Kruidenreis Griekenland April 2024
Op mijn rug lig ik onder de laagste bank van de couchette in de nachttrein naar Bologna. Het licht van een klein zaklampje in mijn rechterhand wringt zich in allerlei bochten om een glimp van een verloren zonnebril op te vangen. We noemen geen namen, weet zeker, dat ze de bril gisteravond op het plankje voor het raam heeft gelegd. Mijn yogalessen komen goed van pas als ik me nog wat verder de hoek in wring. Alles echter zonder resultaat. Hardhandig worden rugzakken nu aan de kant gezet en schoenen opzij geschoven. Als ik nog een keer de rits van een toilettas open trek, kijkt een zonnebril me met een duistere blik aan. De eigenaresse in verbijstering achterlatend.
De stations dweilmachine van Ancona trekt op dinsdagochtend haar baantjes. In haar kielzog een nat spoor van frisheid. Zorgvuldig worden rondjes rondom marmeren pilaren gedraaid. Met een lange veger neemt een tweede schoonmaker ondertussen de vloer onder de bankjes, waar de machine niet bij kan, onderhanden.
Let’s rock’’, staat er op de linkerarm van de bestuurder van de dweilwagen. Hij maakt zich op voor de 500 meter sprint.
‘Delay’, vat in één woord de vertraging van de veerboot samen. Ik vraag maar niet door. De man achter het loket wrijft over zijn pijnlijke nek en maakt een onnodige chaos van het papierwerk wat hij uit moet voeren. Ancona blijkt bij een nadere verkenning verrassend mooi.
Als de eerste ronde bergtoppen van Meteora in het zicht komen draai ik acuut een kleine zanderige parkeerplaats op. De andere chauffeurs draaien met me mee.
Achter bloeiende brem en koolzaad kijken we uit op dit fascinerende berglandschap.
Aangekomen bij ons hotelletje proppen we ons met z’n negenen rondom een minitafeltje op een minibalkonnetje, eten meegebrachte oude wijven koek en zien de kloosters steeds dichter bij komen.
De nachtegaal laat zich horen als we tegen zonsondergang het zandpad omhoog wandelen. Gekleurde kleding hangt nog steeds aan de lijn in de grot boven de kapel. De nachtegaal laat zich horen en lokt ons verder omhoog met haar gezang. Alles geurt en bloeit. Ontelbare kruiden versieren de berm. In het mooist denkbare licht geeft Meteora haar contouren langzaam weg aan de nacht.
Code rood is afgegeven in Milina op onze aankomstdag. Op onze mobiele telefoon verschijnt een waarschuwing van de Griekse Overheid dat we ons tot 16.00 uur de volgende dag niet onnodig op straat moeten vertonen of andere ‘bewegingen’ moeten maken.
Het collectieve trauma van alle bewoners in het dorp na de overstromingsramp in september vorig jaar is zo voelbaar na deze waarschuwing. Overal sjouwen mensen met zandzakken en worden er pallets voor de deuren gespijkerd. Zelfs de meest stoere ‘aardse’ mannen in het dorp klagen over hartkloppingen en een naar gevoel in hun maag. Niet nog een keer toch??? Alle auto’s worden naar veiligere hoger gelegen plekken gereden. Advies ook aan ons, om alle auto’s naar Lafkos, het boven Milina gelegen bergdorp te brengen. Dit om te voorkomen dat Europe Car huurauto’s straks haar auto’s uit de zee moet vissen.
We parkeren donze Skoda’s achter de kerk in Lafkos en wandelen via de Kalderimi naar beneden. Net voordat de eerste dikke regendruppels vallen komt het hotel van Magda in het zicht.
Het wordt stil in het dorp, en ook wij zijn stil. Gespannen op wat komen gaat. Onweersknallen schieten door de lucht en de eerste regenbui valt. Gevolgd door een rustperiode. Iedereen valt in een onrustige slaap om wat de nacht nog brengen zal. Luiken klappen en een hardnekkige vlieg treitert ons. Via de schoorsteen spatten de eerste druppels van een fikse regenbui onze kamer in. Een dikke handdoek vangt het meeste op.
