpable blood-the hell, you gotta be kidding me. Although it still doesn't explain why he was acting so eccentrically like some mad scientist-eh, maybe that's just how he always is.
Anyway. This alleged 35-year old ma-ALIEN has been going around touching little kids and asking them if they want to be injected with something to become an immortal god and Yishun's protector, possibly to help keep up Yishun's bad reputation. Because trust me. I would know.
Despite claims that he poses a threat to the little kids, in fact, most of the little kids have not been stupid enough to listen to him, and safely removed themselves from the crisis. Although, some of the…less intellectually gifted that were tricked were in the end only injected with a harmless placebo vaccine. Regardless, authorities have ascertained that locking him up would be far worse than-ok, no authorities have done that, it's me, I'm the authority, and I can say this one thing-do not lock that man up. It will do more harm than good.
Alright, next on the list, we have a rather heartbreaking reason for why Yishun deserves its reputation. Although most of the atrocities have suddenly disappeared and all reverted back to that of a normal neighbourhood on the 21st of April this year, which is quite recent, there have been reports of residents living in the vicinity hearing a soft sobbing sound every night after midnight at the void deck, which some people believe is a ghost crying for something. Or someone. Aw. That's so sad. And also none of my concern anymore.
Reports have also mentioned another adolescent male playing cards with the ghost, possibly to cheer him up. Lol, I bet he's probably the only person willing to play that…Nacalevia or something with him, pfft, pathetic.
And one good, convincing reason why Yishun is just a misunderstood neighbourhood-and could be perhaps one of the safest-is that every time that there's something bad happening, be it a fire broke out, or a guy collapses and needs CPR, there are almost always 6 distinct shadows in the distant appearing out of nowhere to call the ambulance or jump into the burning building to rescue any trapped civilians inside. Of course, this too happens in other neighbourhoods, but not as frequently.
There have also been reports of a certain bird-ok, fine EAGLE, I'd probably be bashed if I called him a bird…anyway, an eagle and a woman, possibly its handler, near the happenings of bad things too, and also appearing as distant shadows-though whether or not they are allied with the six other shadows remains to be seen. Hah, I'll tell yah, there's no way Luna could be allied together with them, maybe a temporary alliance, sure, but with her arrogant temper definitely not. Or maybe she's changed for the sake of the greater good? Meh, not my problem anymore.
She has also been alleged on the hunt for a certain man wearing a black cap and black shirt and black pants, and sunglasses with a face mask-hah, I knew it, Skorpius wouldn't ever do something like whatever this guy did to her. Anyway, she says that the described man “owes her a favour” after traumatising her in her kidnapping experience. Nah, don't listen to her, she probably doesn't even care.
Alright, and that about wraps up all the big happenings that's been occuring in Yishun lately. Frankly, no more calls of pontianaks or chess ghost masters anymore, which leads multiple to believe that something has cured…or “purified” Yishun. Yishun has now become just like any other ordinary neighbourhood, with the occasional guy going crazy, but to be fair, that happens in other neighbourhoods too. We can no longer fairly award Yishun its “crazy neighbourhood” medal if there's nothing crazy happening in Yishun when compared to the other neighbourhoods, no?
You should probably all be tired after hearing me rant on. I sure am. Go and take a break, drink some water, look out the window, take a walk, touch some grass, ok? This definitely isn't being addressed to a certain mourning ghost of Yishun, but…live the life he would have wanted you to.
Once again, I’m your host, Stefen Hua, signing off!”

