YawngClan is a Clan built from scratch, using the myths and legends of wild cats passed to help guide their way, by a small group of surviving loners (free-roamers) and pets (kittypets) after surviving a monster crash. Far away from home and having no knowledge of their current location, these cats are determined to survive where their companions who had died in the crash could not. With Amber as their leader, Koi at his side, and eight other cats backing them, the story of YawningClan begins.

Some notes about the founders:

Amber goes by Amber/Amberstar for the first several moons as a courtesy to the stories they're using to help guide the building of their Clan; however, after Amber gains official leader status, he earns the name Amberfather and 8 lives, hence the information on his card

Mumblemeadow swaps between being a warrior and medicine cat for the first few moons, hence the combination title on his card

Skippaw becomes a warrior only a moon after the Clan's founding, so I felt like it was worth putting her warrior name on her card

Snowkit doesn't realize they're trans until early into their apprenticeship but it makes me uncomfortable referring to them by their dead pronouns, so I'll be referring to them using they/them or he/him from the jump; similarly, Fogpaw doesn't realize they're trans until a little bit into their apprenticeship, but I will be referring to her as she/her from the jump

While being referred to YawningClan from the jump to keep from future confusion, the group does not settle on a name or Clan status until several moons after their founding; similarly, the Clan’s leader Amberstar/Amberfather does not gain true leadership status or their lives until several moons into leading, nor do the cats settle into proper Clan naming rituals and roles for a while. It’s also worth noting that while this is a Clangen blog, I’m mostly using Clangen for cat generation and relationship-building purposes, while the overall plot of YawningClan’s founding will veer quite a ways away from Clangen and canon Clan norms as moons progress. A new starpath (religion), new roles, new naming rituals, etc. This blog is to tell the founding story of modern-day YawningClan, a Clan that I’m developing using Clan canons as starting points and guidelines but not much else, lol. YawningClan is also inspired by and inspiration for a Warriors-themed D&D homebrew that I’m working on building (while learning D&D in the process lol), so there may be some references to that on occasion and even art of the Yawning cats drawn as humans, anthros, tabaxis, etc. I’m just here to have fun and vibe tbh, but I hope y’all have a good time vibing with me!

Moon 237-Leaf-Bare

Safariaster’s (144) kit has been apprenticed to Xhosa (105).  Hopefully Xhosa’s quiet cunning will help even out Nettlepaw’s (6) more flamboyant tendencies.  There are now almost the same number of apprentices as warriors.  The leadership has taken an interest in Downgaze (18).  Both Primcrest (79) and Creekstar(91) want to spend more time with him (he is Creekstar’s son and Primcrest’s nephew, but I’m sure that has nothing to do with it).  Primcrest is proud of how far Frostpaw (12) has come and is excited to see what she achieves once she’s a warrior.  Vaxxstreak (123)  notices that Echomoor (18) has been helping around the camp a lot lately.  He really wants to do something to prove himself.  Meanwhile, Shinepaw (12) is still being rude to her fellow apprentices.  Amberwhisker (96) tries bringing her behavior up to her, but it ends in a fight that Hopedawn (26) has to break up.  Hopedawn talks with Shinepaw and tries to help her work through her feelings about losing Eaglepaw in a healthy way.  Skippaw (12) is distracted by wondering what her visions mean.  She even calls Hopedawn the wrong name.  Creekstar is curious about these visions and wants to get to know Skippaw better.  Meanwhile, in the Dark Forest, Yuccawillow is watching Creekstar with a sly smile.

Moon 236-Leaf-Fall

Palepaw (15) has been made a full Healer (no thanks to Safariaster’s-143- ‘training’).  He’s given the warrior name of Paleburst in honor of his friendliness.  Streampaw (7) can’t help but feel constrained by Spotfoot’s training (17).  He feels like he can’t learn everything he needs to about his powers from a powerless cat. Hopedawn (25) is frustrated by coming down with greencough right after recovering from having her litter.  She just wants to go back to work.  Primcrest (78) bumps heads with her reassuringly.  Primcrest is also impressed with the skill-level of the Clan’s apprentices.  Shinepaw (11) is proving her mastery over water by keeping all the rain out of camp.  Wow.  Vaxxstreak (122) confides in Echomoor (17), comforting his son.  Maybe one day Echomoor will be able to tell his dad the truth about what happened to Auburnpaw.  Echomoor also enjoys spending time with the dark-cursed apprentices. He tells Frostpaw (11) about the latest gossip he heard over the border and offers Skippaw (11) advice about fitting in with the Clan.  Creekstar (90) wonders if she should start bringing some of the young dark-cursed cats to gatherings. Dark-cursed cats aren’t normally taken to gatherings until they’re proven, but it could be a show of strength to the other Clans.  Shinepaw has been working extra hard in preparing for her assessment.  She worries that she’ll fail it.  Brightpaw (11) comforts her.  While on a patrol, Skippaw tells Rubbleheart (32) that she’s been having nightmares of darkness.  Rubbleheart tells her that those sound like. . .visions.  Maybe of the dark forest.  Skippaw’s scared, but Rubbleheart comforts her and tells her to go talk to the Healers.

