I was working my way through debts and dotages. It was always a dark, thrumming, vintage car kind of evening. Even the smokestacks in the distance prevailed in soiled sentiment. There were things I wouldn't remember if I could. Televisions that hissed with opinions. Neighbors who you couldn't trust to watch a boiling pot. A thanksgiving turkey with six legs and a voice like Sinatra. Who dares to be called "loved"? I want to meet them, shake their ample hand, pilfer their good sense of farce.