De volgende ochtend lijkt de schade mee te vallen en haalt iedereen opgelucht adem. De markt in Argalasti is geannuleerd en om toch een beetje het marktgevoel te krijgen vragen we Staties de olijfhouten plankjes man of hij met z’n karretje voor ons hotel wil gaan staan. Staties rookt een sigaretje en drinkt zijn zwarte koffie, terwijl wij ons over alle mooie patronen in zijn plankjes buigen.
De kalderimi is gelukkig niet weggespoeld. Als het weer nog meer opklaart durven we de weg naar boven aan. Verzamelen laurierbladeren, groene vijgen, en de pittigste oregano die ik in jaren heb geproefd. De cisteroos houdt niet van strijken en ontvouwd haar gekreukte roze blaadjes in de middagzon. Op één van de graven op het kerkhof van Lafkos ligt een vijg in de zon. Grieks stilleven. In de kleine marmeren soms ijzeren kistjes zitten de schoongemaakte botten uit graven die zijn opgegraven om ruimte te maken voor de volgende.
Huilend spuit de Phanos van restaurant ‘El Plo’, de straat schoon. ‘Wat ben ik nog, ik ben geen kok meer, mijn bedrijf is kapot. Het enige wat wat ik nog doe ik stof en modder wegspuiten’. Hij blijft me knuffelen, draait zich dan weg om woest verder te gaan met spuiten. Om het restaurant heen is de ravage van de overstroming pijnlijk zichtbaar. Alsof een bulldozer rücksichtslos alles wat haar voor de voeten kwam heeft weggemaaid.
Toch kookt hij die avond voor ons de sterren van de hemel. Hopelijk voelt hij heel eventjes weer dat datgene wat in zijn ziel zit ook na de ergste overstroming bij hem is gebleven. Ook al lijkt het alsof het water alles heeft weggevaagd.
‘Het is een Indiaans gezegde’, zegt wereldreiziger Stepke, de schipper van één van de zeilboten waarmee we een tochtje naar One Tree Island maken. ‘Als je te snel reist, kan je ziel je niet bijhouden. Ben je zelf al opeen andere plek en staat je ziel staat nog op Schiphol in de rij en heeft geen tijd gehad de afstand zo snel te overbruggen’. Zeilen is volgens hem precies de goede snelheid voor onze ziel om ons bij te kunnen houden. Hij steekt zijn hand omhoog en grapt dat hij na 40 jaar timmerman te zijn geweest nog steeds in één keer 5 bier kan bestellen.
Onze Kelly kettle ligt in in de kajuit en de picknicklunch is klaar. Even later staat ‘Kelly’ op one tree island ingeklemd tussen de rotsen en zorgt ze voor een kopje thee voor iedereen. Courgette taart ligt klaar op de rotsen en wordt geserveerd op kerst servetjes.
Na een lange pauze peddelt Andre ons in het bijbootje terug naar de boot.
In gedachten klimt iedereen elegant vanaf het kleine wiebelende bootje weer aan boord. De werkelijkheid ziet er echter soms anders uit.
Op de terugweg trekt Stepke de fok omhoog en geeft mij de helmstok in handen. Iedereen neemt zijn ziel op schoot en we zeilen in een rustig tempo terug naar Milina.
Dina staat al klaar bij de bron van Metochi. Ze is een Griekse kruidenvrouw en woont in een huis ongeveer een uur lopen boven het dorp. Op de zandpaden naar boven wisselen we onze kennis uit en leren van elkaar. Saskia graaft een Iriswortel uit en we ruiken aan het blad van de Griekse wilde koriander waarvan ik nu even de naam vergeten ben
De tafels op haar veranda zijn versiert met lavendel en varens. Uit rode emaillen mokken drinken we thee en bedenken bijna spontaan een ‘blackbox’ kookworkshop.
Voordat iedereen het doorheeft wordt in de éne hoek van de keuken een Griekse reuzenbonen soep gebrouwen, frituurt Dina acacia bloemen in een boekweit tempura,worden tamme kastanjes in chocolade gedoopt en verworden de zilte zeevenkel met kappertjes tot een tapenade.
Knalgeel wordt de kamille zalf die we in de tuin van Magda maken. De geur van de schil van bergamot omringt ons, ze wordt met appelazijn en honing gemengd voor een heerlijke oxymel.
De koude siroop van de acacia bloemen en citroen is bijna klaar en in het koffiepotje pruttelt ons huis tuin en keuken hydrolaat van oranjebloesem. Wat een rijkdom.
