Skie: All right, let's get back to talking about my outfit.
Faldorn: Nobody was talking about that.
Skie: Which is why I'm trying to get that ball rolling. So, how does it look? It's good, right?

Jaheira told Tallis about how the bg1 and 2 parties got so used to Fianna waking them up with her nightmares that they were like 'fuck yeah, keep resisting Bhaal babe!'
And now I'm imagining that whoever was on watch was also on Fianna duty, and if she woke up from a nightmare, it was their job to take care of her.
--
Imoen distracts her with stories and reminding her of their childhood misadventures around Candlekeep. And when her own nightmares come knocking, Fianna is ready to do the same.
Khalid and Jaheira 10/10 go into parenting mode. Khalid is there with a solid shoulder and a soothing presence, while Jaheira is happy to keep watch while Fianna sleeps.
Minsc and Boo are there with hugs, rousing reassurances, and lots of hamster cuddles. Boo is very wise after all. He knows that cuddles are the best solution.
Dynaheir calmly and confidently reassures her that the worse her dreams, the more she is resisting Bhaal's lure. She talks about some of the things she's witnessed on her travels all the same, to chase away the lingering malaise.
Rasaad invites her to meditate with him so that she can clear her mind. When that fails, he recites prayers and psalms that he finds soothing, and offers whatever comfort he can.
Skie insists on teaching her something she didn't know because if she wears herself out, she'll sleep better. So she teaches Fianna to dance and talks about etiquette and social rules among patriars and Grand Dukes - it is very effective at getting them both to fall asleep. Jaheira ends up scolding Skie for falling asleep on watch when that happens.
Yoshimo would tell tall tales of his endeavours, many of which are too tall to be believed, but drove away the shadows all the same. Though those tales go sorely missed once Fianna escaped Spellhold, a still warm, spasming heart wrapped tightly and stowed in the bottom of her bag.
Viconia does not do comforting, but prayer is an effective balm for a troubled night. Incense helps as well, and it's definitely a coincidence that she happens to always have some handy when she's on watch.
Cernd talks about nature. Fianna grew up dreaming of the world beyond Candlekeeps walls, and listening to Cernd talk about it in such an idyllic fashion brings back those same feelings of nostalgia for something she's never known.
Sarevok rolls his eyes at first. How pathetic his sister must be to be so deeply troubled by dreams. He mocks her at first for her supposed weakness, until he begins to change his own views. He sits with her in silence now, a silent guardian against their father's spectre. She does the same for him when the nightmares begin to plague him.

Petition to let myself change narrative direction and let Skie Silvershield stab Gortash for this internal narrative—
Tumblr media
(actually I think Valas would be into that, it wouldn't change the ultimate direction of the fic) (I'm so sorry, Skie, no one deserves to be stuck in the middle of the psychosexual mind games going on here)

Found Eldoth's grave in BG3 in the Lower City graveyard and I have to say I find that very funny. I forget exactly what his inscription said, but it wasn't flattering. Lmao. He deserves this. There's something satisfying about being reminded that he's fucking dead.