Moon 235-Leaf-Fall

Shinepaw (10) hopes that Eaglepaw finds his way back to the Clan.  She’s not sure what life will look like without her brother by her side.  However, the apprentices’ den is still full because Xhosa’s (103) kits have been made apprentices!  Streampaw (6) is apprenticed to Spotfoot (16).  He hopes he’ll do something to impress the Clan on his first day.  Maybe he could catch a big fat rabbit?  Or chase off a fox!  That’ll show the Clan he’s the best apprentice anyone’s ever seen!  His brother, Almondpaw (6), is a little more reserved.  He’s apprenticed to Vaxxstreak (121).  With so many apprentices and so few powered warriors, a lot of powerless cats are ending up with powered apprentices.  It’s challenging to train them to control something they themselves don’t understand.  Primcrest (77), unlike her son, does enjoy having kits around camp. She’s reminded of just how cute they are because of Nettlekit (4).  Xhosa, on the other paw, is a bit fed up with all the young cats. She thinks that Skippaw (10) is a rumor-monger and that Palepaw (14) is too stuck up. The kits have decided that they are obsessed with Amberwhisker (94).  Lilackit (2) loves climbing all over him and Rootkit (2) charms him with his big green eyes. Almondpaw is trying to get to know his mentor and tell him a story, but Vaxxstreak is noticeably distracted.  Maybe because he’s old.  Apparently, not every cat loves Bluepaw (10).  Shinepaw is telling jokes about her.  Brightpaw (10) understands that her friend is just stressed after the loss of her brother, but she wishes she would be a bit nicer to her siblings.  The fearsome foursome are still quite close, and Frostpaw (10) feels most like herself when she’s around Bluepaw.

Moon 233-Greenleaf

Xhosa (101) has been having a rough time lately.  First she was poisoned, then she had kits, and now she has heat stroke.  Palepaw’s (12) doing her best, but she worries that it won’t be enough.  Meanwhile, Creekstar (87) is giving Dawnfreckle (17)  more patrols so that he has more opportunities to prove himself.  It would be nice to have another proven dark-cursed cat.  And it keeps him out of camp and away from the kits and apprentices. Also, the fearsome fivesome (now foursome) miss their sister.  Skippaw (8), Bluepaw (8), and Frostpaw (8) feel like they’re missing the light to their darkness.  Brightpaw (8) misses her friend and sister who’s always looked out for her.  With their sister missing, the foursome are having some tensions. Skippaw feels like Brightpaw must be cheating in their training sessions-there’s no way she could win that many fights!  Brightpaw points out that maybe she’s just really powerful.  It’s true, after all.  Skippaw storms off and decides that she wants to spend time alone.  She passes the time by watching Dawnfreckle go on all his patrols and wonders what he was like as an apprentice.  If she can prove herself before she’s a warrior, will she be able to go on fewer patrols?  While Brightpaw is doing well with mastering her powers, Shinepaw (8) worries that she’s not doing enough.  She feels like she should be bringing back more prey from her hunting patrols. In a bit of good news, Hopedawn (22) had her kits.  Rindlekit (0) is a daring little girl who has an earth-blessing.  Palepaw’s glad it seems like he’ll have some help in the Healer’s den soon.  Next is the charming little boy, Rootkit (0), who got his mother’s water-blessing and is almost identical to her.  The last kit is the nervous little Lilackit (0), who’s powerless.  Safariaster (140) has taken to bossing Eaglepaw (8) around.  He’s not thrilled about that but thinks that Safariaster must be practicing for when she’s an elder.  Spotfoot (14) and Echomoor (14) get in a fight.  Echomoor worries that his brother suspects something.  He feels bad for killing Autumpaw, but he doesn’t want to leave the Clan!

Moon 231-Greenleaf

Safariaster (138) has had her kit!  He’s a little boy named Nettlekit (0), who has a medium-strength fire-blessing.  Interesting.  She won’t say who the other parent is, though.  The nursery feels weirdly empty, as Smokefoot’s (20)  kits along with the fearsome fivesome (which is now their official name) have been made apprentices.  It’s hard to find mentors for seven powerful young cats when most of the adults in the Clan are powerless, but Creekstar (85) manages.  Shinepaw (6), who’s floods have left the whole Clan feeling damp, has been apprenticed to Tumbleswoop (20).  The Clan wants her magic supporting them in battle, but Shinepaw can’t help but wonder if she would have been happier as a mediator.  As there are no fire-blessed adults in the Clan (and Primcrest-73-and Creekstar have their paws full with dark-cursed cats), Eaglepaw (6) has been apprenticed to Downgaze (12).  Creekstar knows her son is a good teacher, despite his youth, and she hopes that he’ll be able to manage the shameless Eaglepaw.  Skippaw (6), despite being dark-cursed, has been apprenticed to Rubbleheart (27).  Primcrest trusts her son to be able to manage a dark-cursed cat, with her and Creekstar’s guidance, of course.  Brightpaw’s (6) fire magic (combined with Shinepaw’s water magic) has left ElementClan feeling both moist and hot.  Lovely.  She’s been apprenticed to Smokefoot.  Again, not a great match, but it’s the best Creekstar can do and Smokefoot has done well at parenting several powerful cats.  Meanwhile, Creekstar has decided to take on mentoring Bluepaw (6) herself.  The young cat is growing up to be quite cunning, and Creekstar wants to keep an eye on her.  Archpaw (6) has been apprenticed to Kestrelcreek (6).  Her quiet demeanor should be a good match for Archpaw’s loud one.  And, finally, Primcrest is mentoring Frostpaw (6).  The fearsome fivesome are quite close, as they’ve only had each other growing up.  Archpaw could recognize Bluepaw just by the sound of her pawsteps.  Smokefoot is glad that her kits are out of the nursery.  It’s been a little overwhelming parenting them and she needs some alone time.  Meanwhile, Creekstar (still not knowing the true cause of Auburnpaw’s death) has made Echopaw (12) a warrior with the name of Echomoor, honoring his dedication.  He wonders if he truly deserves his name.  He’s taken to hanging out around Archpaw (under supervision, of course) in hopes that her connection to StarClan will rub off on him.  It looks like the Clan will continue to grow, as Hopedawn (20) has announced that she is expecting kits.