And again, yet another new novel idea
Basically I'll name this one Yishun Revengers, and it'll be a book written in a light-hearted, playful, and goofy tone, just not as goofy as My Hero PSLE, but definitely not as serious as Cancelled.
So anyway, as the name suggests, this story takes place in Yishun, and therefore Singapore, and therefore this would be the perfect oppurtunity to bring back certain familiar faces that I've never been able to give a proper story to (Boss Rabbit, the Six Pillars, August, etc)
Of course I'll add new characters, which I already have an idea for-Skorpius, the hybrid expy of Skorpius from Book Bugs and my babygirl Void.
Skorpius will be a scorpion deity, with scorpion horns and venom-claws and all. Like the original Skorpius, he was wrongfully sealed away for a thousand years until recently when Tartarus was infiltrated and all the convicts held there escaped. Now his babygirl Void part is that he, like him, has no emotions, was born with no emotions, researches and experiments on dangerous creatures all the time, and, most importantly-wears gentlemanly black trenchcoats and a void, emotionless mask to hide his face.
He is emotionless due to a curse running in his bloodline, and to pay homage to the original story-the curse of the sky demon, the IBYon blood flowing in his veins. Of course, this time, I won't just make it a single alien race, I'll make it something much cooler-
Ok but before we get into that, I was just rewatching the animated short of Jing Yuan's fight between his master Jing Liu (because clearly Hoyoverse has a favourite), and I saw how she was mara-stricken and turned into an insane monster, so I was thinking, "Hey, what if I expyed that too?" So I did.
Of course by now you're probably thinking "Yeah yeah yeah, the alien IBYon race is gonna be like Jing Liu or something" BUT NO! I was thinking of something much much cooler-
The IBYon race are a race of powerful aliens, who are like vampires, spreading their genes everywhere to make more of them. They can cause numerous terrible disorders and diseases as well, such as in the case of Jing Liu, turning them mad and evil, or in the case of Void, stripping them of emotions, and definitely many more. (planning to incorporate a character who was IBYon-stricken too
Ok, but then I was also thinking-"hmm, a powerful alien race who spread their genes through blood and curses like vampires that either make the victims one of them or curse them so terribly like Jing Liu and Skorpius...hmmm...WAIT...DOESN'T THAT SOUND LIKE DARK SLEEP?"
So I thought-what if we evolved an alien species that is basically powerfully concentrated Dark Sleep that gained sentience, and the horrific curses they inlay on their victims such as Jing Liu and Skorpius are the result of them coming into contact with (sentient) Dark Sleep!
And of course, for the sake of also paying homage to the original story of Book Bugs, the first place they meet Skorpius will be at Sengkang Public Library, since that's the first place Petra meets Skorpius again after he's been unsealed after being sealed for a thousand years (albeit it's just his illusion).

I mean. Like 90% of the people playing warhammer just want to play the units they think are fun. I play Ad Mech.
Is Ad Mech a powerful faction?
No
Are the units I like to paint good?
No, Skitarii Rangers, Skorpius, Archaeopter, and Electro Priests are pretty bad ATM.
Am I going to acquire and paint newer, better minis?
Fuck no.
You have your answer lol. When the stars align and a semi decent codex exists for an army/units I like, then I slam at Warhammer.
If the balancing is shit like it is at the moment, then the last thing on my mind is buying new minis.
Like. It is weird that you seem to assume everyone has the money to keep up with the ever changing nightmare that is 40k minis. An army list is good for maybe 2-3 years, and if you are keeping up with buying in meta you are spending waaaay too much money.
I 3d print, and I struggle putting everything together and getting it painted between edition changes. Having a job, and post grad stuff to work on means I don't have much time. Pretty sure it's the same for like 99% of people who play.
The game Is meant to be fun. Constantly buying assembling and painting minis simply so you can build a meta list to win with isn't fun. So what is the point?
Sometimes I wonder how people can be playing Warhammer since supposedly decades while being still so absurdly bad at it. Not to throw shade at my recent old man opponent or anything, but... look, I'm gonna be honest: I am not even playing your faction. I have heard of your army rules in detail today for the first day. I have absorbed the information purely by coincidence. Then why can I put a better list on the table by simply flicking through the datasheets for five minutes and be like "Hey, this goes very nicely with that"?
This is not even a "10th Edition thing", but a "basic common sense thing" - because, to let's be real, this is not a monumentally complex game at that step. Previous edition list building held up the illusion of compexity, but there's only so many kinds of generic buffs and effects you can put on your game-pieces, which also have a limited amount of functions and often just a single special mechanic to operate under. In the end we roll dice and manipulate dice rolls, and there's only so many ways you can make a six-sided dice special or interesting. The special part is what happens on the table, complexity arising from the interaction of you and your opponent - that is, if you have something barely functional you can throw into this interaction, and achieving that is not a hard thing to do.
It's not rocket science. It's a game rated for children ages 12 and above. How can a man in his late 40s be so utterly illiterate at it?

Note
I thought of a funny not so serious AU. Divine monster high. All the monsters are their divine creators' kids and treated as such, and go to school together no matter how little sense that makes. Isaac is also there as the token relatively normal person.
I don't know much about Monster High, but I still think this is an intriguing idea! The thought of Isaac being the one "normal" guy in a school of monsters is pretty damn funny! I can imagine demon cheerleaders, skorpius bullies, spriggan stoners...
Any Monster High fans available to chime in?