Frare’s “So you want to play Baldur’s Gate 1 (EE)” Tips
- Skip the tutorial. I’m serious. While there is some helpful info in there (memorizing spells, thieving) the whole thing is kind of poorly explained and information overload so you’re best just looking up things as you find you need to know them.
- Save twice as much as you think you need to. Hell, make it three times. Any time you uncover a bunch of the map or before speaking to an NPC in the wilderness or after taking down a tough mob. Trust me on this. SAVE OFTEN. And don’t be afraid to have a bunch of save files per game. There is an autosave feature before each map change which does help quite a bit.
- You add more places to your map by exiting from different sides of the current area you’re exploring.
- You will be long resting a LOT. For one thing travelling takes a long time in game and your characters get fatigued. But you also can’t rely on this to heal you. It will reload all of your spells but it does very little in the way of hit point restoration. Also, while you’ll be fine resting at inns, resting in the wilderness or dungeons will sometimes spawn enemies instead.
- And speaking of hit points! You will not have many. Managing them, ESPECIALLY in long dungeons, is something you’ll have to get the hang of. You NEED a healer, there are a limited number of healing potions in the game. And while there’s a decent amount you cannot be relying solely on them. Also, BUY ANTIDOTES. While there aren’t that many enemies who use poison it IS op as hell and can wipe out a character fast. You can also pay for healing at any church.
- Even if you never use Neera, recruit her, take her Gem Bag and then you can kick her out. Also make sure to give Firebead in Beregost the book he’s looking for for a Scroll Case and buy the Potion Bag in High Hedge. These three items will make inventory management a hundred times easier and it can be a PAIN in this game.
- You have a LOT of possible companions scattered around the game world. (25 from the original release and 4 added in 2012’s EE) Which does leave you a lot of wiggle room for how you want to build your party. A couple of notes; Alignment is a thing in this game and it mostly applies to the companions. In general if you are a paragon of virtue your Evil companions will eventually ditch you and if you’re a murderhobo your Good and Neutral ones will. (Also if you’re a good person things cost less at shops. If only it worked like that in real life.) Look Reputation up for more info.
- Second note, you will basically always want a beefy front-line fighter, a thief and a HEALER. The rest is a little more malleable.
- A few companions only come as part of a packaged deal. (Khalid and Jaheira, Xzar and Montaron, Minsc and Dynaheir, Eldoth and Skie)
- LOWER ARMOUR CLASS IS GENERALLY BETTER! I know it feels super counter-intuitive but it’s true.
- In terms of ammo, arrows can be found on enemies pretty easily. Bullets and bolts cannot, buy more. More than that.
- Items with a blue outline are unidentified. You can pay 100 gold at a store or church to get them identified, use the identify spell... or in most cases just put it in the inventory of a character with fairly high Lore and right click on it. (I wasted so much gold...) Also best to not try things on without identifying them as some of the items are cursed.
- Don’t worry too much about trying to uncover every single thing, just enjoy the ride. You’ll do fine. (Unless that’s how you have fun, in which case go nuts I guess)
- HAVE FUN! The experience is definitely dated and frustrating at times, but there is a lot the game has to offer. And remember that if you’re really not enjoying yourself there’s no shame in dropping a game. And maybe it just doesn’t sound like your thing. But I’d recommend you give it a shot if you’re interested.
Keep in mind not all of these will be helpful in the original BG1 if you somehow have it, like the inventory management items. But most are still accurate!

Turns out Briar and Skie have quite a lot in common. Go figure.
been turning over potential romance options for briar since i started bg1, nothing sticking, and then siege of dragonspear hit & introduced me to skie, precious precious princess who's running away to join the flaming fist post-breakup, & my brain went OH THIS MAKES SENSE.

That's what multiple playthroughs are for. Pretty much EVERYBODY used Minsc/Dynaheir/Khalid/Jaheira/Imoen first time round. That's why they became the canon party. Then play again and get....creative. For example, I personally LOVE Neera, but many others do not. One thing BG1 has over 2 is how MANY potential party members there are, scattered all over the map. BG2 has far fewer, but their lore is much deeper
yeee I'm a stickler for "canon" bc I like to play as the story intends kind of, like ik most of plot anyway so ik I'm going to want to have Imoen/Dyanheir/Minsc/Khalid/Jaheira at the end of SoD bc that's who BG2 assumes you had with you.
but also having said that I keep swtiching them out a lot bc I want to do the quests lmao. Neera was super fun, loved her character & her quest. Don't really see why people wouldn't like her but? oh well.
Rasaad seems fun but havent triggered his quest yet. Apologies to Dorn and Baeloth but I do not care so they've been abandoned. Edwin, Xzar and Montaron have been abandoned for being mean. Branwen, Viconia, Ajantis, Xan and Garrick have also been abandoned bc they're not parituclarly interesting to me?
I liked Kivan a lot but got bored after his quest was done so he's also abandoned in the wilds lmao. Yeslick got p much the same treatment, so did Kagain lol. Kept Faldorn for like 5 minutes then abandoned her (also felt bad for having her in the same party as Jaheira).
I have taken Eldoth but only bc I want Skie for a story event ik happens.
I know basically nothing about the BG2 companions so that'll be fun to figure out on the fly lmao
One thing I think BG3 really improved on is the camp system, where you can activate their quests without having them constantly in ur party. I lost Dynaheir in a nondescript forest so that was a fun little 30 minute search party. Also, Neera, I'm dropping u off for 5 minutes then coming back for you, stop insulting me pls i feel baddddd.
In my head I have most of the companions chilling at camp bc fuck leaving them in the middle of nowhere dude, thats mean.