Stoot Jaqueline aan als we langs de zee lopen op weg naar één van mijn lievelingsplekjes vlak bij Milina. ‘Vandaag zou een dag voor dolfijnen kunnen zijn’, zeg ik. De zee is stil en vlak. ‘Bedoel je die streep daar in de verte?’, is haar reactie. Ze heeft het nog niet gezegd of de eerste dolfijn duikt op. Iemand anders laat een schreeuw, nog twee dolfijnen of zijn het er vijf? duiken op en spelen met elkaar.
Als we onszelf even later via de rotsen in de zee laten zakken beelden we ons in dat we met dolfijnen zwemmen. Ze zijn immers nog vlak bij ons in de buurt. Achter de rotsen ligt een klein grotje. Stil zwem ik naar binnen. De glinstering op het water maakt zilveren strepen in de donkerte van de grot.
Nachtegalen begeleiden ons op weg naar de grot van Cheiron. Het verhaal gaat dat hij in deze grot les gaf over genezing en kruiden. Een beter leslokaal kun je je niet voorstellen. De grot zelf maant tot stilte en laat je luisteren. Net als jaren geleden gaan we eerst voor de grot zitten die zich nog steeds verstopt achter de, elk jaar groter wordende, granaatappelboom. Nog steeds kan ik me goed voorstellen dat deze plek in tijden van oorlog een vluchtplek was voor mensen uit het Milina.
Iedere dag is voor ons een oefening in meebewegen. ‘El capitano'van de veerboot naar het eiland Tikiri is ook taxi chauffeur. Als hij op de ochtend dat wij over willen steken nog iemand voor controle naar in ziekenhuis in Volos moet brengen dan gaat dit door en is er ineens geen veerboot.
Koby voert katten in Agios Kyriaki, we drinken Griekse koffie en slenteren door de smalle straatjes.
Met een emmer haalt een oudere Griekse vrouw water uit de zee. Misschien om vis schoon te maken of voor wat anders.
Twee uur in de middag gaan we toch nog naar de overkant. De gashandel wordt diep naar beneden gedrukt en de overtocht duurt ongeveer net zolang als het filmpje wat Mineke er van maakt. 11 seconden. We hebben het maar niet over onze ziel.
De oude vrouw loopt zuchtend voor ons uit en opent met een grote sleutel de zware kloosterdeur.
Ze draagt een zwarte zonnebril en bijpassende zwarte sokken.
In het zonnetje voor de deur ligt een witte poes in haar eigen zwarte schaduw en likt haar pootjes schoon.
In het klooster kun je voor een tientje twee nieuwe knieën kopen. In de vorm van zilveren gestanste plaatjes. Dit is een stuk goedkoper dan twee knieoperaties.
De nonnen zouden hun prijzen best iets omhoog mogen gooien.
Buiten in een hoek naast wat oude cellen staat een groot Tuborg vuilnisvat.
Vanaf een hoge balk kijkt een zwarte kat op ons neer. Er mist een stukje van haar staart.
De vrouw zucht dat de katten haar het kaas van het brood eten en dat het niet meevalt om met z’n tweeën dit hele klooster te onderhouden.
Zet haar zwarte zonnebril nog weer wat rechter op haar neus. Haalt haar schouders op, zucht nog eens. Pakt een plastic stoel en zet deze buiten voor de poort in het zonnetje. Ze zit er nog steeds als we een uurtje later weer langs het klooster wandelen.
Sommige dingen zijn éénmalig. Je zal maar 33 jaar getrouwd zijn op deze dag in Milina. De borrelplank met unieke creaties van ingelegde vijgen, zwarte walnoten en artisjokharten versiert de tafel. Kamperfoeliebloemen geven net dat beetje extra aan de cocktail van koude acacia siroop met witte wijn. Hun bed is versiert met bloemen.
De hoge wandelweg naar Chorto kijkt bijna voortdurend uit over zee. De olijfgaarden staan vol klaprozen en gele toortsen. Al lopend verzamel ik bloeiende ciste-rozen om te drogen voor een theemengsel.
In de verte steekt een stinkdier over. Waarna we onze neus in een bloeiende jasmijn steken om de geur te neutraliseren. Grapje natuurlijk maar het contrast is leuk.
De kamille langs de weg komt hier duidelijk iets opruimen en bloeit overvloedig.
