Full size only. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Empties that is. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And that’s just the kind of week it’s been. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I ran out of my prescription retinol and I’ve had it for over a year so that’s how long it lasts even when you use it regularly. I’d say it’s worth it. This is a micro-encapsulated Tretinoin which means that it gets released on your skin in a slower dose rather than a lot hitting it all at once. It’s better if you’re trying to avoid irritation but it’s still very very strong and even after a year of it, my skin can’t tolerate it nightly. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I use a more gentle retinol too, and just finished the @trinnylondon Overnight Sensation. This is a retinal so it’s a little stronger than other options but still not as strong as prescription. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I also finished my favourite Maybelline foundation, and this is discontinued. I’ll say that drugstore foundation colours have come a long way and it’s nice that I can find a warm golden colour for my skin pretty easily. I’m switching to Fenty for now, but I do have this in a darker colour which is what I use in the summer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Alterna Scalp serum! I actually used this. I just massage it into my scalp once a day and it didn’t make my hair greasy either. I think the applicators made it super easy to apply and so I reached for it more than the Ordinary one, but I will go back to using The Ordinary one now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Lastly, the Neem and Tulsi face wash is from the Indian store and the Body Oil is from @chermerebeauty and imported from Trinidad and Tobago. A set of nice sunny days that make winter weather bearable. Refillable skincare, yes or no? I'm team no. It puts the onus of being sustainable on the consumer rather than the brand and makes the packaging more clunky than it needs to be. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I bring it up because I finished my @trinnyskincare Intense Peptide Moisturizer, and yeah, I have a refill of it so I'm good for right now. This is my favourite moisturizer for my face. It's really thick and moisturizing, and has a set of peptides that help skin be more bouncy. If you have anything that can be refilled, don't forget to save the dispenser so that you can screw it on to the new bottle. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Other than that, I'm done with this YSL mascara which I loved and I would definitely repurchase. It's intense and black and makes your lashes look like falsies. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Kerastase Genesis shampoo. This was ok. KEYS Soulcare Body and Hand Wash mini which was also ok. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Zara Shimmering Body Oil from the holidays. This is the second one I've finished, and it was a limited edition product from December. If they come out with these again, I will rebuy them. Organized some perfume samples today to make sense of what I have but I might never be done, so let's take a break and look at the pretty light and go through some empties. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Firstly, the Sothys eye pencil that I loved and isn't easy to find. This was a twist up, so no sharpening required and yes, that's my favourite type of pencil. I think it came as part of a duo, and is on the Sothy's website. They have a Canadian website. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Moving on - @NeutrogenaCanada serum sunscreen. I loved this because it's so light but it's also so shimmery. I liked it but some of you may not. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ LIttle mini Kerastase hair conditioner - loved it, thanks for the sample @jeromesalon. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Larger @alternahaircarecan Caviar Anti-Frizz Conditioner. I liked it, but the bond-repair conditioner is more smoothing especially if you have curly hair and would like something smoothing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Finally, a mini Luna oil from Sunday Riley. This was a freebie in, what else, a Sephora order. A study in pink and red, also I found the a hip little coffee shop where everyone gives you the cold shoulder, and a real book store! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ These are some things that I actually really love right now. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I said I would update on the Topicals Faded serum, so let's start there. It's as good as everyone says it is. I've only been using it for 2 weeks but I can see how over time, it's going to fade acne scarring or any mild hyperpigmentation that might be there. It's not a cure for melasma (is there even a cure?) but if you're aiming for management, then I would say try it. I like that the blend of ingredients is optimized for pigmentation issues. It smells terrible - but I think the smell only makes it more legit. I used to use an Obagi hyperpigmentation cream that smelled bad too, so I'm here for it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fenty Skin Butta Drop in the LE Rose-Gold edition. Smells like vanilla, and yes, actually does melt in your hands into a beautiful oil and is a fantastic moisturizer. There's a tiny bit of shimmer. It's not over the top, so if you're wearing black, your clothes won't be all dirty, but it will make your skin look so glowy. I want this for the summer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Tower 28 mascara. Such a highly rated mascara and always sold out, so when I saw it at Sephora, I grabbed it. Great for separating lashes, not too smudge, but still a bit smudgy. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Trinny London Peptide moisturizer. Obsessed with this one - it's so beautifully hydrating and perfect for dry skin. If you have any kind of peeling because of retinoids or even the weather, try this, I think you'll love it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Neutrogena Stubborn Blackheads serum - it's a BHA (which I know you all know because of Paula's Choice) but in a serum. It's a gorgeous sunny day here, one of those weird days in January where you wake up to birds chirping and wonder if you slept all the way to summer. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Finished this Boscia Cica Repair body cream - I've been taking it to the pool and it was great because it was light enough to use on my face too. I would use this again, it smells light and fresh, like a spa and it was so easy to use. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Cerave Hydrating Cream-to-Foam Cleanser. I liked this as much as the regular Cerave, which is a non-foaming cream. This made for an excellent hand wash because it wasn't as drying as what I would normally use. I'd totally get this again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Mini Monsieur Big mascara from Lancome. This was a freebie with my Sephora order. Yes, I'd use it again. But you know me... always on to the next thing when it comes to mascara. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Biotherm Body Butter. I adore this - 20% Shea Butter?! Yes! The best stuff for the winter and basically melted into an oil when I wanted to use it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Fenty Skin Niacinamide Serum. This is a 5% niacinamide, which is an ingredient that is great for pigmentation, and at 5% this is such a gentle product that it was easy to layer with pretty much anything. Honestly, though, it seems that everything has niacinamide in it these days and at 5% this wasn't making a major difference to my skin, so I don't know if I'd want to use it again. I do love that all the Fenty skincare has something active in it and is easy to use with makeup. Because I’m a crazy party animal, Fridays I like to bundle up, go to the pool for a swim, soak in a tub with Epsom salts and then put oil on my skin. And then I 😴 early and I’m ok with that. I get the best sleep ever and I highly recommend this routine. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I’ve been using Beauty of Eczema Epsom salts and and then using this new Chere Mere oil out of the Caribbean and omg it’s 🫠🫠🫠. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The oil is a blend and doesn’t soak into your skin but it coats it to keep hydration in. The scent is decidedly tropical and not overpowering. I’ve been using it consistently for a couple of weeks and I’ve noticed that even eczema that was starting has subsided. It really has been the best thing for my skin and I adore it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Also, I’ve gotten so many compliments on my American Eagle swimsuit and it was $20. I thought I'd talk about some new skincare because it's been a minute. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Starting with a glob of Faded by @topicals. I like it so far, and the reviews are mixed. Some people say that it worked on scarring, but not really on stronger pigmentation. The texture is fine. It looks like a thick cream but it's a melty kind of serum which absorbs and is a bit moisturizing. I don't use it at night, but I'm trying it in the morning so I will report back. The thing is that it smells awful. I used to use an Obagi HQ cream, and it smelled terrible and that's what this serum smells like too. Gross. Hopefully, that means that it works. Look how they included so many active ingredients in the serum, I really like that because right now I am rotating between niacinamide, vitamin C, etc. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ On to something that smells amazing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @naturemary_ Revive & Repair oil, which I mentioned in my stories last week. I love how it smells like a big rose bouquet, super fresh, but also kind of strong and I can smell it for a while. Look at the rich colour of the oil. It's made with terpenes from cloves and rosehip oil which is vibrantly coloured. I've only used it for about a week, and I can't always use it with other products in my routine, but it's in the rotation. I like it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Finally, some @veriphyskincare from Canada. I had used this brand years ago, but I found it very strongly scented. I'm not finding that right now, and notably, the cleanser has no scent at all. The face mist is a toner, the Power trip serum has lactic acid in it, and the cleanser is a gentle cream. First empties of the year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Let's start with some minis. The Fenty Hydravisor and the Pre-Show Glow were from a set. I love the sunscreen because of how glowy and moisturizing it is, and I was split on the pre-show glow for a while, but I decided I love it. It does make your skin more smooth - it's a very strong acid. You just put it on and wash it off after a minute, so it's easy to incorporate into a routine too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I finished an Amika Flash Instant Shine Mask. I loved this, but it's no Wonder Water, ad for the price, I'll stick to Wonder Water. I haven't finished a Wonder Water for a while but it's still in the lineup of things I use and I'm going to try some other options to see if they work as well but smell better. But still, nothing is beating the price of Wonder Water. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Bond Repair conditioner. I have the shampoo too, and I love them together. Of course, the conditioner gets finished first because sometimes I wash my hair with only conditioner (I'd say every other time), and this one makes my hair so smooth. I have learned that my hair loves anything with Bond Repair or the like in the title because it really does calm down frizz. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Zara Soleil Decade glitter oil. I can't believe I finished this because it is SO STRONGLY scented, and I wish I could say that I found the scent sophisticated and addictive, but it's pretty sweet and not really my type of scent. But I mixed it with another oil and enjoyed the glitter this winter. I used this before blow drying or straightening and I won’t ever be without it again. Honestly, it’s so good that I’ve already bought a full-size bottle. It makes your hair so smooth and frizz free and it STAYS that way which is the best part. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @amika purple conditioner - I had this at the pool twice a week and I feel like my hair still looks pretty orange but I’m getting it done in a week so watch out. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @boscia exfoliant. Foamy and lovely. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ @fentyskin Fat Water. Kind of a cool essence that you pat into your skin for extra hydration.