OK, we made it to the counting house. WHERE IS MY BOY!
Tumblr media
Hm. No immediate sign of Minsc and he's kind of hard to miss so I guess we'll just go look around.
It turns out that I did lie slightly about being able to read red-tagged documents as long as you don't pick them up; everyone in the bank, including all the customers waiting in line, disapproved loudly when I tried to have Hector look at the accounting books behind the desk.
Some other interesting documents to look at, though, including this on a random table:
Tumblr media
Vault 1, 3, and 5 are all names we recognize; I wonder if bringing Wyll around would be useful for getting into the Ravengard vault. Might have to look into that later.
2 is also a name recognizable from BG1/2, as I was reminded by another document nearby:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
*trumpet fanfare* BG1 reference!
Grand Dukes Belt and Liia Janneth appeared in BG1 and Siege of Dragonspear. Silvershield is also a familiar name; not Daryn, but we met Duke Entar Silvershield in BG1/SoD - he was Skie's dad. Despite what ended up happening to Skie, I guess Entar did have another kid to carry on the family line.
(I don't *think* any of this is actually relevant to anything, I'm just enjoying nerding out about all the little details. :D )
There are a lot of doors and chests around that Hector is very much not allowed to touch. We might have to touch them anyway but let's try chatting with the clerk first:
Tumblr media
"Welcome to the Counting House. I'm Head Clerk Meadhoney - how may the Fellowship of Financiers serve you?"
Tumblr media
"You seem a little nervous, Saer Meadhoney. Had some difficult customers today? One in particular calling himself the Stone Lord, perhaps?"
Tumblr media
"The who? The what? All right, fine -- the Head Banker may have just taken a customer by that name down into the vaults. Rather large. Rather heavily armed -- which is against regulations. But I'm sure the Head Banker knows what he's doing."
Tumblr media
"I assure you -- he does not. You're right to be nervous - but let us pass, and all will be well."
The fact that we're having this conversation while covered in blood from the fight with the gith is probably not helping our credibility.
Tumblr media
"Eh, well... who is this Stone Lord to you?"
Tumblr media
Hector, as usual, taking the honest and direct route until it stops working: [PERSUASION] "A friend. He might do something stupid down there, but we can help."
Tumblr media
"That would be most unusual. But then again... so is our visitor."
Tumblr media
Jaheira gave this kind of sad little laugh... "That he is. But don't worry. We can handle him."
Tumblr media
"Very well. Show the guards this *temporary* vault pass. And should my superior ask -- keep my name out of it."
All right, we have a way into the bank! Sadly I have to stop here for the night; more tomorrow after my stream, most likely! :D

I might be in the minority here, but I'd love to get a lil bg3 addon/dlc that gives some closure to the murder of Skie Silvershield. I know that her death was part of a 2016 dlc for bg1, but my Bhaalspawn was so goddamn traumatised by Skie's death that I would love the chance to see some kind of resolution that lays Skie to rest.
My primary idea would be the chance to give players a fancy masquerade ball mission which the party has been hired to infiltrate by someone who wants to acquire the soul-taker dagger that Irenicus used to murder Skie and prevent her resurrection. The person who has the dagger has it locked up in the mansion/castle vault, and its up to the Tadfools to get to the vault and recover the dagger. And along the way, learn why these two parties are so interested in the dagger and decide what to do with it (and Skie's soul) once it's recovered.
I dunno, I just think it'd be a nice way to tie up that plot thread and give the fanbase a fun party quest. And yes, everyone should have their own unique outfit. For fun.

Proud to officially be the first person on tumblr.com posting in the tag of illustrious dnd character Skie Silvershield II
(...I cannot emphasize enough how minor a character this is) (I think she has two sentences in the Murder in Baldur's Gate campaign?) (plus a 2020 twitter thread from Ed Greenwood with some absolutely insane lore I'm choosing to ignore for fic purposes)
She is a central figure in my next durgetash fic though, might as well start posting about her

I have a tentative headcanon that Skie, for all that she might be naive and sheltered, perhaps teaches Bhaalspawn how to dance like a noble lady, maybe also teaches her and Imoen how to do their hair in fancy styles. As far as anyone knows, Skie's never had any sisters so what if she found some degree of it among Bhaalspawn's crew with them, Imoen, and Neera since they all seem to be around the same age. Skie is the friend who knows all about fashion and makeup and yeah, her complaining about her clothes or hair getting messed up while adventuring can get old but that hardly makes her a bad person. Also I just really like the idea of the younger girls in the party becoming pretty close friends, especially since for me it will provide more weight to when things happen to them in-game.