We zwemmen langs de rotsen en zoeken een schaduwplekje op de trap om onze 'Spanakopita' weg te werken. Beter kan een picknick niet zijn.
Voor het eerst in mijn leven zie ik de kappertjesplant bloeien. Eigenlijk kun je de bloei alleen in de ochtend zien. Een paar uur warmte is voor het kappertje al voldoende om weer te verwelken.
In het zijvakje van mijn rugzak wacht nu een handje vol kappertjes op het moment dat ze in azijn worden ingelegd.
Ondertussen moeten we nog meer meebewegen en gaat alles anders. Aneklines gooit de complete overtocht naar Venetië eruit en laat ons zelf naar een oplossing zoeken. We blijven nog een dag langer in Milina en het lukt om hotels te annuleren en een nieuw plan te bedenken.
Twee uur in de nacht in Igoumenitsa, we zijn allemaal zo gaar als een klontje, draait de veerboot haar kont naar kade 7 toe en zakken de oprij platen langzaam omlaag.
De hutten blijken vol en de gereserveerde stoelen een nachtmerrie. Om ons heen scholieren die handstand oefenen en het gezellig hebben met elkaar. Het licht blijft aan, en op de houten platen van de bagagerekken proberen ook nog mensen te slapen. Om half drie komt er voor een deel van de groep de verlossende mededeling dat er nog toch nog 1 hut beschikbaar gekomen is.
Wat zijn ze blij.
Het is bijna 03.00 uur we ons hoofd op het het ronde bankje op de 8e verdieping naast de discotheek die dicht is, leggen. Gelukkig hoeven we morgen niet vroeg op.
Het is heerlijk aan dek. Lekker zonnetje en wat wind. Eindelijk tijd om een paar bladzijden uit mijn meegenomen boek te lezen. Het Eiland van Anna. Het gaat over Schokland en wat overstromingen doen met mensen op het eiland. Ik zie het lijntje met Milina.
We treinen, bussen, treinen en bussen, spelen Uno en om 20.00 uur stappen we het station van Groningen op.

Nello stesso Conservatorio ha studiato direzione d'orchestra con i Maestri Umberto Cattini (avviamento al teatro lirico) e Gabriele Bellini (repertorio sinfonico). ha partecipato ai seguenti corsi di perfezionamento per il pianoforte: 1980,Parigi con Carlo Levi Minzi 1983, Vienna con Paul Badura Skoda 1983, Padova con Sergio Marzorati e Rodolfo Caporali 1984, Vienna con Oleg Maisemberg 1984/85/86 , Pescara con Bruno Mezzena 1985, Vienna, con Leonid Brumberg 1985/86/87, Conegliano Veneto , con Bruno Mezzena 1994/95 , Alagna , con Vincenzo Balzani. Ha inoltre seguito un corso sull' interpretazione e improvvisazione pianistica con Alexander Lonquich. Nel 1985 è stato selezionato quale componente della rappresentativa italiana al Concorso "F.Chopin" di Varsavia. Il suo repertorio pianistico comprende centinaia di titoli di composizioni di Chopin ( integrale delle Polacche, Scherzi, Ballate, Sonate), Liszt, Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt, Schumann, Bach e molti altri. Di Beethoven ha eseguito l'integrale dei 5 concerti. Nell'87 e 88 ha esordito nella direzione con l'Orchestra del Liceo Musicale Bellini di Tradate, Nell'89 ha portato al debutto l'Orchestra Sinfonica Varesina divenuta nel 94 Orchestra Filarmonica Europea, della quale è direttore stabile. Con tale orchestra ha eseguito il 5° concerto di Beethoven con diversi direttori ospiti, il 1° concerto di Chopin sotto la direzione di Adalberto Tonini, il 2° concerto di Chopin, nonché tutti i concerti di Beethoven ed il 1° ed il 2° concerto di Liszt ed ha sviluppato un vastissimo repertorio comprende anche il Requiem di Cherubini, di Mozart e di Verdi, e che consta di centinaia di titoli appartenenti al genere lirico (opere di Rossini, Puccini, Verdi, Wagner ecc) , sinfonico ( integrale delle sinfonie di Beethoven e delle sinfonie di Mozart, Bach, Vivaldi, Pergolesi, Stamitz, Handel ecc ecc) e sacro ( integrale dell'Oratorio di Natale di Bach, antologia dalla Passione secondo Matteo e dalla Messa in Si minore, Gloria, Magnificat e Beatus vir di Vivaldi, diverse Missae di Mozart, Haydn e Schubert) . Nel 94 ha eseguito il 5° concerto di Beethoven con l'Orchestra Filarmonica di Craiova diretta da Ovidio Balan. Nel 97 e 98 ha partecipato al Festival Pianistico Internazionale del Gargano sia come solista che con orchestra, eseguendo il 5° concerto di Beethoven con l'Orchestra