Miles (Daniel Radcliffe) es un programador mediocre en una empresa mediocre con una vida mediocre, que vive pegado al móvil sin ver especialmente nada, y pasando sus días echando de menos a su exnovia Nova (Natasha Liu Bordizzo). Un día jugando online se pasa de listo en los comentarios del foro de un videojuego y le amenaza un grupo de mafiosos llamado Skizm.

Estos son los dueños de un juego en la vida donde te amenazan, extorsionan y te matan llamado como ellos Skizm. Y Nix (Samara Weaving) es la mejor jugadora de ese juego. Donde se dedica a matar a los jugadores que Skizm le ordena, hasta cumplir una cuota.

La mafia va a casa de Miles y lo dejan inconsciente para atornillarle a las manos dos pistolas, y le ordenan matar a Nix, lo que le complica bastante la vida.

Aquí empieza la persecución de Nix contra Miles, y mientras ella le dispara, él huye sin dispararle una sola vez. Miles se da cuenta de que su teléfono está intervenido y que lo localizan, y ahora tiene que huir en pijama y con dos pistolas atornilladas a las manos todo el rato. Lo que le provoca que todos huyan de él, incluida su exnovia Nova.

Riktor es el jefe de los mafiosos y parece tener algo en contra de Nix, por eso elige a contrincantes aleatorios a ver si alguno la mata. Y unos polis que detienen a Miles nos confirman que Riktor mató a la familia de Nix quemándola en un coche y solo se salvó la niña, pero sufrió de una locura extrema que la hizo disociarse y convertirse en una asesina, cosa que aprovecho Riktor, para que no busque venganza contra él.

Miles le cuenta a Nix que sabe quién mató a su familia y se alian para matar a Riktor que ha secuestrado a Nova para amenazar a Miles con que asesine a Nix. Ambos entran en la base y buscan acabar con Riktor y todos sus secuaces, mientras todo es retransmitido en directo y cobran de las visualizaciones de la masacre que van dejando a su al rededor.

Con una estética noventera, pero moderna, van matando a todo el mundo hasta llegar, pero Miles y Nix se ven atrapados por todos los hombres de la mafia armados hasta los dientes, y Nix se sacrifica mientras le pide a Miles que la ayude a terminar su venganza, y Miles se lo promete.

Miles mata a Rikton aunque este le dice que Skizm se ha convertido en una multinacional que se expande y Miles, que no se queda con la chica, se dedica a darles caza a todos los líderes de Skizm que disfrutan y se enriquecen con el juego.

The tracker on Nix’s phone bleeps like a microwave finishing its cycle. Scarlet and baby blue blink from his pocket. Joker slams Miles Lee Harris by the skull against the nearest brick wall and turns his own hands on him: two huge black pistols etched with Skizm slogans…the organization that should be no more in Gotham. Baring teeth, Werewolf discards his cigarette and readies both trigger fingers so one small tug will send two bullets up through the jaw.

“You’ve got…” he snarls, nostrils flared and eyes aflame, “three fucking seconds to tell me why she’s tracking you!” Gotham notices, yet doesn’t intervene. The same sea of sullen faces mills by and around them, leaving Joker to continue hissing and spitting with both hands jutting Miles’…gun bolted hands…into his chin. He shakes him, snaps his own cigarette-stained teeth, then barks again, “NOW!”