Filarmonica Dauna diretta da Domenico Losavio. Nel 97 ha compiuto una tournée in Ungheria (ripresa dalle tv locali) con la Corale G.Verdi di Samarate e l'Orchestra Filarmonica Europea esibendosi sia come come solista che come direttore. Nell'ambito della direzione di coro ha diretto dall'89 al '99 la Corale "G.Verdi" di Samarate , 95 al 99 la Schola Cantorum di Casorate Sempione con le quali ha effettuato numerosissimi concerti in unione con l'Orchestra Filarmonica Europea con programmi sia di musica sacra che lirico sinfonica, dal 2013 al 2016 la Corale San Michele di Busto Arsizio e dal 2017 al 2019 la Corale S.Cecilia della Basilica di Somma Lombardo . Ha svolto anche attività didattica come docente di pianoforte i Licei Musicali Manzoni di Varese e Candiani di Busto Arsizio e presso le Scuole di Musica di Casorate Sempione e Samarate. Dal 91 al 95 ha fatto parte della giuria del Concorso Internazionale di Ispra. Nel 98 è stato ammesso al corso di Direzione d'orchestra del M.o Donato Renzetti con i Pomeriggi musicali di Milano. Nel 2001 ha diretto il Requiem di Verdi con il Coro dell'Università di Regensburg (Germania) in una tournée italiana con l'Orchestra Filarmonica Europea. Nel 2006 ha diretto il Mozartchor di Salisburgo con l'Orchestra Fil. Europea in occasione del 250° anniversario della nascita di Mozart con il Requiem ed una selezione di brani dal Flauto Magico. Con la sua orchestra ha collaborato con solisti quali David Johnson ( membro dell'American Horn quartet), I Solisti della Scala (Formisano, Di Rosa, Meloni, Screpis e Stagni) , Franco Pomarico ( 1° Oboe Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI) e Corrado Saglietti ( 1° corno della Rai Torino). Nel 2010 ha diretto un concerto alla Tonhalle di Zurigo con la sua orchestra e i solisti della Scala e al Musikverein di Vienna nella Grosser Saal dove si è presentato alla guida dell'orchestra “I Virtuosi del Teatro alla Scala” riscuotendo un grandissimo successo e standing ovation finale. Nel 2011 ha diretto la Piccola Orchestra romana a Ceccano (FR). Nel 2012 ha diretto la sua orchestra in un concerto al quale hanno preso parte come solisti Walter Auer (1° flauto dei Wiener Philharmoniker), Andrea Ottensamer (1° clarinetto dei Berliner Philharmoniker), Davide Formisano e Fabrizio Meloni. On Friday, we decided to take advantage of having the rental car until 3:00 p.m., which is when we believed the rental car location in the city center closed. We decided we were going to drive about 35 minutes east of Helsinki to a town of 50,000 people: Porvoo. Our drive was relatively uneventful, though I meant to mention before that our Skoda is a standard transmission and even though that is all Eric drove until a few years ago, it did take him a little bit of time to get used to it again. I can tell you, now that we returned the car, he did not stall once 👍
Once we arrived to Porvoo, we noticed that there appeared to be a small ski area at the edge of the town, which was a seaside town with very cute old-style homes. From reading a little bit about Porvoo, it does have a significant Swedish-speaking population. Some towns in Finland still do, and some don't hit all. Tove Jansson (the author of the Moomin books), for example, was a Swedish-speaking Finn. Anyway, as our first stop we checked out the ski area--Kokonniemi. As I mentioned, it was quite small and had one main run down the face of the hill. To the left of that hill was a staircase up, and there were people doing all kinds of fitness-related things, like running up and down the stairs multiple times. Of course my kids and Eric wanted to do just that. I did walk up the 350 steps once and that was plenty for me 😆
We noticed to the left of the stairs that there was mountain biking, a ropes course, and a zipline. Once we went back down to the base, we inquired about the zipline. The people were super nice, and we apologized for our exceedingly enthusiastic and loud American children, and I said, "do you see many American children here?" And they said that they see some. I said, "Are any of them as loud as these children?" And they said that they've seen louder. That made me somewhat relieved.
To do the full, large zipline course, you would need about 3 hours and that was about 2 hours more than we had. So we did the children's ropes course and zipline and the kids got all helmeted, harnessed, and geared up for that and spent over an hour, part of it in rain that was absolutely pouring; they climbed on the ropes course and Cece got one bad rope burn in the process. They both loved the zipline, sometimes goinf side-by-side (there were two lines), together, holding hands. They had so much fun. Eric noticed that there were tons of mosquitoes, so that wasn't ideal, and the kids have both been itching away the after-effects of that since, though it isn't too bad. Those mosquitoes just can't compete with Michigan mosquitoes 😆
The kids were contented to finish up after their hour and then we drove and parked in the city center of the small town and walked to the historic 18th century church, through the cobblestone streets. We went to a K Supermarket, and this one was massive and potentially could compete with Tokmanni, because the whole second floor was all home goods and paper goods and it seemed amazing, if I'd had more time to shop! But, we got some lunch-time snacks and then we realized we really had to rush in order to get back by the three o'clock Budget rental car deadline! Actually, when we got into the car we realized that we weren't going to make that deadline. So I looked up the phone number, and in doing so, I realized that they actually closed at 5:00. Whew.
We drove back to Helsinki in a little bit of rain. We returned the car and then walked back to our apartment and stopped at a playground that the kids loved from last year; it features this crazy teeter-totter-ing, bouncing, spinning structure. I wanted to go on a few stops myself, one of them to the Postie, their post office, because I discovered I could ship a box for about 40 euros that contained all of the fabric and kids clothes that we purchased. That way we could still return home with just carry-on luggage in case we could do a standby for an earlier flight to Albuquerque on Sunday. That is what we're hoping to do! So, I went to the Posti and got a box and all the information about setting up the shipment online. Once we got back to the Airbnb, I did indeed set up the shipment online and it was pretty straightforward.
Then, I'd wanted it all of us to go to a restaurant I'd read about, basically on our block, called The Seahorse. It's apparently something of a Helsinki institution (since 1934!), famous with --as the website says --the man on the street as well as local politicians and celebrities. Diverse international celebrities have also paid it a visit over the last almost 90 years, including Jean-Paul Sartre, and I've always been a big fan of that guy's, so after learning that, we just had to go.
No, Eric isn't a huge fan of "fancy" restaurants, and this one was not necessarily super "fancy," but going there did push him a bit out of his comfort zone. I did book a reservation online, but when we showed up they didn't have it, but we got the last table they had, in the front dining room, rather than in the back, more-busy one. If we'd known what any Finnish politicians looked like, that would have been the place to spot them. Entering into that dining room, there was a "no photographs" sign (just like Honest John's in Detroit used to have!). Anywhere there are "no photographs" signs, you know some real camera-shy people might be in attendance ;)
Dinner was a fun treat for sure. I got something called a "Vegetarian Wallenberg," which is basically a vegetable patty, and it was sitting on top of a mound of mashed potatoes, edged with lingonberries. It was very delicious! Eric got perch, Rowan got meatballs, and Cece got Salmon. Rowan's meal came with a desert, which was frozen cranberries in toffee sauce, and we all shared that--and it was amazing.
After dinner, everyone was tired. Eric conked out right away and once I got the kids to bed, I thought they also conked out, but Cece came into the kitchen about 45 minutes after I'd put her to bed, and then, the next morning, Rowan told me he was up at 4:30 a.m. and did not sleep well all night! Now, it does appear that he is the one with some kind of ailment, when a few days ago, it seemed that Cece had something!
Once or two more vacay posts to go! I will report on our last day in Helsinki, Saturday, and perhaps our flights home on Sunday! The day after we arrive home, we will be getting our Bedlington Terrier puppy, Alex Sándor Engberg. How we arrived at this name is a huge, long story, but if I told it to you and you saw how thrilled the kids were with it after many names that Eric and I loved but they didn't, you'd love Alex Sándor, too.
